it is tough times Michigan I mean people always persevered there and they're great people it's really way the city struggling right now with what's going on but you know every time we get to the ranked and every time you look around and you know if there's twenty thousand there it's a great night if they're sixteen thousand they're still buying as it doesn't matter this is always been hockey Tom hockey's always been a big part of the state of Michigan Michigan's in a recession it's a lot harder right now and people can just use different sports teams especially the hockey team the success it sort of lets them get away from it it takes everyone's mind off the problems I wanted to dealing with every day we get together and have a couple beers and root for the wings it's great [Music] the city of Detroit had high hopes again for the Red Wings going into the 2007-2008 season [Music] well we really thought we had a great team last year and leaving the year before and it's basically been a three-year process we've had great regular seasons flamed out he's dead meat in the first round and they'd have to lock Oh and last year got to a Final Four [Music] [Applause] 2007 ended with the wings beaten and battered in the conference final by Anaheim the eventual Stanley Cup champions my theory and my belief they should just keep knocking on the door and you do it year after year once in a while the door opens the biggest thing I learned from class last year was it was a it was a grind it's hard to describe to people how hard it is and we didn't even make it to the Stanley Cup Finals it's really disappointment I don't think anyone with feeling again and we made up our minds this year that it's like it's gonna be hard to stop us as the new season began the Red Wings lived up to that promise [Music] [Applause] we kind of felt we had something to prove [Applause] started over the westcoast when we started in Western Canada those are those are tough trips to go out there and we went out there I'll beat some good okie teams and won some big games for our team early the first 16 games of the season the revenues only lost twice in regulation by New Year's Eve that only lost eight times Detroit sizzling start was due in part to the sparkling play of veterans Chris Osgood and Dominik Hasek we had two really good colas and it doesn't really really matter who's out there Dom was great for us all year Ozzy made the all-star team he's afraid he's the starter in the all-star game a lot of guys forget about that he's 43 I'm 35 mean we don't like tea a worn out and tired so we in a plane come kind of low same amount with nearly identical numbers Osgood and Hasek split time and net and emerged as the league's top 10 them but no matter who was in goal the Detroit defense was bolstered in the offseason when a native son returned to suit up for his hometown team [Music] we really pursued Brian Rafalski and I think he wanted to come home to Detroit again he was a much better player you know you never know how good of a players is until they're on your team and he was a perfect fit no maintenance comes to the rink every day perfect player for our team with his hometown just outside the city Rafalski was back where he played as a youngster we're gonna head down to a wine duct south of Detroit right along the Detroit River that's where I grew up that's right first started skating and playing hockey arena yeah Karina this is Jack arena downtown wind up so I started skating pushing the fold-out chair going to open hockey skating backwards the supervisors telling you not to do that you know punching the penalty box for a little while I thought about what you did tried speed skating out here once to like one time try it out deal you know like strike a people into the program fell all poke myself right here it was great you know go back to arena zero the end while Rafalski returned to his roots homegrown draft picks Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk established themselves as budding superstars whenever you talk about Zetterberg and Datsyuk it always seems to start title one and then the other comes right in well we call him the Euro twins [Applause] [Music] [Applause] they play very similar in the wake they can hang out to the puck and make place and they have a that feeling of planning each other on the ice all the time to practice with them every day you play with them every day but you still go you know the hell did he do that how did they do that I couldn't dream of doing some of stuff they do and know if I tried it end up not looking too pretty they can do things with the puck that people have never seen before around the world they like a lot of minutes they play in every situation and they're they're good at everything hello I'm Hank in my opinion are the two best to eight players in the world trade a lot of gay superstars you know go score some goals but they don't play defense and do little things like they do well I think they learned that from watching Steve Yzerman play he probably was one of the best two-way players and we had a really good offense buddy still it's real a lot of pride in the defense I got over here gonna opportunity to play with great players you know the often skipped off a little bit more more than I expected but I still wanted to play good defense [Applause] unlike Yzerman who was selected fourth overall by Detroit in the 1983 draft this dynamic duo was discovered late like a pair of diamonds in the rough that's always a big talk in