[Music] the road to a showdown with top-ranked USC and a pac-10 title begins today at the Rose Bowl for undefeated UCLA in town tonight from Pasadena California TBS Saturday night college football presented by Orbitz kicks off now and it is a battle of undefeated in ranked teams as UCLA number 16 of the country plays host to number 9 California hello again everybody along with Charles Davis Omron thulon and despite their best start since 2001 UCLA head coach Carl Terrell says this is a measurement game they're going to find out just who they are well we do know who three of their players are and we also know Charles that these three guys have to play big tonight if the Bruins want to win and we have to find a nickname for these three guys I mean calling them the big three is somewhat unimaginative but it is apt because they lead UCLA from the offensive side drew Olson is the quarterback completing nearly 70% of his passes and he led to comeback win against Washington so proficient in the fourth quarter Maurice drew is dynamic at the tailback position as well as in the punt return game you put him in the open field look out but marseille d's lewis is the best tight end in college football they have to continue to find ways to get him the football because these three lead UCLA who they believe is the best team in los angeles that you may not have heard of well Cal comes in with a pretty good offensive their own they're number two in the conference and rushing the football but it has been their defense that's kicked it up a notch the last two and a half games yes and the defensive coordinators name is Bob Gregory for many of you who may not know because Jeff Tedford is the head coach in the face of California football but their defense leads the pac-10 in total defense as well as scoring defense they have been given up a touchdown in their last 10 quarters and they're back loaded Donnie mcclewsky the defensive back rover is an all-america candidate Harrison Smith a former coroner is now the free safety and has helped solidify that secondary Damian Hughes two interceptions against Arizona last week the pac-10 Defensive Player of the Week and Tim Mixon very good at the cornerback position those four lead Cal from the defensive standpoint now let's get down to the nitty-gritty the importance of this game is not lost on either coach they realized whoever wins you're at a collision course with USC yes and not just for a pac-10 title for a Rose Bowl berth in a national championship game berth whoever wins this game they've got the Trojans in their sight and that game will happen later this year is this game important of course it is it's a big one at home field has meant something in this series at least in the last couple of years in fact the last five meetings between these two teams the home team has won we've got California we have UCLA they're undefeated they're coming up next on CBS all right if you take a look at Jeff Tedford 30 and 13 he's 15 and 3 when he's ranked in the top 25 you can see he was coach of the year in the pac-10 a couple of times and o2 and o4 he has resurrected his programs he's taking over a team that was one in 10 turned it around and a bowl game is obvious for this team now Carl Darrell in his third year at 16 and 13 he said he's really learned how to be a head coach over the last couple of years he was a standout receiver here from 82 to 86 still 10 in UCLA history in receptions Cal won the toss they deferred UCLA will be getting the ball first and this is very important his field position Jeff Tedford thinks they're giving up way too many yards on kickoffs well they gave up a kickoff return for a touchdown against New Mexico State and last week in the game we did at kau they gave up a punt return for a touchdown that was called back due to a penalty so they put special emphasis on special teams this week especially be sure to get people on the ground put into that one UCLA will take the knee they'll begin first through 10 from their own 20 the first possession of the game to UCLA offense led by Drew Olson he's a senior from Piedmont California having a solid year completing nearly 70% of his passes and I think we've seen this young man for three years now Charles what we've noticed this year is his confidence well what we what we've observed is a young man who came back from a torn up knee in a bowl game last year and accepted the challenge of getting himself into better shape and making this football team his and all his teammates say it is definitely this point the game keeps the legs pumping gets five eye on the play before Anthony Felder brings him down and the rest of this UCLA offense it's a multiple offense young offensive life three sophomores start but the leader is Center mike.mccluskey he's a four-year starter and at the skilled positions keep an eye on on Joe Howard he's a clutch receiver second on the team in receptions this year and down we thought about fire this is first pass to the evening almost picked off it spot at the 40 yard line Everett makes his way into cow territory down to the 49 yard line Marcus Everett the sophomore out of West Hills California very nice throw by drew Olsen but watch the concentration by Marcus Everett number 9 because Damien Hughes number 13 for Cal came underneath he thought he had an interception was in great position unable to get his hands on the ball Everett didn't allow the defensive back flashing in front of him to affect his concentration and turned it into a big play for UCLA he has been such a big boost for this chase he's missing a couple of days I'll go from the iPhone nation little play-action to go listen that deep out is for the father incomplete now this is going to be interesting because they're infer as is only averaging about thirty nine yards of Kinnick and chin mixing all the best in the country currently fourth this is a low line drive kick on another bad kick by Perez and now it's going to get good field position and only