I bet you've never heard of this weird monster from Dungeons and Dragons the natural form of this Beast is a gray green lumpy cylinder around 4T high and 2T average diameter a short single leg trails from the main body and has a suction cup like that of a snail two 5ot long tentacles emerge from the top of the body but there are no apparent Eyes Ears or other features indeed the whole creature is a constantly changing mass of rubbery like substance the same color as Bess human flesh and check this out at the beginning of each melee round except the first this creature changes its hit Dice and armor class by one point each toward the values of its opponent and at the same time gradually changing its shape to resemble its opponent's shape gross now there's a small chance that you recognize that monster but in that case I'm almost certain you had forgotten about it because Dungeons and Dragons as a whole forgot about this monster it was first published in the 1981 fiend folio among many d andd monsters that are still popular today the eraka the death knight toxi edap kenu quago and many more even the GI came from this book you're welcome balers Gate 3 that large fleshy nose of yours looks like a mistake but unlike those beloved creatures the monster I described was never published again not in 2E 3E 3.5 4E fifth edition DND or any third party materials as far as I could find and it's not alone it is one of 20 such creatures published in this book that have not seen the light of day since until now and I'm going to share these lost monsters with you because I'm Bob this is where we learn how to have more fun playing RPGs together and since I want to end with the weirdest forgotten monsters you're going to have to wait to hear what the gray green tent iCal Silly Putty monster is all about yeah we're going to start with the most basic boring one that had every right to be left in the dust the club neck described as mutated forms of the ostrich with hard bony beaks you know like every bird and let's be honest Club neck is a straight ripoff of the axe beak another giant bipedal bird published just a few years earlier in the onee monster manual but with that said I do really like this other forgotten bipedal bird the Thor although they are similar to the stor in appearance and shape closer inspection will reveal that the feathers are metallic they are in fact pure copper and for this reason a bird is worth up to 200 gold pieces and I mean if we account for the increased value of copper today plus inflation since 1981 that's an expensive monster AKA The Boiler bird the Thor squirts a jet of boiling water at its opponent in a 10 ft wide 40t long cone for an extremely powerful 4 to 32 damage which is technically only 4 d8 but in 1981 D and D that's a ton of damage so it can only make that attack every other round and only three times per day after which it will attempt to elude its enemies by swimming away which is interesting for a bird or for any creature made of metal and there's a fun bit of lore about Thor collecting and hiding Platinum pieces around their habitat All Around Fun monster and there's nothing stopping you from making up a few stats and using the Thor in your 5e game today so that was a very cool tangent this next one is pretty basic but I'd love to see it come back the gorilla bear it's a gorilla with the right to bear arms baby these monsters have the head and body and legs of a gorilla with the sharp teeth and Powerful arms of a bear why not take one of D and D's most beloved Monsters the owl bear and just remix it the gorilla Bear's main attack is literally a hug basic as he may be I think this guy should be in your campaign and how about the babbler weird mutations of lizard men these are just dinosaurs that can speak in a quasi lingual babbling tongue which defies efforts at analysis and learning by humans and they can apparently understand common but all its attacks are just Claws and biting if this reptile could deal psychic damage with its eponymous babbling I bet it would have stuck around through the additions of DnD D now here's something interesting for your D and D games that you might have seen before scenes from cheku get it see scene these stunning cinematic scenes can help bring your tabletop sessions to life offering immersive visuals that may not only enhance the theater of Mind style of game but also blend seamlessly with the amazing battle maps that have made Chu's main patreon the most popular RPG patreon ever even out of game these scenes are great for INSP spiring new encounters and Adventures and you can check it all out through the link below thanks cheku for sponsoring this strange video about monsters that no one has cared about for about 40 years like the CF fall the name is acronymic of colonial insect formed artificial life an agglomeration of several swarms of insects several hundred, insects to each swarm which come together to form a single Amorphis creature about man sized so while the art is also human-shaped this monster is supposed to be just a huge pile of bugs the strangest part is the note that nuclear energy is what keeps the safal together and much like DND oozes damage can cause these swarms to separate and fly away but it's made clear that this creature does not fly and I think having a flying ooze made of millions of bugs might have lived Beyond