if you thought being a student was hard he's trying to send data for hunger she's not one bra try being a teacher it's obscene you just have a problem with the female body young lady the female body Harvey look L came three of the World Series it's coming up next on Fox [Applause] [Music] my [Music] [Music] Oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] blue morning your eyes [Music] - we help [Music] and straight seriously injure russified straight it's your money [Music] Roger Clemens has been fined $50,000 for quote inappropriate conduct during Game two of the World Series guess what something about a bat the most bittersweet of songs about Gotham concludes will trip the light fantastic on the sidewalks of New York so far it's been the behavior and enthusiasm of the fans that's been fantastic the Mets who've been on the sidewalk and the Yankees have enjoyed the trip feeding in sidewalks the guys work even cleaner here a tribute from the New York City Department of Sanitation which John Franco's late father worked my late grandfather worked for the department of water in the Department of World Series presidents semester - at a 1986 they lost the first two to the Red Sox at home and then 1/4 of the next 5 mm Mets hope to do the same as me and Mamie O'Rourke transferred Queensboro Plaza to get the big blue ashtray on the sidewalks I'm Jay Stadium in New York it's Game three of the 2000 World Series with Joe Buck Tim McCarver and Bob Brenly standing by for the play-by-play alongside Steve Lyons I'm Keith Olbermann Roger Clemens the Yankee pitcher has been fined $50,000 by Major League Baseball for the incident Sunday in which he threw part of mark Mike Piazza spat back in his general direction at Piazza randomly first base line frank robinson the vice president of on-field operations would not confirm the figure but he did confirm there wasn't fine and he confirmed it was an excess of $10,000 he said it did not imply that Roger Clemens meant to hurt or hit or scare Mike Piazza or even that he knew what he was doing at the time it happened Howard quoting Frank intent is not the important thing what was the act itself from 2001 I considered a little bit of everything really but I mean I did not looked at it and the suspension was certainly one of the avenues I could have taken but I didn't think it was necessary to suspend the World Series now some of the reactions Don fear the head of the Players Association talk to me about an hour ago and said he had no reaction and there was no news of an appeal because he hasn't received the paperwork yet on the fifty thousand dollar fine George Steinbrenner of the Yankees the owner told me that he was here just to watch the game when I have no comment and Joe Torre Yankee manager said literally no comment Sunday night he had plenty of comments he was afraid he said of the impact on the fans here of the incendiary nature of the New York newspapers that they might lose control the fans that was the way we saw fans lose it in Boston a year ago and even though I'm a native New Yorkers Steve I for one agree with Joe there's some risk well I totally disagree with the fan issue at all because the fans in game wanted to have been unbelievable here we've seen great baseball we think great fan reaction we've seen lousy media reaction we are to blame for continuing this ridiculous conversation basically nothing happened a $50,000 fine for what what Robin Ventura takes a bat loses the handle swings it throws it into the seats is he going to get fined $50,000 half the people in the stadium don't make $50,000 a year I got to tell you I'm 4-1 sick of talking about this incident I'd like to talk about World Series baseball and I'm darn sure that Mike Piazza feels the same way back Yatta has every right to be upset he had to come to hit four times the game when he conducts himself differently I think so bizarre I mean ill can you say I mean it was it was probably the ultimate damned if you do damned if you don't sort of situation because we've expressed our displeasure with Roger Clemens myself personally in our ballclub we went out to obviously we could be very selfish and tried to be aggressive and people wanted to see that so you know it's written about the fact that maybe someone should yeah popped it that's true may not doing any good you know again as I said if I go out try and hit them someone else try the hitter we gets going out of the games and people right now selfish year will not care about the feeling okay about the World Series and it is a shame the fact this is going to be remembered more than the ballgame II pitch do you deserve an apology for what happened there well to me and apologies only as good as the source so I I don't put credence in the whole the words thing it's so it's so like I said it's ridiculous situation I don't need an apology I really want one so whatever it's like I said would you know chapter two you know coming in later maybe there'll be another one I don't know but but right now we just got to concentrate on on trying to play baseball these guys don't like each other very much so apology won't mean anything but apology would go a long way for Roger Clemens in his public image if you don't intend to hurt somebody or if you do intend to hurt somebody with something you do then you don't apologize for it you meant to do it but if you do something that you didn't mean to do when something bad come to that then you say you're sorry for Roger would do himself well to apologize but he's not going to do it it never hurts to apologize one thing a couple of the guys who work with the Mets and I want to identify them any more clearly than that told me last night that the Clemens overreaction was kind of a blessing in disguise because it buried the real story why their manager didn't pinch-hit for Kurt Abbott down a run with two out in the ninth on Sunday four quick pieces of baseball news any speculation he might retire Cal Ripken says he'll return for at least one more season with the Orioles in Texas all-time no-hit king Nolan Ryan is in the hospital again chest pains but not a heart attack he had a bypass earlier this a source close to the situation tells Foxsports that veteran announcer former catcher buck Martinez will be offered the job managing the Blue Jays the Toronto Sun reported Martinez interviewed for that job today and the Pirates have hired hitting coach Lloyd McClendon his manager he becomes the first african-american to be promoted by the same team from coach to skipper since cito Gaston with the Blue Jays in 1989 we'll take a break now more of the memories of Subway Series pass it's Phil Rizzuto on 1955 the year that spoiled his unbeaten record in the classic we were so used to winning we wanted the things the Navy Yankees a great thing but they got the taste of winning which other clubs hadn't had any was we winning almost every year the world you get in the World Series and winning and the Dodgers had not tasted when they beat us like but I did go over and we man enough to go over to their locker room and congratulating but P we would always thanks to the cadets from the United States Military Academy at West Point for the presentation of tonight's colors throwing out the ceremonial first ball tonight to Vance Wilson is Lisa Fernandes pitching star of the US a gold medal softball team [Applause] lisa is your pitch [Music] a company we serve is a Hall of Fame manager who led the 2000 us to look at baseball team to a gold medal in stood me here to draw out the first ball to Mike Piazza it's Bobby Lasorda Tommy it's you [Applause] so Mike Piazza Tommy Lasorda come together kiss a hog a wish of luck Tommy Lasorda the manager one for penance - World Series all to victory by the US Olympic baseball team his biggest moment and his baseball life we will have Game three of this 2000 World Series for you in a moment when we come back Bob Brenly and Tim McCarver will join me we'll set up tonight's game that in just a moment thank you the 2000 World Series continues tonight pain three different boroughs in Queens take a different train to get here the number seven train get off at the Willett point exit you're in a stadium and tonight your witness games free welcome I'm Joe Buck Tim McCarver and Bob Brenly in just a moment well it's stating the obvious to say that the New York Mets tonight behind Rick Reed will try to avoid falling into a three nothing hole in this series no team has ever been able to come back with that deficit to win a best-of-seven series in postseason history and then on the other side for the Yankees what's been lost and everything that happened in Game two when the Roger Clemens might be out the incident is that the Yankees now bond fourteen consecutive World Series games they are halfway to a sweep again if they sweep this world series will be three consecutive world series sweeps and that's never happened in the history of major league baseball for a guy to help us with the things that are less than obvious Tim McCarver and Jim here are the Mets happy to be back at shed yeah gel domestic 155 regular season games in this ballpark go out of five in the postseason obviously they're a very good ballclub but their crowd is loud raucous and do they ever move you as a matter of fact when the Cardinals clinched when the Mets clinched against the Cardinals eight days ago I've done about 1,300 games in this booth and I have never felt it moved like it did that night literally well Orlando Hernandez being moved I don't think so keep in mind that almost three years ago this guy came across from Cuba defecting came across on a raft a boat something that floats and intimidation is one word he hasn't learned English dictionary well on the mound Orlando Hernandez in trying to get it started for the Mets and trying to jumpstart this offense as Timo Perez for them you know Joe throughout the first two rounds of this year's postseason the big question was who the heck is Timo Perez a better question in this world series might be where is Timo Perez after being a thorn in the side of the Giants in the division series the Cardinals in the LCS Timo Perez has been nullified his effect has been nullified at the top of that Mets order by Yankee pitching and defense a lot of that credit has to go to vice-president of major-league scouting jean-michel had four Scouts with him at that NLCS apparently they've spotted some weaknesses in Perez his game and they've been able to exploit him well it is Game three here tonight at Shea Stadium and these Mets hope and these Mets fans hope that things will indeed turn around in a New York minute the Subway Series continues again different train different borough same World Series it's Game three and it's yours next on five [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] welcome back to che well an interesting moment and interesting dialogue just occurred down in the Mets dugout John Stearns is the bench coach for the Mets he was talking to Mike Piazza about one of the pieces of the shattered bat from Game two and where it ended up is John Stehr he's they alert a father I know that somebody put it on the label John Hillary partner here on Henry owner in a car and ever I talked about that talked his partner you want to want to get a fourth is going well I think we've got a jumper yet come right up here just harness give the little chairs whatever you might have so nice gesture if that does indeed happen Mike Piazza will auction it off there's the news item and here is Rick Reed digging at that pitching rubber as these Mets take the field down two games to Don to the world champion Yankee starting on this York Yankees brought to you by Coors Light they waited on with Jose Vizcaino who would have thought this guy you know off June 21st in the Dodgers he would be so involved in the 2000 World Series he leads off at second Derek Jeter batting second at Short David Justice hitting third then it's Bernie Williams Tino Martinez and Jorge Posada in the middle Paul O'Neill's in right Scott Brosius 15 in Orlando El Duque Hernandez Michigan that ignite the defense for the New York Mets no surprises here back the same defensive alignment as they had in Game two - was particularly ugly defensively for the Mets with their three errors and on the mound is the right-hander who was admittedly nervous prior to his game restart the national championship series here at Shea against st. Louis Rick Reed is admittedly nervous before every regular season start and as you said Joe during the LCS look how much he feel right now 11 and 5 on the year the Mets were 20 and 9 and being started by Reed he learned his two seam fastball interestingly from Greg Maddux when the 1996 World Series was televised the shots of Greg Maddux in the glove and he has just finished a season at door fault when he was 8 and 10 for Bobby Valentine a triple-a affiliate of the Met pitch for Bobby that year and not a good record but he said I need another fish and he learned that other pitch during the 1996 series 8 and 10 that year at DARPA where's Orlando Hernandez and over hashanah Hamilton and broadcast also available in Spanish by utilizing the si P button on your television well away we go josè vista you know used to call Shea Stadium home for a short while in his career he's bounced around and he has landed firmly on his feet in a Yankee uniform made the start in each of these three games of this 2000 World Series and a strike on the outside corner to start Game three Knobloch is on the bench originally the plan was for Knobloch to play second base he hasn't played defensively in about three weeks Joe Torre thought it would be unfair to throw him back out there defensively with all of his struggles this season in last Jeff Kellogg the home plate umpire the rest of his crew is this crowd gets into it for a note to bit [Applause] Rick read everything is off the fastball and with two strikes on a left-handed batter you will see this all night from that centerfield camera that tailing fastball at Rep Sanders give up on it's a late little pair on it still owing to [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so it's Vizcaino than Jeter than justice the Yankees jumped on top in Game two with two in the first and one in the second never trailed one at 6'5 or two to this guy you know here the rifle Paris [Applause] and perform particular community there's Jeter [Music] [Applause] numbers for the postseason in this world series four out of nine [Music] [Applause] peter has hit an 11 executive World Series games [Applause] Gregg one runaway train well that's one way to put it 14 consecutive World Series victories which is an all-time major league baseball record seven straight World Series wins on the road their last loss in 1981 and the Dodgers series Lando Hernandez ain't no in his career in the postseason there's the hitting streak fruit eater Hernandez on the mound tonight through the Yankee oh and two on Peter you notice that rip read it's not necessarily a lowball pitcher as a matter of fact neither starter tonight Hernandez or read a guide to get a lot of ground balls mixing everything off the fastball both pitchers have to be very fine on the inside corner and the outside corner [Applause] do I [Music] and he was on this fix tonight on the corner at the same sticker you talked about him that starts