covered 32 yards [Applause] now this Cowell offense we weren't sure how they were going to be this year but they have generated more than seven yards of play they're led by quarterback Jojo Ayub making a sixth division one start coaches tell us the game is starting to slow down for this young man and that's natural coming from junior college because when we talk about the game slowing down that means he doesn't feel rushed or jittery appeal that the things are moving by too fast for him that means is more in control and right now that's exactly what I'll need from their quarterback this town in ten take it over on the 25-yard line possession for the cow bears an a he was going to go to the air and he's going to go for the deep ball found a stylized streaking incomplete intended for Robert Jordan Marcus Cassell is there on the coverage one of the problems we saw last week with Joe au overthrows it hasn't had the right touch on the deeper passes that he's thrown that wasn't too far this one too short how to receive her open could have been a touchdown and then later in the ballgame this is one of the better balls he threw even though he overthrew it cuz he finally let it out a little bit and kept missing talking a little bit more after this play about how Jeff Tedford has tried to solve it inside the hoop out of this this week just before snip now in the backfield by himself the wide receivers show [Applause] tomorrow at the 18 look at the blocking that he gets look at the big fella pulling around that Scot Smith number 52 from his tackle position opening up a big gap for four said look at the stutter step that he puts on Jared page number four a four-year starter at safety for UCLA before he's bunt bounced out of bounds nice move by fourth set kind of gives it to him takes it away and gains an additional 10 to 15 yards after it that's his longest run of the year it covered 57 yards and Cal already knocking on the door [Music] Jepson guys for the end zone he's going to come up a little bit short let's see what the official says they're going to talk about it looks like he was shot at about the one I think that's where they're going to market UCLA said he fumbled the football but I think he was out of bounds before that she was the official say it is fourth down let's look at it again watch how they influence everyone going one way and coming back the other into the left of your screen labelled Hawkins right there number seven he gave the key block DeSean Jackson was finally tripped up before being knocked out of bounds that's number 15 Marcus to sell the Justin Forsett lives up behind Chris mandarine or the fullback let's see how UCLA reacts to them and they come right out of here Ron we're set right into the line of scrimmage touchdown town Jeff Tedford steam takes an early six-nothing lead we have played less than two minutes and 15 seconds very impressive drive setup by Justin for such long run and Deshawn look Jackson on the controversial call and the extra point on its way by Tom Schneider only missed two in two years [Applause] right through the middle Justin Forsett with the touchdown his fifth rushing touchdown of the season and Cal takes it early 7-nothing lead in Pasadena [Music] gals taking a 7-nothing lead if you get a good look at Royce hall absolutely beautiful campus not too far away we have the Rose Bowl in Pasadena California 24th year for the Bruins to be playing here seats well over 91,000 about 80,000 going to be on hand all set up by Justin Forsett longest run of the year covered 57 yards that's why Cal has the one left or seven nothing lead and now they're set to kick it away the rolling is booming doing the kickoff duties turn right at the door Marty footballers who said they'd kill me handed and they do [Applause] Chris Burch looked like he came up with a football Darrell Darrell has got to settle down his truce because you can see what they've done on turnovers this year let's see who got to get the hit they stripped it out great play on the kickoff coverage they put emphasis on it that looked like Byron's store number 38 the basket pulled back and stripped the ball three before Chris Proulx came up with it let's see if Jeff Tedford attacks right away with Joey you throwing the football Marshawn Lynch has not been in yet his floor set stays in it goes they play action looking over the middle now they go to the left side man open touchdown AR yes Greg Stevens his first reception for a TD this year Craig C Stevens the shopper out of San Pedro California peninsula high school UCLA is shell-shocked right about now the Bruins came into the game plus 7 in turnover ratio after that giving that when they dropped the plus 6 but more importantly gave up 6 on the first play at you with the touchdown pass the holders the kicker and the extra point is good and Jeff Tedford steam has gone up 14 to nothing this was a team that was supposed to be rebuilding this year that hasn't been the case we're going to take a timeout we have played Leslie three minutes in the ball game and already the cow fares have a two-touchdown advantage over the Bruins [Applause] a driving spiral and it's gonna meet yard-line Running Room inside the 20-sided fire look at how the wall is set for more eased rules he gets to it and then he gets a nice block here coming up and they turns it back inside on Harrison Smith who helped prevent the touchdown with great hustle by number 17 Randy Bundy but look at the wall is totally set and he just runs to each stagger point here's a great block they're picking up the punter Loney 69 yards Charles on the return out you feel like you can make this one touchdown game Olson [Applause] Joe Collins first touchdown reception of the year the junior from Pico Rivera California never underestimate that the comeback against Washington dip for UCLA lastly they understand how to play and in situations when they're down we talked about the joke palette as a clutch receiver we slot there unloved with Tom Cable