what's the weather like tonight in st. Louis you ask well it isn't a washout like some people predicted yesterday it is 46 degrees although you would have a tough time convincing people it is 46 degrees it feels like it's about three the wind chill makes it feel like 38 degrees and you can see the wind is at 23 miles per hour out of the Northwest and here is the lineup for the Tigers and it fought to you by Bank of America same look as last night for Jim Leyland Granderson leads it often Monro batting second Carlos Guillen hits third oh don't use cleans up Sean Casey had a big night last night he's in the number five spot again Yvan Rodriguez does the catching he had three hits Polanco still hitless Brandon Inge is batting eighth and Justin Verlander is pitching and batting ninth and here is the former tiger former first-round pick for Detroit back in 1998 Jeff Weaver making the start here in Game five [Applause] [Music] State Farm covers the field and here's a look at the Cardinals defensively so Taguchi gets the start in left Edmonds and center Chris Duncan and right with Roland Eckstein Belliard and Pujols around the infield Yadier Molina does the catching the 2006 World Series brought to you by Budweiser select brewed longer for a bold taste that finishes clean expect everything strike one on Granderson up there ready to rip only two for his last 23 covering six games and one for 18 in this World Series and old for three against Jeff Weaver and Game two [Music] one ball one strike imagine the nerves bouncing around in the belly of Jeff Weaver getting the start against the team that drafted him a chance to wrap up the World Series and give the cradles their 10th World Championship here tonight and try to avoid having this series head back to Comerica Park just think of how many pitchers in baseball would love to have this opportunity with their team 3-1 up in the World Series starting to learn more about this Cardinal right-hander the 30 year old 65 200 pounder Jeff Weaver that first point we've talked about in all of his postseason starts when the arm is up that's the arm angle he wants improvement under Dave Duncan and he's working [Applause] a strikeout of Granderson to start the night for Weaver you could see Molina setting up high around the letters that's where the pitch is and Granderson who led the American League in strikeouts this year is the first victim of Weaver now it's Monroe who took Weaver deep in game number two Craig is three out of sixteen is two home runs coming one in Game one at the end of it and the other one of the first of game two that gave Kenny Rogers all he would need as Rogers and todd Jones combined for the victory Rogers did the tough part with his eight shutout in it if there is a game six tomorrow night in Detroit Anthony Reyes would take on Kenny Rogers wall to it is Weaver and Verlander tonight its mother all up with Tian on deck [Music] one thing is pretty clear when you're facing elimination in a World Series it's very difficult to sit down in the dugout almost all the Tigers really for that matter all the Cardinals standing [Music] [Applause] on rejected support County Oh doubt that Munroe did not offer at that pitch [Applause] [Music] in the early going weber appears to have a sharp slider but he got Granderson on the fastball and Monroe on the slider slider from a right-hander sliding away from a right-handed batter the story with with Lieber is something that if you're not familiar with it just checking him out for the first time because he makes this game five start now deals with Carlos Guillen I mentioned he was drafted by Detroit came up in 99 and OH - he was traded to the Yankees just after signing a four-year twenty two million dollar deal and he had a year-plus not a whole lot of fun with New York he leaves New York he has two years where the Dodgers goes 2724 signs a one-year deal this year with the Angels goes three and ten and to make room for his younger brother Jerry to come up and pitch the Angels cut him loose now he's in st. Louis now he's through one half inning there is no score in Game five with the Cardinals up three games to one take a look at the lineup for the st. Louis Cardinals brought to you by Bank of America David Eckstein the star last night leads it off and Chris Duncan back to back start season right Poole sitting third Edmonds cleans up Rolen batting fifth Belliard back in the lineup Yadier Molina so Taguchi gets the start in left in the pitcher Jeff Weaver as Justin Verlander the 23 year old rookie right-hander makes the start here in Game five trying to get the series back to Detroit [Music] [Applause] blistering fastball for strike one and it was the velocity or the atypical velocity for Verlander that caught the attention of the Tigers back in Game one when he hooked up against Anthony Reyes instead of his normal 95 96 mile an hour fastball Jim Leyland and the Tigers saw on 88 and 89 mile an hour there's 94 from the right-hander and he's behind on the count to Eckstein too long just to trying to turn that apprehension into positive energy for the Tigers next time hits it in the air to left field an easy form on a roll one away take a look at the defense State Farm covers the field Tigers defensively have Monroe and left and center Granderson and write its Magglio ordóñez around the infield Indian Polanco and KC and the poor errors by the pitching staff and the World Series is the most in World Series history Sicilian Oh in his career Verlander has committed four errors here's Chris Duncan one out nobody on two rookies hooking up and that's low for ball one the likely American League Rookie of the Year Verlander deals and it's to a No Lander looks like he is going a hundred miles an hour out there he was working with a fast pace in Game one he's right back at it here in Game five he's three and L they works very quickly normally the one thing from a catcher's standpoint that you can do is you could slowing down Justin take a step back it says putz Rodriguez three and one next time flied to left Duncan is trying to get on in front of Pujols who has only two hits in this world series [Applause] [Music] good pitch Verlander does not get the call one on one out and our MasterCard keys to the game a lot of ways to put it but what the Tigers will attempt to do is to have three 1-game winning streaks for the Cardinals they want to get it done in front of this very very faithful following here in st. Louis full holes now I mentioned only two hits in this world series for the Cardinal MVP one of the two hits a home run to right Bob fer Lander back in Detroit skips in there Duncan down to second with one out [Applause] [Music] that was a pitch thrown out of nervousness right there Dalbert pools he rarely seen in major league pitchers throw a fifty seven foot fastball you'll see him throw a changeup a breaking ball in front of the plate rarely a fastball that pitch was a sign of nervousness certainly understandable first base open a one o pitch to pools who's in for a strike 99 on the radar gun a good sign for the Tigers one thing they've been working on his side with Verlander to try to get some of the velocity back is to get more of his Lake Drive stay more compact right strength to on pools bernetta made it fits too good with first base open and game long who else tripped at the other way a 2-run shot the only other hip for Albert was a double in Game three the opposite way [Music] two and two and Rodriguez is going to be tested tonight that was really a good play right there a tough curveball remember catchers anticipate the breaking ball in the dirt go to right down with a good play Rodriguez 2 & 2 the count on Poole [Music] [Applause] test it again as Rodriguez if you're gonna test somebody he's the best in the business but it might be a long night tonight catching this twenty three-year-old excited rookie then is the third ball in the dirt to Albert rules lemon time Gold Glove Award winner three two count now on pools with Edmund stacks [Applause] that skips in there fools will take a walk and so will Rodriguez have to talk to Verlander [Music] and once again there's no talk between the two of them about mechanics or any of that stuff and to check up from the neck up we're Berlanga earlier in the dugout we had this shot going to break and the 23 year old deep breath before he headed to work and off he went he got the lead man next time but he's walked in x2 and thrown a wild pitch in that tell you to gel with it with that shot you could just feel the apprehension and anxiety Edmunds takes a ball but fur Lander has the kind of ability and the kind of stuff we can channel it and get it back into the strike zone he can be dominated he's got to find it here fast - at home now kyun one of the leaders on this Detroit team is going to come in and