I own this car. After we were done for the day the IAC valve stayed open. This forced us to idle the car all the way home at 40 mph. This relationship takes both CHEEKS.

This is the best one in a long time. "Cool Dad" needs to be a regular character.

a 401k that will never really pay out in anything but memories

I cried for an era I never really cared for or had much recognizance of.

Too bad the one he reviewed wasn't also a Joseph Abboud Edition.

I've been waiting so long for this review that I made my own RCR inspired review of my regal GS.

I’ve driven enough of them to know that I absolutely hate most GM products. That said, 90s-00s GM reviews are consistently my favorite. They make me so nostalgic for my high school Malibu shitbox.

Hang on a second. I had a 2000 GTP. Same platform, same engine. The friggin grandma car Buick had a boost gauge (albeit kind of bullshit) and the Grand Prix didn’t? So weird. I had HUD though and that was awesome.

hey son your door was unlocked I got sunglasses guess who I am guess who look at me guess who I am I'm cool - try the Buick Regal and talk about just how it found 2000 Buick Regal GS what you're looking at is the most desirable hand-me-down the greatest sleeper of w's first presidential term well Clinton's - because this is a fourth gen Regal which was in production from 1996 to 2004 anyway your grandparents bought the Regal GS as their coffin car the last car they knew they were going to own their savings was planned out including end-of-life care so they creaked into honest a blank and checked GMC Chevy Buick on Hamilton Boulevard back in 1999 during the retail dead zone between Christmas and New Year's grandpa was doing well then because 9/11 was over a year and a half away he wasn't crazy yet dan Rather was on the nightly news and Baywatch was on at any time still so he could peep titty at all hours and he was ready to get a top-of-the-line Buick the best one do he said wheel and deal so the sales associate cranks grandpa up with free Taster's Choice remember this was 1999 before dealerships cared about having coffee I mean nowadays of a dealership doesn't at least have a Keurig you feel cheated so grandpa's there dancing to Chubby Checker music in his head and the associates tears pop pops hip bones toward the best Buick in the shop a 2000 model Buick Regal GS top of the line with the best engine full leather sunroof and power everything and upon hearing power everything grandpa smiles like George Burns on ecstasy and gray seeing this instinctually reaches into her handbag for a fresh set of depends and the sales associate reaches for his gold cross pen but now 19 years later grandpa can't see at night and you are be queefed his old Buick your mom and dad don't know your grandma didn't know and your friends will soon know that you scored one of the best factory sleepers of the past 20 years behold the l67 series two 3.8 liter supercharged v6 240 horsepower 280 pound-feet of torque and if you get a smaller supercharger pulley bigger injectors maybe larger throttle body and of course a tune and you have well over 300 horsepower in a CBS all-star car or rite-aid depending on where you are all the Regal GS does is highway pulls 40 to 80 or 60 to 100 you just mash and hold on all right it wants to jump on ya right there so to get one of those flashes that's all knowing a guy but you'll be disappointed looking at the digital boost gauge here on the dash because it's fake its fake you'll start a pole or your roll onto the throttle and fourth gear and you'll hear the eaton m90 blower whine but the boost gauge will still read 0.0 PSI you are audibly making positive manifold pressure but still hmm nothing on the display then when you pass above the middle rev range and you hear something of an exhaust note the digital boost gauge will suddenly sick go from zero point zero to four point one and dance between there and eight psi I get it i I know what they're doing grandpa never floored this thing and the salesperson never expected him to and thus the salesperson never even talked about the 3800 series - engine apart from its the top-of-the-line engine Tyler - so if grandpa Erikson's cell phone saw the boost gauge acting like a real boost gauge like it was programmed to be real and just dancing numbers all over the place well that would scare him as he drove from church to the Rod & Gun Club and he'd be taking his Buick back to the dealership and waving his extended warranty around the showroom like a windsock atop Mount Washington and while the VIX index is registering 35 but maybe it would end up in the dealership in any way because the Regal GS was made to run on 93 octane I mean maybe the salesperson was smart enough to say put in high test gas or it runs on premium and maybe he'd listen fuel efficiency is adequate for a large car 19 City 27 highway and today this particular Regal GS has 130,000 miles so it's expected the owner Tyler maybe has only another 50,000 miles or so before the transmission goes since he's looked into this and only 180,000 miles is when the automotive Grim Reaper comes calling and unless you have an emotional attachment to it a