he's hitting in the three spot he's a shortstop he's at all of 25 games under his belt in the big leagues but he's hitting third batting 337 Adrian Gonzalez at another all-star season he's a lefty power-hitting first baseman former met Justin Turner at third base since he left the Mets he's been about a 315 hitter Andre Ethier resurgence he's in right field at 294 batter this year AJ Ellis is the catcher in its bazaars is a career 240 regular season hitter but in the postseason he's closer to 400 joc Pederson in center Terry Collins used to manage his dad and Peterson the guy who almost won the home run derby this year's strikeout prone center fielder batting eighth Clayton Kershaw's the pitcher he bats number 9 and how he has what was written here locally in LA the Dodgers players are mostly playing for legacy and love but their manager is managing for his job as you kind of mentioned a little bit earlier Kershaw losses in this NLDS again orb Adrian Gonzalez hits 188 in the first round again those guys aren't going anywhere but Don Mattingly and the Dodgers feel like there's some pressure to win light now the Mets so thrilled to be here we're getting close to the first pitch and that first pitch about to be delivered by Clayton Kershaw brought to you by Empire City casino come play electronic blackjack and three-card poker now bad bad hat ins closet casino Empire City casino game on and so Curtis Granderson in the leadoff for the Bentson if you looked at both teams on this field it looks a whole lot like it did in 1962 certainly there are subtle differences but the bets are wearing the same traditional Road grays New York across the chest Dodgers at their home whites Kershaw into the windup the first pitch of the game drilled in the air to deep right that goes Ethier on to the track to make the catch one man out a 94 mile an hour fastball turned around by a very aggressive hitter Curtis Granderson but just the long out so one pitch one away and David Wright coming up Mets fans whether you're on the way to the ballpark or just driving around listening to the game we want you to be with us for all the excitement so don't text don't call just drive a reminder from the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission put your phone to bed at visit just dr.com when Clayton Kershaw pitched the complete-game three-hit shutout in late July against the Mets at Citi Field David Wright was still wondering and he never played this year he's batting now and the first pitch to the right-hand batter a fastball fouled back to the screen nothing at one Kershaw against the Mets is six endo in his career with a one point three four earned run average David three for 14 against him after hitting 289 on the year and the owe one on the way from Kershaw curveball and that's low wanted one one thing I believe is instructive is that both Mets hitters have gone after those first pitch fastball it's from Kershaw and if they're around the plate you might as well low:11 it on the ground foul down the third base line a ball and two strikes because Kershaw can be downright devastating when he gets in front of you even strike one most pitches will tell you strike one is the most important pitch you throw anyway but both Kershaw and Greinke for that matter to drop tonight they don't walk a lot of people so they're around the plate go after him the one two on the way fastball outside two balls and two strikes the umpires lineup brought to you by Lincoln Technical Institute always offering the best lineup of career choices get started today at Lincoln edu dot-com first Kershaw into the windup the 2 2 on the way to right and a curveball dribbled foul back to the backstop remember six umpires in the postseason so Alan Porter has the plate Jim wolf at first Greg Gibson at second Chris Guccione is at third Gary cederstrom the crew chief is on the left-field line Chad Fairchild is on the right-field line to a 2 to David Wright one out nobody on just getting started Kershaw deals and it's in the dirt low inside a fastball and a full count now to write with Yoenis Cespedes waiting on deck Dodgers won 2 more games than the bench during the regular season and they had to rally the last week of the year to grab home-field advantage and now the payoff pitch AMA way fast balance rate down by the clip David's foot at home plate it's still full think of it is had the Mets maintained home-field advantage which obviously it they all would have loved tonight's game might have been dicey because we understand it was raining pretty hard right around what would have been gained time in New York obviously this wasn't getting started at nearly 10 o'clock Eastern Time Kershaw's payoff pitch on the way swing and a foul coming straight back that will reach the second deck behind first base 95 mile an hour fastball there from Kershaw who as you would imagine was all over the leaderboards in the National League among pitchers even though he was just six that wins with 16 grand to the outfield straightaway here's the payoff pitch to right foul off of the catcher Ellis he could come hold on and the count remains full but Kershaw was third of the league in earned run average he had four complete games to tie for the major league lead he led the majors in innings pitched with 232 and two thirds led the majors in strikeouts got over the 300 mark in his last outing 301 for the year and again the payoff pitch on the way to right swing and a foul back to the screen and David who's 3 for 14 against Kershaw in the past having a tough at-bat here was a nine pitch at-bat after Granderson went 4-1 South as pitous waiting patiently on deck Gonzales Kendrick Seager Turner first a third around the infield Crawford Peterson Ethier left to right of the outfield payoff pitch another foul ball that'll come right back into the second deck behind home plate the Kershaw that time muscled up to 96 the hardest pitch he's thrown a bunt the tandem that he's thrown to David Wright AJ Ellis says he often has catches Clayton Kershaw the catcher for the Dodgers so again here's the payoff pitch to right no ball for and David with an outstanding at-bat against Kershaw works out a one-out walk David's longest at-bat of the year and it comes against the guy who's got a 7 to 1 a strikeout to walk ratio so here is Cespedes now Cespedes finished on the cold side as he went 2 for his last 14 he's gone over 50 at-bats now without a home run batting 287 as a met he had 17 homers with New York and that's at around a third of the season 57 games at all he had 35 home runs total between his work with the Tigers evidence drove in 105 all told right and better Kershaw deals fastball right down the middle of call strike at 96 Kershaw actually has what they call reverse splits but they're nothing to make a big fuss about that means that the right-handed hitters who you would imagine might hit him a little better than the lefties actually don't Cespedes doesn't hit left-handers all that well either oh and one the count the pitch swaying an offense in a sinking fastball the two seamer at 91 and the count nothing at 2-2 Cespedes made it's 192 against the righties 203 against the lefties so you know basically the hashtag there is big whoop right at first being held on by Gonzales with one out and Kershaw raises those arms over the top of the set now sets up the letters and throws to first right back standing before we go any further we need to send our prayers our thoughts our very best wishes and just about everybody in Los Angeles would say their undying love to the voice of baseball Vinton Scully who is not calling the postseason having had a procedure yesterday the o22 Cespedes what not at Miss strike three that looked like a hard biting slider down and in that Cespedes waves at it for Kurt Shaw's first strikeout now there are a 2 min away and it will break up Daniel Murphy after that first pitch fastball just an array of sliders degrom throws a an even faster slighter than Kershaw and that's pretty impressive to say man out Daniel Murphy and you have to say that with all the left-handed pitching the Mets are going to see in this series because you know don't forget you're talking about Anderson and wood should they both get in plus Kershaw guys like Murphy become very very important first pitch to the left-hand hitter a fastball in for a false right nothing at one Murph on the year hit 281 with 14 homers and 73 runs batted in Murphy not a guy who's never been bothered a whole lot against lefties hit 254 against them this year the o1 pitch fastball that's in for a called strike first shop opening it there at 94 and with right at first 2 min away no score top of the first it's Owen two to Daniel Murphy everybody or just about everybody waving white towels that were given away tonight they'll be orange when they get to Citi Field Kershaw sets here's the O to Murphy fouls it back to the screen that's good to be giving away orange what about stew rally towels and that'll be the scene at Citi Field beginning on Monday night tell you what making Kershaw throw 20 pitches in his first inning that's a small victory no matter what happens from here that sure doesn't hurt the Dodgers have at best the pedestrian bullpen until you get to their closer Kenley Jansen who's terrific oh and to to barfi Kershaw sets at the letters Wright leads from first and draws a throw David back standing Tom Goodwin on the coaching lines at first for Terry Collins and Tim Tuffle flashing the signs at third Travis d'Arnaud a homeboy waits on deck so the bits really make it Kershaw work here in this first finish next pitch will be number 20 he's Owen tuna Murphy Kershaw ready now the pitch curveball tapped up the first base line a foul ball fielded by Tom Goodwin you can roll up seven foul balls in one inning off Kershaw that frustrates him and he's not as emotional as some others but he's got that burning intensity which again I think now he even becomes more than normal knowing that he's Owen for in his last four postseason starts he wants this one get most of that damage dug by the st. Louis Cardinals who beat the Cubs tonight by the way four to nothing at Game one oh and tuna Murphy short lead for right at first the pitch fastball hit off the end of the bat foul over by the Dodgers dugout Kershaw gives you just about no leg kick with a runner on base he's a slide step pitcher there are some pitches over the year who will tell you that that slide step steals more from you then it gives you know Tom Seaver often talked about the fact that he'd lose a little velocity and probably a little location with that slide step but Kershaw doesn't find it at all right stretches the lead out just a bit now at first the owe to to Murph tries to check his swing that he goes around strike three side retired fastball of the dirt and Ellis tanks Murphy to complete the strike outside retired 21 pitch inning for Kershaw up in the Mets come up empty no runs no hits a walk one left middle of the first it's the Mets nothing the Dodgers coming up nets did not score against Clayton Kershaw on the top of the first inning and so Carl Crawford will lead off against Jacob degrom and again in the case of degrom this is all new territory to him the postseason so we'll see if there are any butterflies or nerves that might manifest at lack of what for him is usually great command Crawford a left-hand batter the first pitch fastball is high and outside for ball one Gruffudd spent some time on the disabled list this year seems he does that just about every year this year was an oblique injury and the 102 fastball fouled back to the screen one at one that fastball at 97 miles an hour and he wouldn't think that there'd be too many of those butterflies that should affect the grump as he knocked up dead cold in the all-star game the one one up at Ana heater 97 at the count 2 & 1 Crawford has hit an 11 consecutive postseason games for the Dodgers that's a franchise record of course the postseason used to be in the World Series the two one hit found to the left of the screen downstairs and Adam play 2 & 2 then again Jake just firing past balls that last one at 97 Crawford in his best days a great base stealer still runs fairly well but at 34 dot as fast as he was 2 2 pitch fastball swung on and missed strike three the Grum climbing the ladder there and on the velocity board as well he climbed up a notch punched him out at 98 so one up one down Howie Kendrick coming up and immense defensive alignment is delivered to you by seamless seamless how of New York eats let's have dude at first Murphy at second Tejada at Short right at third the Dyer Cespedes Granderson left to right of the outfield d'Arnaud catching Kendrick Wright and better swings and dribbles one foul off to the right nothing had one to the former angel who is traded for Andrew Haney during the offseason rare deal really made between these Freeway rivals the Dodgers and the angels and the o1 pitch fastball swung on and best dead it's nothing at to dial that up to 97 97 is where Kershaw was sitting - Howie in the first inning usually this year the fastball has been 95 so he's pretty amped up - ought not to be the o2 on the way Kendrick fouls it back to the screen you just wonder how tough it's going to be to score runs in this series at least for the first couple of games syndergaard has been so dominant his land couple and they'll pitch tomorrow then you've got Harvey in Game three and that's the game where the men should have a a real pitching edge here's the o2 line down the right-field line a foul ball so Josh you know we always talk about well the first run being especially important but I don't think you can possibly overstate the importance of scoring first in this series especially at these first two games Darian if the infields in in third and fourth innings I bet the next couple of game games here's the o2 so we're gonna lie to the right base hit well that says a little something as Granderson mix it up fires it back in Howie Kendrick aboard with something that has really wanted MIT's pitchers all year those old two mistakes that title was a basketball that the gromp wanted to get away but a leaked out over the middle of the plate and Kendrick lined him to right field so one on one out for a big story here in LA the 21 year old rookie shortstop Corey Seager and real quick cally just go back to that Oh - because Kendrick is looking to go to right field it's only a single if he's looking to pull away the balls been jumping today that that could have been gone Seager a left-hand batter degrom delivers a breaking ball that's it for a called strike now they could one well you hear of gym rats or rink rats and Corey Seager has been a baseball rat his whole life of course his brother Kyle is a big leaguer with the Seattle Mariners and Corey was growing up he wore cleats all over the place before he even started school the oh one fastball did he hold the swing nope he went around says home plate up alan porter at the cow know it to Seager they say was it tears when he was told that he couldn't work leads to kindergarten and he is certainly as precocious as they come we've seen this a lot lately kids coming up at 20 and 21 and playing major roles the O 2 pitch fastball upstairs one ball and two strikes his dad played collegiately at Fairleigh Dickinson University which is