game for the Falcons tonight Chris first let's talk about Aaron Rodgers you could hardly have a better first quarter of the season put it in museum put it in a time capsule you have any adjectives for me about phenomenal you know when you take what he did in the playoffs last year and match it with what he's already done so far this season I think you have to say he's the best player in football right now and it has been a long time since I've answered that question with any name of Peyton Manning or Tom Brady good adjectives phenomenal any prepositions no ifs ands buts about that oh you're a clever guy like that now let's talk about the Falcons the one Achilles heel for the Packers thus far has been their defense giving up a lot of points their pass defense second worst in the league through four weeks how did the Falcons exploit that tonight well they're gonna have to hit big plays there's no question they have to match points with the Packers and what they can do but it's how you go about that is so important I think they have to pound the football with Michael Turner inside and then when those big plays present themselves then take your shots throughout the National scratch to my floor defensive John Abraham out with a groin injury he'll be replaced Thank You Michelle and that's very big and there is Biermann because one thing that like Smith the Atlantic coach said has been got to be able to pressure Aaron Rodgers which is going to be a lot more difficult to do without John Abraham with the groin pole in the lineup tonight Aaron Rodgers expect even not to put a lot of pressure on him but the drop seven and eight back most of the times he goes back to pass will see Mason Crosby to kick off Eric wheeze when the best return men in the this season to run it back the cost though we see pick off those through the end zone [Applause] so the Falcons now come out Matt Ryan has done well in regular season outings against Green Bay and those two games as you can see three touchdowns one pick won them both however in January in the playoff game when it all counted as you can see one touchdown two interceptions a 69 rating and the Packers sacked in five times and route to that big win [Music] they start with Joe Hawley at center in place of the injured fewer and on the ground Michael Turner of the middle of a couple where you know it's we talked about in the open a little bit you've got to stay with this running game it's who the Falcons are Michael Turner power football play action off of that problem is you've got some big guys in there that are pretty hard to move in BJ Raji and Ryan Pickett Jerry's win made the tackle there so you have to be able to establish that if you're the Falcons to stay in your game [Applause] the defensive leader his stapler four years the outside and clock is able to finally tackle it but the 29-yard lies the falcons put themselves in a third and one situation now they pull Garrett Reynolds around here this time for the lead to get the full back in front also get the wide receiver cracking down inside so this is exactly what you're going to see Michael Turner in a sort of a bizarre status lost yards on more of his runs this year than ever before a much higher percentage and that's probably the strangest thing I saw in the Falcons coming into this game it usually does not about once every six is that they play sort of a nickel set despite the fact that the Falcons were in there with two tight ends in the game that's usually when you see more of the base set but here we have two tight ends and because they want so badly to get Charles Woodson up there and sort of that linebacker position they take one of the backers out and can they maintain out of that set defensively turn to the running back on second down and nine and Michael Turner tradin o8 around a corner he goes for a first down before he is pushed out of bounds he broke out of a charles woodson would be tackled and then thrust out of bounds after a gain of 15 by desmond bishop and charles woodson is one of the best tacklers from the secondary standpoint but Michael Turner is enormous and so even one of the best tackling corners in the game may not get that guy on the ground so that's the matchup you're hoping for to get Michael Turner on a defensive back that time Turner what five ten in about 247 and he is the full-back Mihaly in the backfield in this set every day 48 yard line off the play fake and then the pass is thrown under Matthews put the heat on and let's take a look at that green baby when peak pocket craisins the police effect could be a first down Harry Douglas on the outside third year wide out out of Herman Williamson Mike McCarthy has lost his defense yield a third consecutive first down on the 13 yard picked up on third in the law Williams on the outside typically is a bump-and-run guy but he's got a bad shoulder so that time he played off and Harry Douglas was able to rub off on the guy inside Julio Jones and able to pick up the first down Jacquizz Rodgers be looking for Oregon State he's the running back here whippets adjoins the looking from Alabama and going to the the draft Turner gets taken