did on the first play after the punt return he emulated Jeff Tedford feeling as if Cowell might be a little bit disorganized let's go right after and let's attack now you know let's not run me one ball inside let's not be safe let's go ahead and go and Joe Cowen easy little route just across the goal line blood into zone more receivers than cow could cover Cowan open for the TD David Lough Neagh now standing at his 32 yard line Rory scoot back at his tenure around his last return 69 yards he's third in the country in punt returns Lola needs to get a good one off here not much of a breeze then one on the line of scrimmage for UCLA when it comes when they get back and loan against the hostile a dick we've got to do a little and we'll mark it out and about the 23 yard line welcome back to TBS Saturday night college football presented by number two Cal has the lead it 14 to 7 along with Charles Davis and Craig Sager I'm Ron Phoolan welcoming you back to absolutely beautiful Pasadena California and the amazing Rose Bowl now had that 10 quarter scoreless streak that their defense had met anybody scored on who snapped in that opening quarter UCLA threatening now as we begin quarter number two going to tie this game up Everett in motion la we ran over Harrison Smith on that play well quick Sega brought up Vince Lombardi and here tom cable channeled in and said power football to tight ends on that play go straight ahead and desmond bishop number 10 mister tackle in the hole a maurice tree that carries it in and possibly a tie ballgame the extra point is good we talked about Carl Darrell telling us that he gained experience last year from big games it's showing now nice job there by Marseilles T's Lewis number 19 occupying Ryan Fults the outside linebacker with a block at the line of scrimmage and once and once drew went through the line and looking outside marcus everett number 9 then have to be a great block just good positioning on Damien Hughes and once drew broke the tackle of Bishop number 10 he was wide open all right this came we talked about their winning streak they have been hot in fact their last loss came about a year ago October 9th 2004 to USC and see what happened in the last two positions it had to kick it away after scoring on their first two first 500 starts was 1996 for this couch team led by Jeff Jensen looking for their first win here at UCLA since 1999 hey Roy action cam looking for the deep down the middle has a man complete it's Jackson he's got the first down and then some but mark it out in about the 47 yard line that's his fourth catch already tonight at 14 coming into the gauge where she had that nine reception 130-year performance against New Mexico State what happened on this place at UCLA took a gamble that Cal was going to try and establish their offensive line and running the football and they took Jared page number for their strong safety and moved him up into the box as a third linebacker inside so he could not be occupied he wasn't named available to help in the pass game DeSean Jackson ran free and hey you found in the great protection [Music] looky looky here comes garage she has to throw it out of bags and throw it away smart heads-up play intended for Robert Jordan but he just ran out of real estate there see I really think the offensive line for Cal has to establish themselves at the line of scrimmage now depth every called this game but I think it a bit in Reverse today as we look at it normally all year long they brush more than they passed right that's right today he's passed it 12 times and rushed it sick because he wants to loosen up the defensive front with UCLA he knows that Larry Phil's going to float the box eight or nine people in that middle area to try and take away the one game and now he has to hit some passes in order [Applause] [Music] they may mark it right at the first down line I think he picked up about ten on that play Dennis keeps coming up to make the big hit Spencer Havener helping him out or said he may be a little guy at 5-8 180 but he's got some pop to him came out of Grace Prep high school at Arlington Texas they packs a little punch doesn't he his head coach in high school his man by name of Mike barber pretty well known there's a tight end in the NFL and Mike barber blocked for Earl Campbell moody and Eric Dickerson he knows a little bit about running backs and greatness yes he says this guy is going to be a great running back on any level he plays and we're seeing it already Marshawn Lynch is coming to the lineup the left for town of course down at ten now which heat bus to the off side get the first down inside the 30 and they'll mark him out at the 35 yard line well I tell you what you've got that one-two punch you can see how heavily taped up that hand is for Marshawn Lynch but by golly you got one guy get ten the next guy gets 12 well take a look here you know he's talked about the box area how many are in the box look for UCLA one two three four five six seven they want eight in the run game they don't have eight so what happens see that the gaps have been created go back to the graphic did they showed us a little while ago these world passes versus six runs and there's Marshawn Lynch switching hands to the bad hand here remember after last gate last week's game he said he wanted to keep it in one hand because of padding and we saw him try and switch it one time got hit on that hand and the ball came out Snyder is gonna attempt about a 43-yarder 23 - kick blitz the upright officially they're going to call it a 32 yarder his first made in that distance this year that was it up to get Cal the lead at 1714 12 25 left in the opening half you look at Bob Gregory the defensive corner trying to get a rhythm back last week he he had a total rhythm against Arizona in their offense almost seemed to anticipate every play call UCLA has had him back on his heels the last couple of drives able to get some semblance of it back on this mixer standing back at his 