inside to the left he tails back over the inside corner same effect on a right-handed hitter the pitch appears to be off the plate good late movement right over the outside corner now David Justice three home runs in this postseason 11 RBIs so far in this world series one for seven [Applause] just as standing in the way of a perfect first-inning for Rick Reed working on nine days rest for one Vaness type picture is read as you're talking about it sometimes the worry is with someone in that category as opposed to a Roger Clement it seems to get recharged with extra rest the arm is too fresh stuff isn't as good one ball one strike [Applause] I said if you wearing a color other than blue here at Shea Stadium they are packed in [Applause] one ball one strike two out opening on justice takes ball two [Music] Bernie Williams on deck for the Yankees we did not face the Yankees this year on to a lifetime with an ER a of over five [Applause] marine one you can see before that pitch the active put down a sign and Rick read white one on the left side of his uniform usually that's adding one to whatever Piazza put down the bad thing for picture to get in the habit up because usually at the whites it's going to be something other than a fastball a two-out walk the outside corner a two-out walk to justice and his first getting will continue the morning Bernie Williams who was just putting on a display during batting practice it was I papa [Music] [Applause] pounding one ball after another over the wall here @j and hitting one off the big scoreboard out in right-center field halfway up the billboard [Applause] on the right side of that scoreboard so here he stands batting in the first inning a two-out walk to justice and a strike on the outside corner from Ruiz [Music] mention it the Mets during the regular season 155 game here at Shea Stadium the best record in baseball [Applause] [Music] [Applause] one ball one strike that's where 55 and 25 at this ballpark in San Francisco Giants when 55 and 26 the reason for the disparity one of the home games in that play is in Japan earth game of the season [Applause] jeka jumped us over at first [Music] [Applause] strike two on Bernie Williams and again this crowd well as a product help their mess get through a scoreless first day here's the to strike situation and burning Williams in the Yankees well aware that wreath tries to run that fat fall inside with two strikes here he come it was just time to count two and two see where Piazza set up Rick Reed and Piazza wanted that pitch I guess it was called because it was too high Wow very very close two balls two strikes Roderick's first with two outs now full count injustice will take off overs birthday we talked about it the other night that to to pitch with two outs and a runner on first base is a very important fish because the runner is not running to - but he's compelled to with the count 3 & 2 that's like Todd deal is planned behind they've adjusted to Kurt all right Williams looking for his first hit of this world series that place [Music] [Applause] Justin run strike three hailing fence [Applause] the arms of Bernie Williams went up and now he'll head out to the field one happening at Shea no score hello I'm Charles Gaines when I found out that Expo communications had customer service Oh [Music] we have a great game wrong it's open from 6 to 9 but people can pretty much use it whenever they want and this is one of our rooms as you can see all of them have a nice view over the courtyard is your father staying with you now so this is home then I just want to make sure he's well looked after I mean this could be his last move night only do it out there a little chilly get ready to rock hit me daddy's in there ooh bamberd awesome season premiere with the rules from the November 5th spot Orlando Hernandez is making his 11th postseason start in his career the gang even won his first ten take a look at the starting lineups events brought to you by Coors Light evil ferry's leads off in right field Edgardo Alfonzo batting 2nd at 2nd Mike Piazza hits 3rd he's the catcher with Robin Ventura cleaning up Todd Zeile as a seven-game hitting streak alive in his postseason as Ayane and left Jay Payton and center mike boorda get shorten prickly pitching and batting ninth the defense for the Yankees say more justice Williams O'Neill in the outfield with Brosius Jeter Vizcaino again at Tino Martinez at first Jorge Posada catching El Duque 12 and 13 his worst of his three years with the Yankees and similar to Rick Reed but even more pronounced he gets a lot of fly balls that's why he gave up 34 home runs on the year third most home runs given up in the American League Timo Perez I'm friendly talking about what he has done or hasn't done of his World Series one out of ten so far any thanks ball one you know Joe in his defense when he was called up from Norfolk on August 30th from that point to the end of the regular season he had 49 at-bats he's had 50 at-bats this year in the postseason where he's still learning [Applause] one ball one strike take a look at what's gone on in the first inning in this postseason at least the last two rounds in the national championship series the five games that scored 12 runs so far in the first two games 1 2 3 1 2 3 I've gone in order in games one and two and now Peres is in the hole at a 1 ball 2 strike count to Pat falls in a curve ball they want parents to hit the ball in the air Alphonso on deck that's in the air and out of play left side that's the type of swing they're trying to force with Parris he's not a power hitter hit one home run in September that was an inside-the-park home run so you'll see a lot of fastball up in the strike zone on team apparel advances a team in this postseason hitting only 234 [Applause] but there have been a lot of players like Timo Perez in the big leagues and it's a very simple scouting report pitch him away flame away throw the ball up and out over the plate let him into the big part of the ballpark he doesn't have enough opposite field power to hurt you two left Paris is gone and Oh leadoff home run in this game 3 for the Mets which they had done in each of the previous World Series in their team history you get the idea with Hernandez missing with the fastball and after the curveball watching off the ladder upstairs got him on the high fastball [Applause] now one out of eleven and Edgardo Alfonzo back strike one the guys talked about it during the pregame at Orlando Hernandez had trouble with that pitching elbow back during this season Hernandez at two four-game losing streaks he was on the disabled list tightness in his elbow and his upper back and inflammation in that elbow but umpire Jeff Kellogg telling each bench disease pitcher is allowed to fall into his pitching hand while on the mound it's a chilly not cold by any means good day Alfonso's late it's going to [Applause] after Alfonso its Piazza Oh store bottom the first and the o2 one or two different look they're from El Duque is he drop-down sidearm on Alfonzo at high leg kick and then dropping down he has many many different deliveries very very difficult to pick up does it again in this time Alfonso goes after it back-to-back strikeouts first two are gone and Piazza wons [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] lemons on the top step 2 the Yankees dugout getting a good look at Piazza facing Hernandez ball 1 we out to two hits in this world series a single then was picked off caught stealing whatever you want to call it in Game one in Game two two nights ago a ninth-inning two run home run off the bear pole or foul pole whatever you want to call it either one against Nelson of a ninth Mets going five runs in the top of the ninth the other night Yankee squeaking by with a 6-5 win on the outside corner ball a strike [Applause] [Music] [Applause] bases empty two out we ought to chase boy up and out of the strike zone one two good lowball hitter Hernandez went up the ladder on Paris and again on Piazza [Applause] [Music] [Applause] El Duque struck out the side in the bottom of the first taras Alfonzo Piazza after a salad starts by ripping to the top of his first inning Game three [Music] El Duque did his day after one no score town where people work just once a week and all the locals know your name baby where you go you know this town is called nfl.com and you can be there with the new smart Visa cards with remarkable chip technology because with visa you can buy anything from nfl.com where they don't take American Express not even blue no two eyes see the same world no two businesses are identical one company creates internet solutions you need to need Fujitsu the possibilities are infinite [Music] [Applause] Rick read back to work second inning no score will be Tino Martinez Jorge Posada Paul O'Neill strike one [Applause] Martinez a 258 hitter during the regular season five out of 11 in this world series and hitting 382 in postseason or to [Applause] [Music] Tino Martinez one of the few left-handed hitters who's a highball hitter going after the high fastball from read most left-handers who lowball hitters one out third strikeout for Eve [Applause] [Music] the sequence was the curveball and then two high fastball but as we said earlier Rick Reed is working the inside part of the plate the left-handed batters once he gets ahead so Martinez with a scouting report over in the Yankee dugout is Jorge Posada digs in only a few 27 hitter during this postseason 3 out of 8 in the World Series [Music] and gone deep during the month of October hit 28 home runs during the regular season so we were talking about it before the game Jorge Posada in my view is the biggest threat the Yankee lineup against a guy like Rick Reed Ruiz is not throw hard but start of a very very good changeup hitter and a fastball hitter that's an odd combination does not handle the breaking ball well that was the change-up right there from Murray something straight though he hits very very hard read with a count one ball one strike straightens up the SATA 2 & 1 one thing the Yankees offensively have done well throughout this World Series is going the opposite way especially when they're behind in the count they have to do the same thing against brick read in the ballgame tonight because as you mentioned in the scouting before he's an east/west guy in and out going to the reason that it's important to go the other way when you're ahead in the count is because that's where the picture is going to work outside rarely will a picture try to jam you when he's behind back-to-back strikeouts in four on the night already for Rick Reed that'll bring in Paul O'Neill we've already touched on the relationship between Joe Torre and his right fielder here's more from the Yankee skipper Paul O'Neill George Steinbrenner characterized them a few years ago the warrior and I I think if there was ever a perfect word for him to just to describe him that was it not healthy bothered by a sore right hip couple of cortisone injections late in the year to try to relieve some of the pain and pressure but not running well not hitting the ball with really much authority or much pop he has not gone deep in this postseason we talked about it in Game one since September 3rd including the postseason he said only one home run that's down the left-field line flanking for the car over the wall a ground rule double and the Yankees have the game's first hit in the last two games Paul O'Neill has as many extra-base hit as he had in the previous 31 games [Applause] first runner in scoring position or either Club and that's what Bob was talking about going the other way when you're behind in the count and Reed throwing that fastball away and that's all Paul O'Neill did I wrote down on that field line now it's Brosius [Applause] a career 410 hitter during World Series play Reed gets the outside corner I think it's got is to get a hit and mystic that it's going to be it's going to have to be something away with the pitcher on deck you can mine Orlando Hernandez has only hit 19 times in three years [Applause] a way away one goal one strength Oh roches sixty four RBIs during the regular season trying to put the Yankees on top here in the 2nd O'Neill at second two out on the outside corner again according to [Applause] that was a mistake right there with a runaround in second dates a lot of times the catcher doesn't want to set up too early what he did he moved inside and then he moved outside he moved inside first and then he set up outside [Applause] [Music] broseph set up with a ball and two strikes now Ray's strike them to die [Applause] [Music] [Applause] it's a missus the weather has just been ideal so far in this 2000 World Series and up above is the bud one airship five million so it's ongoing goodwill tour Budweiser the official beer of Major League Baseball and the World Series will it add his name to the list the ever-growing list stars and starlets that have been on display during this world series ventura hit point into right [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] honestly with [Music] Robin Ventura went up there looking for a fastball away he got it and remember we talked about a landowner nandus 30 for a home run hit against El Duque this season the third most in the American League now Zeile takes a strike high and out over the plate you can see Posada setting up if you don't get pitch you get location and Robin Ventura guessed right [Applause] Zeile tried to hold up and go into the best bench when that ball left the park reaction from Hernandez used to that is convention to the 34 home runs during the regular season that he allowed while on the bow [Applause] we're 224 last year last year was his first full year in the big league 11 year before one ball two strikes on deal only the great Pedro Martinez of the Red Sox held right-handed batters to a lower average than Hernandez but lefty has trouble with they appeal and still held up reporting the first base umpire Tim welke - and - and that's one of the reasons [Applause] at left-handers giving trouble he can't do that the left-handed hitters he can't drop down to them as he does the right-handers and make that left side give a little look like steal caught a break on a check swing two balls two strikes he'll who struggled at the end of the season hit only 195 weeks the regular season with 1 out of 14 in the division series but hit 368 in the LCS with 8 RBIs 4 out of 9 in this world series and he's narrowly missed to hold on till 2 & 2 what do they look like Game one off the top the wall the end of the play people Peres thrown out at the plate then a game to play Bellinger on the other end of his drive [Applause] [Music] top of the wall bases empty here nobody out of run in for the Mets and a home run by Ventura that's down two games to done he'd wanted up it pink one out [Applause] four strikeouts down for El Duque dropping down fastball outside corner right there in Lihue mobile today when he drops down that front side of the right-handed batter has a tendency to give a little bit just enough to get it man [Music] here's not Bionic we sat in manager Bobby Valentine's office prior to the game brought the question up about at least toying with the idea of inserting another left-handed batter in the lineup a guy like Daryl Hamilton who could play the outfield because