Detroit and how have Allen and Henrik we're late around a fix and then some of us were or sinus free agents and I think when you have a franchise that does so well they don't get very high draft picks so they have to go other places for their talent obviously our scouting staff deserves all the credit for our late round gems a lot of times when we're going to tournaments we're not looking at the old Mexicans and Balkans were focused on the next tier of players it's a gut feeling I believe they're so good at what they do is they can look at a guy who's 18 years old and project how he's gonna fit in with this red wave team we like to play what we call European puck possession hockey and and we Scout for those types of players we sign a draft for those kind of players so when they do come in they're playing with other players that are a lot like them with a salary cap the only can't caught and signed big free agents and have to stick within the system and we're still able to find flares and develop players and find a winning team again we're allowed to leave our players in the minors a little bit longer maybe leave them in Europe a little bit longer and we do bring them over to put on the fourth floor you know they don't have to be front stage [Music] we have to watch an eclipse from practice every day or Chris Chelios practice every day and upfront moon to Steve Yzerman here and Sergei Fedorov Brett Hall was here Luc Robitaille the young kids coming along Datsyuk cetera you're learning from great players so I think there's a culture of winning in Detroit and you'd play a Red Wing style and this is the way it's been for the last 15 years [Music] the reason why they do so well is because they bond together and they play as a team and I think that's the spirit of our city just as the city of Detroit faced adversity the injury ravaged Red Wings were forced to overcome obstacles as well neck Kronwall is hurt that's never a good sign when they got into February they lost 10 of 11 games got some injuries on defense we'll also captain for I think 10 games [Music] [Applause] I think what February did for the Red Wings even with all the injuries that they had it gave them some adversity we weren't playing how we wanted to play so you're gonna lose in playoffs too so I think that's the one thing you learn to not let it affect you well I think we all just kind of came together from from that experience when you watch the game from up in the stance or on the TV I think you learn a lot just just from watching as an older team those injuries give you a chance to refresh mentally and give her young guys a chance to play we had some young players step in and show that these guys are gonna be able to play down the road one guy in particular who really made his presence known as Johan Franzen you talked about a coming out party Johan Franz and has had that you're gonna check it for a while haven't you don't score that much and get them really worried about school month of March there wasn't a hotter score in Detroit we got a lot of injury stir for a while holding I went out a little went out so I needed to fill in there in front of a net on Paul place it starts going a little bit that I made my mindset changed a little bit the end of the year he is on rail he's seen like he scored every night in fact he was scoring most every night bahding 14 goals in 13 games Franzen broke Gordie Howe's franchise record for game-winning goals in a single month with six for Franzen it was all about playing time it's all about confidence is all about coaches trust and getting a bigger role I just start to believe myself a little bit more and I actually thought I could score over time injuries mended and the wings were galvanized by the acquisition of defenseman Brad Stewart at the trade deadline but there was one more heart and soul addition who energized the wings on a much different level it was the return of a lonesome warrior who came home to his hockey roots with a fire rekindled and a passion rediscovered I think about where I was a year ago where I was six months ago and where I am now and it's just sort of you know I got to pinch myself just to make sure its real I watched him girl from draft day through our farm system and help us doing a lot of winning he helped us win three championships but go to sit and sign autographs throw pucks in the crowd after warm-up go to hospitals go to schools become a tremendous ambassador for our team and he got hooked up with wrong people he lost his way you go through the same thing as everybody regular people when you're down and you're out and everybody's sort of turn their back on you you really find out who your friends are I'll never forget the phone call I got from Mac you know right around Thanksgiving I just asked if you know we could you know hook up for lunch fat sometime we just sat down to reconnect because we sort of lost connection and I you know it was my doing just pushing everybody away and push the people closest to me away and try out to our lunch and maybe the last 15 minutes we talked hockey I both had about 12 cups of coffee and he was talking about you know how we want to be a better person a better father how he felt there was still some hockey left in him and that's when he asked if I could help him out one thing that I've learned is I gotta you know ask for help and I said to him you know I want to try do you know I'm at the point where I want to try to make a comeback has obviously had a great career but never really