check in what's out bounced out yeah boom of 45 straight starts for Eli Manning that's fourth best current streak among starting quarterbacks but Tom Coughlin told me he must start bitter in the first half that offense to the Giants has not gotten into the endzone in the first quarter since their first drive way back in week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys matter of fact they've splurt only 43 points are their 123 thus far this year in the first half and have been down 17 to 7 Coughlin told me in the friend going into halftime locker room he said we must focused early and finish late or else we are gonna have problems week in and week out producing on offense which is mentioned earlier the third quarterback here tonight and Bobby Petrino insists there is no quarterback controversy but it doesn't sound that way when you talk to left which I just did that a few minutes ago he told me I was brought here for a reason I prove that I can win in this league when I'm healthy and I'm healthy now Leftwich says it's taken a while to learn Bobby Petrino's playbook but he says he now knows and left which says I have so many chips on my shoulder I can't wait to get out there and play Chris it probably won't happen tonight since he's listed as the third quarterback but then again you never know he was number three last week and bought it and really you do never know is walking in or one said about baseball you can sum it up in one word you never know now trying to bring you to the field pass lexical bursts he's been injured a lot but more he's out there tonight Tommy he's caught seven touchdowns key I mean obviously a huge target he's a big target tonight I think he'll go up against DeAngelo Hall and if he continues to play like he played all year long I don't see why he can continue to just stay on pace to have a Pro Bowl type season but one thing that he has to do is stay consistent throughout the year and help this team get into the playoffs and I get frustrated if things don't happen the way he wants them to on the other side of the ball speaking about a guy who is a playmaker we saw a couple of weeks ago against the young tackle Winston just as there was none most see him in your six sacks in one game he's a shall we say got all the sacks in different ways didn't he built in this guy's a tremendous pass rusher he's quick he's explosive he's improved his run defense and I think the Falcons got to do whatever it takes one two maybe even three guys they've got to take this guy and stop him from rushing the quarterback tonight or he will wreck the game by himself young Joey Harrington human urine stray head will be chasing you all night other than prayer Stephen you know under but sharks what do you do well prayer is a good idea I remember coach coming in asking me tell me please be careful you could get hurt today when I played the Chicago Bears back in that day by the coach might be telling Joey Harrington the same thing tonight Joey's a veteran player he knows he keeps got atom and dynamic play calling from his coach Bobby Petrino to get him out of trouble he cannot stand him back there and just take the hits and take the hits because that's not fair Joey's the sixth head coach in six years I think he's weathered that storm very well his upbeat he's excited and he thinks he's playing pretty good football maybe the best of his career and if you look at the numbers it might be true tonight the nice test on national TV for Joey all right Steve Michael Strahan you mentioned you manure and Strahan Tom there yeah they know we're Harrington lives right there in the pocket yeah and in his 15th season you know obviously you move a little bit in terms of your speed and quickness off the football but he's still a guy that has to be accounted for and that defensive line to book in 2oc human URIs so human Yura doesn't get all the attention he'll get a chance to have some success and I think really the undisputed leader on the defensive side of the football for the Giants [Music] hey Emmett Jeremy Shockey plays a lot of emotions sometimes it gets him in trouble do you want him to temper it or just play what he's got no you won't Jeremy Shockey to play with what he has right now because that emotion is what what's driving this team he is the emotional leader for this team he also brings a lot of attitude to this ballclub he has as you can see he has 18 catches for 230 yards he is a guy that does not shy down from anybody so he to me he's a guy that you want to play football with he's just like the micro Irvin the giant fan won the arm wrestling at the beginning of our show and the wou team has won this time this game 11 straight in this series our picks coming up [Music] [Applause] [Music] ladies [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] it's been a season of character test for the Atlanta Falcons October another one on this Monday night with the Giants in town the Georgia Dome I brought my Torito welcome to Monday Night Football the Giants they gave the New York City head rival headline writers enough turmoil last year to keep them busy all year look like they're heading down the same path with an O and to start they've won the last three a win here they're only a game behind Dallas the NFC East race looks pretty tasty meantime the Falcons they are one in four three of those losses coming by seven points more or less look the Falcons from the Michael Vick controversy right throughout have had issues to deal with in this week it was the question of how tighter things in the locker ooh Joey Harrington is their quarterback pulled at the end last week the fire in left which the number three tonight Harrington's under center but Tony Kornheiser Rock Dworsky it's not easy for him in front of them two players making their first ever NFL start at tackle good luck yeah Joey will see pressure tonight and when you look at the New York Giants of New York Football Giants under new defense of Greater Steve spagnolo they are about a blitz pressure right now Michael Strahan OCU minora they are salivating why you may ask given Tony why there you go well Strahan is the Giants all-time leading sacker he goes up against placing claim but getting his first start in the NFL flip this around at the other side Oh see you manyara he's going up against April he drafted three agents Bernardo Foster and remember this the last time human Europe went up against a first-time starter it was Winston Justice of the philadelphia 'ls in that game human you're had six acts well for his a Giants quarterback Eli Manning things have gone okay with lexical bars especially the last few games Eli usually quiet in the background but Tony woman if just play what if what if he followed some of his other former giant and current Giants he made recently Tiki Barber and Michael Strahan have written books criticizing everyone in sight it can't be long until Eli writes one two entitled what about me I imagine it would sound like this I turned my back on San Diego for this.for backstabbing teammates at a lunatic coach about Tiki knocking my attempts at leadership saying they were almost comical here's what's comical that bald shrimp trying to interview people on The Today Show he stinks you don't want tikis on the fourth hour because there's no fifth hour and Strahan put an overrated windbag that gap in his teeth is from talking too much he can't carry OCU menorahs jock Coughlin a control freak why do we have to be five minutes early to his meetings maybe that's why we jumped offsides all the time because we're always early and what kind of name is plex ago that sounds like a pharmaceutical company what's his brother named Alexa Co Archie and Olivia overrated parents how do they like Maddy Leinart now that he's out for the season huh you know the speed limit all that old mrs. Archie's number 18 that's also as NFL quarterback rating and don't get me started about Big Brother Peyton mr. I'll endorse anything from money god he's an egomaniac last Christmas he sent me a tape of him on Saturday Night Live I hate that ESPN n where he kicks me in the behind I should've decked him do you know that ESPN paid him a hundred grand for that and they paid me scale dumbest thing I ever did was play football I should have been a veterinarian like I wanted that's of course what Eli would say other funny stuff tonight GP kid was going to do this here in the food in Atlanta and some of the soundtrack for Monday Night Football from Rock and Roll Hall of Famer sang [Music] this telecast available in high definition on ESPN HD presented by DLP HDTV Bobby Petrino used to work for Tom Coughlin they both have work to do with their teams for more on Coughlin story [Music] on the flame Strahan said to him you tell me hear me what you're losing your team do you hear me now finally gotten at the end of last season he told us it was ridiculous every headline was about me obviously it was something I needed to correct Strahan believe in Coughlin was the last person knew whatever change says even more extreme that he expected like you went from Android to human Coughlin is spending more time with his players they have a voice rules are there but more fans of all he's even telling jokes Falcon story here's Michele Tafoya well Suzie a couple of players went public with their frustrations about the coach and staff so the question here in Atlanta has Bobby Petrino lost his locker room a linebacker Keith Brooking a team captain has told me that's absolutely ridiculous but three-time Pro Bowl running back Warrick Dunn has said to me a college coach has used to doing things a certain way but we're grown men he's not coaching kids no one really talks to him he's always watching film there's not a lot of interaction in the meeting rooms but I think he's learning it's a long season and it can't be football all day long Pro Bowl tide and algae Crumpler one of the players who publicly questioned Petrino said the coaches asked him three times this week if he's doing ok Mike Cutler said that may be a sign something is changing Michelle with all the change we go for constants of the Alltel heads a head Giants punter Jeff Eagles plays his NFL record 310 straight game morten andersen extends his NFL record most games played at kickoff coming an open letter to Eli Manning quarterback of the New York Giants dear Eli you have the coolest job on the planet you play the marquee position in the biggest market in the NFL and yet we never hear from you with a quarterback former number one draft pick and yet nothing not a peep no Eli I played football I was adored by millions single-handedly led my team to a national championship well actually I was a freshman that year I only got in on two plays but the point is I know there's an energy like deep down inside screaming to be let out so we live Manning what do you have to say sincerely Dwayne the rock Johnson dear Dwayne thank you for your recent open letter in response I only have this to say new open letter dear Atlanta Falcons apparently Eli Manning plans on doing his talking on the field you guys better have a good game plan rocket if it pops off this over the last few weeks Eli of the opposites left to wait for moments as the Falcons in black take the field first against Michael Strahan Vijayan Steve Giants three and two Calkins one and off we go from Atlanta giant kickoff coverage has been a problem to the short kick fielded by chariots Norwood in a bluff down my dominick nixon who started this season returning kicks for the Denver Broncos so here's Joey Harrington former number three overall pick of the National Football League draft in 2002 by Detroit for frustrating ceases their a season of almost detox in Miami to get the Detroit experience out of him and Joey wasn't that he was a game under 500 with the Dolphins last year and remember a rookie was first time starting excuse me offensive tacos in the lineup tonight but sauce - done don't touch the nightly game six and a half so Cu manure comes off that defensive end and makes us stop stop [Applause] you'll see LJ Crumpler number 83 at top of your screen gets the down block to the inside that gives a little Running Room that's all you want to do get that little seam to the running back you don't get holes in the National Football League you get a seam and it's gonna be a night to give the takos help with tight ends and running backs the Falcons on offense again a six-second in floor the offset I hauled in by roddy white first down as at the 44-yard line pick up there eight yards this Atlanta offense has struggled thus far in their first five games limited to under 14 points again it's not exactly a house on fire offense in prior years but it's really struggled on the offensive side this year one first down counts as a big drive for them this year just they don't score any points and they don't work so the touchdown only bustle those fewer offensive touchdowns question shown two white again push down the running light eight of ten in front of Sam Madison leaving this team once enigmatic receiver in his first two years about twenty three balls in O seven excellent job by Joey Harrington understanding the Blitz was coming they went to the three step drop the ball is off his hand in 1.5 seconds but it'll stop throughout to Riley wait another first down the Atlanta Falcons I'm kind of surprised they are spreading their offense out you'll see right here a three wide look although Blake the number 85 has split at the top of the screen moment even goes wrong in experienced Raptors you would think they would think protection first they are not Blakely is Dwayne do a cool excited Harrington down the scene cut by Joe horn first down in front Sabrina Watson the 14 in a very so it drives Mountain jaws I thought that the tackles were vulnerable and these guys were gonna be in Harrington space the whole night line knocking him out and all that him in the face they were not there Tyson clay Bowl number 77 did an outstanding job on Michael Strahan pushed him to the outside Joey stepped up in the pocket his own defense Joe horn read that nice little hole sat down and Joey threw it perfectly great five his opening drive back to the ground and the 11 year Antonio appears to tackle here the tent starters surrounding Joey Harrington call the South Kings office starting with the offensive line making his first start in the NFL Bernardo Foster at left guard we got Justin Mookie Blaylock at center is Todd McClure right guard king of fluorine and a right tackle is Tyson clavo our skill position players are made of a core group of veterans led by algae Crumpler Joe horn in the back stood out with controls off drops one comes to mind last year when the younger Jim Mora was the head coach here in Atlanta against New Orleans when white dropped a short touchdown Mora went down to a knee it was memorable moments from last year Bobby Petrino's seen white catch more balls this year but he couldn't hang on there to be fair for two years he was a bust yet only 59 catches total three touchdowns and none last year so this year it seems like he's from heaven it's about a so he's