try to slow down fer Lander and so will the pitching coach Hernandez try and do the same it's worth mentioning that this is the typical day rest why's the Kenny Rogers would have to be available to pitch he matched up against Jeff Weaver in Game two back in Detroit Jim Leyland saying for obvious reasons with the alleged pine tar use and the camera shots of him pitching in Game two and all of the hubbub around it the controversy that he did not want to bring Kenny Rogers on the mound here in st. Louis and have him pitch in this atmosphere Jim Leyland also saying that he had to win three games so what difference does it make whether Rogers starts tonight tomorrow or Game seven is certainly previous both lines of fun three and oh the other camp is get a win here tonight and get it back into our home ballpark and take our chances there probably a stronger point really already getting loose here in the first inning and it's two on a little one out 302 Edna's three and one that just caught the corner home plate umpire tonight is John Hirschbeck [Music] what break for Verlander Hirschbeck is known as a pitcher's umpire wide strike zone [Applause] Edmonds comes back with a full gallon but the edge according to Hirschbeck it's three and two with two on and one away Alice if Tony LaRussa sends the runners I don't think so with Edmonds propensity to strike out this would be a huge out for Verlander to come back and get he was one pitch out of the strike zone away from loading the bases with one out for Rolen who was hit at nine straight has fought back to a full count on Edmonds [Music] Edmonds pops it into left field easy for Montreux when playing with it that's out number two then Jim Edmonds going after ball four that ball right around the shoulders I do not think Verlander would have gotten that call so Edmonds helping Verlander out Verlander and the Tigers now it's rolling [Music] Rowland also homered off Verlander back in Detroit in Game one see what he's done with a bad at nine game hitting streak since he was benched in Game two of the NLCS strike 1 97 from Verlander Thomas like a yoga class in this ballpark don't forget to breathe Verlander trying to slow it down a little bit now taking the ball behind the mound rubbing it up and not just getting it throwing it like he was doing to the first three hitters that gets away and the runners advance to second and third two wild pitches here in the inning Verlander had only five wild pitches the whole season this fall off the arm of the bond Rodriguez the breaking ball so the second wild pitch of the innings and the runners move up really still getting loose for the Tigers out of their pen but fur Lander is one good pitch away from getting out of this with rollin at the plate second and third a 1-1 count two and one nothing wrong with a velocity tonight nope [Music] three and one [Music] bases-loaded three walks and two wild pitches here in the inning Belliard scum it up [Music] I wanna give your belly our Joe I think you got to take a strike I think you play on the anxiety of a 23 year old right-hander and only a second professional season belly Art's been on the bench for two of the games of this world series Myles has made the start all one [Applause] again your Belliard take a strike we've been 18 pitches out of the strike zone two wild pitches and four trips to the mound including one from the dugout to the pitching coach Hernandez the bases are loaded with Verlander down time called by Guillen is going to go out and pick up a hot dog wrapper that's going the extra mile [Music] bases-loaded two out [Applause] 95 mile an hour fastball one ball one strike strike two on Belliard and so far it's just been a steady diet of fastballs as Verlander is just trying to throw strikes forget the curve forget everything else does he dare try to break off the curveball here with a bases-loaded two out a one-two count I don't think so 100 miles per hour befall to [Music] time called by belliard [Music] [Music] ball three full count and the runners will go very very close to two fastball that could have gone either way [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Duncan will tiptoe from third who host will take off from second and Rolen will take off from first [Applause] again those are the No Oh to end the inning that saved two runs as both Duncan and poles were coming home what a play by Guillen to keep it scoreless after one in game [Music] well Busch Stadium is dead quiet as the Tigers and Verlander get out of that Jam Belliard grounding out to short good play by Guillen and a great play by Casey on the other end I couldn't help it be taken by not only Sean Casey pumping his fist but Verlander pumping his fist almost like it was a clinching situation they just got out of the first inning well after all that Verlander who walks three throws two wild pitches Tigers shoot off the field still a scoreless game and our dounia's swings at a pitch over the inside part one ball one strike there the numbers for Magglio in this world series so far he is just 2 out of 15 John Casey on deck men Yvonne Rodriguez against Jeff Weaver on the outside corner strike two not much was made to that deal that the Tigers made with the Pirates to get Sean Casey she's got a great glove guy at first base when you pick up Casey in a lifetime 300 hitter and he has been along with Carlos Guillen the two hittin stars for Detroit in this world series and your point in the opening Joe about Magglio ordóñez are doing is this you know that a contemporary expression he's got to step up jota's numbers they're horrible for the World Series after clinching the ALCS and he strikes out to start the second third strikeout for Weaver you don't see that blow fastball swung through that often by major league hitters but Weaver getting Ordonez on the down and end fastball now Sean Casey who last night homered in his first at-bat a two-out RBI hit in his knack singled at the 5th was three out of four with two RBI postseason hitting just under 404 this world series 6 out of 13 Kaycee baozi Jim Leyland quoted as saying we've got to win three in a row and that pretty much puts it real simple are we capable of doing that absolutely are we in a good position absolutely not if we win game five we keep playing if we don't we go home either way they go home but will they go home to play baseball tomorrow night here's a no one one ball one strike why nobody on KC's went through it strike two [Music] I know Weaver's had success up there through the first five hitters but Jeff Weaver can't expect to get Tiger hitters out on high fastball not on a consistent basis on the inside corner two out four strikeouts for Weaver [Applause] this a tailing fastball that comes back over the inside corner to get Jason and that's what Weaver has to do to be successful move the ball in and out and keep those left-handed hitters from hanging out over the plate waiting to jump on something that's how he had success against the New York Mets and there's six left-handers that they threw at it now yvonne rodriguez who helped guide Verlander through that long bottom of the first a 35 pitch inning for the tiger riding straight water [Music] [Music] all one st. Louis at the bottom of the second will have Molina Taguchi and Weaver bottom three in their lineup against Berlin there's a chance to top down to the dugout at the clubhouse or wherever he chooses ground ball to hang sky weaver is perfect through to bottom of the second here in st. Louis bottom of the order coming up no score in Game five [Music] ball one high from Verlander to Molina Verlander walked three through two wild pitches in the first and he guides one into the strike zone there for the Cardinal catcher one and one to Gucci on deck and then Weaver the pitcher strike to changeup after two fast balls sometimes you go through a first inning like that where you throw throw 35 pitches and you get out of it and that helps relax you breaking ball missing and it's 2 & 2 Molina has had a terrific postseason 327 overall and he's hit two home runs driven in eight up and after that one still 2 and 2 [Music] this crowd wanting to see a clinching victory tonight wild in the bottom the first inning like Verlander but they have been quietly since Justin got out of it now Molina is on with a leadoff hit so Taguchi will be the hitter and we check in with Chris Myers head Joe Justin Verlander's said he gets nervous before every start and support of his makeup we got through most of his anxiousness in the Yankees series but he was relaxed in the tiger clubhouse before the game playing his teammate in a video baseball game on PSP said he didn't want to talk about the real game but he talked about his video game I said how'd you do he said not good he gave up a home run in the eighth and lost let's hope the real