hey everyone how's it going as always thanks so much for tuning in last year many of you probably remember we got to take an up close and personal in-depth look with a full-size Range Rover Autobiography a very cool opportunity to check out a very unique vehicle many of you also requested the Range Rover Sport well today I'm happy to announce that Land Rover has been generous enough to loan us this beautiful 2015 Range Rover Sport supercharged to be able to test for an entire week and really get behind the wheel for a proper in-depth road test this one also features the dynamic package and a bunch of other cool options and I'll highlight all of those as we go through the video as always guys this is going to be a detailed in-depth review and road test of the Range Rover Sport supercharg we'll start it up show the engine getting exhausted Lo clip go over the performance data taking on a thorough drive and show you many of the unique aspects of both the interior as well as exterior and so without further Ado let's go and hop on in start it up let it run this example is finished in kakura stone metallic paired with a combination of espresso Oxford leather seaing surfaces and almond accents across the doors Dash and center console highlighted by Shadows Z brono wood veneers in order to start just make sure you have the key fob within the interior put your foot on the brake and hit the dash matter button to go [Music] oh yeah the latest generation Range Rover Sport features electrically assisted speed sensitive variable ratio of rack and pinion steering in place of the previous hydraulic system it's lighter more direct steering behavior is largely thanks to a faster steering ratio in addition to a big drop in vehicle weight and other changes here and there which we'll cover later on you wouldn't expect a vehicle of this size and weight to drive the way it does which is what makes the latest sport such an improvement of her predecessor this is an SUV that can take a corner with very limited body roll for flatter and more entertaining cornering it's an absolute blast feeling very linear and communicative for what it is the electric steering also contributes to improve fuel economy and reduce CO2 emissions by reducing the load on the engine gradual increases in steering effort with higher speeds increases Precision the sport features a unique four-spoke steering wheel that's smaller in diameter not mentioned thicker than the one found in the fulls siiz Range Rover it carries the same style multi-function controls but looks far more Dynamic with its polished trim and perforated leather portions delivering power to all four wheels through a permanent four-wheel drive system is zf's excellent 88hp 70 8-speed automatic transmission as we've discussed in previous videos this ubiquitous gear boox is being widely used across a variety of makes some models from Chrysler Group to Rolls-Royce and mini in between unlike its fullsize counterpart the sports gears aren't selected by a jaguar like rotary dial but a vertical electronic shifter similar to what you would find in the new Jaguar ftype it allows manual shifting via the leather wrap shifter or by a set of steering wheel paddles for easy access when in mid corner while the plastic used for the paddles isn't of the highest quality genuine aluminum paddles are available out of all the automatics I've driven zf's 8speed is by far one of the most impressive that wasn't a dual clutch setup the Range Rover is said to have its own tuning but in general it behaves very similar to other applications shifts are so seamless thanks to the Clos to space ratios and take just 200 milliseconds you hardly even notice them in normal driving it also feels adaptive as if shifts occur quicker and quicker the harder you accelerate when downshifting throttle blips add to the excitement to keep the engine in sweet spot for faster response with its taller overdrive gears it's also more fuel efficient than previous 6-speeds so let's go ahead and flip on the LED accented Automatic by function hid headlamps front and rear fog lamps not to mention the hazards as expected all four windows are fully automatic and we'll go ahead and check out the exterior the all new Range Rover Sport was launched for the 2014 model year and continues largely unchanged for 2015 aside from the addition of a few trim levels including the ultra high performance 550 horsepower svr originally launched back in 2006 to to compete with other sportmed SUVs such as the BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne the Range Rover Sport was the Brand's first performance SUV over the years has become one of land Rover's volume leaders designed to bridge the gap between the compact evoke and Range Rover Flagship the newest sport Blends elements of both from a refreshingly modern styling language impressive off-road capability and even more impressive driving Dynamics the second generation Range Rover Sport is hailed as the fastest most agile and responsive Land Rover ever it begins to set itself apart from its predecessor which was more or less a retooled Land Rover lr3 by implementing many of the same Advanced design techniques found in the Range Rover Flagship which was redesigned for 2013 following its larger brother the sport is the second Land Rover model in the first in its segment to benefit from an allnew aluminum chassis and body structure for a drastic decrease in curb weight combined with further advancements of its permanent four-wheel drive system the latest Range Rover Sport is a far superior you're offering compared to his predecessor not only in terms