trained properly never trained hard enough but he he could always get the job done that's what Darren would always do so I said you know what I'll hook you up you know I have a gym love to take you there you can meet the personal trainers and set some stuff up and the one thing I remember is we went there the next day and one of the trainers said you know when do you want to start and not great away is like I wanna start tomorrow just sort of here of open these doors but you're the one has to do all the work and that's the way I wanted it and that's the way maybe some things have changed they got a call and in December of this year that his agency Darren was looking for an opportunity and I said to Pat Morris's agent Darren did a lot of winning I've watched him grow up from the young man into a man with a family if we can do anything in return I would love to do it but he's got to show that he's back on the straight narrow and he went to Flint and took him into Grand Rapids we paid his dealers going back to the IHL you know and then ride buses and Grand Rapids and doing you know everything he could to make sure that he could become a Detroit Red Wing a get to know how hard you've worked day in and day out and to be a part of it there's nothing better [Applause] ah Cuse always be the end-all be-all that's not the case now hockey's like third priority behind you know my sobriety and my family and keeping a third makes it so much more enjoyable the Red Wings race to the finish line closing the season on a 12 3 in one tear and winning their 6th Presidents Trophy however this group was determined to capture a different piece of hardware as the playoffs began obviously between Nashville in Detroit I think plan to make times over the year I mean they've been do exactly what to expect applause and we did from them there's so much pressure for the team that's supposed to win and there's no pressure on the team that isn't supposed to win so they knew against Nashville you couldn't take anything for granted they've been in the playoff hunt for a good month last month month and half the season they've been each of their games is very important so when they hit the playoffs if they've been in the path motive thinking mentality for a while we knew dye was gonna be a tough series because they were playing good against us all year [Music] Detroit got up to a quick start in Game one as Johan Franzen continued to light the lamp [Music] [Applause] [Applause] after surrendering the first goal dan Ellis held his ground while the Predators hunted for their office I think their goal they was unbelievable else if you ask me we still haven't beaten the chance [Music] [Applause] [Music] theme a fortunate Detroit bounce prevent at Nashville from reversing their fortune on the whoa [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] in game two the wings looked to their battle-hardened veterans to push them forward [Music] [Music] Kashuk one-zero right now it should probably one Nashik [Applause] [Music] down but not out Nashville would not quit and kept unloading on the Detroit net they paid Harlan they were able to use their chances to score [Applause] eleven seconds later the Quickfire predators struck again the games was amazing these guys score and it's like you know they score again this court do rolls in 30 seconds or something [Music] that was tough us blue bow back [Applause] [Music] the game to win was especially memorable for Chris Chelios who reached an historic milestone Chris Chelios is 248 Stanley Cup playoff game on NHL record no one's closed Chelios to me is the ultimate warrior he's a rough tough individual he's deceptively quick he's in such great shape he is a freak of nature I just hope to be walking at 46 let alone skating I mean I was in playing junior when he was winning the Cup the record for oldest player to ever play in the NHL is Gordy's chris says he can have it we'll see if he's true to his word we all hope that we couldn't get one game in Nashville 102 2 taking one on the road looked good when Pavel Datsyuk gave the wings a 3-2 lead but with less than four minutes left it was deja vu for the doctor [Applause] that's just what happens at playoff time you know not everything's supposed to go away a way you want it to go [Music] like what did you like watching yourself oh won it went in I mean it just going in the net and that can't be the case and it just you lose a draw champion you're not did so on Game three we didn't like the wid finish but I think you got to give your players an opportunity and we go back with DOM and game for the plan that fight and Babcock handled with a risky switch [Applause] [Music] shot [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Chris Oscar you know I've said this a number of times and you change your goalie at playoff time you're usually fishing about three days later that's just the way it is it just doesn't happen but that was the time we started to engage right there as he give us some confidence there was all of our hockey club really started right there I was a huge turning point throughout the whole playoffs for us so you sing when you trust a goalie Ozzie couldn't save Detroit from a second straight loss but the job was his to lose and from then on he didn't lose much of anything [Music] leading one nothing Detroit kept their foot on the gas but Ellis refused to crack under the pressure of their attack dan Ellis was terrific for the Predators [Applause] we threw 50 some shots at Alice and we