today from Spartan Stadium in East Lansing Michigan the eighth ranked Michigan State Spartans and the sellout crowd all fired up for the 107th meeting then this great in-state rivalry has sparked e plays host to the Michigan Wolverines [Applause] Chris Spielman will be joined down to the field a moment by Todd McShea delighted and happier with us a very important game for Michigan State there's six and one overall undefeated in Big Ten play so they ever eye on back-to-back Big Ten championships and staying in the race for the college football playoff they need a win today to do that Chris usually when we're here we're talking about the great Spartan defense but Mark Dantonio says this year the offense is the best he's half he's right when you look at it statistically 47 points the game first in the Big Ten second total yards in offense behind Ohio State but what makes them so good on offense is the number of formations and number of personnel groupies that they run at a defense very hard to prepare for in the biggest difference this year is the spread element it's been added to this offense coming in this game there's a conscious effort by the Michigan State coaching staff the gate Connor cook involved in the running game another worry for Greg Madison and his defense today and with more on the Spartan quarterback here's Todd cooked is a very talented pocket passer when you watch him he's got the prototypical size he's got a smooth stroke and he has good touch but if he's gonna take his game to the next level he's got to become more consistent with his decision-making and also with his footwork they're gonna see here he's very patient making his read keeps that safety at bay and then you watch the transfer of weight from back to front drops the ball in perfectly but now we've got to get more consistency here you're gonna see he's got trips to the left here and he's the entire time he does not see the linebacker doesn't see the safety as you can see he thinks Samantha man covers great but the interception because of the linebacker underneath that we spoke to Conner just the other day and he said I recognize the footwork issues on tape this week and I fixed them and I also know that there's a huge emphasis on better decision making we're gonna see today if he can put that game all together and Todd while these are some of the best days in the history of the Michigan State football program down the road in Ann Arbor a little over an hour away very tough times they're three and four Brady Hoke the coach is on the hot seat probably needs to win not only this game but several others the rest of the way if they're going to pull off the upset today what do they have to do well on defense they gotta somehow contain Tony Lippett number 14 a wide receiver has 14 catches this year over 20 yards so you got to watch deep ball then when you have the ball they have to generate something on the ground they're not gonna pound it in there they're not that good doing that so screen bubbles the Funches that's an outside run and also to me I would get Norfleet involved on the jet sweeps that's how they can generate some yards on the ground and also maybe Devin Gardner scrambling around a little bit this is usually an emotional and physical game the rushing yardage has been the key throughout the years the team that has the most rushing yards has won in this rivalry in 41 of the last 44 games lately the Spartans have dominated the Wolverines on the ground 107th leading all time in a great rivalry that dates back to 1898 Michigan has had the upper hand in the series but lately it's been dominated by the Spartans they won five last six including a dismantling of the Wolverines here it's part stadium a year ago twenty nine to six with Michigan have a program worse - 48 yards rushing sunny Pleasant but breezy the wind could be a factor Michigan won the toss and deferred so Michigan State will receive the opening kickoff as while kicks off for the it sails out of the back of the end zone temperature in the low 60s this Connor cook in the Michigan State offense take the field he's from Hinckley Ohio in Northeast Ohio 82 - as the starter hasn't lost against a Big Ten opponent 12 and second in touchdown passes is the big ten behind only JT Barrett of Ohio State who has thrown 21 of the tasks for Connor Cook dead his mates today seems hard to believe in a rivalry game against the program Lake Michigan is one of the tasses not to look ahead to those two weeks for the big ten showed up the first play from scrimmage he was pressured by one of the best defensive ends in the country Frank Clark the senior from Cleveland and the strength of this Michigan Wolverine team is its defense outstanding against the run where they lacking a little bit is probably in a secondary so I look for Michigan State to attack down the field early to test that's secondary Michigan defense fourth in the country against the run they give up only 93 yards per game on the ground as we mentioned that's been the important stat in this rivalry throughout the years hook with time my Tony Lippett the leading receiver in the Big Ten Grady hope says the best receiver in the Big Ten again attack them down the field where they struggled and that's a cover to Shawn the corner has to sink back under that to buy time for his safety and it goes to the Old Snake read the corner throw the corner he's up you throw deep if he's back you throw a short that was a good read in a good decision by Connor cook another reception of more than 20 yards for Lippitt gain of 24 I'm just shy of midfield Michigan blitz Langford picked up a yard for Frank Clark got him on the ground and already tempers flaring which is no surprise in this rivalry game for the Paul Bunyan trophy they get after that I've done a number of these games over the years the one thing I walk away with every single time is how physical both teams play Langford came off the field they spread the field with wide receivers and took those out of the gun just a 3-man rise over the head of Tony Lippett [Applause] well decision making is something named he has to improve on and he improved on her right here that's just a Miss his footwork looked okay Todd yeah he was a little frustrated with himself may not have followed through the way he wanted to but look good from