[Music] it's what being without a win can do to you miami's reggie bush was asked about the dolphins plight he said we stink upon hearing that safety jeremiah bell's reaction was that some people should keep such sentiments to himself losing brings a sickly feeling the miami dolphins hope to begin the healing process with a win over the giants here this afternoon cbs sports welcomes you to the following presentation of the national football league [Music] after the ravages of an early winter day yesterday it's a perfect football day here in the meadowlands 41 degree temperatures sunny clear skies on one side of the field tom coughlin his giants at four and two in his eighth year as the giants head man and on the other side of the field oh the man under the gun tony sperano his dolphins looking for their first win in this their seventh start of the season tony on tom coughlin's staff once upon a time in jacksonville the miami dolphins won the toss and have deferred so the giants will get their hands on the ball first and the deep man is number 15 devin thomas dan carpenter set to kick it away 15-yard line the giant quarterback eli manning hard to believe he's in his eighth nfl season he has thrown for 11 touchdowns he's rushed for another he's completing 64 of his passes [Music] you know damn we watched payton grow up it's been pretty much doing the same thing with eli what'd he tell us he said i just can't i really can't believe that i've been in the league this long i can't believe i'm as old as i am of course he looks five years younger than he is giant start from the 15-yard line throwing to the far side of the field and that's complete just across the 20-yard line the new york offensive line bolstered this week by the return of right guard chris snee a concussion forced him to miss the win over buffalo in the backfield the rookie henry heinoski is out today bear pasco will fill in for blocking chores [Music] boy has jake ballard at tight end become a real surprise in only his second here the free agent he is blossoming before our eyes this is bradshaw changes direction maybe back to the line of scrimmage a look at the miami defense paul solei in the middle of the d-line in his fifth season out of utah the linebackers cameron wake is playing outstanding football he's the dolphins team leader in sacks with five and in the secondary tyrone culver starts for rashad jones at safety quarterback vontae davis stayed home with a bad hamstring rookie jimmy wilson starts for him and there is cameron and as you said rookie jimmy wilson starts and that's completely across the 35 to the 37-yard line to victor cruz the second year wide receiver out of umass and it's really it's easy to tell from the crowd reaction there's cruz on the left number 80 just a little juke move at the beginning and that was a a nice release from the line of scrimmage that was a slick move and again that's the rookie in front of him jimmy wilson and wilson clock flat-footed by that little shimmer and shake from victor cruz and the crowd here reacts really favorably every time he touches the football tom coughlin called him a young sponge as soon as he sees it all he'll be even better this is brad shaw off the left side just across the 45 yard line well that is what the giants really need success on first down eli telling us that geez if we could just get some continuity running the football everything is going to fall into line there there's such a good play action team and this is still what tom coughlin would love to do pound the football first down though has been disappointing for the guys in blue on second and two quick pass out into the flat back is complete and fighting for a first down is hakeem well they're really uh hoping that hakeem nicks can break a tackle that time he's going against sean smith who's really a big big corner i mean sean smith you know you take a look at him he's six foot three he has a big physical presence out there michi comes over and helps clean it up they rule enough for the first down so it's a first down for the giants at their own forty-three over the middle wide open hakeem knicks to the thirty-five and again the play action because of the success they had they ran for eight yards on the last first down here comes the play action to fake the bradshaw and a perfect strike that time from eli a little bit behind nick's but he was still able to catch it in stride working against sean smith again and you can see smith in the trail position never in a position to make the play he's lucky he got a little jersey as nix was running away from it again on first down another play faith gonna go deep down the far side incomplete pass intended for knicks he was covered but tyrone culver well eli knew he was going to take a hit because they came with a blitz off both edge on both edges but that also means he's going to get single coverage on nick's and right here you can see oh and you can see how close that coverage was there comes the corner blitz from the rookie wilson and eli took a pretty good shot but uh good coverage downfield manning now on second and 10. the pitch for bradshaw left side shakes a tackle maybe to the 34. run out of bounds by sean smith and will allen there is brandon jacobs who's uh standing on the giant sideline and you know he's been pretty vocal about not being as much a part of things as he would like of course not being healthy isn't isn't a good thing he didn't play in the seattle game didn't play in the buffalo game being healthy is a big part of being a pro you see one of the problems tom coughlin outlines for his team third down has been a trouble far side of the field back shoulder pass is too far behind nick so that's incomplete well this is uh no man's land yardage wise here for the giants [Applause] no it's it's too far to attempt a field goal and eli and the offense are staying out on the field if you plunder into the end zone from there you pick up a whopping 14 yards and i think that's also an indication that offensively i don't think they're very afraid of miami's offense manny from the shotgun good time going to the end zone and overthrows everybody and the ball will go over to miami dolphins on downs mario manningham was double-teamed down the middle of the field tony spirano and the miami offense after this play in the opening quarter here at the meadowlands and the miami dolphins with their first time on offense from their own 34-yard line not more gonna across the 35 to about 37. matt moore starts despite a case of sore ribs one touchdown pass three interceptions for the fifth year quarterback from oregon state in our conversations with him yesterday yes he's enjoyed some success against this dolphins team with carolina two seasons ago through 15 of 20 171-3 touchdowns but then again he's lost to the giants too yes he has and again you know even though it's his fifth year this is only the 16th career start for matt moore he's really not very experienced for a five year guy his first pass of the day outside and that's complete to push and bush just across the 40 to the 41 yard line in the middle of the offensive line first round draft pick mike pouncey brother of the outstanding steelers center marquis bouncy and the dolphins still looking for that breakout game from reggie bush he has one touchdown on the season that on a pass reception no rushing touchdowns so far and he's averaging just a little less than four yards of carry not sure that we see the first from reggie bush that we saw when earlier in his career with the saints third and three more out here to push bush with the first down out of bounds at midfield it's going to come right as just a simple little flare out of the backfield and the giants looked like they were a little bit surprised you can see a pretty bad angle there coming up and trying to make the tackle by trion he got out flanked pretty easily on the most basic of patterns out of the backfield by reggie bush so miami at midfield this is bush once again penetration that time from the defensive front on defense for the giants they get veteran justin tucked back he's missed four games with neck and groin injuries and linebacker the giants get steady play and then some from number 94 matthias kewanuka sixth year backer from boston college and the new york quarterbacks are top aaron ross leads the team with three interceptions corey webster right behind him with two here's justin tucker through the objective joking from his teammates for the time he's missed second and thirteen to the outside grabbed by brandon marshall and forced out of bounds well brandon marshall is 6'4 230 pounds and when he was with the denver broncos i thought there was a time there when after he had the ball in his hands he was the toughest wide receiver in football to get to the ground he's one of those guys that never looked for the sideline he looked to initiate the contact a very physical presence his problem is here a lot of drops on third and nine lex junior just come into the miami backfield moore steps up out of trouble gonna run for it has the first down inside the 35 to about the 33-yard line well great pressure off the edges that time by the giants the crowd was really looking for a stack but then matt moore was able to step up into the pocket and escape because they lost their rush lanes take a look at that you can see getting knocked all the way to the inside was justin tuck and i think he was a little bit out of his lane and that really opened it up for matt moore the ends did their job they closed off the pocket from the outside but those two tackles they've got to honor their pass rush responsibilities and not give an escape route to the quarterback 16-yard rush for matt moore play fake war with time throwing near sideline and that's complete inside the 20 to the 17-yard line charles clay the rookie full-back out of tulsa and charles clay doesn't have a lot of receptions for the dolphins that's just his fourth one but he's averaging over 20 yards of reception so when he gets out he gets open and is that toe on the line boy that was close