are all over them but just the way things go and the puck ended up in our net [Applause] they tie it up late you know now you're thinking you know you're coming into overtime you know we've had some first round disappointments we're like we're not letting this happen again [Music] [Applause] [Music] that was a huge sigh relief for us we know we were back on top of the series that sort of propelled us and we were able to win game six but that series was really close they were a tough opponent [Applause] real predators if you're gonna win the 16 games to win the Stanley Cup you're gonna face adversity and that's what champions do you know they face it they overcome it and they move on and that's exactly what we're able to do against Nashville after escaping the Predators the wings are earned a date with a familiar foe and their fiercest rival between 1996 and 2002 Colorado and Detroit clashed in several epic playoff series combining for five Stanley Cups between them now just a handful of players remain from those memorable skirmishes and this latest chapter was marked by one of the rivalries newest names they call the mule and Manny gets the job done [Applause] [Music] and he said like his corn will against Colorado [Music] saw the confidence in them and every time you touch the puck something good happen you need to believe in yourself [Music] back to fronds and it behind the avalanche net brings everybody this ability to take the puck hard to the net he did that a few times in that series where it's got a defender that's chasing him but he's so big and strong and he can beat that guy to the net he just kept scoring scored [Applause] [Music] almost too good to be true [Applause] Franzen was on a terror that I have rarely seen any hockey player do I said that serious everything went in for him and he he was great there's a simple way of saying [Applause] [Music] in terms of their thanks to funds and putting pucks in the net and Osgood keeping them out the wings put Colorado on the bridge they saved their best for the elimination [Music] [Applause] when things are going in and you're playing with that confidence luck seems to follow you around [Applause] [Music] that's cool [Music] yeah yeah mule had that's that's one for the the yearbooks I mean that system could be my greatest playoff series ever by an individual [Music] [Applause] ha grunting water series big sweep to do that and for games is insane sweet [Applause] you can't describe it you honor your the wings were soaring after a rare one-sided sweep against their arch enemies Vons ins nine goals in the four-game series broke another Gordie Howe record I'm not comparing myself to how they created slay her so it doesn't almost doesn't feel right but it's it's really fun that happened to me he's been big now for a long time he broke I think Brody's record in March and then he broke his record here today so good for him I mean if you're gonna break records muzzle break or tea house in the Western Conference final the wings ran into the Dallas Stars another hard-hitting rival steamrolling to another three-game lead and nine straight playoff wins Detroit was poised to deliver a knockout punch you know a lot of people think well it's easy you're up three games to none you're going to Game four you should sweep the series but that's not always the case [Music] more good we just didn't compete on enough who are prepared to compete at the level you had to the finish it Tina [Applause] gave for they played great you didn't play very good and you give Dallas all the credit then we came back into our building and then Turco played his best game in the series he's so good at playing the puck where you give him time he can act like a third defenseman back there he can fire it all the way up and and almost be a good part of the break I went away he can play Terkel will come out and get it ahead of all others and his past delinquents and he's got a lead he's into the zone lunnqvist sure he scores do the one thing you always realize is you're in the playoffs or in the Western Conference Finals Dallas said beaten and I'm they beat San Jose they're a good hockey team turn this into a series I was coming off the elevator with URI Hudler and he was talking to me sake and he says are you worried at all I said no I'm not worried we've got another game to play right he goes what seems like everybody in Detroit is worried he goes but look around our locker room since these guys have been through it before Nicklas Lidstrom Chris Chelios Chris Osgood Molly Draper says they've been in every type of situation there's no worry we're gonna go out and we're gonna win this game [Applause] it was just confidence at that point where you just knew me you felt that we're not going to lose tonight the one thing that we were talking about is we got to get to the back you know and that's how we're gonna score walls [Applause] [Music] we accept so I saw Dallas Drake you don't taking the puck white I'm like I'm getting in the net I'm staying at the net all of a sudden the puck kind of just grazed off Turco right off my bottom three teeth and it was funny because I saw the puck and I'm trying to whack at it and I'm thinking to myself my teeth aren't where they're supposed to be this hurts and I saw a cross the line and obviously put my hands up and then I got cross-checked so I stand up and I knew the puck was in and Ollie just kind of looked at me he's like are you okay I'm like no it's gated to the vent sure enough I had three teeth