I wouldn't describe jordan peterson as an alt right type. If anything I'd say hes beautifully apolitical. Its refreshing in a time like this to hear a psychologist ( equally deeply rooted in the pragmatics of clinical work and the technicalities of academic work) sum up the psychopathologies of extreme political opinions so succinctly and in such a common-sense approachable way. If people havent i would definitely recommend reading his magnum opus 'maps of meaning the architecture of belief' and they will see how what he is talking about really adresses the INDIVIDUAL and their struggles in the existential condition much more than anything political/group related. Perhaps in this politically charged time people are too eager to politicise/socialise theories of personal development, which is a shame. Honestly this mans work can impact the buddi g socialist (bring to them a more understanding view of the individual) and the eager conservative (bring them a more open view of social evolution and change o a group scale).... P.S screw you idealogues that cant appreciate anything that peturbs their bubble ( im looking at you radical rightists and radical leftists)
this man is brilliant and extremely well spoken. I find him so easy to understand and digest all the information he possesses; which is usually the hardest part about listening to professors/lecturers.
the world would be a much better place if his videos were made mandatory to watch in school.
thanks for the great post! (I originally learned about him from a post with him on the JRE). Another great talk!
Can anyone tl;dw this for those of us who aren't sure if it's worth spending an hour on the video? Please?
(I watched 10 minutes and didn't get anything very useful, so I'm going to pause it and see if someone offers me a good reason to keep going.)
If anyone is interested in Jordan, we have a subreddit dedicated to discussing his ideas.

He just tacks on his interpretation to the movie, partly pointing to obvious motives used by the artists to produce an entertaining movie, partly making wild leaps to somehow forge it into coherent analogies. I think it's a lot of losely connected rambling without empirical evidence to support it. Why is this so upvoted?
Carl Jung and his entire philosophy are just batshit crazy, that being said he is a very well spoken man who thinks things through. I have yet to hear an idea from him that isn't far fetched with very little supporting evidence, but I've also yet to hear an idea that isn't gripping and well thought out.