that was rule to completion it looked like he was in bounds but not by much so the dolphins now to the 17. inside the 15. corey webster kenny phillips making the stop well greg talked about it earlier that reggie bush you know was you know just yeah i think he stated the obvious when he said we stink after when you're all in six everybody is involved in that and jeremiah bell took exception to it and and you know you don't want to be lumped in with that but i don't i'm going to defend reggie bush a little bit i think a little they got made he got made into a little bigger deal than it really was you have every right to say we stink at the opener this is steve slayton and slaton is wrapped up by matthias kiwanuka well steve slayton is getting some carries today for the dolphins because they're missing they're very talented rookie daniel thomas uh he didn't even make the trip the rookie from kansas state who he's really a wonderful alternative to reggie bush and i think thomas is going to have a a bright career but he's banged up and he's already missed a couple games and he's not here again today they need a healthy daniel powers miami doing well on third down today okay here's another third and six more to the end zone oh there's that's got to bring a flag it does indeed in the end zone pass intended for brian hartline and aaron ross was covering well he was covering he jumped on and tried to go for a ride is what he did well that was covered aaron ross aaron ross knew he was beat and just went for the full grab he gets out to the outside and that's that's just a full-blown mugging and then you gotta love the hands going up afterwards like who me i don't think you can head over to the bench and tell your head coach come on now that was a terrible call i didn't do it miami dolphins touchdowns have been rare this season they average only 15 points a game red zone has been a problem for tony sparano's club and penalty markers [Music] personal so there goes a stop at the goal line they'll repeat the first down well linval joseph there he comes wow i don't know what a guy's thinking when he does something that dumb comes over the top and intentionally with his helmet uh launches himself into someone although there's a limit to how much damage you can't do anything except be obvious in drawing the flag 11th play of this drive not smart slinky touchdown miami well i think tom poppler's decision to go for it on fourth and now fourth and nine we talked about at the time was maybe he's not all that concerned about miami's ability to do much offensively and guess what they drove the they drove on down and stuffed it in the end zone it's a good surge off the left side really nice job there nate garner who's filling in at left guard for incognito jake long and uh we'll see where this thing ends up but i think right now the guys in blue realize well there might be a football game going on here today an 11th play 66 yard drive by the dolphins [Applause] dan carpenter's extra point attempt is good four minutes ten seconds to play in the first quarter the miami dolphins hungry for a win get on the board signs find our fares online only at southwest.com sprint all football no limits only from sprint and by acura acura advance welcome back everyone miami goes 66 yards in 11 plays to score the touchdown and grab the seven to nothing lead carpenter's kick devin thomas coming out of the end zone outside breaks free and come down just short of the 40-yard line good return from devon thomas will give eli manning good field position against the miami dolphins tony sperano his guys still playing hard for him 403 to play in the first quarter the giant off the terrific return from devin thomas started their own 37-yard line and this is bradshaw cuts it left finds it open breaks outside into miami territory to about the 45-yard line tyrone culver forced him out boy a couple of things first of all the vision of ahmad bradshaw that's going to start this to the right but then he realizes that his offensive line on the left and the way they collapsed that bear pasco did a good job nick's downfield doing his part as a wide receiver trying to wall off his guy and good fundamentals switch the ball over into the other hand a little straight arm to the face and ahmad bradshaw gives his team a little spark he takes a break brandon jacobs into the backfield play fake to jacob manning with tyler far side of the field complete and out of bounds inside 35 to mario manningham again he's working on the rookie jimmy wilson and take a look at the respect that wilson is giving him giving ground before the snap of the ball and when you turn your hips down field like that as a corner you are dead i mean you just have no chance and manningham coming back great job of coming to the quarterback dragging the toes nice route by mario manningham and now dj ware is in the backfield for the giants inside the 15-yard line to jake ballard the tight end i think everybody could hear eli manning draw the dolphins off sides we call that a hard count it's voice inflection tom coughlin told us sometimes he gets me on the sidelines is a tremendous another good look and listen manning down from the 12. bradshaw right side cuts it back inside we get a penalty marker as he goes to about the nine holding offense number 86 ten yard penalty repeat first down pasco the guilty party well bear pasco he plays a lot for the giants anyway but with uh with haninski out today he's really assuming a lot more of the role of the true fullback and and he had the great block just a couple plays ago when bradshaw was able to get around left corner but again here we have three giant penalties already in this game [Applause] yeah and he wasn't alone we had a couple double clutches up there offense number 76 five yard penalty remains first chris the right guard yeah he moved as well but there were multiple offenders i know what you're going to say when in doubt give it to alignment well no but i'm telling you that's eli manning it's the point tom coughlin was making to us his heart count is so good that there are times that our guys can't hold it either even though they know it's not right it's so forceful and so loud it's got an energy to it that makes an offensive lineman flinch so now it's first in 25. well again the corners for the dolphins are giving a lot of ground and we're finding giants receivers that are just standing out there in space and there's a good indication of it right there playing against the zone crews out there all by himself and sean smith comes up but way too late no chance of preventing the completion well eli should just walk to the guys up front and say thank you very much because i got a chance to look left right left right this is completely eradicating the pass rush you can see the dolphins only come with three people anyway but i i'm not sure how long eli manning could have stood back there he might have been able to go for a world record and that gives your receiving corps a long time to get open so now the man the the lead giants third and five from the seventh and that will bring the field goal unit on well i think that's the clock in manning's head that is saying i've got i'm going to get hit here sooner or later and i better just get rid of this thing let's take our three points and and get off the field but as you mentioned that offensive line doing such a good job he may have to readjust that clock he might because that was again he was under no duress there at all but still the giants four penalties already and we're still in the first quarter lawrence times from 25 yards out only two field goals he's missed this season have been blocked that one on its way and good so with just 17 seconds remaining here in the first half corner the giants are on the board at 7-3 miami the nfl here we go and by the next generation honda civic to each their own miami dolphins put a touchdown on the board the giants came back with three points of their own it's 7-3 with just 17 seconds to play here in the first quarter well the dolphins no stranger to having the lead they were leading denver last week 15 to nothing with what five minutes left to go in the game and as the old saying goes how'd that work for him not well steve slayton d he got back to about 20 to the 20-yard line and we got a flag flying in late [Music] during the return illegal block below the waste number 93 the return team that's the business to the goal first down so that penalty was on john denny and that'll back the dolphins up we'll be back pbs only the 28th penalty committed by miami this year that's the lowest in the nfl let's push them back to their own 10-yard line that's where they'll begin play fake to bush over the middle complete 25 brandon marshall out to the 30 yard line in a first down and with that time winds down here in the first quarter that's the end of the first with the score miami seven in the giants three not a bad day so far for miami we're back to midlife stadium in new jersey after this you're watching the nfl on cbs it's come out like a house of fire he's the leading rusher on the dolphins through the first quarter reggie bush has run it three times for a grand total of four yards clayton's running twice for one yard there's brian davil the new offensive coordinator of the dolphins dan henning retired after last season and sporado brought in david this is bush out to about the 34-yard line while we have a moment get scores and manage cbs sports fantasy football teams on your mobile phone to get the free app simply call star star cbs or go to cbsports.com you know in that last run we saw by reggie bush there's something that he's being called upon to do a lot more in miami and that's run between the tackles you know new orleans he was a receiver you know he caught an awful lot of passes everything it seemed was designed to get him on the edge but here in miami he's he's been running it more between the tackles either one never thought that was his strong suit on second and six and bush about a yard short of a first down at the 40-yard line and you know