game is different thank you Chris one on nobody out the batter is too Gucci 1 for 8 in the World Series punch what a good play by Brandon Inge who took a hit away from so Taguchi what that was a terrific play on a hard pun a tougher play because it was bunted so hard but Ian's picking it up with the index finger and the middle finger in throwing position there's no way to catch that ball in the palm of the hand and get it into a throwing position so you make them play in the throwing position that was a dandy bye ends now it's Weaver so Taguchi bunts it goes down as a sacrifice Weaver grabs weekly two Kia be the hitter [Music] [Applause] number eight hitter Taguchi bunting bunting for a hit goes down as a sacrifice but the out then leaves it up to Weaver who had three hits and 27 at-bats during the regular season he taps out now Eckstein as he did last night tries to give the Cardinals something with two out I think when it's clear that a hitter is not bunting to sacrifice the runner over it should be a time at bat in no sac in that situation clearly the Gucci trying to bunt him over but not for Jeff Weaver runner at third two outs one ball one strike here's the bunt by Taguchi trying to get a base hit out of it the play by Brandon in and the reaction to that play from Tony LaRussa the Cardinal dugout is back that's a fair ball wildly the first Cardinals take the lead and Eckstein down to second he has delivered again probably a hidden in error have to wonder how that bass gave there's a great backhanded pickup by is and by the time he got to his feet he throws wildly the second base side of first face a next time peg second base good throw he has him it is a single an RBI he five on the throw to send Eckstein down to second not Duncan takes high ball one to the Cardinals not in front tonight with a run here in the second and a chance for more Duncan was walked his first time up fooled on that pitch from Verlander was the rookie Duncan one ah Jilla would have taken lightning fast reactions but is probably would have been better off going home on that ball because of the speed of Molina and the fact that Molina was looking back against at the play and he gone home he's got a better chance of getting Molina but watch Molina looked back not running hard but had he come home the chances it's a shorter throw but yet never actually past instance defense that quickly now bring in one on Duncan with Albert pools on death Weaver has a lead Duncan trying to add to it full count [Music] Tigers joined a list they want no part of the first team to commit an error any to the first five games of the World Series seventy-nine new baseball from Verlander trying to get out of the second now a leadoff hit by Molina bunted down to second moved over on the groundout by Weaver and scored on the hit by Eckstein Duncan strikes out looking over the inside corner and fur Lander gets his first strikeout of the night but the pride Mills get the first run of the night third inning now five wounded up in st. Louis so as we move into the third inning with the Cardinals on top now one to nothing here is Polanco desperately trying to find his first hit of this world series Oh 414 471 to the first to round two this postseason the MVP of the ALCS one hop to third picked up by Roland so Polanco started the postseason in his number two spot in the lineup Casey got hurt Polanco went to third and now after a toe 4:14 make it over 15 after that groundout start Polanco is down at the bottom of the order for Detroit here is Brandon Inge last night as he takes low on a breaking ball from Weaver in an RBI double off Adam Wainwright the top of the 8th inning to tie the game at four maybe ball in for a strike one with one out nobody on that misses down and away two morons who would have thought it with Jeff Weber a guy who was 5 at 14 in his first 26 starts this year ripped into left field back is to Gucci and cannot get there Brandon Inge digs for second in the throw will be late ends with another double one thing that you notice about Brandon inch he has sneaky power when he gets balls in the outfield on the line they have carry power and this one carrying over taguchi's head or yet another double by Inge ends with two hits last night on base three times last night now he's out at second base with one away for Verlander and he's all for one and his career swing in the back [Music] grounds it back to Weaver as that traffic is between second and third rollin with a tag and a fielder's choice one five [Applause] Jim Leyland looking for the jacket progestin Verlander but another mistake by the Tigers this time on the bases as Brandon Hantz going too far and a good play by Rolen running him back towards second base that wipes out the runner in scoring position for Detroit asthma shed on the opening Jim Leyland saying we got to make up for our mistakes by swinging the bats it's so far the Tigers haven't done that the ball was sent it back up the middle Weaver was in good fielding position after letting the pitch go made the play easily the fielder's choice now Verlander has to run the bases he's at first with two out for Granderson who's over 1 & 1 for 19 in this world series basically sitting with Jim Leyland he just sat at his desk tonight before the game and said what can you do I mean we just haven't played well we haven't hit well we've made errors and he pointed to the Cardinals he said he who knew against the bats that for New York that wouldn't be the pitching of the fence that beat New York could be their own hitters and that's pretty much the same thing that's happening to Detroit as they started tonight with the team average of 211 in this world series but a lot of mistakes not just a lack of hitting Granderson lines one into scenter and you see what that baserunning play by Inge div took a run off the board possibly for Detroit as Granderson gets the base hit it's two on with two out and before the at-bat here is Curtis Granderson maybe maybe could just get that lecture they get there on the base [Music] such a nice neat guy and Granderson talking to the fans by the has a chance with two on and two out to duke damage for Detroit lead Runner is Verlander the pitcher the trail runner is Granderson with great speed and Inge is still over there shaking his head after being trapped on the bases smothers it and throws it the Tigers get two hits lose Inge on the bases and it hurts Detroit bottom of the third inning Game five part of the order for the Cardinals up by one game goes into the bottom of the third inning and fur Lander back to the hill cool holes first up Edmonds and Rolen will follow fools out of the batter's box who would have thought that the st. Louis Cardinals would be up three games to one with the clincher perhaps potentially tonight with Albert Pujols only 2 for 12 who all's chops it foul you that you've got pool holes through in this series 2 for 12 as you say you've got Roland who's getting hits but has only one RBI and yet they've been able to patch things together Eckstein with the big night last night has an RBI tonight enough to take a three games to one series lead that is just blistered over the outside corner by Verlander one two nobody's going to hit that pitch you do it too Boulos missed two weeks with a strained oblique muscle came back quickly had to spin out of the way of that first pitch on this cold night had a little reaction after it now he rips one into that field for a base hit a leadoff hit for the Cardinals their third hit of the night Rodriguez setting outside the pitch was inside it gives you an idea of major-league pitches they do not hit the spot every time that pitch missed by about six inches one on nobody out Jim Edmonds digging his way in he flied out to left on a 3-2 pitch back in a long 35 pitch first inning for Verlander strike one that was hittable Edmonds missing the high fastball he'd like that would back edmonds 4 out of 14 in this world series we're all still trying to stretch out over at first base no one inside corner oh it too [Music] this Detroit team remember down the stretch they lost 31 of their last 50 in their last five games to a combination of Toronto and Kansas City to lose the division they were the wild-card and look to all the baseball world like they had put that stretched way behind it after losing the first game of the division series at Yankee Stadium they won the next three against New York swept Oakland four straight Jim Leyland is trying to find the right formula with his lineup cut down on these errors get some big hits they've been unable to do Edmonds grounds the first foul still wanted to [Music] the Cardinals on the other hand almost led a seven-game lead slip away to the Houston Astros got down to a half game entering the final weekend and it took a went by Atlanta over