getting opportunities he did drop that ball until he made a nice read back side of the cluster formation found the isolation route Roddy dropped the ball way clock running down Giants will bring pressure on a passing down Robinson rookie didn't but the second foot Robinson the third round pick out of Illinois State one foot in second one not out goal attempt coming you'll see LaRon go up grab some football one in bounds one out of bounds you need them both in bounce an excellent effort by LaRon on that pitch almost came up with in Robinson going high Tony just couldn't get the toes down where comes the man who scored the most points in the history of the National Football League 47 year-old Morten Andersen to kick a 47-yard field goal but symmetry in that the Michael Tiemann hold isn't long enough yes it is that's like a golfing you can suit your age it's good [Music] Morton Anderson's goal is doing the oldest player to play in NFL history that was George Blanda at 50 he's the second oldest in just doesn't a flake form forty seven and a half and get Joey Harrington who had three of five on that drive and his team on the board first I said he cleared it by one inch he didn't clear it off but she didn't clear it it hit the bar so I guess we know the limit on his range look I'm ever back in 1983 when I was playing with the soil Gordon Anderson kicked a 53-yard on overtime to beat us 24 years ago to break where that is on him Rueben Droughns back to the Kickham he's old enough to have beaten you where the kick is a game virtually that's my welcome drones have mercy by Tony Taylor the linebacker Giants and eli mapping will take over at their own 27 yard loss [Music] another in a series of dry beautiful days outside today and this evening here in downtown Atlanta as the Giants get their first crack on offense Eli Manning in a drive start from his own 27 yard line [Applause] big Brandon Jacobs back to the starting lineup Susy runs to the left side Jacobs who was injured in the Dallas game missed three plus games now coming back had 100 yards against the Jets and he's shaken up that very first carry here tonight the Giants have evolved into a power running team and why not when you have a brandon jacobs at 264 nadara Gordon we'll come in now as they look at taken on the sidewalk [Applause] SiC inside and Michael Matthews back Atlanta Georgia Tech alum past here down here with the Falcons getting in the way of Eli Manning who is 23 and 21 in his career as a starter we see his numbers on the season had a very poor start to the game against the Jets on Sunday the strong second half as the Giants beat the Jets 35 to 20 [Applause] sinara Moss gets the receiver's stream got a block from shocky and some offensive line blogs as he's pulled down by Michael Foley the spot is very close to the yellow line I think the short of the first down sonorus Moss is very quit not quick and I believe in this game you'll see a little package developed for him to get him the ball on the perimeter you'll see him right or getting the ball there's a kick-out block from shocky so Norris Moss tries to cut up inside he does but just a hair short it looks like in the first down see a nice kick-out block by number 80 Jeremy Shockey so Norris mom's right there has to dive drive of course he's not the biggest guy in the world that underneath five pounds but they need to lay out a full foot short and Tom Coughlin will send out the plumbing units and Johnny so this Falcon defense probably the least talked about of the four units tonight doing a good job in the opening series also they get you know rod Coleman who has been out back at that tackle position it gives them a better rotation Mike that's always to keep good defense on the defense line like to rotate six and seven players up there keep refresh rag deep to receive Adam Jennings you saw the number for Jeff Eagles 63 thousand eight hundred yards punting that's enough to punch from Giants Stadium to John F Kennedy International Airport in Queens and a four miles left over 36 miles of pucks he gets run into you here and I markers down the team it's running into the kicker [Music] [Applause] one of the defense Williams going for the block extends to drive for the Giants of the 15-yard flight can you go back over that thing from Kennedy Airport to Giants so what was that adventure here's the flag the protected kicker and you go into him like that certainly continuing the dive it's an easy call to the 15 yards about 63,000 yards and miles okay would be punting some giant stadium to JFK in New York and then four miles left over I never heard an express bike that way before peoples is the oldest punt in the league right and what Madison is old enough to be his grandfather that's how old Morten Andersen but he draws the flag the big mistake keeping a giant drive alive and taking them into Falcon territory for the first time [Applause] pressured had to get rid of it all [Music] kick out of Arkansas the burrito brawl here's the sentence Shawn O'Hara with the rest of the giant office starting on the left side the real deal still hurting from the io loss then everyone's favorite rich soy bird to the right Chris no mercy Snee followed by Suge Knight sign in wild child receivers the doors and Plaxico of no practical at quarterback who's had two passes knock down spirits tonight already by the southeast the Derrick Ward searching only game helps clean it up with michael bully in there i mentioned those two passes not down to the line of Eli Manning the south goons had not had a cast knocked down by their defensive line all year the very issue here is hoping zinc because the first one that was knocked out is that smoke that we always talk about a running play was called Eli just stood up into the trying to throw the ball to flex diverse on the outside the last knock that was on a screen play [Music] trying to heat others [Applause] we pump as you see winding down in a tumor and burst to the touch and lose a pitchfork lexical virus and a first at 32 yard line it was a great lawn where he semicolon flex to Co not practice over because he doesn't practice because his ankle is bad he goes all week long without practicing comes out in the game and as seven touchdown catches this year wouldn't you like the guy like that turns no question but still runs have a guy to practice with you can see right there despite missing practice he ran an excellent dig route got the first down and even even with the sore foot he can plant in the ground and make that break and beat this graphically the first down the guns in the 32 [Applause] Rush's picked up the pass is complete to Amani Toomer in Quechua sending the first down there and here's the Atlanta defense with lawyer Milloy the veteran safety on the intro welcome today till Mike dock deeper salon we got Grady you don't eat that Jackson we got D pizza in John I'm gonna get you sucker Abraham that middle linebacker we've got George's own homegrown keep Brookins at the Sam linebacker we got Michael to smooth bones the secondary we have Seppo claim doesn't that's all said you got me verse with the cats right in front of the opposite corner Lewis Sanders and he games about five yards it'll be second and five just to clean up the lawyer Milloy introduction of himself as Oh Slayer that's his gamertag and I know you guys know what that means right Asher Mike but don't know his release when he gets away from football to go play video games hotline like Xbox and post Slayer is his gamertag so did you see Oh Slayer online it's worth and I asked our sons [Applause] second 2017 Derek Ward's time for the injury the penalty becomes [Applause] we do [Applause] Suzy Kolber like we saw Brandon Jacobs come off the field after the first series holding his shoulder he immediately meal when he got to the sideline surrounded by team trainers the team doctor they tested his left shoulder they rolled his neck and he winced and pain but then walked away with his helmet appeared to be okay they're calling it a burger and he's back in the game Casey's it's just 26 calories before Jacobs in the first because of the knee injury check it in 10 after the slide [Applause] it's on shocky in the middle so 12 yard line excellent job by Eli Manning the Giants overloaded their formation to the left they do cover it to the left side he reads that Cubs coming over he comes back to the right and there's Jeremy Shockey doing a nice job of sitting in the whole wide open does he shock he right here gets a good release back to the inside he feels his own coverage really good job is sitting in the hole he'll I saw it all the way force different giant receiving attention drive kept alive by the Jacob seeking of the pig back [Music] 364 264 is bigger than all but one linebacker on his own team if you saw me he walked into a room saying you go over by the tight ends of the defensive ends not the running backs if I saw him walk into a room I would get out of the room simple as that give him whatever he wants what he wants very effective running the football to the white side behind kiss me the white terrific season [Applause] Hitchcock offset to the right leaving the way of the play-action pass for a touchdown by Amani Toomer his first touchdown of the season and the Giants take the lead on a tumor six pointers if you are Bobby Petrino you say this happens it seems every game that drive is kept alive by a ridiculous penalty personal foul you know nailing the kicker mailing the punter and then the Giants take a big lead here and they lose games by the way by one touchdown or fewer points than that yeah that's interesting Tony on the touchdown pass it was de Morial Williams who had the personal file that was a linebacker that got sucked in by the play-action fake and allowed tumor to get behind him Amani Toomer a Giants record that is for a half-century tape out of that was a break back up Monday Night Football in Atlanta the Giants trying to get within a game at Dallas of the NFC's come down the field and get a touchdown after Atlanta open with a field goal but touchdown the 40th career touchdown reception for Amani Toomer ties the legendary kyle wrote a record that has stood for a half century the most touchdown receptions in the New York Football Giants history when I grew up in New York and we know the name Kyle Road we also know about Kyle Road is that he was so well thought of by his teammates over long period about ten or twelve guys name their sons caught right after his right he was that well for them I'm have to say I'm sort of stunned that the record was that small given how long the Giants have been around all over the forty eight another short left hiccup this is by design tonight for the giant door ones from the ship's team got across Zoomer third time this career that he didn't catch a pass last week catches a money one here tonight ESPN's Monday Night Football is brought to you by Budweiser the perfect balance of flavor and refreshment open up a world of taste Mazda always the soul of a sports car Men's Warehouse you're going to like the way you look visit tmw calm for the store nearest you and zurich because change happens paint restaurants of varsity the busiest airport in the world Hartsfield International Airport key to the city Atlanta Georgia downtown look at this city on this Monday night [Music] each team scored on its opening possession the Falcons a field goal the Giants a touchdown big blue up for and secure school one would pick speed of the field [Applause] great block by Laurent Robinson the receiver remember last year on a 90-yard ward gun touchdown run against the Giants in this building when you have big runs it's because receivers are working downfield watch LaRon Robinson hustling great effort gets the block on Sam Madison allowing Jarius moment to take it to the house the point eighteen seconds after the giant star the second year man out of Mississippi stay curious [Music] explosive scar here in the Georgia go senior citizens Bunz eternity penalty's keepings rajala guys developing the reputation of a home run hitter in chair last year were the number one team in rushing in the league obviously they lost a lot of yardage without Michael Vick this year they've been 22nd rushing they're the only team in the league that has not at 100 yards rushing as a team all season the only one they got 75 now there's going to be their best offensive rush however Tony a year ago they were dead last pass they're better than shirt on football and you want to have a more balanced offense by cold rose by David irons irons stoned them but couldn't knock them down finally drones came down to twenty nine and here's the slide during the return holding over 42 of the receiving in your penalty to get [Music] to start back at their own nineteen jaws takes us back to the score I really like the design of this play you'll see little window dressing with Duane Blakely coming in frost and formation that means Matthias Kiwanuka is gonna come cross as well it's kind of softens up the edge a little bit right there and allows al Jake buffer to get a good down block I'm Michael Strahan once he gets to down block you see the Tyson plate will come around seal it and then you have that attained the nollie has Vince Lombardi would like to say Barty plugged in the night [Applause] Raven Jacobs has big room he takes it out to the 37 yard line pickup of 19 and here's Michele Tafoya just a lot of excitement on the Falcons sideline guys and you look at Joey Harrington he was standing there watching the replay on the big board saying wow wow of that that Jarius Norwood touchdown I felt like this offense felt relieved that they didn't have to go right back out onto the field and work anymore they just got a little bit of a break the offensive line the youngsters get to talk a little bit more and Jerry as Norwood welcome to the bench with lots of applause big tips James last year came in fourth quarters of games one of the first lines running to the water picked up of five from the big bag for big blue you know the constant for the Atlanta Falcons so far this season a disappointing season has been their defense right now the offense came out with a big play they've got this crowd back in hood the defense must bow their backs and get a stop the offense has been virtually non-existent they're 28 he's scoring in the league until that point they'd only had five offensive touchdowns the whole year the future [Applause] but to try [Applause] pick up the b-team Mike you said it best he had lots of time Eli Manning back in the pocket and a very comfortable cradle to throw from it allowed Plaxico Burress to work deep down the field this is an 18 to 20 yard in the quarterbacks gonna need about three seconds to throw the football look at that pocket he'll I can plant step and deliver the football with tremendous velocity if he gets back [Applause] six five seven eight shucky on the through the secondary 17-yard Chris Crocker brings him down of a giant plays of 19 20 and 21 on this Drive can you say explosive after the New York Football Giants offense is right now I'm so excited it's Arsenal