2 Days ALONE on a REMOTE River!! (I ran out of food)

foreign [Music] ever feel like you forgot something after a quick stop at DG to get a long sleeve shirt to protect my sensitive skin I think we are finally ready for a two-day River flow fingers crossed we didn't leave anything important so let's go the plans to float several miles I don't know it's like 14 as the crow flies I don't know how many River miles that is but it's a long ways I do know that I got a little food I'm definitely gonna have to catch some food we got a lot of things to check off the to-do list thankfully they're all pretty awesome well step number one's up here aside from actually just getting on the water I want to get some cut bait to mix in with the live bait it's funny how often flatheads seem to prefer cat bait not all the time but it does happen so I would like some fresh cup bait if I can get it we have some great I think I might have said we had some bait already because we do have some bait but we're gonna need more bait because we're gonna be out here for a while I saw some stuff swimming so it makes me pretty optimistic I'm sure a lot of them are shiners which will go right through this net so some of them might be shy they're starting this back back corner looks Shady to me we're gonna throw it just the cheater way because it's a little nut oh she's Tangled there we go hopefully we get some big ones and we have nothing all right I said I hope we get some big ones I hope we get any see nothing shinier than that I wonder if they bailed out of here because the water is dropping like a rock definitely a possibility I wouldn't blame them okay not a great start maybe I should have brought some night crawlers that might come back and haunt me so we have so much room for so many things nothing I will throw by the kayak nothing shiny no bueno all right I'm gonna walk over there and probably go up to my knees in the muck but you do what you got to do okay this is where I'm seeing the carp so hopefully this is where the shatter at where she's getting Mucky fast something moving around out there other than the car kind of got it to open anything negative Ghost Rider the muck is getting Mucky I suppose it wouldn't be muck if it wasn't Mucky that was a pork chop you know we're gonna keep moving yeah looks like like we might get wet hopefully hopefully nothing comes of it we'll see I got here's a little oh pull it down there's a little pull off down river with a little like enclosed shelter thing that I can hide in I gotta get there it's not too terribly far though I think the trick will be getting there right before the storm rolls through that way I maximize fishing time [Music] you caught me checking the radar good timing weatherman still says zero percent chance of rain I'm getting skeptical because those clouds are like racing at me we've got a big gust of wind I can hear it looks there ain't like a tornado I'm gonna get to the bank check things out pull out my reindeer not what I expected on a day was zero percent chance of rain yeah I get wigged out by severe weather probably for good reason every weather station says we're good there's some flash flooding up North but still says zero percent chance of rain here checked a couple other apps in the local weather station so I guess we'll keep trucking on it's not like I I mean it's one crappy thing about kayak Mission at least on Rivers like this is something pops up kind of kind of on your own I guess the wind switch from the southeast to the Northwest instantly temp drop five to ten degrees I guess the upside is this wind will help get us to our camping spot quicker we're going to stay positive and such I doubt the video is going to show up but when that front pushed through it was gnarly zero percent chance of rain just checked the radar we're gonna get pounded not once but twice by the looks of it I'm just hoping there's not much lightning and I'm hoping it's over quick we're almost to where we want to fish so I'll get the I think we're gonna beat it there and then pull the kayak up on the bank and get ready to hide somewhere I hate storms I hate getting stuck in storms there's that one little pull-off spot like I don't know five miles upriver I should have stayed there but I would have stayed there I wouldn't have time to make it here and then I would have been floating here in the dark see how she shakes out okay we are where we're gonna camp I'm still not sure what this storm's doing I'm definitely not a meteorologist or really an expert at anything so that makes it tough to figure out what's going on but it doesn't look wonderful they bumped us to uh 35 chance of thunderstorms now I don't mind the rain although it would be kind of annoying because I had dinner plans involving a campfire but it's that lightning I really don't like so fingers crossed we don't have to deal with that but it's looking like it's probably going to be an hour away or so which is weird I don't know I'm gonna get stuff set up though it's kind of funny that the one day I didn't bring a tent I think there's like no chance of raining lesson learned I do have a tarp so I'm gonna make me a little enclosure out of the tarp had a minor freak out because uh I couldn't find my tarp I must have packed it a little too well it's just a small tent tart um it'll kind of sort of cover me and a halfway stake it down might be upgrading to a larger tarp for these types of things oh man I'm an idiot sometimes that'll be fine you don't need a tent you got so much stuff already it doesn't rain in Iowa anymore yeah I think we're going to tie some some string to the ends and then stake it down that way there I can get some width and elevation and whatnot it won't be the end of the world as long as we don't get struck by lightning that's that's the only thing that really matters by the looks of it there might be some lightning so I just tied at the end made a little Loop or not so I can tighten it up as needed I think that'll be sticked down pretty solid we'll do the same thing to all four corners and then probably use this bigger beefier stick for the center one the beaver conveniently chewed that into a nice pointy end so it can cut through my