30-yard line that's a pretty good kick I'll take it at the 28 yard line gets by the first wave skipped over a couple of tacklers gets up through the 38 yard line 47 yards on the kick we'll call it about 10 on the return we were tied at 14 now get the field goal their last possession that's why they lead with 1151 and quarter number two second and 10 he doesn't add that kashish complete for Robert Jordan he is drop and that before he gets the first out it gets a new CLA territory pickup of 15 on the play for Jordan he is such a smooth runner when he runs his batter give a lot of credit to the offensive line because and you've had plenty of time to deliver this one the Jeff Tedford did a good job in pass protection Marshawn Lynch number 10 we showed you Maurice drew protecting about Lynch protecting his quarterback and what he did was he kept the tight end in didn't send him out on the pattern and checked him in the block to ensure enough time to throw the ball around the 46 yard line he's built some numbers hasn't he yes he has what about five minutes gone here in the second to the outside look at him find the hole he may have another first down he is so tough to bring down Jerrod page the senior coming up to make the stop but watch how he stuttered stepping then boom he hits that hole again now against two backs watch this see that's the box alright see how many people are in the box loaded up seven guys there ain't guys in the box but they still were able to block it great block by mandarine oh right there then loud Marshawn Lynch to bounce outside and get a first down that's determined running a depth effort in his offensive line understanding how the block even went overloaded that's an emotion another first down for Farah protection is there again that goes deep into the proto-fascist touchdown Jackson 35 yards for DeSean Jackson his third receiving touchdown of his career at Cal you know a long time ago I said that would tell you how Joey you've been improved or tried to improve as a deep ball blower but they they they work they work on the same to prac the practice field at Cal is the game field and they spread it half defense half offense well they found they were able to get their passes off deep enough so they moved and adjusted and allowed Joey you to throw more long ball and it paid off stop and start there and look at this adjustment by DeSean Jackson a freshman catching the ball over Dennis Keyes and taking it in for a touchdown another punt for UCLA cows defense starting to get back into the game very well this is wannabe returnable but mixers going a lot of violence there goes our defense a UCLA roll gets inside the 20 will go down to about the 17 yard line you see Marvin Phillip back on the sidelines I'm sure they're going to try and take him up and if he can go he's gonna come running back out there that's not my call the coaches tell you know what's best Arshad right straight ahead yeah none first down he's got a inside the 50 stutter stepping his way inside the 40 down to the 38 yard line and again Cal on first down doing a great job Robert Jordan the wide receiver had to keep block on that and the offensive line is creating holes and watch man Moreno 27 leading see the hole those guys doing a great job getting what they call a hat on a hat and marrying up in getting people down field and also DeSean Jackson number one Robert Jordan number 11 the wide receiver position look at the blocking downfield and Marshawn Lynch reading those blocks see them to set it up outside keeps taking it keeps taking it and then gets what he can we who say they feel like it was too much they found themselves offense today and then the UCLA defense comes up with a stopped out effort to stop Justin Forsett Spencer Havener senior out of Nevada City California now when we met Spencer last year clean-cut looking guy looks like he should sing in the choir he's trying to get that linebacker look working there you know he's got the goatee in the whole nine yards now he's one of those guys who always finds himself around the football nine career interceptions he just does a great job he has four defensive touchdowns in his career that's first on the UCLA career list and he led the pac-10 in tackles last year look for the football the reel usually find number 41 around it [Applause] I'm second in 10 steps up in the pocket is crowded he's going deep down the far side is it thought is it picked off it's going to be caught by Jordan and Marcus to self fight for it given to Jordan tie goes to the offensive player and before I see this replay I'm going to first guess that there was an interception and Robert Jordan turned it into a completion that's my that's my gut instinct by what I saw because the ball was pretty short now watch Jordan come back Cassell's inside see he's got it and Jordan takes it from him you tie goes to the offensive player Cassell battling for it Jordan coming inside and the count bear wins the battle by 7 yards let his own teammate 132 have one blocked already this year he's 1 for 2 this year from this distance heyyou gives the holder [Applause] good kick but a humans 2 for 2 tonight on field goals he's 4 for 7 on the year that makes it a 13 point lead [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Damien Hughes on the stop he's what they call the home run hitter for this office horizontal football but what they like about Chris Marquis is that after Maurice Dru dances and darts and Jukes and loosens you up a little they run him back inside the tackles and he's much more of a north/south runner they talked about the red zone these guys are so good 17 of 18 one of them was a meal.now coming into this game we have the big part of the stat 15 touchdowns out of the 17 scores that's impressive they need a touchdown on this red zone appearance which can go from the tank straight ahead running marquees inside the five down to about the two and a half yard line right now the offensive front of UCLA is gashing