damn as we talked to these dolphins last night i know you felt the same way you were looking for any sign whatsoever that this is a team that's given up on the season giving up on themselves we didn't see that brandon marshall was brash enough to tweet that they were going to go out and crush these giants he told he was actually talking to the media he said i don't want to read a story after this game that uh basically implies that the giants didn't take it seriously on third and one the game is to lex billiard and hilliard bulls his way forward with a good push from the offensive line for a first down i i don't think the dolphins are going on and win the super bowl this year but i will say this i give them credit they have hung together by all you know by all appearances they're supportive of their coach their coach is supportive of them and i this is a locker room in my estimation this is nowhere close to falling apart tony sperano told us he changed things up quite a bit this week just tried to go away from the normal state of affairs he said we did nothing it was not we changed up every every drill every period we did differently on first down play fake incomplete moore's first incompletion of the day brian hartline the intended receiver but that came up way short brian hartline thought he was a decoy he never even uh he wasn't expecting the ball to come his direction at all now one of the things that matt moore faces as does anyone going up against the giants and every one of the dolphins made this point to us as well the giants could put an effective pass rush on you just with their four guys up front well what a luxury that is they only have one sack by anyone who's not a member of that pass rushing front four so it's that is such a luxury for defensive coordination look out here comes one of them right now moore with the escape back on the move and he's gonna and he's coming in from the blind side moore can't see him somehow he doesn't know it until human europe actually has his jersey when he has no clue and as oc swings for the football moore is able to step up enough and garner gives right after this enough of a block for him to get away well that's as close as a sack as you can come to he was pretty sure he had sacked number six on the season if we get a timeout miami falls it with 12 51 to play in the first that beautiful view provided by netlife up above that view doesn't reflect how much snow fell on this whole area 24 hours ago third and six miami deficient on third down today more trying to run it out of there again has another first down inside the 45 to the 42. well matt moore doing everything here for the dolphins he's throwing the ball extremely well he hits by far and away their leading rusher and again you can see the entire giant defensive line goes past matt moore and a little unorthodox he takes a little hop step secures the football getting by corey webster right there pretty nifty move by a quarterback who finishes it off with both hands on the ball like an ohio state pullback this is bush bush with running room up the middle still on his feet 25 20 10 and out of bounds it'll be first and goal well in the old days when you went to tackle somebody you used your arms and you wrapped them up and right there was a good illustration of how tackling has changed check it out right there aaron ross number 31. jonathan bounces back so reggie bush as he's on his way out of bounds and trail roll just has him by the back of the jersey and won't let go even though he knew he was a good four or five yards out of bounds and drags reggie bush to the ground so miami with a first and goal from the three and a half through that one to steve deluxe hilliard rather out of the backfield well we saw a miscommunication earlier between moore and brian hartline where you couldn't call that a bad pass this is a bad pass it looked like matt moore's foot slipped a little bit as he stepped into it and that caused the nose of the ball to dive toward the ground i can't imagine how desperately tony sperano in this dolphin scheme would would love to leave here with a win it would be the first time they've scored touchdowns on consecutive drive this is slate to the one he looks like he might even be inside the one let's see where they spot this ball and that's the other thing when you're uh well they're gonna spot it right at the one but this is uh you know again a team that got no pressure on it whatsoever whatsoever other than they'd love to win but you know the dolphins the dolphins in this situation on the road they're playing loose and easy they look to stay perfect don't throw it down more for satan slayton stood up and pushed back well that was a formation that was so apparent that they were going to run the football boy did the giants commit to the run and the miami offensive line never got a surge at all check that out every guy it seems on the new york giants defense won their individual battle and there is just absolutely nowhere to go and tony sperano is going to go for it and why not well that's what i just mentioned about being loose and easy moore gonna keep it around the right side all alone for the best running touchdown and so far in this game that's what matt moore has been he's been the most productive runner boy did that miami sideline erupt good ball fake again a good call by brian dabel and no one has contained on that side of the giants defense carpenter for the extra point 9 37 to play in the first half you think this score will raise little eyebrows on scoreboards across the nfl the dolphins lead the giants 14 possible outback steakhouse it's always fresh in the outback and by t rowe price understanding the connections of a complex global economy invest with confidence the miami dolphins a team that averages 15 points a game has 14 on the board after that 90-yard 12th play drive they followed up a 66-yard drive and lead it 14-3 two touchdowns today they only had seven all season long coming in this is devon thomas from five yards deep in the end zone back to the 15-yard line eli manning onto the field but matt moore has been this quarterback in the spotlight today and the use of medic the giants from their own 15-yard line brandon jacobs in the backfield and on the ground we have a couple of guys well that's carlos dansby all right it's a pretty simple handoff eli puts the ball on the numbers of brandon jacobs it looked like it might have been a little high although brandon jacob such a big guy that's hard to do and that was a very fortunate bounce that it came right back up to jacobs meanwhile they are looking at the center david boss they'll check him out we'll take a break welcome back everyone carlos dan's be able to walk off the field under his own power as was david boss meanwhile second and ten the giants at the right 15-yard line wrapped up short of the line of scrimmage by kevin burnett let's go back and look at that miami touchdown i want you to watch this is dion grant right here you know he's out here to have contained but instead fazano is going to run a pattern and and grant is going to fall off he's in a matt moore can't get around that edge but grant turns and runs with fazano he has his back out there michael boley in no position to come over and have any contain so uh a good job of execution by the dolphins in a nicely designed play getting fazzano out there manning on third eleven has time far side of the field got his man first down out of bounds mario manningham and boy did the giants need that conversion and again you can see that the giants are going to work the outside they're working the numbers to the sideline against these corners and right there jimmy wilson again number 27 turns his hips and runs downfield and let me tell you something he is in for a long afternoon if he doesn't clean let's get an update for renfrew today's studio in new york james brown and shannon sharp guys shannon cam making up for an earlier fumble they had a lot of questions about cam newton coming into the season jb first half of the season he's answered all those questions down to the one one yard later he would throw a touchdown to jeremy shockey top ball game jv in carolina 7-7 cam's ninth tossing touchdown of the season they had nine all of last year back to greg and dan so much for the expert pre-season opinions well brandon jacobs is still out on the field for the giants but let me tell you something he's hearing it from the crowd and a little confusion leads to a giant timeout with 7 50 to play in the first half [Music] brandon jacobs who has been a topic of some discussion here in new york well he's let it be known that this might be his last year in new york and here on a first down the giants talked about the fact we haven't been very productive on first down and well there's one of the reasons why you just that's a that's a sure five yards at the minimum and you just you can't leave mistakes lying around on the field like that matt moore looks on second and ten manning deep down the far sideline he hit the ground and the ball came out an absolutely 100 out of a 100 for a throw by eli manning again taking advantage of these miami corners you cannot you cannot drop it in there any better than eli manning puts that ball and again it didn't even come out when he hit the ground hakeem nicks just couldn't put the ball away and he's losing possession of it before he even comes all the way down to the ground what a throw by eli third and ten manning under pressure got rid of it incomplete or did eli get hit too jake balor the intended receiver he couldn't hold on and the giants will kick it away and eli got scissored back there between jason taylor and cameron wake well you hate to see a quarterback when he gets it from both sides there's jason taylor at the bottom 99 there's cameron wake boy in the lower body goes one direction and the upper body goes another eli is lucky that he came up out of there okay the bond best is deep from miami what a punt from the 16-yard line that's with running room and caught from behind at the 30-yard line by justin trion time