down here in the field one thing he didn't do was he didn't plan his back foot he said his back foot he was on his toe and that's something that was addressed by the coaches this week Wolverines showing blitz they rushed five well picked up [Applause] wasn't pretty but it got there for a 28-yard game well there's a reason why kind of cooks half of the year he is because he's only been sacked four times so it all starts with protection and if you can get the matchup where you want Drummond on Jake riding the middle linebacker down the middle of the field you'll take it all day and they'll look to exploit that unless they start carrying those receivers mumphrey excuse me thank you [Applause] [Music] fighting for every yard you gun to the 18 a gain of three more Lankford senior from Wayne Michigan he's working on a string of ten straight games and big 10th regular season play with a hundred yards rushing or more now this weather for late October in mid-michigan not a cloud in the sky was a cloudy morning but the skies brighten late morning 66 degrees now with that gusty wind out of the West at 17 [Applause] first told you the coach cook in the run game and now still a no hill and cook pushing and shoving after the whistle and flags thrown sports for my conduct defense before runnin a check on the penalty yardage was just a little read option right here the McGarrett Kings on the fake it's the Michigan defense running and you know why he was called because cook ran over hill and a safety doesn't like to be run over by a quarterback then you start the pushing and shoving and you see it right there maybe it should have gone cook's wolfing in his face and you're not supposed to do that either so so always the second guy you can't do that that's what Brady Hope saying regardless of how it started but it certainly looked like Cooke initiated that action by getting in the face of Delano Hill the sophomore from Detroit is now on the sidelines [Applause] recive opening drive for Michigan State we're averaging 47 points per game the big reason why their success at this end of the field in the redzone [Applause] touchdown Michigan State [Applause] [Music] seventy-five yards in a place take just over three minutes to do it Langford banged it in from two yards out Michael Geiger on to kick the extra point [Applause] and the kick is good Jeremy Langford his a crushing touched out of the season in a great start for the heavily favored Spartans here at East Lansing touchdown on their opening drive for the 6th time in 8 games another side of a good team fast starters were ready to go from the very beginning they have dominated in the first quarter this year now 105 to 21 [Applause] so a break for Michigan as Cronin's keg went out near the two yard line here come the Wolverines led by Devin Gardner graduates two from Detroit at a very rough day last year against the Spartans was sacked seven times and pummeled all day long took 17 hits it hasn't had a productive year six touchdown passes three rushing touchdowns but he's thrown eight interceptions and they haven't scored a touchdown against Michigan State since 2011 nothing but field goals the last two years last year two field goes into 29 to 6 loss two years ago in Ann Arbor they won 12 to 10 the Wolverines victorious with four field goals in that game rider out throwing low throw the bottle on the far sideline by Devin Funchess that's good for an 11-yard gain in a first down with trae Waynes and coverage Wayans that's interested because he's using the boundary corner meaning he's on the shorter side of the field they moved him to the field corner there to match up and they're doing it again against Funches number one the 6'5 is 230 Wayne's is their best corner he's also their biggest corner Wayne's is 6 1 182 Funches 6 5 2 xxx former tight and here's Dennis Norfleet Darion Harris let the Wolverines quickly across midfield taking advantage of the excellent starting field position smart play calling by duck nussmeier Norfleet is probably their most explosive guy that they have on their offense as far as the shake and bake get him involved early to get him into some type of rhythm then once you get that established that's when you come back the Davion smith first year for nussmeier that michigan after two at alabama was part of a national championship team there they said a lot of offensive records during his tenure [Applause] [Music] [Applause] her mom and her aunt Davis one of those cartons came up with it to see it it's more the same for Michigan the worst team in the country in turnover margin now - 14 and just a sloppy giveaway this has become michigan's mo critical errors at critical times you can a great stand by your defense you get a break on the special teams outstanding field position and it's a lack of execution and you can put the blame on everybody but the quarterback has to take care of the football lawrence thomas number eight they've come up with it at the bottom of the pile but that's on Devin Gardner he's been looking around long enough he has to protect the football priority number one see over the last two seasons Gardner himself turned over 27 times [Applause] and away now -14 there 125 teams in the FBS level college football there number 125 our Michigan State is plus 12 now only George is better at plus 13 Washington also plus 12 and Grady hope knows that he said during the week doesn't matter what level of football you are playing turnover margin is a key to winning and losing it's a big reason that his team is losing in a Michigan territory tackled by Jake Ryan at the 46 it's a 10 yard completion any time the corners that far off Sean both teams have this an automatic build on the quick bubble screen because it's automatic five yards so it has to be a priest a free between kings and cook they're on the same page the result is positive yards because of the discipline and understanding and decision-making of both positions miss cribbage he waited for the hole to emerge and picked up a tackled by Joe Bolden the thing about Langford is he's one of those guys that you love because he always is falling forward he always breaks tackles and he gets every ounce of energy out of that body in every inch that he can get he's always fighting and he added the stiff arm into his game this year earlier in the