where longtime Mets vice-president of media relations Jay Horowitz worked before taking the Mets job way back in 1984 his dad's idol was Don Mattingly the Dodger manager now in a throw to first Kendrick is back standing should mention that neither of these teams steal many bases in fact the Mets stole fewer bases than any national league team and the Dodgers stole 59 overall which is 13th among the 15 national league teams 1 & 2 to Sigurd the grom to the belt now the pitch swung on and missed strike three got him at 98 with a fastball two strikeouts in the inning and Adrian Gonzales will be the better Mets baseball is brought to you by Remax Remax agents are trained to help you find the perfect fit wherever you go wherever you're heading locally or globally go to remax.com to find an agent for all the things that move you each office independently owned and operated so here's Gonzales go hit 275 with 28 homers at 90 RBIs but if you think most of those twenty eight homers came in the first month of the season well it's understandable he got off to such a fast start left-hand batter to grab the limors and a fastball outside for ball one that Gonzales hit five home runs in the first three games of the year he's banked a couple against degrom in a short sample to eight at-bats two home runs three it's all told against him and a former met Justin Turner waits on deck Murphy the second baseman out at short right-field they're not over shifted though the one oh they can just off the outside corner two of nothing the Dodgers including the pitcher Kershaw presents six left-handed bats against Jacob degrom there's a 64 point difference in how the lefties hit the graph as opposed to the right-handers the lefties at 2:45 the right he's just a buck 81 at Mattingly reacting to that the two own fastball missed outside three ánotá Gonzales with Turner on deck baby baby it's kind of ridiculous to think that way in the first inning the groms being extra careful here against Gonzales with that right-hand hitter on deck what we mean about this that first run being so precious three-oh pitch he takes it and it's in for a called strike and with those temperatures in the 90s Howie the ball is absolutely exploding off the bats we've seen that all summer here at Dodger Stadium with the drought conditions here 97 degrees just an hour ago you make one mistake you can really pay for it tonight well boy did the ball ever fly out of here during the workout yesterday Lucas Duda was the star of that show as he was during BP today the grom ready 3 1 pitch swung on and foul straight down at home plate will pause quickly for station idea the wor it's Radio Network this is Christin marks for wor New York a teen boy is dead after falling down an elevator shaft of an abandoned building in Brooklyn details after the game now heroes Josh Lewin with you at Dodger Stadium Game one of the division series scoreless in the bottom of the 1st now a Kendrick is the runner at first due to now playing behind him with a 3-2 count to Gonzales Kendrick will be running on the pitch the grom to the belt Kendrick runs the pitch swung on and missed strike three he flew a fastball down in the zone by Gonzales at 98 miles an hour and that retires the side three strikeouts for degrom no runs a hit one left so he and lucas duda who's on deck or probably flat broke right up downtown first pitch to d'Arnaud a right-hand hitter is a sinker low inside for ball one fact due to just rolled his eyes yes day when I asked him how much he had to shell out for tickets for friends and family suffice to say it was a healthy number the one oh let's take it upstairs to a noted door no but that's a curious to see how Travis responds to these four days off because he finished just poor for his last 27 and six for his last 47 getting to 68 overall - Oh from Kershaw pulled on the ground to third right at Justin Turner he's got it fires to first in time one away that will bring up Riverside's lucas duda next fans make the call to the bullpen and replace that inefficient beast in your basement with an american-made peerless boiler to go to peerless boilers dot-com for more info and to find a dealer near you remember peerless builds America's best boilers Josh was mentioning earlier that Lucas actually knocked a letter right out of some signage underneath the big scoreboard above the right-field pavilion first pitch on the way to the left hand hit a fastball hit back towards the mound off the leg of Kershaw rolled slowly towards first nobody will get it and doun is aboard with an infield hit looked like it hit Kershaw right on the side of the foot around the instep nobody's come out of the Dodger dugout to check on him yet he's walking okay so the Mets with Lucas due to drilling one just off probably the heel of Kershaw's he reached back to try to deflect it it is on with an infield single I tell you what Alli after having been up for nine with seven strikeouts against Kershaw Duda on his last two swings against him now is two for two so Lucas is trying to get buiid get that confidence going that's something he can absolutely chew on well here's Michael Cuddyer who becomes a very important met against Kershaw and really the rest of this series considering they'll see lots of left-handed pitching first pitch on the way a fastball low ball one Cuddyer in his seventh postseason batting 259 with 10 homers 41 runs batted in and his teammates just rave about him yeah they looked like they were losing their way the last time Kershaw saw them course Cuddyer was banged up at the time to the 100 on the way swing and a Miss and the count one ball and one strike looked like a changeup there from Kershaw at 89 miles an hour but just when it looked as though the wheels might be coming off the Mets bus at times this year people like Cuddyer were able to galvanize the club and keep all of that stuff you worry about from taking place the one:1 swaying in a Miss at a breaking ball a hard slider of the count 1 & 2 back foot sliders a great pitch for Kershaw and he's got that the curve I mean the fastball speaks for itself but the secondary stuff when it's on is tremendous wanted to to Cuddyer Kendrick shading towards the bag at second Duda at first one out pitch breaking ball swung on and missed strike three just buried a curveball in the dirt and for Clayton Kershaw his third strikeout so two away Duda still at first and Ruben Tejada coming up through November second receive a $1,500 credit and 0.9% APR on any BMW 3-series as a tri-state BMW dot-com for details well from the go figure Department the guy who hits Clayton Kershaw best is the hitter coming to the box right now and that's Ruben Tejada who was 5 for 14 against Kershaw but Ruben made some significant contributions over the second half of the year after the all-star break he hit 287 including 340 in September and ideally you might want to think long tough as it is to score against Kershaw Wilmer Flores bat well it came down to Tejada x' glove and his success against Kershaw against the bat of Flores throw to first and do two back standing and have any met could benefit and did by the four days off after the season's finale on Sunday it was Wilmer Flores who was battling first a stiff back and then strep throat but he says he's good to go now after having lost hidden pounds no scored first pitch to Tejada pulled on the ground foul down the third base line its own one you have a question to ask the professor's little later tonight Josh and I will have the answer so tweet your question now - at MIT's booth using the hashtag asked the Prophet brought to you by Rutgers University continuing studies visit transform rutgers dot edu for online certificate programs each team with a hint no score two out top of the second due to slow runner at first not much of a lead outfield not deep and the o1 balanced right down and its own two on Ruben Tejada with Jacob degrom on deck so the Dodgers already have a no and two base hit maybe it's the Mets turn and do Santa Howie Clayton Kershaw's Panamanian kryptonite has been this guy Ruben Tejada always seems to make some contact at instant just a Turner basically guarding the line against Ruben at third I mean he's right on that line and behind the bag Justin just motion towards the hole wondering they should move a little further over the o2 on the way Kurt ball swung on and missed strike three ball in the dirt Ellis tags Tejada side retired four strikeouts for Kershaw final weekend last week turn her right hand better and the groms first pitch take it a low one and on the Dodgers were shutout but have no hit by Mike fiers and Jake Arrieta and those no-hitters came in a period of just 10 days here's the 1ohm Turner fouls it straight back out of play 1 & 1 but now that's off the table tonight as both teams have a hit although we're scoreless at the bottom of the second oh we have seen already of seven strikeouts in an inning and a half and Kershaw with a 98 mile an hour fastball and a 77 mile an hour curveball that's pretty impressive that is clay Kershaw he's probably the elite pitcher in the game now considering a full body of work the 1-1 breaking ball low it's 2 and 1 on Turner Justin was on the disabled list with a right thigh skin infection a couple of months ago and initially before they got that thing under control Justin was really scared they thought that might be something pretty serious here's the 2-1 fastball low three balls and one strike to Turner number wanna read a was with the Dodgers earlier this year on to the Braves but Turner's the guy it became the everyday third baseman 294 average 16 homers 60 RBIs from nearby Bellflower and the 3-1 pitch to him is Anthony's for a called strike 97 mile an hour fastball and Turner was the last person in Dodger Stadium to realize it he had started to take off in fact he did totally remove his shin guard on his lower left leg and start to walk towards first base but Allen Porter the home plate umpire son that's strike two and a quick scouting report on Porter he does usually have a pitcher friendly zone especially low so 3 & 2 the count to Turner the ground with a payoff pitch swinging to drive the left right at Cuddyer now back a step and beyond this reads he might have got a glove on it but it goes to the wall he picks it up on the warning track fires in is at second with a gift we'll see how they score it that ball was hit like a shot right at Michael Cuddyer he came in a step then as he tried to go back on the ball he just never got comfortable and it went just beyond his reach can't tell him that might have tipped the edge of his glove or not but Turner is at second with nobody out and it is scored a two base hit and there's a good representation of how the ball is gonna jump with the Santa Ana winds here having pushed on through still in the 90s light now I think could die or thought that ball is gonna be right at him instead it shot up towards his camp so that brings up left hand hitting Andre Ethier yeah it looked like the ball just barely deflected off the edge of his glove should have had it though and here is Ethier lines one foul down the left-field line out of play now is a 97 mile an hour fastball next time you need to send money send it on line at Western Union comm or with its mobile app sent money online quick as a clicker with Western Union calm so with that first run so crucial the gramo thought he had his first out of the second now has to muscle up Ethier had a good year for the Dodgers the oh one fastball fouled back over the screen Owen too early in the year it seemed that Ethier was an afterthought yasiel puig never really got it going this year and he's somewhat temperamental and played himself out of favor also wound up on the disabled list with a hamstring injury and Ethier who at first was thought of as basically a fourth outfielder played pretty much every day over the final third of the year going to the pitch breaking ball of the dirt one ball and two strikes with AJ Ellis a right-hand hitter on deck Ethier a solid Pro and although Terry Collins knows him from his days of the Dodgers system Ethier was not born a Dodger who is acquired in a deal with the Oakland A's but was in their farm system when Terry was running things here 1 & 2 the count outfield straightaway Turner leaves from 2nd the pitch fastball just outside very close pitch at 98 it's 2 & 2 Josh I don't know if you see the breakdown of the groms pitches to this point but he has thrown a hole a lot of fence balls yeah about a 3 to 1 ratio in fact almost so far a buck his first 30 pitches he's 2 & 2 here to Ethier to Honda the shortstop in behind Turner trying to keep him close the pitch tries to hold his swing he went around at a high fastball strike three and Ethier very angry about that is arguing with alan porter the home plate up now there was Porter who made the call without going down to third and looking for help from umpire Chris Guccione and he did not signal foul ball or anything like that Ethier wanted Guccione to offer his input but Porter said nope I've got it yeah Porter immediately pointed to Ethier in that same split second Ethier pointed down to Chris Guccione but Porter Trump's so that's one big out for degrom Turner at second and here's AJ Ellis right-hand hitter first pitch to him high and tight a fast ball ball one and as Josh mentioned earlier hey Jael is basically a pedestrian hitter well he's on a 10 game postseason hitting streak during which he's hit 406 outfield straightaway against him the ground to the belt keeps looking at Turner now comes home and box I don't know the time was called or not look the second base umpire Greg Gibson has his hands up to indicate time had been call because degrom as he came off the rubber suddenly aborted his delivery and a major thing maybe he slipped her somehow rolled an ankle but it was the second base up who yelled and that's coming from behind to Grob that's what god Jake's attention that's why I stopped it now he's ready to go and the one Oh way upstairs over threw that fastball at 97 to the count two and nothing well the drama is humping in the fast balls and a lot of them at how he had been up the Dodgers have chased up so far and if there's a kind of a wind blowing through their dugout right now and I would think the first huff and puff would come from there hitting coach Mark McGwire it would be guys slow it down make him get it down but so far the Dodgers are up there hacking at the high heat remember first base is open here you've got the 8 and 9 hitters Peterson and Kershaw to follow Ellis to a no the count degrom ready now the pitch fastball that's in for a called strike it's 2 & 1 Ellis on the year hit 238 and he too missed some time on the DL with right knee inflammation no score Dodgers threatening Turner with a leadoff double misjudged by Cuddyer Ethier struck out now it'll be a 2-1 to AJ Ellis on the way and pop foul it'll reach the seats back upstairs behind home plate another fastball though at 96 and the count 2 & 2 Kershaw this year struck out 301 betters the Grom struck out 205 becoming the 11th meant to strike out 200 or more in his season he pitched 191 innings for T less than Kershaw 2 & 2 and a pitch swung on and missed strike three so degrom coming back with what looked like a hard slider picks up his fifth strikeout before Jack Peterson hits