Houston on the final day of the season to assure the Cardinals they would not have to play an extra day as a makeup game against San Francisco the Monday after that final Sunday and they were in the postseason but not expected to do much to yet here they are after getting past San Diego than the Batson 7 games leading this world series three games to one the experts are idiots that is well said here's a to to full count I certainly don't consider myself an expert but I am anything here anymore I've not them in the camp of those who got well two Cardinals he had a get in the postseason but this of the groups and LaRussa's had is the team that struggled the most balls running [Music] Albert carton a run down his Edmonds struck out and now Pujols is tagged out caught stealing in a double play two out nobody on well in the first inning luluwa did not send the runners but here with Edmonds up this time he does send the runners who all stop in between first and second the interesting thing is Rodriguez did not have [Music] there's an outside chance he bites you but once [Music] pot stealing 2 6 3 now it's Rolen with the bases empty and two out takes a strike Rolen pops it up second base position Polanco is under it and game number five goes into inning number four Detroit will bat big bats coming up for the Tigers down one bumping three four five hitters for Detroit against Jeff Weaver that means kyun or Dona isn't Sean Casey one to nothing st. Louis on the RBI hit with two out by Eckstein in the second Kian takes ball one what Detroit needs in the way of opportunities is first and third nobody out first and third one out that's how you get those multi-run innings and Detroit has had a lack of those through these five games thus far he applied out to left his first time up that's the first man comes back for Pujols who limps to the bag one ounce a game summary is brought to you by Verizon Wireless we're here in Game five Cardinals leading three games to one Eckstein with the RBI hit in the second Brandon Inge his third air of this world series Jeff Weaver struck out four of the first five batters and has gone three and a third for the most part Tony LaRussa has not led we bird go to far we look at his last nine starts he's five and two with an ara just over four but in no start did he go past six innings they have limited his exposure and it is paid off as Ordonez takes ball two also Joe we talked about the Tigers and multi-run innings they have had two multi-run innings in this world series two innings in which they scored two runs get it back to Jim Leyland's remarks before the game these guys just have to hit to win and so far that has not happened Ordonez struck out his first time he gets under this one into shallow right center Duncan and it's Duncan who drops it Jim Edmonds did not take charge and Chris Duncan playing and Wright commits his second error of this postseason today you can see Edmonds right there and Duncan ultimately tried to one-hand it I'm not too sure that Jim Edmonds wasn't the guy who got in the way there if he clubbing that that falls into right field if you're the right fielder you got to make that play Edmonds coming over calling for it and now he ducks in I'm not too sure Edmonds wasn't in the way of Duncan is still dropped it but with that much interference general manager Walt Jocketty sent a routine play not made by the Cardinals and now we'll see if the Tigers can take advantage of that mistake by st. Louis Cardinals have taken advantage of Tiger mistakes in this series and now an error on a routine fly ball to right and who better for Detroit to step in right now than their hottest hitter Sean Casey who hits it down the right-field line into the corner gone for a two-run home run and detroit takes a 2 to 1 fourth inning lead an error and a home run on the very next pitch and the Tigers jump on top talk about a momentum changer in a tight beam the error on a routine ball the right next pitch wheeler tries to come inside to KC looked like a cut fastball the boy KC's zeroed in on that one to put the Tigers in front man now with one out Rodriguez trying to bunt his way on fouls it strike water [Music] just did stay fair Casey now Rodriguez flies one to right and Duncan makes the play two out we saw Edmunds earlier in this postseason on a ball and left center cut in front of Chris Duncan to make a play Edmonds was certainly there Duncan was there waiting for that fly ball in right Edmonds ducked behind him Duncan missed it the home run followed the Tigers take advantage of the mistake and now Polanco takes a strike and we get another look Duncan just learning the outfield he makes his second error of this postseason in Polanco it's a one operative Belliard Polanco is now over 16 but the Tigers take the lead an error a two run home run two to one Detroit after [Music] bottom of the fourth inning now Verlander has a one-run lead the Cardinals will have Belliard Molina and Taguchi if anybody gets on Weaver the pitcher 2 to 1 Detroit on top Belliard grounded out with a bases loaded in the first and he hits it here in the left right at Pajaro one pitch one out Tony LaRussa chatted with us during the last break with Tony LaRussa in the top of this fourth inning an error and the Tigers took advantage of it Sean Casey has been red-hot let's talk about Duncan out in right what did you see from the dugout it looked like Edmonds was in a position and then ducked behind Chris Wright as the ball was coming down yeah it looked like Jim got you know they over aggressive and I'm ago routine play for for Chris with you know I think Jim just got aggressive aggressive outfielder and distracting a little bit you know we like being aggressive so that's just a bit party game let's talk about Verlander you you saw him walk three in the first inning throw a couple of wild pitches he settled down a little bit what do you see from the dugout tonight for the young right-hander well you know there's nothing wrong there's stuff with locations been a little off and we missed a couple of chances but you know he's he's a team he's a handful to go against we get the wait and see all right Tony thanks for your time down and away is an extra Molina that count goes to 2 & 1 Joe I have heard you and Troy Aikman and Football announcers talk about a wide receiver hearing footsteps from a defensive back while outfielders hear footsteps - and perhaps that's what happened to Krista Molina has a two-hit night and he's on with one out here in the fourth inning that's his eight multi-hit game in postseason play he had 17 all regular season for the Cardinals he's on with one out here and so Taguchi steps in now that Berlin is throwing more strikes there's a chance that the hit-and-run may be employed right here if you do that with one out the hit and the pitcher on deck you have a chance to get the runner to third with less than two outs ball one you're going to do it now's the time to do it because the counts in the favor of the Cardinals one on one out to Gucci up the middle that's a base ship Molina will stop at second and there are two aboard here in the fourth inning pitch was down and in laced back to the middle by Taguchi and now a visit from me somebody from the dugout to get the spikes or the dirt out of the spikes of Verlander on this wet track Jamie Walker and Jason Grilli the left-hander and right-hander getting loose and that out there think for any sort of an injury visit but they've got somebody out there getting the dirt out of his spikes here seeing that no no i-i've never seen seven guys on the mound trying to help a bit to get dirt out of his spikes remember on a pregame show tonight Joe Girardi talking about putting Pam on the on the spikes before he even had a chance of getting dirt mounted and into the spiked area Kevin Kennedy is Joe Girardi kidding about that how about Lopez mom the bull print no that's that's a guy taking every precaution he's got a rubber glove on his own hand rubber glove on what's that all about [Applause] some of that bomb that we hear now Clemens likes to use that stuff and Weaver trying to punt pops it up and back and out of play the point is about them coming out to get the pond out of the spice of Verlander Leyland trailed everybody out there and as it turned out Leland ends up having a visit with fur Lander and what should be a bunting situation for the Cardinals with two on one out and not much speed at second with Molina the lead runner to fairly under the plate of third by a Detroit pitcher this game is tied and its second and third would only want out unbelievable to 2 and 1/4 second error of the series for Lambert he didn't throw the ball he stood to third base he just tied to push it over there this is such an easy play maybe a double play if he gets into could throw the ball into the