year production has picked up [Applause] bangs around that have more than enough by about five yards to pick up the first down Jared Wilson and Elena will a couple of safeties combined on the stop of seven John watch 74 conflict now this is what I call finishing the block you're gonna put people on their back you're chopping your feet then you finish the play and you're April the pancake somebody like that in a rivalry you're starting to get into the heads of the Wolverines beautiful block by Conklin sophomore from Plainwell Michigan he was a walk-on here couldn't get a scholarship offer anywhere and the coaches talk they used the word dominant to describe his pale left tackles the best offensive lineman that the way or Jeremy Langford Ramon Taylor made the tackle a lot of these Michigan State Spartans were not recruited by Michigan that adds to the emotion of this rivalry for them Langford said he didn't get a lot of attention from Michigan and what little attention they gave him was as a defensive player they want him to be a safety he wanted to play offense but Michigan did not offer him a scholarship was straight to the Michigan defense that front seven [Applause] so Bouldin you know Chris we've seen on tape all year long this Michigan defense is battling they're playing hard they're giving everything they have and they've done a good job you can't hold up week in week out for four quarters when your offense continues to put you in bad spots and it goes to you subconsciously even Todd in a locker room everybody's going to start taking sides and somebody has to say come on offense you gotta do your job give us a chance Jeff sweep action again looked at decision he swung down by Fred Clark back at the 10-yard line well I love the vision and discipline of Clark right here he's a football player and he could be a stand up linebacker or a defensive end in the NFL but watch this he's not gonna fall for the fake being able to adjust and have the lateral movement to plan off that foot and come in and make a good open field tackle O'Connor cook I love the kid I think he's a great football player out of glee club Oh high school effort two minutes to go first Porter [Applause] from 210 [Applause] back at the 19-yard line Chris Worley part of that deep defensive line they rotate in eight or nine players into those front four spots and wordly now is two and a half sacks for the year boy I love the defense right there you want to jam at the line of scrimmage now there was a blow coverage because the corner has to come off to the furthest outside guy but Connor cook came off that coverage allowing Wormley get back there for the sack where's Mike Geiger he's been in a little bit of a slump for his last food [Applause] is no good wide to the right coach Dantonio says he's not worried about Geiger he is a proven track-record last year's 15 out of 16 case of the shanks right now Spartans trying to remain undefeated in Big Ten Conference play the only two teams left of the Big Ten without a conference loss Michigan State and Ohio State they mean here in two weeks Michigan State's off next week they get ready for that show down with the Buckeyes near as much if they don't take care of business today as a 17 point favorite against Michigan's the most Michigan states ever been fated by a news network Norfleet dumped immediately by Curtis Drummond the veteran safety senior came flying up to drop that play for a loss back to the 16 yard line in their predetermined Devon is throwing the ball automatically he's not even reading the defense Drummond is reading his mail that means he's reading it before Devon's read it he's running right to it off the man in man coverage and making a good open field tackle Drummond has played average this year Shawn but he's become more disciplined and has picked up his game of his late head to justice Hayes [Applause] and Davis what will be the last play of the first quarter [Applause] statistically dominated by Michigan State but that missed field goal by the Spartans was large seven nothing Michigan State after one [Applause] that into the second quarter Michigan State leads seven to nothing here's Tom McShea number one the wide receiver Devin Funchess from Michigan is a future first-round pick because he's a mismatch his size at 65 to birdie the problem Michigan has is that Michigan State has a really good corner in Trey lanes number 15 that is mirroring him 1 most plays now here it's not the case but watch that individual matchup throughout this game if he can't beat Wayne's number 15 101 really gives Michigan State a big advantage in terms of numbers in the box when they line them up in the backfield to get him isolated open receiver Anakin amara Darbo nice diving catch where a 24-yard gain in just the second first down to the game for michigan lacks coverage by Wayne ready here he's letting him inside your safety is gone and if you're in type of man-to-man coverage would say war which is a cover one take away the inside and use the sideline as your help because he has all that green will work within the middle of the field 24 yard gain they had just 8 yards of offense in the first quarter [Applause] sippy Stape did the week off to everybody tell them how wonderful they are another bottle by Gardner Avion Smith coming up two yards short of the first down in the arms of Tuan Jones now the middle linebacker he was an outside linebacker last year snap that's a little anytime that snap from the shotgun is a little off for the quarterback has to move a lot of times that disrupts the ball handling in the backfield from which he witnessed there where baby I was late getting the ball Jack Miller is the center gardener in the shotgun short set nicely designed and executed play punches open in the flat for a first down to the 46 yard line this part you said the shot nice design and how they get Wayne's off the punches will you stack him then you see Wayne's drop off the Funches is reading with Gardner he's a semi-open flat for the easy pitch and catch for the first down with designed by Doug nussmeier that's it create the matchup that you want don't let the defense dictate to how they want to do it you do what you want to do great field position at this bar first down there averaging negative yardage on there eight first down place so far