[Music] there is a lot of talk in the historical community on the internet about how we should act and what habits we should have to become better and lead a virtuous life but there is hardly any discussion about the habits we already have that are entirely negative for our lives epicus said the following there are two vices much darker and more serious than the rest lack of persistence and lack of high mastery persist and resist epicus knew that the key to living rightly is to persist and resist to persist means never stopping to make an effort and act correctly even when we don't feel like it it means developing new ways of acting that make us better creating good habits is not easy so we need to be persistent the other key is to resist resistance means avoiding Temptations and bad habits that destroy us in this video I will talk about six habits that we all have in our daily lives that we should avoid if we want to live fully and happily before we begin I would be immensely grateful if you leave a like on this video as it helps me spread this philosophy to more people if you don't want to miss any videos subscribe and activate the Channel's notification Bell first stop wasting your time I have this to say We complain that our days are few but we act as if they were infinite senica thought a lot about the duration of life and came to the conclusion that many of us do not truly live we simply exist we waste our time doing things that bring us nothing and postpone what we have to do when we are lazy we act as if we will live forever and do not realize that time is the most valuable thing we have nothing guarantees that you will be alive tomorrow or that you will be in a position to do what you desire in the words of Marcus Aurelius you could stop living right now let this thought determine what you do say and think let this reflection on time make you not waste it and value it as it deserves the first step to living a good life is to start taking the time we have seriously second stop emotionally clinging to things the stoics believe that we need to learn to let go not only physically but also emotionally if you made a mistake in your life do not torture yourself with it learn from it so as not to repeat it again guilt and regret do do not help this does not mean that it is wrong to feel these emotions these emotions help us understand that we acted wrongly but once we understand that we acted wrongly and learn from the situation so as not to repeat the same mistake we should not allow these emotions to continue tormenting us we all make mistakes do not suffer excessively because of them and always look for ways to grow from the error third stop procrastinating Marcus aelius wrote in his meditations the following you could do something good today but you choose to do it tomorrow or in the words of senica all fools have in common that they are always getting ready to begin we prefer to say I'll do this tomorrow instead of saying I'll never do this although many times when we postpone something we never get around to doing it if you have something to do do it now what is the point of postponing something you have to do even if it makes you lazy it is always better to do what you should do now for several reasons the first as I mentioned before is because our time is limited and the second is that rest is more enjoyable when you fulfill your obligations when you postpone something out of laziness you feel guilty and know that you should be doing something instead of resting you do not enjoy the rest in the same way because deep down you know you do not deserve it the worst part is that sooner or later you will have to fulfill that obligation so you have gained absolutely nothing by postponing it few Sensations surpass the satisfaction of a job well done and doing it well implies doing it at the right moment not later fourth stop being a slave senica wrote The Following he is a slave show me someone who is not a slave one is a slave to lust another to Greed a third to ambition and all are slaves to hope all are slaves to fear the there is no more shameful slavery than voluntary servitude senica was right when he said that we are all slaves to something many times we are not even aware of it we forget that to be truly free we must have our mind fully under our control and thus be able to resist the Temptations that arise in our lives the best tool to achieve freedom and master our minds is discipline for some it will be harder than for others but we must all remember daily who is in charge charge us or our impulses or in the words of epicus no man is free who is not a master of himself fifth stop settling for mediocrity strive for excellence every time you do something in your life ask yourself did I give my best if you look back on your life you will realize that in many situations you did not give your best the question is why are you doing something that does not deserve your best and if it does why didn't you give your best ask yourself this question in everything you do and you must always give your best we do not control whether we will succeed in our actions whether we will win or lose or whether we will be recognized for what we do but it is in our control to try our best and give our best in what we do anything else that is not in our control should not matter to us why settle for doing something mediocre when you have the ability to do something extraordinary sixth do not let anxiety dominate you in his meditations Marcus Aurelius wrote The Following today I escaped anxiety or no I discarded it because it was Within Me In My Own perceptions not outside events don't disturb me only my judgment does anxiety does not help or improve you it doesn't even help solve the problem it's just a thought that torments you thinking about what might or might not happen in the future realize that no matter what happen s in the Future No Matter How much uncertainty hangs over your life you have already overcome worse situations before understand that you have the tools to deal with whatever bad things may arise in the future distinguish between the things you cannot control and the things that are under your control and think about the worst that could happen in many cases you will realize that the situation is less severe than you thought do you have any habits in your life that you want to eliminate I I hope to receive your comments I hope this video helps you get rid of habits that we all have in our daily lives and that do not serve us well eliminating these habits and incorporating new ones into your life as I explain on this channel is the path to lead a tranquil happy and purposeful life there are things that are under our control and others that are not opinions preferences desires and aversions in a word everything that is inherent our actions are under our control on the other hand the body wealth reputation authorities in a word everything that is not inherent to our actions is beyond our control this is how the manual or Guide to Life of the famous Greek philosopher begins if you want to live a fulfilling life without an excess of Soul afflictions you must understand that there are things under your control and others that are not our duty is to spend our energy on what is under our Command and ignore what is not one of the greatest problems a human being can face is the opinions and judgments of other people it's practically inevitable to be affected negatively or positively by them if you truly want to avoid being affected you must understand that the opinions of others insults or any type of personal attack are not under your control in the manual of life we learn how to act in the case of being the object of an offense therefore the purpose of this video is to extract the teachings from the famous Manual of life in order to achieve a mental state that allows us to reduce or eliminate all kinds of suffering arising from the judgments of others through seven teachings or principles extracted from epictetus's Manual of life you will learn why you shouldn't worry about external feelings and how to achieve a state where opinions cannot harm you if you're new here consider subscribing so you don't miss out on all the valuable content we're preparing for you number one insults or offenses epicus says remember that he who insults or strikes is not insulted but rather his own judgment that these actions are offensive therefore if someone provokes you keep in mind that it's your own opinion that is disturbing you in the first place try not to be swayed by appearances for once you gain time and calm down it will be easier to control yourself one of the keys to not caring about the opinions of others is to understand that the insult or offense is not inherently harmful the emotional discomfort that accompanies the insult actually comes from how we process that insult when someone belittles you or disrespects you think that this insult will only harm you if you allow it if you react negatively the true worth of a person should be measured by how much they can tolerate negativity unfortunately life is like that at when you feel insulted or offended ask yourself do I want to win or lose do I want to yield to what I cannot control let me draw a parallel with stoicism and Pleasures if we want to stop being influenced by them we must