the defensive front of cow there's mike.mccluskey number 59 they're starting Center Robert Cleary number 75 the offensive guard who came in to replace Chris Joseph's we went out with injury in the first quarter saw Shannon toboggan number 71 who they did can be dominant and now this is the updated red zone UCLA 18 of 20 16 touchdowns on the year as he attempted again warden of the goal-line by about a yard [Applause] you almost get the sense this is four down territory called the rel because a field goal would be nice but you don't want to come away feeling like cow gained an advantage by you not going and getting a touchdown does that make sense that's exactly right now account will mentally gain an advantage if UCI has to kick the field goal here I think he's picked up four downs and going for the whole thing back into the game [Applause] girl Olson did a nice job of leading this team came up with a big pass play got a couple of good runs from Glory's true and also from Chris Marquis second rushing touchdown of the day fundamentals blocking and tackling on the last play touchdown all across the front Maurice to have an easy path to the end zone [Applause] shifter but here's the touchdown again look out everyone is engaged upfront pat on hat no problem for Drew to get there Sammy's gonna go paddle look fast gonna be the bigger man on that what did I do he won again 27 to 21 that's the way we're going to go to the break at halftime Jeff tip for squad went up 14 nothing UCLA came back to tied at 14 then Cal went up 27 14 and then with 21 seconds left in the half Maurice crew cut that lead down to six here's Craig Sager with Jeff Tedford he opened up with a 14 I lead you still have the lead now but you feel so now it's gone over the other side let's go back and forth you know we we got down in there would have been nice to score that touchdown we got to put it in down there UCLA's a great football team and it's gonna be a good second half we're just got to play discipline you've been containing Mercedes Lewis but what about Maurice Drew and he changes for him here in the second half well we got a tackle bet he's a great player he's hard to tackle we've got a gang tackling because he's a pretty special guy thanks a lot bye q1 all right thanks Craig Sager 27 21 is their halftime score coming up it'll be Ernie Johnson in our studios in Atlanta with all the scores and highlights from today ten on the line of scrimmage drew standing back in his 18 moment this time a much better kid [Applause] Jeff Tedford said special teams comes down to tackling it also comes down to kick into one of the most dangerous returned men in all of college football he's got a 69 yarder in an 80-hour now more importantly a UCLA is taking their first lead of the game Jeff Tedford talked about you've not going to change personnel with this work for on tackling well I think they're gonna take about personnel after tonight Maurice drew submits his reputation as one of the best punt returners in the country the Braves have won the last two games here at the Rose Bowl between these two teams they have fought back tonight from a forty no deficit a 13-point deficit and now the Braves with their first advantage of the game courtesy of that man 150 yards and returns tonight maurice dream david Lodi's four points equal hunt 141 yards do the math see how cow answers the bit Bo Ted could talk about the momentum stage that's where they're trying to get a pretty good return from well Hawkins panics now after the one-game ounces stuffed up he just drags a bunch of UCLA Bruins with him as he gets up to almost a 35-yard line Davis made the first hit but the first hit isn't going to cut it was Marshawn Lynch I'm gonna answer your question partner about the panic ya know because neither one neither one of these teams is built that way called Darrell's done a terrific job building his team to a point where they will not panic right and they talked about that earlier this year that they've seen the benefits of the offseason Cal has been there before - on the Jeff Tedford I think we just got a good old-fashioned great game tonight with two big time teams before Seth dives to get to the corner and he does and he's got the sidelines he's got a footrace inside the 30 inside the 20 yard down of the 18 he stops the touchdown watch outside that's bad David Grave gives a block right there but the battle was won by four sent one on one against number four Jarrod page and he picked up another block downfield from a wide receiver third down and goal immediately dropped at the 8 yard line it'll be a loss of three Dennis keeps coming up from that free safety spot the sophomore out of Birmingham High School in Canoga Park I think for Jeff Tedford right now his screen game has just been taken out by UCLA hee hee because what's happening is UCLA's diagnosing the play quickly and then running underneath the blockers Dennis keys out brand the CAO blockers trying to come and get him and that's how he created the plaque match letters got it from 32 in 27 this is going to be spotted at the 25-yard line let's hit let's flip the uprights and it is good so we've got another bleeder and it is cow they've retaken the advantage with 438 to play named quarter number three this becomes a very essential part of both these games to punting the Nixon bear catches it at the last second at the 27 yard line boy who threw that hand up quickly 46 yards on the kick we're detaining a you tries to set up the street and then down and open over the 30-yard line of the 35 still pushing this feat is March 9 lotion two packs moving with them burst now that is an unbelievable effort by Marshawn Lynch that should have never happened that play was made strictly by Marshawn Lynch he made a first down out of nothing because UCLA diagnosed to play well see the first hit by Moline runs through it till the other guys trying to get in there resist e61 Jared page for 22 that's Michael Norris and a host of UCLA Bruins and