2011 Chinese PLA Type 11 Individual Soldier Self Heating Food Review Meal Ready to Eat Tasting Test

[Music] this is a Chinese people's Liberation Army self-heating food for individual soldiers it weighs 1 lb 8.2 o or 685 G and it contains 1,110 calories check that out Navy military special food trial production Department real deal it's the most widely used second language English it's common on rations and this one this is pretty much the type 11 it's just before the type 13 would be another code name for this thing February 20th 2011 came in three different menus just like the type 13 breaks down to about 40 g of protein 38 G of fat and 158 G of carbohydrate 4,646 K of energy that translates again 1110 calories this thing right here predates the type 13 and type 18 that's the newest of this type of ration that China produces they got a ration for everything let me tell you they have iron rations emergency rations that are smaller that contain the same amount of calories as something like this but without providing a hot meal it's just compressed food bars pickled vegetables and you know spam type Meats they even have a ration for hypoxia to combat altitude sickness and it is a strange like mysterious jelly bar then you have this thing which is a paratrooper ration the type 11 turns into the type 13 only a couple years later with an inclusion of a beverage base and the mains were larger the type 11 it has a 30mon shelf life probably just [Applause] fine very straightforward check this out heat sleeve oh nice a sauce packet try laminate it's starting to delaminate but delamination does not always mean it's spoiled or anything it's it's a start of degradation could the oxidation to this sauce I'm most curious to see oh hey here's the little pre-measured you put water up to this and that's what you add to your f RH for a perfect activation it's like a couple ounces of water that you need to use that is a drawback for this it requires more water to activate this very likely double-sided oh yeah it sure is wow these things are really cool double-sided extra tough flameless rash in here with a heat sleeve on the outside and that's so you know it probably doesn't melt the surface of something else that it's on cuz it gets so hot it's almost too hot examine it briefly there will be like FR residue on this I remember how this is It's good to see one again it's been probably N9 years since I've checked this ration out wow look at that residue and it's just feels like chalk so rust that's see assorted fried rice 280 g a little bit larger of a portion size than your standard MRE look at this spoon and a little napkin at least they give you that much that over there not bad all right let's get this s on rre nice okay let's first start off by got to fill this thing there we go see how well this works after 13 years just set that there nothing yet it's probably a dud who knows maybe it'll work fine probably not there we go here here wait what a bummer the F FR is in NT salt magnesium and iron moisture got in years ago there's the assorted fried rice there's sausage fried rice it's about as good as it's going to get for this one there see what time it'll be filmed again these things were all opened up and eaten pretty much a long time ago not many type of Leons left unless someone has in their collection it's going to be cool to see we'll check out a couple more rations that spoon is awesome wow that's like a old school MCI spoon it's tough It's just too bad the FR FR is no good and these will always be like this yeah at that moisture content you know it still smells okay almost want to try some why they give you that napkin you need it I just is that a piece of ham in there let's check out that spicy sauce I'm just going to tear that at the notch cuz I want to know how efficient it is plus when I save it for display it'll look more authentic looking like a soy sauce here Savory spicy like almost like Gravy Sauce H sesame seed high fat content no rancidity look at that that is pure goodness you could have eaten it like a bar out of the pouch if you didn't have time to heat it that'd probably be a way to go get some real bites make it last longer too R has a high glycemic index it's like pretty much like eating sugar this will keep you in the game that's for sure nice look at that ham field operation food that's the classification of this stuff logistic Supply Department like their natic pretty much came up with some sort of compressed dry biscuit by the end of the Korean War I've never seen a picture by 1979 they came up with their first retor pouch Mains the Tye 761 compressed food bar ended up seeing actual combat usage along with the very first retor pouch Tech they were used by Scout Troops patrolling long range reconnaissance Patrol missions essentially here one sec oh and the only difference between that initial prototype retor pouch ration and later like versions like the type o9 self-heating meal is this thing has a flameless ration heater in it you can heat your food zes aren't always too reliable here one sec oh then there's this thing which combats hypoxia altitude sickness got this from a ration guy years ago he ate one and I got the other there were two in there as you can see look at that combats hypoxia because it has specific nutritional additions to it this product is developed using fr mation engineering technology it can significantly increase the body's blood oxygen saturation in Plateau hypoxic environments improve blood supply to the brain promote energy metabolism and has significant anti-hypoxic effects this product can be consumed by troops rushing the plateau and troops stationed on the plateau ingredients are anti-hypoxic fermentation broth red bean paste sucrose Etc ready to eat after opening the box one box at a time two to three boxes a day that's a nice sweet red bean flavor red bean jelly bar it is delectable a smooth wispy sweet sweetness tasting almost like a fruit bar like a fruit leather a little bit of like a prune flavor perhaps it's rich and slight malt too give you a quick boost of energy you'll actually want to eat it this is one of the tastiest little things I've tried out of a pla rations so far you all the people that climbed Mount Everest and then the ones that didn't make it you know this might have made a difference you know scenario where you're having to stay focused on some high altitude like cold climate might be might be rough you could probably mix that fermentation into something else but will the sulter be inclined to actually eat it is the question with this it would be no question they would eat it routinely along with their standard rash and it is adding additional caloric content supplementation in these climates that would require it probably helps with blood flow it's one of the greatest things I've ever eaten plus I haven't eaten much in the last two days that's why I mustered the courage to try out the other thing um still on the ropes about it actually this it's like the leather of a th000 fruits the flavor is mild yet complex China really does have a ration for everything that right there was pretty cool here let's try this out really dry and looks relatively unchanged here hold on one sec I got to show you the typo3 individual food for paratroopers comes in three separate units and a full ration the breakfast unit lunch unit and dinner unit totals out to 3900 calories three units this is the breakfast unit with the type 90 compressed food 523 2020 [Applause] okay it's right off the bat vacuum sealed pack of peanuts 60 gam a 30 G packet of a pickled vegetable mustard white sugar mono sodium glutamate chili powder sesame oil that nice plastic spoon seems less tough than the other one but who knows bit more bendable and you get a napkin that's nice look at this type 90 compressed food flour palm oil white sugar glucose and milk powder looking pretty good all right let's get this out on a tray nice okay let's first start off by checking out that pickled [Applause] vegetable this stuff right here is always good last out a good amount of time too usually look at that look at this spoon is that even normal look at that tip on that no that's not normal look jeez yeah got a Sten spoon for this one tape 90 is there a h who knows I think so wow these look nice they smell absolutely incredible this is one of the greatest smells it's like a shortening with like a malted grain cookie smell I just can't even describe it compressed food bars high calorie nutritionally dense let's check Che out these peanuts oh is it's concerning they look like boiled peanuts smell like boiled peanuts actually whoa let's check out this compressed Food Bar H very dense not overly sweet that's like a malted shortbread cookie these things would be effective as a general purpose survival ration type food bar this is the least thirst provoking like dry compressed Food Bar I've ever had to eat an entire biscuit you don't need even a Chase of water this is way better than they used to be they've improved on the flavor and the dryness they've increased the fat content which alleviated that made it taste better and they kept its shell stability right where it needs to be I mean this is a 4-year-old bar and it's perfectly fresh and absolutely fantastic you could eat it on the go easily get the calories down let's check out some pickled mustard salted pickled crunchy vegetable that is almost like kimchi or something but then maybe less complex kind of like a relish it's not spoiled it's well preserved boiled peanuts shelf stable thermost stabilized retor or TR lamin it's such a reasonable amount of moisture content that it was almost like a retor pouch but then vacuum sealed very much sterile nonetheless got to eat