fans so yes we got yards just we have to do if it ain't you at some point officially marked back at the 18 [Music] [Applause] yes tumor at the water first jingo getting worked on here first we going to one really nice job by Amani Toomer sensing the sidelines he plants the left foot and drags the toe with the right foot and what a throw from Eli Manning play-action the left wolves out to the right by sometime and Amani Toomer does an outstanding job along the sidelines every day this is worked on in practice targets are getting so excited but it's nice when things will work out actually worked [Applause] [Music] let's take this out a little bit wider this is what New York Giants fans have waited for tan Eli Manning be this kind of quarterback can he respond when another team goes the length of the field even if you only do it in one play will he bring his team steadily down the field twice now Eli Manning has shown giant fans who are very critical of him that he is a number one quarterback there is a big time response right Joe has responded as you said in a very the laces were facing him that was not a good snap hole but he's able to make it through 14 10 Giants well you saw a couple of big plays by Eli Manning coming on play action that is nothing to play action passes the passer rating for Manning look at oh and then oh six and then oh seven significantly better and of course the passer rating is that one number that encompasses all the stats the attempts the completions the touchdowns the interception percentage so much better on play-action than all the other passes and two big ones there tonight on play and Mike there's a reason for that we tend to forget this only the fourth year for Eli Manning when you use play-action passing it eliminates probably half the field we go to either or reading you stick the ball out you make your play fake your back is to the defense you have to turn around and locate the coverage and receivers so coaches don't give you too much to read you come out either throw it here or throw it there and he's very effective doing that you make the point that it is only his fourth year but no other quarterback in the league is burdened by being the younger brother of Peyton Manning and so much is expected of Eli Manning all the time every time he has a drive like that people in New York think this is this the turnaround game the time that Eli Manning turns the corner and blossoms into the great quarterback that his name requires him to be that's a lot of pressure jaws that's a lot of pressure but buddy he has played well he hasn't played poorly or he hasn't played I'm saying he doesn't get the four years that a normal four year for that idea is that I think perhaps less because his name is Matt this time a line drives harry returnable kid where the touchdown a moment ago tackled at the 24 by Zach deeossie son of Steve deeossie former jock dear Susan like as the rock said in the beginning of the show Eli Manning's leadership skills have been publicly criticized but if you want to know the difference between perception and reality just ask his teammates they say there's no doubt that he is in command that he shows leadership in the locker room and on the field and they marvel at how well he's handled the scrutiny and the pressure of New York much more pressure than Payton Ward dad Archie ever had the handle it's simply that he likes to keep things in-house so he never really hear his voice but in the locker room they hear the voice of a hear laughter after the voice very funny got in the locker room pouchy Clough there was not here in Atlanta the most vocal of the disgruntled folks that they catch from Joey Harrington and a gain of nine in front of Mathias Kiwanuka so Crumpler opened up his mouth last week after another frustrating loss and of all the players here he was the one most upset when we crossed the 50 where the worst offense in the NFL to be critical of it but he was accurate you see last in the NFL four touchdowns 32 possessions when they cross midfield michael strand Algie Cooper's the captain on the his teammates think so much of him that they elected him captain now when he says we're the worst offensive league once we cross the 50 who's not a shot at it's a shot at the coach Bobby Petrino who calls the plays and was brought in here to be an offensive minded guy and that becomes a problem when your captain says that okay he should quit whining and play that would be my response to that this a team that is still developing under Bobby Petrino loss they are third in two Harrington quick toss is complete for the first down - Michael arch over on Robin 37 yard line I understand you say that as a former player but I know you understand when a captain does that that's a serious thing the veterans on this team have felt a disconnect from the coach and come to wondered aloud last week whether there was not a phasing out of the veterans on the steel oh really a new coach comes in I don't care if you're a rookie or a 10-year veteran you have to perform this is a performance business if you're not performing you're going to be gone that Center [Music] first down throw by the flow back of a new Haley formerly of the Baltimore rings only a gain of a yard Kanika Mitchell makes the tackle on that will brain very exciting first quarter to an end so our fourth corner in Buffalo just carry on back to bill 269 yards 24 points combined to the first [Music] it's been a great start here in Atlanta on Monday Night Football with the Giants leading the Falcons 14 to 10 falcons took the first drive scored a field goal boom Giants come back with a touchdown South goons go 67 yards with one run by Jarius Norwood Giants respond with a touchdown and this is the next drive second and nine as the quarter begins for Joey Harrington in the one in four founders owned is plenty of room for the grab a couple yards shy of the first down Sam Madison making the attack mentioned Atlanta getting off to this one and four start they lost their first where he really got beaten by Minnesota 24 three of that one put down hill at the end two defensive scores by the Vikings late in that game the bounce-back boosts Jacksonville 13 7 when here finally after losing to Carolina had beat Houston 26 16 they've been closing a lot of these deals it's the one thing that people have to remember when you look at the one at 41 third in the couple Harrington first option not opens and brought down by the Giants pressure we're robbing the defensive tackle gets it and enforces the apropos of your point Mike when you start out badly like that and you have all the collateral damage of michael vick hanging over your head people looking at you wondering if these teams gonna be any good and you put a rookie coach in that position and he comes out of a recent college background veterans may look at him and say what does he necessarily know about the NFL and they are quick to judge whereas if they won they'd accept all of these new things in the Bobby Petrino Bureau but after this punt I do need to respond to that sure Oh it was 35 no return Bill Belichick and New England start out Owen Forrest first year they went five and look came back the second year and started out one in three they want a Super Bowl be patient with your head coach ESPN's Monday Night Football is brought you by idea when you're ready to stop talking innovation and start doing visit ibm.com slash do UPS what can Brown do for you Verizon Wireless text MVP to 3404 ESPN MVP only from Verizon Wireless and the United States Marine Corps the few the proud the Marines [Music] on the edge of this downtown Atlanta Georgia area is the Giants and Falcons a series that the bro team has predominantly routine is one will last a led meetings TV giants and the southeast and it's a record comes back to lead the way for Jarrett ward into the waiting arms of Grady well Mike back to this one in four start for the Falcons I talked with defensive end John Abraham who was previously with the Jets and he said I've been on teams in this situation he's possibly referring to 2005 where the teams started one in three finished four and twelve he said I know when a team lacks that will to win but this is not the case now we're close we're fighting we have a winning mentality we believe we're not done Falcons team is the veterans [Applause] rejection Ranas he studied still to this game I've shown up as a consistent big time factor like he was on that long big is the key word right there my Grady Jackson is a plugger he plugs up the whole inside here the penetration cookies way to stop the running game this good guy number 90 Grady Jackson six-foot to 245 pounds in the backyard he'll make the play that's why he's big there's a lot of snack in that goes into 3:45 and I think that might get child alike [Applause] and a lot of time the balls have it out of his hand these are the fumble or an incomplete pass no whistle is blown so it's a fumble as Abraham came around covered by Chris Crocker [Applause] well you'll see it right here John Abraham up against David deal comes around the backside whacks the ball out of Eli's hand target is right here it looks like the ball came out before his arm was moving forward Tom Coughlin's will challenge that a replay was not shown on the booth on the screen here in the Georgia Dome your Giants have challenging the ruling on the field that it was a fumble so pufferty went over to last week in challenges will challenge here but doesn't he usually win the challenge it's got a very hard percentage so it's looking to get off the schnide but here for Leslie is knocked out on the quarterbacks hand before his hand started forward [Applause] [Music] and I'll only have one challenge remaining Tom Coughlin's disbelief for this replay will clearly show what believe he was talking about this is an unbelievable shot right here you see the hand still coming back when Abraham hit the ball clearly out of his hand before Eli's motion started forward fall out of his hand right there see the palm coming forward without the football clearly a fumble so Abraham is credited with the sack there's a fumble on the play in the recovery by Chris Proctor gives it land in the ball great field position at the Giants 28 yard line and the veteran Warrick Dunn loses three yards is OCD manure comes in to make the tackle Michele Mike I spoke to John Abraham before the game asking him whether it was motivated because of straight handing human you are being on the same field he said the answer I want to give is no but the answer is yes I feel like I got outwork those guys they're gonna try to get to our quarterback like crazy I'd like to do the same because this is gonna be a tough game for us he wanted to be politically correct like he just couldn't growing in the opener last year limited to a half season after being traded and signing a big free agency extensional shitty parenting ticks off we get to the those tackle made the plug it's just like in baseball though how many times is the person the Michele Tafoya has just finished talking about reach out and cause a fumble to get his team story how many times I'd say this time at least good that was very opportunistic on the show spot [Applause] third and a dozen from here a field goal is about 47 yards and as we saw in the first quarter that is right at the edge of Morten Andersen giant spring pressure no passing down again in the past is incomplete as daljeet Rumple is locked up with our net like the giant actually to move the job of disguising their coverage there I think they got Joey here and get a little bit traumatic in the pocket they showed that seven-man blitz they only rush for dropped in the coverage got Joey a little bit out of whack on that this is at 48 right so this is not quite in his wreckage if the last look as an indication it's the bars and clothes that there's no wind going either way let's say trying out kinky change the 47 year old Anderson lower trajectory from 48 he's short so the turnover turns into no points and the Giants hold off [Music] as anywhere you go of some Giants fans on hand here at the Georgia Dome Giants and Falcons meeting as they did one season ago on this very day Giants beating Atlanta 2714 stopping at Atlanta three game in these series fatigue materials [Applause] manning from the 38 they use with a short completion of just a couple yards Keith brookie makes the tackle SportsCenter 3230 good Steve Lee Mike as you know 40 is the new 30 and 40 year old Kenny Lofton plenty of life and his daddy's got the big blow in the games and had a two-run home run and IANS lead the Red Sox poured enough thing at the top of the seventh game three of the ALCS the Rockies will vote for the suite shortly over on the National League NFL news Titans quarterback Vince Young MRI today on that strain right quadricep muscle Jeff Fisher saying he's day-to-day SportsCenter coming up after the game Mike thank you skate caring at all times be spm knees but in the 40s jacobs running left [Music] raised in the area college over at Georgia Tech down the street and now 10 years here with the South groups makes the time a very active line back with a middle linebacker you run in those counter misdirection plays must need quick they keep booking did an outstanding job right here the play goes away from besides this is playing away google it down the running guy [Music] 14 with somebody off the field issues fans have been very supportive these third-down situations tonight [Applause] throws complete for the first down - attention - Falcon territory to the 43 pick up terrific play by Eli Manning he was flushed from the pocket he extended the plate you'll see here comes the pressure up the middle from John Abraham he moves out does not panic and delivers a strike to a Monty tumor real nice job by Eli being patient once you get outside the pocket resetting his feet and delivering the football that's ten consecutive completions a single-game career-high he had nine consecutive completions in that big comeback last year Philadelphia and then completed his first pass the following hitch in his tent equals a career-long stretch now looking downfield and first breaks free put circle force again time this year science sucks play-action sets up a 43-yard store [Applause] people say of Manning has been brought up a bunch of times is he a leader is he not a leader one of the thing he gets us from ex-teammates like Tiki Barber one of the things about leadership is it here's a guy who's playing hurt this both these guys are actually playing hurt Manning hurt his shoulder in the first game people thought he would be out let's go burst plays once a week in the games they now have eight touchdowns so far this year between got caught coming up on first and first said Baba sleep by 11:00 as bursts takes it to the house for the eighth time this year on excellent play designed by Kevin Gilbride the offense coordinator you see maximum protection on the play-action pass that's gonna allow Plaxico Burress time to work down the field he gets inside a Chris Houston he gets man-to-man basically out of safety that safe