today if Davis made the tackle on Davion Smith the only other teams in the country that hadn't recovered at least one fumble fired - today we're West Virginia and Oklahoma State they're playing each other today there's the woes on first down now - five Glasgow's the rate guard his helmet came off so he's off the field for one play and its second intent Dinah's pass incomplete for Devin Funchess Curtis Drummond in coverage and I was just about to say to you Chris before the fumble by Josiah price if you're a Michigan State fan you have to be a little uneasy because they've had the game pretty much going their way throughout this half and yet they're only up seven to nothing and the hora AZ pitcher offense is not balanced right now but not able to attack through the air but also you're comfortable because you're starting to see a Spartan defense continue to get better and they're reading the routes of the Michigan players before Devin Gardner is seen the route Drummond right there was all over Funches they're jumping on time for double moves with your Michigan time for gardener this time intended for Fluxus and broken up by Darien hips you judge corners on makeup speed this is the right read the balls floating a little bit but Darian Hicks coming from the flat coverage in his too deep look to get underneath the punches and just knock it out of the hands at the last second make up speed is primary in playing planner for me along he'll go try for Matt while he's made seven of his last eight after a shaky one for four start to the years three for three in there over Penn State two weeks ago Alaska last week from 48 yards and it is good buffeted around by the gusty wind gets Michigan on the board they still haven't scored a touchdown against the Spartans since their meeting in October 2011 [Applause] while we'll kick off seeing you from San Diego and the family of Michigan men his dad his grandfather's great grandfather's great-great-grandfather all went to University of Michigan Medical School his dad's a team doctor for San Diego State RJ Shelton will bring Matt's pick on fights his way near the 28 yard line [Applause] look like he was stacked up to Michigan territory to the 49-yard line a 24-yard game well one of the areas where Langford struggle was vision in patience right there what makes him special Tom's that little jump cut and what I also like about him is after contact he's always keeping his legs doing some guys their legs die on contact not with Langford it leads to a lot of extra yards so let's play of 20 yards or more for the Spartans now ahead by only four under three minutes to go and a half one timeout left for Michigan State the 40 yard line the 8 of 9 taken down by Jordan Louis it's one way to get your quarterback back in rhythm you see a corner off you call a little hitch and it get lipid involved is a big part of your offense explosive player this really emerged as a senior to lead the big ten in receiving yardage been in receiving touchdowns he's caught eight touchdown passes dick Ryan makes the stop on Langford this close to the first down appears to habit it does first down Spartans by the way would you like to guess as to which head coach at Michigan State has the best winning percentage against Michigan the rivalry I'm going with Duffy Doherty well you're over to San Antonio five and two five and two best winning percentage of any Spartan coach against Michigan won five of the last six after losing his first try around Aaron Burr bridge jr. from Farmington Hills Michigan Farmington Hills Harrison High School where he was a teammate of Michigan's Devin Funchess on some terrific teams they want a state title they're good pals they text a lot but not this week nice one-two punch in high school football defend that Wow we'll send a lot of good players particularly to Michigan State over the years including Drew Stanton mark Dell lunches to Michigan [Music] Boldin made the tackle this is her sketch in the last five games for truth the junior from Minneapolis a walk-on it's automatic around college football as a whole anytime you have a slot receiver matched up on the linebacker the quarterbacks eyes going right to that spot trusting his guy's going to win that battle 99% of the time and they usually do [Applause] 13 yard game on the past a trip now they set up a screen [Applause] the 7-yard line in the arms of Jordan Louis and cook wants them to line up very quickly first and goal this good good job of patience AB Lankford allowing his blockers to get downfield now they're doing what they want Shawn inside handoff the Langford 10 goes into the end zone first Spartan touchdown [Applause] Michael Geiger on for the extra point sophomore from Toledo Ohio [Applause] and the extra point good which hope telling everybody reminding anybody the four quarter game hold up the fingers let him know we're still in it we might have to remind them what a touchdown is when they play Michigan State it's been since his first season as head coach 2011 they've scored a touchdown against the Spartans here's Todd Bichette doing a lot of positive things on both sides of the ball but weren't able to get positive results on the scoreboard how important was that last drive I think it was critical you know they bred driving on the end of the field gets scored twice on so you give these dad I guess how would you know the second and five down here we got to take a loss that I've got sacks so two points off how just that's the play of your cord rec Connor cook well that's windy out here he's making some throws you know and you know our guys are catching the ball we just got to finish okay thanks coach we usually do finish as you saw on the graphic rarely lose a halftime lead under coach Dantonio Tabitha one halftime report right after these messages these lansing michigan the homestanding Spartans leading michigan 14 to 3 as we head toward the second half Sean McDonough with Chris Spielman we're talking now about 2 hours and 39 minutes and change of game time action since the last time Michigan scored a touchdown against Michigan State back in 2011 37 yards of offense and a half permission well the struggles continuing and Devon struggles continue so you have to look at it okay now do we switch it up again and go with Shane Morris or we stay with Devin Gardner