down the bachelors a great tackle slicing through the block II was Desmond Bishop second down you know Desmond bish have had such a good game last week he ends up with the game ball a week ago he keeps making plays like this he might get another one just sees the gap and shoots through there but like Michael Turner had a chance the bishop was there to make the stop second and 12 good opening drive for the Falcons this would be their 11 to the outside Rogers is close to a first down before he's forced out of us Harry Douglas threw an ice block you know all the talk was about picking up Jones in that first round but then in the fifth round they were able to pick up Rogers and Thomas Dimitrov the general manager felt that was a steal he's only five six weighs 196 had a sensational career at Oregon State when you're that small you get hidden behind the lineman that's a great point out so many times defensive players especially those linebackers when you get a smaller player like that and they're gonna have an illegal substitution now too many guys in the huddle [Applause] the last guy off is number 22 you know he was the 12th it's one of the problems you get when you play young players is sometimes you try and speed it up a little bit and right now the Falcons are trying to lock in the Packers and some of their defensive personnel grouping so they can't match with them and unfortunately dr. ends that are really more like wide receivers and linebackers trying to cover them down the field sir michael finley is just a superstar wasn't even really playing on the team what season ago due to the cover guys for the Atlanta Falcons this time he gets Jordy Nelson squared up and it's in and makes the play that's what they're going to have to be able to do you know you can't double team all these great weapons the Green Bay Packers have but occasionally you have to have somebody make a play and I think Grimes will get more single coverage than anybody tonight nine balconies to go to the this time working against Clay Matthews so much of this offense is the cutback runs and if you can get Matthews running one way and just momentum take them it's a great block [Applause] to the 26 yard line where he's tackled by say infusing Jones has come on very very quickly over 100 yards in each of his list two games at 11 receptions last week gain of 16 here say a Peyton Manning is the best at running an offense at the line of scrimmage but this Matt Ryan is not too far off he is Bates in great checks the last few games last week against Seattle some really key ones what [Music] [Applause] they're already - they're long times starting center Todd McClure and Brett Romberg comes in to replace him say that Charlie Woodson rolled up on that knee ankle not sure exactly what the injury is but now the lane of Falcons getting a little thin on that offensive line Todd McClure they're starting Center already out Joe Holley replaces him now Romberg comes in for Reynolds and an offensive line that's really been playing so well so far now gets tested so McClure who's been a mainstay here for 13 years and on second and four Ryan just gonna let the clock tick down and they'll change ends with the neck from on Williams they're great bump and run corners had a shoulder so he's had to adapt his game so this is not the same pack of defense we saw late in the season that made that run to the Super Bowl championship when things with Woodson pointed out in the shell at the top those they have 11 take away is caught on the outside by Allah why who is for the only touchdown of the game third down and two for the Packers one of the things that was so frustrating for the Falcons in those games last year there had to be six or seven times in there games that they had three runners rushing at Aaron Rodgers and Aaron he was going to take a massive hit and somehow escape and somehow made so for tonight they third down two Green Bay they can buy the Packers 14 to nothing Atlanta if Sunday night the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night to the third and key here as you can see to the fourth week where right in the lead on third the rebates on 3rd and cue [Applause] and he shovels it off to the full-back Boone who takes it up to the 30 yard the safety valve choice at the John and it's a first down for the Packers now there just doesn't seem a lot to get there and Rogers that time Clifton putting no weight on his leg coming off the field marshal Newhouse goes to left tackle and they bring their rich wand and then right tackle Clifton ends up clicking the heels of his guard TJ lang and then gets pushed back into his other foot and somewhere in that mess ends up getting hurt and they're really I think if you had asked Aaron Rodgers who's the number one guy that he would like to keep protected this year he probably would say Chad Clifton at this point he's got people not so much the pressure is put on and complete so now they can put the Falcons can more pressure on these you got Newhouse the second-year guy who started the game right tackle going to left and there goes Clifton back to the locker room and Sharad their number one