not fight against desire for desire will never disappear the difference lies in how we process that desire if we completely surrender to it or ignore it in this way if you manage not to be disturbed by the insult the satisfaction ction you will feel afterwards will make you someone Superior and capable of advancing steadfastly through adversity surely you're thinking of that time when a negative comment ruined your day or week despite your efforts let me tell you that I understand how you feel as everyone has been in that situation at some point if this is your case I recommend you keep watching as in the next principles we'll address self-control number two maintain firm purposes in this principle we must understand that if we want to avoid being affected by the opinions of others it's as follows if you have the firm purpose of understanding philosophy prepare yourself from the start to be ridiculed and suffer mockery from the crowd prepare to hear people say suddenly he became a philosopher or where does this arrogant attitude come from make sure not to adopt that arrogant attitude and stay firm in things that contribute to your well-being remember if you remain steadfast in your position the same people who used to ridicule you will end up admiring you but if you let yourself be convinced by others you'll be ridiculed twice those who wanted to become philosophers but even if you don't want to become a philosopher this principle proposed by the Greek can be applied to any other aspect of Our Lives this principle is essential as many people neglect their true talents just to please dissenting voices What epic tetus tells us is that if we allow our purpose to be influenced by the fear of others opinions we won't fail because we tried and didn't succeed but because we yielded to the opinions of others we shouldn't interpret this as a failure but as a real problem when a person gives up just to avoid social conflicts or to prevent others from aining about them it's worth persevering even if there is mockery or questioning for a while after all by moving forward you'll be living according to your own nature I recommend you think about this whenever you need to make a decision in your life consider your priorities and understand the true reason behind your choices number three don't worry if someone speaks ill of you don't let the idea of living in dishonor and being nobody anywhere worry you for if not receiving honors were a bad thing then others would have the power to make us unhappy and that's not how things work the truth is that you are only someone in things that are under your control and that depend on your your decisions this principle is indeed very relevant in our days how many times have you done something you really didn't want to just to gain someone's approval especially on social media social validation on these platforms can be like poison to a person we should ask ourselves is it worth changing who we really are just to get a little satisfaction is it worth putting our emotional well-being in the hands of others my answer is clear no I recommend you reflect on this as we've all been caught doing something that embarrasses us but isn't malicious at some point why care if they laugh at you or marginalize you in terms of popularity do you truly believe your happiness depends on how popular you are if you live like that you'll be in constant conflict as your happiness isn't in your hands therefore you'll live in a constant state of tension changing your essence not to lose status one of the main points of stoicism is to care only about what is under your control and become imperturbable regarding what isn't regarding insults remember that nobody can hurt you unless you allow it if someone harms you or speaks ill of you remember that they act believing that they are right to do so it's not possible for everyone to act according to what you consider right but it doesn't seem right to them so if someone judges you based on a false appearance it's them who harm themselves with their mistake therefore tolerate the person who insults you with patience and repeat to yourself that's just what they think number four exercise High control for an insult to turn into an offense as epicus said we must have the same respect for our mind as we do for our body I'm sure you wouldn't allow a stranger to enter your house every day knowing the threat that would pose yet when we receive an insult and process it as an offense we allow that that person to enter our mind and stay there for a few days because then we allow strangers into our mind when we would never let them into our homes to achieve a state where we ignore the negative feelings arising from an offense discipline and self-control must be accumulated apply this to all situations in life including with family when you're angry control that emotion as it will prevent much unnecessary suffering and make you feel more at ease with yourself believe me this will make a significant change in your life number five act according to your best judgment we shouldn't be ashamed of being seen acting according to our principles even if others may form a wrong idea of what we're doing if we're acting correctly why fear others wrong judgment this also applies to the use of social media where we often allow our happiness to depend on popularity or validation from others this leads us to act to please them instead in of following our own path number six don't worry if someone speaks ill of you if someone harms you or speaks ill of you remember that they act assuming they are right to do so but it's not possible to think that everyone would act according to what seems right to you but not to them therefore if they are judging from a false appearance it's them who harm themselves with their mistake based on these principles tolerate the person who judges you with patience and on each of these OCC occasions tell yourself number seven no one can hurt you through this seventh principle we analyze the motivation of the sender of the insult and what it tells us is that we can't expect everyone to act according to what you consider right or according to your world view this way of thinking can be very harmful we should consider the following reflection is it really viable to believe that everyone has the same worldview as you thinking like this is quite naive therefore if someone insults you believing they know the truth about you deeply consider the following you know who you are you know what you think you know why you act and why you do what you do the only knower of the truth about you is yourself so in the case of a stranger insulting you in some way you must ask yourself the following did I act wrongly if the answer is no ask yourself can I enter their mind and understand the reason for the insult it's evident that you can't therefore in the case of having acted correctly and facing ignorance about the motivation of the insult you should be content as you are the person in the world who knows yourself best in the case of having acted correctly you shouldn't carry the burden of regret as epicus said regarding the person who insults you that's how it seem to them to conclude I would like to end with the following lesson from Epic tetus how much longer do you think you'll delay becoming worthy of the highest progress and following the teachings of reason you have already received the philosophical principles with which you should be familiar what other Master are you waiting for to begin improving you are no longer a teenager but an adult so if you continue neglectful lazy and constantly postponing things adding excuse after excuse and putting off the day you will dedicate to yourself life will pass by while you remain ignorant until the day of your death what did you think of the video let me know your opinion in the comments if you're new here be sure to subscribe to Embark with us on the paths of wisdom [Music] goodbye Temperance is the high Mastery of volun voluntarily resisting instead of reacting it is the art of making conscious decisions instead of impulsive ones as the stoic State Temperance is one of the four essential virtues alongside wisdom Justice and courage it involves self-control and moderation recognizing our limits and not letting our passions dominate us it is the ability to remain calm in the face of challenges and respond in a balanced and measured way in short temperance is inner balance the moderation that permeates all aspects of life this virtue is of great importance as it is key to our ability to make good decisions especially Under Pressure to maintain Serenity and mental Clarity and to effectively solve problems if you are often controlled by your emotions whether it's anger or enthusiasm you face a serious issue of self-control which is precisely why we turn to stoicism to overcome this challenge in this video I want to be practical and direct I will present 10 practical ways to apply the essential historical principles to cultivate Temperance as one of your virtues first avoid being led by desires true Freedom doesn't come from excessive desires but from control over them stoics believed that constant craving for pleasure and fear of pain make us prisoners enslaved by our passions rather than having control over ourselves the key here is to make decisions