being lawyer Milloy who is frozen by the play-action fake every time you get a wide receiver matched against the safety he is going to win Plaxico Burress did an outstanding job of running his round off lawyer Malloy's feet he stopped his feet flat spot right over the top freaking throat - I might add so bursts from many to the eighth time this year Manning's numbers eye-popping tonight those are patient numbers tonight picked short and left the Falcons accounting markers going what's taken out about Jarius pushed to the sidelines 29 during the return holding number 85 receiving team then your penalty spot of the foul first half so as the falcons move back let's take you back to perspective over the last two-plus seasons now since o-5 quarterback to receiver tends 25 touchdowns Peyton Manning to Marvin Harrison tied with Eli Manning to flex it over that that's Thunder because you think of Peyton Manning t'market Harrison has as good as against because it you know Randy Moss hadn't gotten to New England until this year and to think that Eli man he was always under such scrutiny as tying Peyton Manning but you've never think to put them in the same company with Peyton and Marvin Harrison you think that they'd be beyond reach so you see the birds numbers now and that eight touchdowns this year ties Randy Moss who had one yesterday and the Patriots went over Dallas for the most touchdowns in the National Football League through the first six weeks it's a long conversation he might let me pull it out for something you're good you're really good do it again let's go guess what maybe was getting a pizza Tigers Randy deep one more after a 3 yard work done run he tries the right side of the third and manageable for near Suzy Kolber Lexus performers even more impressive when you consider because of the ankle the only time you like practice together is two hours of the game you see them here tonight it's working right now but everybody kind of wonders if this would be more of an issue later in the season is right now the routes are simple they're making it easy but it's tough to contribute later on when a little more complex in the offense Kevin Gilbride has expressed concern about that you may not be able to grow in this all the offensive coordinator took over at the end of last year for the Giants for John Hufnagel me-time the Falcons offered seats to sustain and it's dropped by the veteran Joe horn will set up for but Susie said about the practices to port practice we're talking about practice here not the end of a practice if this if let's go first can go out and score touchdown every single game cause they're not going to care if you practice yeah you know what's interesting Vinny Testaverde yesterday came in on Wednesday of this week practice for days and plates anomalies and most offensive court as we say it takes two or three years to learn my system Michael came in with the punch 50 yards on the nose RW mcquarters with rooms in the 20s for returns at 9 so the net is 41 yards to tire the Madigan burst eight times to the end zone that for the field when you return [Music] best matchup of week 7 on Monday Night Football from Jacksonville the undefeated Colts against David Gerard Maurice jones-drew and the four and one Jacksonville Jaguars remember our suit memorable Monday night's down there how great the folks in Jacksonville were heck crowds gonna be rockin we'll see through Eastern Knicks Monday and I can't wait to get down to Jacksonville and watch Maurice jones-drew at work 12 carries for a buck 25 and two scores against a Houston team that heat Jacksonville twice last year a 20-point response and do you remember guys the last time the Colts went down to Jacksonville whoo yeah Jones true in a big game they ran for 375 yards as a team and beat the Colts 44 to 17 so we're getting back to back Maness yes week to week then if Archie comes out of retirement seeing what a fitting Testaverde did maybe two weeks from now Archie will be in again the man made the tackle Corey McIntyre is the player is shaken up as good special teams player where's the special teams captaincy for these Falcons and he is helped off to the far sideline it's a lot of guys we're in captaincies now in football used to just be in Hawk mounts in every sport it really helps the seamstresses of a mark that has so these things on it big series for the Falcons Dean it is a bit on the ropes Giants have moved the ball very well leading 21 to 10 man incompletes at the Derrick Ward who's almost here another first down that's 12 consecutive completions for Eli Manning the Giants have run 25 plays and picked up a dozen first downs here on the night he like looks very very comfortable setting in that pocket good pass protection seeing the field with great clarity delivering the football accurately looks very sharp don't it's out in the Falcons defense all day yeah I thought that was the constant of their team an offensive coordinator dream call second in one [Applause] tried to fight back to the first half Lauria williams who had a very tough sequence on the first drive the roughing the kicker penalty they kept the drive alive and then saw his nose in the backfield while the play-action went over his head for the touchdown he's able will make the stop there and keep the Giants shy of the first down because have a sandwich on the sidewalk [Applause] Pepi defensive line presents 4/3 less than er [Applause] you've been in fact the mark is going to depend on it the mark looks like a first down for 44 yard line talk to your mic I'm not so sure from our angle I'm gonna say bye - change - links on that chain didn't you see the yellow line watch with my eyes photo let's figure it out [Applause] with the 44 so we've seen Rueben Droughns and short yardage there Brandon Jacobs Derrick Ward just in this Drive here's the hole they're trying to fill Tok Tiki Barber's average season was 400 times having it run or thrown to him and 2000 total yards at nine touchdowns that was his average season over the last five just the perspective on the 400 and Chee runs twenty-five times a game that's a lot of balls you got a spread out and thus far especially in October the Giants up to the channel dropped by the second tight end the rookie from down here in Atlanta Georgia Tech Michael Matthews New York sports fans will be familiar with this analogy that five-year period is a Don Mattingly five-year pure that's good it's in us just a staggering sum where Tiki Barber essentially out of nowhere became this great back wins for those five years Hall of Fame numbers I'm not saying he gets into the Hall of Fame but in that period of time he was a great running back of him and I believe the Giants can replace the rushing yards on both them they can replace to do see the guys very versatile running back that drop by Matthew's stop Manning's completion string in a dozen nickel defense one of the D B's comes underneath sonars Moss is stopped at the forty nine he's going to be three yards shy of the first down it's third down coming now there's another issue the Tiki Barber of course maybe that Tiki Barber was very vocal he was critical of coaching he was critical of other players inside the locker room right now some of the Giants players are saying okay [Music] - this kind of person [Music] man comforts on the receivers safety help behind the throw is caught from the first five first we'll use that big body in front of the rookie at the market saw Chris Houston to take it to the 41 yard line that's five tonight Tavares and Manning is lucky once again you'll see Eli Manning under duress does not break down slides just a little bit his left to allow Plex kober's to uncover terrific job once again you'll see plaques working over Chris Houston on the outside Houston a very good bump and run type corner but when the wide receiver gets that much time you can't cover him that long remember that I ain't will sprayed on the right ambles over to his position on the near side they seize the end Giants can take a timeout here at the 3:51 one obviously with the attention on the big matchup with the undefeateds yesterday Randy Moss and Terrell Owens their numbers were in the forefront right throughout but let's go burst right up there past Owens in all the production columns and nowhere near monster the catches in yards would equal when it matters getting into the end zone we asked them about that yesterday said are you bothered by this said no not at all and he said of Eli he flows it over here meaning to him for a reason because he can go up and get it right jobs that excellent job by Fox diverse honors and route running and he started to learn he understands what it takes to stem a route Todd let's give Eli Manning that hint of when he's coming out of his break so he lied to deliver the football it's amazing to me very talk fast they are not practicing Auggie if that's absolutely amazing they usually a quarterback and a wide receiver have to have the chemistry and it's used developed via practice the Giants call timeout if one remains the yeast one for a challenge its first in check play action when he's been good once it all one first again incomplete as the Angelo Hall was covering at the help coming back from Chris Crocker the free safety that's one of those situations where Eli Manning really trusts Plaxico Burress there was really good coverage on plaques on this play you'll see DeAngelo Hall play him outside because he's got help to the inside but Eli's not afraid to throw the football even though Chris Crocker is coming from the inside he trusts that Plaxico Burress to take that 65 frame go up and just rip the ball from the sky but there was good coverage by the Falcons of flexco could not hold on they just see the size difference when the ball was in the air you can almost don't get it that will is really using that size much more to his advantage I don't think Giants beat the play clock here the cost of five a game penalty Josh you talked about that when you had Harold Carmichael now you know where he is on plays so you've got to be thinking I can throw a different ball here that I can where he's not no question about it when you develop that chemistry of what the player can catch what the widest Ebert can catch where he'd like to the football and how high he can get up you know a lot of guys you know they may be tall but they can't jump her they'll extend their arms you know Plaxico Burress when these guys he will go up with his hands he doesn't body catch the football she actually used the phrase in my heyday a long time ago [Applause] five makes the second at 15 here comes pressure little screen competed often times but a nice job by defensive lineman rookie 8th overall pick this year Jamaal Anderson to come back and limit the game the Giants who have third down about nine coming up the Falcon is shaken up it's John Abraham a brand was missed 31 games with his 7 NFL seasons dazed for the moment he spent a lot of years hurt you guys are talking about Burris a lot and I come back to his Pittsburgh days when Plex kober's was not as Abraham gets up and comes off under his own power first remember Shannon Sharpe called the plexiglas at one point he had a criticism of bad body language but really over the last couple of years on and off the field he's become a a leader a dominating player at times and stretches over the last two seasons we see the productivity really changed the impression people had to be during those early Pittsburgh days but Mike some of that was deserved he was not a guy that gave you great effort all the time coaching tape at NFL Films there were times he does not give you all he certainly was matured for he's not been coming out of the premier receivers in the game Falcons defense speech to get the Giants without points [Applause] gonna bring the heat now [Applause] cooking backs out in coverage Manning rolls it throws it and it is trucks when you leave mr. Norris moss in front of the Angelou ha Oh Jane to Miami in Florida one went to Virginia Tech I remember one game specifically where these guys had to hook up in their college days here's what you don't want to feed DeAngelo Hall you don't want to get a flag he's been through that and it cost him $100,000 did he get 67 yards worth of panel that is correct on one series earlier in the year so you don't want to just draw out somebody quite that much and risk a flag that it would have extended that drive nobody's punching morning nobody's pinned the opponent inside the 20 more than Feebles he does both there here's Michelle you know DeAngelo Hall told us before the season that he wanted to sort of fill the void left by Michael Vick in terms of leadership this was not a good way to start he got in a little bit of a joint situation with the coaching staff after three penalties for 67 yards against Carolina allowed the Panthers to score a touchdown he still tells me he thinks his leadership quest is going good he called that episode of setback he apologized for it he said that I understand personally I have to keep my composure it's set it back 100,000 in the fine human Europe pushes the pocket into Harrington hits them as he throws incomplete so OCU Minh you are working in able to get pressure ya know she finally got one of those individual matchups on Renato Foster you could see that he just blows him right back into Joey Harrington Joey did a nice job of stepping up and getting rid of the football but when you're not gonna give Foster any help he's gonna he's gonna die he's gonna get dominated by OC like a lot of people do which injustice in Florida last seven snaps the thousands of marriages they could not afford a turnover down here the pig run in the first quarter and it's filled out to the 30 Jarius Norwood touchdowns they've been big white cedar sixty plus yards of 70-plus yards the 67 yard touchdown to the southeast won't touch squeeze one more in before the two-minute warning pressure is Herrington on a quarter of blitz the first round pick out of Texas comes up with the sack as we reach the two-minute warning and send Tony off to prepare for PGI and top subscrible Council meeting that I have a half son Stewart's got here in Atlanta chris burrman back to the studio they'll take you through the Toyota halftime show boomers fastest three minutes and big plays and big games yesterday and pardon the interruption here in Atlanta Michael Wilbon joins Tony all coming up on the Toyota halftime show after the sack that was trended to Aaron Ross for half a sack and Michael Strahan without the sack adding to his Giants record total since 1982 it's second down at Harry under siege jeribai Antoniou piers and Joey is shaken up quarterback today's first Redman out of Louisville Byron Leftwich is the number three what Spears's the pressure comes in again Ron there's no question at Steve Spagnola of system in New York Steve Spagnola being the new defensive coordinator is about pressure overload blitzes bringing more people than you can block has been very effective on this Drive Mike on the Ross sack as well no question on the raw sack it was beautifully designed and to get