booth. I'm Joe. Terry Francona is coming right up a bit later Ken Rosenthal. Well the guys have been talking about the roster move that the Tigers have had to make already is they're down one game to nothing and that roster move is Magalie or Dhoni is is off the list. Not available. That means Delma young. Who has that strain. Blake and Terry who was so good in that division series against the Yankees is active. And that's a big deal for the Tigers against today's starter. It sure is. It might be a blessing in disguise for Detroit Delma Young was a hot hitter and he's got great numbers against today's starter compared to the rest of this team that has done nothing. As we look at last night and then think about today and the weather couldn't be any better. We had the rain out last night and the common wisdom around here is that's a benefit for Texas. You agree. I agree today. I mean the NFC Uganda factor if they played last night he would not have been able to pitch. Now he's available tonight and for multi innings but moving forward they're going to play four games in a row and both managers are gonna have to pick and choose when they pitch because they certainly can't pitch in all four games at least pitch effectively. Jim Leyland said it's a it's an advantage for Texas today but he thinks it's an advantage for Detroit moving forward. Let's move forward while we look back to game one. Two nights ago today's game is sponsored by MasterCard asking you to eat drink and be generous this fall and buy direct TV if you call yourself a sports fan. You got to get Direct TV Oh my gosh the weather is just glorious here in Arlington Texas on Columbus Day any thoughts on Columbus Terry. Yeah we're on. I have. I didn't know it was Columbus Day. Yeah. Welcome. Welcome to Columbus Day. And by the way today's opening pitch brought to you by Budweiser. Great times are waiting up grab some buds. And the Texas Rangers come fire it out onto this field with a one game beat up big lead and Derek Holland with that little mustache that he's been cultivating. He's ready to go and now magically he appears on the mound. Here's the Tigers starting lineup brought to you by Taco Bell. Think outside the box Austin Jackson Ramone Santiago slides up and Delma young his back. He is active because of the injury to Bagley or don't yet. So young battled bleak and all is ready to go. Miguel Cabrera the big threat and right behind him Victor Martinez with Raeburn Peralta Vila to finish up the lineup that Derek Holland has to deal with. Here are the numbers for Derek Holland. I don't know Derek. People around baseball realizes that you're looking at somebody who was a 16 game winner and who threw four shutout. He has got electric stuff. You're right. Unless you've been around the American League follow it. Not everybody knows who he is. His stuff is good. I mean he's going to touch 97 today breaking ball slider that game that is an out pitch. Ball is moving all over the place. The biggest thing is he's got to limit damage and just put up single runs instead of multi run in and he can get a little emotional at times and he needs to keep that in check and a little bit of a delay as the defense is open or something. Here's Josh Hamilton. Yeah. Can't have that 390 is home plate umpire today is here. It's Larry Van overworking his the NLCS or us being the ALCS Jim Wolff is at first field in cold breath it's second Jeff Nelson a third Tom Halligan down the left field line and the crew chief is down the right field line that's Tim wealthy off you go hand a ball down it in it'll be Austin Jackson Ramone Santiago and then Delmonico when the Tigers love to get a jolt of a start down one game to nothing on this beautiful day in Texas ninety five mile an hour fastball one and 1 Strike 2 See it's got a seam for Austin Jackson every time he looks up there's two strikes and I think everybody knows Jim Jim Leland included he's not your prototype off but when he does get on it makes the whole team different he struck out three times in game one and he takes the pitch up and away two and two three times in Game 1 eleven times this postseason one hundred eighty one time during the regular year ninety six from a guy who really doesn't strike he's being that big ball is six to one ninety three and a full count and when you see him in the tunnel there before the game out of uniform he looks like he's going from junior high to high school dummy he thought it was a batter and he walks a lead off man take a look at the defense behind Derek Holland and it's Murphy and Hamilton Cruz in the outfield saying look it's game worn around the infield belt for a Elvis and Shorty and counselor at second Mitch Moreland and first in Napoli doing the catching for Derek Holland it was a winner in Game 2 of the division series against Tampa Bay and the Rangers fell down 3 to nothing but Texas had a five run fourth inning and won that game showing bonds Santiago Tex ball one down and away and then not surprising at all. You know Jim Leland loves the traditional number two hitter kind of in the mold of Carlos and Plaxico Polanco play for a run not let Texas score first the 1 0 so after getting Jackson into the hole 1 and 2 Pollin has not been able to throw a strike in the counts to 1 on a guy that's giving an out with Delon Young on deck and they've all been fastballs and they're all missing on the arm side he's mixing his breaking ball yard and he's just having trouble get that ball forward Santiago looks down we'll see if the Tigers stick with the sacrifice that they want to get a little more aggressive start the runner and let Santiago sway instead to check on Jackson Holland did a great job there freezing the runner at first does he he wanted to go and because he held the ball a little bit long enough it kept him from running. Jackson stole twenty two. He's at just trying to keep Jackson close. Tigers were baseball's beat the Yankees are down one game to nothing and there is a basic through the right side. Jackson will hold and it's 2 on with nobody out for the Tigers down a game that'll bring him down manioc. And for more on what he's dealing with with his strained oblique we go down to Ken Rosenthal. So Jim Leland said today that the injury is not the oblique oblique and what he meant by that was that it's not an injury to his external oblique. That's the one that's much more problematic for a hitter it affects the rotation of your torso. This is to the internal oblique. That's more abdominal. And it actually affects his throwing more than his hitting you know watching him in batting practice. That looks like it's correct. He was swinging the bat. Great. Watch him in the outfield looked like he was a little bit tentative in left field pop three home runs against the Yankees in the division series 2 2 right. Ball jumps out of his park into right and there's a strike over the inside he must be hurting a little bit. I've never seen him take a strike one a little more patient. He's usually talking on the on deck circle. Here is no one to on nobody out late swing in and strike to having him in the lineup completely changes their lineup. It gives them a much thicker deeper look off their hands and out of play well they can bump Victor back and get Brennan back in the order of four or five. Jim Cleveland's comfortable. It just lengthens out the lineup and makes more work for the pitcher as opposed to Game 1 when without Dillman young they head Cabrera move up the third Victor Martinez fourth and then the lineup dropped off another ode to Derek Holland so young he's gone. The batter will be Miguel Cabrera on that last pitch where it doesn't bother him swinging because of the oblique or not he popped it up in a key spot on stay put. Miguel Cabrera stands in for for 18 this postseason when 1 4 3 Game 1 strike one and you saw how aggressive Cabrera was right there. This is a situation that Detroit wants so bad where they have to pitch to him. No no running no bases are open. They've got to pitch to him and get him out the 0 1 on deck as Victor Martinez. These were the top two guys during the regular season batting with runners in scoring position Martinez was one Cabrera too. Right behind him 388 Martinez three ninety four. What a good aggressive pitch though. That might be a ball but that's going to earn him that outside part of the play later on Steve Holland goes right to that spot back inside and Cabrera hooks it. Foul Derek Collin was part of a group of starters for the Rangers who totaled forty three wins Hogan doe took over when Tommy Hunter went down and then Harrison who's going to pitch the game for Matt Harrison Alex here Gano and this guy Derek Holland 43 wins now a visit from Napoli out to Holland with that runner Austin Jackson who's been at second watching these signs for a long time and that's what you see pitchers and catchers go out so often they may want to throw a pitcher without him put the sign down there flash a sign or not. To the right side that that'll be number two in the runners advance two out of the inning with a pitch to Martinez soon Roman one hundred three during the regular season. Terry Francona would you pitch to Victor Martinez right here first inning. You have to pitch to him. You don't have to pitch to him. I think managers are very reluctant to walk people in the game but you're going to see how they face him and if they give him something legitimate to hit why Victor so valuable he can go get a pitch. You can try to pitch around him. He can go reach a pitch and hit it somewhere. He's just that type of hitter. He can hit good pitching and he can hit balls and again within what you said. They can not intentionally walk in but they can try and in essence pitch around him. I think this at bat is going to show a lot to how they feel for not only this game for them but for the rest of the series behind him is Ryan Rayburn did come after Victor Martinez 76 mile an hour pitches fouled on the count one and one. We're seeing a guy that's been throwing almost exclusively fastballs in the middle 90s. Now he's got the open base he's going to ask people at a walking hit start at the beginning with a pop up and ground out and now a 1 1 pitch is hammered Victor Martinez would love to see another strike better pitch than the pitch before the fastball before got way too much on the plate. You're heading to count 1 2 and you're given one of the most dangerous it is too much of a chance of off the end of the bat. Martinez chance a walk and. And then three big bands taking care of by Holland. After a half at Arlington no school MLB at home is presented by flown A's allergy relief get 24 hour all in one allergy relief with flown A's today's game on Fox is sponsored by Taco Bell. Think outside the box. Buy a trade investing unleashed and by fiat beautiful day Max Scherzer is in the middle of it for Detroit Rangers starting lineup brought to you by Taco Bell. Think outside the box. It's Kindler Elvis Andrews banning the number two spot in Hamilton. Michael Young the D.H. Bell train. Napoli crews hovered in Game 1 Murphy and Moreland to lefties at the bottom for the hard throwing right hander Max Scherzer and if his warm ups are indication he's got some nerves going right now. He was throwing the ball all over the place bounced a couple to a villa his catcher who we talked to before today's game. There are times where this battery has to work awfully tough. The guide Max through a lineup. But he's got overpowering stuff. Strike one and he's got some arm action that gives a lot of deception to his pitchers. He almost goes right out of his jersey. Off the hands and a quiet Santiago hauls it in take a look at that delivery for Scherzer and the hills getting the same look as we are. You just don't pick up the ball right away and most pitchers like this are sinking the ball you know throwing 88 89. This guy is a power pitcher power spinner to demonstrate. I like that. Right up your alley one hour nobody on for Elvis Andrus it was 0 for 4 in game 1 and his 2 out of 18 in the postseason. Strike one as Scherzer was a part of that big deal with three teams a lot of talent. Swirling around and ending up in New spots. And it was Scherzer who was a part of the Diamondbacks who ended up in Detroit the Granderson deal and there's not a lot of in-between with Scherzer. I'm sure the Tigers are thrilled with what they're seeing early on because he's pumping strikes just like we spoke about but he wasn't better than his up Parkway Central High School in St. Lewis the former first round draft pick. The Arizona Diamondbacks had bounces in ball one Dave Dombrowski who was busy not just putting this team together this year but within the year. The acquisitions he made Doleman Young one of them and we've talked a lot about a winner in Game 5 the Division Series at Yankee Stadium the defense for Detroit's young Jackson Ray in the outfield. Within Peralta Santiago Miguel Cabrera around the infield and a field doing the catching for Scherzer one on one out for Josh Hamilton. And this is where the game speeds up right now because Texas is going to look to run. They've got dangerous hitters up. He's to have to slow this game down. It takes the mask off the face of a veil of strike one. This is usually the part where Tim McCarver is cringing sitting next to me watching a mask being knocked off a catch his face. What watching a villain walk through the clubhouse today I'm sure that's just what he needed. He looks like he's got 180 games. He just looks worn out. He does. He's cut the majority of the games. He's got a great job but he does he's. He was limping through that clubhouse. The amazing thing is he was hot with the bat and the month of September