baseline Molina scores easily it's a tie game and runners into scoring position that's five games and five errors by this pitching staff two by Verlander it's a fielder's choice E 1 and at second and third Eckstein coming up I think they're gonna walk next time and swing the left-hander in to pitch to Duncan nope gotta suck Jim Leyland go to the four fingers and that time called his Eckstein gets out of there we talked about the squeeze for the first four games there's nobody with whom Tony LaRussa likes to squeeze any more than gave it exile ball one from Verlander the bottom of the order doing the damage and then yet another throwing error by a Detroit pitcher Leland talking to us before the game saying we lose this series that's what everybody's going to be talking about and you can add another pitcher error to the list back Stein hits it to short a run scores right nose lead three to the goose he didn't run right away Jeff legal ran but Taguchi didn't actual again had a play on Taguchi and hold why the delay on taguchi's part I don't know maybe the ball was hit [Applause] right to first base but watch it delay on taguchi's tough play by Guillen and I guess that's why he went to first base but had he come home he's got a shot at Taguchi now runner at third Weaver two out for Duncan down and in ball one Duncan made the error the Tigers took advantage now the throwing error by Verlander leads to one and then another overmatched with a 97 mile an hour fastball it's one the Cardinals did this throughout the NLCS against the Mets the Mets would score the Cardinals would answer they've done it against the Tigers in this world series and they're trying to add to a one-run lead tell you till even though it's a fourth inning with Duncan and Duncan makes the last out I'd put a defensive replacement in for him immediately in this 3-2 ballgame I don't think you could take any more chances with Chris Duncan in right field if you're LaRussa Duncan pops it up on the infield for Guillen the Cardinals get a couple thanks in large part to a throwing error by a tiger pitcher [Music] back here in st. Louis 5th inning now of Game five each team got 2 on the 4th one unearned run scoring against Weaver two unearned runs scoring against Verlander because of his error in the bottom of the fourth fastball misses up an end ball one to Brandon n shoot doubled his first time up Verlander is in the on-deck circle and then back to the top Granderson 1 Oh breaking ball one ball one strike strike two Tony LaRussa talked about errors that pitchers make and some guys he said that's an area where you can't improve and it's something that you know next spring training Jim Leyland will have his pitchers no matter what happens the rest of this series working early and often on pitchers field their position in strikes out strikeout number five for Weaver and fer Lander will be the hitter Fox NFL Sunday returns is the Bucs take on Tiki Barber and the Giants in New York lauren torre holds and the ran flip to slow down LaDainian Tomlinson and the Chargers are other regional action it all begins Sunday with America's number one pregame show at noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Ronde Barber has had a great season his brother Tiki 647 rush yards and he has announced that this will be his final year in the NFL so enjoy it on Sunday Tampa Bay and the New York Giants here's a new one Verlander takes strike two six strikeouts for Weaver back to the top of the order Granderson's singled his last time up came right after Inge was erased being trapped between second and third on a ball hit by Verlander ball one high one-on-one prior to tonight's game rick shite Chevrolet's executive director product development presented a check for over $120,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America for its television player of the game sponsorship cepting on behalf of the Boys and Girls Club Midwest regional vice president John Miller for over 100 years MLB and the Boys and Girls Clubs have been helping to build better communities throughout the u.s. two out nobody on a 2-1 pitch the granderson only one sit down it wasn't down that is by the bat of Curtis Granderson and Lieber could strike out the side here in the fifth league has gotten away with a lot of fast balls up in the strike zone tonight his Tiger hitters with the exception of Sean Casey remain cold [Music] still 2 & 2 yeah you know I could not help but be taken by the lead line of Joe Straus who writes for the st. Louis post-dispatch today and he said even at its highest level the game remains a simple one and think of all the simple things in this series that had not been done by Detroit routine simple every day baseball fans and the Tigers had not executed eight unearned runs allowed by Detroit pritu now a two-out walk see how that starts something for the Tigers it continues the top of the fifth and it brings in their big home run hitter this postseason Craig Monroe who was hit five most ever hit by a tiger in anyone postseason the five home runs hit by Monroe ties Hank Greenberg and the work that he did in World Series play hitting five home runs strike one on a breaking ball on the inside corner to Monroe who's oh for two and now he's 3 out of 18 in this world series off the end of the bat behind third-base next time push it away who's coming up for st. Louis fools will lead it off we had a chat with Jim Leyland during the last break [Music] moves into the bottom of the fifth pulse Edmonds and Rolen for Verlander who was settled down had a rough start in the first inning that's a curve ball which has not been a factor at all tonight for Verlander and that is one of the nastiest pitches in the league that he possesses but with his control issues he hasn't been able to use it Jim Leyland telling us before Justin's first start that the weather could affect his curveball maybe the weather's affecting his curveball tonight it did not game one but it perhaps is a factor tonight cools fouls it out of play in the county after that 98 mile an hour fastball is 2 and 1 this top and I can't remember curveball thrown for a strike by Verlander thus far I can't either check swing he went around fools flips is back at home plate that won't endear him to Tim McClellan who takes a couple of steps in now pools went too far there that's an easy call I don't know why Albert is upset thinking he would get the call but that's a strike McClellan was upset with the way pools reacted breaking ball strikes him out there is a curve ball for strike three and Verlander drops one and on cools and McClelland is looking at Albert pulls all the way back to the dugout but the interesting thing is pools will be going back to first in the top of the sixth inning Verlander misses up and away to Jim Edmonds - a no Edmunds is ill for two and four out of 15 in this world series what a play by Polanco on a short on a backhand to down let's go to Jim Leyland's interview well Jim Leyland I guess we have to talk about the obvious and that's another throwing error by your pitchers out sure you've never seen anything like this and these are great athletes for you that are making bad throws over a third base yeah well we you know I think we just wrote our own record I think we said it yesterday we built it today so I don't know if you can take TFP on the plane but we might have to do something that's pitcher field their position if something Tony was talking about before the game and he said it's something that you know with a lot of work you can get better at and not to make light of a serious situation but for Verlander he bent a little bit Matt first inning but he settled down and he has done his job on the mound that throwing there it was just a big mistake in this game so far yeah well it was a physical area the funny part of odd Joe is the one thing we did work on and the days off when we worked out was the bunt place so we've gone over and we had PSP during that time during our little week off there that we had we will continue the back end of the interview three two after five and Game five we move into the sixth inning here at Game five and the heart of the order will bat for Detroit they have to get something done for the Tigers who face elimination here tonight trying to get the World Series back to Detroit Guillen Ordonez and Casey the red-hot Sean Casey Tim you made mention of it leading into last inning Chris Duncan out in right field to leptin is coming up for the Tigers he and Casey clearly Duncan is in there for his bat but the Cardinals have a tenuous one-run lead and in my view Duncan shouldn't be out there but another right fielder somebody like Preston Wilson to be in there because to me you play four innings of defense right now and Chris is not - best defensive right fielder made the error on the ball