of what we're seeing Orlando Hernandez and how he disposes of right-handed batters one of the two lefties that Hernandez his face in this game just homered off him Robin Ventura with Bobby Valentine straightened up in his chair behind his desk and said why no why why would I pick that not going to take bending out by on'y out of the lineup [Applause] one ball two strikes it had been talking about in the papers here it's those who were assigned to write articles on things other than the Clemens Piazza situation but it didn't happen same lineup for the Mets on by Ani three out of eight in this world series you mentioned to show that Bernie Williams put on in batting practice for the Yankee today I coyote doing pretty much the same thing for the Mets granted that was three hours before game time against John Stearns buttock bayan he's looking to buy well early today two balls two strikes [Applause] during the regular season left-handed batters at 280 against Hernandez right-handers 210 bit of the reverse in the postseason but a much larger study during the regular year when Hernandez through 195 at 2/3 innings outside corner as a fifth strikeout for Hernandez he told you before the game in our scouting report that quote pitcher lived east and west it's kind of East Side West Side all around the place both Reed and Hernandez have been dominating the left side of the plate the left corner of the plate read the left-hander's Hernandez two right-handers that last pitch the far east but three or four inches off the corner two out nobody on it Payton stands in and makes a strike two out an eye to this World Series 178 overall in the postseason 4j 27 year old rookie with 17 home runs during the regular season leadoff home run by Ventura zeal struck out not by a nice truck one one count on fake two events that a short-lived lead in Game one when they got three run to the top of the seventh the Yankees tied the game in the bottom of the ninth and wanted the 12 of the hit by this guy you know Yankees led throughout in Game two that's made it close to the ninth inning but lost 65 they stays alive and here in the second event with an early lead first time they've been able to do that in this serie and one to nothing on the home run by Ventura [Music] [Applause] [Music] Lando Hernandez has recorded five outs all five strikeout he has payton set up J doing a good job of spoiling the last two pitches one thing you do with Orlando Hernandez if you get runners on base you take away his high leg kick the high leg kicks are truly remarkable a higher leg kick than anybody in the major league he's talking to post honor right there in Spanish where's Jay Payton born in Zanesville Ohio I did not believe Jay picks up on Spanish the one-two they able to lay off two balls two strikes what's that bridge Ohio again there but with the y-shaped bridge in Zanesville Ohio the bridge actually goes across the busting up river and splits and go right as you can go up I believe it's the only one in the country that's not it that's not it two balls two strikes baton trying to keep the second inning alive for the bench cannot Hernandez has struck out six but leading off the second inning for the vets giving them an early lead for the first time in this 2000 World Series Robin Ventura he goes to one six years back after this from your local Fox station during the regular season Orlando Hernandez was Oprah dying at the plate during interleague play one sacrifice bunt seven strikeouts and in his career an old 53 hitter [Music] and it's quickly on - from Rick Reed already eleven strikeouts combined between these two you don't expect that out of read that makes 12 6 on each side as Reid takes care of his counterpart El Duque one out here in the third inning there have been 13 outs recorded 12 strikeouts the only ball put in play for an out was Jose this guy a nose fly ball the Paris of the first inning pitchers have thrown a lot of air ball tonight here is Vizcaino Joe Torre came into this world series with options at second base I would think it's fair to say that Vizcaino was probably option number three except for vizcaino's success in his history against Al Leiter the game one starter 10 out of 19 career going into that game and then Vizcaino took advantage of that start by getting four hits including singles in his last three at-bats in the night the 11th or the 12th and drove in the game-winner in the bottom of the 12th the bases loaded two out two balls and strike now you don't want to check swing on a 200 count that's good news for Rick Reed good news for the Met if it falls moving this much when an experienced hitter has a check swing on a soooo pitch that's good news for Mets fans you can understand the swing like gavel count Owen - but not suing nothing now the two one two balls two strikes had that shot at Joe Torre in the dugout for the Yankees we get a chance to visit with each manager prior to the game and just sitting in Joe Torre's office you can see it on his face with his body language they asked her the question he was having any fun and he said no this isn't fun breaking ball jumped in short for bordick got to go and the reason that's the case with Joe Torre not having fun is everything that went on in Game two there's a smile from the former vet player and player manager and then manager this is the time it's the most fun that's true tolda says it the only time I'm really having a good time in this series it's been a guy that's always been critical interleague play and especially interleague play here in New York because of all the hype that surrounds the Yankees and that's getting together but this World Series and the extracurricular activity worn him down Jeter hit the sinking line drive into left by Ghani a good way to cry it off and hold Jeter to a single a two-out single here the third in it fine play by Agbayani in left-center field a high breaking ball to Jeter second hit for the Yankees the other double by Paul O'Neill both have been two-out hit nice play nice pivot by Agbayani if an outfielder gets to the ball and throws it into second base it doesn't necessarily have to be a good throw the fact that he's there and gets rid of it quickly we'll stop the runner either making a wide turn excuse me Bob you could clearly see Jeter had to lower his eyes just for a moment to pick up the base and in that time the ball was in the air when he turns the corner at first base he feeds the ball in the air has no choice with hit the brakes here's justice who walked his first on utter at first and cheated on the truck running situation right here rip breed does not have a quick move home but he has quick feet and a good move to first base with feet with Grover and Jeter back in time Derek Jeter now with that 12 game hitting streak in World Series play he has reached base 54 of 59 career postseason game he is automatic as justice takes great one [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Mike Piazza with the worst percentage in the major league throwing out attempted based dealers this season I fully expect Derek Jeter to be on the move here both 22 bases during the regular season ball in the strike a lot of times if a left-handed power hitter is up there and manager or a base runner will allow the power hitter to get to to strike one into then he'll steal [Applause] good pitch in on the hands of justice one running situation right here if Peters thrown out justice leads off the court a high height fastball the go ahead in the count and with that and that we put of course [Music] read aloud a two-out walk to justice in the first got around it by striking out william the two-out double to O'Neill in the second struck out Brosius dead the inning two-out single by Peter here in the third inning [Applause] and a 2 2 count on Justin you could tell how Piazza came out of his props there that he was anticipating Jeter running [Applause] watch how Mike Piazza jumps up at this fall expecting fully expecting Peter to be running nothing doing [Applause] [Music] [Applause] two balls two strikes run at first two out they're those geezers got a great job in justice Pop's it foul back and out of play [Applause] [Music] what a jump you're right Joe I mean three steps [Music] one two three two-and-a-half I'll give great right yeah you separated yeah it's real at 8:00 understandable that Jeter wouldn't run early because as you said earlier Rick breed is not safe thinking that much in regards to how many scouting reports you get you've got to seen yourself from first day Peter running again as justice again fouls it out of play not quite as good a jump as the last pitch but good enough [Applause] [Applause] - in the stolen base department of postseason not running is Justin vintage aircraft first by the game into the corner to cut it off a perimeter around thrown by our funds over the plate too late and if one one of the third one of the more remarkable statistics of the 2000 season excluding stolen bases buff stealing Derek Jeter this year has been tagged out what that Mehcad and third a home and that remains intact Oh [Music] [Applause] day on the base an RBI double for justice in the play at the plate I throw from our Funzone up quote now the go-ahead run at third with two out for Bernie Williams who struck out his first time and takes a strike I David Justice with his 12th RBI of his postseason [Applause] one ball one strike [Applause] Bernie Williams is playing in his 17th World Series game he came in with a career batting average of 133 pair to 386 in his career during LCS play [Music] take strength to with one two is William stands there old for eight in this 2000 World Series 3 continues to exploit the left-handers in that little blind spot for that late tailing fastball a stop that's the pitch or that see action on that fish you give up on it you think it's inside sales over the place here it comes again and Williams gets a piece you folks at home can can tell by Mike Piazza you know it's that pitch to left-handers because you're not going to throw anything off-speed inside the left-handed batter Reed doesn't have a pitch so whenever Piazza moves inside to a left-hander it's that pitch that failing fastball [Applause] William still up there with a one-ball two-strike count and time you can clearly see Piazza calling for the fastball inside and then flipped his thumb up he wanted that fastball up above the hands read put it in a good spot Williams only able to file it off [Applause] Yankees trying to take a third inning leave that's out of play what's the idea pounding a left-handed hitter in with that late tailing fastball it opens up that outside corner tried to go away that time with a sinker to Bernie Williams and many times will get a very defensive swing after a hitter has been counted in on the hands early in the count as I tend to stay alive going back outside with that tailing fastball we didn't able to get a piece [Applause] one two - William canto ends up for the big hop to throw out Bernie Williams and end the top of the third double down the right-field line by David Justice to the twenty six-year-old legs of Derek Jeter carried him around the bases to tie this game 3 in the and since is on my list yeah that's our brother with the kids are listening to and you'll have their posters up in your bedroom join the fan club right or you let me write into that words right one ball no strikes now to and onboarding the number eight hitter was Rick read recent hitting pitcher to follow and then Timo parents against Orlando Hernandez won one game we could swing bordick 2 & 1 now and bordick has had a miserable post season 2 plate 3 out of 28 0 runs batted in [Music] we know you're excited about that sound system here taste it yes I am extra speakers that they brought in two balls in the strike an outboard it gets it in the air - laughs well here back is justice [Music] and a deep sigh of relief from El Duque the pitchers in tonight's game have different ways of delivering the ball look at the high leg kick of El Duque almost past his left shoulder a little tuck and drive Rick Reed on the other hand lifts it to the lower part of the level to another letter both very effective so far but both different ways in getting it home the first thing that strikes you when you stand next to Orlando Hernandez and I recommend it highly if you get the chance of just his legs he has some kind of foundation enormous legs and obviously tremendous elasticity is Rick Reed gets a base hit through the left side ii Mets hit of the night and it belongs to Reed who had 10 hits during the regular season I want advantage the Met tab they have pitched nine hitters in their lineup and the Yankee can a go Fernandez has only been up for 20 times Rick Reed is a very good bat handler if 10 hits this year and 14 sacrifice bunt well apparently Derek Jeter in the Yankees did not feel Rick Reed could pull El Duque because they're Jeter was shaded way up the middle of the field leaving a huge toll on that left side for Reed to dribble that baton through [Applause] now it's Paris say it again it used to be who is Timo Perez [Applause] breaking ball high ball one in this series it's been where is Timo Perez I mean he was in the middle of every offensive ending this event that's had in the division series in the NLCS really gave him a spark at the top of the ordinance they did not have he went throughout the regular season [Applause] [Music] one ball one strike you could have made a strong case repair as being the national championship series most valuable player definitely on the list Mike Hampton got the nod the Peres was vital to the mint exact not only in their lineup but and at the plate but out in right field and another ball in the air off the bat of Beres that could be a ques and others try to do with t-ball and that's two out not to be picking on Timo Perez but it's not unusual for a young player to burst upon the scene have initial success until the scouts get an opportunity to watch him play watch him take a few more at bat watch him make a few outs and see how people go about getting him out and then try to duplicate that look hold your own games struck out on a hot fastball as first at-bat flied out on a high fastball at second effect Edgardo Alfonzo now he struck out in his first at-bat [Music] Mike Piazza next either near the third inning or leading off the fourth leading off the fourth for the Yankees will be Tino Martinez the 1-1 game bottom of inning number three [Applause] and ball one Alfonzo a tough time staying away from that same delivery in his first at-bat against the mansion is career Hernandez pre-start to record a to an O and a tra of 2.05 [Music] one ball one strike and you can trace this postseason dominance on the part of El Duque Orlando Hernandez when the world was more aware of that nicknamed El Duque back in 1998 American League Championship Series the Yankees down two games to one seven shutout innings and only three hits a win over the Indians the Yankees went on to win the World Series that year the Padres involves the strike on Alfonso he was very upset the Yankees was going with a four-man rotation in postseason and the first three pictures pitched in El Duque thought he should have started the opening game in Cleveland but Joe Torre went back to the three-man rotation El Duque started the seventh