Thoughts:
This finish is still my favorite Talladega finish. The wicker bill had some amazing races.
The buildup over the final 15 laps is nuts. There was no way they were all gonna make it to the line when they were going so hard
Earnhardt+DEI plate cars was a fucking real life Cheat Code. Him and DEI were just on a different level
Also, it was cool to see guys slingshot and make those moves without as much help. Now you can't dart to the front like that without having a few cars in line helping
Beswick's call during the final 10 laps was outstanding. He could basically paint pictures with his words
Watched it live on TV...
Wouldnt be like this today.
An absolute thriller. I hope the younger people on this sub take the time to watch the last 10 laps of this race. You won't regret it.
Stewart's crossover on Junior at 2:27:40 is such a great move.
wicked block by Jr on tony with 2 to go! Forgot how good Jr was back then.. ahhh the good ol' days.
How the frick did Bobby get out of his upside-down car that fast?!
Tony's and Bobby's Coca-Cola Polar Bear paint schemes are two of my all-time favorites. They were very strong, unfortunately Bobby's race ended with him on his roof, and Junior had inside position on Tony getting into turn three. Definitely one of the wilder races I remember watching back then. Andy Petree's 55 car was once again was up front at Talladega after pushing Senior to his last win the year before and winning Dega that spring. The only non-top 10 the 55 had at a plate track in 2001 was the Pepsi 400.
Watching Bobby sliding down the backstretch on his lid is still scary to this day.
i remember watching this live. Screamed when Labonte flipped. Legendary race.