based on what is genuinely beneficial in the long run rather than giving in to instant Pleasures the practice of delaying gratification can be a great starting point setting long-term goals and breaking them down into steps is an effective method to direct your actions instead of seeking immediate rewards remember the journey is as important as the destination if we apply this to any goal we will see a more fulfilling life unfolding before us continue learning and growing philosophy doesn't promise anything external to humans the way to achieve Temperance through stoicism is through constant learning and personal growth stoics believe that the path to Virtue and wisdom is a continuous Journey we often make the mistake of embarking on the path thinking about the destination and reward when the reward should be the path itself you can incorporate this principle into your life by by dedicating time every day to learn something new or reflect on your experiences and what you can learn from them this can not only help you grow as a person but also provide a broader perspective to deal with life's challenges with greater balance and Tranquility take a moment every day to recognize and be thankful for the things you have it can be as simple as having a place to live food on the table or loved ones by your side keeping a gratitude Journal can be a valuable tool for this practice write down three things you are grateful for each day you can also take a walk in nature and consciously appreciate your surroundings develop a mindset of contentment by recognizing that what you have is already enough to bring happiness practicing gratitude meditation can be a powerful way to cultivate appreciation in your daily life moving on from the previous Point direct your mind towards gratitude and let go of the demand that everything happen happens according to your will learn to accept situations as they unfold and find happiness in the way things are gratitude for the stoics is both a perspective and an active practice it empowers us to focus on the positive rather than fixate on the negative remember to express your gratitude in tangible ways like saying thank you more often writing thank you notes to those who have done something special for you or simply taking a moment to appreciate the beauty of the world around you you especially distance yourself from people who pollute your sense of gratitude avoid those who spread negativity and complaints appreciate what you have for True wealth lies more in enjoying what you have than in Desiring what you don't the stoics valued Simplicity and moderation by cultivating gratitude for what we already have rather than constantly Desiring more develop the ability to deal with challenges as senica taught us difficulties awaken genius historical teachings remind us that obstacles and setbacks are opportunities for learning and growth developing resilience is an effective way to incorporate this concept into your life this involves facing difficulties with Serenity and balance viewing setbacks as chances for improvement rather than personal failures developing problemsolving skills and embracing a mindset of progress are also part of the this process as you realize you can learn and evolve from mistakes and challenges adopt a growth oriented mindset to face setbacks as opportunities to mature and learn practice resilience by cultivating skills and strategies that help you overcome adversities live in the present remember that you don't perceive reality as it is but as you are an important aspect of stoicism is the idea of living in the present much of our anxieties and worries stem from regretting the past or fearing the future by focusing on the here and now we can free ourselves from these concerns and maintain calm and serenity developing mindfulness can be an effective way to practice this concept this could involve dedicating time each day to focus on the present perhaps through meditation or simply paying attention to the sensations of the moment to do this avoid multitasking try to do one thing at a time and give it your full attention practice mindfulness through formal meditation or by paying attention to your daily actions and the conversations you have with others practice empathy life is interpretation and the stoics remind us that everyone is dealing with their own challenges by practicing empathy we can better understand others and respond in a way that maintains peace and Harmony to put this into practice you can try putting yourself in others shoes before judging or reacting this could involve pausing and considering another person's perspective before responding or actively seeking opportunities to learn about experiences and viewpoints different from your own by practicing this principle and becoming a more empathetic person you will gradually better understand viewpoints rather than becoming irritated or reacting in a negative and toxic way accept what you cannot change it's not the facts that disturb men but their judgment of the the facts as epicus said this is a fundamental element of stoicism mentioned several times in my videos the idea that we should accept things we cannot change and focus on what we can influence will be crucial for living a Serene life this principle can be practiced in various ways one of them is learning to identify the difference between what we can change through our actions and what is completely beyond our control a very clear and simple example to understand is the weather we can never control whether it will be stormy or sunny so worrying about it is a useless waste of energy instead we can focus on how we would prepare and respond to different weather conditions another way to practice this principle is through cognitive therapy techniques that help us recognize and question irrational or harmful thoughts learning to accept what we cannot change will free us from a major source of worry and allow us to live in a more Serene and balanced way accept your strengths and weaknesses and acknowledge that you are human and therefore imperfect observe how nature accepts and adapts to changes this can inspire you to do the same prioritize your mental health and share your experiences and feelings with trusted friends take small steps to overcome setbacks start with modest actions to overcome them recognize that adversities are part of life and treat yourself kindly during these challenging moments practice Detachment poverty does not consist in the decrease of possessions but in the increase of avarice as epic tetus said Detachment in the context of stoicism means freeing yourself from excessive dependence on external things for your own happiness it's not about rejecting all pleasure or material possessions but not allowing your inner peace to solely depend on them you can practice detachment in various ways one way could be through meditation where you visualize your desires and then imagine freeing yourself from them another way is through simplifying your life reducing the number of possessions you have and focusing your attention on experiences and relationships rather than material things because we often possess more than we may deserve or need by valuing Simplicity and moderation we liberate ourselves from the ceaseless pursuit of novelty and Improvement lastly but entirely necessary is self-care first and foremost you must maintain your body in good condition otherwise the Mind cannot be strong and healthy stoicism doesn't forget the interconnectedness between the body and mind acting as one keeping our body in good shape is a fundamental part of achieving Temperance from exercising regularly to eating a healthy diet and ensuring you get enough rest it also involves taking care of your mental Health whether through meditation therapy or simply setting aside time to relax and engage in activities you truly enjoy remember it's disrespectful not to care for your physical self in terms of both health and appearance find an activity you genuinely enjoy and commit to doing it regularly historical Temperance is a path to Inner tranquility and peace it focuses on understanding and controlling our emotions and desires rather than and being controlled by them through the practice of temperance we learn to live according to our values and respond rather than react to Life's challenges the happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts as Marcus Aurelius said often what we consistently think we ultimately bring to reality here are two more videos full of historical wisdom that I'm sure you'll enjoy until next [Music] time [Music] [Music] Modern Life is immersed in a sea of constant stimuli from cell phones that constantly vibr to the endless social media news feeds we are constantly immersed in a sea of information and distractions over stimulation has become a central characteristic of our existence but are we truly aware of the consequences of this in our lives welcome to the channel and in this video we will delve deeply into the reasons why overstimulation is ruining our lives and how we can begin to regain control the Trap of hyperconnectivity the first reason why overstimulation is ruining our lives is the addiction to hyperconnectivity we live in an era where we are always available always online and this is leading us to exhaustion psychologists