postseason game and the fourth game in the ALCS and won a huge ball game against Cleveland then the Yankees never looked back leading San Diego four straight neither's he ain't no in his career two balls and strike that's on the outside corner according to Jeff Kellogg in the count 2 & 2 a wide plate will benefit both pitchers or they have been making some pitches on the outside part of the plate or from their vantage point the left side of the plate tonight - 2 - Alfonso go after it nasty fence full count now Rick Reed will get a head start at first against Piazza waits to hit next Alfonzo has a tendency to go to right field with two strikes on a very very guilty strike hitter Rico's and Alfonso with a big rip still three and two he's missed two pitches on this at that foul the both back [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Rico's and Alfonzo pops it up this guy you know wants it we are through three innings here in game three a one-out hit by Reed he is stranded first runner stranded by the bats in after three tied at one [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] the energy behind the New York [Applause] baseball is once locally like you said putting more energy tonight well for little Subway Series inspiration Mets fans need only to go back to 1955 the World Series Brooklyn Dodgers were down no.2 in 1955 to the Yankees the series going to Ebbets Field and if you flash ahead to Game seven Yogi Berra sixth inning drive at Game seven caught in spectacular fashion by sandy Amoros the left-field corner at Yankee Stadium preserved the - nothing shutout curled and authored by Johnny Padres and that was the Brooklyn Dodgers all the world championships Don Zimmer the starting second baseman in that game junior Gilliam Scott in the left field and with them was pinch-hit for in the middle innings Gilliam came in to play second base and sandy Amoros who had the kalapa on the right side was able to make that catch [Music] there's Zim from the fifties [Music] all right local fare Tommy burned the left-hander had started that game that's why simmer which was blank second and then he was relieved by Bob Grimm who the previous year was the Yankees Rookie of the Year Simha was also the fence first third basement right and in those year early years with the vets they brought a lot of superstars from years past in this city back to play for the Mets try to get this franchise up and running it make it a little more popular as Tino Martinez lines one into right field a base hit and a good start to this 4th inning for the Yankees [Applause] Don Zimmer and Joe Torre have a very special relationship and here is Don Zimmer on his working relationship with a God who is right if I make a suggestion and it works he is still the man that has to okay it if I make a suggestion that it doesn't work he's the one who has to answer to the media nobody's perfect but I would say overall in five years we've worked pretty good together there is no questioning that a leadoff single by Tino Martinez and Posada takes ball one low or hang hitting 222 in this postseason struck out his first time up Don Zimmer a guy who had a gun for an arm little pop in his bat but was stuck for years behind peewee Reese I was definitely benefited from free agency if we're part of the game back then them also was deemed when he was in the minor leagues and in 1956 he was being by how Jeffcoat Cincinnati Reds and had to sit out the series that year one ball one strike on Posada [Music] Martinez in first and that's outside to a lawn Yankees put their leadoff man on for the first time tonight here the fourth inning on the hit by Tino Martinez Paul O'Neill next [Music] I will get out of play two balls two strikes [Music] different at same bug and a great guy what a great [Applause] two balls two strikes on Posada one on nobody out Thank You defense 9-1-1 here the fourth inning got him looking strikeout number seven for Rick Reed as we've seen this trick before huh tailing fastball to the moon holy you can look at Piazza some of turning his head around to his right inquiring without saying anything don't play dumb power Jeff Kellogg a little nod of the head we got the call [Music] now Paul O'Neill who doubled down the left-field line his first time up butter it first with one out and for one outside a lot of times you can look at the oculars as a hitter you can see Jay Payton right there shaded toward left-center field for the most part and up into two strikes that gives you an idea that Rick Reed's not going to come inside on you the right-center is where the big hole is way again it's to Oh after O'Neill it's Brosius and after Brosius the pitcher Hernandez [Music] big strikeout for Reid when he took care of Masada falling behind the cap to another Paul O'Neill into right-center field that ball will get down and go to the wall Tino Martinez will cruise around third score headed for third as O'Neill bad hip at all he is safe and overthrow Ventura but the ball stays in play and it's Bluto on Yankees here in the fourth inning the Mets were very very lucky on that overthrow right there Rick Reed without a position and not backing up the play and forcing the way for the myth the ball didn't go on and then if you're shagging a hitter into left-center field as the count progresses more toward the hitter then you've got to go toward right-center field taking this villain and Carl O'Neil devil I'm not saying that Jake could have gotten that ball but he could have perhaps cut it off and prevented Tino Martinez from shortest and Martina scored easily and you're the queen situation right here with Scott Brosius the battle O'Neill at third with one out the infield comes in man Brosius hit on the head Tan wrist forearm some part and Brosius aboard with one out here in the fourth Vinick [Applause] [Music] sailing fastball up and in almost appeared to hit Brosius in the chest as he turned into that ball and once against him you mentioned a possibility of a squeeze possibility of a safety squeeze right here with El Duque coming to the plate that's right Don Zimmer loves to do that hit by pitch has been a part of this World Series to be sure Todd Pratt was plunk twice in Game one [Applause] into Alfonzo had one Greymon later in the game Hampton hit justice Willie Willie Randolph got together with el duque and talked to him and Bobby talked about a safety squeeze watch him square around early and all probability [Applause] and the putt to read Sunil back to third and get the out at first the sacrifice is good one four is down to second goes Brosius that happens to be a perfect bunt the ball gets by Rick Reed Paul O'Neill would have an opportunity to walk home from third base but read a very good fielder bounces off the mound to make the play Yankees with two runners now in scoring position for the top of their order [Applause] so Hernandez gets it down and now with second and third two out it's up to this guy No [Applause] on the outside corner strike one Glendon rush getting loose for the men shot in their bullpen are the mental lineup will bat in the bottom of this fourth day they get back here for this guy you know [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Oh into net defects are the Yankees that their department had fed production from one through eight martinez having a good theory Paul O'Neill driving in the go-ahead run and Scott Brosius with a homerun that trio combining for a 2-14 average the last month of the regular season they have turned it on a postseason and especially here in the World Series second and third two out Mayo tune of is kind of able to lay off it one ball two strikes [Applause] [Music] Yankees with their first lead up tonight do the one here in the fourth inning and a chance for more [Applause] breaking ball grounded foul outside first Paul O'Neill the runner at third is first triple July 23rd of 1999 he is never and its ripple in the postseason but he has won here in the fourth inning the score Tino Martinez roaches hit by pitch a good bunt by Hernandez second and third two out the one to two this guy you know tailing pitch yet again eight strikeouts for Rick Reed and he limits the damage here in the fourth minute group it on Fox first pitch to the bottom of the fourth inning on its way to Mike Piazza about tip-off Posada for strength one will be Piazza Ventura zeal the Yankees have their first lead of the night after an RBI triple hit by O'Neill in the top of the inning the score Tino Martinez [Applause] Piazza strikeout victim back in the first [Music] what you high fastball the odds of striking out his first time up day he is swinging like that right knee he had tendonitis for the end of season but he is not pushing off that knee well at all for pointing flat-footed chasing it and gone and the strikeout victim number seven for Orlando Hernandez now this swing with the Hernandez running down in the octave waiting at it my kid one's no bad you want it that and then come back with the long ball and his next hit back is that a time and time again this is way being futile E at that breaking ball from Hernandez one out here in the bottom of the fourth inning out Ventura will homered leading off the second for the Mets to the right side Tino Martinez shallow right Ventura will dig for second that ball hit nothing he kicked that boy to feel it took a bad hop Martina Martinez he now has his eyes set on this and on that second hop right there it gets back and hits him on the right side watch he go to the left boom right there he actually hit him on the right hip [Applause] he'll then Robin Victor with the double but that's normally a ball on a routine hop the Tino Martinez sucks up this stadium has been known over the years is a very tough infield you get a lot of bad hops not only off the dirt but off the grass as well it is a double for Ventura and now sealed Guto on the Yankees lead bottom of the fourth Game three drank one [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh and to [Applause] that's desperately trying to get there crowd back into the game time they sing raucous and boisterous tonight was after the home run by Ventura [Applause] he'll trying to help make that happen Hernandez looking for his eighth strikeout over the outside corner to God sighs deal has only swung at the first pitch less than 10 percent this year but on this sequence it's the best kick to handle breaking ball breaking ball fastball and El Duque has been wearing out that outside corner to right-handed batters number eight goes up backward k got steel looking and now on biotic [Applause] ball one hoc by ani struck out his first time three out of nine in this series no RBIs for RBIs in the postseason I've ayane in to write for Paul O'Neill double by Ventura wasted here in the fourth inning fifth inning now game three Yankees leading the series two games to none and leading the men's tonight two to one [Music] up above Queens tonight the bud one airship which travels throughout the year and appears in many exciting sporting events across the country and with us through this world series to this point we're glad they're with us tonight is Game three slipped into the fifth inning Yankees bat lead that series two games to none in this game two to one Derek Jeter first up a nice Frank over the inside corner it'll be cheater than justice than Williams RBIs tonight for the Yankees by justice and O'Neill to far outside a ball to strike [Music] on a11 Jeana she's involved Derek Jeter 26 years old we mentioned it the other night he already has three World Series rings it's almost like as a tree grows and matures with more rings so two very beautiful certainly seems like he's been around a lot longer than that 26 years old leading it off to the fifth inning and he grounds one to the left side for declaw have a play on it Peters on with a leadoff single each two out of three tonight again a 12 game hitting streak in World Series play the Love Guru Ronald Reagan tonight from each side and while we take a look at some of those strikeouts we give Jersey st. Paul companies trivia question which pitcher has the most strikeouts in a World Series game who says the smile creeping onto his face looking to the man to his right [Music] finally no one of those congratulations we had to take part in the event to get it right one on nobody out it's Jeff Jeter [Applause] 15 strikeouts total so far tonight 8 for Hernandez and Megan 16 8 for Rick Reed we've got this guy you know his last one too and the top of the fourth with two on eaters running and justice goes down the left-field line into the corner there by ani got a glove on it couldn't hang on and that's just strike one it's a foul ball but a ball very catchable as Agbayani it's one of those where the wall is near the ball and he misses it but that ball very catchable very catchable no ball one strike out on justice that a good night already a walk back in the first inning an RBI double with two out down the right-field line into third no error given on the play you're given a great hitter another chance quick feet again the chef on Peter back in the third inning was on it first two strikes Jeter had been running on consecutive pitches then he stayed put it was on that fifth Peter wasn't running the justice double past Zealand down the right-field line to tie the game at one since then a leadoff single by Tino Martinez in the fourth and a one out RBI triple by Paul O'Neill as the Yankees on top scooter one [Music] on the outside corner its own to grunts corner now David Justice like all the left-handers for the Yankees tonight vulnerable for the tailing fastball inside [Applause] the ocean wallet two strikes coming in Allah was made about the pitching matchups obviously the pitching matchup to the first two games of this world series some respects favors the event because of the left-handers first lighter than Manson now it's the right-hander Reid misses high two balls two strikes two lefties did not pose much of a problem for Paul O'Neill Tino Martinez David Justice who were 7 out of 17 with five RBIs the first two games now the right-hander read and the Yankees would seem to match up better if Rick read and they would either lighter or Hampton as Jeter goes just as fouls another one away while we have a moment copyrighted telecast presented by authority of the Commissioner of baseball that may not be reproduced or retransmitted in any form the accounts and descriptions of this game may not be disseminated without expressed written consent of Major League Baseball is listening make sure we did that two balls two strikes [Applause] Peter running justice oxidized [Applause] back to first Peter one out so a little different scenario than we had in the League Championship Series Frank Robinson but seelix right-hand man lore he was in the seats on a cell phone tonight it's Bud with some rather high tech earphones on making sure that everything we say passes inspection laughing at everything give us a wave commissioner Commissioner we're looking at you like unfortunate Joe your calls are being monitored for quality perfect I guess being recorded he's finished now he's talking to Billy Crystal one on one out Bernie Williams strike one [Applause] all-in-one on Williams the Commissioner has been busy answering questions about the Roger Clemens Mike Piazza incident from Game