the decision is based on who gives us the best chance to win and Brady thinks right now demagogue nur is that guy but no guy can do it I don't care if you bring Brack Tom Brady they can't protect so they can't make any reads down the field attack the middle of the field because the protection is likely it will be Michigan's wall to begin the second half 0 yards rushing 37 passing but Devon Gardner in the Wolverines in the first half 10 quarters and change since they last scored against the Spartans with a touchdown [Applause] goal today the two field goals last year for in there [Music] Kevon Cronin's kick-off out of the back of the endzone here's Todd McShane I think Chris just nailed it when pressure comes they're not picking it up very well so it obviously leads to the quarterback having to make quick decisions now it's not his greatest strength here you're gonna see on that flea flick the pressure gets to him just that that play was never going to work from the beginning but what bothers me with Devin Gardner is when pressure comes his eyes drop and no quarterback can see down the field and take advantage of receivers coming open late if their eyes are looking for pass rushers rather than feeling the rush and looking down the field for those wide receivers that's something that's got to improve but to this point he's not shown it consistent ability to do it that's where you have to be able to throw to a spa as opposed to just throwing to a man despite the pummeling he took last year and the Michigan took acid TV their 2006 loss here Davion Smith carries Antoine Jones made the tackle Gardner said during the week he thought he played pretty well last year he said a lot of times I made the first man miss I missed the second man missed but they just kept coming after me he says that Eco salad was a linebacker here at Michigan State last year was the best player ever played against [Applause] he has been under pressure but he hasn't done much to help the cause either six for ten passing for 37-yard all 37 yards that they had in the three yards rushing up in a first down play Smith again tackled by Tom Jones it'll be third down about two and a half might not be a bad idea Sean to hit number 88 Jake buck involved a sketchy tight end good route runner to be a threat in the middle of the field [Applause] Wolverine's two four six on third down [Applause] Michigan State 29 turn [Applause] twenty first defensive scorer in the eight seasons under Mark Dantonio the second this season RJ Williamson the junior from Dayton Ohio the Michigan fans in disbelief but they've seen this before Michigan is a turnover machine [Music] Michael Geiger makes at twenty one two three [Applause] it's hard to tell what that throw is he just threw a changeup to his right tented for Norfleet Williamson with the pick-6 [Applause] McDonagh Chris Spielman Tom McShea our producer beau Garrett director Mike Schwab our terrific production and technical crews RJ Williamson interception return for a touchdown Devin Gardner another turnover [Applause] ix interception of the years - only six touchdown passes twenty-eight turnovers the last two seasons rest of the team 11 first quarterbacks more prone to turnovers these the one throwing it has the ball in his hand and just about every play you know the statement is what kind of confidence do you have in Shane Morris if Devin Gardner is giving you the best chance to win assuming that they're making a decision that he kids have the best chance to win hey Morris a lot of attention given to the concussion that he suffered he started against Minnesota the coaches said he is cleared to play and would be the backup quarterback today he's still in there an under center on first down it's 12 taken down by twan Jones took them from 6:00 rushing yards for the game to 18 I look on the bright side it is a big improvement over the minus 48 yards rushing they had last year worst in the history of the great Michigan program the winningest program in the history of college football has fallen on very tough time they entered today's game having won only four of their last 13 games Wasel is something turns to that ugly with 8 minutes to go in the third quarter gardener deep again in the single coverage and J Wings had the better position as he was eyeing another interception [Applause] [Music] acted as the defender on that play when your stride for stride as a defensive back you can make a play on the football now Wayne's couldn't help himself by kind of stopping and adjusting go to the highest point and I loved our Bo recognizing he has no shot Ford to reach around and play defensive back for the Wolverines it looked like he was guilty of offensive pass interference there his right arm around the shoulder pads on second and ten [Applause] jobs inside the 30 any time you pull wine menu you have to be able to account for Blitzers nobody accounted for number 34 want Jones toin Jones right here number 34 is gonna he sees the puller that's an open hole and you have to account for me by either blocking back or cutting him off at the point nobody does and he's able to close with passion Michigan's three out of nine and third down one for the last six and third and 17 a run to justice Hayes then Davis combined on the tackle well short of the first down hill spotted at the 43 fourth down and four will Hager up to punt [Applause] when you talk to Mark Dantonio it's very obvious that since he's been the head coach this rivalry is very personal sometimes you get your little brother excited when you're playing basketball stuff let me get the lead and then you just come back and take it back let's just remember pride comes before the fall say they want to mock us all they want to mock just I'm telling them it's not over so they can print all that crap all they want all over their lock it's not over will never be over here will be a coach here for a long time it's not over she started it's just started and that intensity is never wavered when he talks about this robbery look at the catch they say he has in bounds the entire touchdown Michigan State 70 yards from Connor cook [Applause] [Music] [Applause] summer together receiver Doolittle Anya little extra you're able to recognize and read each other's minds this is the back shoulder throw lip it knows it's going to be a