this book but I'm not surprised at all that this next one didn't make the cut or ever resurface in D and D 5e wither weed a living plant creature usually found among ruined masonry across doors or smothering a long forgotten treasure chest in the Underworld wither weed is dry and easily burned but doing so creates a toxic smoke and anyone inhaling the smoke must save against poison or die instantly you heard it here kids smoking kills instantly also on hit with its leafy fronds the target must make a deck save and lose 1 D4 points from their dexterity score or half onic success so save against death draining ability scores the Wither weed is truly an old school dndd Monster not meant for modern DN D but perhaps the Wither stench a bizarre relative of the skunk that is pretty much hairless and covered in tiny purple spots which constantly emit a powerful and nauseating odor triggering a save against poison to avoid wretching uncontrollably and leaving victims helpless and unable to defend against the creature's claw attack gross and this next one is one that I probably should have mentioned sooner the Nel not naop the creature displays a most unusual dissociative power which enables it to divide into nine individual Black Panthers and it attacks with this flail likee tail swung over its head in a manner similar to the tail attack of a wyvern I had no idea wyverns were whipping their tails like that over their heads and we got another Cool Cat the guardian familiar takes the form of a small black cat set to guard The Treasure of a high level wizard it will never leave its position on top of the treasure or chest nor does it attack unless it is itself attacked or attempts are made to get the treasure but get this during its attack the creature grows Progressive rively larger and each time it is slain up to the ninth time of course it is instantly reborn stronger than before Just Like Old Ben Kenobi you can't win and the Doom bat is just a giant bat well like almost just a giant bat it has a wingspan of 25 ft and can pick up and carry off objects weighing up to 300 lb but the Doom bat also has a long Barbed tail and what really makes this monster neat is that it's echolocation shrieking can be weaponized to disrupt concentration within 100 ft for 2 to five rounds making spell use impossible and all attacks at minus one no saving throw is permitted against these effects so not exactly fun for spellcasters I'd probably allow a saving throw against it but any monster that forces your players to totally rethink their default strategy is a cool monster and this bat is even more Troublesome the I killer has a bat-like upper torso on the body of a large snake its eyes are disproportionately large and apparently lidless and it behaves differently based on how much light your adventuring party is using no light snake tail attacks only lanterns and torches Death Stare basically a laser beam from the Monster's eyes made by reflecting the character's own torch light and once per day triggering a saving throw against instant death but if you get your light source close enough to the eye killer it will flee instead of using its Death Stare sounds like a really good monster for shadow dark RPG where nobody has dark vision and light sources are critical to survival but speaking of instant death let me introduce you to the tiger fly an almost man-sized wasp with a human head and four arms the human head thing just really gets me but two of these arms are just like scimitars and ser ious Beedrill vibes from this guy honestly a silly monster if it weren't for the fact that a female tigerfly will attempt to grasp a victim sting and paralyze them then lay eggs in the victim's body yeah that's like horrible for a lot of reasons and for your character it gets worse because in 24 hours when those eggs hatch the victim will die from Massive Internal hemorrhaging and the larvae burrow out of their body so while we're on that EX subject we can jump right to the Griff a bird with four to eight legs a razor sharp beak and W now aerial combat maneuver ability of Class B now I have no idea what that means but do look out because there's a 35% chance that female griffs will attempt to Grapple a Target inject eggs into their bloodstream and these eggs hatch in 1 to 3 days killing the victim and releasing one to four baby griffs gross okay this next one is just weird but it's like comically weird this greatly feared Undead creature is a form of a wraith but it is unusual as a member of the undead class in that it in no way resembles a human it appears as a near transparent rectangle with varying Dimensions this is the sheet Phantom yeah the worst ghost costume but actually a monster I guess it drops from the ceiling to envelop and suffocate one target at a time and victims who die are turned into wait for it sheet ghouls but instead of having the ghoul's paralytic claws this ghoul possibly your Dead character can also attack by squirting a fine jet of corrosive acid from its nose come on man who who thought of that one but speaking of enveloping targets let's not forget the enveloper and I quote the enveloper is basically a mass of malleable flesh in the form of a cylinder 8T tall and 3T in circumference why you circumference instead of diameter this guy will take on an approximate human form check out that art and try to punch you