have warned about the dangers of this constant connectivity stating that we are distancing ourselves from real conversations and genuine connections with the people around us while they mean is that although we are more connected than ever virtually we are becoming increasingly emotionally disconnected the overstimulation caused by hyperconnectivity has a significant impact on our mental health the constant flow of negative news and incessant comparisons on social media contribute to high levels of stress anxiety and depression psychologist Sher turl argues that this generation is the loneliest of all due to the lack of real human connections therefore the Relentless pursuit of digital connectivity is harming our emotional and psychological well-being to combat this problem it is essential to recognize the importance of disconnection we need to establish boundaries in our relationship with technology and learn to Value authentic human interactions as philosopher Harry noted one who becomes an instrument of Technology becomes its slave therefore the first step to overcoming overstimulation is to recognize the need to disconnect from time to time the torment of constant multitasking one of the reasons why overstimulation is ruining our lives is the belief in the myth of efficient multitasking we believe we can perform multiple tasks simultaneously but in reality this makes us less productive and more stressed neuroscientist Earl Miller states that the human brain was not designed to multitask when we try to do so our productivity decreases and our stress levels increase constant multitasking also negatively affects the quality of our work when we divide our attention among several tasks we cannot focus enough on any of them this results in errors a lack of creativity and dissatisfaction with our work philosopher Arthur schopenhauer said one who wants to be everything can be nothing this reflects the idea that when we try to do everything at once we cannot do anything with Excellence to combat overstimulation caused by constant multitasking it is essential to practice mindfulness mindfulness helps us Focus completely on one time task at a time thus improving our productivity and job satisfaction philosopher Simone vile observed that attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity therefore by giving our full attention to a task we are being generous to ourselves and our work the invasion of advertising and consumerism another reason why overstimulation is ruining our lives is the constant bombardment of advertising we are surrounded by ads everywhere we look whether on television social media or even the streets philosopher Jean Boda argued that we live in a hyperreal society in which the line between reality and advertising is increasingly blurred the incessant advertising promotes rampant consumerism making us believe that happiness is tied to the constant acquisition of material Goods however this Relentless pursuit of more things is leaving us in debt and dissatisfied philosopher epicurus said it is not the rich man but the contented man who is Happy therefore it is important to question our consumption impulses and seek happiness through meaningful experiences rather than material possessions to combat overs stimulation caused by advertising and consumerism we need to develop awareness we must actively question the values imposed on us by advertising and make conscious consumption decisions as Socrates taught an unexamined life is not worth living by examining our consumption habits we can find a more authentic path to personal satisfaction The Dilemma of infinite choice overstimulation is also ruining our lives due to the Dilemma of infinite choice we live in a society where we are inundated with options in every area of life from choosing a product at the supermarket to deciding on our career or partner psychologist Barry Schwarz argues that while choice is a fundamental Freedom an excess of options leaves us paralyzed and dissatisfied analysis paralysis occurs when we become so overwhelmed with choices that we cannot make a concrete decision this can lead to feelings of anxiety and frustration philosopher Jean Paul SRA observed that freedom is the heaviest burden of all in other words the freedom of choice can be overwhelming to deal with the Dilemma of infinite Choice it is crucial to simplify our lives and decisions we must focus on our values and priorities rather than getting lost in Endless Options as The Thinker lousy said Simplicity is the key to True Elegance by simplifying our choices we can find more clarity and satisfaction in our lives information overload overstimulation also manifests as information overload we are constantly bombarded with news articles videos and messages making it difficult to separate what is relevant from what is not we live in a global and information Rich world with simultaneous information streams this inundation of information can be overwhelming and detrimental to our ability to concentrate information overload takes a significant toll on our attention and focus when we constantly jump from one source of information to another our minds become fragmented and unable to delve deeply into any task remember that attention is the rarest and most precious faculty of the Mind therefore we must protect our attention against the flood of information to combat overstimulation caused by information overload we can adopt informational minimalism this involves actively filtering information sources limiting time spent on news and social media and prioritizing quality over quantity as thinker Albert Camu said what is true is what is necessary in other words by seeking necessary and relevant information we can reduce over simulation and find greater mental Clarity lack of space for reflection one of the deepest reasons why overstimulation is ruining our lives is the lack of space for reflection we are constantly racing Against Time filling our moments with activities and stimuli without even stopping to think if what we are doing is good for us philosopher blae Pascal asserted all the UN happiness of men arises from one simple fact that they cannot sit quietly in their chamber this constant restlessness prevents us from finding meaning and purpose in our lives loneliness is often seen as something negative but it is in solitude that we find space for deep reflection in these moments of Tranquility we can contemplate our values goals and priorities philosopher Plato said in quietness and in self-examination we gain insight into ourselves therefore embracing Solitude as an antidote to overstimulation is an effective way to find this space for reflection one way to achieve this space for reflection is through the practice of meditation meditation helps us calm the Mind cultivate mindfulness and create internal space for introspection philosopher Alan Watts remarked meditation is the way to Inner understanding by incorporating meditation into our routine we can escape the Trap of overstimulation and find inner Clarity loss of appreciation for the present moment over stimulation also prevents us from appreciating the present moment we are constantly worried about the future or dwelling on the past leaving little room to simply be in the present philosopher Alan Watts warned life is not a journey but a flow when we are stuck in thoughts about the future or the past we miss out on the richness of the present moment the practice of mindfulness is a powerful way to regain appreciation for the present moment here and now without judgment philosopher Tik Natan stated life is available only in the Present Moment by adopting the practice of mindfulness we can find joy and serenity in the present moment to combat overstimulation and recover appreciation for the present moment we must learn to ReDiscover joy in the simple things in life sometimes happiness can be found in a sunset a cup of hot tea or a quiet conversation with a friend philosopher epicurus reminds us that happiness resides in Simplicity by valuing these simple moments we can find deep satisfaction in everyday life loss of creativity and Innovation constant overstimulation also hinders our ability to be creative and Innovative when we are overwhelmed with information and distractions we have no mental space for new ideas and insights philosopher Friedrich nicher observed only those who are truly free have the capacity to be creative freedom here refers to mental freedom from overstimulation creativity often emerges when our minds are in a state of creative rest where thoughts can wander freely and we are not focused on specific tasks physicist Albert Einstein used to say that his best ideas came to him while taking a walk therefore it is essential to give the Mind time and space to wander and create to recover our creativity and innovation we must cultivate mental Stillness this involves moments of disconnection time for reflection and actively seeking experiences that stimulate our creativity philosopher John Dewey said thought is the key to Truth by creating mental space for creativity we can open doors to new possibilities in our lives lack of authenticity overstimulation also pressures us to conform to societal expectations we are constantly exposed to idealized images of success and happiness leading us to follow