back shoulder throw because of the position of the defensive back and that comes not from the practice field in September and October that comes from the practice field in the middle summer when nobody else is doing anything beautiful [Applause] Tony Lippett senior from Detroit Big Ten leading nine touchdown reception of the year and the round is on for the second year in a row Michigan getting annihilated in East Lansing Tigers extra point made at 28 to 3 in an eight-game streak with at least one touchdown catch snapped last week in their big wind at Indiana [Applause] receiving game of the season belivet North Lee can't bring back Kevin Cronin's kickoff [Applause] dating back to 1970 Michigan won 30 out of 38 head-to-head against the Spartans Dantonio lost that first one in 2007 was rankled by those little brother comments of Mike Hart he made his comments said he's going to be the coach here for a long time and who had been against that now of the success he is having but it's personal for him he said when you're the head football coach here you run an organization that's very important to a lot of people and I need to represent that to Michigan State people all over and that little brother thing you'll Mike Hart wasn't the first person to suggest that you talk to the Michigan State people they feel there's an arrogance about the Michigan program and the University as a whole in its alums that really bothers them interrupt is in the wrong way up here for eight years when I played for the Detroit Lions and that's true I mean Michigan's they just don't like each other and Mark got his first exposure working for Nick Saban when he first came here in 1995 as a defensive back coach and he started noticing it and it is true he does take it personal and guess what he leads so the players take his lead if this game is important to him then he makes sure it's important to those players and this is the most important game to and he's made that clear and everyone the Michigan State program knows [Applause] and a late flag thrown intent of her AJ Williams one of their tight ends roughing the passer [Applause] [Applause] we're gonna reach out to Jim kemberly who's one of the best of the replay boat see we can understand why he rolled that way even swan Jones started walking off the field as soon as the flag cannon walking off the field cuz he thought he missed it anyway clip-on for the second year in a row gardener being whacked around I got you this Michigan State defense well punches couldn't make the catch to the end of that play trae Waynes have the coverage that's a dark my gardener best thrown ball of the day and again his best receiver came up with an almost almost had the touchdown darn it [Applause] that's a touchy pass interference poll I think and go either way with that but the bigger issue here is that a great player makes that catch and his hands are turning the wrong way he's got to turn those hands back to the football they were turned inside they need to turn out for the ball deepest penetration of the day for Michigan's offense the 25 of Michigan steak and they finally score touchdowns against the Spartans for the first time since 2011 nearly 11 full quarters now thank you great call them absolutely true for the Spartans two weeks from now against the Buckeyes Marga's rush took down just as hayes but the drive continues with significant help from the penalties against the Spartan defense under five minutes to go now in the third quarter [Applause] when the day started it was two hours and eight minutes of game action over the previous two games plus without a touchdown for Michigan against this part they've played 40 more minutes 40 and a half four minutes today [Applause] maybe on Smith takes us down to the 11 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Porter [Applause] Michigan State won that game Michigan won the year after that Arbor twelve to ten Michigan kick to field goals last year here lost twenty nine to six jail 28 to three today they have been a very good red zone team the problem is they get there so infrequently [Applause] the ten tackled by Trey Wayne's big third down so you got to think you like the hype down here Jake but big ty then come in around six five Devin Funchess what a job he's done last three years they've led the big tent in defense among the best in the country was the Broyles Award winners the top assistant in college football last year could have had the head coaching job at the University of Connecticut decided he wanted to stay here five tonight assistants and his staff have been with Dantonio for all their success [Applause] again couldn't hang on this is the matchup you want for lunches on Drummond advantage pontius but again it's almost Funchess today because this is a chance where great player could make a great play for his football team when they need it has the ball cannot hold on and it's a good job by Drummond of fighting through the hands but great players Shawn figure a way to get the job done [Applause] munches goes in motion gardeners over his last five passing they bring up wits after him he steps up runs for the yards to make and I'm not sure he got there got a helicopter around by RJ Williamson looked like he was going to make it with ease when they stopped him right on that five-yard line a little bit short of it in fact and this is going to be a very close notes not even a measurement apparently [Music] was it totally on I think the spire at least wanted a measurement there and it certainly seemed close enough to at least warrant the measurement is hit by RJ Williams from Lauren Styles hustling from his defensive live position right there and Thomas mighta stopped him enough and going forward I think that's a pretty darn good spot definitely short of the five and that yellow marker or that orange marker is right on the five yes Maya really agitates been a frustrating year for him obviously and for everybody involved with this Michigan football program and the touchdown drought continues [Music] surges out to the 12 eight of six is very close to another 100-yard game that's 97 yards rushing now Jeremy Langford join our chat with em yesterday talked about growing up in the city Detroit area didn't really pay much attention we asked to meet with Michigan fan of Michigan State I