we'll pause for station ID on the wor Mets radio network this is the home of the Mets the new 710 wor New York Howie Rose Josh Lewin with you at Dodger Stadium for Game one of the division series Clayton Kershaw and Jacob degrom are pitching as though they're in sudden death and the first run wins with these two it might turn out that way anyhow and thinking accordingly Terry Collins is gonna walk Jake a joc pederson and go after Clayton Kershaw to try to get out of the inning this way now I'm not sure you do that in many if not most regular-season games even with this matchup but given the urgency of this game and of course its importance well Peterson even though he's struck out 170 times this year is going to be walked intentionally to get to Kershaw and try to get through the inning that way attentional ball 4 is forthcoming Kershaw pitch is 127 this year but he fashions himself a better hitter than that was a great athlete all through high school he and Matthew Stafford the Lions quarterback were best friends and in fact Kershaw when he pitched Stafford was his catcher and on the football team his curse off snapping the ball back to mr. Safford well now it's degrom was going to be snapping it up there to Kershaw's Peterson is aboard an intentional walk kershaun 9 out of 71 this year at the play that's a 127 average on the year two doubles two runs batted in and so no score two out Turner at second Peterson the runner at first here in the second inning first pitch to Kershaw breaking ball over for a call strike nothing at one so with all those fast balls that the groms been pumping to the first seven hitters he starts Kershaw off with a breaking ball Kershaw does have 62 hits a Lee the last five years it's actually the most of any pitcher in baseball at E in this year hitting goes 127 oh and one the count 2 that's left-handed now the pitch fastball that's on the inside edge at 97 in the count and to degrom quickly ahead in the count here the Grob just raring to go now waiting on the first base side of the pitching rubber Kershaw measures a couple of practice swings as the Grom sets at the waist runners lead second at first the o2 swing in a chopper towards third a foul ball and the fans here giving Kershaw the Bartolo Colon treatment that Bart gets at Citi Field make contact get a golf clap those golf claps there's already been from beach balls being bopped around here too at the playoffs they got two on two out there's beach balls going well if we hadn't seen that basically since 1962 here we'd think it odd but it's almost as much a part of the landscape here and one of them just got loose out in left field as those San Gabriel Mountains out behind the pavilion this is some gorgeous setting even when it's dark as it is now oh and to to Kershaw the grom to the belt now the pitch high in a way one ball and two strikes tried to make a chase a fastball out of the zone at least it's not one of those oh and two base hits that you mentioned earlier how a the Mets have given up 75 of those theirs here seven of them four home runs and that is on the high side of the curve in the majors according to Terry Collins it's a ton of Oh two hits one two pitch swung on and missed strike three got him with what looked like a slider and so now degrom throwing those breaking balls and he did it to strike out Kershaw on get out of trouble game tonight doing what they're known for degrom will bat he's a lefty when he bats 186 hitter with four runs batted in the Dodger outfielders give him plenty of room in right-center under the bright lights here's Kershaw with the first one swinging a topper foul down the third base line right near the shoes of Tim Tuffle the third-base coaches box next historians will someday tell you Kershaw has was a start to turn this season on its ear back and flushing how he talked about it earlier July 24th flirted with that perfect game toyed with the Mets that day a one pitch slider down and outside seemed like that was the the Howard Beale in network moment of where mad as you know what we're not going to take it anymore for the Mets they kind of struck back to the universe the next day conforto comes up for eBay and Johnson acquired them Clippard and Cespedes one one fastball fouled back 1 & 2 tonight this 2015 regular season really will be remembered as pre Kershaw start at Citi Field and post Kershaw starts at Citi Field two very different med teams no score on the top of the third game 1 1 2 pitch curve bounced it up there 2 & 2 talked about Kershaw needing to slay some postseason demons eight postseason starts he's got one win here's a second best left-handed pitcher in this ballpark tonight one behind the Sandy Koufax rock on the rubber here's a 2-2 delivery breaking ball swung on and beaten on the ground near first a Grom flying down the line frisbee toss Gonzales to Kershaw covering got him by only half a step the long-striding former college shortstop Jacob degrom quickly down the line one out and the veteran Curtis Granderson will delete alley by the on-deck-circle to give brandish to give the Grom time to get back to the dugout catch his breath on the steamy hot night give us time also to tell you Nissan's an easier choice and ever with her most exciting fuel-efficient lineup get great offers across their full line shop your local Nissan store and choose Nissan comm they'll shift for Granderson who remember when after the very first pitch of this playoff series and he belted it to right all the way back to the warning track but he was out 259 hitter in the regular season and the pitch to him crackles in for a strike nothing in one Granderson delivered I think exactly what the team was hoping for this year huge factor in ending this nine-year playoff drought breaking ball snapping just outside one in one crowd thought that was a strike it's pretty weird how a guy who bats leadoff in New York City can somehow be under the radar but he's been buried under the avalanche of excitement generated by Cespedes and all the young pitching one one fastball up and outside two and one Granderson's on-base percentage 364 is best since 2011 2 1 delivery from the big left-hander Kershaw tried to check his swing couldn't do it breaking ball down outside 2 & 2 with the swing up over top of it kurtis wanting to rinse and spit the sour taste of the postseason failure from his mouth his last October as a Yankee of course not a met he went 3 for 30 last time he was playing baseball in October motion on the mound the 2-2 pitch curve is looped in the air shallow left field that ball might fall it does parachuting down in there for a hit beyond Seager and in front of the charging Carl Crawford so it is Granderson aboard with one out here in the third he just kind of stayed back on a breaking ball you just kind of fought it out there in a shallow left that's big because it's Granderson the left-handed hitter muscled Lange that bloop singled in against Kershaw on so it's bit of a bonus you get Granderson on now you've got David right behind him Granderson who hit just 182 here against lefties and had to rally to get that average that high brings up David Wright who had actually a 12 pitch at-bat I called it an 11 in the first inning that was a 12 pitch at-bat that turned into a walk longest at-bat of the year for David before that it had been eight pitches and he worked Kershaw to a dozen Gonzales holding on Granderson and the pitch waved at and missed nothing in one a high fastball now we keep talking about how important it is to just get out and get one in this game get a lead Granderson will measure a lead here at first and he's a team's best base stealing option however Kershaw has got a tremendous pickoff move he does not let you run setting near the chest here he comes so I can it's fouled to the right side nothing into it's such a good move Josh that a lot of times you'll have a manager try and buy a balk from an umpire and in fact Kershaw did walk three times this year second-most in the league so you can get him on one of those you're able to get a big enough lead where at times Kershaw will walk a little bit of a shift on for David Wright here remember a right-hand batter the pitch to a Moen - steered in there strike three called and David White is the latest to take up the strike zone of alan porter with alan porter right back to the dugout and we have to Cespedes to keep the inning going now Cespedes striding very slowly up to the plate he was the second half difference maker the cuban Don clendenon 17 second half homers just one less than he had in a hundred and two games with Detroit and it is tough to take your eyes off him from the day-glo compression sleeve for that big number 52 medallion dangling from his neck body of an NFL linebacker he commands your attention and they'll shift for him 2/3 between second and third huge hole on the right side of the infield as a fastball is dumped to a low one and out you don't often see the exaggerated shift against white hand at batting in Cespedes by the way has struggled against lefties this year little lob toss to first from Kershaw duenas doesn't have a hit against a lefty anytime there's been a pitch in the upper third of the strike zone and there have been close to a hundred of them there's kind of a book on Cespedes now if you're a lefty on how to get him out no score for now the pitch down and in and Cespedes runs the count to two and out Cespedes the guy who told Terry Collins the fun's just starting boss may even start some fun right here if you can get ahold of one no wind just a sticky steamy 90-degree night here in LA scoreless in the top of the third the pitch bounced foul near third base two and one you want to breathe just have Cespedes do what he did there swing the bat he'd take such a big cut that's as good as a fan know what an incredible journey for Cespedes from Capitola cuba with its 30 houses on three streets to this $50,000 stadium of who's who of celebrities here tonight and trying to get the Mets on top here on the top of the third inning Granderson the lead from first two out now the pitch swinging a while back he took a big cut 2 & 2 speaking of celebrities you see Koufax I did see Koufax and he's almost 80 years old Howie I tweeted he looks better in a pair of jeans at 80 than I did at 25 he's just boiled in period baseball and royalty the guy doesn't age I mean seriously he looks like he's 48 50 years old he's almost eighty two balls two strikes two Cespedes Gonzales continuing to hold on Granderson outfield deep and Kershaw Hall will again lob a throw to first to get Granderson scrambling back it's Koufax and Terry Collins our friends in Flint the Mets clinched the National League East couple of weeks ago in Cincinnati Terry thought it was really cool that he got a congratulatory call from the great mr. Koufax Granderson extends the lead by half a step off of first Kershaw Guillen setting now delivers breaking ball swing and a Miss down he goes justice is out he is struck out twice tonight so the Mets can't cash in on a one-out single we go to the bottom of the third to see if degrom can hold serve no score between the Mets and Dodgers Game one Carl Crawford leads off first pitch breaking ball swung on and missed nothing in one Crawford a strikeout victim in the first inning a 98 mile an hour fastball is what got him the ground is pretty much parked his car in the 98 zone tonight oh one just a shade Lowe's is alan porter one and one at one was off speed got you a scoreboard update momentarily sponsored by your trihonda dealers go to trihonda dealers comm check out their best deals today 1-1 pitch she was fired high two and one cardinals get out to a one-nothing lead on the Cubs in their best of five Tommy Pham and Stephen Piscotty hit home runs late to put it away a four nothing final Lackey over Lester 2-1 pitch late swing and a Miss blazing heat at 97 2 & 2 Royals rallied and even their series with the Astros at 1 5 for Kansas City wins today Ben Zobrist add the game when he hit 2 2 pitch is popped in the air near 3rd and short David Wright galloping over but the hata calls him off the shortstop plugs it he's got it one man down here in the 3rd and Howie Kendrick coming up first time anybody besides Travis d'Arnaud has been able to secure an out for Jacob degrom all the other outs for on strikeouts well if it gives the Mets a little bit of incentive here a little bit of good karma anyway you have a number 3 seat against the number 2 seed in the AL on the number three seed is up to Oh tell you more in a second as pitch comes to Kendrick bouncing ball near short the Hadas got the third hop shuffle step on the throw to get Kendrick to up two down but the Texas Rangers go end it up kind of backing into that al West title near the three seed they go to heavily favored Toronto and win twice they won today in 14 innings pushed across to in the top of the 14th off former met with Troy Hawkins the guy filling in for former Dodger Adrian Beltre hunter Alberto had the game-winning hit so two-nothing Rangers in that series Seager the rookie slapped one towards left-field on the first cut Cuddyer on the move reaches though that's a fair ball it bounces into the and up and over that short spends it's a double and the second time that could dire his miss played a flyball into a double tonight behind Jacob degrom slicing fly ball does from our angle looked like was going to bend a foul to die or lunging at it and it hit maybe about three feet inside the truck lineman Cuddyer ended up hanging on that shallow wall out there like a towel on a towel rack chasing it it looked like he took a bit of a wrong route he cuts straight across and then realized he was going to have to get back on that ball in the left-field corner and so once again Jacob degrom has to work around the fly ball that might have been gone and now he's got to face Adrian Gonzales the guy that homered against him twice in nine at-bats here come the Dodger fans no score for now bottom of the third rocking the pitch wave an immense nothing in one Huggins olive's had been up in the count three NL back in the first inning degrom rallied to make it three and two and then he struck him out with one of those 98 errs Gonzalez a five-time all-star 28 home runs during the regular season outfield deep a little bit of room form in right-center Oh won his club to foul up near first nothing into degrom came out and established here early kind of marked his territory here at Dodger Stadium it's like he went out in the all-star game in Cincinnati and blew him away and for the opening day start he had for the Mets at Citi Field this area at a one two three first inning only needed nine pitches had to work a little harder here tonight but adrenaline the overwash of that doesn't seem to be an issue oh and to the count here comes low getting away from d'Arnaud but staying at second base is Seager has blocked right up the third base line and d'Arnaud hunted it down about 40 feet away from home plate got a quick moment to remind you to call Bochy or all waterproof he needs Bochy the waterproofing specialist you can trust since 1955 serving Long Island in Queens very proudly but about your brother's cambios cci a b or os calm dangerous lefty Adrian Gonzales with a runner at second two out no score in the third long-haired right-hander degrom at the belt as a sign