hit by or dounia's back at the fort Belliard stays down on it we'll finish our interview with Jim Leyland I asked him to gauge the mood in his dugout with his team trailing here in Game five I think we're good I think I think we're okay I think we have a lot of confidence and you know I think it's obviously it's the moment it happened it's disappointing but I think the guys are into it and they they know what we have to do we're gonna we're gonna have to score some more anyway you're good to talk to us we appreciate it very much thank no problem that's Jim Leyland the manager of the Tigers now Magglio ordóñez with one out nobody on and that's off the end of the bat caught by Weaver two out how about that play you don't know whether Weaver caught the ball or the ball quad Weaver off the end of the bat twisting and turning into the glove of Weaver get Tiger pitchers making throwing errors that have been crippling to Detroit's chances in this World Series and then Weaver here with one out and their hottest hitter Casey coming up stabs that thing back up the middle here is Casey we hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning to put Detroit out in front two to one for a short while last night went deep four out of his last six is Casey with two home runs that he takes outside ball one one in 192 miles per hour from Weaver he has turned in a beauty up to this point has not gone more than six in his last nine starts he has two out here in the sixth [Music] overpowering fastball two flavors [Applause] [Applause] they see hits in Amer - right there's Duncan [Music] to play Casey will end up at second base and there's the tying run as Chris Duncan makes another error in right johnny laruso had a chance to remove Duncan after the fourth inning we talked about it Duncan is not a good fielder but Boches up this ball hit by Sean Casey that should not happen he shouldn't be there two errors on Duncan in this game it's a two base error and now they're taking an error off the board and giving Casey a double but that's clearly a ball that should have been caught in right yep but it goes down as a double instead of the second error either way here's another chance for detroit yvonne rodriguez and now Weaver has to gather himself and calls Molina out to talk so no error they take it off the board and give a double to Sean Casey on a ball that should have been caught in right Game six tomorrow night on the air at 7:30 Eastern that's if necessary from Detroit Rodriguez and company would like to make it necessary here's his chance hole for two tonight one RBI in this world series Weaver trying to pitch her in on the misplaced rank one the despot getting loose for Detroit strike two quite a few times and Weaver is dropped down tonight and delivered its sidearm perfect spot for Rodriguez [Music] [Applause] more relieved in the park that Chris Duncan as he heads off the field right now slated three to you to buy fur Lander two unearned run scoring for the Cardinals because of his latest in the bottom of the fourth and that's the difference here in Game five that's on the outside corner one and one on Ronnie Belliard as we begin the bottom of the sixth inning st. Louis on top three games to one and leading here three two good pitch and a changeup from Verlander one and two Belliard Oh for two tonight Molina with a two-hit night he scored twice breaking ball strikes him out over the inside corner mark Mulder wearing a microphone had this observation for the Cardinals in their dugout upstairs I was upstairs Bennett Bennett said if you look at we were talking about all the errors in the pitchers like move their feet when they throw they've all just picked it up you know when you did it the other one was a pickoff with and then that one we're doing a lot of the end of the bat by Molina it's his third hit of the night and he's on with one out here in the sixth and just to say again Tim PFP is pitcher fields position and that's as we look back the lobby [Music] [Applause] something we talked about with Jim Leyland from the dugout he said that's what we worked on during the layoff between the ALCS on the start of the World Series and it's something that you know they will work on a lot come next February forever next February to thank that a lot of pitchers are used to throwing balls that move also and sometimes they are victims of balls that move when they throw to bases news Taguchi he takes strike one Zumaya getting loose getting late for Detroit down by a run here in Game five down three games to one in this world series the dirt block by Rodriguez to gute you the hit and run scored [Applause] Taguchi is up there to hit with a pitcher on deck no thought of a punt but fur Lander and the Tigers are acting like he's up there throwing over with Molina who's a step off the bag Yadier Molina may be the slowest runner in the National League and that may be the first throw to first base with Molina there all year Johnny's got to be proud of that he's looking over at Oquendo smiling they think god fast - Gucci grounds one to the shortstop and the only play is first out there is Guillen gets to Gucci down to second is Molina with Weaver coming up [Music] again here's a guy at the plate who's doing what he's doing on the mound one earned run through six innings he struck out seven walked one and this is a guy that was cut loose by the Angels put on waivers the Cardinals made a deal for a minor league outfielder to get him the bat pretty well by the way as he fouls it off to the right one where they wanted to give him the ball tonight instead of Anthony Reyes who was the starter and winner in Game one in Detroit 3 and 10 with the Angels seven and six with the Cardinals including the postseason the o2 from Verlander now ball to Polanco five goes into the seventh inning the Tigers will have the bottom three in their lineup as they trail by one back after this from your local Fox station you Weaver back out there for the seventh inning bottom of the order coming up for the Tigers Preston Wilson takes over and left that moves so Taguchi from left to right Chris Duncan is no longer out there in the field for st. Louis Polanco old for 204 16 in the world series and he takes a strike from Weaver one of the best contact hitters in the game is Fernando Rodney gets loose for Detroit in their bullpen round one to the right side course with a stop the outs what a defensive play one out of the seventh my goodness not only the catch growing from his back and the play by Weaver [Applause] just to get Polanco what a play just beating polanco 'he's left foot to the base was the right foot of Jeff Weaver and again you talk about PFP pitcher feeling position yeah good point Weaver over to make the short hop pickup and stomp on the bag to get the first out here in the semi and a fastball hits the inside corner to end this is also one of those situations where a size 13 and a half beats a nine and a half foot of Weaver compared to the foot of Polanco breaking ball outside so Weaver is now officially it's that close it was just before Polanco got there very nearly Placid OHS first hit of this world series side two and one that's one of those baseball plays that you see and you say did I just see that correctly that was sensational keep falling out in front of the plate Molina hops on it here's Alexis Gomez pinch-hitting now for Verlander who went the first six tonight three runs but only one earned gomez has a home run this postseason had happened in the ALCS out in Oakland he'd like to pop one here and draw the Tigers back to even as they face elimination here in Game five not in front of it Weaver fooled him and to Gucci now and right puts it away Weaver through seven what a defensive play by Pujols and Weaver to start the inning Cardinals lead in the series and in this game new pitcher is Fernando Rodney and they're the numbers this postseason he committed throwing error last night on the bunt by Taguchi set up after Granderson slipped on the ball hit by X kinda stretch beginning the bride may pitched brilliantly last night an inning in two-thirds for strikeouts no earned runs the two runs scored on him because of the error five seven 165 pounds David X done to a know one of the great things about the national stage is a guy like Fernando Rodney has a chance to dazzle a national audience I mean this guy with those two pitches fastball change perhaps the biggest difference in those two pitches of any pitcher that I know of in the major way to an ex-con to the left side from the hole again double punches safe the double clutch plenty that's why the throw was late momentarily did not grab the ball the throw is high in x9 Beatson right there pops out of the glove and that cost kia will see out scored a base hit Brett Stein so it is another hit for Eckstein - tonight