really the last two months of the season when his faith in the American League and on base percentage plus slugging percentage knew oh yes dad but he has won for 20 this postseason bothered by a bad knee. All that work looks like it's starting to catch up to him. Just so many more things to think about right now with a fast pace runner a dangerous hitter. And that's how the game speeds up on young pitchers sometimes just they have to be able to control the running game but still execute a pitch against a very dangerous hitter and who's going to score anyway. But if you watch on this throw you can tell that he can't get anything behind the throne. He tried to it looked like he was going to flip into the center fielder decide to throw in but he was going to score anyway. But you can tell that he's got to think before he reacts. That pitch was chin high to Josh Hamilton and he drove the gap in left center with 338 fouls it back and out of play How about the pitch that Hamilton just hit and they talk about being able to climb the ladder you better have a big ladder so strong in last year's MVP gets his third RBI this postseason was the ALCS you're just joining this series and haven't been paying attention. Beltran had that three homer game six to do it in postseason history. He did it and the clincher last Tuesday in St. Pete against Tampa Bay one down in a way. And early in the count he's thinking to do one thing and one thing only. That's it. That ball up by that scoreboard out there has become progressively gets late. He'll give it a little bit at the ball the right field but not right now year last year with Boston big year this year with Texas. That's on the outside corner one ball one strike listening to Michael Young talk about him today was fun. He says he doesn't show up to play the game he shows up the beach. That's a big compliment to him. Young said know some guys just show up. Adrian Beltre he shows up to win even with the issues that Michael Young had before spring training about how the off season when they've had no problem he's just able to cover so much of the plate. He pitched he today he can pull it for a homerun you go away with 94 and he rivals in the right field. Fair to say you would have liked to have kept him around with the Red Sox and you know what. He's he's more important than just his numbers just because of the things Michael Young said. He's a by year 80 million dollar deal and they squeezed a lot out of him in 2011. Napoli So the Rangers have already done this Scherzer would be Yankees could not do game 2 of the division series when he went six innings allowed no runs on two hits Verlander the starter in Game 1 Jim Leyland has stuck with his original plan at least to this point saying he will not come back early and work in Game 4 he's pretty adamant about that that's on the corner Berland has never worked on short rest the plan is for Justin to join us during the third inning down in the dugout something I know you as a manager would have loved but none of your guys would have done it at least not with a smile back at all those guys they want to talk to us here's a 2 1 pitch on the outside corner two to shares are trying to get out of this without having to deal with Nelson Cruz we talk about the depth of this lineup something the Tigers don't have even with the open base yet you're just like you have to face is serious because the next guy up is just as dangerous after Holland through twenty five pitches in the top at the got around hitting the walk the 19th pitch where Scherzer on three and two the three to a strikeout ends the ending but there was plenty of action tigers left to you wouldn't accept an incomplete job from anyone else why accept it from your allergy pills flown is sentenced nothing stronger nothing gentler nothing lasts longer flow days since a missed 24 hour non drowsy allergy relief Derek Holland went into and out of trouble in the first got around a lead off walk that's not easy to do and now he misses Hi with ball wonder Ryan Raeburn and in a matter of moments we're going to show you a personality piece on Derek Holland that will change your world I've never seen a starting pitcher give this much to the camera a couple of days before he pitches in a big playoff he didn't seem nervous. No maybe that's a good sign for the Rangers is that one misses up in two and one such a huge inning after you score to go out and have that shut down inning. Control left him in the first inning and now Rayburn went after the pitcher was up a bit. Fouled it away two and two Rayburn then Peralta hit 21 home runs during the regular season and a villa was twenty four years old as Harlan couldn't be a pretty good day. It's cool here in Arlington off the hands back and out of play. Maybe Derek was just excited about the fact that his birthday was coming up at the end of the week. He turned 24 yesterday. We got one starter that's trying to get a date a date. Yeah they get some things working their three 2. They have gone after Ball Four. He actually turned twenty five. On Sunday you know they can be a little quirky but when you're twenty five and throw ninety five they'll make you like him. Oh yeah. You'd have no wish you guys could do whatever they want. Times and most shutouts in the American League he walks the leadoff man for the second consecutive inning. This is how he acted way back when he was twenty four years old. How about that. I'm sure that's comforting to Ron watching over that dugout as not a ball for air as a fly ball in the center. Sandy there's more on Derek Holland getting them lined up. Well Joey he has an interesting pre start ritual the night before he pitches. He watches the same part of the same film every time the film is for love of the game. It's about a pitcher played by Kevin Costner who throws a perfect game in his last career start and actually is pitching for the Tigers. Now Harlan sets the scene for himself. It's right up from the time he prepares for the game to the time the pitcher takes the mound and then he visualizes himself taking over from there. He has never seen the film in its entirety and he says he won't until he retires Well he has that to look forward to. Think he has a crush on Kelly Preston. He wondered if anybody's ending for him. There is a swinging strike going to Vila just as we mentioned and this is an pick. This guy has yeah. I like that look even Kelly for us. It's interesting. VILA did such a good job especially the last couple of months of swinging it strikes and hit the ball left field and he's kind of gone away from that earlier in this series and even in the last series. Yeah. And I started to say it's it's easy to see why he's beat up he's swinging at some balls he wouldn't normally swing and he's seen some tough left handers to this is a left handed dominated rotation for Texas it's a rarity one right. Colby Lewis scheduled for game three tomorrow night in Detroit. That's off the hands down the I guess 1 won 20. Those balls drop foul instead of on the line but it's still a good approach. You know he fought it off he got jammed he may even have broken his back. But it's still a good approach or the bad has been confiscated by the bat boy. And now he's bringing it back. A deal is going haywire with sudden wonder boy was messy. He didn't break it but he didn't have it either. Count 1 and 2 that bad boy may be exhausted after making two trips out there aggressive hitters aggressive bat boys and a little grounder out in front of it all down to second is Rayburn Sure it's fun though well we get a chance to visit with them in the prior to the game we've been on the other side for so long. You don't get to know these guys to listen to his personality. Yeah. And I can tell just the way your face lights up around a villa you like him and Doug Fister. That was a pleasure. Watch and listen to that kid talk. He gets it. That was really fun. Brandon Inge now with two outs runner at second Tigers down by two and I've enjoyed our little chats with Jim Leyland who can be crusty from time to time but he even had a little smile creep to his face today when he's talking about Delma young. Hey he can play and play. You can't blame somebody else to play it if they play and maybe they'll get a hit. I think he relishes the spot they're in right now. People are viewing him as the underdog and he can get he can get intense. There is a 1 0 0 0 high to an all and hit 137 with runners in scoring position this year that was last lowest across the major leagues and the Tigers are asking for a hit and to his credit he went to triple play. Most veterans wouldn't do that. Now the count three you know and a much bigger threat in Austin Jackson on death but you're also making Brandon is a much bigger threat when you fall behind and he knows the fastballs come on four straight it's the second walk at the end and the third of the game for Derek Holland and now the time runs are on and Ron Washington doesn't have that same look when they were scoring two in the bottom of the 1st and we were going to break. That's what these pictures that he was mugging for. So cute two on two out for Austin Jackson it is nice though for guys to show a little personality and he certainly hasn't a little conference with himself as he gets ready to come set. Getting a sign from Napoli two on two out one up up and now Ron Washington not Mike Maddox is going to go talk to this will not be about mechanics. This is I think this is what's being aggravated right now watch almost pulled a hamstring getting the onesies he walked out he jogs back in the count 1 and 0 on Austin Jackson top 10 home runs during the regular season drove home forty five and hit two forty nine Hollande had him set up in 1 and 2 in the first and then walked in breaking ball it was a straight so off and pitchers are struggling with their command can go to their secondary pitch with their offbeat pitch to find their arm slot that's looked like he did right there Tigers need something from Austin Jackson the 2 1 3 and 1 and everything has been there he's barely throwing more strikes and balls and he's not far in the club you're right and his elevator but the one saving grace one is his stuff is electric and he has a chance to get away with it but if he continues like this it's going to be difficult three walks in the evening four already in the game you're gonna see that phone ring here in a minute sorry miss Mike Maddox jumps on it got a couple of long relievers one of them Scott Feldman might get the nod as we play here in the second but for the Tigers it's Santiago who is trying to make these walks hurt Derek Holland It is Feldman getting loose Santiago ball is what he can get over strike one What a play by and Kim's look to his right to flip out he was out and he goes over to another today's game on Fox is sponsored by Budweiser. Great times are waiting grab some buds. We move into the bottom of the second inning the Nolan Ryan statue and a good call out at second base by field in cold breath. You know what. Good play good tough play. Good call by a good part of a tough play to call. He was right on it. So Cruz leads it off and shoots wanting to right center to start the second here in Game 2. You know we're talking to Ron watching him for the game and he made the point that he may not hit in every game but if he runs him out there every day he's going to have a game where he carries his team he's already on top of the all time postseason home run list and Texas Rangers history now obviously with more games divisional round ALCS there's more opportunity although the LC Yes has been around since the Rangers have been here in Texas it's still seven home runs in the postseason and he got number seven on Saturday night. And they continue to throw that first pitch fastball that's on the inside corner too. David Murphy we give you our E-Trade stock watch. Nelson Cruz that's what he did in Game 1 and he's now standing in second with a double. Michael Young. Hard to believe I mean this is one of the game's best hitters period is to for 19 this postseason he'll be on the other side of that graphic before too. Yes he will. That's off the end of the bad and the shallow center and Santiago those Santiago Walton he come together and Peralta makes the catch. The taller guy makes the play and that's where they need him to pull the ball and at least if he makes it out make it productive out move the runner. Stead Moreland badge with a runner at second one out had a hit in game 1 2 4 13 this postseason did go deep against Tampa Bay in the divisional series. Such an intriguing young hitter. No he's power just hasn't found its way to the game completely yet. He has 16 home runs. There's a lot more in there nice block by a villa Alex who grew up in this game. Full name is Alexander Thomas Vila first name after Al Campanis. Middle name after Tommy Lasorda whose dad Al is the assistant GM with Detroit growl favela the Dodgers organization and he was the one that found all that talent in the Dominican. As Moreland is out in front as strike one foul Pedro Ramon Martinez roll on to see that Dominican Academy and so Vilas grown up around this game and boy as he blossomed here in 2011 an all star he's trying to help guide Scherzer around that lead off double. And you can tell he grew up around the game just when you visit him even for a couple minutes here's a 1 1 now he threw a good fastball into the lefty there but he hasn't been able to duplicate that. He goes in once and it's more for effect. And now the left hand hitters know they can sit out away from the plate whether it's fastball changeup and that's why he's struggling with left handers the 2 1 that's on the outside corner