he wants him door no here's a 1 2 pitch taken just a little bit outside 2 & 2 get a hesitate Allen Porter's got one of those late registering at strike calls it looked like he flinched but he wouldn't call it degrom about to make his 57th pitch of the night he's in the third inning former met Justin Turner waiting on deck the set the kick the two two swinging a liner foul in the crowd third base side Gonzalez was ready for that it was the second straight pitch on which d'Arnaud set up away and Jake hit the target the pitch prior to the one just fouled off did not get the call from alan porter and shouldn't have because he hit the target but the d'Arnaud was off the plate this time with Gonzalez protecting away was able to foul that off two balls two strikes runner at second is Seager the twenty one-year-old here's the pitch taken and it's a little outside again off-speed three and two and the Grom will just rub up that baseball very slowly very casually stares out to a distance points in left field just trying to get his bearings fans waving those white towels here were given when they came in tonight even the celebrities Larry King's gotta tallies waving it right now three and two here's the pitch swing and a Miss he got him Jacob degrom with a slider to take care of Adrian Gonzalez and the inning is over the threat is averted seven strikeouts in three innings for mr. degrom and cleanup in this lineup for Terry Collins first pitch from Kershaw coming at slow want to know is that any kind of surprise to you mark that here's Murph not only in the game against the lefty but he didn't clean up yeah a bit you know but I was also kind of surprised at how Terry insisted on leaving all these lefties in there just overall one oh delivery on its way taken and it's low to NL conforto is the only exception and for all the talk about well he's not fully formed yet you don't really trust the defense it's been kadai or the veteran who's missed played a couple of poles and left tonight now that was certainly a controversial decision by Terry there stayed pretty consistent I think he you know tough conforto out against lefties in the regular season 200 from Kershaw comes it's whacked in the air deep to right field that ball is going to go Daniel Murphy parks it in the bullpen the Mets have the lead one-nothing here in the fourth and if Clayton Kershaw is trying to avoid flashing back he's doing a good job of hiding it but this is what killed him in the postseason last year homers two lefties Daniel Murphy touching a home plate now joyously running into that myths dugout on the first base side he's given the team a one nothing lead are we saying about Terry Collins benek Murphy cleanup in the 15th time this year he said cleanup but he's never had a bigger hit from that spot in the order than his home run off of Kershaw he danced around the bases and suddenly Terry's a genius here is Travis Darnell with the Mets ahead one nothing he swings and misses flied away at a fastball nothing in one there's so much talk about manufacturing runs in these games that no capitalizing on mistakes like that against a guy this good with a home run those are big too I think the Mets are gonna have to do some of that here I'm against this bitching something subtle as well as Darnell will swing and pop one foul back to the net taking a couple of pitches right away to get up to an O and draw the fastball I think is a big deal I mean Kershaw doesn't groove too many fast balls but that one was pumped pretty much right down the middle and Murphy's eyes got big like saucer plates right there that ball was a good 15 feet into the bullpen Oh 2 pitch Anthony's called third strike to Darnell and his sinkhole continues to get a little bit deeper at least offensively anyway one down and up comes Duda another lefty who's in the lineup here mark and a guy that really had never had success against Kershaw until his last two swings he is 2 for his last two against him having been old for 9 with 7 punch outs before that played a little pinball there yeah Kershaw trying to kick it and deflect it towards first shift is on for Duda and the pitch is watched over the outside corner strike one and you know mortars very quickly back to Terry Collins six years ago he was managing a college summer league team as a favor to a friend oh one pitch on the way curve is low 1 & 1 and you know wasn't quite Lou Brown in the movie major-league Jerry you know wasn't born out of retirement from selling white walls at tire world like the fictional Lou Brown but Terry did wonder if he'd ever make it back to the big leagues as a coach let alone a manager and here he is and of all places LA and ahead one to nothing in the 4th inning 1 1 pitch fastball rippin a missed 1 & 2 it's certainly a guy who worked really really hard to get here and I think he deserves a lot of credit for getting the Mets through some pretty lean years and also this year when they had a couple of months there and no main gym where he really helped hold a thing together 1 & 2 to do 2 now the pitch curve taken low 2 & 2 we tried to cover it in that story in the paper today and our special we wrote a profile of Terry Collins and you know kind of detailed some of those things that you're mentioning there are a lot of things he had to fight through to get to this point it looked like he was literally busting his buttons standing on that first base line during the warm-ups and intros - to curb swing-and-a-miss down goes do two ball drops picked up Ellis fires to first to complete the out as two down in the inning and Qadir comes up and mark before we let you go just to kind of pass it in on Kershaw who now again is pitching in a deficit situation playoff failures are up wanting him he's got a five point one two career postseason tra it's not like he's pitching a poor game tonight you know he makes one mistake but again he's behind in a huge game for them it's so baffling to just so good and you wonder how much of that is just a weird look at John the way to Cuddyer that's taken inside one and out no price is a guy in the same boat great regular-season success struggles in October but yeah it's just baffling considering how good those guys are 1o pitch fastball on the outside corner one and one just to put it in perspective there are 733 big league pitchers that have pitched 1,500 innings or more he's number one in terms of ER a all-time curve is swatted in the air toward center by Cuddyer hangs up there Peterson under it backing a step now makes the catch and that retires the side thank you mr. Craig thank you nicely done say the same for Daniel Murphy if you're a Mets fan he clocked one out of here off the great Clayton Kershaw hanging curve last year in st. Louis here's Turner the former met Dan he'll take on the outside corner from degrom nothing in one yeah that was the shocker the Dodgers I believe had a two-run lead that was a three-run homer that Adams hit he knew was gone as soon as he hit it 2:01 delivery is taken outside one on one was the only home run given up by Kershaw all year off a curve and it just so happened to tilt the entire playoff series I was in st. Louis Mardon was in st. Louis tonight beat the Cubs if you didn't hear one one peel the foul off to the right by Turner one and two poured another final there it's a one nothing parcel here on the Murphy home run your trihonda dealers and white should have sparks like a pro with the standard multi-view rear view camera in a Honda Civic check out the great deals at trihonda dealers calm outfield around the left against Turner bats out of an upright stance one two is drilled and a left a base hit to Dyer running towards the left center alley cuts it off and flings it back in Justin Turner is 2 for 2 Andre Ethier will bat with a dying man aboard after we come back from a 10 second ization idea on the wor minute radio network driven by your trihonda dealers this is Christin marks for wor New York a pit bull attacks a little girl in New Jersey and is shot dead by police details after the game with how heroes Josh Lewin the Mets lead Game one one to nothing road teams have fared very well early in his postseason of 2015 it's trying to keep that mojo going 3,000 miles from Citi Field left-hand batting Andre Ethier taking and it's outside it's one and out Ethier hardly got into the playoff games a no.6 against the Mets but Alesi was here as a rookie his biggest contribution he lined into a double play in Game three of that series coming off the bench tying man at first one owe delivery taken on the outside corners a wide outside corner and in fact the scoreboard is reading 2 and L for board guy thought it was outside alan porter says note we got one on one the now scoreboard guy acquiescence Andre Ethier remember was furious when he was called out on strikes his first at-bat and he's not real thrilled to hear he didn't feel the devil play depth Granderson deep in right now degrom is 1 1 delivery swinging it's fouled straight back who he was on that but under it 1 & 2 fought down below us by I don't know Kate Winslet I mean you know the odds are good it's gonna be a celebrity she wouldn't be sitting that far back though no that's true she's big alright Jason Bateman caught that one now Jason will be standing further down Justine Bateman there you go Natalie from facts of life just caught a foul ball one nothing New York were in the bottom of the fourth inning degrom on this sweaty Friday night to the belt in him with a one-two swing and a Miss a weak cut down he goes Jacob degrom has eight strikeouts in three in the third now AJ Ellis coming up you know Josh that's the good news but when you strike a lot of people out generally that means you throw in a lot of pitches and the Grom is already thrown 68 pitches here and so that doesn't speak to much more than six innings unless he's able to really minimize that pitch count from here on out and it becomes as the game goes along and interesting thing for Terry Collins if he's got any thought of bringing back to Guam early if there is such an animal as a game fork because AJ Ellis settles in now and feel the DoublePlay depth and he takes on the outside corner strike one do bombs doing great tonight so you could roll with him on eighteen pitchers that's fine but you'd be loath to bring him back on three days rest if you do that that's the balance of Terry Collins has to try to figure now over the next few innings do you trust there was middle inning guys enough 1 1 the count to the righty Ellis and the pitch is carved into the air down the right side towards a crowd into the crowd nothing into my guest Josh is that one of these starting pitchers tonight for at least one of these starting pitchers tonight will pitch a fourth game because if somebody's going to be behind two games to one and playing to save their season right and I think that's where you bring back either Kershaw or degrom little dicey or with the Grom was had Tommy John surgery but you know I think that they probably would bring Jake back on three if it means saving the year yeah I would bet against a degrom Kershaw rematch but I would bet for one of those two guys being in that game if there is such a thing Mets ahead one nothing o to pitch rockets outside one and two AJ Ellis is playing in part I think because their other catcher Yasmani Grandal finished the season in the mother of all slumps for 482 not gonna get a movie made out of your life getting Oh 49 down the stretch that's part of why there's an AJ Ellis sighting tonight one to delivery now swinging it's another foul ball off to the right side those are the guys you don't trust it games like this right guy comes up for 482 a hitting ninth inning game on the line then they make that movie after all that's baseball Howie Mets are being out hit 4 to 3 where they lead the game one nothing on the Daniel Murphy home run another NLDS home run allowed by Kershaw to a lefty the infield settles the DoublePlay depth the 1/2 is lined up the alley in right center base hit going again at Granderson but stopping at second base is Turner had a good shot to go to third but he got kind of caught watching Granderson pursue the ball Nets might have gotten a break there I think they did Josh the ball was not hit all that horn so Granderson needed a little time to get to it and by the time he did Turner had already committed to staying at second and the reason that such a big base he doesn't get is twofold one and he got in the 30s it positioned thus more on and out but now I'm talking about the eight nine hitters in the order coming up doc Peterson is an all-or-nothing guy that they intentionally walked last time boy his diamond to turned into a cubic zirconium around July first he said 155 since then he was all the rage before then at a decent-enough batting average was sending home runs out of here it seemed like every three days two on one out for him the pitcher on deck the groms pitch is slugged in the air but only getting in the left field it's shallow in fact and on comes to Dyer makes the catch in front of Cespedes so first pitch swinging with the pitcher on deck joc pederson may be a little antsy after the intentional walk wants to do something but he kind of chased one right there it looked like the ground first pitch was inside he swung at it anyway and just lifted it to regular depth left field you know what that ball had such late life and Peterson just got beat has such a good pitch by degrom that late life that runs in on the hands and you can understand I think Peter said going after something in the strike zone there because you had Kershaw on deck and I've got Kershaw with two on two out but I'd give a lot of credit to the grump for making that yeah in that spot well he's already worked out of a leadoff double that was in the second here's the pitch to Kershaw and is rammed in for a strike nothing in one the challenge is sitting was the leadoff single and then first and second at with one out it's now first and second two out and clayton kershaw again it handles a bat pretty well bats is a lefty again it's a long and lean right-hander to Gromit oh one late swing and a Miss it's nothing into and Kershaw back out of the box Carl Crawford on deck the Grom remember had a pedestrian September but then his last tune-up against the Nationals about a week ago was very good with two on two out the Mets ahead here's the pitch late swing foul off to the third base side 96 miles an hour that time already eight strikeouts in the game degrom had seven strikeouts through four and that tune-up game against the Nationals he can take care of the pitcher here he'd be at nine through four innings tonight Kershaw wearing the countdown is back to to actually Owen - excuse me is the count right now in the pitch a little bit low it is one ball two strikes two out in the inning he's just thrown way too many pitches he's at 77 now you'd like to be out of the fourth inning at about 60 the Urich 15 on average Turner and Ellis have the leaders respectively from second and first here's a one two bounced it to the plate nicely stopped by Travis d'Arnaud shifting to his right and he scooped it light up so it is a 2 2 count now with two on two-out the Guam with 14 regular-season wins and again no spotlight seems too bright for Jacob degrom he's basically the same age as Clayton