that were banged up pretty good but at that time here who cares to cross the line I was the goal and started a big first period for our team [Music] if I don't crash a bank if I don't go to the nav great so do the same we're pretty ineffective if you're all guys gotta be your roll guys your scores go to score and if you don't do what you're supposed to do is you don't let will you talk about secondary squirty [Music] [Applause] he scores [Music] we had to really amp up her game Game six was our best gaming playoffs to finish him off and it's a testament how good they are a very good team and we did a very good job of you know [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] you see in two cities that are in close proximity Pittsburgh fans don't like Red Wing fans Redding fans don't like Pittsburgh fans but it's a good healthy competition out there if you love hockey this is a series you want to watch if you're a hockey fan you know that the marquee can begin to hold the names of all of these stars very few best four out of seven series will have this much star power [Music] [Music] like some as the championship round began the balance of power seemed equal across the board but an early parade of Detroit penalties can cast the Red Wings last line of defense as its brightest star we didn't play out the way we wanted and we ended up in the box and an Aussie really came out begging and the save us [Applause] I think that first period I think we felt a little bit nervous now we put ourselves in the penalty box three or four times we know they have a good power play and Odyssey was able to make some key saves and you know once we got through those penalties I think that gave our team momentum thought we took the game over and playing a lot more confident [Applause] the targeted Sidney Crosby soon as they touch the puck they're going right to them they're hitting them and then that's leading to chances the other way if you players like Crosby walking in time they will do something creative and you have to be on him all the time otherwise they will do something you don't like [Music] you're always a backchecking and were blocking shots and we're trying our best to keep him out of Arizona [Applause] [Music] Sammy's been working hard all season it was nice to see him yet that a confidence back and and then get the second one who clears the center Samuelson dumps it [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Boston to Draper [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] they played a really good game deserve a lot of credit what I mean time I wouldn't player game so I'm expecting a better effort from her her team Knicks game Pittsburgh did not meet Terry ins expectations and Detroit's defensive dominance again Ford at the Penguins March [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Music] as he doesn't get rattled in goal we're an extension of his demeanor I was a real calming influence on us he's really low-key doesn't get rattled about much I think it influences us a lot in the dress room before the game he's he's just ho-hum he goes about his business and I think that reflects on how we play a lot of times he's a guy that everybody's been telling him why he can't do things and why he's not this why he's not that he doesn't care he just goes out in place laughter a lot of stuff that I read you know about you know the worst going over the one a cop and all this garbage you know that's BS the guys got a Hall of Fame credentials he's been doing an awesome job in bed you know it's unbelievable how he's always played through these playoff games pretty easy for everybody knowing that he's gonna be stopping the puck for us the Pittsburgh Penguins playing host to the Detroit Red Wings the Red Wings lead this best-of-seven series two games tonight is the change in venue enough to turn the series around you know Pittsburgh is very comfortable playing at home they've had you know a great role here and certainly a great role in the playoffs we're well aware of that [Applause] best effort to get back in this year after two straight shutouts the Penguins faithful prayed for a savior captain Sidney Crosby answered [Applause] [Music] [Music] to think that we're gonna keep everybody on their team score free for the whole series it's not possible [Applause] they took it to us Crosby and Haase on the powerplay in particular took over the game for me johann Franzen with an incredible effort restored hope for Detroit [Applause] but Detroit's jubilance was short-lived as Adam Hall thanked one in off Chris Osgood with time ticking down the ice opened for a blitz of beautifully seamless hockey worthy of the championship round it was great it was end and that's the way I think hockey's supposed to be played you look at the clock light wins next timeout [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Detroit battled but couldn't snap Pittsburgh's home win streak that stretched to 17 games [Music] [Applause] reality is somebody's gotta win and lose every single game in the playoffs that doesn't mean it's bad game that's a group we know we have to show up and play for that 60 minutes and stick to our game plan I think that's where the experience comes in a little bit that we know we have to play better and Game four [Music] I think for Pittsburgh they've got to watch the troit coming out awfully fast out of the gates the wings new control of the series was on the line and beautiful [Applause] [Music] chased down volume shame [Applause] you