away from the hitter Moreland in the count two and two so you were looking for it but Moreland was not pretty good pitch and maybe it's off the plate but it's still a good pitch but my point is is they don't have to respect in as much as they probably should with a pitcher of his stuff he's gonna have to prove it to him and come in and come in again. Not only was Scherzer good in that game to start but then he gave an inning and two thirds of relief shut out relief from the clincher. Game five at Yankee Stadium at 3 to win had happened on Thursday night for two to continually or if they didn't even know if he was gonna build a pitch today. Thrown out to 90 feet just to see what his comfort level was. That rain out helped him by getting him an extra days right. I think Jim Leland felt like that rain helped them a lot more than people were led to believe. That's only as good as Scherzer pitches gave up two runs in the first leadoff double here in the second got a big pop up I was about to bring home a 3 2 to Moreland got the outside and a big strikeout for Scherzer Moreland thought he'd walk he did walk look at that with that to see movement and you get three four or five inches off the plate. Good luck home plate umpire is Larry Van O'Grady who seems willing to give side to side in this strike zone today I think I told Larry that a few times he can't yell at me. Runner at second to out straight. Why is he known as a pitcher's umpire. He said he'll give on the away side of the plate. He'll give three four inches. And again as long as they're consistent I think that's what hitters generally look for but then you look at that to see movement go along with it. That ball's probably not hit a ball Kinsley is trying to rescue that lead up double and turn it into damage runner at second to out and now two strikes on him. Kinsley popped up as first time to 30 30 seasons for Kinsley as we mentioned in Game 1 and he's only the third second baseman to have a 30 plus home run season. One hundred plus one hundred twenty plus RBI is runs rather and he joins Chase Utley and Rogers Hornsby on that list in the postseason he has been tough to retire runner at second to out backs down the right field line but into the seats he kept slicing still open to celebrate America's game with Chevrolet upload a picture of your youth player and you can win tickets to this postseason among hundreds of other MLB prizes being part of the Chevy centennial celebration and entered to win its Chevy baseball. Scott you know he's got that uppercut swing but he still manages to fight them off the right field and not just fight it off but hit it with authority that way blocked by Vila shares or a guy who is sent out to the minor leagues last year trying to get his control and his stuff in order and he came back finished last year hot and won 15 games tied for 10th most in the A.L. this season here's a one to what kids can can extend some at bats and get him in the hole do you think he got him in a place where you want him and he still continues to put strong swings Yeah and that's impressive for a guy who has to be considered a power hitter with thirty two home run I think this kid's quietly one of the best players in the game you had a pretty good one in Boston Dustin he's just not likable. Dustin is critiquing your every comment up here on I don't got four texts so you can hear it all. I don't think there's a baseball game that's ever been played or on TV. He doesn't watch he's about as much of a pleasure as you can ever run into and loves the game. He loves the game one ball two strikes on the Texas Second baseman on second to is over. Nice job by Scherzer to get around that leadoff double. Some images from around this beautiful stadium in Arlington as we go to the third inning game two to nothing Rangers Doleman young is first up dealing with Derek Holland who misses off Derek is one of three left handers in the postseason rotation for the Rangers they're led by their ace C.J. Wilson who is in the corner the dugout and kind enough to join us in the 2 nothing game top of the third inning C.J. 116 games you stepped to the front of this rotation and I know you have to be a little frustrated with what we've seen so far this postseason. You know for me personally I haven't been throwing the ball. I wanted to I feel like I was getting it locked in the other day but then the rain came and you know there's really nothing you can do about that. You have a retractable roof. Yeah yeah absolutely. How did you feel coming back after that that first delay crunchy you know. Not not myself but it's a weird thing. You know it's not it's not in your playbook. You think about what do I do if it's raining and how to get a grip on the ball or whatever but when you have to come off and for 45 minutes or whenever it's a little bit different. So I you know I had some adjustments that I should have made and I wasn't able to it was frustrating but we ended up holding that lead and that's all it matters it's gonna be frustrating for you guys in the dugout to watch Derek Miss eyes so much so far in this game. You know it's OK. Derek's got such a good fastball. He can get away with a lot of mistakes up and out of the zone as long he's gone up in the zone. You know him and I had a little talk in between innings and I just told him you know that he's keeping their hitters off balance for one reason or another so you just gotta mix and you know try to visualize that low low strike that's that's really where we make our money in the big leagues is down three balls two strikes Holland dealing with Delon young and he goes up to get it shoots it in the right now. T.J. what do you guys think of this little stash that Derek Collins got working on his face. Well it's not a big stash. He's not working on that for I don't know maybe two months or two and a half three months. I'm serious. It's like a since a trading deadline at least. So we acquired that back then and you know it's funny because I remember being at 24 I couldn't grow a mustache either really. So now I'm now look like a pirate. After nine days you know it's kind of funny. Here is Cabrera. How do you like facing this guy. I love it. McGill's actually one of my favorite competitors in all of baseball. He's always happy. He's always talking smack. He's looking over here from the dugout. You know if he dropped that pick after earlier and we're yelling rock and Adam and stuff it's great he's he's a good dude. Here's a pitch that misses down in the counters too I know you guys seem to have fun not just with your rotation but in general you guys keep it pretty loose down there. You have two minutes. It's a long season and there's a lot of stresses that come along with the game. There was a lot of pressure obviously from the outside whether it's your family or your friends or the fans and even and obviously all the media stuff. So we have to feel like we're we're a little family and if something pops up in a negative way then we're able to quash it and interior because you know we're all in it together. And it's really a good feeling to know that you got 25 guys on the roster that love you like a brother. Here's a shot in the center field it sounded good off the bat Hamilton got a little too close and it's a double with one out for him to go and see you go with this are you going to tweet about this experience at some point during the rest of the day. It's possible but obviously not during the game we have rules against that. Yeah I'm lucky we're lucky that it's October it knocks the balls out of here in July. Seriously. Yeah. I mean it carries like crazy out here right. Well you can see the flags right now or limp but you know usually when we get a little bit of a stiff breeze in swirls through here. Terry can tell you I've seen some balls carry over that bullpen wall that are a little bit cheap sometimes but that's just the nature of the beast. That's where we get the long infield grass to get those double play balls T.J. We appreciate it. Thanks for joining us and good luck next time. Thanks guys. All right. C.J. Wilson who is a leader of this staff and a 16 game winner during the regular season. Now the batter after the double by Cabrera is Victor Martinez. He takes a strike. He makes a good point about this ballpark in the summer. The balls carry so well to all directions and he's probably right that ball point was a homerun in July which sounded good coming off his back. I'll tell you it looks good doesn't his balance is amazing. He's still just 28 and seems like he's been around forever got back. He really really made his big splash in 0 3 when the Marlins won it all moved to Detroit from Florida in 2008. You know everybody talks about his weight fluctuating and this and that one year he has 330. The next year he has 340 I don't think it matters how much he weighs and he's and he's. And T.J. was right. He loves to play the game. He has a lot of fun playing. Here is an ode to Victor Martinez spoils it for Miguel Cabrera. It hasn't all been great he was arrested suspicion of DUI in Florida beginning of spring training and it was his second alcohol related incident. Within 17 months put away. Since that incident at the beginning of spring training seemingly has not been an issue to his foul back and out of play a former army major league outfielder Raul Gonzalez who is Miguel Cabrera shadow in and around the stadium away from the stadium like Johnny Marin is for Josh Hamilton had his own issues center fielder for the Texas Rangers. Go to the victors sitting in the hole here. But he lets the ball travel so much and he gets such a good look at it that he still gives himself such a good chance to have success even though he's in the hole letting a travel mean and getting deep leaving deep and getting a good look at him not committing to that in front of a breaking ball who's getting on top of the fastball. Said immediately that the ball hit the batter and Ron Washington is going to come out said Napoli didn't even chase it because he believed that the ball hit the batter which would have been a dead ball. And first and second while he was appealing the home plate umpire was appealing and Napoli I think thought the ball and hit the batter and he didn't even go after it. This is going to be interesting. They're bringing in umpires from the outfield hit his dad his pants if it hits his pants it's hit by pitch and would be a dead ball looks like his pants may have moved with this guy. Really. This is going to be an interesting call to see if they bring it rather all the way back. You got both managers in the ready position Tim wealthy is in the back of that conversation doing the majority of the talking. He's the crew chief but he's out in right field they'll be first and second while it's still at two nothing game and Jim Leyland wants to talk to wealthy the crew chief he didn't really go after it and that allowed Cabrera to score all the way from second base the pants may have moved in again just too hard but it looks like it hit his pants. How do you fold an umpire when they have a split second to get a right. And we've looked at it seven times so we don't know here it is again regular speed and this was Victor Victor and sold it a little bit also. And you know Umpires go on that. I mean if Victor doesn't sell it then maybe you're looking at a different outcome because Victor is in essence saying and hit me by going down to first base now. But the umpire right away appeared to check to see if he got Sloan and he maybe saved with two strikes on an appeal. The first base umpire was supposed to wait he's supposed to make the call not wait for the home plate umpire to ask. That might be part of his point here. Right fielder Mohammed Raymond his hand is saying we've looked at it a number of times I I'm sure we'll look at it again to see if that ball hit the pant leg of Victor Martinez he went down to we said Miguel Cabrera kept running and initially they were going to allow the run but they overturned the call and brought for a little go down as a hit batsman to put two on with one out the middle of trouble every minute he's right back in it. Rayburn walked his first time and now he's in the hole and two you know I guess when he thought breaking ball and just put the uprights with some of his legs you got to expect something bad to happen. Today all four four with runners in scoring position Rayburn could come up with something that you can rip a ninety four mile an hour fastball still on to. And here's where you see the difference in the two teams right now. Texas when they get on they're going to push the envelope they're going to run. And Detroit's going to have to get base hits or hit the ball the ballpark because they just don't run the bases like the Rangers rather at the lead man with Martinez behind the and as I say that they took the runner Cabrera is probably flattered helping getting loose again already up to 70 pitches because of the wildness here through the first two plus inning Jim leave him said Ryan Rayburn was the guy that could be dangerous sitting back there behind those two hitters in the middle and do some damage and that's what he did in the race as any conversation about being hit by pitch Rayburn cleans the benches with a shot over the wall in the left ballots. Johnny Peralta is Holland finally asked to pay for being wild hit Victor Martinez got ahead of Rayburn and then made one too good as Peralta Tex. Ball one high he actually followed the glove pretty well it just didn't quite get him far enough. That's on the inside corner the Count 1 and 2. Show major league hitters seventy five pitches in two and two thirds and it makes them more dangerous. Tigers lead