two [Applause] a couple of news items about that situation that we've been handed here tonight Jeter at first he's running again and William Prout the first two out and down the second Peter the guys on the pregame show Ethan Steve read the release but I'll say it again for those of you just tuning in Major League Baseball is fine New York Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens and undisclosed about for inappropriate conduct during the first integral team to the World Series at Yankee Stadium two nights ago that was from Frank Robinson Major League Baseball vice president of on-field operations and that was announced today since that announcement came out Roger Clemens has issued a statement right now it's baseball on our mind for the runner at second two out and Tino Martinez at the plate ball one Martina's trying to add to the Yankee lead here in the fifth inning leadoff hit by Jeter justice popped out or he Williams round it out Rick reads talking to himself trying to figure out a way to get through the fifth [Music] [Applause] - at all Bobby Valentine has already had Glendon rush warming once and as you look out into these Mets bullpen he's growing again - OH - Martinez off the end of the bat on a changeup into centerfield for three and Rick Reed gets around the leadoff single by Jeter when we come back the bottom of the fifth we'll read the statement issued by Roger Clemens going to the bottom of the fifth bill due to one Yankee [Applause] when it's 30 minutes of nightly Sports News completely dedicated to local home teams retired of getting the same old 90 seconds of coverage from your late local news check out the 11 p.m. regional sports report nightly only on Fox Sports Net on your local cable or satellite provider four stars happy couple mr. and mrs. Ben Stiller bents bands and these Mets bat in the bottom of the fifth inning trailing the Yankees trailing the world champions games to none two to one in this game three in Jay Payton takes a ball up and away then sellers a big fan of Brett Barbara wolf didn't even try Payton bordick and Reid the obvious chance of a pinch-hitter later initiating and Bobby Valentine chooses to go in that direction do it Oh even though Glendon rush has set down in the Mets bullpen and this is one of those situations where a good hitting pitcher can keep himself in the game as we mentioned earlier Rick Reed with 10 hits on the year as it hit his ball game [Applause] and also a very good Bunter he does a lot of things to keep himself in games in the middle innings two balls and a strike now on Payton Orlando Hernandez turning in his usual fantastic start a home run by Ventura in the second one out double by Ventura in the fourth inning the only other hit one out base hit by Rick Reed the pitcher in the third [Music] now it's due to they Payton had a good pitch to hit there have not been he been many pitches in the middle of the plate by Hernandez tonight that was one he did stays two and two the statement issued by Roger Clemens said I have been advised with a fine and under the rules I have seven days in which to decide whether or not to appeal stay focused on the task at hand helping my team win the World Series so I did not intend to consider the question of an appeal and respond to questions about the fine of the incident itself so this series is over [Applause] eight spoilin again still chewing - before this game we were down on the field it was a real odd feeling but on this field I know Major League Baseball has handed down as punishment there is a fine there is no suspension according to Major League Baseball the disciplinary action for what happened on Sunday night is that a fine and no suspension two balls two strikes eight stays at the plate but you get the feeling that this obviously isn't resolved it's still hanging in the air and whether you go down on the field and go into the club houses you can talk to the two managers you talk to the coaches you talk to the players you talk to reporters standing around the batting cage it's there it's still there and it's hanging over this series two balls two strikes eight pops it up right at home plate for Sutter [Applause] one out bottom of the fifth inning and here Mike Piazza thoughts on around your Clemens incident on Sunday night I think you only got to do just file it away and I said many times before again you know with the things have a way of coming around and unfortunately you know this is a this is a big stage but we have to try to keep the priority on baseball and try to win and it is a shame the fact this is going to be remembered more than the ballgame you pitch that's ball one to Zbornak I don't think there's any doubt about that that right now this world series to this point it's not going to be remembered for that for our 51 minute game one it's not going to be remembered for the outstanding pitching performance by Roger Clemens in Game two to this point is going to be remembered or Roger Clemens growing the bet shattered bat toward Mike Piazza going down the first base line you hope that at some point the focus gets back to the game of baseball and not what went on during the game of baseball Sunday night is bordick takes a strike it's 2 & 1 I don't know if it will last as long as for instance the Carlton Fisk great home run Game six in 1975 but it might [Music] it will certainly be connected through world series war for a long long time you bought one strength in boarding up the middle things get a one-out single for the max bordick is on with Reda scheduled hitter take a look at the st. Paul companies trivia question which pitcher had the most strikeouts in a World Series game why were we smiling at the booth earlier why don't you tell Bob Gibson 17 game one of the 1968 World Series overwhelming performance probably the best World Series game every case I know a lot of people will say Don Larsen it's an overwhelming that day what on one out read up there to bunt he drops it down she makes the play the sacrifice good three four and the tying run in scoring position with two out here in the fifth day talk about Rick Reed with pork team sacrifices on the season that was third in the National League he's been outstanding butter and as we said earlier in the inning Bo Martinez does not want to call the roll foul because they're funding to time also boarding is not a fast runner and we mentioned Timo Perez is not a hitter and you're going to play deep on if you're in the outfield you got to shorten up he doesn't have a lot of power he's going to fall hit to the outfield base did the obvious the outfielders of the Yankees could have a play on Mike bordick David Justice is cute deep and left-field female parents would have to hit a ball twice to hit it the David Justice honor it second two-out Perez takes a breaking ball in for strike one [Applause] now Lee Mazzilli pulling David Justice in and left field [Applause] Farrah's rips it foul that strength too talk about Peres at the beginning of the broadcast tonight you see what he did the division series in the NLCS he was in the middle of everything for the Mets scoring first-inning runs in four of the five games in the NLCS has really had problems getting on track here in the World Series basically due to the way the Yankees of history a lot of fast balls up and out over the plate getting into lazy flyballs to the shallow outfield [Applause] the mint has preparers for an RBI here in the fifth inning [Applause] [Music] breaking balls just best Hernandes trying that side door slider right there and if you mess with his pitch you miss away another example of the guile of elder pen or he could pitch now the one-two going up then after it still wanted to on parents [Music] [Applause] [Music] Alphonso necks but El Duque will come right after this 23 year old rookie who has three RBIs in postseason the one advantage portage has there are two strikes and two out the second base you get a good look at that strike and it give you an extra step or two minute you see the ball in the strike zone and Mike bordick has the same view that you folks just have from second base it's right there and if he sees that fall somewhere in this area he takes off [Applause] proud of Che trying to climb back into it that's down by run runner at second two out Peres ripped apart [Applause] [Music] Hernandes trying to finish off the Mets here in the fifth inning [Applause] Farrah's now at battle mode try to hit a mistake [Applause] [Applause] [Music] - - [Music] situation where you want a challenge Paris with the Garter Alfonso on death [Applause] they walked him back hit that pick collection right there throw a 3-2 curveball to a guy who can't drive the ball regardless of what Alfonso does this is a bad pitch right here a 3-2 breaking ball and Paris faked it and walk got a challenging in that situation [Music] [Applause] [Music] well the vents have a guy they consider their clutch hitter that's trailing in this 2000 World Series two games to none trailing in Game three two to one fifth inning two on two-out and Edgardo Alfonzo they're saying 13 consecutive postseason game at the place [Applause] [Music] drank one [Music] mm postseason Alfonso's 6 out of 13 with runners in scoring position the Mets by the way were just handed only their second walk of this puts Alfonso at the plate and Alan and all to hold [Applause] one slider that was hittable and that one wasn't [Applause] Alfonzo may have missed his pitch [Music] [Applause] [Music] two on two out [Applause] Alfonzo stays alive [Music] [Applause] bordick Peres the runner tying run at second go ahead run it first [Applause] Edgardo Alfonzo a hero in his native Venezuela trying to be a hero yet again these fans packed into Shea Stadium [Applause] god strikeout number nine for Orlando Hernandez he walks the 23 year old rookie Peres to get out Fon so to the plate he strikes out Alfonso for the second time tonight and after 5 game 3 2 1 Yankees Orlando Hernandez reported sick yesterday with flu-like symptoms he is turning the stomach's of these met fans here tonight in Game three he struck out nine one strike got away from his career-high in the postseason you got last year in Game one of the World Series at Atlanta strength on the outside corner from Rick Reed to Jorge Posada Masada than O'Neill that Brosius anybody goods on Hernandez here at the sixth inning [Music] strike two on Posada lost in the [Music] phrased and we're keeping on Orlando Hernandez a solid start from Rick reef working with nine days rest coming off of four outing at the NLCS Game three against st. Louis two balls two strikes to Posada there have been 17 strikeouts in this game and we're only in the sixth inning the record for strikeouts in a nine inning game 1963 Dodgers Yankees they'll suit their needs at game by the way was started by standing coat bag he struck out 15 started against whitey Ford wide he struck out for Stan Williams struck out five Steve Hamilton one Machado pops into left for our Bionic that's one out here in the top of the sixth inning well tonight a liner was given the Roberto Clemente award presented by John Hancock Financial Services the award is given annually during the World Series the player who best exemplifies the game of baseball sportsmanship community involvement and the individuals contribution to his team so congratulations to Al Leiter and they picked a good one here's Paul O'Neill [Music] strike two oh dear [Applause] [Music] mail is doubled tripled driven in a run now six out of ten of this series one ball one strike all a member of the 1990 cigarette machine the 90s version prevents machine Lou Pinella and the Reds when wired a wire with the Oakland Athletics four in a row tony'll was the right fielder come to the Yankees in 92 right too I've already heard from Joe Torry calling Paul O'Neill a warrior he could Steve talked about Paul O'Neill during the pregame show yet as he plays this October with the Yankees it might very well be his last in a Yankee uniform without a contract past this season one ball two strikes some changeup that Rick breed through to Paul O'Neill that last hit we talked at the other night about the ring finger when Roger Clemens threw that ball whoa to Tino Martinez ring finger becoming involved that's what happened on that changeup from Rick Ruiz you could see that ring finger that did sin that was that pitch that O'Neal swung in this regard the dirty [Applause] one two two balls two strikes [Applause] 100 even on the night for Rick read various ways to throw a changeup some pictures refer to it as a pom ball versus not a splitter but for the most part all changeup are choked in somewhat reaching for it diving stop Alfonzo and that was the change-up from Rick Reed in a fine play by Alfonso who change-up hit hard but no change here as Alfonso as he's done so often just moving from third to second three years ago so calm cool and collected as you got through his knees wiped his hand off grabbed the ball out of his glove and threw on it time to get Paul O'Neill Evert Brosius off the end of the bat behind second base and Alfonso who takes care of it so 1-2-3 inning for Rick Reed now it'll be Beyonce Ventura zeal for the men's bottom of the sixth inning Yankees lead 2 to 1 sterling championship series about it guard o Alfonso in that back for big hits in the Mets lineup called up Samuel Eto'o to play for the Yankees Orlando Hernandez who is in complete control again here tonight is eight and OH [Applause] in his postseason career and he leads two to one bottom of the sixth inning dealing with Piazza first are the after will dig for second it's a ground rule double and that's the way the bottom of the sixth inning begins a double from Piazza I saw him right on the line Scott Brosius was leaning toward the third-base line of electio line and yot september's it evidently looking for the breaking ball you could see that flat pin right there right on the line [Music] Steve gross you one attempt third baseman will anticipate they're kind of leaning toward a line that realizes leadoff double here in the fifth now it's been two rows hit the ball hard twice and interfering with that ground ball down the left-field line off the bat of Piazza double he's at second with nobody out bets down bar on and Ventura takes a strike back in the second after exactly the Yankees tied at the top of the 3rd and went ahead to the 4th go on one sir almost walked right into it come on robin boudreau right now is not trying to get the runner over he's trying to get the runner in Hernandez coming up and in through the met third baseman to keeping from bleeding out over there [Applause] [Music] breaking ball in for strike two two balls two strikes pretty good paying them right there the fastball up and in and now the curveball [Applause] honor in second with nobody out and now a full counterfeiter steal next [Music] and a double now a walk and it's two on with nobody out [Applause] back in 73 tongue McGraw said you got to believe point that phrase around Jace Stadium this season here at home the Mets 55 and 26 tied for the best of the majors technically we talked earlier about the one quote unquote home loss in Japan nearly 55 and 25 here it's Jane this year 70 game sweeps here at home if I come from behind win dodgy-looking down and quickly row on the third-base coach to determine what