don't want to have to play from behind for a long time especially because there's a tough place to play [Music] they're feeling good about themselves and yet and seen that pretty good belief system in our group we always respond [Music] horse it was this no different than it's been all year for us and you Nicholas your comes through for us and we're right back in it goals were not easy to come by and the teams had to fight for every square inch of ice [Applause] must be round that game was clawed and scratching game what I swore [Applause] just the most important period of the playoffs new history three-one face the toilet off [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] just like in years past and where they talk about playoffs it's the guys that step up we don't expect and host it up [Applause] [Applause] well you've got nothing to lose basically you know you're up against fair skilled players and they are to more than you most likely they would score [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] now Sydney's a very strong guy he buries a lot of those and she was able to bear down a stick and to stop doing it after that so not just a smart hockey player doing - doing what he does best [Applause] that's what hanged us after killing off the five-on-three advantage Zetterberg in the wings were moments from taking a stranglehold on the series [Applause] [Music] [Applause] that's a big one you know in two two two three one is obviously huge Detroit Redwings gone having a chance to win the Stanley Cup [Music] Thomas hopes to returns from the tender hamstring that kept him out of being form and this be the first captain european-born and trained to hoist the cup first and decide what to do with it next I think for Pittsburgh if they can score the first goal the game [Music] [Applause] sometimes you're in such a hurry to do this and stuff folks I'm finishing your checks and taking care of the puck and plain salt in your own zone and suddenly now we're not doing what we do [Applause] I thought it were a little bit the tentative in that first period I thought just everything around game five being an elimination game have a chance to close this areas out and win the Cup at home I thought we felt a little bit of that pressure [Applause] [Applause] lucky number this crowd is stunned the range of these playoff [Applause] but the period began with more of the same Stewart Center 17 shoots are when he looked at it too high [Music] [Applause] pets birds getting all these chances to put Detroit the real serious wall they're not scoring which keeps Detroit spokes along here early in the second million [Applause] that one goal we really got some confidence back and we started playing the wings recaptured their swagger and the game's momentum [Applause] [Applause] continue here just moments later Pittsburgh absorbed yet another blow [Applause] focus knows in this suit gentle penguins hanging extend this series there's Malone back please regulation way [Applause] the jockey [Applause] the Sena Bert the high slot which is way outside grand on the historic [Applause] [Applause] take it away in Tipton deep Bronson creature of Ho Chi Chi we should be fresh despite your co-routines words champagne was on ice and Detroit was close to lifting yet another Stanley Cup [Applause] sports all Joe Lewis chanting you know we want the cup you know from you know a minute down and then all of a sudden Ava's got it senator for Xhosa intercepted by a shooter shelters [Applause] I wasn't tired of three we got a brand new you know what's at stake you can you're right there you can taste it and to get that taken away from you you're all sitting there I guarantee you everyone will think the same thing as this as close as I'll ever get to the Stanley Cup rather than hang their heads the Red Wings continued to storm the net in overtime but a masked man in white would not relent [Applause] [Applause] shots are 42 we had so many good chances he was unbelievable as the first overtime bled into a second and then a third the Detroit veteran seemed to have the younger fresher legs but could not solve flurry [Applause] [Music] [Applause] some of us got that feeling like you know it's one of those games were doesn't matter what kind of opportunity he had he was gonna stop it you're sitting on a bench you see the opportunities like you're jumping out like thinking this could be it no you know flurry makes the save there is disability also at the station fatigue [Applause] so jump in their game [Applause] one penguin was confident he could be a difference maker [Music] [Applause] comes back in behind the goal balking over to Sakura we're shots that is unbelievable he called it shot [Applause] that feeling you know after Game five was just terrible everyone really thought that we were gonna win and you know I just have a great celebration here at Holmen and now we have to go back to Pittsburgh I [Applause] thought we had a good meeting in Pittsburgh when we got there the night before the game and we know we talked about what we had to do we wanted to get prepared mentally their mind didn't worry about playing hockey we're the better team do what we do we'll be fine all those guys has been around for so many years and won the Cup before Chris Chelios Draper Maltby Nick let's jump those were the guys started stood up and she told everyone we're gonna do this we have another opportunity to win the Stanley Cup tonight Game six another opportunity for us to win let's throw everything