for the first time in this ALCS and that's third extra base set of this sitting in jail for rotten staring it down turned it into two just getting in ahead of the tag of Ian Kindler another good call by fielding called Press Houston initially to see if he stayed on the bad put another run in scoring position in Holland will last at least one more batter with the left handed hitting Vila coming up with super slow mo some ended our companies really soft and now you're Fox I'm going to remind you of that wherever you are next. Runner at second one out three runs are a whole lot a Ryan Raeburn postseason home run he hit fourteen during the regular season Vila slow and that's it. Within Coming up Ron Washington is going to his bullpen in Holland with the four walks a hit batsman three extra base hits in this inning is finished Feldman coming in and Terry to make you proud your company fucks up the super slow mo on the double by Peralta. Tigers have a third inning lead so now Feldman into the action with two out a runner at third three runs home for Detroit batter is MJ who walked his first time up and Holland did not have a good start two and two third so far three runs on four hits for Walker no strikeouts a hit batter and a home run it was his inability to get ahead of hitters that did him in one go on strike looking for a two out RBI hit from Brandon Inge from twenty three runs during the regular season did anything for Detroit. Their first lead of this ALCS the hand of Apollo off the bat of Raber. Hand over the wall to the Tigers. After two and a half we go into the bottom up the third inning here in Arlington it's now Tigers with the lead three to so Scherzer gets the chance to work from in front and Elvis Andrus is first up it'll be Elvis then Josh Hamilton then Michael Young here's the don't want and that is a rocket into center and likely talk with C.J. Wilson of the Rangers in the effort to be fair and balanced. We go to the end of the other dugout and check in with the game's best. Justin Verlander thanks for doing this. Problem. Guys got to be on. Let's see this first. How's the mood down there with your first lead of this series now. Looks pretty good. You know we're always a confident team and you know somebody is going to come through for us. We knew it was only a matter of time so hopefully that got us off on the right track we continue going. JUSTIN I heard you earlier in the year around the All-Star break. You were kind of touting your your catcher you had some genuine affection and some admiration for him. Absolutely. You know come All-Star Weekend or around that time you know he was second in the voting and I honestly believe he should've been first in starting pitchers. They're calling the All-Star game and I did everything I could and platform and talked about him and you know thankfully gotten there and deservedly so. You looked at those numbers and everything. You know in my opinion he's the best but best catcher in the game at that point and still is. So you know I was just glad I could help him. How much politicking did you do the other night to try and come back in after the rain delay. Did a little bit. You know obviously I talked to skip some and try to get in here a little bit but you know whenever my number is called I'm ready to go I'm I'm preparing. Either way I'm praying for it either game for game five whichever whichever time My number is called I'm ready to go. Yeah and there's no mystery there. I mean you've said you want to pitch your manager who's been around the block four or five times says I want him in game five and that's kind of where it has to stay. Yeah. You know the division series everything. He got a lot of flack for not pitching me the bullpen in game five minutes and you work out pretty good. So he's got a pretty good idea what he's doing. Trust. But after this long season with all those pitches you throw more pitches than anybody in this game and you seem somehow to get stronger as the game goes on. You feel good. Yeah. You know I feel good and this is why I prepare for all season long. This is why I worked so hard in the off season for this time of year. You know unfortunately we haven't been here in the past five years. But I learned a lot from 2006 and how I need to prepare myself to be strong at this time. Well you're a good representative of a great team and we certainly appreciate you joining us. Thank you Joe. Guys thanks for having me. All right. All right counters two and one on Michael Young after a Hamilton flight out to left two out. Nobody gets off the end of the bat coming in to get it is off to Jackson see those dugout interviews aren't so bad with players Terry don't allow it to the guys those 97 shooters say they're not good at it and say I don't think they're that bad. Now Mark that tape to the Tigers after three today's game is sponsored by the all new Volkswagen shot. That's Das Auto. And by the U.S. Postal Service it's all in the mail. And Fox Sports is proud to support stand up to cancer in their work to fund groundbreaking research that helps accelerate treatment to patients. Strike one in Austin Jackson stand up for someone you love visit stand up to cancer dawg slash Fox Sports to learn more. Jackson has walked twice bought one up sees some hockey style playoff beards on the part of some of these players. Michael Young the designated hitter and Feldman we saw with Derek Collins been trying to do for a couple of months every pitch Feldman throws he's got movement to it whether it's in right there or away or slow breaking ball nothing straight. And out today's Get to a better state recap brought to you by state farm for auto home life and banking. Get to a better state Saturday night just before the second rain delay or don't you as was round out to end the threat and what was a one run game and it ended. Three to Texas. We're talking to Jim Leland today Santiago bought one and he was kind of voice what we were talking about. The counts 1 0. You've got a tough Lefty. You maybe hope your guy I'll take but you don't want to give him the tape. With one hour nobody on That's foul you were saying it in the booth. A.J. Brzezinski was saying it on the set that you bring a guy in. Who in the past has had control issues and we talked to Ron Washington and he said I went out there during the month of September checked on him on the mound. One time another foul ball and I felt his shoulder to see if there was any tension in there to see if he was being overwhelmed by the situation. He said I felt Don and I had I just think that as a left hand hitter you got a better chance in that situation to let him work his way behind in the count. But the saying that as a hitter and a guy with that much deception you don't want to fall behind do you like what Feldman is doing here since he's come in he's going to throw strikes he's going to move the ball and he gives them a legitimate chance to get deeper into the game. He was their long guy. They haven't needed him you know with playing the four games in a row and you get into your bullpen this early if he stumbles it's going to cause a ripple effect throughout that whole bullpen throughout. Nobody on Coleman Young is up on the count 2 and 0 if you're just joining us it's what Terry pointed out in our on camera prior to the game. Well it's an advantage with that rain out last night for Texas in Game 2 today. Now you're playing four in a row the three coming up in Detroit. That could work against that big Alexi Hogan dough factor that Ron Washington has in his book 3 0 they want to use a gondola all over the place. That's kind of the wildcard but if they use him one night that's going to be very difficult to use him the next night. I think at all let alone for some length that's in the center field and we'll carry to work by Feldman and with him getting ready for Game 3 and carry and the loving super slow mo. Here's some more. We go to the bottom of the fourth three two tigers shares are back to the Hill Adrian guilty a nice start to the ending Bell Trey spun off the played with Napoli and Nelson Cruz to follow and that was as close as what's this win weaving feeble or hard how you can't wait hard ok there's no fear there. One ball one strike RBI double his first time up Rangers got two in the first did nothing with a lead off double in the second and now trailed 3 2 after a three run home run by Ray Brown one away. Well sir we've been in the booth now two nights. You settled right in and you feel good about things and you're smiling so that's good. It's been fun having. Thank you it's been nice having me or you know you exhausted. Yeah. A lot of baby sitting. Yeah. Hey tell us about this game. I mean this thing turned with one swing didn't it. Yeah I did. But you could kind of feel like maybe it would. He wasn't commanding enough and with good hitters you better start pounding the zone. And it caught up to him talking about Derek Holland who could not get through three starter for the Rangers two and two thirds three runs four hits four walks a hit batsman in the home run. Feldman has restored order Bell train has grounded out in the fourth and now Napoli career high thirty home runs for one strike. Scherzer has settled in retired seven straight after that lead off double by Cruz in the second talk about a long year for a villa. A lot of work for Napoli and both guys had terrific years swinging the bat A.J. Kozinski is with us but he's caught more innings across the big leagues. AJ since 2003 so he knows what kind of a workload will do by the end of the year. Napoli take side 2 and 2 I mean your legs have got to be worn out some A.J. at this point. That's got to affect your hitting. Absolutely. Sometimes it's easier as a catcher. When you go into the training room to ask when they ask you what's sore it's easier to tell them what's not so at this point in the year because you're banged up and foul balls and I told Alex Vila before the game. He takes more foul balls and you catch I've ever seen in my whole life. There's another one. There's one right off his glove and that's just luck of the draw. I don't know I asked if he sets up different than the rest of us because he takes him in the mask off his glove off his knees and I know he's playing with a bang on me right now. It's gonna be tough for him to squat back there and he's played I don't know how many games in a row here. If you go back to September because I remember one point he was on 35 or 40 in a row got his tune and to keep AJ Brzezinski Well this is Napoli. Waits for the next in that's down in a way. Knox is a tough kid. And understand that they've played a long time especially the second half of the season without another catcher because Victor Martinez is banged up. Also this was earlier when it hit that little side wing and just took the mask right off the face. You can see it on his face. People always ask you. They always want to know how that feels and I wish everyone good could take one of those because they just don't understand and it doesn't so much hurt but it definitely startles you and it gives you a good wakeup call. Let me ask you this Tim McCarver always talks about the toll catching takes on your hands too and that that has to directly effect hold back. Absolutely. That's the biggest thing is your hands and mentally that's what people don't realize is mentally as a catcher you're in every single pitch. There is no high as a catcher as a right fielder as a left fielder might get one or two balls a game but as a catcher you're involved in every single pitch. One hundred and thirty that are thrown you're putting down fingers taking fountains the whole deal to pitch that. Napoli And he got hit by a good pitch by Scherzer ninety six. That's as hard as he's thrown with out. Nobody on the bat will beat Nelson and AJ knows this more than anybody. Good catchers they sacrifice at bats because they're babysitting that starting pitcher for relief pitcher during meetings even when they're when they're up to him. You know not when they're catching they just they lose at bats because they're trying to nurse him through innings. I can't tell you till you have one of the best obviously in very tech up in Boston for a long time. But how many times has a catcher your lead not an inning in your mind is thinking about it why you gave up a run ending before or why you got out of the ending before and you're not even thinking about how you're gonna try and get a hit. There's a one hopper hit damn good job by Scherzer bangs his fist into his glove and walks off the field still free to enter the fifth game to back him. This could be a local Fox station MLB at home. He's presented by flown A's allergy relief get 24 hour all in one allergy relief with flown ace for five and six hitters for Detroit. That means Cabrera Martinez Rayburn who's got the biggest swing of this game certainly the biggest for Detroit to this point three run shot to make it three two tigers back in the third and Cabrera has a double runs scored almost rode one out of here in the right center his last time up takes the ball over the Rangers pitching the starters and their numbers and Ron Washington is dealing with big advantage in his bullpen in this series they're good there are some pieces out there for Detroit that's good and heck with all the attention paid to Texas and their bullpen in Game 1 Detroit was right there with them and I think that's what Jim Leland was trying to point out today. They thought they about matched him any four inning. There just wasn't the swing and miss. But they were certainly as efficient. Here's a 1 1 pop up right side foul ball and out of play. Another thing Jim Leyland said as we go down to Ken