to do Bobby balance on in situations like this has hit and run with todd zeile we've got Benny Agbayani and Jay Payton two young hitters after Zeile I'm not future Bobby will want a front sacrifice and give up the Outland feel at the place did not put down a sacrifice all season long [Applause] during one not only that not only what's happening at the plate in zeal who hasn't dropped down a sacrifice bunt all season long but zeal is going to spot trying to Punk Piazza to third right in Ventura at a second to the slowest guys in this game if this pitch is DePaul more than likely the next pitch cookies a hit-and-run feel a great fat handler [Applause] down the left-field line venture is being held at third an RBI double steal in a 2-2 game [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] on the first 50 may have even missed this time are doing it on his own a plant liner from El Duque a double for zeal big the banks to the bullpen and all points in between here at Shea Stadium the RBI double zeal and a visit to the mound from Billy Connors [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] while they meet on the mound we talk about game for for just a moment Denny Neagle has been tabbed as the starter for the Yankees not David don't take on Bobby Jones who's been both terrific and four and two starts this postseason that's tomorrow at 8:00 Eastern on Fox but right now the Yankees leading two games to none this score is tied in Game three to two at second and third nobody out for Benny Agbayani interesting in proper alignment my view by Joe Torre the right side of the infield was in the left side of the infield is that the reason for that at biani hit the ball hard to elect but not to his right [Applause] and on the hands about by on Easter egg one [Applause] [Music] [Applause] wouldn't chase it a ball on a strike Stanton and Nelson big surprise out there in the bullpen for the Yankees very few times where a pitcher during any ball game will say I'm going to strike this dinner out question El Duque right now hit day event I want to strike at bayani out I do not want to make contact right too [Applause] I think Benny Agbayani is going to see either this pitch again in the dirt or something off the plate away if you're a hitter and you'll learn this with experience you got to give him anything inside and look for something on the outside part of the plate outside corner off the plate away [Applause] time called at the plate Brandon's like Jeff Kellogg is Haq Bionic stepped out [Applause] dígame sixth inning it's Jay second and third nobody out hi honey wouldn't go for it two balls two strikes again away away away yep and the strike zone when your head particularly to a young hitter [Applause] Jenny Ayane has hit in all 11 postseason games this year for the Maxie's oppa - tonight [Applause] both count James Payton the rookie on deck [Applause] by out he steps out [Applause] Bobby Valentine sticking without buying his lineup tonight did not go to the left-handed hitting Darryl Hamilton [Music] Last Waltz out back [Applause] after seeing so many breaking ball it's normal for a hitter to be way behind the fat ball at the pitch that Vinny Agbayani normally handles but it's been one breaking ball after another and in a fat fault after throwing so many breaking balls the velocity wasn't there for her and is only 87 still pull three balls two strikes second and third nobody out [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] what a great at-bat by Benny Agbayani [Applause] [Music] that falls outside one in one big he went after it but he learned from that bounces back [Music] he went after that one one brighter and el duque tried to entice him a little more and then he said haha not again now it's Jay Payton with the bases-loaded nobody out or run his home for the Mets here in the sixth thing it's now a tie game right down the middle strike one [Applause] 100 now on i-94 Hernandez [Applause] time to hold up couldn't Owen too I get again I think you'll see Hernandez [Applause] try to play to Jade patient's anxiety very anxious up there now World Series bases-loaded tie game all he needs is a fly ball pays another bad ball swinger to begin with look for the next couple of pictures to be out of the strike zone [Applause] they've got a piece of it out of the strike zone Galan too [Music] [Applause] and I throw it far enough out of the strike zone for Jay Payton not to swing at that pitch up above the shoulders is able to get a piece of it foul is back [Music] therefore wendel getting loose for the Mets and they're both back [Applause] all eyes on Jay Payton [Music] [Applause] two doubles two walks in this it far only one run [Applause] one ball two strikes [Applause] [Applause] [Music] one out strikeout number 10 for Hernandez playing on JPEGs being so anxious and fall about a foot outside and Jake couldn't hold up [Applause] now meeting on the mound is Posada goes out Brosius comes over from third [Applause] the batter will be boarding which I'm sure to some in this crowd they wonder why it's boarding and not somebody off the Mets bench bordick is 4 out of 30 this postseason with no runs batted in I think he hit his last time up may have earned him and at that right here if you would pinch-hit for bordick in this situation it would have to be a left-handed batter and a fast runners to my like darryl hamilton to sow the DoublePlay the Valentine stays with Zbornak Anke infield looking for the DoublePlay ball up the middle bases-loaded one out for one the further behind Fernandez falls to boarding the better chance of a other squeeze perhaps according to cook Bunner Ventura is not a fast runner but that in no way dictates whether you squeeze or not some managers don't like to do it with a bases-loaded right because the force at home an excellent fielding pitcher in Hernandez [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] one ball no strikes bases-loaded one out and a breaking ball in for a straight one and one that's trailing in this series by two games they've tied game 3 near the sixth inning look for the lead bases-loaded one out strike two on 40 remember right-handed batters hit only 210 against Hernandez this year Tim points slider right there Bobby Valentine stayed without biani in this fixture you work to walk Baker struck out Valentine stays with porters who set out for the ball and two strikes [Applause] - and - and he did well - lay off that fish [Applause] all three three balls two strikes with a bases-loaded one out and now this crowd to its feet Huda fastball too low [Applause] [Music] [Applause] No back-to-back strikeouts of Payton and bordick take place right here here's the key pinch the 104 aching ball and now the fat bloke or take away nothing breaking ball set up that it's back very few pitchers have the courage with the bases loaded the bro one old breaking ball but Hernandez dead and reap the benefits [Applause] bordick down on strike the 11 strikeouts for Hernandez now it's Darryl Hamilton off the bench to bat for Rick Reed in the 11 strikeouts tonight tied to Yankee World Series record I'm Bob curling he sits against the Dodgers throughout Hamilton breaking ball strike one [Music] Wendell getting loose bases were loaded with nobody out now they're loaded with two down - - game here the six [Applause] the Ahmanson way Peter the 42nd and had rolled an opportunity for the mess [Music] ends in only one run [Music] [Applause] double by Piazza two doubles two walks in the inning two strikeouts in the groundout makes it a 2-2 game through six back after this from your local Fox station [Music] [Applause] that's the first swing of the seventh-inning it belongs to El Duque Orlando Hernandez is Turk Wendell enters the game seventh inning a2 to score and Hernandez trying to push a bunt to the right side missed it on to read a strong start here tonight six innings two runs on six hits only one walk and eight strikeout one out [Music] [Applause] so one out here in the top of the seventh inning this Sunday on America's favorite pregame show JB Terry Howie Grizzard joined by weather girl jillian Barberie who tells you where it's on where it's not plus our sarcastic stage Jimmy Kimmel makes his fix gets in his licks on the boys it's all part of the wildest NFL pregame show on TV Fox NFL Sunday this week at noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific only on Fox that's ball one to Vizcaino questions will be asked yep [Applause] in the direction of Bobby Valentine for what transpires the bottom the 6th inning allowing Mike bordick to back four out of 30 in the postseason with no RBI the bases loaded one out against Orlando El Duque Hernandez with the likes of Matt Franco Lenny Harris for the all-time best pinch hitters in Daryl Hamilton on the bench Bobby Valentine went with bordick and it did not work [Applause] Hamilton ending up hitting with two outs and the bases loaded Bubba Trammell would not have been the hitter unless Mike Stanton came in the game one a-two on this guy [Music] table of the seats here at Shea Stadium as Turk Wendell stinking over here in the seventh now Dennis cook gets loose for the vent these Tainos going to out Turk Wendell with that necklace on as he pinches here's the explanation the man himself these are all humming cookie there's no shark's tooth a lot of people make speculations of shark's teeth but yeah this is all Toby's from right humming well I thought a big-league uniform on every day that's the kind of a tribute to all the hard work had taken against the Bailey and that's a lifetime of hard work and this is more or less a lifetime of accomplishments off the field for me something I love to do there's ball one down and in to Derek Jeter look at the George Scott at the Boston Red Sox the wore a similar necklace and when they asked him what was already said second baseman when de was taking care of the first to hear the 7th inning back-to-back strikeouts and now Jeter the count of two and Oh Wendell has always been in the category of quirky he first came to the big leagues with the Cubs the high jump over the foul line brushing his teeth between innings chewing licorice three balls no strikes he has quantified it if not successfully first came to the big league which is the reason why a lot of that stuff didn't fly breno on Jeter with justice next and that's on the inside corner three and one you fastball catches the inside corner yes if you chew licorice you have to brush your teeth every it's a good idea yeah breaking ball is low a two-out walk [Applause] and now a visit will be coming from Piazza as he gets the sign from Dave walls with justice coming up Dennis cook getting ready in the bullpen we may be headed for a pitching change [Applause] a two-out walk is kept the top of the seventh inning alive the bottom of the seventh inning the Mets will have the top of the order Peres Alphonso and Piazza base Orlando Hernandez most relievers are customed to getting ready in a hurry and Dennis cook certainly had ample time to get ready and here comes Dave Wallace [Applause] so wallets out to make the pitching change [Applause] it makes the sign to the bullpen and Turk Wendell is gone a two-out walk is the end of his night now it's cooked to deal with justice [Music] explain [Music] Turk Wendell still gritting his teeth I was talking teeth from this guy but he's got his teeth clenched to him in the dugout bench he's upset that he's been taken out of this game in favor of Dennis cook to deal with a lefty David Justice justice who isn't bothered play all that much by left-handed pitching and cook see his numbers in his career during the postseason would be run category highlighted zero in a team game yet Dennis cook can't run the ball in on left-handed batters and a left-handed batters got to have some fear against a left-handed pitcher so that simple little playing a two-out walk to Derek Jeter got swindle out of the ball game in that good result in a good thing for the Yankees then a foot was brought on in game 1 to start the 10th inning he walked David Justice to start that ending many walk Bernie Williams after that before he was relieved by Glendon rush B Mets did not allow the Yankees to score in that 10th however so it's cook to deal with justice after just as the switch-hitter Bernie Williams the 2-2 game 7th inning Game three of the 2000 World Series with the Yankees leading two games to none just trying to keep it tied going to the bottom of the seventh the Mets will have the top of their order our back to the situation watching the fence hold against the runner would seal off the bag with a left-hander cook in this case on the bow [Music] [Music] here's Lee Mazzilli the first base coach for the Yankees well but they're going to they're going to play with you over here now no Leo don't have to have to get a fork for you to steal second base they'll say situation brought over twice [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] and Peter just got back and cooked came awfully close to a block very close to a block you have to step over to first base if you take that right leg and put it behind the left leg and you throw to first it's a Dennis cook lifting that leg that's where now the ball gets away now they're going to say the whole point umpire says but it did hit justice finally and justice will go down to first hit by the pitch it's two on two-out [Applause] but if you said that Dennis cotton doesn't really have anything to work inside on the left-handed hitters that tailing fastball he tried to go inside just taste David justice right out of the batter's butt [Applause] Bobby Valentine electing to pull Wendell with the two-out walk to cheater justice hit by a and now two on two out for Bernie Williams [Applause] [Music] Williams over 10 in this world series runners on at first and second two out time games benefiting ball one from cook [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] Bernie Williams trying to put the Yankees back out his front he backs out of the batter's box for a wild pitch from cook sometimes you become so concerned with that runner at first base you forget the hitter three throws the first safe and then Dennis cook it's David Justice now Bernie Williams out in front of a changeup a ball and a strike all those numbers for Bernie Williams against Dennis cook three for 15 in his career however two of the three basic home run good changed you up in a fastball count he does discount when in Russian John Franco getting loose for the Mets in their bullpen but it's cook against Williams and it's ball 2 2 & 1 Bernie Williams is it combined eight out of 63 and his appearance is at the plate during World Series play [Applause] Peter and justice abort with two out two balls and a strike three more [Applause] if Dennis cook loses Bernie Williams to a walk I would suspect Glendon rush would be the pitcher great balls and a strike [Applause] [Music] [Applause] suck his face three batters in this world series walked to hit the other and now I strike gold Williams back to the plate it's a full count [Applause] it's easier Tori asking Don Zimmer the ball was high we ought for bringing its facts that ball appears to be low enough so runners on at first and second two out a full count the runners will take off [Applause] Yankees try to regain the lead here in Game three [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] I look back at Jeter since if Dimmick Dennis cook was most successful with convinced that that was the change-up he threw it on a 100 count Williams way out in front Peter and justice the runners they'll take off 3-2 from coca Bernie Williams James young got him and the inning is over a walk a hit batsman to lap time to stretch its shade in a 2-2 game [Applause] [Music] Dennis cook strikes out Bernie Williams with a couple of Yankees on base Lee Mazzilli the first base coaching a conversation with Dave justice thought perhaps that one a no change that may help Bernie Williams the Bernie I mean that's what you needed to see one ok no please stay back you know yeah yeah [Applause] Bernie Williams swinging a little too hard sometimes an off-speed pitch early in the sequence will force you to stay back a little bit more that was not the case however as Bernie chased at age up for strike three vol 1 2 Peres in this game underway at the bottom of the 7th parent has been tried to find in this game and usually he does try to bunt strike we talked about and we have talked about it in the LCS and the World Series he laid down a 3-2 with the count three balls and two strikes a bunt down the third base line against the San Francisco Giants Oh Hill but any time regardless of the count showing it pulling back from ball two two and one [Applause] Brosius is in and certainly expecting a bun or at least it's ready for Tino Martinez is pulled in and even with a bag over at first [Music] handle that failed justice back to make the catch away in the bottom of the seventh [Music] shimon peres hit a ball about his heart and he can hit it the other way tailing fastball from El Duque and justice hauls it in [Music] [Applause] till one down in a Garda elfonzo will bat where the bases empty and Piazza on deck strength on the outside corner from Hernandez it was struck out 11 he's pitched well from the start but he hasn't pitched any better at any other point tonight than he did in the bottom two six minute Bonzo rolled went over to third you took care of Alfonso who's over for two out nobody on a new one it's the start of the fifth inning Edgardo Alfonzo you don't seem look yet sadly too often tasting one bad slider after another you strike out a journal Alfonso twice in one game and give him a collar Oh for four you've done something here is Piazza with two out nobody on check this swing ball one knocking about Orlando Hernandez you specifically mentioned the strikeouts drank out of Payton last inning with the bases loaded nobody out a strikeout affording the pinch-hitter Darryl Hamilton bounced into a force out at second as the Piazza tied up on a pitch up and in a ball to strength yeah almost all of the Hernandez strikeout at then on pitches the outside part of the plate it just blows this ball five Piazza a letter high fastball [Music] Fiat - pops it up right side of the infield Tino Martinez Orlando Hernandez through seven strong innings game 3 goes to the 8th here at Shea Stadium tied at 2 welcome this mannequin by Orlando Hernandez 7 innings two runs on six hits Tino Martinez leads off for the Yankees here in the eighth Martinez Posada O'Neill [Music] against Dennis cook who got out of trouble in the 71 that's what Dennis cook does because he doesn't have that failing fastball he'll drop down on left-handers about the remarkable consistency of Orlando Hernandez on the outside part of the plate to right-handed batters tonight you know now on Tino Martinez it is struck out 11 and most of them have been on the outside part of the plate to the right-handed batters [Music] marjina is 1 out of 3 tonight with a single and a run scored bring it home from Dennis cook [Applause] now spring to action out of the Mets bullpen here in the eighth franco getting loose we didn't catcher Posada on deck [Music] three balls no strikes on Tino Martinez first up here the eighth inning and a four-pitch walk [Applause] we talked about El Duque Orlando Hernandez and it's consistency outside Iranian one soon [Applause] three for the fifth one seven [Applause] nine strikeouts of the eleven on the outside corner or off the plate away remarkable inning by inning 29 pitches thrown during that long sixth inning which he allowed two doubles two walks but only one run [Applause] now Jorge Posada with a runner at first nobody out he's thinking sacrifice forget it he hasn't dr. fights all year he's not going to start now and he's not going to be taking Dennis cook at the pier John Franco out in the Mets bullpen [Music] they may call on a Brooklyn native to get the Mets through the 8th Posada will be at the plate when we come back and John Franco will be on the mound Franco is the third out of the bullpen for the New York Mets tonight in Game three and back of the booth Joe Buck Tim McCarver Bob Brentley with you that big opportunity for the Mets in the sixth inning you have a feeling that was their shot they could not come up with the RBI and it's Orlando Hernandez at least to this point the game they just have to marvel at the way he pitches and the command that he has if you guys have talked about over that outside part of the plate to the right-handed batters I think there are two things allowing Mike bordick to hit in the sixth inning with the bases loaded one out and allowing Dennis cook to start the eighth inning I mean you got to go with your best it's a tie ballgame the Mets can ill afford to lose another ballgame and Dennis cook has had control of problems with this control throughout this postseason as well as postseason staff so I was quite surprised as he Dennis cook go out there to start this inning as well so it is Franco now and he will deal with Posada during the pitching change jorge posada went down and talked to third-base coach really random make sure they get their signs straight runner at first with nobody out and a strike over the inside quarter [Applause] only a 213 average of the postseason this world series 3 out of 11 with one RBI [Music] again only two Franko's betting tostada up for that changeup that goes blowing away usually it's down of a strike zone that's the way grips [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] nicely turned by Robin Ventura actually that was the pitch that Franco got away with that was the fat fall and it was too good a pitch bosanna hit it hard but Ventura turns it along with Alfonso [Applause] the start of a smile on the face of Franco and now he's back to business dealing with Paul O'Neill Jenna terrific game ranked one from Franco O'Neill doubled in the second crippled homer on our Tina is back in the fourth inning and that gave the Yankees a two to one lead at the time then he was robbed of a hit on a diving stop to his left plat garner elfonzo into six batting in the eighth with two out and nobody on base that's on the outside corner and John Franco has come in and done nothing but throw strike and you can see the defense both corner infielders are on the line in curl and deal and the outfielders straightaway and Keith row Neal taking jvt toward left-center no balls two strikes up the middle base hit at the top of the 8th Dunnan continued third hit of the night for Paul O'Neill that is his seventh hit of this world series and twelve it back he got away with that was fast all the crostata but does not get away with too good a pitch to Paul O'Neill that ball is too good it's too fat and O'Neal singles up the middle and that's going to bring up a pitch hitter and a guy who has done damage to Franco in the past in Glen Allen Hill so far this postseason Hill is 1 out of 15 with seven strikeouts the two-out hit by O'Neill keeps the top of the 8th inning alive and these Yankees [Applause] don't hesitate to send to Glenallen Hill to the plate because of those numbers in his career against John Franco 500 average free long ball John Franco pitched an inning in Game one the eighth inning of that ball into a lot of fast balls in that appearance as well I think John Franco maybe is trying to crop up the Yankee hitters who may be going to plate looking for that changeup he throw more fastball than I've ever seen him throw he throws a fastball over the fat part of the plate to Glenallen Hill he can lose it in a hurry to game-winning home runs against Franco while a member of the Chicago Cubs [Applause] franco keeps it away from Glenallen Hill he started this season with a cub now block getting loose in the dugout as the pitchers spot on Orlando Hernandez waits on deck when Alan Hill a chance for the Yankee runner at first with two out to two game in the eighth you can get away from hill it's one and one [Applause] 90 mile-an-hour sneaking fastball on the outside corner trying to stay away from the power of Glenallen Hill this is the matchup that Joe Torre wanted late the World Series game Glen Allen Hill against John Franco go ahead run at first with two out and that's a little flare into right center Tara's coming to get and this seat goes to the bottom of the eighth inning a walk a double play in a man left yank into left 98 still tied at 2 the best seat in the house inside the bud 1 airship flying overhead tonight to bring you these beautiful live shots Budweiser the official beer of Major League Baseball in the 2000 Subway Series also known as the World Series by the way at the plate a homer a double a walk [Music] and now he's in the hole Owen to get the feeling that the count Owen to deal on deck that Hernandez wants to get Ventura out with a breaking ball he has had the best at-bats by far against they'll Duke there tonight we saw in the game at third after Joe Torre lifted Brosius for the pinch-hitter Hill Ventura is gone and that is strikeout number 12 for Orlando Hernandez a Yankee World Series record this Sunday catch the best professional figure skaters in the world as they competed the grand slam super teams of skating Brian Boitano Katerina bit in your area here's Zeile [Applause] [Music] one out nobody on and seal backs out of there [Music] and here's the Yankees World Series record for Orlando Hernandez with 12 strikeouts 1 out nobody on a ball 1 [Music] odds Ayane next [Applause] not get the call on the outside corner to a No [Applause] so that jewelry had action in his bullpen back in the 6th inning [Applause] and as persevered and here he is in the eighth launch good pitch right there top deals looking inside trying to yank something and he gets the breaking ball in a fastball count [Music] two and two [Music] [Applause] [Applause] he'll an RBI double down the left-field line the six inning two strikeouts prior to that at-bat I get something going for the met with one out the 8th that's back behind the plate now boy [Applause] [Music] this is the 11th World Series game here at Shea Stadium the bats are seven and three during World Series play here at home 129 pitches on the night for Hernandez [Applause] to to score bottom of the 8th inning and a 2 2 pitch to seal both counts [Applause] [Music] if you are counselor right now you have to be thinking slider slider on the to a note count for a call strike sub situation for kasnia ground ball up the middle backpack to the left of Jeter and into left-center field deal is on for the second time tonight no but I think he shook off the slider I think Posada wanted it he shook it off and threw the fastball that is a rare ground ball hit by the men only two ground ball outs recorded by Hernandez tonight and that's what the Yankees need right now the ground ball DoublePlay ball hopped right over the glove of Derek Jeter Peter got there but it took a Hoffmann jumped over his glove into left-center field now one on one out Benny Agbayani on Vienna has been a postseason hero this year for the bet go back to Game three of the division series [Applause] he'll drugs of throw rock biotic getting a 13th inning home run [Applause] against Aaron pulls beat the giant [Applause] next day Bobby Jones pitched a one-hitter that's where in the National League Championship Series butter at first one out on my Ani bakes blow on [Applause] the very fact that Hernandez does not throw a lot of ground balls takes away the hit and run you may do it but one of the primary things for a hit and run is to get the ball on the ground with the only two ground ball outs made all right doubtful by out into left-center field that ball is gone beyond the for the plain text three to a big lead again [Applause] to [Applause] that ball tailed back over the fat part of the place at by Yanni hits it in a perfect fight this court I feel was not a fast the pocket [Applause] [Music] [Applause] race to the plate deal all the way from first on a double into last gutter BYOT biotic now it's Joe McKuen pinch running pirata he'll stay in the game and play left field which the Mets do anyway in the ninth inning with a lead they get more speed on the bases as Jay Payton chopped one off the middle this guy you know to his right good play infield hit first and third one out Vizcaino did only good we talked about it the other night when a right-handed batter as fast as Peyton hits the ball on the outside part of the plate he's already going toward first base what a jump out of the batter's box for Peyton [Applause] and it's right here they out that part of the place why 134 pitches on the ninth right now for Hernandez which ties his season-high [Applause] [Music] here comes Joe Jory [Applause] [Music] El Duque will exit possibly three outs away from his first post-season he's gone he was here eighteen enterprises Orlando Hernandez now will sit and watch as Joe Torre goes to the bullpen for the first time tonight whilst and warms up will remind you to watch Game four of the World Series on Fox tomorrow night for the 1 million dollar Gillette strike zone Jalen prior to the start for Denny tangle against Tommy Jones Jones the terrific start in the division series against the Giants the one hitter not good in Game four in the NLCS against st. Louis Denny Neagle was the loser twice in the American League Championship Series with Seattle now it's Stanton first angle tomorrow night starter for the Yankee Lenny Harris was announced as a pinch-hitter so he is a race that forced the pitching change Bobby Valentine gets what he wants and that is Bubba Trammell facing the left-hander Stanton in Game one Mike Stanton was superb three strikeout retiring six in a row and that game the Yankees won on the hit by Jose Vizcaino in the twelfth inning Tramell trying to add to immense three to eighth inning lead breaking ball is low [Applause] Kurt Abbott going to have to enter the game anyway because events are pink sitting in the spot originally held by bordick about that first and third one out one ball no strikes if Trammell hits into a double play Bobby Valentine employs two double switch Abbott goes into nine hole and Armando Benitez would win eight [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Vineet des who has been anything but solid in postseason [Applause] swing by Trammell ball and strike but he says who blew the save in Game one of this world series and has had his fair share of trouble in the postseason allowing seven home runs in his career ready out of the Mets bullpen [Applause] Tramell trying to give that bolt man a little more breathing room [Applause] a run on three hits in the inning so far and a breaking