had four last night realized that David hexton was old for 11 in this world series until his final three plate appearances of Game three who came in having reached base seven of his last plate appearances and he's on base tonight with his second it also has an RBI before that an RBI on a base hit in a second at this point Eckstein is starting to climb into contention for the MVP in his World Series if the Cardinals end up winning it they add Joe normally you wouldn't do this but playing into the weakness of the Tigers I might fun here and punt the ball back to Rodney making throw the ball we Wilson as a guy who's got a blind spot around the letters and the tiger pictures have shown that they are very unstable even though you run the risk of them walking pools but even then not Edmunds - a bunny here not out of the question but looking like he was hitting on that first pitch - Oh from Rodney and a visit from Rodriguez Wednesday night on fox bones returns all new at 8 Eastern 7 central followed by the series premiere of the most anticipated game show of the year the rich list at 9:00 Eastern 8:00 central it all starts Wednesday night right here on Fox and here's yet another one of those visits from manager not pitching coach it's Jim Leyland not Chuck Fernandez trying to guide this young pitching staff through the postseason and it's Leyland doing all the talking yeah the obvious message is don't try to be too fine use the middle part of the plate and take your chances with Preston Wilson with Tigers in the 8th inning will at the top of their lineup Granderson Monroe and Guillen [Music] Joel Zumaya Jamie Walker left-hander getting loose next on it first nobody out - OH - Preston Wilson whoa three and Oh a prio to take ball four two on with nobody out [Music] [Applause] and now pools who has only two RBIs this entire World Series [Applause] [Music] [Applause] six RBIs for pools in this postseason he has not had to carry the Cardinal team to this point up three games to one in the World Series in lead in Game five three to two in the seventh strike one as it pops out of the glove of Rodriguez and normally you may have had a cross up there after that happens Rodriguez going out to talk to ya that was a cross up looking for the change-up he got the fastball fortunately kept them in front of him not only that they get a strike call you drop the ball as a catcher you normally don't get that strike ball rodriguez has played the role of [Applause] psychologists tonight as well as catcher for this Tiger team here's an o1 kendo on its way foul down the line on two you can watch baseball like you never have before the best picture on TV Direct TV as you see fools get out in front [Applause] [Applause] vol 1 hasn't driven in a run in his last 18 plate appearances during the regular season 49 home run to career-high 137 RBIs and a 331 average to lead this team into the postseason two and two [Music] [Applause] teams who have led in World Series play best-of-seven three-games to one or thirty four and five all-time but among those five teams who have lost two of them Cardinal teams st. Louis and 68 to the Tigers in st. Louis in 1985 to the Kansas City Royals Cardinals have lost their last three tries in the World Series Oh for debossed in' 87 to the twins 85 to Kansas City Evon one since 82 fools pops it behind the second base position Polanco is there infield fly rule is called one outs and Pujols has been held in check now it's two on one out for Jim Edmonds [Applause] Edmonds over three tonight Walker is ready in the bullpen no sign of Jim Leyland coming out to make a change that's the thing about Rodney perhaps more than any other American League Pitcher he can neutralize you saw Lloyd McClendon telling the left-hander Jamie Walker to sit down that's because Rodney can neutralize left-handed batters as well or better than any other reliever in the American League that's because of that changeup deadly combination fastball change ball one Edmonds biggest hit of this postseason was the ball he hit against Nate Robertson with a bases loaded one out at the fourth inning of Game three two back Chris Carpenter they could to nothing the Cardinals won that game five nothing Rodney trying to tighten up and keep it a one-run game to a no and rollin on deck [Music] Edmunds came into this game as a 4:17 hitter when the countess started one and oh count in his favor here too and Oh two on one out Rodriguez and Guillen have worn paths to that pitcher's mound tonight by the way the numbers on fur Lander six innings three runs only one earned so he really settled down he gave six hits walked three all three in the first inning struck out four threw two wild pitches kept his team in it but Weaver has out pitched him and threw seven innings has thrown only 82 pitches that go back out there to start the eighth Edmonds can sit on a pitch with a count 2l he fouled a 95 mile an hour fastball straight back [Music] prior to the game to start that Weaver made in Detroit a lot was made the closer for the Tigers Todd Jones saying there's no love loss that Weaver is no longer here the team that selected him 14th overall back in 1998 groomed him got him to the big leagues and then shipped him off in a three-way deal to New York now it's come full circle and Weaver will head back out the top of the 8th inning with a lead of at least one run trying to nail down a world series against Detroit two one two and two the Jim Edmonds guessed right fouled it back he has had several pitches to hit tonight but he's found them straight back looking for a fastball he got it and miffed because he missed it as we look at our United States Postal Service Fox Trax like sit up but that had some jump two on one out two and two on Edmonds here in the seventh reaching for it on a changeup another good pitch from Rodney shallow life for Joanie is two out the banner will be rolling that's the thing about Rodney's changeup it gets strong hitters to bring their hands forward and once their hands come forward you got him tell you Fernando Rodney could provide his team with a lift here in the seventh inning by first getting into trouble and now trying to get out of it by getting Pujols Edmonds and Rolen trying to keep it 3-2 st. Louis with the top of the lineup coming up for Detroit in the eighth Rodney finish off this seventh or will Rowland take a bite out of the Tigers ball one down and away Cardinals have struggled all series long with runners in scoring position there 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position tonight but leading it 3-2 is foul would have scored - it was foul couldn't have been by much as it leaves our line of sight and off the railing to make the count of one in water help it Fernando I hate to walk in the in it Rowland hitless tonight they've been having hip in nine straight games [Music] here comes x9 Cardinals lead by two [Applause] a huge two-out hit by Scott Rolen [Applause] bought up inside-out swing or dounia's in right field has to play Roland deeply respecting his power Ordonez grow home is late [Applause] [Music] to pick for his first hit in 12 at-bats with runners in scoring position this postseason and now a 10 game hitting streak for the Cardinal third baseman now it's Belliard first and third two out for two st. Louis in the seventh strike one Eckstine yet again in the middle of all the action for st. Louis a two-out RBI hit in the second for David Eckstein an RBI groundout the fourth for Eckstein and scores the fourth one of the night here in the 7th of a hit by Rolen strike two on Belliard wait Belliard has been swinging and it has not been good throughout the series LaRussa may think about a double steal right here trying to steal a run it blowin does run you wonder if Rodriguez was with gross food on top of that why not put more pressure on this Tiger defense which has melted in the postseason that's right with a two-run lead you take more chances runner state boy Belliard his jam [Music] is over top of the order coming up for the Tigers the task made more difficult with a two-out RBI hit my role in us now for two Cardinals after seven in Game five look at our travelers in-synch box score and that's what the Tigers have done for this world series as they face elimination Granderson will dig his way in just to 420 with seven strikeouts it doesn't get much better as you go down the list a breaking ball for a strike to start the eighth the top three hitters in the Detroit lineup in this world series hitting a combined 109 which is the second lowest in the history of World Series play - the 66 Dodgers who hit own 91 loosing four in a row to the Baltimore oil that's why when Jim Leyland says you can talk all you want about the mistakes we've made defensively and there have been big ones and another one by Verlander tonight