Kershaw I want to start talking about Oh degrom he's so young he's really not very poised Kershaw requesting time and backing out her Shawn degrom were born 11 weeks apart [Applause] Malone Mets all start with a 2.5 er a Jacob degrom ready to go back to work now with two on two out MIT's ahead by a run 2 2 pitch taken and its high full count so from oh and 2 to 3 and 2 to the pitcher and a veteran hitter on deck in Carl Crawford here comes a crowd again waving those white giveaway towels 50,000 strong here at Dodger Stadium the Grande is trying to tune them all out and get Kershaw runners will be in motion now here's the payoff pitch swinging a fly ball well struck left-center back those Cespedes racing warning track got it on the warning track two steps before he gets to the wall a built by the pitcher to the opposite field and Cespedes is equal to it the mitts get out of the inning it's Ruben Tejada go try to kick start something and he's always hit mr. Kershaw pretty well back to the play-by-play here is how he rose all right Josh Tejada who struck out his first time is 5 out of 15 against Kershaw right hand better than degrom then Granderson and Kershaw is first pitch is taken on the outside corner a called strike a fastball and it's nothing at one Kershaw needed 65 pitches to get through four innings and that's with eight strikeouts the Grob is thrown 15 for the oh one fastball swung on and best that one down at his own and the count nothing and two you know Kershaw tonight Greinke tomorrow between them they went 35 and 10 this year with a 1.90 earned run average at 65 game started now the Mets have the lead here and the o2 on the way is taken on the outside corner strike three call so Kershaw like he threw a little slider that caught the outside edge for his ninth strikeout one away Jacob degrom coming up the injury update is brought to you by injury lawyer.com the Rothenberg law firm went a fighting and winning on behalf of seriously injured clients for over 40 years first pitch to degrom is a fastball that's outside ball one have you been injured call one eight hundred sixty four 88 88 or visit injury lawyer.com Steven Matz lines up now for game for the one Oh pop foul coming straight back out of play one at one but we'll issue two disclaimers on that one that's assuming that nothing else pops up between now and then relative to the muscle in his back that was tight and forced him to miss sometime late in the year he did throw nearly 90 pitches in the instructional league the other day the 1/1 pop foul going back into the seats downstairs it's 1 & 2 that was yesterday and he came through it fine well the other thing is again if the Mets are down in this series two games to one do they necessarily go to Mets I don't think that's etched in stone at all a lot of that depends on how the gromp comes through this game where the Mets are if they're ahead of the series two games to one and that's is okay I think Matt's pitches game for here's the one two pitch curveball fouled straight down at home plate the Terry Collins being very careful and wisely so given the enormity of only in numbers of the media people here in Los Angeles not to commit or to even come close to committing to anything hey you know the last couple of it Division Series Mets haven't even needed a game for including one against the Dodgers there's the 1 2 pitch breaking ball in the dirt - and - well in fact the Mets have never lost a five-game series they've won three division series which are five games at most they did that at 99 against Arizona 2000 against the Giants no.6 against the Dodgers and they won a pair of five game League Championship Series before they were expanded to 7 to 2 on the way fastball swung on and missed strike three and that is strikeout number in for Clayton Kershaw with two out of the fifth inning he's got dominating stuff and again really the only thing that went long for him he got to to a no on Murphy and Murphy guest fastball guessed correctly and just walloped one it puts Kershaw and I've got a defensive mindset again he's got to explain himself why he can't win in the postseason Curtis Granderson coming up did you know being struck by a car as the most common cause of injury-related death among children the New York City vision zero initiative reminds you pause and look before you turn your choices mattered Granderson has not struck out and that's a headline first pitch fastball in for a call strike nothing at one here we are with two out in the top of the fifth inning and he is the only Mets hitter in the lineup misses his third time up who hasn't struck out the oh one taken inside a fastball wanted one as little irony of that and the curtis strikes out a lot seventh most of the leaf during the regular season 151 times infield over shifted the 1-1 pitch a curveball fouled weekly rolling to David Wright in the on-deck circle and it's a ball and two strikes now on Granderson he served a little notice oh I think a lead a very first pitch of this playoff series he almost hit out and went after it right away and bonded out to the warning track that's why I think you gotta be aggressive if that near the strike zone against Kershaw a12 on the way lined up the middle base hit going into center field so Curtis turns first and holds with his second hit against Kershaw the first was a bloop that he muscled into left center this one a laser hit right back through the originator and so with two out that will bring David Wright to the plate as Granderson was right on a fastball well so much for the lefties not being able to get anything done against Kershaw Granderson's got two hits tonight Murphy's got the home run dude has got a hit so that's four hits for lefties now and we're only in the fifth inning I've got David Wright who has walked and struck out looking David hit 351 against the lefties this year of course a relatively short sample because of the fact that he only had 152 at-bats he's a lifetime 340 hitter against the lefties takes the first pitch on the inside corner of the knees called strength nothing in wanna hard sinker by Kershaw was now allowed four hits Cespedes waiting on deck Kendrick the second baseman shaded towards the bag there's a wide hole on the right side of the infield Granderson is not able to measure too big a lead against the lefty Kershaw David Wright talking to the home plate up Alan Porter not liking that call now the old one a breaking ball did he go around they'll check to first at no swing according to the first base up Jim wolf in the count wanted one you know he mentioned the three box that Kershaw has allowed this year and it might not be that they're necessarily on the move to first base he has a tendency with a runner on to come set and then kind of lean forward beginning his delivery almost disguising a quick pitch starts the arms high over the head now sets at the letters the one one fastball down and in two balls and one strike so that's something that could get Kershaw into trouble as well certainly the quick pitch has been up controversial issue around a couple of Mets pitchers this year but most notably Hansel Robles even in that to Toronto Texas game today how he had flared up Josh Donaldson got into it with a pitcher who he thought was quick pitching him 2 & 1 the count on right one to nothing Mets in the fifth the pitch swing and a Miss and the count 2 and 2 there's that hard biting slider down and in and hitter sees fastball season heading towards the middle of the plate and then it just darts down and in and winds up near the ankles 2 & 2 the count Granderson at first two out of the fifth one to nothing New York Kershaw up over the head now come set and throws to first Granderson is back standing now when a Cespedes the on-deck hitter we love to put a little bit more distance here between the Mets and the Dodgers it's been kind of a drip drip drip against the Grom the pipe hasn't burst yet but runners in every inning to it to the count to right Shaw sets now 2 pitch swung on and missed strike three side retired again that hard biting down and him slider for strike-out number 11 three inning in the Mets are done in the fifth in Embree inning their old four six with men in scoring position Carl Crawford left-hand batter shows bunt takes a fastball for a call strike nothing at one when Terry Collins perfect world the groms able to get this game into the seventh inning and then Terry can go to his strongest three relievers in the bullpen but the groms got a couple innings to get there the oh one swung on and missed good hard sinker and the count no balls and two strikes on Crawford with Howie Kendrick and Corey Seager to follow here in the fifth inning the Grom with a no two down and in slider one ball and two strikes Crawford once upon a time was a Gold Glove winner in the outfield with the Tampa Bay Rays where he had his best years one two pitch swung on and missed strike three and that's not the first time tonight that the Grom has gone up on Crawford who had a late almost half-hearted swing and for degrom that is strikeout number nine which means weasel we've already seen 20 strikeouts combined by both pitchers in this game and there's one out of the last of the fifth inning well I love this game the last time I saw it six days ago that they came between the Mets and the Nationals 35 strikeouts here's Kendrick a right-hand batter and he takes low ball one Kendrick hit an O to liner to right for a single of the first inning and then grounded to short in the third this the late game among four today the one Oh take it on the outside corner a call strike one scoreboard sponsored by the New York Lottery make the most of the numbers in front of you every day play win for and numbers from the New York Lottery here's the one one fastball hit on the ground back to the mound snagged by degrom nice play throws the first in time two men away Murphy was moving to his right might have been able to make the play anyway but the grom with a fast love will pause here for station ID on the wor Mets radio network News traffic and weather every 15 minutes Len Berman and Todd snit in the morning 6:00 till 10:00 Monday on 710 wor New York now heroes Josh Lewin with you at Dodger Stadium Mets one Dodgers nothing here's Corey Seager left-hand batter swings and misses at a fastball nothing at one the Gras maintaining his velocity at 97 the eighth pitch he's thrown in this inning and he's already got two out with nobody on he needs this the oh one fastball swung on him best Owen to Cardinals behind John Lackey and the bullpen beat the Cubs four to nothing in the opener of that division series in st. Louis here's the groms Oh too high to Seager one ball two strikes the American League Division Series the Texas Rangers up two games to none they want both in Toronto today winning six to four and 14 innings one two pitch breaking ball swung on and missed strike three side retired 10 strikeouts for degrom and he needed this an 11 pitch 5th inning so he's at 91 through five 10 strikeouts overall as the Dodgers go in order and at the end of five it's the best one the Dodgers nothing Koba New York's boldest here's Cespedes Kershaw deals fastball hit deep to left field that goes Crawford on to the track in the corner he makes the catch Cespedes got just out in front it had off the end of the bat a shade that flirted with a home run right in that left-field corner where his 330 feet away as it is down the line at right field here and remember those walls in left and right field are very very short they're just four feet high saw Michael Cuddyer just about tumble in earlier in pursuit of a ball that dropped in and now Cespedes just out in front misses an opportunity for a homerun one away and here is Murphy who has gone deep and deep in fact into the right-field bullpen is last time up first pitch on the way fastball downstairs one of nothing both these starters Hal you have a chance that their franchises record for most strikeouts in a postseason game we could see a Dodger record fall and the Met record fall tonight muwah no last ball queued off the end of the bat foul over by the Dodger dugout which is on the third base side here at the count one and one Dodgers got a 15 strikeout game from Sandy Koufax in the World Series against the Yankees back in 63 Mets got a 13 strikeout game from Tom Seaver right Game one of the 73 NLCS and wound up losing on homers by rows and bench two to one here's the one one fastball hit high in the air to shallow center moving in and under at Peterson and he makes the catch two men away you know the next day in that 73 LCS John Matlack pitched for the Mets at Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati and so much of the conversation around the Mets this year has been about well it experienced pitchers in the postseason how they gonna do well Matt lack that afternoon shut the Reds out on two hits and the only hits were off the bat of Andy Cusco who was a reserve outfielder basically a former Yankee in fact but that was in the peak of the Big Red Machine so here's d'Arnaud it's the first pitch on the ground the third slowly hit charged by Turner he's got it throws to first in time side retired Kershaw against the Mets in order middle in the sixth inning the Mets won and the Dodgers nothing on the wor Mets radio network driven by your trihonda dealers necessary in the seventh Adrian Gonzales leaves off the six that takes a fastball that's outside for ball one Gonzales is struck out twice the grom has struck out 10 walked one batter intentionally that was Peterson in the second to get to the pitcher the 100 hit deep to right field down the line hooking foul and out of play deep into the right-field corner and it's one and one to Adrian Gonzalez's through a charge into this sellout crowd that ball looked foul by a decent margin and saw the count 1 and 1 the ground ready now the pitch that's taken low 2 & 1 the other Division Series game we didn't tell you about if you haven't heard yet the Kansas City Royals who trailed by three runs a couple of times came back to beat the Astros five before in Kansas City to even that series at a game apiece here's the 2 1 pitch on the outside corner good pitch by degrom a fastball at 96 and the count 2 @ 2 right here in the opener in this division series Mets 1 Dodgers nothing just starting the bottom of the sixth Granderson very deep and right against Gonzales who has great power Murphy the second baseman out at Short right but they're not over shifted 2 2 pitch swinging a fly ball foul down the left-field line and out of play tomorrow night in Game two which is scheduled for and 9 o'clock Eastern Time start Noah syndergaard against Zack Greinke couple for who should run up high strikeout totals then of course he got a harvey in game 3 back at Citi Field that to be amazing here's the 2 2 pitch to Gonzales in tied on on a fastball full count right now Brett Anderson a lefty is expected to start that game for Los Angeles still not sure on the start time if that will be eight oh seven or eight 37 but we'll worry about that later here it's 3 and 2 to Gonzales degrom kicks and deals swung on and missed strike three 97 mile an hour fastball and that is strikeout number 11 for Jacob degrom three of them named Adrian Gonzales one down here in the sixth the Justin Turner who's 2 for two is coming