Eddie George of the Oilers attempt one giant leap toward the coveted prize while the Seahawks Ricky Watters stands in the way Tennessee Steve McNair dreams of a playoff shot the Adams Joey Galloway strived for postseason glory the wild car chase is on on CBS [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] golde and rainy outside the Kingdome 42 degrees but it's warm and toasty inside it's the NFL on CBS for today the Oilers and Seahawks try to keep their playoff hopes alive the wild-card race in the AFC it's going to be a dash to the finish the Jets crushing Carolina as we speak we've given them their eighth win and look at Tennessee at the bottom still in the chase at six and five afternoon everybody welcome to Seattle I'm Gus Johnson it's do or die time for both of these teams in theory the playoffs began today for the Oilers and Seahawks that's because neither team can't afford a loss joining me now as always my partner Steve Tasker and with all of that in mind can you believe the Seahawks have decided to start a new quarterback today well Warren Moon will not be playing for the Seahawks today because he has led a stagnant offense in the last six weeks of the season and it's invoked in the National Football League to use a backup quarterback as a catalyst today the Seahawks hope that that catalyst is Jon Kitna he the young accurate passer with a lot of mobility and he's going to get a chance to use that mobility today because Jeff Fisher and the Tennessee Oilers are going to use a lot of exotic looks defensively they're going to try and confuse this young quarterback into making a lot of mistakes now Jon Kitna handles those exotic looks is the critical question for the Seattle Seahawks today and Dennis Erickson in his fourth season as the head coach he's on the hot seat here in Seattle with all of the great free agent positions the team made during the offseason this team was expected to do much better ministy has won the toss and they have elected to receive the football and Todd Peterson joined the kicking for Seattle nine touch back on the season and back deep Mike Archie who's averaging 21 yards per return fresh off a lot last week to the New York jet a very disappointing loss 24 2 3 their 6th and 5 on the season Seattle 5 & 6 they lost to Dallas last week 30 the 20 dude [Applause] [Music] the 22 yard line special teams tackle made by Fred the year Sam Adams replaces dance Talia Moore who has a hamstring injury along with Kennedy and Daniels and the linebackers here's over to the middle because Dean wells is injured Landing season and Shawn sprains is playing with an injured knee force on abstain from the 30 spoon [Music] Danny Joel breaks it back George running hard a felony thumbs up and makes the tackle for the Oilers everything starts with that guy right there Eddie George if he gets the running game going as he has in their successful streak of three game winning streak a few weeks ago everything the play-action pass becomes a big part of their offense and Steve McNair really really has the pressure off of him if Eddie George can get it going second down and seven from the 35 yard line one of only ten handed back to Nassau history to rush for a thousand yards his first three seasons [Applause] and it looks like Michael Sinclair may have jumped offsides [Music] Michael Sinclair zone infraction number 70 on the boiler players and they said you know we had a good run we started to have a lot of success Steve McNair has really played well but the reason has been the offensive line in Eddie George have really gotten on a roll here the Midway stretched through the season and that has enabled their entire office to open up and now they can call a lot of plays at this point of the season so we're having trouble getting into the Dune early on their winning game was struggling Center missed the first three games he's come back and offensive line coming towards again that'll get the first down Eddie first down Andy Robinson with the tackle and what a fun guy to talk to Ricky Watters he has no problem telling you what's on his mind he really doesn't in fact he said he was really one happy about coming to see our selling do they have a lot of great pound on this football team but they threw the ball constantly last year and he wanted to come in and they told him when he came in as you can see only ones that know that the play was actually a fumble it happens soak so fast and so close to the ground the rest of the team that was spread out the both teams that were spread out all over the expect it your body is just you can't brace yourself against it Gus and that's the reason that sometimes a hit like that will be just as serious as one that looks a little more vicious and Jeff Fisher who was on the field tending to Denard Walker lost in all of this is the fact that his team actually got the ball back from Asher scoring opportunity to the Seahawks had and now you the the teams have