didn't really pay much attention to college football I said I really didn't start paying attention to the 11th grade when I realized that was a prospect when I might actually go to college [Applause] [Music] to the college life and he was almost ticketed for the endzone here the crowd Raymond Taylor tripped him up in the open field it might have been off to the races but it is 11 straight regular season games well the hundred yards are more in matching the streak of her dizziness back in 96 and 97 he also had a hundred plus in the Big Ten championship game sorry to bring that back up against against the Ohio State Buckeyes Pete ball I think he's the biggest reason this offense started turning around last year they settled in on Langford and the more he ran the football the better they got in the end the more he keep stronger tougher Cary's again written down by Jake Ryan I wanted to take my hat off to the Michigan defense I mean they know that they're playing with the struggling offense but they play hard and that's a credit that Brady Hoke and it's a credit to Greg Madison the defensive coordinator every film that I watch they get after it and they give you everything they have you're a Michigan fan you need to be proud of this defense and what they do you've always been a glass is half-full really the end of the bag of tricks McGarrett Jordan Lewis sophomore from Detroit up to make the play think another guy who doesn't get a lot of credit here in Michigan State but should with the explosion of offense this year's gage Warner the offensive coordinator they've added that Jets week more quarterback run game and a lot of their talent back from last year but there's Dave Warner on the right coordinated with Jim Bollman who's next to him they've wandered has done a terrific job in the structure and the play calling for this offense the season end of three quarters Michigan State all over parties in-state rival from Ann Arbor 28 to 3 for the number 8 team in the country [Music] while the 30-yard line here third down and one for Michigan State's trying to grind out the clock here beat Michigan for the sixth time of the last seven years a lot of people say Alabama is the best one loss team right now I think you can make an argument for them for me I like Morgan I like Oregon because I like to quarterback and they can score points and the leaves yes you got to play good defense but if you can't score points if you don't have that great quarterback it's going to be very difficult to win a national championship we're talking about comparing the teams with one loss and offensive line really damaged by injury whoops trouble on the handoff Ben Frank Clark has recovered Jeremy Langford never did seem to get it from Connor cook with a very rare turnover for a Michigan State three takeaways all season long for Michigan on defense entering today they've had to today just the trouble of all hailing looked like the ball was just a tad low right there but one that you certainly need to execute me executed it a thousand times executing fundamentals thunder good job by the defense again and the great player making a play for Michigan they need more Frank Clarke's the step up to take place you need on this side his Michigan State fan still making plenty of noise they're aware of the recent history that Michigan has the scored a touchdown in this rivalry since 2011 Shane Moore says commit at quarterback poor Michigan [Applause] got his hands on a ball and couldn't Corral it with Curtis Drummond in coverage Devin Gardner's now coming in to replace I'm you know I get it I guess that gives you the best chance but when you throw a ball like that and you're hot you have nothing to lose and you have reporter back responsible for three turnovers see what he can do we had him in a boy English and putting him into the game for one play unless there was an equipment issue had some sort of problem I wasn't ready to go on the quick change the take away [Applause] good defense by Darian Hicks to swat it away from Amara Darbo well here's this reason Shawn because he's never taken out of his backpedal Darbo does not drive this route he's got to put his hands down and sell like he's going down the field and the other thing he does not do receiver one back to the football and keep that defender on your back so if you don't make the catch she'll get a pass interference [Applause] down in town [Applause] first down near the 10-yard line [Applause] good job by the Wolverine offensive line picking up the stunt in a well-thrown ball by Gartner on time the Funches number two Hicks for playing that short round third and ten you know his favorite target cover the favorite target don't worry about the play deep the short 24 yard game first and goal from the Michigan State this [Applause] closing in quickly [Applause] when I saw Morris come in Chris for that one plate to me it made sense you touched on it earlier certainly not all the blame is with Devin Gardner but he's been turned over prone for a long time he's a senior you're going nowhere fast in this season they're going to have to do a tremendous amount of work just to make a bold it doesn't seem like why Morris a chance to play how much worst in his offense be in the flat canteen racing values we have a touchdown altaïr is gonna mark it out of the one a good call again by Douglas Meyer I mean doing everything he can to get the ball to the athletes in space and you could see outside the pylon [Applause] [Music] great effort by canteen there [Applause] or tend to go [Applause] man there it is no flags no whistles no administrative errors see the excitement of duck mess fire right there good good for him I mean good for the offense to get some type of confidence and this is the offensive line taking control this line of scrimmage good block in Davion Smith running through the unblocked Paris number 45 the linebacker to punch it in should be excited kids aren't quittin he's a fiery competitor is a great player in Idaho quarterback for almost 11,000 yards in college the spired played in the NFL for the colts and safe they're going for two there's the two-pointer - Jake button makes it a 17-point game and that's an interest perhaps the folks watching it parts of the country [Music] playing for the Paul Bunyan trophies parties ready for it