up and how are you talking about a game coming off as ties to guys who would throw incredible stuff all kinds of varieties of stuff each with 11 strikeouts and we're not even through six innings now Turner's got them twice once not really his fault first pitch popped in the air to right field not deep moving in Granderson he's under it waiting and makes the catch two men away I said his and reference to Jacob degrom as Turner hit a liner to left field in the second inning leading off that was right at Michael Cuddyer but he misjudged it broke in then tried to scramble back in the ball just deflected ever so slightly off the edge of his glove for a leadoff double the Grom got out of that trouble the Dodgers are old for six tonight with men in scoring position but now the Grom has retired seven in a row the next pitch he throws will be as 100 and it'll be two Andre Ethier who has struck out twice one to nothing Mets on Murphy's homer in the fourth first pitch slider he held back they'll check at 31 around according to Chris Guccione and it's a strike so it's all one one do we hear his fans reacting like hey degrom doesn't need your help third base umpire and Ethier just can't buy a break again he's furious up there with how it's going this time he got help he wanted it last time and Porter wouldn't go the Oh one hit high in the air to the left side of the infield right backing up David Wright the third baseman to his right now makes the catch side retired and the Grom is retired eight straight the Dodgers go in order and at the end of six it's the Mets one the Dodgers nothing on the wor Mets radio network driven by your trihonda dealers postseason game have 11 strikeouts apiece it has never happened until tonight Duda taking inside and upstairs it's one a no to begin their seventh inning like Bob Murphy is to say you've never know what you'll see when you go to a big league ball game here we are the Mets first postseason game in nine years and already they're in the record books and this game if it stays this way can actually take you back in read verse two about 29 years ago pictures loaded do - - and hell that epic 86 NLCS Howie against Houston that was that the only time there was a one nothing game in the playoffs involving the Mets but the only run is a home run that was Glenn Davis that did it - oh pitch wanders low with three balls no strikes that was a game where Mike Scott struck out 14 and loudly announced that he would be a force in that series that was 29 years and one day ago that the Astros won Game one one nothing on a home run 300 from Kershaw is taken at the shins for a strike due to his three steps down the line thought it was a walk it is not not yet and everybody even due to mild-mannered his sort everybody's taking issue with alan porter strike zone tonight majestic Turner did it earlier he peeled off the shin guard started down the first Duda did not start to get undressed there Oh lefties have been undressing Kershaw tonight dude has got a hit three one riding inside and low ball four so there's a rare walk from Clayton Kershaw Michael Cuddyer comes up next matter of fact all the hits in this game you talk about bucking conventional wisdom all the hits for the Mets have been by the lefties the righties are let's see now Oh for 12 with eight strikeouts it that great we spent all week previewing analyzing and all of that stuff that's so overdone to where it almost goes in one ear and out the other and we're somewhat opposite form and baseball you don't know nothing as the old saying goes pitch on the way to Kadir and that's taken at the knees for strike one course in other ways this is very much according to form we figured low scoring and it certainly bent but again we didn't figure a record here first time and the postseason baseball history both starting pitchers with at least 11 strikeouts in a game the Murphy home run is the difference right now here's the pitch breaking ball outside it's one on one on Cuddyer and kadai remember turn down more money from his old team the Colorado Rockies thought the Mets would give him a chance to play in October took a little less he was absolutely right here are the Mets Rockies are watching on TV one one a little chopper slowly hitting near third charged by Turner vacuums that up double clutch still got him by two steps down to second base goes Duda Josh Addison Reed has started to loosen up in the Mets bullpen Ruben Tejada is coming up now and then Jacob degrom and we'll see whether or not unless Tejada hits into a double play here Terry Collins is serious about hitting Fred degrom here in the seventh inning be an interesting choice for Terry Collins your choices matter to drive responsibly reminder from the New York City Department of Transportation and the vision zero initiative so Tejada who again has always hit Kershaw pretty well by and large he's gonna have the opportunity now tonight he hasn't hit him at all is over to a couple of strikeouts will not be something of Daniel Murphy ended up being the guy that carried it tonight and everybody seems to be pointing him off the team for next year but it's his home run the only run of the game right now pitch on the way Ahana takes under the hands for a strike nothing in one one of the longest tenured Mets he goes back to Shea Stadium and you know had Juan Uribe not injured that chest muscle Murphy most likely would not have been in there's Game one lineup would have been Uribe probably at second base one-nothing score runner at second one out now the pitch swinging a foul back nothing in two viewed by a paid crowd of fifty four thousand four hundred and twenty eight at Dodger Stadium Murphy's last game here by the way at Dodger Stadium he was on base five times in an eight to nothing Mets win Murphy's been around long enough as a meta now to have played almost as many games at second as Alfonzo did as Ken Boswell did but yeah it could be in the twilight of his Smith's career Kershaw spinning and faking a throw back towards second due to when diving and even though no one was covering Mets baseball brought to you by Remax Remax agents trained to help you find the perfect fit wherever you go wherever you're heading go to remax.com find an agent for all the things that move you each office independently owned and operated one nothing New York Mets in the top of the seventh inning oh and two to Tejada Duda extends the lead from second the pitcher curve is fouled back to the net I fought it off anyway and that's something that Tejada does fairly well he gets behind in the count sometimes that's when the at-bat just begins when he's oh to Kershaw stalking on that mound a little bit he's just shy of a hundred pitches now and again the ghosts that he deals with he has simply remarkable regular seasons can't seem to win in October Pedro Baez getting loose in the Dodger pen now due to the lead from second one out the pitch taken just outside one and two 54-thousand umpires say alan porter doesn't know what he's doing yeah but but again Ellis was set up off the plane and Kershaw I hit the target that's what fools a lot of people Porter in that old fashion scissors stance back behind the plate not a lot of umpires have that anymore he sets up kind of on the inside corner does the umpire to this right-hand batter one to delivery now a curve low smothered by Ellis two and two by the what I just saw a replay of that Oh 2 pitch and even as Ellis pounced off the plate away well looked like it might have clipped the outside corner Kershaw starting to sweat a little bit the native Texan is used to heat but again his pitch count is up over a hundred now he's fighting with Tejada from June 1st on Kershaw CRA has been 1.4 he's been dazzling tonight but he's losing high stretch and now the 2 2 pitch taken and it's low full count and it's exactly what you're talking about Howie the ability of Tejada just kind of sort through the junk mail hang around and keeping it bad going for now degrom on deck if Tejada walks it's two on one out and a big decision to be made by Terry Collins huge decision Tejada waggling that bat Kershaw brings a payoff swing and a bouncing ball foul over the third-base coaches head Tim Tuffle just for fun I don't know about you if I had to make the decision if the hata were to walk I let the Grom hit but the runners over they've got the bottom of the order coming up do the Dodgers and you know give give either Granderson or if they walk him right a chance at a two-out hit which could drive him to ya Granderson has belted the ball three times tonight seems to be on his game so if you just keep the inning a hot with a bunt the grounds too athletic to bunt into a double play you figure we'll see how it goes 3 & 2 with the Mets ahead one nothing top of the seventh Kershaw brings it it's high ball four to Hana doing his thing a nine pitch at-bat and he's on and degrom is heading to the plate not before I look back into the dugout once or twice that's huge for Tejada it again you know you talk about what he brings and it shows up late this year right because Flores was supposed to be the man the everyday shortstop but Tejada kind of now cast in this role Rafi Santana in 86 if you will you know all this great a beef around him in the lineup always what we got to do is get on base every so often and catch the ball at shortstop and he's doing that here Baez the righty in the bullpen and a Kershaw takes his time is to Gromov settles in the box two on one out and the Dodgers thinking that they're gonna have to defend a bunt here they're a very good fielding team they've made the fewest errors in the major leagues lefty - left-handed swinger with two on one out - pitch taken and it's low one and out not that Jacob degrom wasn't in the spotlight at all this year America wasn't familiar with him that ending that he pitched in the all-star game got him noticed but he is really getting noticed late night tonight not for his bat quite yet but for that right arm one owe delivery bunts it up the third-base line it will sit down picked up by Turner Ari's the throw in time to get in the sack bunt pushes runners to second and third Jacob degrom just nudged it up the third-base line and Turner tikkun Gonzales covering now a little decision in here about how they pitch to Curtis Granderson conventional wisdom would be well he's just a lefty who doesn't hit lefties I'm Clayton Kershaw I'll just go get him but tonight Granderson his line to the warning track and right he is singled to left he is singled to center so he's hit the ball everywhere in the outfield tonight first base is open David Wright on deck and a right-hander in the bullpen and we mentioned Granderson last time he was in the postseason did not have a great time of it he was 3 for 30 but he's two for three tonight and the base data here could break this thing open one nothing Mets top of the seventh shift is on the pitch fouled straight back it's nothing and one for you talk about my big stuff against your big swing 95 mile an hour heat and Granderson just missed it very steady this year Granderson that was not the case a year ago was a very streaky hitter in his first year as a man Kershaw brings hyo-won curve bounced it up there and blocked beautifully by AJ Ellis keeps it right in front of him keeps the runners at second and third Kershaw so desperate to change his narrative the guy that sparkles April through September and gets sand cone all over him in October trying to keep his team in it one-nothing seventh inning white looms on deck and then Cespedes here's a 1-1 plate swing in the message 1 & 2 well obviously Granderson sitting on something else besides the fastball there very late swing this is probably it for Kershaw you got the two ladies on deck a righty in the pan and the crowd wants to see an even dozen four strikeouts here tonight if Kershaw get strike three on Granderson they'll have it bye stretch and the Big Texan is ready the one to its high two balls two strikes two walks in the inning dude is now at third to hot is now at second the degrom sac bunt to get them down in a scoring position Kershaw holds the ball behind his back Ellis setting up shop now towards the inside corner on Granderson here's the 2 2 pitch curve it's low three balls two strikes it couldn't be a three walk in and credit Clayton Kershaw has lost only 40 batters all year is struck out more than 300 when he's missed with his fastball he's missed up and he's buried a couple of breaking balls really with a 10th those are swing and miss pitches but Granderson Mel Ben Ellis pounds that catcher's mitt says let's go Kershaw will oblige on 3 & 2 with runners at 2nd and 3rd the pitch is blooped foul back this way up and out of play so the pitch count keeps climbing and Baez is ready out there the Daniel Murphy home run as he steered a 2o fast ball into the right-field bullpen back in the fourth that's it that's the only one of the game right now hundred and twelve pitches for Kershaw three and two and the pitch taken little bit outside ball four they're loaded up Kershaw last year how he had a stretch of 24 games in a row where he never had the bases loaded and now they are loaded with David White coming up and Kershaw kicking at the dirt on the mound no move yet from Don Mattingly but now here he comes up those steps and it'll be David Wright to face a right-hander where the Mets trying to put it away here in the seventh a can Kershaw pitched a pretty amazing game with 11 strikeouts but right now he is down one to nothing and Mattingly wants that baseball Kershaw doesn't want to give it up but he will this fall to the bullpen brought to you by Lexus of Massapequa and Lexus of Rockville Center one-nothing Nestle invites you to drive south for savings right hander Pedro báez or through his changeup a lot more down the stretch and had pretty good results his best work really has been lately 3.35 er8 is here he has given up four home runs and David Wright with a chance now to make it a little bit more than one to nothing Mets in the top of the seventh inning bases are full of Mets because of walks David is over 2 with a walk tonight here's the pitch taken under the hands ball one Cespedes would be next and David Wright remember grab the microphone closing day at Citi Field and said let's go beat LA has a chance to make that happen now trying to fluff up a one-nothing advantage in the top of the seventh inning outfield a bit to left 1o pitch taken and it's inside two balls no strikes the Mets have already walked three times in the inning how about Granderson getting on base three times against the toughest lefty in the game tonight that's what chased Kershaw out of here in the seventh now Baez can be a little wild and sure enough here he is to uh no the Mets have already homered on a 200 count tonight that was Murphy for the only run in the game so far white add that 12 pitch at bat in the first inning through the walk the kick in the two Oh swinging it sliced down the right-field line but curling away fouled is a little late on the fastball at 99 by the way 2 & 1 the count to David the long road back from the back issue to seer pales he says to the long road back from playoff oblivion the captain was 23 years old last time the Mets were here on the postseason he was a private not a captain then and the old saw about not knowing what you