ball is a beauty standard 1 & 2 [Applause] [Applause] butters on at the corners with one out [Applause] check on paper one reason to throw over there is not to keep Jay Payton from running but to keep him close enough we're on a hard ground ball he can't take out Jose this Diana or Derek Jeter Jay Payton part of the specimen is concern is really put together in rock-solid and run fast that spells trouble for a middle infielder and double plate this way [Music] grant will get the ball in the air the cueing will tag Williams comes up throwing the queuing to the plate state and the Mets Levi to [Applause] [Music] [Music] like a splitter from Mike Tintin it stayed up and what a job of hitting you can see the front side was gone but Trammell is so strong he gets it in the air and gets it deep enough to score Joe McKuen [Applause] [Music] [Applause] sack fly off the bench from Bubba Trammell a 2-run Mets lead and now Kurt Abbott will bat or something that needs to be talked about is what transpired back in the sixth inning [Applause] after the mansion score the run to tie it to on with nobody out Bobby Valentine stayed with Benny Agbayani who worked a walk keeping him in the game brought him back up here in the eighth inning and I've Ayane delivers an RBI double breaking ball in for a strike that double put the Mets on top here in the inning an epic Ewing running throughout my Ani to score to the sac fly on top of that keeping corticon alive even though he struck out the second out of the sixth inning his spot comes up again here in the eighth Bobby Valentine pinch hits hair is that Trammell who delivers the sac fly if Abbott had been brought into the game back in the 6th and going to the field to the seventh Bobby Valentine really would have had to do some juggling and we wanted to pinch-hit for Abbott to put Alfonso it short if you want it but by being patient and staying with his starting lineup including porta cannot be on e it is paid off here in the eighth inning that's what you could do when you're tied also in the sixth inning if they're behind you might be forced to pitch it for 40 but because they were tied you plan to win it home you had the last effect Abbott is gone a stent takes care of them but the Mets finally take care of El Duque two runs on three hits in a sac fly debrie goes to the night hi honey broke the time and queuing later store town 40 men he impressed for the Mets this game goes to the ninth inning of the Mets leading for two and refuelings and left habits it's short on the mound is Armando Benitez and Chuck Knobloch the pinch-hitter and he'll make Benitez throw a strike numbers in the postseason for Knobloch who started this night on the bench in favor of this guy you know who's on deck [Applause] strength on the inside corner [Applause] benitez it was only three of nine in his career and save opportunities of the postseason trying to protect the to run nine physically a leadoff single by now block and here come the Yankee [Music] in Game one with the mint on top Scalia to one out and nobody on the chin kick want to Paul O'Neill Polonia as they pick get it in fifth I know work them up in a sex live I cut not locked private and then they went he's won it in 12 for two three on the hit by this guy you know there's no question beneath this throws hard but after following the pictures he has followed in his ballgame for the Mets he throws the ball over the heart of the plate a lot and the Yankee hitters are very good controlling the bat within this link them putting the ball in play making their Jim the ugly numbers for Benitez his postseason history and now Louise Polonia will come off the bench and bat for Vizcaino both belong and Vizcaino got hits in Game one against Benitez after Polonius Peter and then justice Bologna up there swingin flies to Center for [Applause] [Music] that'll bring in Derek Jeter against the guy like Benitez who at times can have control problems otherwise to go up there and swing at the first now I think if you're Polonia you get a hit on the first it looks great and it looks good at the other night he got a hit on a on a one o pitch that was down out of a strike zone [Applause] one on one out here for Teeter last two hits tonight just blown by and strike one [Applause] if you get a pitch you're looking for and you're the tying run err pack [Applause] both pinch-hitters during the regular season coming off the bench they swing it the first thing they see in the strike zone here no exception here in the World Series Peter tonight is struck out singled and scored singled again and walked tying run at the plate one ball one strike coming up after the game the link local news except for those of you on the west coast don't forget for more postgame coverage the Fox Sports Net on your local cable or satellite provider todd zeile at first is backing up toward the fat part of the infield we ought to backed up Agard the line right - on Jeter the reason for that is Derek pewter Jeter's plot is down the right-field line a good slider from the knee PES bad pitch remember Derek Jeter goes to right with two strikes that's out of play and still one and two on Jeter [Applause] David Justice waits to hit back [Applause] eight tens with a franchise record 41 saved during the regular season two hours [Music] actually Derek Jeter takes the basic to hit thousand often what good six up right on the inside part of the plate [Applause] at strikeout by the way ties the World Series record in a nine inning game 25 we mentioned it earlier 1963 and then a 12 inning game Mets against Oakland in 1973 [Music] now it's justice tying run at the plate top of the ninth inning for two Mets Israel in this 2000 World Series two games to none ball one to justice Subway Series back a.m. that lost the first two games came back to win the series well 55 and 56 Brooklyn and 55 the Yankees at 56 one ball no strength unjustice one [Applause] that's just looking for an inside fastball the kind of ballgame up I was too far inside if you're the mess you definitely want to see this ballgame and right now with David Justin Bernie Williams in the on-deck circle six for seven lifetime against Benitez with a home run a 1-1 to justice Knobloch takes second on ball two no stolen base for Knobloch but it takes that force out away at second base two balls and a strike on David Justice Armando Benitez is trying to save it John Franco [Applause] [Music] [Applause] three balls and a strike again Bernie Williams waits on deck [Applause] [Music] fool October night this case Stadium crowd sweating through another bonitas ninth-inning three balls and a strike on justice that's a foul ball and justice need to be back three two an idea of how hard beneath says throws just as looking for the fastball inside we got it and still broke his back this is a good pitch to hit justise almost on his tiptoes trying to lift that ball and he hits it foul you this crowd waiting to erupt [Applause] Blood Service with Benitez on the mound a leadoff hit by Knobloch Melania flied to center heaters struck out now now bob ii would do out the free to count on justice [Applause] puns Oh met when Game three [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] you will let's give you the Maryland's playing a game for Game three [Applause] [Music] Benny on biotic bottom of the ain't reading one-on-one out he plugs the gap in left-center field and our let's go down to Steve Lyons on the field Steve I don't we just on the replay of that big Nick you hang up with them in the 8th inning the game go ahead Ron El Duque so stop against the right-handed what were you looking to do in that at-bat assignment or something you know mo because you saw me up and I'm changing sizes oxygen coming we still get the ball down inside I was out there a lot of people thought that maybe Bobby Valentine was gold another left-handed baton is out there which might have meant that he'd have to sit down Bobby said why would I sit Benny down you made him look good ah yeah you know you always have faced and needs be put in today you know everybody was telling me I wasn't playing today before I even told you but I just said if I'm in the lineup not in the lineup Fred there are you come into this game down two games to nothing you need a huge win talk about the effort that Reed gave you tonight all Rick we give us a good effort I mean that's what we need it you know we needed somebody to throw them on and do the job and get it done I have been a great job man congratulations go get him tomorrow night all right so hard dough let's go back to you all right Steve thank you very much the Mets coming home down two games to none they got a strong start tonight guys from Rick Reed and then finally they broke through in the 8th inning against El Duque there's a six hour time change between New York or Eastern Time and Hawaii and when I by Yanni got that hit it was around sunset but the Sun Also Rises the Mets have to like their chances going into Game four tomorrow some indecision on the part of the Yankees whether it would be David Cone Denny Neagle they're sending Bobby Jones of the mouth who's been throwing the ball very well labeled well tonight's game was produced by Michael Weissman directed by Bill Webb our same producers Caroline Lee McDermott Maris joy Bob the associate director Larry Lancaster our broadcast associates Derek Manning and Michael Fitzgerald Steve Horn assisting here the booth is always the pregame show is produced by Gary Lang and directed by ray Tipton the Associate Director is Cathy Hunt a broad bands associated Brian Rowe the senior producer of Fox Sports built around the executive producers of foxsports our egg corn and David Hill well down two games to none the New York Mets and of the ball to Rick Reed nine days of rest Reed went six strong innings matched up against Orlando Hernandez who had never lost in his postseason history he was ain't no he's not 18:1 thanks to that hit from betting on biotic later a sac fly from travel and Vanitas is job in the ninth day join us tomorrow night for Game four 8:00 Eastern right here on Fox from all of us here at Shea Stadium good eye the 2003-2006 earrings the 2001 NFC championship and in February the 43rd running of the great American race the Dean from 500 this has been a presentation of Fox Sports Stella's not lost in postseason play going seven and one third allowed 9 hits four earned runs walked three struck out of Lackey tonight his first career loss eight up and one down 2.2 Oh er a phenomenal postseason record look at the Lions floor tonight as the Mets knock off the Yanks four runs nine hits no errors Yankees to eight and old John Franco picks up the win in relief and Hernandez with the feet the save for Benitez Paul O'Neill continuing his tremendous hitting in the World Series now 3 for 4 tonight with a double and an RBI and Robin Ventura was a double a home run an RBI at a run scored looking at that matchup again tomorrow night Denny Neagle against Bobby Jones the Mets using Bobby Jones and hope that he reverts back to the kind of one-hit shutout ball that he tossed against the Giants now the Yankees beat Jones twice during a season in which he went 11 and 6 and they and won seven of the last eight decisions after he'd gone to the minors obviously had some mechanical difficulties right he got them all straightened out obviously he came back and pitch good ball during the rest of the remainder of the season I have no problem with Bobby Jones out there pitching for the Mets he's a veteran he's a the same type of pitcher a trickery you're going to have to beat him he's not afraid to throw his fastball a good curveball good changeup knows how to pitch and he'll go after the hitters much like Reed and that's what you got to do with good hitting lineup so I don't have a problem Nagel now on the other hand is a bit of an inner and he got off to the hot start with New York and kind of got didn't pitch so well in the tail end of the season for them he tends to nibble too much and his Mets can be patient much like the Yankees are in their lineup it was extremely patient you know things that happened at one point Keith as you're well aware Joe Torre actually was enamored about the possibility of starting David grown who obviously had a terrible season but still he's thinking hey we'd get him back at chez where he had much success a big game pitcher who's done very well in World Series play it shows how far down Nagle fell went you think that Torrey was considering going with Cohen who really should show nothing except that one inning against Seattle and Joe made this statement before he didn't say David will start it for three and oh you know where you know they can afford to throw throw David Cone so I think it's also how much Joe feels how important that infinite yesterday was with row today with Clemens throwing the bat that this is the fuel that may fire up the Mets he wants to go for the juggler and not taking any chances and not making of David in much like what happened in 86 why think would McNamara left Buckner out there and again a famous game six because he wanted to do to be out there to celebrate the final out and the Lord knows the ball found him and we the Mets excuse me I won't say that again to RIT the Mets go on and win Game six and go on to the 86 bowl champions I know that we is firmly entrenched and difficult system academics you know as excited but I promise them are you excited out in real Island right and I haven't been this excited in a while so it will be an exciting series now on the subject of Roger Clemens for those who may have missed the news earlier today Clemens fined $50,000 for this scenario throwing the jagged barrel of the shattered bat toward Mike Piazza in Game two and this find matches the largest-ever assessed against the player equaling the amount Albert Bell was fine for his profane tirade in the direction of a television reporter during the 1995 World Series and in a related story Terry Cooney the umpire who tossed Roger Clemens from that 1990 playoff game said that Clemens should have been ejected for throwing the bat near Mike Piazza he said he's never grown up he's a grown man who cannot handle his emotions Cooney behind home plate for Game four of that AL championship ten years ago when Clemens was pitching for the Red Sox oh I agree I agree with Terry I think that he should have been ejected I stated it strongly I know I didn't criticize I want to with Chris Russo today and he has a right to his own opinion and I met with McCarver McCarver felt the game was too important I talked with Tommy John he felt the same way I disagree the rules are the rules and you cannot throw a bat at someone he should have been ejected immediately to me the $50,000 fine is neat nothing it's moot he should have been ejected yeah we talked about this yesterday there on the course of the one-hour special I agree with you I know we had some disagreement in the studio also but I don't think you can change the rules just because it's the World Series whatever the sport I just don't think he can change will and Turk Wendell was here he said if it had been him in that incident he would have been tossed and he is correct you know they agree and also the during the world stood over the game tonight at the broadcast they showed the famous Bert campaneris incident