for another update once again across the river to jb shannon continued walls for joe flacco monday night seems to have not left the baltimore raven system here he's sacked by o'brien schofield down to the two one play later beanie wells over the top 10-3 arizona over the ravens wow greg gumbel dan orton thanks guys you know of all the head scratchers around the national football league week after week that performance by the ravens against jacksonville on monday night had to be one of the biggest yes i i would completely agree and you know winning uh winning in baltimore is no easy task this is bush across the 30 to the 32 but the clear standout in this game so far has been that man yes it's been matt moore he's done it with his arm he's done it with his legs right there an awfully good throw to the sideline and then he takes off with it wasn't pretty at the end but he made people miss moves the chains and then matt moore on the big leg just tap dances into the end zone and this is a miami dolphins offense which uncharacteristically uncharacteristically for them is playing with confidence matt moore has outrushed the new york giants 32-26 a little flare to bush no running may have lost the yard on the play once again to our nfl today's studios jb and champion oh shannon just one word [Music] jb the only rookie quarterback that i can think of in my memory that had a rookie season like this is dan marino now he started like that and if he can finish like dan he's got a heck of a career 14-7 carolina as i take it back one word greg let's get those guys at thesaurus or something well you don't have to get cam much of anything other than a pad on the back third and eight for more in the dolphins under pressure spins away from trouble throws outside and he completes it to devon bess for a first down to the 45 what has gotten in to matt moore i mean this time this guy now he's now he's channeling his inner michael vick as he does a spin out of there and then he he delivers a chain moving throw i mean look at this this is this is like dwight freeny this kind of a spin you know a lot of times you do that you go right into somebody else who face plants you who's there waiting for you matt moore making all the right moves first down 46. more this time he can't escape he goes down courtesy of lindvall joseph joseph's first sack of the season [Applause] will the pocket collapsed the last time and matt moore got out this time joseph makes sure that he does not get away and again it's just hard work nothing fancy moorhead if that had been a rhythm pass matt moore had time to get rid of it but joseph just kept working working working beat the block and finally got there give the secondary the giant some credit there matt moore had nowhere to go with that ball second and 17 lead leading 20 seconds sack for the giants this is slate to maybe the 42 or 43-yard line follow the nfl while on the go the nfl's mobile apps are all new for the 2011 season to get the apps go to nfl.com mobile well human euro checks in justin tuck checks in third and long third and 14 and here listen to the crowd they know they want this front four to get after matt moore keep in mind that's by the worst third down team in the league more with good protection this time gonna go deep down the middle he has best incomplete well devon bess is being covered by corey webster who's just having a fantastic season for the new york giants but matt moore boy did he have time to sit back there and survey the field and it was just a you could see that that almost a deflection by webster but his coverage forced matt moore to go back to the outside that would have been some circus catch by devon best brandon fields kicking it away aaron ross ross at the 12. can't get away from the and he's brought down at the 15-yard line hey how's this for a showdown coming up some are calling it the game of the century top ranked lsu will tangle with number two rank alabama saturday prime time here on cbs sports i i trust will be tuned in wherever we are i won't miss a snap of that that's uh it's it's a shame that they both have to be in the same conference that's probably uh that would be a pretty good national championship match up those two tony mcdaniel and randy starks in on eli manning and that time it was eli's turn not to be able to find anywhere to go with the football you know we talked earlier about assert yourself talking about the new york giants and and right now it's the guys in the in the white jerseys that are playing with confidence i'd go back to the outside up at the top of the screen you got the rookie hand off mr wilson number 27. if i even thought for a moment that there might be some single coverage involving wilson i'd i'd be getting after it and that's kevin gilbride calling the plays for the giants there he is wilson the seventh round draft pick out of montana yeah davis isn't playing tonight and he's a rookie making his first nfl start it's a pretty big stage for that third and thirteen manning needs the 26 yard line for a first down and flags and offsets our defensive offside is going to be the ball look his own fraction of the 94 defense five-yard penalty well it's still third and long but randy starks made it uh a little easier just third and third and not as long third or not as long at least they're uh they're going to be inside 10 yards now [Music] but eli has been having some success going outside and i don't uh i don't know that i had to get away from that just about to the 30-yard line well if you're going to blitz eli manning you've got to time it better than that because he saw that coming victor cruz alters his route you can see the blitz coming in and eli saw it coming nolan carroll and well blocked the matt ahmad bradshaw nice job picking up the blitz now the handoff to brad shaw and bradshaw out to about the 34 as we come up to two minutes to play two minutes to play here in the first half good day for the dolphins so far 14-3 [Music] each side with two timeouts remaining two minutes to play here in the first half tom coughlin looking on from the sideline manning from the shotgun throwing this side and that is to braxton out of the backfield chicks one tackler is down at about the 43 yard line now get to the line of scrimmage without a huddle the giants need to pick it up here sir eli called two plays in the huddle caught inside the 45-yard line by hakeem nicks nice job with the beat by hakeem nick take a look at this throw from eli manning he's got to get it up and over and look at nick's up make the catch dot the eyes with his feet nicely done about the 43-yard line jeremiah bell with the tackle over there and we're down to a minute 20 to play oh warming up for what could be a long field goal and he's accounted for but he runs right through the block there on the left there comes dansby and you can see he gets by ahmad bradshaw bradshaw's actually got the responsibility to pick him up but it just doesn't happen beatty does a good job outside on jason taylor but that one came right up the middle and eli had no shot other than to take a shot second and ten still on his feet still on his feet to about the 16-yard line uh how about ahmad bradshaw delivering a little attitude for coffins giants breaking tackles there that's showing a little fight 40 seconds to play in the first half manning that's the ballot and ballard on his feet finally brought down at the 10. 25 seconds on the clock wanting to save that last time it throws to his right bradshaw again and wrapped up at the six looks to be maybe just short of the first down and timeout is called with 12 seconds to play a reminder coming up the spring halftime report jb dan shannon boomer coach bill tower all the latest nfl scores and highlights coming up on the sprint halftime report there's kevin gilbride the offensive coordinator for the giant well if you had another five or six seconds i think he'd be comfortable being able to run a play and if you picked up the first down uh get up there and spike the ball if you didn't get a first down run your field goal team out there but at 12 seconds at 12 seconds i think eli's only choice here is to try for a play that has to be into the end zone giants are out of time out a little fade to the top take your pick but the fade pattern is the way to go mario manningham well they identified this time he's on the left but that's the rookie jimmy wilson and he is nowhere near mario manningham in a position to make a play doesn't know where the football is kind of half turns at the end but that was a pretty easy pitch and catch between eli manning and mario manningham and once again jimmy wilson is having a tough go lawrence times with the 134th consecutive point after the touchdown to give him number one in that category in new york giants history all time breaking a tie with keith bogalac that caps a 13-play 84-yard drive that was well done by the giants offense kevin gilbride calls some some good plays good execution [Applause] and it's all about match-ups and uh the giants did a pretty good job of identifying where the best matchup was and this time it's right there again mario manningham getting a lot of room to the outside from the rookie corner and eli delivering a good pass so with just eight seconds on the clock the giants close to within four and 14 10 and will feel a little better about themselves going to the locker room well i think it'll minimize how much tom coughlin screams at them that they finally look like at least offensively they woke up bridgey bush six carries for 48 yards today team knicks with four catches from 37. and brandon marshall with two for 24 being controlled that's the corey webster who's going to spend most of the day locked up on brandon marshall scooter along the ground picked up at the 20 by lex hilliard hilliard back to the 30 and out to about the 34 yard line with two seconds to play in the first half you know we spent a good portion of this weekend dan talking to and listening to the dolphins who insisted and rightly so that that 0-6 record while it's still 0-6 they were in a bunch