got till it's gone has done up in neon it for David Wright trying to bask in the outcome of this at-bat light here if he can 2 & 1 the count bases-loaded two out and the pitch fired outside three balls one strike David Wright then the old catbird seat his red barber used to say Cespedes on deck I'm sure Baez n want any part of that so David Wright configure alright I'm getting the fastball here Kenny hit a 99 mile an hour fastball keep it straight Duda at third walks away the lead to hodda at second Granderson at first one nothing Mets in the top of the seventh Game one in the best of five fires a high set now Roxon brings it three one swing and a foul back to the net three and two there was 98 miles an hour and I'll buy ins with a new baseball goes to the back of the mound shrugs his shoulders a little bit plays with his belt buckle wiped some sweat from his right hand onto his pants leg White's ready to go one-nothing myths in the top of the seventh runners will get going since it is three and two a two out the set the kick the pitch swinging a shot towards Center base hit David Wright two runs are going to score Granderson laces to third he's their Mets three and the Dodgers nothing David Wright pounds a fast ball up the middle and the New York Mets have three runs in and the game started by Clayton Kershaw and finally a hit here in the seventh inning after three walks but Baez fell behind then after running the count fall he came in with that fastball and Damon was right on it and so David Wright who had so many big hits the year the Mets last appeared of the postseason gets a huge one in the first game of this year's now it's funny including postseason Howie this is game number five five five all-time between the Mets and Dodgers so who else but number five will get the big hit and when he got to first base he made a fist with his right hand and it's like he was trying to knock out Rocky Balboa just piercing this very heavy air with that right fist in celebration first and third at first Cespedes three to nothing mitts and here's the pitch taken on the outside corner strike one and Clayton Kershaw just watching almost in a daze in that dugout all these runs are against his ledger as is Granderson at third those postseason demons are hungry late and kershaw I just can't get away from him David right on a 3-2 count and now let's see what Cespedes can do the pitch swing and a Miss that was off-speed oops - Owen - now for Cespedes burst onto the scene as a met cooled off a little bit since then as in a homered since September the 14th right now the battle of the numbers 52 Baez on the mound Cespedes at the plate two runs in the top of the seventh inning and you know what Tejada deserves a lot of credit how he that walk that he worked kept the inning hot shift is on for Cespedes three infielders between third and second runner goes from first Oh - waved at and missed Baez got him and Cespedes is over port but the captain delivers in the seventh inning number 7 batter and takes on the outside corner strike one so Jacob degrom steals a little thunder here from Clayton Kershaw tonight oh one pitch taken riding outside one and one [Applause] you step into the batter's box against Kershaw it's basically stepping into the Octagon and the Mets never did flinch tonight 1-1 pitch taken fast balls inside 2 & 1 the Dodgers to their credit certainly haven't been shy taking their Rip's against degrom degrom has simply been better defensive change to tell you about - the 2 1 pitch outside 3 & 1 the Mets get kadai out of the game it's now Cespedes and left at Juan lagares in center [Applause] gratifying night for degrom for sure but boy you can't even imagine how gratifying this night must be for David right 3-1 pitch that's the strike at the belt three and two all that hard work for David to come back from the back issue missed a hundred and thirty games and there were so many mountain of moments of doubt when he thought maybe I'm not gonna play this year or other years three two is tagged in a right-center that ball jumping a little bit towards a warning track levar estranging you over he makes the catch with his heels on the track and Granderson feeling off in front of them you've got three outfielders right now for the Mets judge who would fancy themselves as natural center fielders all three now including Granderson 2 now Cespedes and left but those corner outfielders have to be able to yield to that center fielder or the Mets thankfully Granderson was able to let lagares get to that ball then gave him a pat on the back Jacques Peterson comes up now he had an at-bat I'm sure he'd love to have a do-over on fourth inning first and third or sees me first and second one out he went after the first pitch and popped to left shift is on for Peterson kind of away the the Dodgers shift on Duda pitch is very high it's one a no you can see to go I'm starting to lose a little bit on that fastball now it's quote/unquote only 95 it has been 98 but again a very warm night here in LA 1o pitch cuts over the outside corner one and one it's a hundred and eight pictures by the way for degrom it looks like the Mets will give him every opportunity to work through seven innings particularly with Reed throwing in the bullpen of the Mets do not like ideally Reed coming in with men on base he's way more effective to getting a clean inning longtime met tormentor Chase Utley has moved on deck he would pinch-hit in the pitchers spot one one from degrom bunt is shown and the pitch taken a high two and one that was just I think to get too hot in a little bit he's that lone man between a second and third it was playing very far back nice on an easier choice than ever the most exciting fuel-efficient lineup get great offers across their full line shopper local Nissan store choose Nissan calm pitch is swung on and missed by Pederson it's 2 & 2 that fastball up a tick to 96 read and Clippard in the bullpen now Dodgers get a right-hander loosening now to lock on the rubber here's a 2 2 pitch taken then it's high full count Mets they had 3 nothing Murphy and right how about that guys that are net born and met bread we talk about all the the newcomers that made such a big contribution this year Jacob degrom Daniel Murphy David Wright entire infield tonight when you factor Tejada in as well and Lucas due to all homegrown the motion on the mound the 3 to swing on and fouled back to the net all three of the Mets top starters went in the same 2010 draft Matt Harvey was a fourth pitcher taken over all that year syndergaard the 12th overall that year not by the Mets but 12th overall degrom was the hundred and thirty ninth pitcher taken in that draft they are shutting out the Dodgers tonight in Game one 3-2 pitch swinging a towering pop up back there's way into the crowd at the Guam getting close to a season a high for a pitch count but I'm sure he's savoring every sweaty moment tonight no runs on five hits he's already in that territory though where they're gonna have to bang some heads to decide if they want to bring him back on three days rest in that situation arises in a potential game for Mets ahead by three three two pitched a little Q shot foul up at third base line forceps in the guard pitches the way the grande did tonight if the Mets can go home up to oh no Matt Harvey has a chance to make it a moot point I think one of the real stories how he has how the lefties we're able to hit against Kershaw tonight a lot of people were shaking their heads going man it's just such a tough matchup he got Granderson and Murphy and due to how are they going to be able to get on they all got on three two waving a Miss he got him changed up on him and that is strikeout number 12 for Jacob degrom one more he will tie Tom Seaver for the all-time franchise record most strikeouts in a postseason game kid he's not really a kid anymore he's closer to 30 than 20 now but you talked about not withering in the spotlight of how he he gets out there in the all-star game strikes out the side on 10 pitches got the home opener and he breezed he's been fantastic tonight and now it will be Chase Utley to stand in there against him the former Philly and the pitch fights off the outside corner the fastball at 96 nothing in one that was pitched number 117 tying the most he's thrown in a game this year on August 1st against Washington start before that it was degrom against these Dodgers and he pitched a two-hitter his pitch is low one in one that was two hits in seven and 2/3 innings tonight he's trying to make it five hits in seven innings Metzler ahead three nothing one in the fourth and two in the seventh the longest-tenured Mets with the runs batted in here's the one one late swing and a foul by Utley one and two so here's a chance for degrom to make it a baker's dozen of Dodgers already 12 strikeouts in the books three in the first three in the second is to plant his flag in the Dodger sod tonight can he get Utley off the bench he's a head one and two rolls to the motion now brings that pitch so we're gonna pop up foul back this way we'll do it again Carl Crawford waits on deck boy this crowd is muted now huh when they were so noisy when they're trying to coax Kershaw out of that tough spot in the top of the inning bases clear to out-party 12 strikeouts for degrom here's the pitch swing and a Miss make it 13 what a performance he ties an all-time mitt postseason record Jacob degrom stands with Thomas severs the only Mets to have 13 strikeouts in a postseason game that one it was in a game won this one in a game one that's working out beautifully so far as we go to the eighth inning the veteran right-hander 39 year-old Joel Peralta to the Dominican Republic facing Murphy Toledo off left-hand banner the righty perrault the deals and it's low want to know interestingly the two hitters that Peralta has dominated going back to his American League days were batting for the Mets in the 7th inning Granderson and Cespedes those two are combined 1 for 15 against him but Peralta getting Murphy d'Arnaud and Duda here in the 8th the 100 up and that's it for a call strike and it evens the count 1 & 1 Murphy struck out and hit that homer deep into the right-field bullpen and flied to Center Peralta missed about a third of this season on the disabled list with a pair of injuries the shoulder and the neck so he only appeared in 33 games going 3 in 1 with a 4.34 run average and the 1-1 pitch Murphy lines it to Wright coming on Ethier reaches down makes a tumbling catch as he reaches out winds up on his knees but he caught it just before it hit the turf for the out saw the sinking line drive off the bat of Murphy grabbed by Ethier one up one down and Travis d'Arnaud coming up Nissan's an easier choice than ever with their most exciting and fuel-efficient lineup now get great offers across their full line shop at your local Nissan store and choose nissan comm d'Arnaud is grounded to third struck out looking and top to third once again first pitch to him take it outside one ball and no strikes so again assuming that the Grom is done after seven with 13 strikeouts you will leave having tied Tom Seavers record for strikeouts in a Betts postseason game although Sieber lost his low one oh darn Olaf's it in the air to deep left center but it's playable looming over Crawford and he makes the catch in front of the warning track two men away mention that Seaver gave up home runs to Pete Rose and Johnny Bench in that game bench winning Game one that national league championship series of 1973 so Seaver worked eight and a third innings in that game striking out 13 the grom goes seventh to strike out 13 tonight here is lucas duda singled off the foot of Kershaw's first time up then he struck out walked and scored we're talking earlier about the home run not the home run but the ball that due to hit in batting practice first pitch to him fastball outside ball one if it have been during a game a would have been a home run hitting some signage right underneath the pavilion roof but yesterday he hit one clear out of this place there's a big beverage sign it straight away right-field atop the pavilion roof and he hid it beyond that the one Oh breaking ball is low two and nothing remember now Duda who mentioned earlier played collegiately at USC but he wasn't the kind of power hitter in college that he is now he was more of a spray hitter he had a lot of balls the other way when he was at college and interestingly as he's become more of a consistent power hitter in the big leagues even though those home runs come in bunches for him sometimes he gets pull happy the two all out in front of a changeup swings and misses it's 2 & 1 but it's hard to imagine Duda with all of that raw power big bulky kid who could hit him miles and miles being a spring hitter in college yeah at 11 homers in three years it doesn't seem to make any sense at all he gets locked in he hit 11 in a month near in the big leagues he at 9 in a homestand is here 2 1 pitch fastball on the inside corner two balls and two strikes everything else is done in today's Division Series play scoreboard update brought to you by our mercedes-benz tri-state dealers take advantage of exceptional lease and finance offers on select 2015 models visit MP usa.com today guards behind lackey beat the Cubs four to nothing swing and a Miss by Duda strike three side retired so the Mets go in order and in the in the 8th inning it's the Mets 3 the Dodgers nothing you as he was in his first 20 games with a man he struggled over the last dozen to a 7.11 earned run average in the last month of the year the 102 Crawford line in the air to right Granderson and he's there and he makes the catch one away is a changeup a good contact made by Crawford one up one down Howie Kendrick coming up and by the way if there's any uprising by the Dodgers here in this a fitting you can expect to see jeurys Familia hitless game Terry Collins sent yesterday don't be surprised if you see Familia more than once for a 4 or 5 out save Kendrick is one for three singled on a no 2 pitch in the first inning and the righty Clipper deals right down the middle of call strike nothing good want to change up at 80 miles an hour so about Jacob degrom and that experience thing people were worried about now would an inexperienced pitcher like the Grom fair against Kershaw under the national spotlight of the division series on the road the o1 line the left-center that's a base hit for Kendrick and it's going to the wall lagares picks it up on the warning track Kendrick to second and he's in standing with a one-out double it's an answer the question after the ground goes 7 allowing five hits and no runs walking just one banner and that was intentionally and striking out 13 now it's in the hands of the bullpen and with one out Howie Kendrick singles or doubles sharply up the gap in left center that brings up another left-hand hitter Corey Seager with left-hand batting Adrian Gonzales behind him wonder if his 21 year old how he had seen a changeup point like this that he's going to see from Clippard no doubt the outfield is very deep right way off the line at third Clippard sets here's the first pitch to Seager it's a fastball and it's just outside ball one flipper it's body language suggests that he wanted that ball doesn't get it he's not the only one tonight but now Travis d'Arnaud