Rosenthal on the field what did he tell you. Before today's game. Well Joe I don't want to say that he called Ryan Rayburn shot but when we asked him which of his less prominent players was most likely to make an impact. His response was immediate. Rayburn. And the reason he said was his power. That has happened in this game a three run shot in the third inning. Check swing by Cabrera count two and 2 next from Feldman inside a full count time called by Cabrera. Granted by van over the home plate umpire and this will be could be a dangerous pitch from Feldman to why the game's best Mr. Francona. What were your thoughts like Why. I thought it was a ball on tape I thought it was a ball not what you think. I think I disagree with Fox track. Hey it's unofficial look I still want your company. Now you're bailing on Fox learning with Victor Martinez stands in hit by a pitch and scored on the home run by Red Red Wine but again it's Dan over giving the outside portion of the plate maybe a little beyond away from the header and it's a pitcher follow and sometimes they deserve to be rewarded for that there's there's the officially cutest kid in the American League what's his name Victor Jose Martinez look at him I've never seen him without some demons and though that's the first time here is a 1 1 shuffled to his right and missed it and it's an error on Mitch you committed five during the regular season you know what Gorecki really missed it altogether he just flat out and there's Victor Martinez son he doesn't care if it's in there no deal that was either because of the there or the hotdog guy was going by one on one out in the batter we'll be Rayburn you have such a great relationship with that can't you actually enjoy the players kid being around the team you know Joe we had a rule where the kids could come in the clubhouse Raven pops it up office and say that kid it was a pleasure and he is talented he can do that he'll tell you to he'll tell you he's important switch hitter I here just like his dad he's he just he's the cutest kid I think I've ever seen look at Scott and I had never seen a 6 year old be more comfortable in the clubhouse with just shower shoes and nothing else on one on two out and the batter is paroled takes a pitch high football one Johnny doubled and was stranded his double basically was the end of the road for Derek Holland Holland last did you get the lefty next and that was it Feldman came on got in on ground out to keep it three two and it's still three two now in the fifth Feldman doing a terrific job right here and if he had a hiccup this game was going to get tilted in a hurry it's going to keep Texas his bullpen completely in line 1 1 broken how about for a little Victor who's. Somebody is going to sign himself. He hits writing you wouldn't accept an incomplete job from anyone else. And why accept it from your allergy pills flown is sentenced nothing stronger nothing gentler. Nothing lasts longer. Flown is a 24 hour non drowsy allergy relief today's game on Fox is sponsored by Chevrolet Volt. It's more car than electric David Murphy. First off RBI triple in game one a popped up his first time today when the Rangers missed a chance after a lead off double by Nelson Cruz Murphy popped up Moreland struck out Kindler flied to right how Scherzer is settled in 0 2 and that's a great pitch versus Murphy. If you don't make him stay honest with fastballs then even though he's a little bit unorthodox he can be so pesky. If you don't keep him off that will keep him honest. He reaches out you know the triple yes. He didn't have his legs under him he still hit a triple but you bust him in and now you can open up the rest of the plate Murphy stays alive on to mention in game one that David is in the lineup because a right hander is on the mountain to ninety nine against right handed pitching this year just to 11 against lefty changeup misses in the dirt ball one Scherzer gives everything he's got. I think that's what's called Max effort. That's what you call Max Scherzer. Here's a 2 2 ripped by Murphy there's a lot of moving parts in that delivery but I tell you what he's throwing strikes got him on the outside if you put this Fox thing up Fox Rex is going to be a ball just like a ball instead it's the fourth strike out of the game for Scherzer and you can see why Murphy was hot why Murphy had the long face. Yeah bears Mitch Moreland insurers are credit for taking advantage of a wide strike zone free fall the glove and the umpires been given a tool that's really what it Vila talked about. You went in this direction earlier guys going up especially left handed batters he's noticed them at times look for pitches away whether they're going to get a fastball or changeup. Eventually they'll get that change up and they can hammer it regardless of the speed of the pitch it's a good one on their hands. Strict too. And that's what he was making this point. He needs to come in there and he's to follow it up and he can't just show it. For a fact he's got to prove that he can throw a strike in the stern in another good one he's been good this postseason for Detroit. That one rides away ball one talked about that deal the other piece of the puzzle was he and Kennedy were a Yankee right hander who had the big year leading the Arizona Diamondbacks into the postseason that's way outside again two and two that three way trade helped everybody yeah. And I guess that's the way it's supposed to be. GRANDERSON had a brilliant year with the Yankees the 2 to here the guys that moved around had three team deal. Tigers getting those four pieces all are on the active roster for the post season here. This was two off seasons ago the Diamondbacks get Kennedy and Jackson Yankees get Curtis Granderson and that helped everyone. That's a win win win right there. Everybody's happy. Edwin Jackson now pitching the lead tonight for the Cardinals in game two of their series against Milwaukee. That's up in a way and swung on and missed strikeout number five for Scherzer the bases around do with Tinsley. Coming up today's game summary is brought to you by Liberty Mutual Raeburn with the three run shot the third the Rangers how they got their two in the first Scherzer has been better than Derek Holland good game yet again the Rangers are used to this they've won three straight one run games in the postseason only the 1915 Red Sox won four straight one run games and the post season was Wakefield on that staff Wakefield was there and I'm sure he loves that when I say that those games 2 through 5 and he's made the lunging grab him and we go into the sixth inning here in Game 2 Detroit on top by 1 today's game is sponsored by Geico fifteen minutes could save you 15 percent or more on car insurance by the 2012 Chevy Silverado HD there is Derek Holland who is now a bystander to Game 2 after going to and two thirds Feldman has picked up the slack two and a third innings and has not allowed a hit until right now as the Vila is on the lead off the sixth inning with the Tigers up by one Alex while we play here tonight it'll be fun to watch the Cardinals and the Brewers game 2 on CBS tonight at 8:00 Eastern 5:00 Pacific. And then we're back at it tomorrow night in Detroit on the air at seven thirty Eastern 430 Pacific and what did the two three four hitters do in game one for Milwaukee against the Cardinals. Garcia was the starter but they got everybody and that tone was set with a Ryan Braun home run in the first inning. That's still raw ball is Prince Fielder did his thing and it's been fun listening to Brian Anderson. Ron Darling of course John Smoltz had done a great job for the three of the four divisional series rounds when all five games a lot of good baseball. Jim Leland loves to do stuff with Brandon Inge 0 1 0 1 ball one strike and I say their names because not only do they deserve the credit for the job they're doing but it makes me think of Ernie Johnson Junior who is nothing but class in this business. The real sweet guys and he is dealing with a family situation not available to work the postseason for CBS but here at Fox as I know they are with his family with Turner check on the runner. VILA count one and one on edge. One of the highlights of our game is how many nice people you meet. Present company excluded. Well look at the words right out of my mouth. Here is a one one from Feldman. He's gave up his first hit I think a lot of times in that situation in the past he would've hit and run but Alex Vila is just not moving very well. Probably trying to protect. Here's a guy who gave you a big bear hug before the game. Brad Penny who was quoted in the paper today as saying hey if I get in a game it's not a good situation to one run game. Yeah that's just what you want to hear. Coming from a guy just coming in with a one run lead but he's he's a big strong kid. I'm still feeling the effects of that house. Here is Austin Jackson 0 4 1 he's walked twice Hunter it's second to Villa one out he just goes up there ready to rip. Strike one. Jackson drove home forty five said three pretty good at bats been patient one guy in this lineup that runs scored twenty two during the regular season so many of the good teams in our league now Tampa Texas the angels. It's such a big part of what they do offensively run the bases. And it's something that drives managers and coaches crazy because you've got to keep it on every pitch and you've got to respect it. That's what guys have to deal with in the National League. The 0 2 even when the ball is elevated nothing straight. And now Santiago before Dillman Young to out a runner at second. But you do you have seen and really I noticed it mostly when Joe Torrey and Don Zimmer were in charge with the Yankees and Zimmer kind of brought that style as a bench coach. Terry was was there with his top lieutenant and you saw more of a National League style baseball on Zim sat in there every evening and told Joe to go in and run everybody says he did not answer the questions under its second to out Jim's watch and I'm sure I don't think Zimmer ever missed a game. You walk into that ballpark in Tampa it's not the nicest ballpark. But when you sees him smile and kind of lights the whole place up Mike Adams is starting to loosen up to the right side. Good work lead off here. Feldman gets around it bottom of the sixth inning Good Game. Game 2 Rangers back down by 1 0. We give you today's Volkswagen Passat trivia question baseball terminology. What is the origin of the phrase can of corn use to describe a lazy fly ball. I actually knew this one before I saw the answer earlier today. Can I go at Denny's activity again. Yes. And secondly did it look at Davy Crockett almost took out Raber the star for the Detroit Tigers who had a three run home run earlier. That's kind of spooky looking though those with Seattle loose almost took out Coco Crisp a couple years ago and John Farrell almost assassinated him. It fits inside football Elvis Andrews big bats coming up Hamilton and young Bell Trey if anybody gets on to be a big inning for Scherzer who is retired twelve straight looks like he was up there to take a strike for getting ahead of the Cowboys two and one this is where Andrews has really improved just his situational hitting understanding the game not just going up there whacking out at 279 during the regular season has three hits this postseason. If you want to invite trouble your back shares or you put out the Sanders on Face the big bad Brett Penny is still getting loose breaks this string and 12 straight blocks Wednesday the X Factor is all new the contestants learn who their mentors are when they travel to the judge's home spec lots of drama an amazing vocal performance is the X Factor all day Wednesday at 8:00 Eastern 7:00 Central here on Fox and word was Eastern that it is garble leadoff man is on Hamilton up MVP and the guy who hit twenty five home during the regular season throws him a change up and he's so strong that he keeps his hand back on what he did he hit that ball well but if he keeps it fair to home whole one strike on Hamilton who has an RBI double runs scored and now a change out of the Detroit bullpen inside and I think Jim Cleveland's thinking right here is the church has got him deep enough in the game well he can start matching up lefty righty goes the other way. Impressive piece of that's a big number three hitter right there taking the ball away and smack into left field that that's impressive from 20 fouled on the right field line and then later does this and it was the same pitch he pulled foul but it was elevated and it was up enough just where he could stay on it that's still a nice piece of hitting and a visit from the pitching coach Jeff Jones with action in the bullpen to want nobody out and the Rangers already leading in this best of seven one game to nothing. Michael Young will be the hitter. You've been in a dugout facing Michael Young enough to know that a guy like Young who's 0 for 5 in his series and 2 out of 20 in this postseason. It's only a matter of time and you wonder just because he's been struggling so bad if they will ask him to bunt. I would say in the course of regular season him hitting more hits in the order the way he hits you'd never ask him to punt. I think there's a chance right now that actually will help him but wow really he is headless in the last three games 3 4 game Hitler streak since 2007 he's trying to avoid one here. He's he's leaking strike one. He's so good when he feels good hit the ball to right field and right now that body weight is just kind of leaking out. Does the left field side. Way to make me look good. Like Eddie down on 1 2 on nobody else. Rangers down by 1 and they play the monster's theme song