sacks it's everyone working in harmony doing their job that Ross sack was beautiful we'll see that one a little bit again the story line coming in tonight is Harrington's on Annie and Redman the thirty year olds fifth year player at a Louisville who's been at the league for a couple of years to total hasn't completed a pass in 45 months might be getting his first snap since Bobby Petrino got to know him in 1998 Petrino is the offensive coordinator at Volvo might not have to come in because the Falcons did take a timeout let's look at Harrington here as he get to Pearse rolls up on that left ankle but Joey will stay in they're on this story coming into tonight for the two offensive tackles who had that started a game it's a club and the pressure and early on the Giants weren't able to bring that pressure this Drive extol district story don't we talk about Tyson play ball and Ranallo Corrado foster earlier their matchup but really Steve spec NOLA Giants defense been successful with their blitzing scheme 30 26 inside handoff coming you know we talk about pressure on Joey Harrington here you gonna see the defense working in harmony opening up the lane for ayrenn Ross it's everyone doing their job this sack was created by the help of Aaron Ross his teammates opening up the lane for him I'd love to use the term working in harmony just see it right from this angle look at that alley open up for Aaron Ross does a great job right there Steve Spagnola the defense coordinator loves to come after the quarterback there's Steve on the sidelines there he came that Jim Johnson the system in Philadelphia where they use those overload zone puts their glitches but they're safe they keep the safety in spender feel they taste you do beat the Blitz by the quarterback getting a ball out of your hand it's only gonna be a short game not that it's 50 60 out explosive play Steven Giants took a timeout a minute 46 left real chance to get field position add to their 11 point lead with RW mcquarters back for human yura Strahan tough the rest of the front did the job on that series and now Michael Canaan will kick runs up to make a fair catch on a 40-yard punt and it's Giants ball at the 45 with no timeouts in a minute 39 to go I would expect to probably see some play-action passing because it's been very effective so far here you see the ball extension to Brandon Jacobs tomorrow will him sucked in on the play fake he can't get back a mining children with the touchdown this is beautifully designed as well the play-action fake eli sets up beautifully the popular maximum protection he's got plaques Gophers match against lawyer Milloy I should say mismatch against lawyer Milloy the play-action had been very very effective for Eli Manning and the New York Giants tonight five for five look at those numbers heading to the numbers we showed earlier who sucks a good passer Warners the back searching for space yard Johnson Babineaux which tonight come to innovate to tackle strange right knee ligament Carolina the times out of timeouts second attack go to check agenda war like this an area of the game this bar elias trumpet he has thrown six interceptions this year three have come in the final two minutes before the half so I would expect right now if he'll I doesn't see a clear throw he's not gonna force the throne we talked to Coach Coughlin we talked to Eli yesterday this is an area there ain't pop you sit up where Eli has made some mistakes trying to be too cute sometimes [Applause] against the four-man rush on 3rd and 10 Manning throws on the run tashaki Jeremy cannot get to the first down will the Falcons use a timeout Giants haven't the 46 it's fourth and one we'll just play it out she would Tom profitable to you they don't get this the Falcons Pinkett about 40 seconds to go left side first down to the 41 here the chives tonight see if they get up for just clapping here and they will with 28 seconds remaining so the Giants get settled for second and linear logic tomorrow night on ESPN at 270s 360 premieres go inside the world of ESPN see cutting edge reporting team behind the scenes quarter there were 40 experiences like the Smith Tom fairy Rachel Nichols Jeremy shap and Lisa Salters with that including a sit-down with Cecil Fielder the number princefield that had the huge potential MVP season of a nationally estranged essentially very difficult relationship with Cecily - Cecil is one of the stories on east 60 debuting tomorrow night on ESPN [Applause] it's intercepted there it is again Ron in the last - it's Michael bullies who had a big defensive plays for the Falcons last week Pink's Manning on 40 yard line it's just that tight window once again he lacks - squeeze it into Michael bully the linebacker for the Falcons had a nice deep drop he has been having an outstanding season oh by the way Mike and you'll see him there he's reading me live he sees he lies eyes look into the middle of field and he's just reacts to the ball near holy second intercept see that Morten Andersen doesn't have a long leg Michael Caine and the punter who was a placekicker last year does he can kick a 60 yard field goal so with Joey Harrington back outs and timeouts the Falcons maybe 15 yards away from a field goal attempt they gotta get to the 43 or is done out of the backfield Atlanta with nine seconds remaining here's Michele Tafoya guys join Harrington has a left ankle issue but obviously he's in there playing but Petrino had a long talk with him after you hurt that ankle and came to the sideline and no one really knew until just before that or just after that interception who was going to come in and play quarterback was it going to be Harrington or is it gonna be Chris Redmond Redmond had been warming up Harrington a Redman both ran up to Petrino and you could see them saying who's going in who's playing he finally looked at Harrington and said are you all right to blame yeah Simon came in so readily retreated even Byron Leftwich was warming up on the farmer sidelines as if in earnest to go it was it was quite a scene down here guys wishful Thank You Byron the third quarterback here tonight they need nine or ten yards to give paint Keenan a legit try made one from 58 last year [Applause] less pressure coming Harrington gets rid of it gets it to work done who couldn't hang on there was intercepted by OSI human Europe who dropped in his zone blitz look Wow one second left in Harrington took a shot from the Giants pass rush and Kiwanuka well Joey's tough he hangs in there to the last very second Matthias Kiwanuka drills them into the ground quite honestly the Falcons wide receivers are dumping all over Joey Harrington how many key balls that they dropped so far at least three Mike two would have been first down so that would have had a chance to get him in field go around so now it becomes a Hail Mary play for the Enzo and the Giants retreat seven defenders back Harris has got by enough time to throw it downfield he watches jump ball he's gonna get it didn't reach the end zone it's intercepted by Aaron Ross he's pulled down by rowdy whites and we've come to the end of the first half Giants score three touchdowns in the first half get the ball to start the third leave the Southland by 11 here's Chris Berman with the Toyota halftime show Chris we're back for the third quarter here in Atlanta Michele Tafoya Suzy Kolber on the sidelines or on Jaworski Tony Kornheiser Mike Tirico here in the booth the Giants will receive leading 21 to 10 the Giants going for four and two on the season which would move them within a game of the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East Washington is at 3 & 2 they've already had their bye week the Giants buy comes in a couple of weeks after their game in London against and at the 22-yard line he's brought down Eli Manning had a very solid first half's matter of fact it was in a passive yards column only a career-best with 208 yards 17 and 25 at one point had a dozen consecutive completions two touchdowns that one pick coming in the last two by the way you have tickets for that London game they're hard to come by they went pretty far in about an hour they must have thought it was a Led Zeppelin concert in Planet going Tony that's across the park now most can't make it Thank You 23 Brandon Jacobs injured on that initial carry the first half kids 5 Suzy Kolber just before the end of the half that's the time that Eli seems to struggle this was the fourth time this season that he's thrown an interception in the last two minutes of the half good Tom Coughlin said to me in halftime that was clearly not Eli's fault and I'd like jaws to be able to comment on that but he said he also sort of lost his rhythm at the end of the half because they lost the perfect run pass mix that they've got the good thing is about Eli this season he really seems to have more amnesia than in the past and he can put stuff like that behind it Susy I would beg to differ with Coach Coughlin that was Eli's for to tighten look his Jacobs DeAngelo Hall up to get around on the side and get a first down at the 48 gain of 20 and on the offensive line Kris sneeze at a very good season had a good block on that one but there's no question if the Giants running game is going to be slowed down the cornerback to the Falcons must make someplace C Amani Toomer just pushing DeAngelo Hall down the field the Falcons are in that cover to shell so the coroner's have to become one defenders run players they are not making plays in the running game we have to get in front of that guy Jacobs that's our job but when he was not get in front of him play-action perfect on the night unable to find an opener receiver and throws it away incomplete here's Michelle spoke to Bobby Petrino coming out of the locker room at halftime he said Joey Harrington is still the starting quarterback their discussion before half-time had to do more with protection scheme than anything else he did acknowledge Barrington sprained his left ankle but he then said he's our guy he's good he's gonna come into scores quick touchdown he also said he wants to stay with the running game and stay out of third and long because that's when the Giants do their best work on defense guys we saw that that last series giantess live up Harrington and those two tackles making their first NFL start a tackle watch that when Atlanta gets the ball back with the drones runs to the left Jamal Anderson the number-10 pick Southie picofarads should say in the first round joins lawyer Milloy syntek alright the Falcons defense has worked hard to get the Giants into position right now the third down in the seventh situation this is where they have not been successful getting off the field they're going to need the pressure Eli Manning the knee situation Eli's been very difensa corner heat right here players in the box right now so it took thought for flex Burris - hi I think complete John Abraham flows down on Peyton Manning the lawyer Milloy was there as well of Malloy's shake it up Labor Ham has been solid through the first half and now you see him coming around the corner getting the pressure on Eli Manning they came with the total blitz it was a man-to-man on the outside they brought more defenders they being the Falcons then the New York Giants can block he had Abraham free at Eli Manning thus the incomplete pass he steam lawyer Milloy walking back there and Landon Jimmy Kimmel's gonna join us momentarily here in the booth lawyer Milloy who took a shot to the head as he was going down he walked over toward the giant sideline he's that shake up and finally a couple of Jack award-winning High Definition television [Music] city that hosted Super Bowl 28:34 Dallas beat Buffalo here's st. Louis beat Tennessee in the Georgia Dome just call the timeout Joey Harrington a good start a very good opening drive but after that the pressure closing in and lack of support jobs from the receivers no question about it though a lot of money invested a lot you see was you got to catch the rock very nice deflected in the air it's mostly incomplete as it was Fred Robbins has made a couple of plays tonight you think Joe is watching right now I'm sure you chose a big football I'm sorry was my mic cut off Tim oh really Joey Harrington one of his last seven Falcons offense has come to a grinding halt here first down much more rowdy white asian down cheerleader [Music] in the pocket white to uncover you'll see him come back under the inside does a nice job of getting some separation from Sam Madison have taken up the sidelines you'll see the quick release that's the key right there to beat the bump and run at the line of scrimmage Roddy White does that and takes off up the sideline and Jimmy Kimmel not to modify though no that was Sam Madison took him out of bounds like I said this is a great game the game is 38 South kids with breathing room and on play-action Harrington looking long [Music] [Applause] and the safety since and Madison on that beer side so to what do you think of the lead so far here with the New England and Indianapolis clearly the two best teams in the else fighting behind that's what they said they said you're playing in a league of their own which would be boring really it was just the two of them you know man has a brother in the end for once the left side use only I think we've seen Paton time does he I once saw him on a commercial that's how I know really yes TV on for five seconds recycle of ten thousand commercials he goes you're doing York and then you do that for wholly myself for a whole new hot smart great the third Nate Harrington has an open receiver it's hot epithet her Jo horn as a in Falken territory the 42-yard line is there any particular reason you would do that other than you you know what it really worries me that you guys think it's a bad idea because you guys fly all the time no no not Tony but okay I know you guys are all over the country constantly traveling and I would think that you'd be the few guys that would say oh that's not a bad idea but I'm beginning to worry that it is a very bad idea [Applause] 4:42 the type playoffs I waited for horny spinning mislead 12 years get in the sleep Joe horn has worked him over in the sidelines as Harrington rolled out they're gonna throw the sideline and of course Joe horn looking backed in the backfield then took it up the field and out on Aaron Ross grab him here you see the out route and I was gonna take it up the field and aaron ross does a real good job baby I'm not gonna the guy run by him for a touchdown I'll take the penalty you're talking to you when you say that you're pretending to be him right you're not saying that yourself right wrong Oh [Music] rhabdo met surprising defensive holding no flag look at it again we'll take it right here Joey with the play-action rolls up and his right he's looking for that out and up doesn't happen but clearly looked like Aaron Ross just grab Joe horn right there but they claim with Harrington outside the pocket which has made the call director of the most-viewed watch the Cleveland Indians defeat the Boston Red Sox four to take the two game 2-1 lead for the American