out there and let's make tonight tonight [Applause] to do inside Mel arena for Game six the two [Music] [Applause] Gamefly we didn't have a great start we really wanted to make sure that that didn't happen again [Applause] I thought we started little well but he turned the puck over when rating the and he made a huge safe that I thought gave us confidence and then we were able to get started obviously scorn first was huge we're a much better team as most teams are when they get the first goal we felt that we were taking it to them early on and getting a goal I think gave the whole team a boost [Applause] I'll guess the team like Pittsburgh I have so many good players you don't want to sit back [Applause] we kept staying on the bench keep going on the attack you know keep doing the things that we do to be successful [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] make a play make a play [Music] [Applause] [Applause] for most of the second period Detroit got under the skin of the Penguins and aggravated they're anxious fans everywhere [Music] but a penalty on that suit late in the period woke up the home team [Applause] Osby left side a Balkan [Applause] now we'll got a penalty and they score in the power play now they've got back in the game going into the dressing room we just went in regroup we have 20 minutes to play you know the best period that we've played all year [Applause] once again capturing we're in the bus situation at school or you'd ask for a game we wanted to go on go leave my third period on the road there was not one guy with a date man you're 20 minutes away and the one thing we said is you know let's get that next one I shot a pucking I didn't see it and I didn't hear any whistle either so I kind of hope the puck was behind him from the bench you can't see the puck you're looking at the referees to see if they're gonna blow the whistle when he went back and just hit his pants in the right way to Chava the head the referee just came around the net and I'm pointing as a goal [Applause] we wanted to do what we were doing we want to get above there guys in the middle of the ice [Applause] one shot take your skill guys away we're doing that what we did a really good job of was killing the clock in the corners some shifts we have a buck for 45 seconds just in our feet was gonna score but we were just killing time but time Stood Still Detroit was called for a penalty that once again threatened their celebration [Applause] when they made it 3 to 2 I was sick to my stomach and I thought this can't happen again [Applause] [Music] on the bench just kind of thinking like you know if this is it it's taken down you know guys are looking at the clock I didn't watch the last couple minutes I was staring at my feet the whole time I looked up with seven seconds left and they would talk as the center ice I'm like aw it's it's over [Applause] they just come back and cross pin and hosts I think it was 201 cross we got a pretty good back counter from that position and then I see also going for the rebound so he's trying to chip it over ah see and I think he went just right through the crease I looked out there saw three series on that on the game clock just looked at all so you know so look at the end yeah it's over for Dottie [Applause] the emotions that are going through your body everything starts to come out all at once [Applause] you're emotionally your fight back tears you're happy you're jumping on guys guys are jumping on you you don't know what to say other than scream as low as you can [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] I'll always remember Delos drinks he's got passion he's a heck of a man and for him Dave if that cup over his head with his family there was something all the memory I'll treasure forever [Applause] he's been great seasons been it's been a lot of fun it's an unbelievable feeling to be able to win with such great guys around you the one thing I've always said I've been so fortunate to play with great hockey players throughout my career once again here I am City talking about winning another Stanley Cup with great occupiers as teammates we have a special special group a group that I'm to be the coach thrilled to share with these guys and obviously the state of Michigan in the city of deterrent Stanley Club brings us hope and excitement it brings everybody together for the first time again no matter what we're going through okay it's very exciting for all of us [Music] I don't think this could've came at a better time the winds one of their car greatest gift a sports team could ever do for a city when I walked in the stress room at the beginning of March I felt in the air like it was in posture and inches and the camaraderie to the work ethic it's not about individual accolades it's about team success [Music] that's what it's all about because now we all get to share this together and there's no better feeling [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] we are the reason we play because of you guys [Music] [Applause] questo [Applause] is it any good we've got the Stanley Cup back at home where it belongs [Applause] everybody needs something positive something to hold on to and when your sports teams are doing well that's huge [Applause] I love you [Applause] [Music] [Applause] we as the team would like to pay heat of the past for your support and what are you doing for us your hard work is sitting in hard work and state and that's the way we try to be as a team as well [Applause]