now that's the Adams. That's the Addams Family. The monsters on my mind seem to calm silicate early morning nickname. Half because of his hands out because he looks like Eddie Munster to. Nobody out deal. Again I mean it's been a way Andy Young has been out in front his reach it. He just can't keep his weight there and he knows it too. Because when he's right he rightfully falls the other way. And that's when it becomes so much more dangerous right now. This is tough duty for him but you've got to teams no more hitter with no RB eyes. This postseason they've advanced past the Rays and they're up a game on Detroit. What's that tell you. Because you know he's going to get good base. He's Elvis Andrews. He's there with one out. That was really nice. He checked the ball he was going to fall in. Then he got back in time to use his being over the third that's terrific base running a lot of guys with an outfielder charging like that coming in toward the infield wouldn't even think about that. They'd conceded and state versus second and nobody would say a word. Now the whole situation changes for Adrian Beltran who drove home one hundred five during the regular season and has an RBI double in today's game tying run at third. Now they can't play for double play because of to his hamstring. He is a double play candidate. It's like he's taken all the way. You will see that very often. Here's a guy who put up 30 to home runs 105 RBI and missed five weeks with bad hamstring and as he sees more pitches at bat you'll see him look the right field more and more ninety five from Scherzer straight to Beltran is grounded in the thirteen double plays this season. Pops out of the box window to count. He didn't get him until he got Cabrera if McCown still on to on Adrian Beltran. Outnumbered 2 and Scherzer rings up his sixth but none bigger than that one. The like basketball said that pitch up right there that's called Strike ran the fastball in on him a little bit and set that up pitching to a dangerous hitter. Now they're out there putting their first and third defense on and they're still going to have respect Andrew speed third. You can't just throw through. You can't make that play the shortstop and back to second base and if Texas sends Hamilton you may see a Vila just need it and just take their chances with Napoli I was thinking the same thing. HAMILTON At first the middle infielders are so far back it wouldn't be surprising if they just conceded and they don't vacate their positions and just try to get first base coach Gary Pettis comes in to talk and Hamilton would not be an insignificant stolen base a hit Texas at least theoretically the vacancy with Hamilton at first. It's just so difficult to defend this right now because of Andrew speed third. You could run this play to perfection like you practiced in spring training and he still could be safe at home. On the inside corner and Scherzer has made some 96 miles an hour with movement and I know that the tracker said just off the plate but it's still a really good pitch he's now opened up the plate if he wants to go away with something Napoli who's short ends up with two strikes not opposed to going the other way thinking about Hamilton maybe trying to run it first now in two strikes two outs you can see it and as you said he'll probably just put it the bucket especially being ahead in the count right now you're going to take your chances just get the hitter and maybe more importantly or at least just as importantly you don't want your middle infielders vacating their position. Napoli can hit the ball to the right field side. That's an awful big hole if you've got somebody covering would Napoli has done this year with two strikes and that's been from choking up on the bat said it is laying back and looking for power all the time and Scherzer gets around a walk and a get Rangers have left for on the day trailed by one. Back after this from a local Fox station take a look at the Texas bullpen. Game 1. And the job that they did. O'Connell a big part of it. Adams got a key out and then the fire baller Naftali plays and combined 1 1 8 strikeouts and a big reason why the Rangers won Game 1 and now it's updated with today's numbers as we take a look at today's Chase Freedom cashback players to watch the Detroit bullpen from game 1 and the job they did as young fouls it out of play four innings a hit no runs in the Texas bullpen with the job that Feldman has done what a luxury for Ron Washington don't get shortchanged you get your cash back Chase Freedom good pitch called Ball 1 and there are those numbers updated with Ron Washington has been able to go two out of his pen and what a start today by Scherzer Coleman Young and his return to the active roster all four for here's how they welcome back Scherzer back to the dugout smiles little strategy between Leland and chairs or you could see him say you're at 90 pitches. I think he's telling them he's done that he's going back on a short road. But that's why players like for Jim Leland right there. Well whoever is on the mound in the bottom of the seventh inning it'll be the bottom three in the lineup. The curveball from Feldman's strike one on Cabrera is one for three. You know whether Texas comes back and wins this game or not. Feldman has done an unbelievable job completely keeping their bullpen having a semblance of order Brad Penny's back up I've got to believe if the score stays like it is been was coming in and if they tack on a run or two maybe they'll go to Penny in line. Who signed early with Detroit in the off season set the market for setup relievers no Tampa Bay Ray you've got nice money to come set up for Val Verde to prayer has been shaken out his left hand after not only is Feldman get them out but they haven't had guys up in the bullpen all day that's the point where you talking and talking about how nasty those pitches down on a way to Cabrera I got thirsty that is filthy nothing is straight. Once again today's Volkswagen Passat trivia question the origin of the phrase can of corn when used to describe a lazy fly ball dating back to the 19th century which Terry is in the eighteen hundreds relates to an old time grocer's method of getting canned goods down from a high shelf and remember you're talking to a second semester of you from the University of Arizona using a stick with a hook on the end the grocer with two pecans who fall for an easy catch in his apron actually knew that I had a message from John Farrell in between innings tell me exactly what it was and I didn't believe in a one hour pitch Martinez flies right into shallow good here at Fox can corn in the bottom of the seven we'll stay here with God Bless America with the Tigers on top 3 2 what's in ESPN do that yeah. Yeah. You're not allowed to say that it's a TV. Right now we join public address announcer Chuck Morgan for the introduction of God Bless America. And now ladies and gentlemen we ask you to please rise and join with the Detroit Tigers the Texas Rangers and all the major league baseball. As we pause to honor the men and women of our armed services both at home and around the world today we invite you to join in singing God Bless America with Bridgette hammers here. Me Cindy beside him and guide the night with the light from above from the mountain to the to the White with my sweet my sweet thank you Bridget. Bottom three in the order. Coming up for the Rangers. Bottom of the seventh inning game 2 3 2. Tigers today's game is sponsored by Liberty Mutual Insurance responsibility what's your policy. And by the rise in America's largest and most reliable wireless network. Change in the outfield Delvin young cannot throw. So Ryan Rayburn goes from right to left and Don Kelly can play anywhere. He's got a great arm goes to right out of the seventh inning and Scherzer is back for more swing and a miss Bye. Nelson Cruz. Three two tigers in game two and I think what we're seeing is Jim Leland didn't want. He's a right hander just for one hitter with the two lefties coming up behind him. That was what the conversation. Yes exactly. This should be it for Scherzer or he may have told them your hitter to hit her. You can stay in there until you get a base runner. There's a pretty good chance it's his last series where Murphy struggled so badly against left handed pitcher. It's an easy win right now. Here's a 1 1 strike to or Geico in game box score for the Rangers who bat here in the seventh inning. RBI is in this game by Hamilton Adrian Beltran the guy at the plate Nelson Cruz at a lead off double in the second the Rangers did nothing with it now they trailed by one that time they led to zip it after pitching a brilliant game that'll be the taste left in the mouth there for one more batter and that one batter got him that's about right Danielle Pitts from last night Phil Cole takes over here in the seventh inning tie game for coke that means David Murphy first up down and away ball one as a manager Terry Francona you want your guy to go out there and get one more hitter and I'm sure you're holding your breath sometimes that he can get that guy and then set up the bullpen the way you want it and it did a lot of thinking there was in that dugout they had it set up right where they wanted it they get through one hitter and they start matched up until they get to the guys and it was undone with that one good swing when he came off after getting out of that two on nobody out jam he met with Jim Leyland and he's explaining it to pitch great he pitched a heck of a game six plus three runs six hits one walks six strikeouts and now you get into the battle of the bullpen is even deeper and that's where the Rangers have a big advantage and again I come back on it what Feldman did set up the whole bullpen for Texas. He kept the game where I was supposed to be where a swing like that means something as opposed to just making a dent in a loss. And now they go their horses down their counselling one on Moreland who has struck out twice in and out of play. What do you have Ken Rosenthal on Scott Feldman. Well Joe the Rangers pitching depth is just stunning. Feldman is a guy who missed more than half the season coming off right knee surgery. The Rangers basically used their five starters the entire year. And here they have Feldman now coming out of the bullpen. They also traded Tommy Hunter a fifth starter type earlier this year for Koji who O'Hara is just one after another. And this is a team as you said they were healthy with their rotation they used a total of seven starting pitchers all year here's one skips in a lot of that was trying to slow down guys at the end of the season Hogan. We talked about so that he didn't get over work and now they have the hard throwing Hogan No getting loose. He threw two great innings here two nights ago. It's well documented how much they've talked about their starters Going deep in games and throwing in things but they've certainly kept an eye on some of these younger pitchers also. Here's a one to two out and for the third time today and Moreland strikes out something that's going to be fulfilled. With Kinsley coming up Coke did his job. But in this seven Nelson Cruz is tied at three three. Bottom of the seven to El talked about the deal. Then one guy in November. Three years 16 and a half million dollar deal get overpowering stuff get change up the left handers and he takes over with two out nobody gonna run a home here in the bottom of the Southern be careful on that first fastball you think Kinsley is hunting one of those if he likes it he could come on board here maybe you have that Band-Aid was affecting his command the Yankees Joe Girardi made him take a Band-Aid off his left cheek in game five of that division series a game the Tigers one put him in the first series that was affected by a boil as it is he's Band-Aid free account. Want to know on Kinsley What's that. That's look at that Rubin on that change up that's why he's so tough versus left handed is because that fits right the deal with Ben Stein then kind of set up the market for a guy like Rafael Soriano who signed a three year thirty five million dollar deal with the Yankees even Bobby Jenks who went to your team and just could never get help. I know the Tigers took a little bit of heat when they first signed them but they wanted him and they got him Ben was kind of a neat story. You know he goes to Tampa had gone off the radar for a while on the pitch in the Texas and had one of the better years you could ever have on the ballclub both those guys I mentioned left the Tampa Bay ballpark. They have a hearing here. They have an unbelievable way of finding relievers and their success ratio is terrific totally rebuilt that pan. And there they were. And they're still good. Won the wildcard out of the east. Here is a two to get an eighty three eighty four mile per hour changeup with movement then ninety five mile per hour heat. See right Dave Dombrowski wanted him to get it to Val Verde who is perfect on the year and that change up is so effective because it unlike a breaking ball there's no spin to it. And it just goes down in the zone and there's deception with it and it's it's it's a killer. 