another error by a Detroit pitcher but they have not yet to overcome anything right the one two earlier we showed that graphic about the 79 pirates first time since 1979 that a team and made five errors in the first five World Series games the Pirates could make up court the Lumber Company of 1979 they won that World Series against Baltimore - and to find it surprising that leading 4-2 with a chance to win the World Series Weaver on the mound nobody is getting loose for the Cardinals in their bullpen I agree Granderson pops it out behind second Edmonds is there one out seven and a third from Jeff Weaver the last time during the season that he pitched into the eighth inning August 17th against Cincinnati his last complete game was last year when he had three for Los Angeles now Randy Florez will get loose with Monroe at the place [Applause] Weaver will throw his name onto the list of unlikely postseason heroes as he's done it the entire postseason for the Cardinals ball one one Game two of the Division Series in San Diego lost Game one of the NLCS at the Mets but pitched well gave up just two runs on four hits the home run by Beltran outside two and one he won Game five of the NLCS here against the Mets lost Game two turned in five innings at Detroit but nobody was going to beat Kenny Rogers that night what you want minor role pops it up out of play to and to the Cardinals getting Weaver on July 5th from the Angels for a minor league outfielder named Terry Evans Jared Weaver Jeff's younger brother is 11 and 2 for the angels and one of the reasons why the Angels cut Jeff loose [Applause] a slider pleases his younger brother now kyun Detroit needs a baserunner here in the eighth-inning to bring up Ordonez they trail by two - and Oh he and just trying to find any way he can to break this string by Weaver and give or dounia's a chance Magglio the on-deck hitter is 2 out of 18 with Nova RBIs in this world series I like that from he and he was taking a strike taking all the way [Music] gotta get out of play 2 & 2 [Applause] [Applause] good rip like Carlos Guillen came into tonight's game with a career 368 average during postseason play he's open three against Weaver [Music] [Applause] [Music] a silver and Molina hits it in the air to left centerfield Granderson back with room one out Molina made a bid for his fourth hit of the night Jeff Weaver got through eight [Applause] when the Cardinals hoping that it ends tonight Jeff Weaver did all he could he will give way to Wainwright he wants one more from big brother Jeff it looks like Wainwright will take over and Weaver the game of his life eight innings two runs one earth four hits one walk nine strikeouts as Zumaya is on here in the bottom of the eighth to Gucci a hit and a run scored tonight one ball one strike Scott spiezio has come into the on deck circle no bat for Weaver breaking ball from Zumaya good 1 1 & 2 this Tigers team in the World Series has scored 11 runs and committed eight errors and that combination won't beat anybody one out nobody on one ball two strikes on Taguchi two out seemed like every hour [Music] was damaging to the Tigers cause gun will raced by good defensive play in that hand given for Jeff Weaver in the job he has done tonight and for the heroics during the LCS by spiezio yeah that the big hit in Game two to help the Cardinals get out of Shea Stadium with a split for coming here winning two out of three and then winning in game 7 over the Mets vo goes after the first pitch pops it up Casey is there thanks to play two NBA who's coming up for Detroit as they face elimination it'll be our dounia's Casey and Yvonne Rodriguez against Adam Wainwright ninth inning game [Music] [Applause] adam wainwright the 25 year old rookie closer and to try and end the World Series skips the first one in there to Magglio ordóñez all Detroit needs is a base runner to have a chance for two Cardinals top of the ninth inning or dounia's Casey and Rodriguez the middle three for the Tigers to a no Detroit has three outs for two runs Wainwright got the win last night once again Detroiters only scored two runs in an inning three times in this world series [Music] three and one [Applause] Tony LaRussa the Cardinal manager is managing in his fifth World Series he is one at once back in 1989 with Oakland he has never had more to do with in a season down the stretch and he has never done a better job of managing a team I couldn't agree with that more [Music] second baseman Belliard trying to recover one awhile [Applause] that was a fine play by Belliard the ball off the glove I believe of Wainwright slowed it belly are charging to get our donors what a play by Belliard as the defense say for two plays in right-field by Duncan tonight as shine for the Cardinal so they go to catch by Weaver you think of that play by pool Holson Weaver to start the seventh inning now off Wainwright's glove to Belliard one out here's Casey the Tigers hottest hitter [Applause] [Music] the kid who took over as the closer for Jason Isringhausen in September as La Russa remade the bullpen [Music] [Applause] Wainwright hits the glove ball one [Applause] Adam Wainwright would go through stretches in the minor leagues after the Cardinals picked him up following the 2003 season where he would be unhittable and then really struggle he was quoted as saying in the minor leagues he had to work on his mental strength to stay sharp every time out Valley's a big league closer and looking for the final outs of the 2006 World Series two and two on Casey this might be the last game that he's asked to close he may be a starter next to you [Applause] old cow again the Tigers need one guy to reach to have a chance Ivonne Rodriguez on deck into right field well head to duty on the run will not get there it's off-the-wall Sean Casey redhot he digs for second he's content with a one-out double and the Tigers have a chance thanks to their hottest hitter Sean Casey with a one-out double here in the ninth two doubles a home run a two-run shot to account the only Tiger runs what an at-bat by Casey who is not a fast runner Macie will be lifted for a pinch water raided in the dugout after back-to-back sensational night swinging the bat three hits last night three hits tonight Ramon Santiago takes over as the runner out at second base if Santiago represented the tying run I could understand that vote but if they the Tigers tied this game and Casey's spot comes up again Jim Leyland may be sorry pinch ran for here this one's the third run not before Rodrigues Oh for 3 tonight 3 out of 18 in this world series [Music] last home run Pudge Rodriguez hit to the ALCS Game one against the A's at 13 during the regular season tying run at the plate - I know for Adam Wainwright [Music] Tigers trying to spoil it here in st. Louis and get the series back to Detroit first two hours [Applause] one thing Wainwright did after jamming Rodriguez ball off his glove he took his time to get Rodriguez now Polanco who was over 17 the MVP of the American League Championship Series trying to get his first hit at four home runs during the regular season it's not gone deep in the postseason he will take anything a bleeder a flare in the World Series right now [Applause] [Applause] [Music] on deck is in to hit 27 home runs during the regular season awfully big hole between pools and guy who hits the ball the right field a lot [Applause] [Music] strike two [Applause] just low 2 & 2 & Polanco and the Tigers were at the mercy of the home plate umpire John Hirschbeck who was and Polanco was frozen at the point two balls two strikes [Applause] [Music] [Applause] sports away santiago over to third and the cats now three and two on Polanco should be a wild pitch on Wainwright and it is five hitter and Brandon and John death [Applause] [Music] [Applause] outside ball four and it's two on two out and Inge coming up now Dave Duncan will go out and talk to his rookie closer as the Tigers have the tying runs on and a guy at the plate who last night against Wainwright doubled into deep right-center field for an RBI fee by pinch running Ramon Santiago for the next-to-last one you don't have to [Music] his power and production has increased year by year and now he stands at the plate and with one swing could turn this game around 27 home runs on the year he doubled off Wainwright in last night's game [Music] [Applause] strike one see Molina faking to first base and Albert pools given him the calm side don't be throwing down here foolishly and throwing a ball into right Feliz type challenge the stopper wants for the Tigers in at the plate for the Tigers strike two [Applause] last night in chat a fastball he hasn't seen one a visit back yet [Applause] for the first time since 1982 st. Louis has a World Series winner [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause]