of off-road capability but efficiency economy quality and especially performance in fact 75% of the components used in the construction are unique to the sport further distinguishing itself from the flagship to create a truly unique offering the one piece aluminum body shell rides on an aluminum unibody composed of pressed cast extruded and rolled members to create a platform that's 39% lighter and 25% stiffer than the previous steel semi Co chassis the body is joined to aluminum front and rear subframes while the B pillars are further reinforced with Composite Materials the aluminum body panels including the doors are pressed as single units for reduced joints improved integrity and simplified assembly the side intrusion beams within the doors of the first Automotive applications of high strength ac300 aluminum the goal wasn't just to make it lighter but stronger that strength leads to improved crash safety and significantly improved in VH levels it also creates it's a far more Dynamic and agile vehicle while the new model is significantly larger it still weighs around 800 lb less than its predecessor Yes you heard that right give or take some depending on trim and Equipment up to 75% of the aluminum used was recycled all bonded and riveted together for the most part using more aeronautical techniques versus traditional spot welding 60 lbs of the plastic used in Upper trim levels also comes from recycled sources other weight saving measures include lightweight high strength steel seat structures and SMC tailgate aluminum components for the final drive optimize suspension design and more not to mention lightweight magnesium castings for the cross car beam and frontend carrier as you'll see later on this is a prime example of how much of a difference less weight makes in performance compared to the Range Rover flank ship the sport is 5.87 in shorter in length rides 2.17 in lower to the ground and weighs 99 lbs less it's somewhat similar in size to its predecessor with notable changes to its overall length width and wheelbase increasing by 2.44 2.2 and 7 in respectively the latter of which allows easier access and improved room for rear seat passengers all Range Rovers are unmistakable in their presence especially the sport which has undergone quite the transformation to become the Sleek muscular and Powerful looking vehicle you see here while it still retains its predecessor's familiar shape it's less blocky than before the edges are softer more refined and more aerodynamic combined with shorter front rear overhangs the dynamic package equipped on our tester also adds gloss black mirror caps Grill finisher hood and Fender vents tow eye cover fog lamp surrounds and tailgate trm the red sport badge Outback and red brake calipers are also added with the dynamic package Slimmer wraparound front and rear lighting complement the modern Range Rover family styling while the sport adds more aggression up front thanks to large intakes for the twin intercoolers LED fog lamps are standard on all but the base SE the fender Vin are no longer functional but a continued style adaptation from the previous model land mover relocated the Breather ports to the restyled clamshell Hood resulting in enhanced foring depth across the sides you'll find new flared fenders horizontal body feature lines and distinctive rocker moldings that make it look fast even when it's sitting still near flush glazing of the a pillars and vehicle Side Glass along with separation edges incorporated into the rear lamps and d-pillars optimized shaping of the door mirrors and upper rear spoiler helps the Range Rover sported achieve an impressive drag coefficient of just 34 and 8% improvement over its predecessor I'm a huge fan of the new Range Rover look especially the sport for customers Desiring a bit more individuality they can pretty much be built to order offering a wealth of customizable Touches for example there's 19 exterior paint options and three available contrasting roof colors our tester's roof is finished in Santorini black obviously the most important aspect of any Range Rover is its off-road ability the all new Range Rover Sport is able to go further than ever before with the latest terrain response 2 permanent four-wheel drive system and six different modes you can select depending on trim including Dynamic general grass gravel snow mud ruts sand and rock crawl an automatic mode can be selected that adapts the mode based on the vehicle's terrain sensors modulating the engine transmission and locking Center differential simultaneously it's also able to react faster than before monitoring vehicle movements at least 500 times per second thanks to a new computer processor placing the vehicle in the dynamic mode activates unique calibrations for the power steering throttle transmission not to mention damping lean control traction and stability control systems this is obviously the sportiest and most responsive setting with the firm steering least amount of body roll in the crispest shifts the transfer case offers both high and low range using a two-speed fully synchronized system which allows the driver to switch between them as speeds up to 96 mph torque is split evenly 50/50 between the front and rear rear wheels by default and constantly adjust based on the scenario with the center differential being able to disperse as much as 100% of the torque to the front or rear the high range provides a direct drive ratio of 1 to1 while the low range ratio brings a 2.93 to1 crawl ratio our tester with the Supercharged V8 also comes standard with a dynamic active rear locking differential which