2 2 is to win the allowed final out go back to Game 1. Talk about Nelson Cruz getting his home run was the difference in the game and the win against Verlander. Then today the time shot into the eighth we go tied at 3 about a 3 3 game into the eighth inning of Game 2 and now it's Alexi Hogan No worked in Game 1 and went to winning as one walked three strikeouts his postseason numbers compared to what he did as a starter and you can see he can light up a radar gun strike one on Rayburn for a third innings one hit Beltran makes that point and a nice humming sound like his agent for what he did was in winning the game certainly the priority but he comes complete order in their bullpen and on top of that he gave a chance to win they never even had to get up somebody's throwing while he was in there tremendous effort now it's Peralta right in the bottom of this eighth inning the Rangers will have held this Andrews then Josh Hamilton and Michael Young anybody gets on Beltran they're gonna try to keep it three three every pitching the Texas brings in is just throw the ball with so much confidence Geico in game box score for Detroit one big swing and that was by Raeburn back in the third inning a three run shot off Derek Holland the starter who is now off the hook one for Ortiz doubled his 1 4 3 bounced into a force out and his flight out his devil came in the third inning and he was left on that pitch there. That's why right handers hit about 2 0 3 versus Howard Vila who got a hit his last time up one for seven in this series and two for twenty three he did pop 19 home runs. And you know he finally faced a right handed there is Alex his dad good pair of owls and that guy on the left never missed a cut off land. No the great owl Kaitlyn La Villa. And that's how Alex Avila's dad pronounces his last night out. Stay with me long enough you will pronounce any names 99 miles per hour but a pitch that's been a strike. Much of the day. Ball too. That might be a call growing harder as he goes 98. That's harder than he was throwing the other night. Hit ninety nine on that 1 2 pitch MLB at home is presented by flown A's allergy relief get 24 hour all in one allergy relief with flown ace today's game on Fox is sponsored by Audie truth in engineering and by state farm for auto home life and banking get to a better state and we welcome you back. Bottom of the eighth inning Tie game Game two tonight on Fox 8:00 Terranova which has been a new hit and then a nine o'clock house. And if our baseball coverage runs long those shows will be seen immediately after baseball and shown in their entirety Zelda Sanders leads it off stars from those shows show up to ballparks. We were gonna do that for Terranova but the Brontosaurus couldn't get through security. There is a 1 0 probably showing my age but I'm still friends. FAN Oh yeah. Morgana we're actually gonna show people your age because we're about to go on camera. That's thrilling. The count is 2 and. Ben was trying to keep it a 3 3 game. Big bats follow Elvis Andrus 9 3 and 0. And again you get in that dangerous situation. Good base runner. Great hitter. A lot of bad things going to happen. Now as you look at Jim Leyland guy who sat in the corner of the dugout for the Red Sox thinking along with him and you know something bad's gonna happen if you're leaving after a lead off. It's not the way you want to set it up. You got one of the best base runners in the league. You got one of the best hitters in the league you got the middle the order coming up. There's a lot of things that can happen and they're not good. And that is beginning with Josh Hamilton who is digging in Josh is two for three RBI double runs scored a single his last time on actually playing Hamilton to hit it the other way as he did his last time off taking a pitch up and away he flipped it into was ready to jump on that pitch and he got fooled with a change up straight to I think something that goes unnoticed. Ben what does such an effective job of holding the base runner while still executing his pitches. Some guys you can ask the hold the runner and they do that but they lose someone their pitches he can do both know Andrews wants to win so bad is killing him and Ben was not allowing as you mentioned before that this Rangers team even with the power hitting of Hamilton at the plate they will still run and what gives him the green light. You can see Gary Fred is down there when he comes back the first. He's giving him the Times to the to the plate across his chest whether he's 1 3 1 4 just which means he does have the right to go get the stopwatch in his right hand timing the release of the guy on the mound Keenum Bennelong a bad break for the Rangers as Hamilton made a bid for another office offensive field that wasn't that great. They did everything right. Runner goes in motion. Hamilton takes a beautiful swing and one swing two outs hinge with a catch in the throw and now Michael Young with the bases empty young hit three thirty eight hit just 11 home runs during the regular season has been wise one batter away from getting around that lead off walk in the nine for the Tigers Inge Jackson Santiago and its own two Zay Val Verde is getting ready closer for the Rangers now slows it down started to get loose in case Texas did something with that lead off one member Del minion was taken out of the game for defensive purposes can't throw with that strain in his oblique. So do a fourth for the Tigers the ninth is Kelly not down the that's what the Tigers had a one run lead fly ball into right for Kelly fourth in the ninth as we go there in game two with Texas leading one game to none this game is tied 3 3 you wouldn't accept an incomplete job from anyone else why accept it from your allergy pills flown is sentenced nothing stronger nothing gently nothing lasts longer flow days since a missed 24 hour non drowsy allergy relief you can catch all the action of the 2011 major league baseball league championship series on Fox and CBS during the postseason debate and MLB fan cave dot com follow the action on Twitter with the hashtag post season. Legends are born in October Lugano just got a visit from Mike Maddox his pitching coach because Andy Dirks is off the bench to make his first postseason battle. He takes the pitch low ball one and it looks like they got Mike Gonzalez out of the bullpen for Kelly. As you said Kelly's hit third but that's got to be a one in end and then they'll go to go to somebody else. Dirk's flies one in his center for Jackson then Santiago then Kelly somebody gets on and we remind you that coming up tonight Game 2 of the NLCS for the Brewers winners of the central taking on the St. Louis Cardinals the wildcard winners that's Miller Park and that's tonight at 8:00 Eastern 5:00 Pacific on CBS. We're back here on Fox tomorrow night. Game 3 from Detroit at seven thirty Eastern 430 Pacific News Austin Jackson Texas ball pitching matchup in Game 3 of Colby Lewis who's been so good on the road this year for Texas against Doug Fister a huge pickup by the Tigers at the deadline he was the winner in Game Five of the Division Series at Yankee Stadium that's just right down the middle team to get hit this as hard as I can see if you can hit it rings in Santiago you had to hit his first time up Rangers will have Beltran Napoli and the suddenly red hot Nelson Cruz in the air to left center field that ball is going to drop for it his on with two out Don Kelly coming up Ron Washington is making a slow walk out and he will go to Gonzalez top of the ninth go ahead Ron at first to Al Gonzalez coming in the left hander Gonzalez takes over with Don Kelly coming up and I'll just simply ask you the way O'Connor was drawing would you have taken a to wow that's a difficult one to say he was throwing the ball great the reason he can do it. They're playing at home and he's gotten Jeff Talley Philly's next Kelly at the big home run for the first run of the night in game five on Thursday at Yankee Stadium hit it off Yvonne Nova then he was followed immediately by Delma young and it was to nothing in the first game they won 3 2 and this one's in the corner around is Santiago Diggs to third and they're going to hold it Ramone Santiago on a double by Dion Kelly and now the go ahead run is 90 feet away with Cabrera coming off and this crowd has been taken straight out of the game by Don Kelly and Washington is going to make another move. Took Macondo out to get the left hander in the game against Kelly. That didn't work. And now Washington it appears we'll go out and take the ball from Gonzalez action for Detroit in the ninth to now with pink with that flair hit led to by Santiago. Two more pitchers and Philly's is into the game. First base open Miguel Cabrera. Coming up and this is exactly what Detroit wants and it comes courtesy of a double by Don Kelley. You're right the domino effect without one single even if Detroit doesn't score. Texas is committed to Philly's based on going into extra innings here. He's you have to stay out there or they're going to go to the guys that they didn't want to pitch in this situation well. Now that bring Phillies into intentionally pass Cabrera there's some managers who want the other guy to walk in so that in this case Philly's doesn't warm up. But now his next four pitches are just floaters out of the strike zone. And Mike my guess is here is his run Washington and Mike Maddox we're talking want to talk this over to decide what they want to do. Maybe there was some indecision there because I agree. The last thing you want to do is have a guy come in and throw the ball six feet off the plate and lose his arm slot. And now the bases will be loaded where there's no margin for error. So this is unfolding thanks to a hit with two out by Santiago a double by Kelly the intentional walk and it's up to Victor Martinez who was baseball's best during the regular season with runners in scoring position and it's Philly's against Martinez on a tie but his arm doesn't hurt 100 miles per hour but well outside and down now bases loaded two out of 1 0 pitch after an intentional walk this year to Miguel Cabrera Victor Martinez went for four 15 two and two almost went to the backstop Napoli up to grab it Victor Martinez little pop up out behind second base Alvin Sanders is out and so is Martinez. So are the tigers and he just did. Hold on. There was a lot of light popping out and he trapped it against his body to the end it ended the bottom of the night tied at 3 look how this ball was caught by Alexander it's not done yet. The back of his right hand and then the trap against his body. And then relief. That's how close the Tigers were to regaining the lead you're also looking at a young kid who likes to play the game. So does a guy on the mound Zabel verdad. He's been so good and saves situations however in non saved chances were they double bring up the guy who's gotten hot for Texas. Nelson Cruz bandwagon winning ending in the third one walked the rest zeros with Cruz hitting and Adrian Beltran at second you know they're not going to bunt Nelson Cruz will walk to the plate. Andy Dirks is taking over right after pinch hitting Kareem Tigers led 3 2 going into the bottom of the seven. The man at the plate Nelson Cruz went off the foul called on the left field line to tie it off Scherzer I gotta believe it hurts a lot less than the fact that they're giving him first base they didn't call the swing now it caught him on the rescue right wrist first then the ribs Detroit's gonna have to bring their infield all the way in and they're gonna have to bring their outfield all the way in there's nobody out and David Murphy could end the Beltran holds a third one Val Verde a big out and now he will deal with one sure they I'm sure Dave Anderson gave that a thought just because he didn't get behind it very well and it wasn't very deep but he didn't get behind him get set to throw and still wondering you know a guy like Endy Chavez if he if he has a chance to score that but no pinch runner and Beltran this time with a bad hands get ripped by Moreland but strike one Orlean has struck out three times in today's game. Oh for three against Val Verde and his career now the Joakim back up and play for a possible double play and if it's it up the middle soft they'll still come home big swing by Moreland who's now in the hole and in danger of striking out for the fourth time in Game 2. It fell 30 pitches out of this. You're not going to see a celebration you're gonna see a party. From Volver. Didn't get that big second out. The winning run in third unbelievable job by about 30 to get out of it. One half Cabrera to the plate the return throwing tide that keeps us tied into the 10 here in Game 2. Those of you tuning in for Terranova except on the West Coast that will come up immediately after baseball is finished. But we are into extra innings in a 3 3 game with the Rangers leading one game to nothing breaking ball from Philly's misses down and away and Ron Washington will have to answer questions about not pinch running for Adrian Beltran. After that lead off double the start the night one ball one strike and now you're getting into a situation where not only is the winner and loser of the game important but you've got to close this deal in two innings here is a 1 1 high for ball 2 2 and 1 and now this goes back to what we talked about at the beginning of the game which is four days straight of games weather permitting and now you're extending Naftali Farley's and Val Verde but the reason the pinch runner comes up is because of that fly ball that was hit in the left and you saw what I saw the Raeburn didn't get behind the ball and he throws very well but he did not get behind the ball and it just again did not sit in the dugout you don't know but I got to believe Craig Gentry had a chance it's going up both to Redburn it was Homer is inside a for count and for Ryan those are the only RB eyes the day for Detroit I was against the starter Harlan made it three to which it was until the bottom of the seventh each side has missed chances here later three to pitch that last pitch pitches close that's ninety nine two inches off the plate Rayburn was at the mercy of the home plate umpire and he got ball for he wasn't