welcome back to our Honda build off presented by Continental Tire Dave blew half his Budget on paintwork I'm blowing mine on k-swap parts [Applause] [Music] [Applause] when I did my first case swap into an Integra almost man feet that's a long time to do because there were not so many bolt-on items available uh to put this engine into this chassis and now thanks to K tuned everything is essentially a bolt-on so this hopefully will be a quick task the goal here is to get this engine into that bay and hung by the end of this episode so let's get to work foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] and wow progress has been made as you guys can see we bolted on a bunch of k-tune parts and now what we are going to do is I'm going to strip the valve cover here I really really wanted a k-tune valve cover but I don't think it's in the budget if you guys have watched us strip valve covers in the past you know we had something called aircraft stripper and many of you asked where to get it well I think it's uh it's gone to the the heavens the wind because that stuff probably had some chemicals that you cannot get anymore so this is what we're trying today this is the Jasco premium paint and epoxy remover DP got this from Home Depot so hopefully it'll do as good a job I doubt it but let's just see well uh it's time to peel this and judging by what it looks like right now I'm gonna say it is definitely not as good as the previous stuff we had but nothing oh my God what a waste of money oh you wow look it's peeling a little bit of the paint DP look look got it compared to the good stuff look this is the thing all the good chemicals are like yeah it's like oh what a waste we need to know how many new chemical experts out there what what can you buy these days that will chemically strip something like that yeah like guys let us know in the comments we certainly would love love some advice as to uh what to use but this does say look fast 15 minutes and this is the most expensive stuff that you bought right Dave like that's the best stuff they had at Home Depot but obviously Home Depot's not to go to no no no it is the next day I'm in a little bit early anxious to see if this stripper did anything is that and as you can see it doesn't matter whether it's uh 15 minutes or an hour nothing actually is coming off of this thing all right well what we have done is uh scuffed the entire valve cover here I mean it is what it is I think it's still going to stick we are using the vht wrinkle uh black on here and we're just gonna send it and see how it turns out so first things first let's get a cup you're supposed to get three coats on here and then we'll come in with the heat gun after make sure my my gun works here yeah paint job everyone for a quick and dirty valve cover he's showing a lot of love and care but I know I'm trying to keep my OCD out of this build it's not going to be easy that is that is the key here I do want to make sure that you know Corners are cut but we still want a car that looks good because ultimately I think that's what drives the YouTube views right nobody cares how these cars perform everybody cares what they look like comment if I'm wrong about that that technique seems to work perfectly that heat gun just makes this wrinkle so even certainly a pro tip if you're doing this job always use the heat gun don't let it naturally dry I find it look at it it looks perfect it's so so good this does however have to you know dry for a day or so I will end up zapping this off so let's get back to work on the engine now can I just say that uh the inside of this engine looks mint it does yeah wow somebody did a lot of someone will change it exactly took care of this motor which is a a very very good sign um I am putting on this old dirty valve cover right now just for uh the sake of when we're swapping this engine in we all know what's going to happen if I put that shiny valve cover on it's going to get scratched so while that thing dries this is going to be the temporary unit and as you can see this one has seen some serious serious oxidization it's insane how much this one is Rusted I don't even know what this is off of but uh it is a prime candidate for Powder Coating before we go stuffing a motor in here there are a couple things that I want to take care of and the first one is a puzzling one so you guys guys can see here this is the power steering line and I do plan to go back to power steering just because we've run them in the past with manual steering and they that the case swaps they're just not great so you can see someone has put a rubber line here I don't know if this is a high pressure hose or not hard line but what they've done here is zip tied it on which is to me just absolutely crazy that this would even hold maybe when this was looped they were just trying to close it off so it wasn't leaking that's like the only thing I can think of because I feel like this would blow off instantly so what I do need to do here though is build a new line out which uh which is not going to be great let's see well look you can see this is pretty loose which is already pretty good so that's good there uh the other side though is like right behind here and does not have easy access and it's likely corroded so let's get this thing up in the air and hopefully I can access it so there is no chance I'm gonna get to that rear fitting without actually dropping the rack and uh that's not something I necessarily want to do uh so the other option is to take this line and just fix it from here onwards because I do have a bunch of Hardline here with a lot of swearing and cursing I managed to make this line I hate making brake lines or any type of lines like this it's just finicky it never ever goes well especially when parts are rusted as you can see though with this Loop here man we were super close to the the passport Mount Dave in the meantime did Mount up this side mount here and over here so we are uh we're getting closer we got the little mini oxy torch here not going for the big boy just gonna put enough heat into this and I hope I can break it Loose here you can see somebody tried that's why it is just so stripped out here oh yeah there it goes nice the heat always the Heat all right guys uh we are actually going to delete the brake booster