of those games oh yeah they they really were you know we we all saw them kind of get run over by the the patriots in their opener but you know they were competitive losing to houston to cleveland san diego and then you know the jets handed it to him but last week that debacle last week leaves a month we've come to the end of the first half 14-10 miami back with the spring halftime report after this message and award from your local station you're watching the nfl on cbs welcome back everyone as we get set to start the second half the miami dolphins with a 14-10 lead on the new york giants let's take a look now at the nfl mobile recap presented by verizon well it's a fade pattern to the left here to mario manningham again taking advantage of a matchup that the giants really like good blocking up front but doesn't have to hold it for too long and eli manning has had a good first half for the new york giants great the thing that surprises me is that i know eli's our best player and you want to put the ball in his hands but in the first half the giants had 27 passing plays and only eight rushing attempts now that's that they'd like a little more balance i'm sure that and it's going to be interesting to see what happens here at the start of the second half who's going to grab the momentum will the dolphins continue off of a first-half lead that surprises a lot of people or will it be the giants who may have may have the big push coming off of the last minute score well i think the big question matt moore played almost a flawless first half for the miami dolphins can he keep it going here in the second half you will recall the dolphins won the toss and deferred and they get their hands on the ball first here in the second half steve slayton is deep for the kick and he will not run this one out of the end zone so matt moore and the miami dolphins will start from their own 20-yard line and as we mentioned in the first half they averaged 15 points a game they've got 14 on the board and they begin here in the second half well when you when you're losing like the dolphins are one of the things that's uh plagued you is an inability to close finish the deal play 60 minutes whatever phrase you would like to use that is something that has eluded it to this point this will be an interesting 30 minutes coming up for the guys from not there for the new york giants and that tom coughlin outlined is a problem for them yes and take a look at that third down conversion rate for the dolphins five out of seven keep in mind coming into this game they were the worst in the national football league at converting on third down quick first down to get the second half started this is bush bush with running rules dodges a tackler look at him go all the way to the 40-yard line of the giants for another first down well reggie bush broke a big run in the first half and here he goes again and again look at the blocking kick out to the left there by jake long a good steel block by mike pouncey the center and then forcing missed tackles but look at this hole open up there goes pouncey to the left 51 showing great range for a center and michael boley just not enough speed to catch bush from behind 35 yards earlier 28 on that run [Applause] four running to the outside down short of the 25-yard line well a different blocking scheme but attacking the exact same point of the new york giants defense again taking a look at this now this was more of a counter play but then you see the block coming back he got a good one from his rookie fullback charles clay and once again reggie bush breaks the tackle take a look at that he runs right through kiwanuka who just can't get him a season high 87 yards rushing for reggie bush and best to about the 22 or the 21 yard line well reggie bush again remember mostly he's been a receiver but against the giants when he was in new orleans and 06 it's only his only career 100-yard rushing day came against the guys here from new york and uh so far today he's up to 87. and uh again this is a pretty uneasy crowd right now at the new meadowlands show we said at the very top of the day that they were looking for that breakout game for reggie bush nothing incomplete and a dangerous pass get into the brian heartline broken up by justin trying well again we talked about this in the first half that we're seeing more between the tackles running by reggie bush and i think that's something that he wants to demonstrate to people that he's capable of being more than just an edge guy whether that's catching passes on the edge or trying to get to the edge i don't think anyone's ever going to confuse him with jim brown or earl campbell as far as running between the tackles but he's dolphins want a penalty marker there is no flag and jake long he's down on the ground and not up yet and jake long looks like he's got a sore leg look at this crossing blitz in the middle and that pocket just disintegrates jason pierre-paul the first one in there and matt moore just lucky that that ball didn't float out of there where somebody could intercept it dan carpenter from 40 yards and it's good 12-17 to play in the third the dolphins take the opening kick of the second half with three on the board and lead it 17-10 12 17 remaining here in the third quarter the miami dolphins with a 17-10 lead on the giants devin thomas deep for new york [Applause] will not run this one out of the end zone so they will start from their own 20-yard line this is one of those games that the giants figure they should win and the schedule doesn't get easier from here dan plus because of what's coming up just take a look there's weeks nine through eleven uh and you know the eagles are two and four come on let's be realistic that's a tougher win than it looks like there and then weeks 12 through 14 you got new orleans you've got undefeated green bay and again dallas is better than three and three and then they finish out with washington they don't have to travel very far to play the jets right here in michigan if there's a tougher schedule remaining scheduled greg for a team in the nfl it's more difficult than that i haven't seen it and although these giants have not taken this game lightly there are a fair number of people in this town who did well of course i mean why wouldn't you you're looking at an 0-6 team i you i wouldn't think the players would because they can watch the tape and they can see that the dolphins are that they compete they will play hard yes a lot of people in this area have taken they've just they've gone right past this one but look at what's happening around the league just today in addition to here winless rams playing very well against new orleans baltimore having their problems with arizona well i i look at this miami team i mean you know i i can't compare them to the rams because i think this dolphins football team is a lot more talented than are the st louis rams and and so even though their records are identical i i think this is a superior team to the to the right i'm just talking about the quality of their 53-man roster under the gun over the middle complete across the 35 mario manningham who has been big on the receiving end for eli manning today and a first down again though blitzing eli manning and here it comes off the edge to his right it's just he's so quick to read it identify it and make the right decision and manningham again he identifies the blitz and look how he uses his arms to get loose and create a target for eli manning in the middle but blitz eli manning at your own risk brandon jacobs back into the back field manning up the scene ballard couldn't hold on what a heartbreaker for the giants they got exactly what you wanted the big guy going right up the seam and that is such a that's such a hard pass for a quarterback to deliver with touch and yet eli manning right on the hands and twice ballard has a chance at it there's the first one there's the second one and he doesn't get a third jake told us last season he worked on one thing at a time during practice to get better where was that dead yeah he'll you'll be feeling that bouncing off second one this is pasco and pasco down the sideline inside the 45-yard line it'll be another first down well eli does what he has to do and again that's fine the open guy and he moves the chain so you know after the disappointment the giants go right back to the air [Music] and eli manning has already thrown the ball 29 times in this game the second year linebacker out of utah and this offensive line has got to create a little more running room than that david boss is back in there at center he was back in there on that last drive in the first half so that was good news giants didn't need to lose him they just got sneaky from the concussion on second and eleven pass out to the side complete to bradshaw and bradshaw just inside the 40-yard line to the 39. well brandon jacobs looked like he thought he was going to get the call he had uh he had some miscues in the first half and if you're going to uh if you're going to be vocal if you're going to talk about you're not getting enough action you're not getting that when you get an opportunity you better do something about it and he in the first half he did hardly a balanced attack for the giants today relying on eli manning's throwing arm here comes the blitz down the sideline it is in and out of the hands of the intended receiver hakeem knicks shawn smith covering well that looked like a pass that could have and should have been completed let's take a look at the conclusion of this and hakeem knicks i don't know if he lost it in the sun because this thing goes right through his hands and bounces off his face mask it looked like down at the five-yard line michael cohe down there with the special teams play for fares online only at southwest.com mcdonald's i'm loving it and by fedex fedex does more than shipping fedex solutions that matter 808 remaining here in the third quarter dolphins with a one touchdown lead and starting from their own five yard line at the beginning of a series which is big for both teams [Applause] bush