he turned it into a first down he didn't even start tonight or said Wow I also like the less odd to Sean Jackson the only freshman sticking his head in there [Music] [Applause] the middle course set he's got another foot race too stiff time but he's run out of bounds by keys another game-saving tackle by denis keys any we talk about first down place here he comes look at the line nice double team there as number 75 Eric Robertson looked like number 52 Scott Smith with a great double team and banging him down and creating the big hole Erin Murray 65 getting a hat on someone before Dennis Keyes runs for set out of bounds moving you are John the pickup balls now on the 23 he'll motion again the graduated exceptional inside the 15 March Tom lives close to our Napa first and 10 line we know we talked at the beginning of the third quarter well Jeff Tedford just try to rely on his offensive line which guys out of the way we're getting our answers well they're starting to get it together again there's four set number 20 City coach I'm ready Marchand okay I'm fine look at that not almost 20 yards per carry again [Applause] it'll go down efficiently as an 11 yard touchdown run but Marshawn Lynch he has carried not only this offense on his back but also the UCLA defense got terrific block by number 75 Eric Robertson rolling around on his guard position and leading in the hole to be much on Lynch's class he needs to rest UCLA took a 2827 leave but again now with ten unanswered pointers with TV again there's Robertson right there he see that lead 75 then he gets some help there from man to Reno great block downfield that's 11 Jordan and then of course Marshawn Lynch he's a lot like Hannibal Hannibal right taking those elephants across the Alps everybody said he couldn't get there remember what he said I'll either find a way or I'll make one and that's Marshawn Lynch [Applause] La Defense is fighting a fighting fatigue and they're burying in it man when if you might want to run lint on the draw here a suppressor a you've seized the tries to get his tight and it's incomplete Stephens thought he had and he was backpedaling and just couldn't get the hands on it the pressure was put on by T's again who's playing a whale of a game here they come they brought the house on this one Larry Curly defense coordinator safety blitz Dennis Keyes number 11 Haven around the coverage and just enough to distract Stephens him it would have to make a very difficult catch setting up another field goal attempt another good job by you still his defense forcing them to attempt the field goal that's up to keep them in the game when you build it 36 yards the usual he's got to take advantage of it's not a perfect tonight he's got it perfect again and it's a 12-point advantage but there's still plenty of time left in this game this cow looking to go six you know for the first time since 1951 happy Waldorf with nine and OH there's the classic what a big chunk of it as it goes over the minute over the 40 to the 42 yard line Ryan Moya the true freshman I'll bring up 1/4 pound and it'd probably be about 2 yards short and he didn't they'll have to think about the new CLA sideline because they know that defense is tired he the call Darrell is going to go ahead and punt the football and ask his defense to make a big stand eighty-four thousand on hand and they don't like it we're lettin Carlo who's been under a lot of pressure here at UCLA even postholing in his third year because of what's going on a USC in the great job that beat carol's down well here's the problem I know the fans walk them to try and keep the ball they look at the clock they look at this the field position dictates and they're gonna fit [Applause] Aaron page from the D says and the baseball player you know what my surprises is that Cal is not in punch safe because you just got to figure you know here all I want is the football after the play personal foul on the defense [Music] [Applause] Justin boy smacking someone in the back over the sidelines the person who wasn't even really in the play at that point little bit of frustration after they had gotten to put the punt fake down then so bull said no we just uh fight off the tournament also he's gotten younger and he's okay smart like I said you get smart you get dumb pretty quickly in this profession [Applause] and it's a big pile he's buried the officials aren't marking it at the goal line it'll be about a yard short or let a half yard sure that's it's a night of Emmett touch zip strippers cable will took a look [Applause] the Olson tries to make himself small tries to burrow in and then he got some help from the backside guys trying to push and shove and it works for the UCLA Bruins [Applause] all set up by Jared page on the fake pay taking no chances policy just bury his head his first rushing touchdown of the year and UCLA is back in it they trail by just five they only need about four inches Lynch behind au he stuffed down and fall forward that's what he does well he's got it he leaves up over the 40-yard line that should be enough and give him credit Ron he set this up previously all right watch rajim go behind the all-american phillip 54 nice block by phillip wedging just enough of a hole almost takes you back to 1967 Green Bay Packers Dallas Cowboys against ball right John Kennedy Bowman running behind Jerry Kramer under Jerry Kramer Kenny Bowman Bart Starr sneaking it in hey you getting the first down but eight years running intelligently previously that set up the first down of town inside of for 25 the defense stretches it he changes directions but he's going to go down and we'll lose about a yard hate her again and I'll attack he's in double digits tonight we said he was the leading tackler coming into this game [Music] are burstin ten line is brought to you by nepo okay here's the thought Larry Kerr the defense coordinator told us what in our in our conversation with him we must load up against the run of cow without being extreme