tarp but you know is what it is should have had a bigger tarp maybe should have took this out of the package maybe should have brought a tent I don't know man you live and you learn hopefully to go get this put together or whatever you want to call put together and then uh let me suppose we should get some baits in the water I mean we're here might as well try to catch them [Music] Maybe I don't know what it is about this stretcher River but it seems like the times that I've been caught in the rain have been here you had all these intentions of a nice campfire I'm gonna go look for firewood but might be eating a cold dinner because I don't want to wait that long at least the mosquitoes ain't bad she's a little saggy we need to fix that I don't know if you want to call that progress or not I will say there's a chance we could make progress from here because there's a lot of upside this might be the last time I ever just bring a tarp or maybe I'll learn the finer points of tent tarping obviously I don't know them just bring a tarp and you'll save room no big deal it ain't gonna survive no 50 mile an hour gusts but it is a roof over my head probably reinforce it with some other stuff but sore for now let's get some baits in the water I guess one upside through all of this is I do have wonderful baits and then oftentimes this nasty weather gets the fish moving probably gonna throw him medium and then uh we'll throw bobber out let it drift down a ways and they throw a chunk of Cup made up closer okay about three foot not too bad not too good but it's better than the storm Outlook I'd probably just leave if it was practical but I am like I don't know nine ten miles from the closest build ramp so best case scenario I could get there I paddled like crazy two hours storm be over by then I don't want to get caught on the water so it's kind of a lose-lose I guess it is kind of fun listening to the turkeys gobble at the Thunder though I have some pretty substantial lightning right there once again looking for the silver lining of the situation have I mentioned I don't like lightning just hit that point of eerie calm I don't know what to think of it I mean we're talking about things that are out of my control so I shouldn't think too much of it that's a good sunfish might go with him right there that one bull head out put one Sunfish under a bobber and I think I might even hook him through the no hook him through the back as I said hook him through your lips so I could put a little more oomph on the cast but still be able to send her good enough we will see there we go it's definitely in the danger zone I'm just going to let her drift a good long ways we'll say one thing to keep in mind is you got a reel that puts out a crap ton of drag like this does it's that spool size shrinks drag goes up so the more line you let out it's never a bad idea to check it and back it off that greeny is just begging for it well I'm gonna eat a cold dinner might as well be a good dinner my mother-in-law was nice enough to pack me up leftovers we got some ribs some beans and tater salad yeah I plan on warming this up over a campfire but I don't know it's not feeling a campfire at the moment plus this this will be really good anyway yep pretty good they're pretty good I mean really good time to sit and see what the weather brings and maybe the fish like me was about two miles away most of it's to the Northwest is sliding Northeast fingers crossed right now he might actually be there oh Pokemon just a little guy oh we're getting infested with the little guys I think the water is coming back up though so hopefully that'll bring some big fish in with it damn schedules all over the place that damn schedule wow skunked that sucks that is the nature of the Beast I suppose but still kind of sucks also sucks because now we have no food no I have a breakfast bar I guess foreign not totally surprised that we didn't catch anything here with the water dropping the way it did that wasn't planned here's a dam up River and I don't know if they did maintenance but they shut it off like off off for a short amount of time the water probably dropped a foot in an hour or more then came right back up but I mean they still eat I just don't think they roam as much when that stuff happens and it happened it's okay though the task at hand though is we need to catch something to eat those ribs were good so now they're gone perhaps some trail mix but I don't want to eat trail mix for dinner it's been done but you know it's not my favorite okay [Music] well that was quick no idea how he missed the hook he pulled it down with rip and drag and then he was just gone I thought he broke off but he did not heard that don't let me smacked it it's funny you fish all night right over there then you make a cast into the hole a minute and a half Wham Rod gets smacked that was a good one I don't know how it good but you'll never know I have no good explanation why I didn't get the hook except maybe he just wasn't as big as I am imagining he was right now oh hey do I have them I'm not sure what's going on I thought I had him then yeah there he is oh he's in the Sticks still there yep he's still there is he gonna come out though he ain't bad we need him because I'm like I said earlier I have nothing to eat these little flimsy rods are fun but they 've been situations such as this can't really bully him very good we'll uh I'll reel in the other one then we'll get on the back side of them oh I think this is a decent fish he's not ripping Dragon the sticks but I do want to see him stuff is moving angles are changing be really cool if it was well that'd be really cool if he just comes out we'll start with that I don't even know if he's on there anymore yeah who's on there was optimistic there for just a second that he might actually come out change angles something came off oh he broke off man if I didn't have bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all that's moderately preventable because playing around with the shy gear looking for a dinner fish and the sticks but I can't get over how Rowdy the carp are I don't know if they're spawning or what that's what I was going to talk about earlier when