on this car for a couple of reasons first of all this car does not have abs and what we found in the past with boosted brakes and no ABS is that you don't have great feel with boosted brakes and it makes it easy to flat spot tires so rather than doing that we thought it'd be interesting to try hone's uh home developments brake booster delete kit which uh Works incredibly well from what we're told by Grant we've never done this before I have driven cars with just like the booster deleted and this slap back on there and it makes for a rock hard pedal and it just does not feel good but this kit changes the geometry of the whole pedal assembly in relation to the the master cylinder and gives you very good pedal feel without a large increase in pedal effort this modification does require a little bit of work as you can see I had to pull the brake pedal and Grant from honed does Supply this very neat little placement holder you can see this is the original hole for the pivot point and we're going to move it up to here and this is the pilot hole that I'm going to drill right here I'm going to come in with this let's make sure and this will now move it which is going to essentially change the effort the stroke and all of that all right and here we have our new pivot point so let's get this all back in and we'll show you what it looks like to be clear this saw is a lot more work than the 121 dollars I spent the budget seems like a win but uh it is very very cramped in here it's hard to get at stuff um but we're slowly making progress so just be forewarned this is probably an amazing modification however it does take a bit of time and effort and patience most of all patience to get everything in here there you have it our stock 7 8 master cylinder is bolted up to the home adapter there and we should mention this kit is designed to work with a Honda style 7 8 master cylinder four brakes that are at least 282 mil or larger by the way if you want to learn more about brake systems Granite honed recommended this book to me called the break handbook by Fred pun or Fred poon either way I love his last name I don't think it's in print anymore but there are PDFs floating around on the internet so if you want to find it you can find it on the internet and it's a great way to kind of sort out any braking issues might you might have like I was having in Connie Celica which is how Grant and I originally started talking so we've come full circle here Pete gets a break upgrade all because Connie Celica breaks don't work so uh congrats Peak I think now it might be time to stuff an engine in the hole here it's such an easy swap that it's really a one-man job BT so I'm just going to stand back here and watch you do it yeah you are huh yeah it is it's actually remarkable how much space and how easy uh this has become um I remember when originally you know case swaps weren't a thing and then they when they became a thing it it was just weird because the motors look so not at home I'm fine yeah yeah but man for the power and everything else and and the reliability it's just this is a no-brainer going B series is just so wrong uh K is the way man K is the way for power but B is the way for the sound and the feels and that's what we're gonna find out here with this you know B versus K I'm gonna have the horsepower Advantage my car is going to make more power it's probably gonna be lighter I know it's going to be lighter and you know we're gonna see if your limited slip and your chassis the exactly the type R can keep up with with something like this this is open diff so I think that is going to be a huge hindrance but still I think the power is going to make up for it there man look at this without this front uh rad support too it's remarkable Brian of course a passport is the engineer in The Mastermind behind all these k-swap mounts and if you guys are wondering these are the street bushings so the 62a durometer probably bushing they also have like a a medium stiff and a stiff stiff or a race back bushing so you can get it in whatever flavor you want yes all right that is it now comes the test here can we move our little cart ready DP I'm ready things are loose though yes but so hold on oh you put the crossbow through the back I mean yeah let me just tighten down these guys here a little bit so yeah maybe we should tighten some of the bracket bolts before you lower the ah nah let's just see what happens all right we've got faith oh we have a k engine mounted into the bay done look at that God so we get all the room Child's Play Thank You passport thank you Katie I know man everything just fits up I mean like that's a thing these days it's just it's all Plug and Play look at this and it looks good man I'm I'm pumped to put that uh that powder coated uh or wrinkle wrinkle coated silver cover looks good though that's all you know what DP in hindsight I think you're kind of right we could have we should have stayed with it until I've seen the engine bay because you are right there is like a nice theme of silver going on here this is a huge Monumental step it is we have an engine mounted in a bay and uh I am pumped I am so so pumped this is excellent so far you know we have not run into uh BMW style things or rb26 style things this has just been all smooth sailing-ish and look at the amount of room we have to work here yeah like if I need to access anything right now it's just it's here it's here look I've got room here the only thing I find on these engines it's cramped it's just this side here so like even but putting a belt on it isn't that difficult so I think we are going to wrap it here we are at the end of the day and uh that's it guys in the next episode dare I say we might even try to crank this thing I'm not gonna say start it um I am waiting on some parts but uh we may crank it who knows if I can get all the wiring done get everything hooked up and that I think is going to take longer than putting this engine in DP because that's always the easy part doing this it is so it might take us a couple days to get fired up but yep yep yep so anyways guys thank you so much for watching uh if you're enjoying the content certainly think about liking and subscribing and uh you know you'll see some Type R action coming soon Dave's got some work to do there as well foreign