Michigan State leads 28 to 11 as Michigan [Applause] this scored a touchdown and added a two-point conversion Matt while to kickoff Michigan State expecting the onside kick and lines up in that formation [Applause] best receiver in the Big Ten out there in the hands team good man to have [Applause] Lanford - beverage perhaps just to cross it we saw those rankings and I agree with you if Notre Dame wins out there only lost is that one loss at Florida State when it looked like they had won the game and then go ahead touchdown was wiped out by the offensive pass interference which I thought was a good call by the way know if you did I did I thought somebody asked me about that I said it could have gone either way but I certainly understood why the call was made those receivers you really have to sell that you can run the pick into play but you have to look back for the ball and just trying to sell your pick a little bit everybody in college football runs it well they didn't do that so that's why I thought it was good call the only way if evaluating one lost teams in this they'd get in Langford nearly got the first doubt he got to the Michigan 40 [Applause] langford up to 137 yards rushing now [Applause] one more first down Chris and he'll come out of the game we don't want to risk injury to him under two and a half minutes to go keep him fresh they have guys that can spell him and productive guys the first thing and he did [Applause] Todd how about the performance of Connor cook tonight we thoughts about the Michigan State quarterback I thought he played a very good game very windy night and it's EPS some struggles early on the footwork didn't still improve but what I did like especially early on is when pressure was in his face he was stepping into his throws and he wasn't shying away from the pressure again this is probably more affected by the wind than anything but the toughest former quarterback who's hanging in the pocket the guys jumping diving at his feet making good actor throws down the field I think he has a high ceiling I think he can become a very good NFL for them [Applause] these Spartan fans want another score jared wilson dragged him down 27 yard run for Langford go ahead and finish your thought on cooktop exactly I would say this to Connor cook you need another year he's come a long way from a year ago there's a reason why the statistic statistics backup underclassmen struggling when they leave early going to the NFL he can be a good quarterback at the next level but I think he needs one more year come back to Michigan State there's a good supporting cast this is the right place for him to be next season there's no doubt about it his chances on being a better NFL quarterback he's going to improve his draft stock now the only thing that would hurt that knock on wood I hope it never happens to anybody if injury would happen next year but he would be well advised to come back and work on his skill under a minute to go another those many players were talking about Todd and Chris at Michigan State not highly recruited Connor cook told us yesterday the only other scholarship offers he had at the FBS level from Miami and Akron these Spartan fans want another score todd todd todd fuel on the fire love this John listen the only reason I bring that up Conor never said anything to us about the NFL nobody here did but I heard so many people after the first few weeks and how great he played talking about him as a first rounder and he's going to be ready after this year and it's just not the case again he can be a very good player at the next level if he comes back and continues to improve at the decision-making and the footwork that we've talked a lot about tonight I love the fact that Michigan State's not their job to stop Michigan State he's going to [Applause] just good to see that when Mark Dantonio says it's personal was clearly a statement behind that last touchdown Michigan's job stop Michigan State you can add on anything you want to it but he sent it a message to his team and that's his personality grabs on to that personality the extra point is good by Michael Geiger and a skirmish after the extra point anything serious just some whooping and pushing and shoving makes for an interesting handshake after the game so it's a 24-point margin [Applause] you think he'll smile over tears win by 23:29 to six was the spartans most lopsided win in this rivalry since 1967 this one's going to be one point worse unless Michigan scores again the back of the end zone did Kevin Cronin [Applause] Drake Johnson and RJ Williams from the tackle and on the Michigan side Chris many believe the Brady hopes future really is no longer in doubt that it's a foregone conclusion that this will be his last season while the speculation was it via a chance to survive he needed a window down he was it's not a good football team right now before antenna in their last 14 games look he's a good man he's a good football coach the problem is he understands it's a bottom-line business here at Michigan you have to win and they're not with him hope that simple in remarkable fashion at Ball State San Diego State but it's not happening at the school he loved so much [Music] just become bowl eligible and they still have a game with Ohio State on their schedule here's Todd with Mark Dantonio well winter in this rivalry for the sixth time in the last seven years Oh coach this is a team win Jeremy Langford 35 carries 177 yards how about his performance outstanding performance big run at the end obviously but you know we just were able to run the ball as the game went on and you know that's a positive thinkers and that won six of seven against Michigan how big is this win for this program big win you know obviously huge win for us you really can't understate it for us just happen for a football team very proud of our football team terms of how hard we play how you feeling right now coach I feel good enjoying this good maybe but I feel real good they get the Paul Bunyan trophy as tradition that dates back to 1953 four foot high statue of Paul state of Michigan underneath his feet and again the team with the rushing itch wins again for the 42nd time in the last 45 years 35 to 11 the final score Sparty victorious for Chris Todd and our crew Sean McDonough so long from East Lansing [Music]