that fish hit it's pretty entertaining other than some of very some very aggressive base dealers there's nothing really to report for a while tried to catch some bait was not successful we're gonna keep chipping away I mean had some bad luck and all those things but figure if I stay after it long enough something Good's bound to happen at least I like to think so this is the last of it I have no more food after this even though I missed those two opportunities there hasn't been very many opportunities for the amount of time I've been out here like those bites last night pretty sure those were turtles reeled in a couple bullheads out there guts ripped out and stuff like that so it's been slow imagine the Falling Waters probably the main culprit but when things are slow you got to take advantage of your opportunities and I have not if I don't figure it out soon I'm going to probably be going to bed hungry we actually have dinner I can keep them on it's pretty nice come here never been so worked up over the channel cat in my life but it's been a while since I've been this hungry too you sucked real good he is in the boat yeah I pulled over here I've been mostly fishing Flathead type water and I'm like I need something to eat real bad hoping for a channel cat and channel cat was cooperative enough to hit that's about the only way they're Cooperative but I'm gonna get him on a string or get down to the sandbar down river where I'm thinking about camping and get him cleaned so I quit beating me up we made it I'm really hungry but I've been hungry for like five hours not gonna like die of starvation or anything but I'm glad we're here I'm glad we have something to eat and I'm gonna get a campfire started and get everything cooking the carp are Rowdy hopefully the cats are Rowdy too we'll see I'm gonna fish as long as the weather allows not hangry yet but I'm pretty close probably would depend on who you asked if I'm hangry or not well there's fire stuff in here somewheres okay there's a lighter firestarters these should make quick work of and we'll be cooking in no time still gotta clean that catfish I guess I also have to do so I suppose I should get that done well we have fire fire in I think it's uh Let's uh let's season some cats I need another plate everything set out we're gonna do blackened today with the butter I'm not sure it's any better for me but it'll be a nice change of pace either way if I have enough seasoning I hope so and the seasoning I use I just Googled fish black and seasoning and uh it was one of the first ones that came up I don't remember exactly which one but it's comparable to the rest and it is good it would normally be much more liberal with the seasoning but I need to make sure we got enough to go around everything on this trip seems like yeah we're gonna have enough sweet I thought we would I mean I knew it the whole time just enough let that fire burn a little bit more we'll get the cast iron on there and some butter sizzling and I'm excited probably would normally wait a little bit longer but normally I'm not this hungry probably said that a million times but no woe was me I've just worked up quite the appetite and I'm ready to eat like two hours ago oh score I have tortillas I forgot to add tortillas I also have a dirty pan I forgot I had a dirty pan don't have a ton of paper towels so probably should uh be careful over using those we're gonna have some crunchy fish all right it's all part of the experience right be moderately crunchy need butter see how soggy this butter is it's pretty soft we're gonna make it work mainly because we have no choice there we go that might actually work got some clean plates clean Forks I think I will uh I think we're gonna put them on a tortilla blackened fish sandwiches basically stuff's happening a plate for the tortillas I pin it down with a stick not too windy it was windy earlier but uh right now it's just windy enough to blow your plate away if you're not careful all right I'm gonna add the fish finer parts of frying a fish I feel pretty good about finer parts of blackening fish I'd probably leave a little bit to be desired okay we got some Sizzle though usually sizzle's a good thing tuck that in on the side right there I did make these extra fiery which I'm kind of a fiery guy at times and I but I and I definitely have fiery taste buds not too fiery but you know I have my moments things are cooking and things are going good got one Bullhead out over there right now I'm gonna add a couple more looks like there's supposed to be storms around midnight so I'll keep an eye on it and odds are and probably gonna bug out of here you know and around 10 30 11 got an hour float back so I'll have me a midnight paddle and be nice to head back with about a 30 under my belt but we'll see I think we are about done with round one oh yeah definitely done you done looked done to me all right last piece try and put a little more butter in there I guess I should have done it before I threw the last piece in but here we are not the most sanitary operation in the world but that's pretty standard for me I will use a paper towel to wipe my hands off though let's try this out it was pretty hot yet I think it's awesome it's hard to tell for sure if it's awesome when you're out in the middle of nowhere and you're really hungry but uh in this moment for sure it's awesome and I bet even if it was in the kitchen we're dripping one perk of being out here if it if you drip who cares but I bet if it was indoors it'd still taste pretty good I have a feeling I'm gonna go from starving to stuff yeah that's good that's definitely good well it's been a while since I've been punched in the mouth like the flatheads did on this trip it's probably for the best in the long run you know keeps you grounded and I don't know keeps you hungry I guess it's dorky and sports cliche as that sounds it's kind of how my mind works but yeah we'll figure some things out and hopefully retool and be back out here and catch some big dogs but hope you enjoyed the video anyway I really do I mean it's not my best performance but hopefully there was some entertainment value even though the special guests didn't show up I really
