2016-2017 Kentucky vs Florida (Game 29)

[Applause] Rupp Arena in Lexington Kentucky number 13 Florida number-11 kentucky set to do battle identical records 23 and 513 and 2 in conference play and they are tied atop the SEC standings just a week and a half before Bridgestone Arena in Nashville and the tournament it's a rematch of what happened three weeks ago that was all Florida and now Kentucky Joe sponaugle has got to do it without their starting point guard today not interesting in my boxes if you haven't seen him play he goes up and down the floor Brad he's like lightning so he's fine on the floor today Kentucky he'll still go quickly does still look to push it up and down the floor but ironically with this team usually you think of the freshmen probably three seniors are going to be impact players on this floor today speaking of speed let's take a look at our HD and too fast analysis told John Calipari practice yesterday with Kentucky really tried to focus on this as the Gators come down the floor now watch how the game is spread the floor to get to the wings in the old days they were going for layups and look at Kentucky four guys in the paint try to find the basketball but what that makes it more difficult to do it's to try to get out to find the shooters here's the lineups and again the change in the Kentucky lineup with Mulder struggling in place at the air and Fox with Mont Briscoe out of I Owen Gabriel Casey Hill table on Allen in the backcourt with Robinson Leon and Hayes up front for Mike white in his second year as the head coach in Gainesville and John Calipari his eighth year as a head man here in Lexington one of the great rivalries in this conference for the 130 gainers and the Wildcats set to have at it with about 24,000 of our closest friends in attendance and here we go you mentioned that first game about three weeks ago one of the things that Kentucky did not bring to the table in the first 10 minutes of that game was an energy level and enthusiasm I think it's built in here at Rupp Arena they should be very high in terms of being ladies the Gators to run it up for the partner for the game Mike's wife did mention will be a little bit more selective than just getting up and down in the running game with this Kentucky team on their home floor if Allen's gonna open with a three and knocks it down and again Florida in their third game without their big defensive presence on the inside gonna clear out with a torn ACL so he's got a lot of rehab to do and they have to play a little bit differently a little smaller than they would event that's why picking out a bio should be a factor underneath for Kentucky as they turn it over to the other way this girl with Arriba [Applause] that's a good call and one of the things early to touch on is Briscoes ability to make good decisions he has struggled and really has had just about as many turnovers as assists throughout the course of the last seven games so not a good decision there to start the stop by Matlin looked at the wings a little pull-up jump shot and sometimes he'll [Applause] [Applause] three back-to-back misses by Malik monk who only had 11 points that first go-around - off to a great start Justin Leon and John Calipari sing enough already in the opening two minutes last five games Leon has been playing very very well they come out here in a comfort zone just as if they're on their home floor and shooting the ball very well ain't nothing to open up the first couple of minutes Rolla in front of Kentucky and it's a rematch three weeks ago and this is reminiscent a little bit of what happened at the OU Dome it sucking only shot 38% and 54 to 29 the rebounding yeah that is the number that really stands out with the 54 in the pink now basically that the Gators are going to really try to keep this as compact as possible with their man today now for us looks like a 1-3 home when they start to money turnovers the first time they had too many other night against Missouri you know me at 17 I got three already Derek Willis will check in there because three-point shooter and a senior cook Calipari told us yesterday he said you know we're 29 games in and I'm in the same spot I am seem to be every year because you've got some of these players that are one and done and he said I still haven't quite figured this group out and I'm sure he's scratching his head was that right now yeah and I think of his teams you know they started out very very strongly at the beginning of the year because nobody knows who they have on their floor as the season progresses all the teams get to see what they could do and then they prepare for them better but here's a nice close defensively you know if you don't get that effort by Mulder just then and the big guy doesn't get a chance Willis to commit and block the shot have a problem with a gal going quickly two little guys off the bank obviously babies just yet he's over three so far [Applause] listen to the pilot I mean Devin Robinson with the heads up the first pile [Applause] [Music] one of the tendencies to was this Kentucky team to brown when you think about it their guard oriented they like to go up and down in transition I think quite candidly sometimes they forget that they have a pretty good player underneath and out of bio come more coming off the Missouri game 22 points career-high 15 rebounds let's see if they can he has to continue to play and John Calipari mentioned that yesterday these guys have to really pick up their games individually and be more consistent with their games as an individual and that's going to carry over and make the team [Applause] just saying you know if you think about if Radford on a one to ten scale if a guy comes out night in and night out and he's