paths that are not authentic to us philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson said to be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment finding authenticity amid over stimulation is a significant challenge to recover our authenticity we must embark on a journey of self-discovery we need to question external pressures and align ourselves with our own values and desires philosopher Socrates reminds us know thyself as we know ourselves better we can make decisions that align with our true Essence instead of blindly following societal expectations authenticity is intrinsically linked to Integrity we must act according to our values and principles even when facing external pressures to be different philosopher Confucius said in Integrity you will have many imitators but few followers by living with Integrity we can Inspire others to do the same and create a more authentic and meaningful Society the path to recovery now that we have explored the 10 reasons why overstimulation is ruining our lives it is crucial to recognize the Need For Change overstimulation is not a problem that can be ignored as it has profound implications for our mental health well-being and quality of life the first step to recovery is cultivating awareness we must be attentive to the signs of overstimulation in our lives and recognize when we are feeling overwhelmed philosopher Simone deovir said one cannot live without pain and be indifferent to human suffering by acknowledging the suffering caused by overstimulation we can begin to take steps to change once we are aware of overstimulation in our lives it is crucial to set boundaries we must learn to say no to unnecessary distractions establish schedules for technology use and create space for disconnection and reflection remember that it is highly important to teach people especially children how to use technology to enhance their lives while regulating their exposure to it there is a saying in technology that when the product is free you are the product our attention is being competed for by a multitude of apps and at the end of the day we have no time left to Simply sit and contemplate our own life and experiences but it shouldn't be this way you would be surprised at what your mind can achieve when you let it wander for a moment with Clarity and purpose thank you for watching this far don't forget to like the video comment and subscribe to the channel I'll also be leaving two videos here that you might be interested in watching take care and until next time [Applause] [Music] next [Music] trust is one of the most basic requirements in any kind of relationship be it a friendship a romantic relationship or a family member for this reason in this video I will discuss 10 characteristics of people in whom you can never trust according to historical philosophy first of all to observe if a person fits into one of these characteristics that I will mention observation is necessary however this is relatively easy just analyze the person's speech and actions to get an idea of who they are and what their Essence is therefore making this clear I will comment on each of these types of people and explain why you should not trust them before we start check your subscription to the Channel watch until the end because at the end I have something special to deliver to you stay until the end let's go to the first type of person the narcissists when dealing with narcissistic people historical teachings remind us of the importance of not allowing others Behavior to affect our inner peace practicing indifference toward towards their egocentric actions allows us to maintain our mental peace in the midst of their vanity think about it if a person is always talking about themselves and hardly cares about others they are unlikely to be someone you can trust they only have eyes for themselves and always put others needs in the background no matter who it is you cannot trust narcissistic people because they make their own image the most important thing in the world they don't want anyone to be better or equal to them they are the kind of people who will do anything to enhance their own image continuously and this compulsive Act of Desiring and admiring themselves is extremely dangerous because it's impossible to know what this person is capable of doing to maintain themselves typically these are people who make others take the blame for their mistakes therefore do not trust people who talk too much about themselves and only want to impose their opinions on others without listening to anyone because these are individuals who can harm you at any time to get what they want the second type of person is the gossip stoicism also teaches us to deal with the gossip and Feline words of people historians emphasize the need not to give power to others opinions about us if someone reveals Secrets or shares information about another person it's highly likely that they will do the same to you talking about you and your life behind your back believe me it's almost certain that this kind of thing will happen when someone gossips it's not just a habit but an action done for Pure Pleasure so don't think that just because someone is your friend they won't tell your secrets to someone else don't make that mistake the only only Advantage you can get from a gossip is if you want information to spread in that case you just need to tell the gossip and they will do all the work for you the third type is the person who constantly irritates you when it comes to dealing with annoying or manipulative people stoicism offers us the practice of self-reflection instead of reacting emotionally we can stop and think about how our own perceptions and reactions influence the situation it's one thing when you're going through a complicated time in your life and easily lose patience with someone not because of the person but due to the Daily stress you're under it's a completely different situation when you're calmer but constantly get irritated around a specific person if that person is capable of constantly irritating you it's because they subtly provoke You by throwing ideas that confuse you and feed your doubts subtly little by little in small doses so you can't fully understand their emotional and psychological games believe me people who act like this do it for Pure Pleasure so be careful with subtle little games because if a person can irritate you all the time it's because they're poking you with gestures and words and you don't even realize it the fourth type is the indecisive ones regarding indecisive people stoicism encourages us to focus on what we can control our own decisions and actions it's easy to explain why these people are not trustworthy how can you trust someone who is always hesitating about which decision to make if they can't even set a course for their own lives how can you trust them they are also completely unpredictable because you don't know exactly what their decisions will be since their own personality is not fully formed they are in decisive individuals because they don't have a strong enough personality to act and choose the path they want to follow to be direct on this point trusting an indecisive person is like trusting a child with a knife you don't know what they will do when you're not present the fifth type is the two-faced people in relation to two-faced people stoicism would advise caution instead of worrying about their actions we can focus on cultivating virtue in ourselves you've probably had an experience like this these are people who seemingly like you but spread rumors about you behind your back and this Behavior extends to other people as well so don't be surprised when others speak ill of you one moment they're smiling and being friendly and the next moment they're talking badly about you what I recommend is that when you start noticing this kind of behavior it's better to to get out of the relationship as quickly as possible don't miss the chance to master your emotions the sixth type people who are always involved in many problems historians encourage us to take responsibility for our decisions and emotions instead of blaming luck or circumstances these people live with problems and intrigues they say they have bad luck and for them life is just a punishment every day they claim that a new difficulty arises and each day seems to bring a new Consequence the person is there telling everyone that they don't know what's happening that everything is difficult and so on be cautious of this type of person there's nothing wrong with being suspicious because if a person is full of problems it's not a coincidence it's not the universe conspiring against them but rather the person sabotaging themselves every day they probably make more bad decisions don't learn from their mistakes and probably don't control their own emotions so I advise you to be cautious of this type of individual because if you sympathize with their sad and difficult story to the point of always wanting to help their problem can quickly become your problem the seventh type is people who pretend to listen to what you say in situations where people pretend to listen stoicism would advise us to be assertive and if necessary distance ourselves from conversations that do not enrich us you know that type of person who when you say