reacts 70 milliseconds quicker than before with electronic torque factoring which is otherwise optional on The Supercharged V6 apart the extra Duty package the redesigned four corner air suspension offers 10.2 in of front wheel travel and 10.7 in of travel at the rear leading to approach breakover and departure angles of 33 27 and 31° respectively with 21.5 in of wheel articulation while in off-road height foring depth increases by 5.9 in for a total of 33.5 in and is now paired with a new Wade sensing feature which uses sensors in the door mirrors to provide information when driving through water combining a visual display and warning Chimes to alert you as water levels rise Dynamic response active lean control provides a performance benefit by allowing independent control of the front and rear axles but it also detects off-road conditions and isolates stabilizer bars to reduce the level of roll compensation to allow for the wheel articulation increasing the tire's contact patch with the terrain the air suspension is fully adjustable by simply pressing a button in the center console allow the driver to lower it by nearly 2 in for Access height improving entry and exit or raising it as much as 9.3 in from its lowest setting to reach a Max off-road height of 10.9 in therefore you have about 7.3 in or so of adjustable range between the extremes once previously limited to 31 mph the Range Rover can now be driven up to 50 mph while in off-road height before it automatically lowers to its normal height of 8.4 in this is thanks to a new inter intermediate off-road setting which rides 1.4 in above normal suited for rded dirt roads and the like the highest off-road setting which is about 2 and 1/2 in higher than normal is still restricted to 31 mph the previous sport however only had a single off-road height setting of 2.2 in so the new model is able to go nearly 4 in higher with added flexibility handling is improved quite a bit with active roll bars variable dampers and Corner brake control the ride is more stable with less body roll through the corners aerodynamic underf paneling and carefully placed deflectors help improve fuel economy by reducing drag to create a relatively flat profile underneath which also works to protect vital components while off-road and create a little bit of a quieter environment inside the smooth under body is also said to give an additional 2 in of off-road height clearance compared to its predecessor in addition to a wide variety of suspension adjustments there's also a host of other electronic assist features including Hill descent control gradient Release Control Hill start assist Dynamic stability control electronic traction control and roll stability control the Range Rover Sport is available with nine different alloy wheel designs ranging from 19 to 22 in in diameter our tester features a set of 21in style 507 Diamond turned Alloys with dark gray inserts ripped in 27545 Michelin Latitude sport tires at Each corner they're able to hold around point8 G of lateral acceleration brakes consist of four-wheel internally ventilated discs measuring 15x 1.3 in in front paired with bmbo six piston fixed calipers and 14.4x 1 in in the rear with single piston sliding calipers with this setup average stops from 60 MPH are achieved in a little over 120 ft as far as the suspension is constructed primarily from aluminum and doubly insulated consisting of a fully adjustable and adaptive air ride setup as we touched on earlier with independent double wishbones in front and a multi-link rear design ride comfort and overall refinement of been notably improved delivering enhanced bump absorption and more Supple feel despite the larger Wheels you still feel some bumps over broken payment but it's very subtle I've never driven an SUV that delivered a level of excitement like this it really does have the heart and soul of a sports car handling is fantastic for what it is minor body roll is expected but it's so well controlled that you find yourself taking Corners with the utmost confidence smiling all the way through overall length is 191 in with a width of 81.6 in and a height of 70.1 in riding on a 115in wheelbase total curb weight as you see here is around 5,092 lb as before the Range Rover Sport is available with two power plants a new 3 l supercharged V6 is standard on the SE and hsse replacing the base naturally aspirated 5 L V8 it develops 340 horsepower and 332 lb feet of torque for a 0 to 60 time of 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph combined fuel economy for that engine is rated at 19 M to a gallon The Supercharged and autobiography is still powered by a 5 L all aluminum and direct injected V8 engine paired with a Roots type twin Vortex supercharger pretty much unchanged from its predecessor it's nestled within the cylinder Banks and is fed by twin intercoolers and delivers up to 9.1 PSI of boost the engine features double overhead cams four valves per cylinder variable intake and exhaust valve timing a 9.5 to1 compression ratio and a Redline fuel C off of 6,800 RPM it develops 510 horsepower 6500 RPM and 461 lbet of torque at 2500 rpm with less weight and the new 8-speed transmission the sport now accelerates to 60 mph in just under 5 Seconds about .9 seconds quicker than its predecessor top speed is limited to 140 mph unless you opt for the dynamic package which raises the limit to 155 mph a specially tuned exhaust system and the intake sound Sy poser yield similar aggressive notes you'd expect to find in a Jaguar ftype r or an XKR it should go without saying but this thing is brutally fast it throws you into