to death then if it succeeds its First Act is to fall on the body which in one melee round is totally consumed and my friends worse than ditto from Pokemon or Kirby the enveloper gains its victim's abilities spells experience knowledge their voice their alignment everything I think this is easily as cool if not cooler than a doppelganger and distinct enough that it should totally be brought back into DND today and I want the art to stay exactly the same very similarly we have our green gray fleshy shape changing cylinder from the beginning of the video the imorph coming to an Apple store near you but the details that I love about this monster are these within the creature's body there is a small organ corresponding to the human liver made of a rubbery green substance within the organ is a liquid of similar color which when mixed with water in equal quantity serves as a potion of polymorph self that is so cool and this next one kind of tried too hard to be cool and weird but here we are the tier of FEG a humanoid with three legs arms and heads but only the middle leg arm and head has features and its mouth is on its belly surrounded by three continuously writhing tentacles normally the tiag will shy away from other creatures but its Behavior can be unpredictable and it has been known for a TI to attack a party of adventurers for no reason LOL so random but it is no big deal compared to these final two creatures both so strange in their own ways that I really couldn't choose a weirdest monster between them so here they are in order of Rarity the Magnesium Spirit It is believed that only three or four of these creatures exist having been summoned originally to the prim material plane and stranded there by an evil magic user of high experience level who died as a result of the strain of the summoning their actual plane of origin is a matter of conjecture and their behavior is completely dominated by their need to inhabit the body of a character of fifth or higher level in order to perform the complex spellcasting ritual which will return them to their place of origin and you'll see in a second that the spellcasting is not very complex the Magnesium Spirit appears as another cylinder but a cylinder of White Flame and will immediately flash a blinding light at any party containing humans because for some reason it will only attack humans to complete its ritual then on a hit the Magnesium Spirit drains one level and two points of strength from its Target and begins merging into it after two melee rounds SS of this merging process the only way to hit the spirit without harming its victim is with holy water which damages it and releases the target but if it merges for three rounds and the Target still has at least five levels the spirit will use the body to shriek out its spell which takes five segments segments is that turns rounds I've never heard that before and then the body and spirit will vanish in a flash of light the spirit has gone back to its plane of origin never to return and unfortunately if the target has fewer than five levels remaining after the merge the spirit just leaves the body to attack another character leaving that first one as a Mindless husk and to be saved only by a wish spell then at the end of the description it mentions oh yeah the Magnesium Spirit can only be harmed by silver or magical weapons has 50% magic resistance and Immunity to a bunch of spells so this monster is absolutely for highle characters only and if it kills you it literally takes your character to an unknown plane of existence never to be seen or heard from again and ironically that was the fate of this monster since it wasn't republished anywhere since it first appeared in this book now the last one is far more simple The Hound of ill Omen this creature doesn't really belong in a book of monsters because you do not and cannot fight it it has no AC no hit dice or hit points pretty much an empty stat Block it's much more like a magical effect and specifically a curse that can befall one character should the Hound of Hill Omen appear before your party one of the legendary beasts whose appearance traditionally portend death this creature appears in the form of a dark shadowy Wolfhound 5T tall at the shoulder it appears instantaneously and remains in view only for a few seconds during which time it is only visible to one member of a party of adventurers because of its brief appearance and shadowy form it cannot be harmed in any way and it is rumored that only one of these creatures exists that one character to see it hears a booming howl and the next one to 10 wounds suffered by that character or half the number of wounds if subjected to the remove curse spell will cause quadruple the amount of damage and until all the wounds are accounted for the character may receive no healing magical or non-magical it is said that the Hound only appears if a character has seriously offended his deity for example by a flagrant to act out of alignment in other words don't piss off the game master if you like this video please give it a thumbs up and share it with your group that really does help the channel and you can support what I do directly by joining patreon where you'll also get some really cool rewards like 5e resources and even bonus videos depending on your tier but thank you for your support and keep [Music] building