something and try to share an idea responds with a simple yes I understand and nothing more this can be annoying and even disrespectful the worst is when the person talks about what they want and when it's your turn to speak they simply pretend to listen get distracted with their phone own or agree Without Really caring about what you're saying in other words they heard you but they're not really listening to you let's be honest the minimum requirement in a conversation is that the person pays attention to what you're saying otherwise it's not a conversation so if one day you're talking to someone and realize that the person is not paying attention or Worse starts using their phone while you're talking clearly showing that they're not listening to what you're saying then simply stop talking it's not worth talking to walls if the person is not paying attention or is just pretending then don't waste your time if that's the case stand up and say you're leaving after all you're not obligated to spend your time with people who aren't interested in what you're saying in summary analyzing the different types of people who can undermine trust provides us with valuable lessons in in the Quest for more authentic and meaningful Relationships by incorporating historical teachings we learn to today's anxiety has become a very familiar companion to many of us we constantly battle against constant worry fear and uncertainty as we navigate the storms of life what if there's a way to ease our anxiety and find inner peace in this video we will explore the ancient wisdom of stoicism and how its teachings can help us find calm amidst chaos stoicism is a philosophy that originated in ancient Greece and Rome and its principles have stood the test of time providing guidance and wisdom for nearly two Millennia at the core of stoicism is the belief that we cannot control external events but we can control how we react to them by focusing on what is within our control we we can cultivate inner peace and resilience in the face of adversity stoicism teaches us to cultivate virtues like wisdom courage Justice and Temperance these virtues are not only helpful in navigating life's challenges but also essential for living a good and fulfilling life by adopting a stoic mindset we learn to embrace the impermanence of life and the inevitability of change this acceptance free us from the grip of anxiety and allows us to embrace the present moment with gratitude and serenity one of the most powerful ways stoicism can help alleviate anxiety is by encouraging us to change our perspective instead of being Swept Away by the Whirlwind of our thoughts and emotions we can learn to take a step back and observe them objectively by doing so we realize that our anxiety often results from our perception of events rather than the events themselves this Insight allows us to reframe our thoughts and regain control over our emotional state now that we have a basic understanding of stoicism and its potential to alleviate anxiety let's delve into the minds of three famous stoic philosophers senica epicus and Marcus Aurelius these great thinkers have left behind a wealth of wisdom that continues to inspire and guide people to this day Sena was a Roman Statesman philosopher and playright who lived in the first century ad his works such as letters to lucilius and on the shortness of life offer profound insights into The Human Condition and the Art of Living a meaningful life through his writings he teaches us to accept the uncertainty of life and focus on the cultivation of our inner virtues epicus on the other hand lived after Christ and became one of the most influential historical thinkers his teachings found in works like discourses and idian emphasize the importance of understanding the difference between what is within our control and what is not epic tetus encourages us to accept life's uncertainties and focus on cultivating our inner virtues last but not least Marcus aelius the Roman Emperor and philosopher is perhaps the most well-known stoic his book meditations is a collection of personal Reflections that offer a glimpse into a great leader facing the same human emotions and challenges we all face through his thoughts we will take a closer look at stoicism today we will explore and analyze the top 10 historical quotes from these notable philosophers which have the power to eleviate anxiety and help us find peace in the chaos of Life the video will be a bit longer than usual but staying until the end will be worth it be strong but before we begin if you're not subscribed yet consider subscribing and supporting us this way you help us continue our work of bringing more value valuable content to this space lesson one we suffer more often in imagination than in reality this is a powerful reminder of how our thoughts can amplify our suffering anxiety often arises from our minds creating catastrophic scenarios and terrible outcomes even though these imagined events rarely come true in essence our fear and worry are Amplified by our our imagination leading to unnecessary suffering to better understand this concept let's consider how anxiety works when faced with uncertainty or a perceived threat our brains go into a heightened state of alert this natural response is designed to protect us from dangers but when our minds perceive threats that have no basis in reality we get stuck in a cycle of fear and worry senica's quote teaches us that by recognizing the role of our imagination in fueling anxiety we must challenge ourselves and reframe our thoughts instead of being Swept Away by our fears we can choose to focus on the present moment and the reality of our situation by doing so we expand our perspective and realize that our anxiety often stems from our minds rather than an accurate reflection of reality now that we understand this concept let's apply this historical wisdom in our daily lives we can practice mindfulness techniques such as meditation or deep breathing exercises to bring our awareness back to the present moment as we become more aware of our thoughts and emotions we can interrupt the cly of worry and anxiety thus reducing our mental suffering lesson two the stoic is capable of experiencing pain but not suffering it epicus reminds us that although physical and emotional pain is inevitable in life our suffering is largely a choice this may seem counterintuitive but the idea behind this quote is that while we cannot completely avoid pain or life's difficulties we can choose how we react to them often when we Face pain or adversity our initial reaction is to resist fight or Lament these natural reactions can intensify our suffering prolonging our experience of pain stoicism teaches us to adopt a different approach instead of resisting pain we can accept it as a natural part of life and learn not to suffer from it the key to this shift in perspective lies in our internal control while we cannot control external events we can control our response to them when we accept pain as an inevitable part of the human experience we begin to free ourselves from the additional suffering we create through resistance and lamentation a practical Technique we can apply is called stoic visualization this involves imagining in Advan scenarios of adversity and considering how we would react calmly and resiliently by doing this we prepare our minds to face challenges with a stoic mindset thereby reducing our suffering lesson three if you are distressed by any external thing it is not this thing that disturbs you but your own judgment about it this quote from Marcus Aurelius reminds us that our judgments and perceptions can distort our experience of reality often we blame external events or other people for our anxiety when in fact the root of the problem lies in our own way of interpreting these events our minds have significant power over how we experience the world when we judge or label events as bad or unjust we create a narrative that fuels our negative emotions this narrative can be challenged and Rewritten to apply this lesson in our lives we can begin to question our automatic judgments and assess whether they are based on solid facts or distorted perceptions by challenging our own judgments we can find more balanced and realistic ways to interpret events thus reducing the anxiety they may generate Lesson Four he who is learning to know himself is not ashamed to take as his teacher a man of no learning this quote from epic tetus highlights the importance of self- knowledge in the pursuit of inner peace often our thoughts and emotions are shaped by external influences such as the opinions of others or societal expectations however stoicism encourages us to become our own masters learning to know and control our minds self- knowledge involves the practice of self-reflection and self assessment we must examine our own values beliefs and emotional reactions to better understand who we are and why we react the way we do by doing so we can identify areas where we can improve and grow a useful technique is to maintain a self-reflection journal where we record our thoughts and emotions daily this helps us identify patterns in our behavior and understand our motivations as we gain self- knowledge we can make more conscious choices and align our actions with our values and goals which