the seats on hard launches and keeps you there all while delivering rapid gear changes without interruptions of power as far as fuel economy with a 27.7 gall tank and filled with required premium fuel expect an EPA estimated range between 14 M to a gallon in the city and 19 on the highway averaging around 16 M to a gallon it's a 14% improve over its predecessor using the newly available auto start stop system is said to improve fuel economy by up to 7% the allnew interior is one of the nicest I've seen out of this class in addition to improved build quality including more soft touch surfaces and authentic metal detailing the controls have been cleaned up reducing the amount of buttons and switches by 50% for a simpler ergonomically friendly design that differs significantly from the Range Rover Flagship the primary focus Point begins with the steeper rake of the center stack and high mounted center console highlighted by satin Chrome pillars creating a more driver focused and intimate cabin all in all there are 11 interior color schemes plus additional seat colors three wood veneers four aluminum interior finishes and three headliner colors your power mirrors and power windows are located up top while your power locks and threers memory are located just ahead of the armrest here's a little bit of storage and the entire door panel is wrapped in soft touch material the seats are unique to the Range Rover Sport benefiting from a more sculpted and aggressive design with added padding here and there they're wrapped in premium Oxford leather with perforations down the middle providing necessary ventilation for the heating and cooling functions they feature 16-way power adjustment including four-way power Lumbar and adjustable lateral support despite their initial firmness I found them to be quite comfortable supportive and fatigue reducing on longer trips attention to detail is wonderful continuing the double stitching theme with the addition of ACC ENT piping the headr and seat belts are adjustable there's an aluminum Dell entry guard optional all- weather floor mats and a part of the dynamic package stainless steel pedals the steering wheel is power tilting telescoping with heat the dash is entirely wrapped out of leather and you have the polished aluminum accents not to mention the real wood veneers in our tester two tone color schemes separated by a black mesh strip going across the middle all finished off with a pain and R glass roof standard on all models except for the base SE so let's go ahead and see if she [Music] sounds [Music] a oh so let's go and shut her up soft closing door panels the standard 380 W audio system features eight speakers but for more premium experience our tester is fitted with the optional 19 speak Meridian surround sound system including a subwoofer for a total output of 825 WTS for the best available audio experience a 1700 W 23 speaker surround sound system is also available through Meridian adding speakers up in the headliner for a realistic three-dimensional [Music] experience side curtain airbags grip handles up top and petted by ERS with illuminated vanity mirrors autoi mve view mirror with three position garage home link located below and in the top stack highlighted by satin silver trim and high gloss black piano veneer you have the controls for your fully automatic sunroof and sunshade your driver and passenger side Bluetooth microphones are also up there a wind deflector pops up and slides back quite a bit the glove box is electronically actuated the infotainment system is pretty much identical to the one used in the newest Jaguar products so if you want to see a little bit more information on that and how to use all of the features and functionality you can click the link in the description box below or the link in the top right hand corner of the video in a nutshell this is the home menu activated by that that button right there is a summary screen basically that shows all the system features and with an easy reach setup for a little bit more detailed customizable options parking sensors turning the system on and off changing the different audio modes going to the audio video screen where you can access Satellite Radio HD radio regular amfm not to mention um hands-free Bluetooth streaming and all of your other media inputs like iPod USB and just auxiliary connectivity your navigation with destination input and hands-free Bluetooth t phone very simple continuing down the center console there's a standard Dual Zone electronic automatic climate control system for the most part you can control all the various features through these rotary knobs in the middle here temperature off to the either side and fan speed in the middle you have Max AC Max defrost rear defrost AC and recycling not to mention activating the little defroster strips up in the windshield now if you want a little bit more detail obviously you can do one touch automatic for both the driver and pass messenger if you click on the climate button it brings it up in the infotainment system where then you can change the various zones as well as some other um settings if you click on front seats you can adjust the heated and ventilated functions not to mention adjust the zone that it works in heat adjustments can be activated from this button right here if you were in another menu beautiful polish satin bright work highlights the center console amongst high gloss wood veneer you have two good size cup holders to the far right in addition to a 12vt power outlet and a broad leather padded center console that opens up into a nice amount of space right here now it