draft choice and right tackle well now you start protecting your edges to try and help your tackles and stunts come inside there and your get speed on the stunt communication on the offensive line Sookie now they've got marshal Newhouse of their plan left tackle where he hasn't played they've got the draft choice Jerrod at the communication is going to be all fouled up now for the batteries [Music] Weatherspoon setting up a third and eighth it's just so significant now because if we're the Atlanta all of a sudden there you go our past was we're not going to try and blitz Aaron Raj scheme changes now at this offensive line has and send a little prize the dynamic has flipped from the beginning of the game there [Applause] the catch is made Gregg getting down the sideline Brits Owens was chasing them it's a game of 39 the Packers have a first out of gold well it gets set up with the protection you're going to take one of your most talented receivers here's your michael finley and help on the pass rush and then they start picking on the other side with their best receiver Greg Jennings going against Chris Jones they warm out a huddle now from the floor on first Anatole [Applause] five why a timeout is not taken by it Atlanta very low hover in Atlanta with Mike Smith taking a timeout Aaron Rogers sees the whole field watch him go through all his progressions looking off buying a little time because he knew he was looking for Jennings coming all the way across the field when you get your fastest guy and I think that Greg Jennings is probably their fastest guy one on one to take advantage check in with Michelle well Falcons safety William Moore out out with a left shoulder injury he is questionable he has nowhere near his helmet he came into this game with a neck injury meanwhile left tackle Chad clifton for the Green Bay Packers hamstring injury he is doubtful remember Mike McCarthy told us that the lockout really hurt his offensive lineman the most and now there not a big one Jane Sanders is the guy back in similar places more at safety its first at his goal now seven and a half to go in the first half by 14 [Applause] and it gets about half the distance near the two he goes in the second down a goal that time to Michael Finley not quite as successful blocking but for these two tackles now playing opposite positions a lot of different things come into play now so Marshall Newhouse who is making his first start on the road has to switch from a right-handed stance to a left handed stance and they're just trying to put Derek's rod in the best position possible SWAT has made some progress but he was a failed experiment at guard earlier this now back to his natural in that backfield and down he goes and it's only could do the whole night on the football so are the weather school [Applause] the blind sign and rises to the very end that just make traded third goal the DJ Williams right here in the backfield probably is supposed to pick him up he looked inside first peek for just a minute and that was just enough for Wetherspoon to get around their Wetherspoon has really picked it up these coaches have said [Music] [Applause] defense figuring things out on the field coming back to the sideline made a huge difference late the Falcons had not had a sack since opening day [Applause] [Music] under pressure Danny goes again the fifth sugaring of the it's that site worth that about the Center for Crosby field goal yeah but you really can't put that on the offensive line the protection was gluten not beer but Aaron Rodgers had to try and buy time Syd berry on the outside really gets blocked by Sherrod takes him to the ground the Rodgers just couldn't find any space and you wonder if Aaron is just questioning this protection a little bit of 32-yard [Applause] and Crosby tacks on Green Bay's first points of the night so Clifton leaving a big deal and that would figure 14 to three Atlanta this is Sunday night very important early season game the Falcons two and two already in the city one sample lost today but they're three and two and they've already beaten Atlanta 14 to three Falcons and they're going to get the ball basic Crosby we you're the such from Syracuse yet somehow spoke with a vaguely southern drawl part of what you might call an unusual personal style he was a progressive who broke ground with the hiring of Hispanic and african-american coaches and a high-ranking female executive but he was also petty allowing personal vendettas to undercut and then drive away significant figures like Marcus Allen and Mike Shanahan while his once great franchise slipped into disarray he was compassionate and generous and sought no public recognition for his many acts of kindness if he liked you he was also great company but if he got on his bad side for whatever reason watch out he was simultaneously a visionary who influenced the game on and off the field and a throwback will hung on much too long perhaps because as he himself acknowledged he had no real life outside his family and football Don Shula once said of his old adversary when you call al davis devious he considers it a compliment for his part davis who