League Championship Series here the Falcons leading or trailing the Giants 21 to 10 as Warrick ton carries the less than the half yard explosive first quarter Giants to the 14 to 10 lead eli manning razor-sharp in the first it puts the worse for a 43-yard touchdown at the beginning of the second quarter their eighth touchdown hookup of the year tying Moss and Brady for the most in the NFL and that's where we sit 21 10 the Falcons are one in four under first-year coach Bobby Petrino Giants started O&C looking for their fourth consecutive win to get of the Cowboys the NFC's welcome to Iseman watchman from this liberal with skin coming out of his ears for is pressured [Applause] for the fourth time tonight human euro was dinner with Justin Tuck the third year man another day you'll COC humanure now you're gonna get LT crook well that's a plate in trying to block human yard now he gets a little help from Foss are not going to get it done too much pressure on Joey Harrington now get excellent job of just compressing the pocket by the Giants defense in their four-man rush when you get in that long yardage situation you can use that much rush [Applause] by RW mcquarters at the 13 yard line 37 yarder [Music] Giants play San Francisco next week trying to get there with four consecutive wins waiting here twenty one to ten can I go back to the logic Jimmy well I'll do it after this play I want to ask about the community from of course it is rate Jimmy Kimmel Live Jacobson gain of about three I just you as you mentioned all over and Cleveland but here are some of the pretty pictures like Kenny Lofton going big fly that made it a two nothing Cleveland lead they go on to beat the Red Sox four to leave the series two games to one Tim Wakefield not Josh Beckett again for Game four tomorrow night as for the National League Rockies and Diamondbacks they're playing the NLCS right now Rocky's going for the sweep they are threatening diamond back to Chris Young picked off in the first acre with ESPN news SportsCenter after the game Mike the amazing Rockies they've won 20 of their lives 21 games science pushed into one more time complete to burst the ball comes out the play is blown day whistle blows for progress stopping it as a gain of a yard increase 60,000 of the Georgia go there are not 60,000 people here there's maybe six there were like 40 at the beginning of the game to do silver ball coming out heard the whistle so it doesn't matter what the replays show in regards to that the Giants got up to the line quick first down at the 35 yard bundle right at the line before first up Bobby Petrino not a happy camper right now who felt that was a fumble I believe biased definitely no question folks let's take a look-see all rip the ball out of the hands of Plaxico Burress right there the whistle had blown and forward progress was stopped Chinese retained possession I could put those babies first of the half first approaching another hundred yard game [Applause] Hitchcock got an order [Music] and the third year clear news on C Lewis's roster we've before the season got started picks up eight so with the Dallas loss yesterday to New England the Cowboys at five in the water the ferry defeated the Giants who could be within a game the Redskins have already had thereby they lost at Green Bay and Philadelphia beat the Jets they're - did you watch them to watch Dallas yeah my cousin sales of big Dallas but very upset Barrios I think great what great what do I think of him him I mentioned in the pregame show that we presses me mostly disabled that beats any Super Bowl Tremayne first down did you guys bet on this game now we've got on the third supermodels name the three do you are you allowed legally to bet on football games I mean no people have played a game obviously are but what about you guys the only Hawks sure I do it all the time run as a former NFL player are you allowed to bet on the game yes I could but I do not you don't yeah if I would be able to put pick a winner I would not be up here after 47 first down look at what called Amani Toomer thi Ohio the intersection gets away from tumor has room to run he's a great return guy down the sideline to our ha trying to pick up one more Blanca can scream and shinky trips him and that's a [Music] shopping loving himself for the interception you know you're allowed to show people number 80 of the passing team [Applause] [Music] Paul goes up together his second of the year and you can't have a little block if you're the offensive team after a pic you know you're unfit she's not allowed to do that by rule and it costs the Giants 15 [Music] Eli Manning talks with offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride about his second interception here of the night the Angelo Hall took it back the 15-yard flag on Jeremy Shockey brings the Falcons into Giants territory at the 40 teenagers Norwood games for let's go back to that interception excellent coverage by DeAngelo Hall you'll see him just in that little bail position and he gets on the hip of Amani Toomer and does a terrific job of running within the ball slightly under thrown the Angela straight ball skills goes up and just takes the football down but that's throw if you're Eli Manning it's got to be outside as we say in the Box toward the sideline but Dan Joe Hall great great catch and just to be clear on that blocking issue the flunked by shocking is on Chris Crocker who is blocking for DeAngelo Hall that's what you're not allowed everything is pink LG Cutler dropped a completer suit you know Mike Tom Coughlin's told us how one of Eli's faults maybe is he wants to make everything perfect and it's not a game of perfect after that interception he came to the sidelines and he was furious shaking his head cursing repeatedly but I'm pretty sure it was just mostly enough second pick the other one was thrown inside the two-minute mark of the first half he time Harrington who has been pressured and his numbers aren't good has had very little help from his receivers lots o drops to more pressure this lecture into treatment and it seems the guys that we've seen clapping tonight daisuki Winnetka brought the heat that time in fountains sent to the sidelines of the chorus of boos ra's worked his way off the field so Jimmy we were talking about Jimmy Kimmel's up here with us just to wrap up with you you are going to do reaches out yes pretty much back and forth across country are you host are you coast he reaches the show with Kelly yes Kelly and I and the Kelly's coming back to LA with me she's hot too south stopping the dairy star married belly also RW mcquarters with the fair catch at the age yes this is say goodbye yes goodbye thank you thank you I love you in metal messy Jimmy Kim on a PC to be people live late nights that gather this [Music] scoreless here in the third 2110 science on top oh we've got some emails how do you write the great eliezer books on me like Wallach Eli Whitney Eli Manning Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin he's got to go one does need your absolute in the oh I'm adding to over actor Eli Wallach at the cotton gin that was that was a really big thing but I did it Eli was amazing in my top ten top ten deal or something Eli's don't top ten NFL quarterbacks up to the NFL quarterback not named just Eli not know Wow top ten [Applause] Manning takes over some Giants a thorough Nate Jakob's calories left size 5 keep Brooking rejection we were coming back to the southeast practice on Saturday went through just a fun exercise of where does Eli Manning rank among when and Mike went through every single team in every single starter and you had in like I think eight that's correct that's correct so that's top ten yes but I think it's higher than we both thought you would rank it [Music] they're bumping people would kick right away Eli Manning is in the top quarter of NFL [Applause] [Music] he's been very solid well what's interesting about that though is the two starting quarterbacks out here tonight Joey Harrington actually had a higher ranking than Eli Manning so how far how far do you think Eli Manning can go can I believe he will be a very very good quarterback for 10 to 12 years I just don't think he will ever be 8 quarterback do you remember when Jitsu on talk about son ed works and he said he has the demeanor of a quarterback when you look do you say he has the demeanor no and I think it's something that he understands that you need that leadership that exudes confidence when he looked at he live in and he has been working on it and I believe he's gotten better just like right there 31 past two Amani Toomer for a first down in front of Chris Houston to the 32 yard line third in one inside their own 20 they went and throw through the ball with the confidence in Manning there well let's roll with that a little bit because both Mike and I think that the personality that we see from Eli Manning is a sort of self-protection mechanism it's hard to be the younger brother of Peyton Manning the son of Archie Manning they were big stars maybe this suits Eli well do you think at some point Eli has to say enough of that enough of quiet Eli I've got to step out in front and jump into the volcano I don't know if that will happen but I believe it should have maybe wouldn't towards middle more and takes more responsibility for that I think museums kappa reaction cache depression the outlet and the fullback taped it to the 40 gets about seven yards just to amplify that I felt and come for an Eli power to be around of an Ole Miss having seen paper it is it was a huge task and it took a lot of fortitude to go follow your dad at Ole Miss and as you alluded to in your beginning Tony at this speed limit Ole Miss is easy because that was Archie Manning's number so it took a lot so it's maybe that Eli Manning personality that stuff seems to roll off of him a little bit easier than a winded Peyton was his survival mode and reason he was successful in my mind in college and becoming an award second of two Rueben Droughns is the bat toss to the left they've a deal out there blocking the yard shy of the first down on the subject of Eli I mean I don't think you can say this enough a difficult it is to be Peyton Manning's brother with everything that Peyton Manning has accomplished and everything that is expected of his brother Eli that's that's a rough way to go he's five years younger five years less than the lead at this point in his career how many playoff games had Peyton Manning won one maybe one zero zero one zero zero on this point in his career on the other hand though Eli Manning gets the money he gets in as the number one draft pick partially because his last name is Manny I know I say save your team they hope that that genetics that follows pillows [Music] next Monday night from Jacksonville the undefeated Indianapolis coax the once defeated Jacksonville Jaguars five and Oh indeed four and one Jacksonville from North Florida 8:30 Eastern next Monday nights the best matchup of the week in the NFL to the top six records in the league as you see the Patriots moving to six no the Colts off the by the Packers now 5 to 1 after their win over the Redskins and we'll see the Packers in two weeks against Denver and then after that we'll see the Steelers see the best teams in the league for weeks [Music] wait a third in short run tomorrow Williams and Chris Crocker combined to submarine Jacobs but he falls down past the yellow line first down for the Giants as this fourth quarter gets underway after a scoreless and there's been the story the Giants ability to throw it and Atlanta's inability to get passing yards Ron would be two things pressure and drops no question the drops have perked them in the sustaining situations a third down plays room where they could have kept their offense on the field they had big drops there the numbers through 45 minutes Jacobs limped off replaced by Rueben Droughns schecky Jeremy will get two feet down at the 38 yard line the first down pickup of 19 yard once again an excellent throw by Eli Manning pulling in the pot before that bow out to Jeremy Shockey waited for him open up he had to clear the linebacker it was Michael bully trying to drop deep into his buzz but shocked he just got over the top and a terrific throw by Eli Manning deep into his buzz deep into his buzz yes blind backer supposed deeper there wasn't deep enough into his buzz unfortunately for Michael Boland football talk sucking down 22 pitches on the season he's been somewhat under the radar this year for the Giants to Amani Toomer who has been busy enough tonight to make a couple of dents in the Giants record book that's the sixth catch for tumor the 586 of his Giants career and that ties Tiki Barber for the most receptions in Giants history at 586 earlier tonight sewer tied Kyle wrote for the most touchdown receptions in Shayan history with 48 Mary is tied with Tiki for the reception one that's a pretty good career well fittingly his next reception would be a touchdown so he can break both records in one fell swoop [Music] there is the record for Amani Toomer no player and storied history of the Giants has caught more passes than the 12th year man's second round of the 96 drafts out of Michigan Amani Toomer once again you see the stem at the top of the route sticks that right foot in the ground that's the hint the indicator to Eli Manning that he's coming out of his break any lie anticipates that breaking delivers the ball right between the 8th and the 1 but the key was the outstanding job by the New York Giants offensive line once very comfortable in that cradle 2:19 catches all year seven caches and a touchdown tonight Derrick Ward stopped for a loss of three years Davonte to her about breaking that record he said honestly I don't really think about that stuff he says I don't think about competing against the guys who used to play the game he said right now I'm only interested in the guys who are active who are on the field every day but certainly this would be a special moment much was made two years ago when they played the writers and Amani Toomer did not have a catch in that game and stopped up consecutive games with Kent Street but when he didn't catch one against the Jets it was not a big deal he's kind of shows you have things that maybe the temperature down just a little bit met Giants locker room is here more of a team attitude the pump on tumor was able hang on Molloy negotiated for an incomplete call the whistle is not to do with the plane but pushing after the play best we can tell it's from mark their reception at the six what's interesting about the conversation on tumor is that when you think of the Giants you think he's almost overshadowed you mean you think of people with huge personalities like barber like Strahan you look at shocky and you think I would not have realized that looks like the Falcons gonna challenge that and on that first look I think he may have held on to it it was cradled between his knees and then he tried to get that hand under the point of the balls was very close Atlanta is challenging the ruling on the field that the pass was