can't give up the big cast flat and they're gonna load up big here because cows show inside that this time to run out the clock this Jeff Tedford fake it will play action time sting here we've got eight the Box almost nine now they're moving back there in there Nicola hey you quickly after the shrine Jackson over the 45 to the 48 yard line pick up about eight on the play tray brown on the coverage and the clock goes inside of 320 now the chess match continues because it's third down and short now somewhat short this could be a run down for cow so did you load up and come out from if you're Larry Kerr and take the chance and that's what Jeff Tedford is going to do because I'm thinking Jeff Tedford made me thinking four downs here himself is it just if he went for a previous that most important defensive play for the Bulls third down and three something big happened John up here Nichkhun pass incomplete intended for John Orestes senior tight end my surprise on that one does where they decided to go if they had to tight ends essentially in the same area trade brown with a nice plate breaking it up I thought if he would throw it he might throw it in the one-on-ones a DeSean Jackson at the top of the screen crowd is chanting drew with four Maurice crew kick it out of bounds somewhere I don't give him a chance to return this that's just myth no I think I'm convinced by now [Applause] 34 in zip to the left I don't know not enough right hat Joe from the 15 bounces outside still on his feet as he takes a wallet 39 yards on the kick call it 11 on the return first down in ten from his own 25-yard line incomplete lieutenant from Marseille DS Lewis tried to short hop it he's saying he got it and that's kind of a model thinking Hana Damien huge right there with him working inside the zone of cow trying to get the mitts underneath let's take a look from the back side good call by the official yeah I think it's a good call because I thought I saw a ball hit turf per second down remember drew Olson led him back last week against Washington late to get the victory and he pulled off here let's see 25 to do ocean getting pressure from the backside [Music] [Applause] and ever had the big pitch last week look at ever going up between two cows they're defenders and taking the football took it from Harrison Smith number 11 Tim Mixon number 22 they're falling the way and effort comes back and seizes the football get a big 39 yard threw a catch and run help bring them back against Washington last week this one was 38 yards UCLA now first and ten on the 37 Olson complete inside 213 down to the 28 yard line again it's a sophomore from West Hills California UCLA is called the timeout with 1:45 to play the ball game down by just five and they have a second down and one from the 28 yard line [Music] [Applause] listen out of the flap off the fingertips of everything right at Phenix putting some pressure on drew Wilson in the last week because they had a young quarterback that cow was facing in Richard Colville check of Arizona Alanna rushing three dropping here and trying confused pass lanes as we see the numbers pick up for Olson here in the second half at one point he was two for seven I think in this situation they're going to rely on the confidence of the corners to cover and try and he listen up a little bit more they don't want to have a lot of time to fly as they roll away from the pressure dumps it off on a plateau Maurice trunk [Applause] call this game a measurement game but what a great call by Carl Durrell and Tom Cable the offensive coordinator they show it stacked tight formation to help pick up the Blitz expected blitz from what from Cal and then snuck Maurice drew out of the backfield with no one to cap to account for him and he outruns desmond bishop the middle linebacker he can't get over and cover him there and bangs his way into the endzone for the go-ahead score UCLA calls timeout because they're getting ready to set up for a two-point conversion opportunity only up one they wanted to make up make it a field goal to tie not to beat them so we talked about we have two people we have to control more Eastern and Marseille DS Lewis they've done one but they have not been able to control the other if your files are although do you go for two yeah you have to know because you got to send up where a field goal can't I you look at Millie's through 2097 all-purpose yards whether you go to the football here to try and get to that's my savings wills too tight in going in motion our teams in the backfield also gets here and drive great job either defense shooting right up the middle Olsen never had a chance Zack Follette coming up from that linebackers bound the freshman just shoots the gap right in the middle no one blocked him at all and he made a big play obviously freshman linebacker a true freshman he and Anthony Felder another true freshman are roommates and expect to see them as great players for Cal for the next three years after this one and now he what he's done is set it up for his offense to have a chance for a field goal to win the game daddy that helps with the play calling for Jeff Tedford we're in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena California where number nine California has just given up the lead to number 16 UCLA by one that they have a minute and 35 to work with Cal has two timeouts left the junior transfer Joe au does the quarterback biggest crowd he ever played in front o and remember they're not necessarily in a flow every down situation with the two timeouts and remember the clock stops on first downs in the college game complete up to the 25-yard line penalty flag comes flying in as Craig Stevens makes the reception box tops with 128 [Applause] my offensive pass interference number 82 thunders and forth happiness is the goal from the previous spot still first down tough night for the tight ends for Cal they're vegan cost him a touchdown with a little noisy noise now Craig Stevens pushing off