new transmission is a big ass for a nearly 20 year old car especially something from the early 2000s I mean yeah it's a beater but the GS came with new disc brakes and an improved suspension it's built to be sturdy and persistent like a Souter and a Jane Austen novel but the issue here is a bit weird because of GM history that they'd probably prefer you to forget you see this regal is on the GM's problematic W body platform the very same as the Grand Prix the Lumina the Monte Carlo the intrigue it's a body platform that costs General Motors 7 billion to develop but ended up losing them $2,000 on every car they produced at the bottom end of the platform's lifespan the idea would be to spend the production of 250,000 W body cars across seven GM plants as this would account for roughly 21 percent of the entire US car market at the time but this time was 1984 in the midst of GM's restructuring the car market was gradually shifting in the 1980s away from the bulky gas guzzling station wagons and import knockoff sedans of the decade prior with that said General Motors continued to modify the W body across three generations so that enough improvements were made to keep it financially viable in fact the W platform kicked around for over two decades as it wasn't phased out until the ninth gen Chevy Impala in the early 2010 or 2010 s depending on what we're calling it now 20 teens 2010s GM even continued to produce W body impalas directly to fleet customers until 2016 it's a platform with suspicious longevity sort of like the Regal and this regal has been through a lot after Tyler's grandmother rear-ended another car in 2010 this regal should have really been total then sent to the junkyard but it was decided that they would save the car by redoing the hood bumpers and trunk however when the tech guys tried you know starting the car the ignition switch went out and that ought to have have been when they called it a day I mean that's all she wrote right nope so more work went into the Regal more money poured in to keep it on the road because anybody who tells you a good relationship means both parties putting in 50/50 is lying their asses off a good relationship is 100 100 it's nobody half-assing both parties giving their full ass both cheeks god damn it and god bless her the Regal held on throughout the myriad of repairs to get her up and running again sure the - and the HVAC LEDs went out but since Tyler works at Delfy Delphi Delfy Delphi he managed to get the prince of the circuits to repair them he had to replace the fuel pump and the sending unit and he had to remove the engine cover because GM briefly recalled this regal over the risk of engine fires on the valve cover gasket of course Tyler's grandmother wanted the cover so she just went back to the junkyard and found another one yeah that was one of the sort of tech recalls on the Buick Regal GS hey there could be engine fires so we're just gonna take your engine cover away and throw it away but his grandma's like no I like the way it looks put it on there I don't care catch fire and I know what you're thinking why why would you invest so much into a Buick Regal from the year 2000 I mean I get it it's the Regal GS yes it's a great factory sleeper but this is the year 2000 the n64 was still kicking around for crying out loud it was still that age we're hanging out at a friend's house wasn't a party until you whipped out goldeneye alright guys ground rules and I'm all about say this once we're doing the temple level and I scan and it's gonna be slaps only and I swear if any Neil dick fart munchers decide to pick odd-job I am going to walk over to your house and take a dump on the copy of chocolate starfish that I know you have L depending on how I feel after these Bagel Bites it might just do it regardless of course the beautiful thing about the early 2000s cars is that it doesn't seem as though the car community at large really expects anything from them nobody looks at a Buick Regal GS with anything resembling reverence and by reverence I mean I'm making the money symbol here that kind of reverence because car culture hasn't reached that point yet I don't think so not yet for early 2000s cars for the most part were at the spot in the timeline where well-kept nineties cars are gaining all the street cred and all that should change a Ching and even further back I think old station wagons are earning a place in the hearts and minds of people who miss cars with fake leather upholstery and the windows with glaze that warp the sunlight but who right now has anything green to say about a Buick from the year 2000 it's not elegant it looks kind of dated it has tons of issues you know the seats are comfortable but you slide around weird and there's gonna be come a point where all these swooping - stuff from the early 2000s and the GM y'all sticky buttons in here we're gonna like it maybe maybe but when you take in the totality of the investment here on this GS it's a stock portfolio of work and worry a 401k that will never really pay out in anything but memories and the change between the seats [Music] our finances [Music] is that if I could again vote for Bush