caught very close to a reception to a lil chicken with a challenge by Atlanta kosher HD high definition look at this to get that hand under the point of the ball [Music] ESPN's Monday Night Football is brought to you by Toyota moving forward Alltel Wireless take the head-to-head challenge at hotel circle comm DLP it's amazing it's the mirrors and the new NFL comm nfl.com is the only place on the web for game highlights and check it out only at NFL calm some of the images of this Monday night in Atlanta where the Giants lead the Falcons 2110 and they're driving for another touchdown we have a review of an Imani tumor catch no catch here bill levy the referee looking at this Atlanta challenge and I thought going a break that it was a clean catch I thought tumor was able to get his hand underneath yeah it appeared Amani Toomer did a great job although he was bobbling the ball the ball did not touch the ground just see the ball coming down sliding down but the ball never touches the ground right there he gets his hand underneath the football you can see the great camera work by our guys and see Amani Toomer does hold on the football from this angle it did not touch the ground I believe it will be a catch or the lack of evidence to overturn the ruling on the field was a catch right and again the this year with the replay system becoming permanent in the National Football League High Definition looks for the referees that you really see the detail up close new to the levy after reviewing the play the ball slipped through the receivers hands it did touch the ground it's an incomplete [Applause] [Music] Bowlby they were down in the 12 yard line Atlanta will not be charged a timeout I'm speechless that's a first and that hurts us in the booth if you stop talking that does it really does it makes it a two-man deal you got the fleet ball Tony go right ahead Mike may be speechless awesome 25 monitors not high def ass and right for that my faces up on the TV really looked like the consi touch button it's third down the Giants can get a first down inside the Chitty [Applause] right that has taken [Applause] minutes when I comes down to Sonora Maz didn't get the blocking downfield to help them cookie Chris Houston set around her for this year's draft at Arkansas brings the Giants field gold unit on that's Lawrence Tynes the first Scottish horn player in the National Football League kicked in Kansas City for three years and replacement jay Feely here is jay Feely moved on to Miami the kitchen kick much during his late part of summer as heat his wife gave birth to premature twins times from 32 knots that through do you think that in Scotland he kicked it a kilt then under that prepared her for the NFL what he could yeah [Music] 24:10 the Giants on top last year the Giants started six and two made a five game win streak from early October through November 5th it all fell apart in the second half of the season finishing eighth made beating Washington in the last game of the regular season to get in the playoffs then losing the wild-card game to Philadelphia Jarius Norwood to bring his long-run ability to the kicking game there's times it mixed up their kickoffs different short ones line drives helped their coverage which had struggled in past weeks and they stop times 28 Joey Harrington comes out for the Falcons at quarterback of course he is in because of everything that happened to Michael Vick in the news this week Michael Vick his contract obviously because his other suspension going back to all the drugs the dogfighting issues I beg your pardon he had bonuses paid to his contract that amounted 37 million dollars the Atlanta Falcons have the right to go after some of that money and were ordered in court to repay have Michael Vick repay the Falcons just under 20 million dollars of that money now there is a another look in the legal system coming with that Michael Vick ruling that has been appealed will be appeal aaron ross is down for the giants so we have a moment here so that's the next step for the Falcons can they recoup that money yeah and people out there out there saying why why are they going after this money when this guy's already got enough issues on his plate well first of all there's a question is the money out there I mean and can they get it one of the reasons go after it I asked Arthur Blank before the game said is there any thought that if you do physically get this money that you might rebate season ticket holders who would have bought season tickets based on michael vick he said that's not the plan but the plan is to bring the money back in to the team to plow it back into the team to sign free agents and to extend the contracts of good players on this team but mike there's a salary cap issue there's a huge calf issue this tough pro the Falcons receivers have dropped separate balls here LaRon Robinson not hang on to that Michael Vick and you saw Rich McKay they're next Arthur blight the owner of the Falcons michael vick counted as 15% of the salary cap for the Atlanta Falcons couple years ago last year this year and going forward if the Falcons don't go after this money as they did and the first ruling was yes it'll be a field if they don't that means they're going to start their next year the salary cap minus 15% in other words they would be at a 15% disadvantage compared to the rest of the teams in the league if they don't go after the money parities pressure this passes by let me just get these legal points straight because it's very confusing Michael Jenkins caught that ball and the south until pugs are short of the first down if they don't get the money actually repaid by michael vick they don't get the salary cap credit must have to work that 15% deficit if they get the money let's say in January or February it counts towards the cat the next year so there's a lot of salary cap machinations but they're not being mean of it if they don't go after the money then they have a 15% salary cap deficit to deal I have to say I don't really understand that why they have to get the money in hand if they get a ruling that says they are hold the money why do they have to London get the money in hand to get cap relief [Music] 14 in the first seven in the second the field goal here early in the fourth they have a 14-point lead on Atlanta Falcon offense has come to a complete stop some me into the first quarter on try to work some clock as we did in the last driver who didn't Thrones good as the shayateen p.m. three first down let's go back to that point we were talking about about Michael Vick it seems to me if you have to get the money in hand it's a double jeopardy situation from Atlanta not only do they lose Michael Vick but they don't get what I think should be sort of paperwork tax relief once they get the judgment that they have to go chase the physical money and show the cash to the NFL and then they're hurt on extending the money to sign other players which really is the key to have the cash in hand for signing bonuses because this team is a long way they need players [Applause] for drones there and that's the uncomfortable spot that the south comes here to be hey Michael Vick is going through his legal case and the next time we're down here December 10th will be the day of sentencing going back to all the charges that were handed down in August the bombshell that Bobby Petrino had to deal with but the PR deal for the Falcons is this this Michael Vick icon to try to help rebuild your team that means signing a new quarterback that means building your franchise keeping some of the veterans who you want to keep to put them in another uncomfortable PR spot but when they have to because of the league rules they're gonna have to spin it as we're taking the money and investing it back on the team that's why we're going to Michael we're not trying to hurt Michael and any further way you cannot tell the story about the 2007 Atlanta Falcons or that man Bobby Petrino without talking about Michael Vick from the day that Michael Vick was indicted and left his team these people have walked around with umbrellas over their heads because of all the rain falling from the sky the veterans had to answer questions like algae crumblin have they answer questions about Michael Vick all the time Petrino walks in a new coach much tougher than the last coach the veterans backed away from him they start losing right away they want to get to 2000 and and they can't get there soon enough but you know what if in an eight-shot beer if you catch years of the 32 and a half yard I'd be third about sheep coming up you know that being said I'm still not sure or convinced that Michael Vick was the right fit for Bobby Petrino's style of offense this is a spread style of offense for an even five wide receivers on the field that means to put the quarterback must process information quickly get the ball out of his hand quickly and throw accurately those are not the attributes of Michael Vick he was an exciting player may be the most exciting ever to play the game but to sustain offense and Bobby Petrino style of offense I'm not sure Michael Vick was a fit foot I know the guys that have now are not Byron Leftwich and Joey Heric they are not the guys that are gonna carry the future of this football called Star of David do the left arm number 66 offense five-yard penalty thirty-eight will give the South and some hope whoa so what's going on down the line here who are the quarterbacks we'll be free agents after this year that's next quit I think the first thing you look at are the available free agents that's a pretty good list right there I mean you still have Tony Romo right at the top of that list I'm not sure that Jerry Jones is gonna let that happen down that's not that's not how that's happened but if you can't get a guy via the Friedan see it becomes your top priority in the draft I believe the quickest way become a winning franchise is get a quarterback that you can count on to be your quarterback for a decade or 12 years [Music] boss sonorous DeAngelo Hall first Keith working last and then a glimmer of hope to the South can stay alive to one of the things that Petrino said and you get off to a bad start and of course everybody's always asking you to make the right decision going to the pros and have you lost the locker room and what's going on one things Pitino said in response to that is everybody here is pressing so hard to win we need to relax this game can't help them relax this is another a total breakdown what bothers me phone these guys were the ones making the comments were the ones that played poorly tonight so maybe those guys ought to be focused on their job not the job that Bobby Petrino's take all the veteran stars and clean them out they these guys that are running their mouths right now are being focused on once they start playing better they will be gone [Music] [Applause] Falcons have New Orleans in New Orleans next week Saints finally getting a victory and we'll see the return match of that December 10th here in Atlanta Falcons live five division games left they were hoping to get this one gets it to and for Harrington out of the pocket Tori done yard or so remember Byron Leftwich was the number three quarterback tonight last week left which came in in the fourth quarter when Harrington had been battered by the fierce front of the Tennessee Titans when the Albert Haynesworth he was fine $7,500 for the ships passing complete here's Michelle well guys I talked to Byron Leftwich and jaws you may not think he's ready to take over this team but he disagrees he said I am NOT a backup in this league I expect the opportunity to compete while I'm in the process of learning this offense I'm trying not to get frustrated so that when my number is called I'm ready I prepare like I started because I don't know any other way I know I'm here for a reason so for now I'm just focusing on the game plan week to week he only to theater talk Michelle he has to believe that he's got that uniform on he's the guy that wants to play but this system is not designed for his talents he's the deep drop quarterback that likes to chuck it down the field to say quick drop passing game I don't think he's the right fit for the style of offense I love his attitude hey but I'm the QB I want to play good luck go ahead keep it red throw from your backside all day that's what it's been since the end of the first quarter has been a giant series of pressure plus the four or five drops Harrington five of his last 18 pumps it away waiting in the fair cutting at the 32-yard but what left which was on that list that we showed before break of the free agents that are out there after this season then the next question he said jobs who are the top quarterbacks out there and this is Mel kuipers list in order as Mel currently has them write of senior quarterbacks not including juniors that would come up and obviously the one guy who is the jump out at you man is Brian Brahm from Louisville who Bobby Petrino recruited has known for a long time of the drama family was always a part of the Louisville chain including proms older brother Jeff who was an assistant coach at Louisville under Katrina so he knows Brian Brown very well there are many people around including the great Paul Hornung who has told me he thinks Brom will come into the league and be a superstar just one person's opinion but it's Paul Hornung for all morning I've seen him all his life Paul living in that Louisville area and that's fine but if he's going to be that good you've got to get the first to second pick to get because everybody would think why don't we get Brian Braun and then it's a question of how far to the Falcons fall to get that pick right to us and that turns into all the questions about Petrino and the locker room and the veterans and the shake-up of the team and it becomes a vicious cycle as we go down that road second date for the Giants he picked up one first down last time they have dominated every facet offensively tonight Grady Jackson jumps in encroachment number 98 fence five-yard penalty County on Grady Jackson here Suzy it's a good thing that the Giants have three running backs to rely on this season Brandon Jacobs has been dealing with a knee injury missed three games earlier this season suffered a burger tonight now has an injured ankle he's being called questionable Derrick Ward has been nursing an ankle injury didn't practice much this week while he injured that ankle he's also called questionable and then there's Rueben Droughns who scored the touchdown tonight so certainly in the league today it's good to have depth so many teams with she backs Giants have used all three including drones who was acquired via trade from Cleveland for Jim Carter that picks up the first down 247 some fun drones is going to be the backup spelling Brandon Jacobs and the Derrick Ward has emerged to take a little bit of that role we just look at the Giants just for a second the Giants started out Owen - they were given up 80 points in two games and then 17 in the first half - the Redskins they've looked at that point to be heading for four and