in turn reduces anxiety related to un certainty and inconsistency lesson five never say to yourself I cannot do this but rather I will not do this this quote from Marcus Aurelius emphasizes the importance of positive thinking and self-determination often our anxiety is fueled by negative and self-limiting thoughts that tell us we are incapable of overcoming challenges or achieving our goals sto ISM teaches us to cultivate a mindset of determination and resilience instead of focusing on what we cannot do we should focus on what we can do and plan positive actions to achieve our goals this doesn't mean ignoring obstacles or challenges but facing them with courage and perseverance we can apply this lesson in our daily lives by practicing positive self-affirmation instead of telling ourselves that we are in capable we should encourage ourselves to take steps toward our goals regardless of the difficulties that may arise by doing so we can cultivate a mindset of strength and resilience that reduces anxiety related to challenges and uncertainties lesson six virtue is the only good this statement from senica highlights the fundamental role of Virtues in stoic Philosophy for stoics true contentment and inner peace come from the constant practice of Virtues such as wisdom courage Justice and Temperance the pursuit of Virtues helps us live according to our highest values and cultivate a sense of purpose and meaning in our lives when we strive to be better people we not only seek our own Improvement but also positively contribute to the world around us a practical way to apply this lesson is to set goals based on virtues rather than purely material or external objectives instead of seeking wealth fame or power we can strive to be wiser more courageous just and temperate in our daily actions by doing so we find a deeper source of contentment and reduce anxiety related to the constant pursuit of material achievements lesson s we do not belong to ourselves our mind and body belong to us this quote from senica emphasizes the importance of recognizing that we do not have absolute control over the external world or the events that occur in it however we do have the power to control our own minds and bodies this means that while we cannot avoid all challenges and adversities we can choose how we respond to them one way to apply this lesson is to adopt a mindfulness practice mindfulness involves being fully present in the moment observing our thoughts and emotions without judgment this allows us to make conscious decisions rather than impulsively react to situations by focusing on what we can control our own actions attitudes and responses we reduce anxiety related to the desire to control what is beyond our reach recognizing that we do not belong to external forces is but that our minds and bodies are under our supervision can help us find a sense of inner peace and resilience in the face of life's uncertainties lesson eight happiness is achieved when you stop waiting for others to change and start changing yourself this quote emphasizes the importance of taking responsibility for our own happiness often we expect others or external circumstances is to make us happy which can lead to anxiety when these expectations are not met stoicism teaches us to find happiness within ourselves rather than seeking it externally instead of depending on others to change we can choose how we react to people's actions and words we can adopt a mindset of acceptance and compassion rather than becoming resentful or frustrated with others by doing this we release the control that others have over our happiness and become more self-sufficient in terms of emotional well-being this reduces anxiety related to the uncertainty of human interactions and allows us to experience a more lasting sense of inner peace lesson nine true wealth is not wanting more this quote from epicus highlights the idea that true wealth is not in the accumulation of material possessions but in being content with what we already have often anxiety arises from the Relentless pursuit of more whether it's more money possessions or success stoicism encourages us to cultivate gratitude and contentment with what we have rather than constantly seeking more this doesn't mean we shouldn't have goals or aspirations but it means recognizing that our happiness does not solely depend on achieving those goals we can apply this lesson in our daily lives by practicing gratitude regularly reflecting on the things we are Greatful for helps us recognize and value the blessings we already have in our lives this reduces anxiety related to the constant pursuit of more and allows us to experience a deeper sense of contentment lesson 10 you need not much you need very little this quote from senica highlights the idea that our needs are often simple and modest and the Relentless pursuit of more can lead to anxiety and excess stoicism encourages us to simplify our lives and focus on the essential instead of burdening ourselves with material desires we can be content with less and direct our attention to what truly matters such as relationships health and self-development we can apply this lesson in our daily lives by practicing Detachment from Material goods and excessive consumerism by making conscious choices about how we spend our time and resources we can reduce anxiety related to financial concerns and the desire to accumulate more things if you've made it to the end of this video you are a dedicated person committed to learning and personal growth the fact that you've watched Until the End demonstrates your your determination to absorb knowledge and apply it in your life keep seeking knowledge and working to become the best set goals based on virtues practice mindfulness take responsibility for our own happiness cultivate gratitude simplify our lives and value what truly matters in doing so we can live with less anxiety and experience a deeper sense of inner peace [Music] since we have the use of reason we are taught the idea idea that we should give share and prioritize being generous over our personal interests but does anyone warn us about the dangers of being too kind and compassionate we live in a world where we don't always receive what we give as it's full of generous people who witness how they empty themselves both financially and energetically through indiscriminate giving could excessive generosity even endanger our own own lives be amazed by the unexpected negative effects that kindness can bring upon you today I will reveal the eight things that happen to you for being too good and introduce four stoic strategies to prevent people from taking advantage of you without further Ado let's move on to number one you will have unrealistic expectations of people the stoics emphasized the need to accept circumstances as they are and and not base our happiness on the actions of others by giving without expecting too much in return you avoid disappointment and practice emotional Detachment leading to Greater peace of mind it's hard for us to be completely selfless in our generosity consciously or unconsciously when we give our all we expect others to do the same when it's us who need something important however you've accustomed people so much to having everything done for for them that they'll take for granted that you can handle everything both in their lives and your own especially your own because otherwise why would you be taking on other people's responsibilities the truth is that your expectations of reciprocity will not be met and what will happen to you is that you'll gain bad mood fatigue frustration and disappointment nevertheless if we approach it dispassionately people aren't failing you they're doing what you should also be doing taking care of their own responsibilities number two people will only expect you to give them something according to the stoics it's important to remember that True Value comes from acting in accordance with virtue and reason not simply catering to others expectations practicing moderation and giving in a balanced way allows you to maintain control over your own action and avoid falling into habits that wear down your emotional well-being you've heard all your life that humans are creatures of habit never better defined humans are programmed to adapt to a routine a way of life and a symphony of things happening around them this tendency to adapt is precisely where the concept of the comfort zone comes from this means that if you get used to giving all the time the beneficial iies of your generosity will expect you to give them something all the time meaning you'll lead people into their respective Comfort zones and they'll stop doing many of their obligations because you'll be there to do them the problem you'll face in this case is not valuing yourself because if you don't it's highly unlikely that someone will look you in the eyes and tell you to think more about yourself at least don't expect this kind of empathetic Act from those you help since they would stick to their personal Robinhood and that would come at a high cost to their lives number three your priorities will be trampled upon the stoics emphasize the importance of living in accordance with reason and virtue setting boundaries and prioritizing our own responsibilities is essential to maintain balance