gonna hit it anyway good move now Peralta you've got a villa on deck and then Dirk's Jane Lamont the third base coach went down to talk to Peralta we'll see what they do. No Johnny for all to such a good fastball hitter you've got a guy on deck that hasn't been getting a ton of hits and then you've got a guy that hasn't even been playing so don't let Johnny swing go ahead run it first with nobody out ninety nine running away from Peralta strike one Celeste is such a great job holding runners the only way they can put him in motion here is if they put a hit and run on they can't put a straight steal and that becomes so heavy with the swings and misses against believes that's part of the package game number one sixty nine of the season and Jane Lamont has to come down and talk it for all day with the side I think that's because because they don't hit and run very much in this situation but they've got to try to move this runner This is not an easy guy to turn around and so on your chest now the count in the favor for all to 2 and 1 the bunt checks up but it's perfect Philly's we'll deal with Vila and Dirk's well they didn't ask him to but very often he laid down a blueprint so now it's Alex Vila who came in one for twenty in his post season into this game he's been a battler behind home plate all year he has a hit today this postseason in oh eighty three average one RBI what these two teams have done with runners in scoring position fly ball into left center field two categories just back in time his the and Murphy almost doubled him off the bat off the bat it looked like a ball in the gap Murphy did a great job closing ground right there he went as far as he could and just got back this postseason that came in the ninth I'm sure that's not kilometers. I mean not that is exploded on the planes gets around the lead off blocks still tied into the bottom of the tent. Three three in Arlington. Back after this from your local Fox station coming up next on Fox except on the West Coast Terra Nova and a house with a top body odor coming up Val Verde is back to the mound. He and Kinsley grew at 32 home runs during the regular season one this post season. Faces Belford and pored over the outside corner at 90 to strike one and would talk about deception with the delivery and Val Verde has that unique approach. That's the way of saying it you're always at one pitch away from going home. A pretty profound see if the. Stay with me while I give you some dollars too but also I'm a straight the difference between these two sides and I know we keep going back to this. But after this battle between Philly's and Val Verde the Rangers still have some bullets down there. Still to him it seems like there's a little bit of a hesitation to usually horror because of some of the solo homers he gave up in September. And I think there's some questions how many games Adams can pitch back to back to back so there's some things that one should have to think about right now. Two balls two strikes the best play of tonight's game brought to you by the audio eight the inability to score on the fly ball on the left and that was followed by into a three to three on the double ball that kept it tied after the Rangers in the ninth had bases loaded nobody out and Del Verde got out of it. You can see Cabrera when he caught that ball thought about stepping on first decide to take the shoot out at home ended up being a great decision showing but taking a straight Alan Sanders who is one for two with a pair of walks. Remember he made the catch on that flair with the bases loaded. Ball hit by Victor Martinez in the ninth to win the threat. I know your fox tracker doesn't like that pitch but that's still a well thrown ball and a good in a good location. From the top of the first inning in Milwaukee with the Cardinals down one game to nothing Albert Pujols hit a two run home run but St. Louis is on top before that series goes to Busch Stadium during the week. Some interesting decisions with Albert Pujols pretty soon absolutely free agent be now Josh Hamilton with two out. Nobody on more than capable of ending game 2 with one swing in steady grounds to Santiago about this game we go in to any number he LeVert good work by Val Verde we're still tied 3 3 in Texas Game 2 is turning into right I don't want to say classic maybe that's overstating it but this has been a heck of a game and we've seen great relief work and now Mike Adams one of the big weapons that John Daniels picked up in the trading deadline from San Diego takes over and he has closure type stuff he has great stuff and we've talked about this before the first game that we both said the pitching on both sides may overwhelm some of these good hitters and that's what we see in Austin Jackson is first up top of the order for Detroit that means Jackson Santiago and Kelly if anybody gets on Miguel Cabrera and the one weakness in Adams game is he doesn't go running very well Ryan Perry he worked in game one is getting loose both closer Alberti and closer Philly's leaves being replaced by Adams and Perry getting ready to take over for Val Verde who made it interesting but did a terrific job to keep it tight Jackson Hitler's on the day at some home run thump and he takes down and away we've seen such great pitching in this game out of the bullpen I you like to be the guy to come in and not carry it on Feldman set that tone for Texas inside went too far that's out number one and now the switch hitting second baseman Santiago steps in so you know in the bottom of the eleven it'll be the four five and six hitters this long game will have a ripple effect the rest of the week with these ball pens with games coming up tomorrow night maybe that's the way it should be. We get through a seven game series and use everybody in your on your pitching staff and Rangers added a reliever cautionary Tatyana for this round. He's more of a situational right hander floating down under so it's going to be hard to run him out the look at the movement on this pitch. He's thrown from the first base side of the rubber such to such an extreme ball point looks like he's a foot off the plate and just flailing at it as Santiago for round number two now Don Kelly a homerun in game 5 of the division series and his double set up a great chance in the ninth and then hit it against Gonzalez the lefty guys have bounced around career but he is valuable for Jim Leland who can literally play him everywhere he's played all nine positions in the big leagues every manager wants to have that luxury with that movement he has on his fastball and what his position on the rubber it just makes it so difficult for the left hand hitter to reach all the away the inspiration to get Don Kelly and we showed you in the on deck circle. Miguel Cabrera we are over four hours into this game to well he's had some good swings so we did on that double against the lefty and he did against divine Nova on Thursday night in the Bronx it just so much deception with that pitch because the worry is located on the run with the ball a good seven eight inches off the plate and that keeps us alive and well. Cabrera and a terrific seven pitcher Don Kelly live in a way he's live in a way he's live in a way and then he would get one over the middle of the is going to be so interesting right now and they're going to go talk about this because Kelly can run if he wants to but one thing Adams doesn't do is hold runners but look who's hit and you don't ever want to take a bat out of his hands Yeah and you're saying that because if he steals second you get first base open there's no reason to pitch to Cabrera exactly they've already walked Cabrera once and got away with it by getting Victor Martinez to pop up with the bases loaded in the nine but that's not even on the table right now with digging in. There's the league's top hitter and how about those numbers for Cabrera against the man on the mound Mike Adams. He's got those numbers against quite a few guys. Four for four and now Adam steps off and if they stay ahead in the count to Cabrera then it's more likely that they'll let Kelly steal one ball one strike. Two and two. There are some managers who don't like to put movement on behind the pitcher when a guy like Jim Leyland may very well be that he knows his hitter better he goes. And a fly ball into right center fielder held down the day. But now tonight over four hours in game number two into the bottom of the 11 there the bats coming up tied is three it's gone from Scherzer to cope to Ben what develop vertigo and now Ryan Perry. And coming up next on Fox except on the West Coast we will take you right to Terra Nova. And then house cutting into the primetime lineup. Eight thirty in the east. And here's Ryan fare. And you guys used to complain about the Yankees Red Sox. Yeah. Hey we never complain because it was such good baseball. Typically in this game Terry I mean this this is anything. Forget a baseball fan strike. You know what when there's exciting baseball it's well played it doesn't matter what the length is over they went to one here and one walk. It was intentional. Hit a batter and get out of the bases loaded nobody out situation in the 9 0 1 and I guess it doesn't hurt when you have exciting announcers to listen to him. Don't hurt yourself find yourself for a show. This is going to be my eighth release after this game. By tomorrow Michael Young is trying to avoid his fourth consecutive hit list game always described as a professional hitter because he is so good with the bad his hands went up to spoil it's still going to look how hard he's trying to hit the ball the right field he's trying desperately to keep that weight back and just shove that ball right field but that just one career walk off home run about 15 home games the Texas Rangers have never had Kansas first get this ALCS and Jim Leland playing for no doubles. And that's a lot of managers do that. If he's straight up that's ground ball five three now Beltran who has a pair of doubles in this game he let off that ninth inning with a double off the wall left center the way we have not seen Nelson Cruz have to hit again since getting hit on the wrist happily on deck and then Cruz go on to live and say this could be a big swing very behind on the count goes to Michael Young. Here's a guy who knows how to end the game in thrilling fashion. And center Jackson third hit this game for Adrian Beltran Napoli coming up to on nobody out Albuquerque is a right hander if you are just joining us here's a summary. There hasn't been a lot of scoring but there's been plenty of action raver and a three run home run to get the Tigers lead in the third. Nelson Cruz tied it with a home run in the seventh and there the numbers for the bullpen in this game just rolls on. And now here's another great scoring chance for the home team. Yeah he's still got good pitching. You've got Albuquerque on the bullpen. He strikes everybody out but he can also walk people so there is a fine line. His killer slider has not been as good in this postseason as it was during the regular season. So he's out there everybody in the ballpark knows what's going on here. Now he's not thinking about buying happily hit two home runs the last game of the season against the Angels which gave in essence the Rangers home field advantage in this series after the Tigers knocked off the 1 0 pitch. Napoli wasn't happy about it changed the whole sequence. I mean that's that's ball 3 3 and 0 and you can see why. Napoli saints on the changes the whole lot better. Instead it's two and one good pitching on their hands. Napoli 2 and 2 then he comes in on top and he comes in on him with movement. That's a great fit to tie him up. If you let Napoli extend those arm now his walk off history last time he did it. Everybody's looking for signs right now but I don't think with nobody out there they stay put happily into right center field. They might have glanced at each other just for a second. It's ruled a head but Dirks missed it. It hits Jackson's leg or this game's over gets a bit ripped but I guess the rest is ok and they're there in the same exact situation. A couple of things ago the infield in the outfield in instead of Val Verde on the mound it's Ryan Perry. That's a good point. Count may be on too. But Nelson Cruz is getting more and more like the two off Scherzer get him the night he got here to load the bases one run postseason game. Nelson Cruz makes it a seven three. Rangers win in Game Two up two games to none. He's making Ron Watson look pathetic he said Nelson Cruz has the ability and it will carry him to Detroit up two games to nothing. He tied it in the seventh and won it in the 11th that's at noon. Jon Daniels the general manager hugging Scott service high fives team president Nolan Ryan enjoyed seeing that one say a of here. It is the first walk off grand slam in postseason history. And it belongs to the man standing next to Ken Rosenthal. Nelson Cruz Kenny. Thanks Joe. Nelson you've never looked better. Take me through that last at bat. You've got the two strikes look like you nearly hit one out and tell me about your hand as well. My hands good. I get this guy. I know they're fine. Get me excited you know we bottle the whole game hoping to into a really good job on my team and never give up. And I won't to my first love pizza. After that I was like slow down you'll see that fly ball to this guy. You know I guess when you try that you go out. Congratulations thousand Nelson Joe back to you. For our twenty five minute game and these fans are packed in two Rangers Ballpark in Arlington and their 18th season of this being the Rangers home will walk out of here having witnessed a game they won't forget.