sensing some of that uneasiness and Clippard hustles out to the mound and just slows him down Nats upon the shoulder gets him to reset the crowd is loud now really as they've been all night that's three Dodgers nothing one out last of the eighth Kendrick decent speed at second flipper checksum now the 100 Wong on and missed by Seager a fastball at 93 in the count 1 at 1 so there's 13 miles an hour separation between Clippers changeup and his fastball that's quite an adjustment for a kid like Corey Seager but he's adjusted to everything else in his first month and change of the big leagues he is now no longer the shortstop of the future he's the shortstop of the present time called at home plate Seger grew up in Charlotte North Carolina hendrik looks behind him finds two hana practically at his lower back trying to keep him close Lippert looks that way now the 1-1 pitch popped in the air shallow right Murphy the second baseman backpedaling at the short right-field makes the catch two men away Murph runs the ball back in calls time so all Kendrick can do is stay on second base two men away before Adrian Gonzalez hits we'll pause for station identification on the wor Mets Radio Network Mets baseball on 710 wor New York Howie Rose Josh Lewin with you at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles Game one of the division series the Mets three the Dodgers nothing the now it's Gonzales who struck out all three times against Jacob degrom going up against Tyler Clippard now the left-hand batter the outfield deep and straight away here's the first pitch take it high and outside one ball and no strikes Adrian just 1 for 8 with a couple of strikeouts against Clippard the right-hander Justin Turner on deck it's the right-hand hitter Kendrick who has the hit in the inning a one-out double Crawford and Seager left-hand hitters have both get it in the air four outs one and oh the count to Gonzales flipper deals swinging a lighter down the left-field line that is a fair ball base hit picked up by Cespedes Kendrick comes home to score the goes to second stopping at first with an RBI signal as Adrian Gonzales the Dodgers are on the board the Mets lead is three to one and now Justin Turner will bat representing the tying run at the plate but it won't be against Clippard Terry Collins is on his way out to the home plate up Alan Porter he'll make a double switch so it's the Mets 3 the Dodgers 1 tying run at the plate with a runner at first two out here in the bottom of the eighth inning and this pitching change is sponsored by the New York Lottery make the most of the numbers in front of you every day play win 4 and numbers from the New York Lottery as the double switch brings jeurys Familia into the game for the Mets leading 3 to 1 Gonzales at first two out of the bottom of the eighth inning with Justin Turner coming up Daniel Murphy goes from second base to first base Kelly Johnson comes into the game to play second base so Lucas Duda is out of the game that means that Johnson will bat third when we go to the top of the ninth inning but it's Familia to Turner and a big double against him at Citi Field back in July in a game the Mets eventually won first pitch slider fouled back to the screen nothing at one Familia in a hot spot but don't you sweat it get cozy would luxaire for year-round savings on heating and cooling Familia finished third in the league in saves with 43 tying Armando Benitez his club record set 14 years ago three two one New York the outfield deep Murphy playing in front of Gonzales the pitch to Turner a fastball low one ball and one strike a 97 mile an hour fastball so that meant infield is now Murphy at first Johnson at second Tejada the shortstop that he's angled into the hole David Wright the third baseman is guarding the line and behind the bag then again the outfield deep and straight away and Turner's got pop hit 16 home runs this year Familia sense of the letters here's the one one to Turner swing an aligner to first cut by Murphy side retired a soft line drive it was a 98 mile an hour fastball and the Dodgers are done in the a one run on two hits they do that against Tyler Clippard no errors one left in the end of eight innings it's the Mets 3 the Dodgers one that sent Dee Gordon to Miami and he wound up winning the batting title Andrew Haney we mentioned him earlier was one of the players acquired by the Dodgers from the Marlins they flipped him to the angels in the Howie Kendrick deal well Hatcher will face the bottom third of the Mets order lagares Tejada and Johnson the first and third of whom did not start this game first time up for lagares and the first pitch is low and goes off the glove of the catcher Ellis and all the way to the backstop Juan had 261 this season with the Mets we got Turner the third baseman even with a bang [Applause] now the 1o pitch breaking ball pulled on the ground to short backhand into the hole by Seager long throw on one hop is picked nicely by Gonzalez for the out Adrian Gonzales a terrific defenseman third a defensive first baseman and he just picked up his shortstop young mr. Seager that's the first ball that fighers had to handle all night because everybody's been striking out or getting base hits Corey Seager showing an arm that hasn't been used in this game and getting bailed out by his first baseman so here's Tejada who's old for two of the walk but that walk was huge because he was down in the count 1 2 against Kershaw in that seventh inning my Kershaw eventually walked three loaded the bases that David Wright drove in to king-sized runs with a single first pitch to Ruben foul back over the screen nothing at one so not sure the fourth pitcher that the Dodgers have used was at 49 games this year a three and five record and a three point six nine earned run average [Applause] just a Turner right at the third-base bag the old one the hata fouls it off the shin guards of the catcher AJ Ellis and the count nothing and two Turner very active ordering Seager kinda hither and yon right now and also the outfielders nobody knows just or nobody knows Ruben Tejada standin sees you could argue Howie on that Dodgers side more than Turner does because those guys played together right next to each other in fact for dozens and dozens of games Turner a very useful utility player for the Mets who never really had an opportunity to play every day and I don't think the Dodgers envisioned him playing every day when they brought him here last year either he's become the full-time third baseman is that a good year here's the o2 to Tejada fastball fouled down the right-field line out of play now if you want to look ahead to the bottom of the ninth the Dodgers will be scheduled to send up Andre Ethier AJ Ellis and joc pederson and remember jeurys Familia is already in the game that's why you've got Kelly Johnson on deck having come in as part of the double switch and one very interesting name is a pinch hitting possibility that's Jimmy Rollins to now the pitch to Tejada swung on and missed strike three Hatcher gets up with a 97 mile an hour fastball I mean what's new this is the third picture out of the Dodgers both men tonight he's throwing 97 don't they all nowadays that's one of the biggest changes in baseball there the velocity that you see coming out of bullpens and it's you know like just like out of a PEZ dispenser one right after another it's not just one guy who throws 97 it's everybody that's a big reason why strikeouts are up so dramatically over the last few years around baseball 14 Mets have punched out in this game Kelly Johnson left-hand batter takes a breaking ball in the dirt ball one Kelly very useful to the Mets 49 games with any hit to 50 with five homers and 13 RBIs at 265 average overall 14 homers and he drove in 47 runs he's a postseason veteran three different teams the one Oh pulled on the ground the first Gonzales has it he'll run to the bag in time to beat Johnson side retired let's go in order middle of the ninth inning it's the Mets 3 the Dodgers 1 on the wor Mets Radio Network driven by your trihonda dealers you Noba New York's boldest Andre Ethier left-hand better first up against familia a fear struck out twice and pump too short jeurys Familia one of the this year pitch hitters in all of baseball this year 76 appearances during the regular season that was fifth most in the National League is proud now galvanizing try to put a little heat on familia meantime there's a beach ball or something that looks like a beach ball from here that's Kent right up at the base of the centerfield wall and center fielder Juan lagares shows no interest whatsoever and jogging about 40 feet to pick it up I think he only just now recognized it so instead one of the Dodger ball boys sprinted all the way down the left-field line into the corner and then around the warning track to centerfield to pick up what is a camp not a beach ball but a loose camp now at the Dodger captain and there is no hat-trick yet tonight for these guys got only one run here is Andre Ethier David Wright even with a baguette they're just about at the edge of the infield grass familias first pitch fastball zips right in for a called strike at 96 miles an hour it's nothing in one he fear Ellis Petersen due up for Familia one assignment he won't have to worry about his Chase Utley small sample that he's handled of well they owe one swung on and missed there's that split and the count on two in a small sample ended up they only his face Familia six times but with three hits none of the other Dodgers have much of a dossier at all against jeurys Familia who is quickly ahead nothing into on Andre Ethier quick pitch fastball high wanted to that splitter you mentioned how he he throws that at 93 there isn't another pitcher in the majors that throws a splitter at 93 90 yeah a couple of them but nobody's doing 93 pretty good gap in right-center for Ethier lobelia holds the set down the 1 2 pitch swing and he just gets a piece foul and off a home plate umpire Alan Porter again that's good I believe at 94 minutes got such downward a heart bite hip hat scouts say stuff like well now it's unfair because between the sinker and the slider which were world-class in and of themselves well that was one thing if not to collectively but now the split puts them into an almost unique category is very few closers feature three pitches of that quality one and two Familia ready here's the pitch to Ethier swing in a bouncing ball to first charge by Murphy he's got it runs to the bag one man away here in the ninth inning and remember Howie the Dodgers have not seen this splitter up close because the medicine Dodgers haven't played since July to 25th it was the beginning of August where that it really took form for familias those a whole new wrinkle for them that they're seeing live and now Jimmy Rollins the former filling partner of Chase Utley's in the middle infield will be the pinch-hitter for AJ Ellis member olives is a switch hitter so Don Mattingly getting another left-handed bat in there as rollins hits for Ellis Jimmy Rollins this year hit just 224 lost that starting shortstop job first pitch on the way a fastball buzzes in for a call strike at 93 it's nothing at one Noah syndergaard tomorrow against Zack Greinke this one still to be decided three to one New York quick pitch on oh one fouled back to the screen a fastball at 98 and it's nothing into two Jimmy Rollins you got to keep him off base because the man on deck how he is joc Pederson and he can really hit him a long way you don't want to give him the chance to tie it up by just walking in a way well you know it's the postseason when every player in both dugouts is draped along the railing that's how it is on both sides of the field lobelia sets holds the set the o2 to Rollins fastball pulled on the ground wide of first diving stop by Murphy gets up flips the Familia Allen at first two men away beautiful play by Daniel Murphy and by jeurys Familia to get off the mound in a hurry and so the diving stop by Murphy Familia helping out on the back end two up two down Dodgers down to their last out it'll be left hand hitting joc Pederson coming up all the Murph moments have been good at Murph moments tonight the defense which sometimes is not number one on the playlist for Daniel has been very good tonight Murphy diving to his right to backhand that ball but Rollins still gets down the line pretty well so it was incumbent upon Familia to get to the bag even faster and he did remember Murphy played most of this game at second base for his first postseason game has been especially memorable and now it's down to Peterson who has intentionally walked in the second flied to left and struck out 3 to 1 Mets two out nobody on Familia sets the infield over shifted first pitch fastball in for a call streak gets nothing at 198 mile an hour fastball on deck is a switch hitting catcher Yasmani Grandal who with that poor pitcher if it gets that far Familia trying to end it right here right now oh and one the Peterson the outfield deep familias pitch inside one ball and one strike a split at 93 you've got ligarius the centerfielder shaded a couple of steps the other way Peterson not only has great power he's got a pretty good eye even though he strikes out a ton he also walked fifth most in the league so despite a 210 average his on-base percentage was very respectable at 346 1 & 1 the count Familia sets at the letters here's the pitch little chopper foul off his leg at home plate now Familia is a strike away with a count 1 & 2 [Applause] Familia who generally stays right on that rudder has to move up a little to get a new baseball after the foul and just takes one contemplative moment takes a deep breath and now goes back to his office leaning towards the first base side of the pitching rubber resting the glove against his chest now brings the hands together the 1 2 pitch inside 2 & 2 a fastball and he dialed that up 299 the hardest pitch is thrown lots of Met fans here they're on their feet trying to make some noise Familia I'm sure can't even hear him staring in the d'Arnaud 2 & 2 to joc pederson Familia sets and time called at home play and even with that time call Familia won't even break from the rubber his concentration is so acute all he does is wipe a little sweat off his forehead and bring the hands together quick pitch to two just outside he barely missed at 99 in the countess Bowl with a guy on deck Randall he's got power he hit 16 home runs this year so Peterson trying to fight his way aboard three infielders on the right side three-two-one mitts two out nobody on bottom of the ninth it'll be a payoff pitch to Peterson Familia ready here it comes swinging a chopper right side Familia off the mound has it Sprint's to the bag put at the books the New York Mets have beat late Kershaw in the opener of the division series as first show the three times I of Award winner is out pitched by Jacob degrom who pitched seven brilliant shutout innings striking out 13 and the Mint's who wanted a steal one here in LA have done just that they'll try to steal another one tomorrow with Noah syndergaard who will face Zack Greinke in the ninth inning for the Dodgers nothing across the final score in Game one the New York Mets 3 and the Los Angeles Dodgers 1 back to talk about it in a moment on the wor mix Radio Network the ribbon by or try