may not seem like it but under here is a refrigerated cool box how cool is that in front of that there's a small storage cubby I guess to set a phone or something like that two USB ports another 12volt outlet and an auxiliary input all this is high gloss black pan of veneer very pretty as far as the steering wheel on the right hand side you have your cruise control this particular one is equipped with the um optional adaptive cruise system you have the cancel button for cruise and activation of your heated steering wheel the left- hand side different modes for the audio system off on hook button for your telephone enh hands-free voice commands help voice help voice commands are generally given in the following format device function and setting up top you have your various radio controls and if you hit the menu button in the middle here it brings up your driver information system within the 12.3 in TFT display [Music] have [Music] and check out the back seat all right so we're checking out the back seat of the new Range Rover Sport and the first thing that you'll notice is how Airy the environment is back here especially compared to the fullsize Range Rover I actually thought the sport would be a little bit cramped back here and it really doesn't seem to be at all and I double checked the specs the sport actually has like a tenth of an inch less of Headroom which is negligible at best and nobody would ever notice that but I love the panoramic glass roof it gives the cabin such an Airy open feeling environment I mean especially with the light color scheme of this particular tester head room is I would imagine let's say 3 and 1 12 in and maybe 5 to 6 in of leg space depending on the seating position of the person in front honestly for me the biggest Hallmark with the range over in general is its interior like we talked about earlier this is probably one of the nicest environments that I've seen in this particular class I mean not just because of the leathers and the woods and stuff but the way it's all put together I mean build quality is phenomenal the do closed with a nice solid thud just like the front you have the piping across the seats the double stitching the perforations it feels tailored I mean just so nice overall Comfort back here is Pretty good overall the back seat is a little bit on the firmer side but it's very supportive especially in the lower back region you have extra lateral support across the bottom as well as the back and flared shoulder supports up top for individuals with broader shoulders you can sit three people right here I would imagine you can fit three fulls size adults you don't have a big drivetrain hump at all and the center console doesn't really imped on um back seat room whatsoever there's also a pretty decent Siz headrest right here the outer headrests are adjustable the middle one is fixed if you press this little lever right here you can fold the whole thing down to two metallic lined cup holders press this here as a little storage compartment and it's all of course wrapped in leather in the middle here you have a small storage tray up there down here and in the very bottom here's a 12volt power outlet and three stage heated seats for both of the outboard seats two air vents right there keeping everything nice and ventilated two seatback pockets grip handles coat hooks now to mention handsfree Bluetooth microphones back here as well so all the passengers can pretty much be heard equally and you have led Illumination in addition to being able to fold these seats down for more cargo space out back which we'll talk about during the trunk portion you can also grab the lever on the side and recline the seats a little bit not too much but there's a little bit of a degree of rake so you can kind of kick back and relax on a longer trip all in all that's pretty much it let's go and check out the rest of the vehicle the Range Rover Sport can seat up to seven people depending on whether you opt for the third row option a power lift gate is standard compared to the Range Rover Flagship it has a pretty decent amount of storage for its size not to mention a privacy cover behind the second row you have 27.7 cubic feet of cargo space if more is desired you can fold the seats via the levers on the outer seat backs with everything opened up space jumps to 62.2 cubic feet making it plenty big to haul some mediumsized furniture or plenty of camping gear like its full-size brother there's LED lighting Outback a privacy cover and a 12volt power outlet a spare tire can be found underneath the load floor in addition to the optional all weather floor mats and plenty of plush carpeting [Music] the passenger seat features the same power adjustments that you find on the driver's seat including the four-way power Lumar and adjustable lateral support in the upper portion of the dash you the electronic actuator for the glove box a pretty decent amount of space lined and felt with less weight Stellar build quality materials and Technology it's obvious that the Range Rover has evolved in a big way over the years the sport is my favorite model not only do you get the expected offro capability but it's immensely fun to drive despite its size it doesn't feel like a big SUV when out on the road it's easy to maneuver and as comfortable as a luxury sedan it's a great well-rounded vehicle that's ready to maintain its position in a quickly growing and competitive segment well everyone I hope you enjoyed the in-depth look at the 2015 Range Rover Sport supercharged be sure to stay tuned next time there's a lot more where that came from take care every body