passing offense on to get into a rout twelve straight regular season games Cal has one third best behind USC in Virginia Tech it's on the line tonight in UCLA just three down linemen everyone else spread deep trying to cover pass lanes the 22 that's a boy in front of him get all the defensive backs and linebackers in they even ran zone you know not his own which they took Justin Hickman number 17 the defensive end and dropped him off into coverage and what a payoff for Larry curves defensive troops Trey brown this balls back from his corner position reads the eyes of the quarterback and falls back from his cover to where he's playing short zone fell back in for the interception that puts UCLA in great position at one second to go on the ball game if the home of the first over a rank of Pawlik CC 2003 there under a minute away from getting their second Jeff Tedford team has put up over five hundred and forty-five yards office Carl Darrell squad 388 but it's been special teams and the play of maurice drew that has helped Carl Darrell hit the lead here with 55 seconds left that's the man right there he put this entire broom team on his back and he's carried him you know we've talked to Carl Darrell in July spent some time with them and the first thing he said to us was my team's going to be good people are riding us off you don't understand this team is good he has changed as a head coach nobody believed him that this team was going to be better he said we're gonna find out who we are against Cal I think he may have found out that this team's got a lot of courage that people haven't given him credit for that started forgetting that the Oklahoma game being a ranked opponent for the first time since about 2003 there's marque that's right they just want the clock to go timeouts going to be called again it has been the big place in the second half though that have led to brewing about Maurice tree on the punt return he says goodbye to the putter Loney and the fake punt page and then the last touchdown these campers in and then straight Brown coming over the intersection [Applause] just an outstanding effort on both sides of the football from UCLA [Applause] don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves because if Jets at Washington State next week this UCLA team been home to Oregon State say what 90s Stanford at Arizona then they got to play Arizona State I mean if you look at things right now right jumping ahead of ourselves but right now they would be favored in their next game short and third down and goal from the four did go to fourth down but cows out of timeouts here's what they had look if you're thinking right now you're going to say they'll be favored here here here and here as things stand at this moment obviously lot can change between now and then due to injuries but right now you would say they've got a heck of a chance to get to nine a note before finishing Arizona State USC Watley there's about a five-second difference between the play clock on the overall farm she is going to wait for the last boss in a second and he does with one to snap it they took a timeout there they're going to talk about it all right if you UCLA here with six seconds to go you can't get cute all right don't don't you know try and run around a lot and possibly lose the football at 50 you know tie me up it's gonna be one of those plays where I would take my chances with cow if the ball stopped before the clock runs out trying to throw a Hail Mary from back here really I wouldn't I wouldn't throw it back the toys my goal why dairy and run around like crazy because if I dropped the ball or something crazy it could pick it up this is you know this is one of those ones here where I told my defense I'm gonna take my chances with you here I'll run it straight ahead ball security maybe even kneel down but you might have to finish it for me we talked about their success in the redzone [Applause] and guess who and the clock has zeroes a fitting ending Maurice true-self Carl Darrell's team remain undefeated they go to five and old this craig sager with the star of the game I'll tell you what nobody can tackle Maurice blue except his coach Eric the enemy why not talk about your game here tonight the line did a great job blocking and the run game was going and we were able to get something in the pass game and we came out with a victus all he wanted were you surprised and they kept punting to you I mean I don't know I just I just go back then the guys do great down the block and I just run that's all I have to do bill to run returns I had no one was there so this is all ready for me go ahead touchdown would set up on that fake punt on fourth in to Jared page picked up that big game a lot of people here were booing they didn't want you to go ahead what the ball tell us about that play we didn't even know until we saw the place so close tonight or close early a great call and I guess they were looking for it and Gerry simply running back in high school cuz I played against him so I knew don't get the birds down and maybe a little bit more any good couple mediocre seasons last couple of years for UCLA your coach said you guys are tired of it five and old tell us how that feels right now all feels great right now you know to go out there and celebrate we beat a great Cal team of cows a great team of stuff our fight we don't go out and you'll celebrate in the next week when I get ready for Washington State you deserve it tonight graduate you thank you alright what an outstanding job by Marshawn Lynch but his team comes up on the short end because Maurice true is outstanding you've been watching TBS Saturday night college football presented by orbits we'll be back next Saturday at 7 o'clock Eastern when the Sooners take on the Jayhawks at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City for Charles Davis Craig Sager and our entire crew I'm Ron foulon saying good night from Pasadena California final score again UCLA wins it 47 a 40