nothing well reggie bush didn't get much on that one with nine guys in the box but he's been having a pretty good day so far in the first half he breaks that one for 35 yards nice spin breaking tackles and then he's got another one for 28 yards and he's just and he's been having uh he's been having a go at it reggie bush eight carries 87 yards 88 let's follow a season high second to nine bush again leaping over the line of scrimmage and now across the tent and we get another update from jb and shannon in new york guys baltimore trying to break out of its lethargy shannon jb on long throws like this when elway would make them in the game we say this is a long handoff because it's perfect jb you can't do any better than that ray wright scores on a one one-yard touchdown run don't look now here comes the raven 24-13 greg gumbel didn't want one syllable word so let me throw it back to my polysyllabic speaker daily and that would be greg gumble yeah i believe he did that's a word smith where you can work poly syllabic it's that harvard education time out on the field [Music] it was red hot on third down to start this game not so much since third and three five of eight still not bad bush flanked as a wide receiver more for bush down the sideline incomplete he was working against justin tryon and trion was right with him and tryon's coverage uh forced moore to put one up over the top and couldn't complete it nice coverage here by justin tryon the giants ought to come out of this with some pretty good field positions aaron ross standing back at his own 40-yard line that's the first three and out today for either side brandon field russ from the 35 out to the 45. six and a half to play in the third quarter when we come back eli manning going back on offense for the giants or more on car insurance and by the all-new volkswagen passat that's da sato [Music] brandon jacobs into the backfield as manning starts with six and a half to play here in the third quarter he will throw great protection jacob can't get past the line of scrimmage cameron wake with the stop well cameron wake they're doing a good job of showing that he's a pretty complete player now special you know his specialty isn't coverage he's an accomplished pass rusher with five sacks a pro bowler a year ago with 14 sacks but he shows that he can get out there jacob's not the most elusive guy out in the flat but tight coverage on second and nine the give mr jacobs and jacobs goes down after about a one yard game you know talking about cameron you know cameron wake said something to us yesterday dan probably a mantra throughout the nfl we're talking about all the distractions and the talk about coach tony sperano and he said if you're not or if you're thinking about last week then you're losing out on preparation time for this week well he's just trying to make the case that all professional athletes try to live by that you've got to have a short memory you can't you can't dwell on a disappointing loss manny under pressure trying to get rid of it threw it forward and it's picked up by dj ware that's got to be ruled now ron and we've got two dolphins down on the ground that's jason taylor number 99 on his stomach and kevin and burnett [Music] there's jason taylor number 99 he's going to come in and he gets in on it i think jason taylor was hit by burnett and burnett might have landed on his ankle the little left left-handed shove by manning makes that a forward pass you know eli has done that before where he puts that ball over in the left hand and then tries to get rid of it and that is so risky that is you know you that's an easy thing to have rule the fumble well you know eli we've talked about he's done it before there he goes against the rams he completes one to brandon jacob so he wasn't so lucky against the titans if that was intercepted in the end zone very kind of underhand scoops one to a mod bridge and here is today and that is that is a forward pass by the flick of his fingers and that that that's just so close by definition but by nothing else is that a foreigner is so close to being a fumble devon's best deep for the kick terrific kick fair catch call forward made at the 10-yard line by bess five minutes on the nose remaining in the third quarter miami still clinging to a one touchdown lead real coverage today provided by metlife and what an unbelievable day it feels like we traveled through some kind of time warp dan from yesterday to today you can see all the snow still there at the racetrack although it is starting to melt several several million people without power as of this morning we we feel for them they faked the bush matt moore over the middle of one with a grab across the 25 to the 29-yard line by brandon marshall well that's what the big guy can do for you he'll he's he's had his share of drops but that big body he can elevate and corey webster who's got the assignment of being on marshall you can see he's playing for him to go to the outside and and his coverage underneath coming back from greg jones number 53 not able to provide any help that was a that was a good snare there by brandon martin this is reggie bush and bush makes his way to the 35-yard line back across the river shannon and the multi-syllabic james brown it's a revive to steve smith jb cam newton 14 22 205 his third touchdown toss of the nation steve smith carolina's got it rolling i think cam has answered all the questions jb oh please more so and greg please forgive me for coming back with one syllable cam [Applause] the reggie bush right at 100 yards on only 11 carries this is bush you know his only other 100 yard game in his career came against the giants in 06. uh let's go back apparently some unfinished business jb and shannon that it is greg and his name is stephen jackson jb stephen jackson 17 carriage about 10. this one picks up 30 plus yards we got to upset brewing i thought new orleans would score 45 points looked like saint louis might score 45 points 24 nothing greg and dan who would have thunked it man that is a jaw drop i'm rubbing my eyes going that can't be right 24 nothing the rams on the saints certain four and that boy falls a timeout he was a little upset having to do it well he was down it was either take a delay a game that is the second time out used here in the second half by matt moore so stops the clock with 303 to play gives us a chance to tell you coming up next the new england patriots in pittsburgh to go up against the pittsburgh steelers also the browns battle of 49ers the bengals tangled with the seattle seahawks check your local listings for the game in your area now how big is that new england at pittsburgh how big is this dan we are told that ahmad bradshaw has gone to the locker room for x-rays on his foot and his return today is questionable so brandon jacobs isn't getting much of anything done running the football for the giants bradshaw has been the been the guy that's and again it's not like the giants have been running over anybody they've only got 41 rushing yards and most of that from bradshaw so somebody's going to have to pick up the slack or eli is just going to have to throw it every down third and four more to the outside and complete off the hands of devon bess oh fantastic coverage that time by aaron ross he forced that throw because there was no place else for matt moore to put the football this is actually a good throw from matt moore because that's the only place that he can put the football where it's not going to be an interception and who knows maybe his receiver could make some kind of a circus catch [Music] ross is deep for the kick from brandon field all the way back to the six yard line couple of blocks i will cross the tent to about the 11 yard line and eli manning has had to rely on his throwing arm an awful lot so far to this well he's got 221 yards and a touchdown but he has paid a price he's you know you can't play nfl quarterback and not to pay the price but he's taken a couple of awkward hits today hurry 10 different times six times he had to pick himself up off the ground i'll say this that last drive and punt by the dolphins what a tremendous change in field position from their own 10 all the way pinning the giants inside their own 15. and now brandon jacobs in the backfield not that there was any place for him to go on that run no but it did look like there was some kind of a crease back to the inside you know brandon jacobs has never been the quickest of of backs no one would ever call him a scat back at 6'4 264 but when he was younger there's no question that he had he he had a quickness to really be lied a big man like that and i'm not sure that we're seeing that quickness on second and nine that's complete across the 25 for a first down to hakeem knicks so it's clear at least to this point if the giants are going to come back and win this game they're going to have to do it throwing the ball rather than running it you know when we first talked to tom coughlin yesterday morning the first thing he said was everybody wants to put miami down but they're better at running the football than we are and they're better at stopping the run than we are and you know so far today that's proven to be very true just across the 45 yard line that was a pretty good catch penalty [Applause] the left tackle guilty of behold well there's will beatty just coming into your screen and you can see he's he's actually been gored and run up field by igor olshansky but he's got his arms wrapped around him and it it almost looked like he was pulling him by the quarterback he gord oceans he was igored close to 20. this is where pulls ahead to about the 20-yard line if this was young frankenstein he'd be igor well dj ware is having to get a little work as greg mentioned ahmad bradshaw in getting some x-rays as soon as we hear something about whether or not in fact there he is coming back out on the sideline and there are the there are some x-rays and bradshaw is on his way to the locker room and again rookie jimmy wilson is uh involved in the coverage eli manning is spreading it around but