outward has been around for three years at this point and it's safe to say that a number of people have really helped the game blossom churchy made a youtube channel where he produced some excellent guides click for gameplay exploded with top-notch content surrounding all the different skills and equipment heck even esl made a few walk-through videos for this game but all three of these channels eventually moved on and started projects not associated with outward how then is outward still kicking who's creating the builds who's testing the weapons for the outward wiki none other than the legend known as skooma today we have some really cool tips and tricks that skooma has personally given me to share with you guys why do we care what this bum has to say well trust me he is no bum skooma has been playing outward since it came out and has created some of the best builds in the game a lot of them are in the outward discord but some can be located on the outward wiki he's made everything from shield builds to insanely high damage melee builds but his real bread and butter is gun builds in fact skuma was actually one of the first people to perfect the blood bullet build where you endlessly heal yourself by shooting your enemies in the face i tell you all this to prove that he does know what he's talking about the guy is what i might call an outward pro so here are some high iq tips and tricks that this long time outward player thought might be useful to you guys drop your backpack before sleeping always make sure to take your backpack off before sleeping in a tent or bed not only is it much more comfortable for your character but it actually helps to preserve food much longer food inside your backpack will continue to rot in your sleep if you take it to bed however food inside a off-shoulder backpack will not rot and keep your food and ingredients going much longer than they otherwise would there is some debate over whether or not this process actually stops the decay or just slows it way way down either way taking your backpack off before resting will save you a lot of precious foods and ingredients you might need for later use grenades with a shield skooma was pretty adamant about how good grenades are when i talked to him he mentioned that they aren't used very often for various reasons but one being that people might not know any ways to actually utilize them turns out you can shut grenades over your shoulder while blocking with the shield this lets you bombard your enemy while they plink away your impenetrable wall this works really well it finally gives me a reason to use the bombs that i previously found impossible to hit an enemy with in fact i remember discovering them with my brother and the first thing i said to him was well that sucked not if you use them with a shield they can be really strong just note that you can't actually throw the grenade while holding down the shield button you'll need to briefly let the block button go and then throw the grenade as you're about to block again in fact you can preemptively throw these things press the button while blocking and nothing will happen unblock for just a second and immediately re-block and it will register you press the button a while ago and throw the grenade while you're undercover it is kind of goofy because you barely need to unblock and i'm not even sure you can be hit during this time if you do it correctly but the grenade will only be thrown if you do so if you were depressed before about how bad grenades seemed go ahead and try them with a shield it lets you block almost the entire time and you can keep your enemies close not letting them run out of range of the grenade strategically place your items in your pocket this tactic is mostly for controller players but it applies to us mouse with keyboard users in a sort of roundabout way you can kind of give yourself a ninth hotkey or skill slot if you use your pocket correctly make sure the item you will be switching to is the first thing in your pocket and every time you open your inventory this item would be the first thing you see the controller automatically places a select border around it allowing you to open your inventory and select without thinking or looking this does take some practice at first but if you're running out of space it can be super helpful this will only work with items obviously so switching from say a shield to a gun is where this is probably the most useful it can be done mid-fight as long as you have some distance between yourself and the enemy simply make sure you place both items you will be swapping into your pocket or you may lose them in your bag and die while attempting this for mouse and keyboard users you can apply this by just making sure you know which items are in your pocket in what order that way you can switch whenever you need to use the drum and chime as ranged shields the totems in the primal ritual skill tree are very good they are insane if you choose them as a skill tree but even if you don't you can still use at least one of them as a blocker for ranged combat set it up as soon as you start all your boss fights and it gives you cover to take potions switch weapons or even just chill while the enemy lobs harmless projectiles at your man-made wall you can use one of these on all characters regardless of the build they do more than just this but blocking projectiles is insanely useful and will often save your life if you run out of stamina or something like that starter skills are strong especially push kick and lantern toss push kick and lantern toss are often overlooked by new and even more experienced outward players they're really good and can always be useful push kick literally kicks the enemy decreasing their stability bar by quite a significant amount you can always use this to gain the upper hand quickly and if you hate those hyenas near the beginning of the game this skill takes away the majority of their power then you have lantern toss which does decent damage on top of burning the enemy for a time you can do so many things with just this in fact one of my hardcore runs was just me purchasing a thousand lanterns and chucking them because i could if you don't want to be wasting lanterns all the time just remember you have this in your back pocket and save it for a last resort lantern toss this skill is really good woof this isn't dark souls or skyrim set some traps traps are underutilized in outward they are an essential part of the game because they make your weak character use strategy to overcome difficult opponents trip wires are small light and easy to craft don't become a player who gets frustrated by the combat and then doesn't use the tools given you can't brute force your way through fights at outward most of the time so always take time to assess each fight beforehand and see if you're going to need some extra help from those traps oh and all kinds of weapons and items can be placed in traps you might be surprised to find that there's usually something to shove in those things that will hurt your enemy in a unique way enemies can fight each other this is a pretty simple concept but it can make all the difference the different types of enemies in outward will more often than not want to kill each other just as much as they want to kill you you can actually get enemies to travel quite far just to run them into something you need help defeating the kazaite and the antique plateau are great for this because their weapons apply a debuff and they're pretty formidable foes i managed to walk them all the way to the clock tower from their camp and they took everything out on the way a lot of times there are even enemies in small caves that will attack each other howard is as much a strategy game as it is a survival one you're weak at the start but remember the enemy of my enemy is my friend play it smart and use your enemies as the dumb tools that they really are [Music] dlc regions are great places to go to get good gear and money early on caldera and harmattan were additions to the game and as such they often have stronger weapons or gear you can acquire pretty easily head over to caldera and you can have one of the best backpacks and a decent chakram just by meeting up with the immaculate this is another good time to use traps too you can set spikes up to defeat enemies that might drop better gear for you all while being only an hour into the game i actually have made quite a few guides on caldera weapons and some of those require almost no fighting to acquire on top of that they're often the strongest weapons in the game i'm not saying don't be careful though running into the wrong enemy in caldera early on is almost certain to be the end of you quickly scavenge for the gear you want and get the heck out of there jinx plus bow thing equals sniper this is a pretty nifty tricks goomba told me about that absolutely blew my mind jinx has increased range when you grab the skill hunter's eye from the trainer in berg this increases the distance you can lock on while holding a bow which is very helpful for both players because it allows you to get more shots into the enemy before being spotted jinx however can actually use this skill to snipe with magic from so far away you will need a bow in your hand as well as the skill and you could pick off enemies without ever putting yourself in danger the bow does have to be equipped there's no getting around that but throw it into a quick slot or heck use that pocket trick from earlier and you have the ability to weaken enemies if not right out kill them before you even get into their line of sight just know that the other hex skills that do the damage will attract the enemy jinx is pretty easy to use without being spotted but something like torment blows the enemy up they tend to notice that sort of thing although it doesn't really matter if they notice if you already placed enough hexes it's worth trying out even if you don't want to mainly use jinx it's really strong and super fun to play with and there you guys have it some extremely smart and useful tricks you can use to play outward after three years of playing any game you're gonna know quite a bit about it skooma definitely has the knowledge to offer when it comes to outward and this was just a taste all kinds of strategies and item combinations a lot of us never even thought of try and remember these the next time you play outward and see if any of them help you out along your perilous journeys consider liking this video if you got some use out of it and i will see you in the next one [Music] [Music] you
