hey everyone so today we are going to take a couple of these cinder blocks and put together a quick and simple emergency rocket stove and that we can use for cooking up quick meals when an emergency happen if the grid is down you're going to need something to cook on and this is really cheap you can pretty much do it for free if you've got a four cinder blocks hanging around and we can put this together in literally 2 minutes it takes no time at all so let's jump in and get [Music] started so this project is really super simple and easy I've got four Cinda blocks uh one weird one here that's what we had kicking around we've got all kinds of them just hanging around and I'm going to use a hammer just cuz I want to take one of these ends off so we have a good way to feed the fire and this just goes together so fast we're going to take one of these we'll take this one and we're going to just lay it down flat with the holes on the sides and then we're going to take another one and put it down here on the end and then we're going to take one and we want to knock this end out so we can feed the fire through one end so I'm just going to take the hammer and we're just going to bash it out of here be careful the Rocks fly all right so we've got the end piece off of here and we're going to turn this to face this brick right right here we're going to push it in the best we can we don't want too many gaps but you know we're rough and emergency here and then our last block we're just going to take and we're going to put right over the top and I'm going to put it right about like so so we can feed our plier right in there and go all the way down in the hole so this is it this is your rocket stove it is so easy literally 2 minutes so the only other thing you need for this rocket stove is some sort of grate for the Top If you put your pan and cover the whole you the you're going to put the flame out it's not going to work properly so you need something to lift your pan up so there's some kind of air under here and this is just a cast iron uh little trivet thing we use it on top top of our wood stove just to give it a little buffer from the heat so if we want to turn the heat down basically or if you've got a gas stove one of these also works wonderfully to get that pan up off so there's plenty of air or a cake rack whatever you have you just this one's not ideal because the feet don't fit on there but it will work in a pinch you could put a rock or something or a couple Twigs underneath it just to raise it up a tiny bit if you had a couple similar Twigs just to stabilize it you want to make sure you're getting some air under there that would work and you probably would have to replace the Twigs just about every time you cook on it but that's okay and I've got just a little bit of lint here in a um coffee filter cuz coffee filters are wonderful fire starters as well we're just going to take take our small little branches the smaller the better and break them up to get this little baby started and we're going to stick them right in the top hole so it's going to go right in all the way back to where we have our hole in [Music] here so you can see we've got our little pile of sticks pushed way back and now we're going to take this coffee filter and lint and just stick it right in there on top of those Twigs so we've got that right in there and you can see from the top where we're going to put our grate everything is in there we're just going to pull that lint a little further into the hole let's light this baby up put my matches right on the lint so you can see that in there it's starting to burn and I'm just going to start feeding small Twigs right into the top of this for now once we get cooking everything can go in to the front of the little rocket stove so you want to keep them really small until we get it lit so you can see we got a little fire going in there and we're going to just feed some little sticks into the top until this baby's going really good so to get this going we start with these little teeny Twigs just to make sure that they're going to catch fire and then we just work up so they are getting a little bit bigger and a little bit bigger and the greatest thing about the rocket stove is these are perfectly big enough to heat whatever you want to cook on here you can fry up anything steak whatever anything you can cook on here which is wonderful you do want to be careful with these cinder blocks uh this is definitely a warning I think this is an excellent emergency stove but I don't think it's good for a long-term anything because when these start to break down they can crack when they crack PE little pieces can explode off and you can get hot with a hot con you can get hit with that hot concrete and you want to be really careful of that the same thing with like River Rocks can have water in them and if the flame is touching them they can explode this is pretty safe the first first few times definitely quite a while I know lots of people do this on a regular basis they use concrete blocks but when we purchased our home they had a fireplace in the backyard made of concrete blocks and they were broken and busted and cracked and I just would hate to see someone get hurt so this is a good emergency option I do think that cuz if you got to cook you got to cook and you you just keep feeding that fire through this front piece which I think is great it just makes it so much easier Twigs are wonderful this doesn't throw a ton of smoke it does have some but once you get that fire going good you can put your grate on top today I'm going to use just this gas stove little burner piece they pull right off your gas stove so that's a great thing to do if you have that or I found on this one at the dump so people throw them away and uh once you get your pot on there you're not going to be able to feed it from the top but you've got this side here and you can just push these sticks in as they [Music] burn [Music] [Music] okay so it's been about five or 6 minutes and we have got a full rolling boil I don't have a cover for this pot it would boil quicker with a cover if you have one and you won't get so much Ash in there but hey in emergency Ash is pretty good cuz it helps get rid of parasites if you have any so remember lots of rocket stoves are simple and easy to put together they're great because just little teeny branches you can fit in there and they will cook really really fast the only issue is you have really got to have a good good uh bunch of wood because you have to continuously feed this or the flame dies down and also you want to make sure you have some sort of rack so you've got air coming underneath your pot so that flame can really get going because this just just drives the uh airflow right through this design Works super good for um any kind of rocket stove we've built a whole bunch of different kinds this is just a cinder block one um I definitely don't recommend this for long term because these cinder blocks can be dangerous uh if you wanted something a little more longterm it takes a little bit more money to buy all the bricks but masonary bricks are the way to go and I did a video on how to build a brick rocket stove which again is super simple and only takes minutes and I'll link that up here and that's it for today be prepared crazy things are on the horizon we can see them coming that's it for today I hope you enjoyed this video and I hope to see you next time bye [Music] that's