there's no question that wilson who's having to play in place of the injured fonte davis is seeing more than his fair share of the action and we won't get another playoff before time expires here in the third quarter i say who to it but you know what the miami dolphins thunk it when they came in here that's the end of three with the score 17-10 miami back after this message in a word from your local station you're watching the nfl on cbs we're starting the fourth quarter [Applause] with time down the middle found his now victor cruz for a first down across midfield and we can talk about the possibility that this never should have happened dan well and we'll get to that here's victor cruz working against his miami zone and boy did he find a soft spot right there between the linebacker cameron wake with the inside underneath coverage and then jeremiah bell deep but the pass before that which was really completion to mario manningham actually was an incomplete task this is jacob let's go back to that play which was the last play of i mean we wanted to show it to you but the giants are up over the ball and snap it so quickly watch mario manningham he never gets a chance to put that ball away and it's going to come out and he did not complete the process of catching the ball the dolphins did not challenge that i think in part because it was going to be third and nine but you know it would have been third that was what a six yard completion right so it would have been third and 15. i don't know why they didn't challenge him jacob to the 40. [Applause] i mean the dolphins saw that replay during the commercial break and why tony sparano didn't choose to challenge it i'm not sure it was up during the break multiple times so you know their coaching staff saw it up in the booth we would have loved to show it to you but we had no choice the giants were up over the ball and snapped it the second we came out of commercial so now manning looking at a third and three at the miami 40. eli manning doing such a good job of getting everybody involved in this massive game he's going to his running backs his wide outs and and he's given ballard a chance ballard had that one drop on that scene pattern but for such a big guy i mean ballard weighs 275 pounds he shows a uh a niftiness and generally some nice soft hands out in space another guy who had some basketball in his background at the 21-yard line by kevin burnett kevin burnett a free agent signee from san diego trying to complement carlos dansby on the inside and that was that was quite a tackle right there that's the way you knife in and take somebody's legs out over the years wow bradshaw back there on the taping that foot up maybe he's going to see if they can tape it well enough that he could come back in the game second and 14. [Applause] very short pass over the middle and that is complete everyone you talk to there is nothing but a huge upside for victor cruz well tom coughlin told us it's just a process for cruz every week he sees something that he hasn't seen before uh you know he's he's got such great quickness ultimately he's going to end up being their steve smith their their slot guy eli manning said he's crafty and you can't teach crowds no but it's just like almost every week that goes by they give him a little bit more here's a big third and seven for the miami defense out here to where where run out of bounds at about the 11 yard line and that's a couple of yards short of a first down about three yards short to be exact well tom coughlin i think is gonna go for the field goal and that's that's the right call you you put three points on the board a lot of time left in this game almost 11 minutes from 25 yards out this one will be from 29. 10 37 to play in the fourth 17-13 miami nfl on cbs [Music] our halloween humor knows no bounds coming up later on letterman know if we could just get a little work out of it would be great along with our producer mark wolf and our director bob fishman greg gumbel dan dierdorf coming up on 10 and a half to play here in the fourth quarter tight game miami by four steve slate from the goal line to the 20 and brought down about the 24-25 yard line we'll take a break and then it'll be miami on offense autotrader.com now compare new and used cars side by side at bud light the official beer sponsor of the nfl here we go and by chrysler not many games this season with no turnovers only four to be exact we've had none so far here today ten and a half to play on the fourth quarter first down miami 25 and this is reggie bush running hard today to about 27. well if ever this giant's defense was the force of three and out this would be the time to do it chris kanye's he got up there he's a little fired up let's see if they can ratchet it up emotionally here a little bit meanwhile for reggie bush a season high 13 carries a season high 102 yards rushing more than a locket penalty markers fly with a catch made by brandon marshall well did brandon marshall push off there was a lot of contact there she did corey webster and brandon marshall and they're going to get marshall for shoving off [Music] past interference offense number 19. penalty [Applause] we talked earlier about what a physical receiver marshall was webster running with him wanted running with him whoa i didn't see it there [Applause] the left hand got up on the shoulder pad of webster from that angle there's no question he had the left hand on him but i i didn't see webster's body move that's sticky technique yeah i didn't see his body move is this as if he was being pushed the giants will take it it's second and just got rid of it it'll be third in 18 meanwhile mike pouncey with the neck injury is on the sideline and ryan cook in his sixth season of new mexico has taken over chores at center third and 18. you see right next to him is garner and he's not the normal left guard he's taking the place of richie incognito who couldn't go today with a bad ankle so a lot of newbies there in the middle of the dolphins offensive line bush to about the 22-yard line and here comes the punting view well the the defense got helped by that offensive interference call against brandon marshall but they they did what they wanted to do they're forcing a a punt and there is mike bouncy on the dolphin sideline yeah he and his brother marquise how uh how talented are those two guys marquise of course the center for the pittsburgh steelers came out a year ago the twins are something else aaron ross back at his own 30-yard line low kick returnable penalty marker is down on this side of the field ross about the 41 to 42 yard line let's check the flag on the near side [Applause] the flag is actually on the boundary outside the playing field ahmad bradshaw back on the field and ready to spring back into action he's being a [Applause] gamer they're gonna check with tom coughlin on this call here's ron winter player out of bounds bring a kick on his own number 49. five yard penalty first down so with that we take a timeout 8 28 to play that statistic right there is probably not great for tom coughlin's blood pressure but such as the life of a head coach in the national football league ahmad breitbart in the backfield takes the pitch and is down at about the 48-yard line this week dave's all-new with ben stiller and cis star mark harmon and tomorrow jesse eisenberg followed by the late late show with craig ferguson only cbs and they wonder why we have such great ratings today's multitasking works seven days a week well the one thing that tom coughlin does know about his team is they know how to finish that's what that's what winning teams do and in this situation in the dolphins finish this is bradshaw bradshaw to the 40 with that over to our nfl today studios jb 24 unanswered by baltimore shannon anything that starts good in baltimore starts with the defense suggs gets the pressure jamil mcclain comes down with the pick baltimore has the lead jb 24 unanswered 27-24 back to greg gumbel and then deardor all right guys thank you very much meanwhile first down giants out of bounds at the 22 and another first down boy you called it greg miami unable to generate any pass rush at all outstanding job by the giants offensive line eli just standing there and standing there and gives hakeem nicks all the time in the world to shake loose from sean smith check it out i mean a four-man rush from if you want to call it a rush that was just snuffing them out this is bradshaw and randy starks took care of that one right off the bat instead of heading up field randy starks just sliced right back into it we got the one good run on this drive from bradshaw but again this game has been eli manning and his ability to move the ball through the air already he's thrown the ball 40 times in this contest well there's the rookie again jimmy wilson he's there with mario manningham manningham wanted the call to go against miami well it's manningham coming back to the football that's pretty good play by the rookie darn right it is he he doesn't have the left arm he's reaching around trying to knock the ball away and it act the pass from manning actually makes it into manningham's hands that's that's just really good work by jimmy wilson let's give the kids some props when they're due third and 12. manny down the middle got his man inside ten inside the five touchdown victor cruz [Applause] well once again eli manning able to stand in a very comfortable pocket he's able to step up he's got great line of sight and wide open with victor cruz and then will allen just with a missed tackle i mean here comes will allen and again he just got him high slid down couldn't wrap up victor cruz nice run after the catch extra point is good for the first time today the new york giants have the lead it comes with just under six minutes to play in the fourth quarter victor cruz on the receiving end of the touchdown pass 2017 giants fell on cbs is sponsored by e-trade investing unleashed [Music] and by state farm for auto home life and banking get to a better state [Music] i think it's safe to say the mood has changed among the