and avoid sacrificing our authenticity and well-being for others if you're giving your all to other people's priorities you may find yourself running away from something within you that causes you pain and fear what emotions do you experience when you spend the weekend alone or return home everyday knowing that no one is waiting for you if the cause of such diversity is the desire to escape from yourself the blow will be doubly hard because on the one hand sooner or later you'll come face to face with your inner self while on the other your bad mood will grow as you begin to neglect your own priorities to attend to those of others self-care is a fundamental factor in achieving well-being before providing Comfort to others you must ensure that you feel content pampered and well taken care of yourself that is never give someone a chocolate without first enjoying one immensely yourself just as you shouldn't offer to clean a friend's house without first leaving yours spot less and enjoying a good movie while savoring a glass of wine you come first then the rest of the world number four you will be seen as weak and treated as such stoicism encourages us to cultivate inner strength and self-control by setting boundaries and practicing self-discipline we can show others that we are committed to our own responsibilities and values gaining their respect instead of being perceived as weak if you're helping too much over time you could be seen as an authority figure in the area where you collaborate with others you may be giving precisely the opposite impression because when you don't set boundaries people start to see you as weak exactly like the antagonist of a leader so much so that they'll turn to you to unload their responsibilities onto you knowing there's no risk of you saying no on the contrary from the the moment you start using this magic word they will begin to feel something for you that they had never thought of feeling respect number five you'll have many butts the ones that only come to you when they need something stoicism teaches us to Value discernment and wisdom by choosing who to help through self-control and objectivity we can recognize genuine people from those seeking to take advantage avoiding compromising our energy in unproductive situations suddenly those who considered you a good friend now start excluding you from fun to turn to you only when they need something if we think about it from a calculating point of view it's not so far-fetched for this to happen to you as people don't usually invite their employees and collaborators to have coffee with them let alone share a beer of course what's happening to you is logical but it doesn't mean it's fair therefore you must learn to manage the strategies to prevent people from using you which I'll share with you at the end number six you'll attract only people who need and never those willing to give through stoic discernment we can cultivate authentic and mutually beneficial relationships people who come into our lives do so in response to the vibrations of our energy that is if we vibrate low we attct negative pessimistic people with dark spirits and non- benevolent intentions on the other hand when our vibrations are high we attract people full of positive energy generosity enthusiasm hard work and joy that's why when we give indiscriminately we lose so much energy that we start vibrating at a low frequency which makes needy people feel drawn to us and even opportunists who have no int ition let alone the resources to help but only come to extract everything they can from us and then disappear so they don't even have to bother with saying thank you number seven you could end up falling into addiction the stoics promoted moderation and self-control practicing self-discipline in generosity helps us avoid falling into addictive patterns and allows us to maintain a healthy relationship with our actions and decisions when scarcity becomes part of our daily lives the need grows and that's the best scenario for falling into addiction therefore one day someone Close to You may notice that you're drinking too much not necessarily mineral water or that you're eating too much or even gambling too much pay close attention to what someone who cares about you might say as your first reaction may be to get angry with them and Shout that you don't have any problems but this is the most typical reaction of people who are so immersed in their own problem that they're unable to recognize that they have one always remember that people who care about you only want what's best for you so take their observations very seriously because they're there to help you stop falling and move forward number eight you'll raise suspicions stoicism encourages us to act virt ously regardless of how Others May perceive Us by focusing on living in harmony with our principles and values we build a genuine reputation that is resistant to unfounded suspicions as much as we'd like things to be different the truth is that genuinely kind people are not abundant in this world therefore if you are one you'll raise suspicions instead of admiration and gratitude it won't be long before you display your kindness for people to start wondering what's going on with you and what hidden intentions you have that you don't reveal to anyone this means you've encountered a group of distrustful people not necessarily but it's more likely that they're being realistic most overly keened people tend to hide such macabra intentions that it's best to stay away from them and give up the help they want to provide now let's look at the strategies to prevent people from using you Strate y number one listen to your feelings they are talking to you based on the stoic idea of self-awareness pay attention to your emotions and feelings the stoics believed in the importance of self-reflection to understand your reactions and needs by listening to your feelings you can identify if you're giving excessively and emotionally exhausting yourself allowing you to adjust your focus and find a healthy balance how do you feel when you help others thinking about yourself and prioritizing them is such an altruistic act that practicing it should make you feel like you're walking on clouds so if you feel overwhelmed drained of energy angry or used it's time to listen to your feelings if something to which you have no obligation causes you so much discomfort it's necessary not to deceive yourself so you can discover how the help you're providing affects your well-being strategy number two lose the fear of the word no following stoic teachings recognize that your time and energy are valuable and must be consciously and balanced allocated saying no in situations where you feel overwhelmed or when the request is unfair is a way to exercise self-control even though the word no is associated with negative behavior and pessimism it's normal for us to struggle to say no however negativity is what will become our life if we don't develop the ability to say this word when someone demands more of us than we can give practice in front of the mirror and convince yourself that it's the only way to regain your freedom and avoid unnecessary and potential risks strategy number three there is a time and a space for you respect them following the stoic principles of self-discipline and self-respect it's essential to set aside time and space to take care of yourself do what you enjoy doing practice yoga draw listen to music while having a cup of tea whatever motivates you finishing your obligations as soon as possible so you can practice this is something you should take very seriously as seriously as scheduling this time daily or weekly therefore if someone asks for your help during that time they must be very respectful and Cooperative with yourself not with the person so without remorse you tell them no and enjoy that time and space just for yourself if you don't want to be so abrupt you can offer your help for another time but always make it clear that your availability will be limited because you have a life to attend to strategy number four identify energy vampires and distance yourself from them following stoic principles of self-discipline and discernment it's important to recognize which relationships benefit you and which can emotionally Drain You by distancing yourself from people who constantly drain your energy and don't contribute it positively you're taking care of your own well-being and applying stoic self-control in your relationships if you're trying to help an energy vampire you should know that it won't work these people overwhelm you with their complaints their pains and their catastrophic view of Life forget about helping them they don't want to solve their problems because then they would have to stop complaining that's something they wouldn't tolerate in conclusion according to stoic wisdom in life the best measure for things is always the middle ground and generosity is no exception if we give too little we come across as selfish and greedy while if we give excessively we end up completely drained of energy time and probably money as well so lean towards the Grays which are still the preferred shades when it comes to finding a balance between prioritizing others and ourselves and when in doubt always remember the magic word no especially