a seven and he plays like a seven most of the nights but if he does too much leaves that about gave them two free throws [Applause] chiozza in other hand usually he's like a coach on the floor generally makes good decisions little stop jump there but he you notice how his body kept going with the momentum he did the right thing initially but plus it was going a little quicker than he needed to his momentum carried him offensive end of the floor very tricky the drive by Briscoe is fine getting a shot up and making sure you get it to the glass and even better if you miss it getting it on the rim and Hayes tried to get a flock of Kentucky [Applause] bring it back out so if you get good action at the offensive side of the floor much defensively now it opens it wide up for offensive rebounding one of the things that the Gators have to be very very careful with where they dominated the board at home in the first matchup at Ohio who is really really active on the class [Applause] [Applause] Leon was in the right spot at the right time see her said Jeff watch Li hung on the left side he gets this ball but what does he do he brings it down and of is good and he's got a warm-up for kentucky's gonna have problem scored they've had an up and down year and guarded berries gone seventeen and two defeated North Carolina at a great game 106 103 out in Vegas and then they went one in three loosing leads lost to Kansas here the last five they've won them ever since they lost at Florida but necessarily been pretty and if you have you been around lucky lucky I wasn't here took five minutes yesterday and break gets back to that what we just talked about the beginning kentucky likes to go up and down the teams and not allowing them to run but you go behind the screens that an invitation and Allen is very very tricky with his shots also even though he had a guy on his right side generally a right-handed shooter has trouble getting that shot off with the defender coming around his his power side Nessler jump in R : you know the rebounding difference we talked about it three weeks ago that is all Florida well it's all Kentucky right now that's helping them yeah their energy level is pretty good keep in mind the last few of minutes though Florida missing a lot of shots Givens gives Kentucky a nice edge on the defensive rebounding side but when you think about this game already Brad it's two tails and Allen has really given them a good lift with his shooting right from the beginning a minute he's somebody that you see a little bit of space to he'll take advantage of he doesn't need a hole on his face and shooting the basketball so a terrific start by the Gators and a nice rebounding effort by Kentucky's put them right back before this game but keep in mind this guy now has two fouls on him so he has to be very careful on drives to the basket and defensive systems and Mike once took him out Kentucky immediate went on a 600 run to change the complexion of the game and I forget the score here he comes they're here to see different teams before the sudden mouth Florida has to recognize the streaky shooter has just buried a long-range shot so you have to we Mouse and basketball over where he's had those five in the first half so he's been out of sorts and a little bit of that has to do without box on the floor setting the table for him also who's not playing in today's game again the Aaron Fox the Incas believe must make up one of the best freshmen backwards in the country and he's not playing as does indeed contusions suffered in the Missouri game the other night and that makes Kentucky a very very different team he's been able to see that the first half today rekik job keeping Allen away from his third foul so he can play Kentucky an opportunity to take the lead here to start the second half it was only 1 for 8 from the field in the first half but maybe couple extra shots for him that they would rather see him set the table for the big 8 came out Allen was 5 for 8 the rest of the time part of this is you want to make sure you get your shoulders around and you see how he gets his right shoulder passed Leon and that's going to give you the direction of where you want to go on the floor as an offensive player and then his scoring abilities just flat-out take over but you don't want to do is give a shooter that struggling a free one from 15 feet shoots it at 83% - comes alive guy who's got to get on track who's over five at the first half's and he's a guy who has been playing very well you know as a plate for Florida but he's been silent at the offensive end a fourth tie the game even a drug addict is destroyed some decent games at scale and some not so good right place right time he's got seven and the other part of that to Brad is the fact that you have Willis who's a very good three-point shooter so when he misses he generally does miss bad belongs outside kicks with Drive I lay out at Willis thousand [Applause] you took off for him to see if it's two or three free-throws each - yeah that's not going to take a long time to figure that one out I almost said to myself as he was shooting that shot that one goes in that was a difficult shot to even think about taking John Calipari told him yesterday Malik monk when your feet are squared away and you take the jump shot it's going in every time when you kick that foot out and a little bit off-balance which is what he was there but he got pushed off those two things go together right kicking your feet right a little bit causes you to be off balance so this is going to be a two free throws I was taking longer said oh all right we got expert if the letter is the left foot I think the right foot was on the line so - coming up for Malik who missed his last one