giants faithful [Applause] with 5 58 to play here in the fourth quarter they lead for the first time today 20 to 17. well we talked earlier about finishing closing the deal a big big test here for the dolphins steve slate from the three lots of running breaking to the outside back inside across the 40 and a terrific return michael cohen with the tackle well first let's go back and take a look at the touchdown victor cruz is right here in the slot willa allen has got single man underneath two safeties deep but will allen just can't stay with victor cruz watch as he goes into the middle he turned allen all the way around and then to top it all off he can't make the tackle and then victor cruz at the end a little dance for the folks back in patterson [Applause] 42-yard kickoff return has matt moore set up at his own 45-yard line at the line of scrimmage no gain it'll be second and 10. and this is where this is where this pass rush of the new york giants [Applause] as we move into passing situations this crowd here starting to sense a little bit this is a town that has appreciated great defense from their giants over the years this is bush no place to go jason pierre paul well doing a little more than just getting after the quarterback jason pierre paul almost gets his football away from reggie bush take a look at number 90 right there you know he fights off the block of the fullback who he almost gets that ball he's got a hand on it and reggie bush fights like heck to keep it and right now the crowd is saying release the kraken miami looking for its first first down of this fourth quarter moore can't get away justin tuck all right take a look at it there's stuck 91 coming into the middle that's kiwanuka coming in there kiwanuka is the first guy there and kiwi kiwanuka ends up around the legs justin tuck the second one in gets him around the upper body they'll probably end up splitting that sack [Applause] field once again update time across the river to jb houston capitalizing on blaine gabbard's second pick ariane foster doing what he does getting the ball into the end zone they get some breathing room jb 21-7 now over the jags houston looking to ties franchise's best start at five and three back to greg and dan thank you guys ever since owner bob mcnair issued that little challenge to his team they've responded pretty well houston texas well aided greatly by the fact that peyton manning's not playing and the colts who've owned that division but take a look at that the dolphins minus seven yards for the fourth quarter well it was a three and out the giants d did their job how can the giants take the air out of the football and get a couple first downs and close it out brandon jacobs is in the backfield remember miami is down one time out remaining in this game jacob might be an illegal formation illegal formation offense number eighty-three five-yard penalty repeats first down you are a soothsayer well you got to cover up you got to be up on the line of scrimmage you can't leave one of your offensive tackles exposed he's an ineligible receiver and doesn't sound like much but if you're not up on the line that's an illegal formation so first and 15 now for manning kevin burnett who has been all over the field today tonight on 60 minutes what did bernie madoff's family know about the biggest financial fraud in history you'll hear it all when his wife and son break their silence on 60 minutes tonight only cbs there's mark herzlich over on the giant sideline special teams player of the rookie from boston college he'll be on 60 minutes later this evening what a what a fantastic story meanwhile very rare form of bone cancer back in onai missed your whole season and bc came back and played all last year now trying to make a goal within the nfl with the giants hakeem knicks limped off the field after that last play he's on the sideline manning throwing incomplete behind victor cruz the intended receiver so the giants want to squeeze the air out of the football and run off some clock they get a penalty on the first play it stops the clock and now two incomplete passes that stop the clock this is this is putting air back into the football for a team that only has one timeout miami's got to be looking at the last couple of snaps is going man this is exactly what we needed nick's remains on the sideline number 12 gerald jernigan third round draft kick out of troy on the field to the 25 yard line not nearly enough and the giants will have to kick well i complimented the giants defense and what they did forcing miami a three and out and now the miami defense turns right around and does it to the giants and miami uses its third and final timeout to stop the clock with 347 to play now they were helped a little bit because the giants uh the giants played along they they did everything they could to use as little time as possible [Music] tom coughlin's got to be upset about that tony sperano you know he was delight a delight talking to him and the things that he's been going through you know they jumped on him this week about his house being up for sale and he says well oh by the way you know they they chose to ignore the fact that it didn't for sale for quite a while now he and his wife want to downsize and he listed it six months ago but he's right he said you know this wouldn't have been a story if it wasn't for the plate that we find ourselves in he's right about that but it makes it sound you know you can twist it make it sound like he lifted it last week that's reggie bush standing back at his own 35 to return this punch justin trio well that's a heck of a heck of an effort by justin trion now this is this is wrapping up and you know what if you if you lose one leg grab the other and he has just not given up as much as reggie bush is trying to get out of that he is in the trap and can't escape so here is what matt moore faces 3 35 to play in regulation the dolphins a field goal would tie but they are at their own 16-yard line and have no timeouts remaining oh what a catch by devon bess well he's best is working against aaron ross and there's aaron ross had pretty tight coverage but no awareness of where the football was that was nice concentration by devon bess and an even better throw from matt moore now from the 40. as we come up on three minutes to play well that's what this pass rush is supposed to do you know it's a passing situation you're not playing the run there's oc split all the way out to the left and he just hammers into jake long jake long playing an outside pass rush and that was just a fantastic effort by human europe on slicing back to the inside loss of 10 second and 20. more look out well this crowd that this stadium has been watching this for years for decades and boy do they this is where the reputation the rubber meets the road [Applause] the dolphins have lost 20 yards and two plays more he's gonna want to get this one off before the two-minute warning and he does little pop over the middle to hilliard kill you wrapped up at the 28-yard line by kiwanuka and we'll get two minute warning at a minute 54. [Music] the miami dolphins facing a seemingly impossible situation no timeouts remaining they're down three and looking at a fourth and 23. they are at their own 27-yard line and matt moore needs the 50-yard line for a first down more down the middle intercepted picked off by corey webster webster down the sideline and that'll put a count on this game for the new york giants well you just sensed that matt moore was going to try to go to his go-to guy brandon marshall and corey webster has been on him all day and webster just undercuts the route and makes a pretty routine interception but it was a smart play more looking all the way for brandon moore and brandon moore's bracketed safety's deep and you know webster knows he's got help over the top and he just comes right underneath and he reads matt moore's eyes and goes right to the football cory webster is having some sensational season to this point for the giants [Applause] his third interception of the season [Applause] keep in mind he's on the other team's number one receiver every week [Applause] a reminder we've gone back to the studio for the nfl today update presented by verizon and of course miami with no timeouts and you know you you you just i know there's no pity in this league but there's no quit in the miami dolphins either they they acquitted themselves well today they they really competed they gave great effort they're playing for their coach you know this simply if you just want to boil this down to the simplest statement the more talented team won this game but it wasn't because the giants expended any more energy or put in a greater effort that did the dolphins i want to remind you the executive producers of the nfl on cbs with sean mcmanus and harold bryant today's game produced by mark wolf directed by bob fishman the senior producer of cbs in the nfl today is eric mann the nfl today directed by bob martinez coordinating producer of the nfl on cbs lance barrow the coordinating producer of cbs sports steve karasik the associate directors of today's game ryan galvin and brian sealing our broadcast associates brian jagota and brad chen our technical director mike tiffey and the audio supervisor kevin little are statistics provided by joe castellano and andrew the puzzling and our spotter michael gluck and with that the new york giants will go to five and two on the season and greg we'd like to send a shout out to one of our videotape operators jeff morena who's not with us and uh is ill and get well soon jeff we miss you tom coughlin and his friend tony sperano shake hands at midfield and the miami dolphins will face one of those tough flights home oh and seven on the season our final score the giants 20 miami 17 for dan dierdorf and our entire crew greg dumble saying so long from metlife stadium in new jersey many will see tom brady and the patriots against ben roethlisberger and the steelers coming up next the nfl today presented by verizon we'll take you to new york for scores and highlights after this