twelve and Tom Coughlin looked to be heading to no work at all look what they've done now in the last three and a half games limiting opponents to virtually no points whatsoever they're good over in their fourth straight game and suddenly they factor in the NFC three weeks ago they were almost got there I think began to buy in and understand the defensive system of Steve spell off to the races and drone stays inbounds and ghost pick up a 45 and the other thing that happened was this they started getting the running game going the first couple games of a 70% pass now it was ones like this the power running game the 36 power to 37 power as they're called and all the zaps what got this team ignited offense they relied nodding and Eli Manning to make plays but they got it in the running game as well and they have San Francisco next and Miami after that Angeles they could be looking at 6 and 2 which is what they were a year ago and this Atlanta team [Music] beat-up sees an injury to one of its better the sense of players as Micah Foley is being looked at by the Falcon medical staff as he tried to chase that play down there's what the story has been tonight I mentioned a couple of plays ago complete domination by the Giants and other than that one run and first quarter drive it has been nothing from the South games of the Giants dominant can we look at Tom Coughlin as well the various themes tonight both of these teams have parallel things they've had coaches who players have been critical of the Giants seem to be working past that now the Tom Coughlin has his Tribal Council and all the veteran players are happy because he suddenly listens to him when he didn't listen to him for years Falcons still in that both teams looking to replace thousand-yard Russians who are gone Giants seemed to be accomplishing that with a troika of bats at the moment Duncan's can't run except for that one explosive 60 yard run or something like that still aren't getting a lot a lot done quarterback issues on both teams Eli Manning having a much better time to hit every hot water back issue in New York there is only be great well there's very good and great war chefs back into the lineup war takes it in [Applause] celebrate 4:13 tonight [Applause] my point would be that some of the issues facing both teams the Giants seem to be overcoming and the Falcons seem to be butchered by them and it's going to take took time in New York and I've got to give a lot of credit to Tom Coughlin's he has shown flexibility to rob the failure he's listening in English that I've been gonna head folks for a long time he has changed this yeah I've known Tom coughing go back to his days in Philadelphia or you it could be a tough guy but he's changed 31:10 giant SportsCenter 30 and 30 an interstate michael thank you earlier tonight the Indians open up a 2-1 series lead the ALCS doubled up the Red Sox four to Kenny Lofton gave them an early 2-run home run off Daisuke Matsuzaka Tim Wakefield by the way will pitch tomorrow in Game four after the NLCS Arizona trying to avoid being swept tonight Connor Jackson an RBI Diamondbacks lead the Rockies won the nothing as they played the top of the fourth stay current with ESPN News sports centers coming up Mike when Sports Center full recap from here in Atlanta with Stu and Emmett and Steve Young primetime follows after SportsCenter straight wing on the guys the full recap of week six in the NFL you guys are talking about Tom Coughlin's at this turn around and personality very interesting go back to the end of last season and a meeting with his family his wife a couple of his four children and discussing about the Tom Coughlin who the giant players don't get to see sometimes the Tom Coughlin when his grandchildren are around is on the floor playing with them happy and warm and very affable and the Giants didn't see much of that and that's what if you've alluded to 20-some people don't know what you've been talking about with this Tribal Council that was the idea to put together an entire group of players a leadership group which has happened on so many different teams sometimes that can be just a pacifier players who offending and whining what it's done for the Giants is it's given the players of voice with Coughlin he's listened and he took them for a bowling night in training camp this year and the players were shocked they couldn't believe that so he truly has changed his way returned by the full-back oedema hell attention to the 32 yard line here's the Leadership Council which I like to refer to as the Tribal Council because I used to watch Survivor a lot 10 guys tend to join players who meet with Coughlin every Friday they vent a little bit they ask for small things and Coughlin listens and it's important to hear Coughlin's words he said I've been a tunnel vision guy football football football says this has been better I ended up spending more time with the players the players is fun they thought he didn't want to spend any time with him and he said Coughlin said I was ridiculous this was something I needed to they're gone I'll tell you have Mike the straight hands story about this post rayon was particularly critical of Coughlin as years went by and Strahan said I would talk to Tom and he'd say I hear you but Strahan said I didn't really think he heard and I said the following thing you say you hear me but you're losing the team do you hear that and after a while like water dripping on a rod finally it seemed to get through to Tom Coughlin and this year has been much better in his relationships with the players again in his 60s and a coach for Bulldog fans that last guy on earth by court with change old state to Jerry's [Music] into the 4079 remember what Tom Coughlin's is all about Tom Coughlin's grew up in a very small town in upstate New York Waterloo New York watching the Giants and Cleveland Browns on black-and-white TV whether it was only one game on on TV so he was old school through and through when he came through at Boston College they really needed to be knocked around and kind of put in the right spot he did that as a disciplinary when he was at Jacksonville he was the most successful expansion coach really in the history of North American professional sports taking the Jaguars twice to the championship game in the AFC in their instances name is higher remember almost two years before they played a game that's the only way he knew when it worked he got here it didn't work needed to adjust it finally does and that'll make it six drops with Michael Jenkins well I need to continue with that when you coach in New York good jobs on the line all the time because of the incredible media pressure there are a lot of people's but Tom Coughlin would not retain his job they after last year when they lost six of their layouts take sort of limped into the playoffs lost in the first round and he he retained it I think for two reasons one that he's the first coach to go to the playoff two years in a row since Parcells and John Marin knew what a close relationship you had with Wellington in dealing with the players was key now they're there I'm like dad in today's NFL the head coach is an executive now he's a CEO the players go over they have very little interaction with the head coach there with their coordinators these are in their position coach for the majority of the time till the fact that you know Tom Wolfe's is warm and fuzzy guy they all wanted rotten you know bowling with can have you bothered the players I'm glad he did change don't get me wrong it's not that important Bill Belichick not warm and fuzzy xored that the players will go to war for Barrington finally has time to throw fitting the very small window for LaRon Robinson in completed c-23 to when the Giants have a head they have the game against San Francisco on Sunday at the Meadowlands and then they go to Wembley in London to play the Dolphins then the bye week and then you see the division game start to line up to trip to Detroit Minnesota then the back end Eagles and Redskins and cowboys one more time of peace on the schedule and of course closing with the Patriots going 416 and all at that point start all need Nova I gotta have the turkey in the oven Giants will take over when you play this thing all the way out with the Patriots that's the other issue well the Patriots have anything to play for if they're 14 of those so there's hope there are three big hurdles couple of regular-season games for the Patriots then do they get to 14 and oh let's say they're certainly not that have anything to play for the AFC East they might have the division the by the conference wrapped up so you keep going for 16 low and if you even brought that up within three zip codes of Bill Belichick econom he'd pull the sweatshirt over his head I'd say go away I agree with them but you know there is a game on the schedule where New England goes to Indianapolis it would be no kids about it the Indies a very good team we're on the side we just to see him next solutely Anthony writes who's the number two quarterback tonight the second week in a row not Jared Lorenzen comes in so he'll I'm a nice night is done Rueben Droughns loses two yards that'll take us to the two-minute warning here in Atlanta Giants on their way to a fourth consecutive victory dominating the southeast tonight [Music] we remind you to stay tuned for SportsCenter coming up next load of Kenny mains Scott Van Pelt the GMC Monday night football postgame Steve Young Emmitt Smith Steve Scott here in Atlanta breaking down Tom Brady he's good breaking news it's a reaction Game three in Cleveland where the Indians took a 2-1 series lead in the American League Championship Series on the Red Sox tonight SportsCenter to follow to the 48 Eli Manning a great night well he was stroking his Tony likes to say there's a great throat Amani Toomer here the play-action coming back over the top tumor the touchdown I love this one the deep throw the plaques go first off the play action maximum protection Eli put it on the hands of Plaxico Burress outside of those two interceptions one just before the half his fourth one this season in the last two minutes of the half but other net Eli Manning looked very very sharp and um you know what the question will be in tomorrow's New York papers can he do it again next week it'll be the CAHSEE turned the corner why are you what's your eyes so tough why does kid know writers don't enjoy the moment we're just look towards the next moment and try to crush someone that's what we do you're worried about selling a newspaper tomorrow I got a good one coming up here for old time giant fans okay like over the age of 45 like me so hang on please for a second two good ones a penalty here you'll leave you with the call we'll think Tom cops will be unhappy about the penalties tonight doesn't a third down with this when the Giants will get to a spot where only two franchises are the Chicago Bears the Green Bay Packers if this will be the Giants 600 all-time National Football League win and it will be done with a big yard advantage they've gained 259 more yards in this game then the Falcons the last time the Giants won a road game by out gaining their opponent by 250 nine yards the ally Sherman Giants of 1961 [Applause] my man in a film matchup show in those formative years that's right dude the pre Monday night countdown and if no crime Monday days on ESPN there's a Steve Tisch on the sidelines standing in front of Jeremy Shockey part of the tissue Nerra family the next generation that's taken over ownership of the Giants and Steve Tisch was telling me before the game about the stadium that's being built next to Giants Stadium the Jets and Giants will share some of the luxury suites there are going to be shared so people can buy luxury suites for 20 games and go to the Jets home games and the Giants home games and those have gone very quickly and Steve is bringing more celebrities around the Giants he's trying to give the Giants kind of that Lakers feel in some way where it's a hot celebrity ticket and people will be around this Giants franchise Jimmy Kim I could give her Kimmel self some baked ziti you know served in the boxes Giants a 61 Frank my fee goes is bonded to ten that was that game by the way in 61 our that was the first game played at what is now RFK Stadium against the Redskins was so next week we see Peyton Manning and the Colts take on David Gerard in the Jaguars five and OH in d4 and one Jacksonville the Colts coming off their bye week last week they hope to get Marvin Harrison Joseph Addai and Bob sandwich back they were out last week Peyton is rested and ready you know what you said about Brady that he's good [Music] Tom's got 21 touchdowns with Payton's record in sight [Applause] it Joey Harrington's numbers are poor this support has been worse tonight one of those days that you'd read the receivers get open they drop the ball Joey's having a tough time squeezing the ball into tight windows is past detection breaking down these are nights they'd like to forget if you're that was one of the headlines though how with the rookie undrafted tackles dude how would the young offensive line dude watch the whole game how did they not very well you know I thought were in the games they played well they've got some big plays out of the running they were worn down by the Giants pass luck and I thought steve Spangler is a great job designing suppressors to that section cooler than four subscribers trying to get one more turn over there but they will not 78 seconds to go stag no love the Giants first-year defensive coordinator coming over as Ron mentioned from Philadelphia I love what Tom Coughlin's said about him I liked it he didn't have any easy jobs on the way up something Kaufman was able to relate to early on it his days much has Milner the type in there's a coach in this league you work 16 hours a day seven days a week about 11 months out of here to get very little credit it's always good to get some fun of these guys that busted every single day but guys like Steve Spagnola and coaches on both stems Michael Jenkins up the middle to the 47 yard line it's the one thing about teams that lose their coaches don't get a credit they work just as hard and they go back to work even harder who the next day to figure out what went wrong yeah it's not a fun place to go to work after you get it handed to you like the Atlanta Falcons who the head of the Hammond em tonight 33 this will continue being thus our street 12 consecutive wins in the giant Southie series by the road - it was absolutely no reason why the game's final play barring a defensive south this team complete science moved to four and two Falcons to one in five final score here in Atlanta Giants 31 Falcons Tech SportsCenter is on the way next to the TMC Monday Night Football postgame report Tony Kornheiser round two were ski Michele Tafoya Suzy Kolber Mike Tirico we say thanks to all the women and men on our great monday night football crew and thank you for joining us in this presentation of ESPN the worldwide leader in sports next Monday night it's the Colts and the Jaguar [Music]
