a bmw 3 series does not need an introduction to most driving enthusiasts i mean bmw is so well known in this segment that most enthusiasts out there will start salivating at the thought of driving a 33 series on a curvy back road so today let's take a look at a bmw that's quite popular on the used car market what you're looking at is a 2008 bmw 335i now this generation 08 actually represents the fifth generation also known as the e 90 through e 93 body style the sedans are known as the e 90. now this 3 series when it first came out in 2006 it replaced the older um previous generation e46 and this thing has been a really big critical and sales success for bmw i mean it pretty much is known as the ultimate driving 3 series and a lot of people still prefer this generation 3 series over the current f10 body style or f30 body style i'm sorry um now the three the three series for 2008 is still available in two models there's the 328i which it has a standard uh straight six it's naturally aspirated or this one the 335i with twin turbocharged three liters straight six and i gotta say back when this car was brand new at the time you could pick one of these up for over fifty thousand dollars loaded so today you can buy them in the used car market for a pretty good deal and this particular one only has forty three 000 miles on it that's a pretty loaded up three series it's one of the nicest ones i've seen for this body style so for what is bmw done to it throughout the years well 2007 they got rid of the older uh 2.5 liter and three liter v or straight six engines and then they gave us the turbocharged straight six and then the upgraded three liter naturally aspirated straight six for 2009 is when bmw really updated this car they changed the styling front and rear they added the turbo diesel 335d engine and of course you can still get this car in the coop convertible and then there was a wagon body style and then of course for those of you who want the ultimate performance there's the m3 but that's a different review i've shown you guys an m3 you can see this particular one you can distinguish a 335i obviously from the badges this particular one has some blacked out badges the dual exhaust outlets are also part of the 335i name the 328 eyes will just have the single outlet with the dual tips and then of course looking at the front you pretty much won't be able to tell it's a 335i most of the three series you find won't have those hid headlights with the corona rings but this particular one does most of the 335is you find will have that and this thing is still a good looking car despite its age and it's quite a popular choice in the used car market if you're in the market for a luxury sports sedan checking out the interior of the e93 series it's still a very bmw like environment it doesn't actually look too old at a glance i particularly like this one because it's the white with the brown leather it's really a rare combination i've yet to see one of these combinations for this model now stepping inside this is a sports sedan so it's pretty low to the ground of course and you're going to have to kind of duck your head a little bit but you can see the interior of this vehicle still looks pretty nice i mean this one's loaded up to the gills um surprisingly it's it's pretty loaded up with eye drive and navigation but here's the key for the vehicle it doesn't have smart access see if you put your foot on the brake and push this button it doesn't work you have to actually stick the key in the ignition that's a bmw thing if you don't get the intelligent access and then you can push the button to start the engine and then of course you'll hear the traditional bmw you know chime here it's actually kind of annoying sometimes every time i get into a bmw but um overall the interior of this car is pretty cramped um if you look at the current generation it's a little bit bigger a little bit more roomy feeling environment but the materials in here are top notch i mean this is still a three series um the dashboard material is all soft touch i really like the design of it i like this dark wood grain trim of course you have these really puny cup holders but it is soft touch right here uh the door panels again they're soft touch right here with a nice metal door handle here some leather stitching and then again the wood grain it looks very nice all the windows are automatic up down kind of expected for a bmw the steering in this thing this one has the sport package so it has the three spoke wheel with the paddle shifters which you can actually push or you can pull them i don't like how they're mounted to the wheel i wish bmw would have mounted them to the column but overall the steering in this car is really heavy really heavy steering hole because it's hydraulic power steering and this is what the steering that the enthusiasts are missing compared to the current f30 body style you can see here you do have heated seats you have bmw's older i drive system you can see here that screen is pretty small by today's standards it's all controlled by this knob right here which actually only has a menu button if you look at the newer high drive systems they have lots of shortcut buttons to help out this unfortunately only has just that and one menu button um to scroll around it you pretty much just have to like for example if i want to go to nav i have to kick the wheel to the right and it goes to nav i mean this is the system that a lot of enthusiasts really hated and they actually told you to avoid the nav system just because it's a terrible system it's not very intuitive and you're basically going to be taking your eyes off the road i mean the nav graphics they look pretty old and when you put it in reverse it doesn't even give you a backup camera or a backup sensor so it's probably another a la carte option or something like that but i mean overall the um inter the back this is back in a time when bmw's their their i drive systems weren't really why you'd buy it but you bought them you bought them because this is a bmw and let's go for a drive basically um the seats in this car very comfortable i like the thicker bolstering extension i like the fact that this actually adjusts forward that's a bmw thing that's where a lot of infinities actually copied that but looking at the glove compartment here it's actually a pretty decent size it's lined with felt it's damped i mean overall this interior despite the fact that this is old right here that's old it's still really nice i really like the way it looks it still looks very nice and high quality and executive class now of course being a 3 series don't expect the back seat to have a lot of space and it doesn't because this is a rear drive car you have a gigantic center drive shaft tunnel right here but at least you get vents back here a little bit more storage you have dual map pockets now in terms of the foot space underneath the seats it's very small very tight so leg room back here is tight i mean i'm five foot seven i could probably deal with sitting in the back seat here but those of you who are over six feet you're not going to want to be back here the door panels they're at least soft touch it's i mean it's carried over from the front seats i'm not expecting the interior to be cheap anything like that this is a bmw the seats themselves they actually fold down it looks like you have a nice pass-through right here and of course a nice armrest here with some cup holders and additional storage now looking at the trunk capacity of the 3 series again you can see it's got a 60 40 split fold down rear seat it's a pretty nicely finished trunk i like how it doesn't have any uh hinges that crush your cargo um overall you're gonna look at about 12 cubic feet of space the reason why it actually has a lot of good good space is because this generation three series introduced run flat tires so these models will not have a spare tire underneath that floor of course because this is a bmw when you look underneath the hood you're gonna find the company's straight six this is the 335i so you have the n54 three liter twin turbo straight six this is different from the current uh generation three series as it has two turbos the current model is the n55 that's got a single twin scroll turbo but the numbers are still pretty much the same from the um the newer generation 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque now bmw is pretty much well known for underrating this engine um a lot of people have dyno and this they're saying it makes closer to 330. i mean this is one quick sedan of course this one is rear-wheel drive you can get all-wheel drive as an option on the 335i that was new for 2000 and 2008. with that six-speed automatic transmission fuel economy is rated at 17 in the city and 26 on the highway and of course it's on premium gas let's take a look at how it all works so i'm pretty familiar with how this e 90 body style 3 series drives i mean honestly i've driven the 328i plenty of times way too many times and they've always pretty much bored me um just because most of them you'll find are the uh all-wheel drive models with the automatic but the 335i is the one that will still intrigue me and let me show you exactly why that is you know even though this car is an 08 it still feels plenty powerful and it still feels very solid that's the one thing about this bodystyle 3 series it feels like it was built at least it was it feels like it was over engineered for its time and then of course because this is a turbocharged twin turbo a direct injection engine it's got a lot of power this thing pulls incredibly hard it pulls all the way to its redline and it feels much quicker than the 300 horsepower claim i mean back then this car would hit 60 in just under five seconds most of the times i read was between 4.8 to like 5.4 depending on the transmission which body style if you have the all-wheel drive or if you had the rear drive model and this thing is still really fast i love when you put your foot down and dip into that power this thing will still put a big smile on your face now in terms of the rest of the dynamics of this e90 i mean this is what made the car famous compared to the current f30 body style uh this 3 series just feels much more focused it feels sharper the steering has an incredible amount of feedback it's nice and heavy and the car just changes directions with authority this is the reason why a lot of enthusiasts bmw enthusiasts especially are bitching and whining that the new model has been softened and just toned down which honestly i can see why they're complaining just because i love the way this one feels i especially love to drive it with a manual transmission but at the same time the current body style i don't think has gotten is to the point where it's like horrible it's just not what the purists are used to going around that corner you can see the suspension stays incredibly flat and this thing just feels like a freaking sports car it does not feel like it's got a pair of doors on the back now another thing about bmw's that people really like is you can basically drive the vehicles hard when you feel like it but when you're kind of looking for a luxury sedan they're nice and quiet and refined they've always had a really nice balance between ride and handling that's a pretty well known fact this 335i is no exception um the ride is very firm yet it's also compliant it pretty much will isolate you from pretty rough bumps but at the same time it's very very uh inspires a lot of confidence you can see when you plant your foot this thing really goes it definitely feels like a five five second car easily and uh even the current body style with the with this with the n55 engine the n54 people have constantly said that it feels more powerful than the n55 honestly i don't really notice the difference they're both equally fast bmw bmw's twin or turbo straight six has always been a really impressive engine that's the reason why a lot of people you know pay the premium price that bmws ask for now in terms of the visibility in this thing it's a pretty small car so you don't really need to worry much you have a really nice view of the road the dash design is really really low the hood is a little bit on the long side because of that straight six but i mean aside from the really small mirrors this thing is really easy to drive the steering is very very responsive communicative the seats also they hold you in place really well i definitely like the bolstering extension for your thighs and bmw's automatic transmission this thing also really smooth really refined quick shifting honestly though the 8-speed auto is an improvement so for those of you who have never driven a car with the eight-speed automatic i definitely would uh try out the new buy stop but if you're gonna go with the automatic for this car it's not a bad transmission so coming up to the conclusion of this review uh if you guys are in the market for a sports sedan a used sports fan these things are actually starting to become quite affordable affordable especially the fact that these things were over 50 000 and they were brand new and i have to say they're a pretty good um choice if you guys are okay with the fact that you're gonna have to deal with higher maintenance costs i would probably recommend getting one that's a certified pre-owned maybe getting one that has an extended warranty or buying a service contract if you you know can swing the cost just know that if you buy something like this your face will have a huge smile on from the fact of how quick it is how incredibly balanced is how incredibly refined it is but your wallet may not be as happy just because this thing will cost a little bit more money versus its japanese competitors anyways hope you guys have enjoyed my overview of this 2008 bmw 335i if you're in the market for one i highly recommend the turbo model it's a lot quicker than the than the 328i if you're gonna go for the naturally aspirated model at least go for one that has the six-speed manual as the automatics with the all-wheel drive system they tend to be a little bit on the slower side hope you guys have enjoyed my overview of this 335i thanks so much for watching guys i'll catch you all later
