So my dad, uncle, and grandpa were all at this game My great grandpa papaw buck died the Saturday before listening to Tennessee whip up on UAB on the radio in his chair. He was a WW2 vet fought in guadalacanal and lost an arm working on the roads going through the smokies. He loved Tennessee went to all the games throughout his life and had season tickets in the end zone “to see the blocking lanes develop”
after his funeral on The Thursday before the game my family went to the game in honor of him. And swear the vols beat Arkansas for him.
I was there. It was so shocking it took us a long time to register what had happened. Honestly I'm still kind of shocked. I believe there's a certain amount of luck built into anything monumental like a national championship - I just wish we could have a little bit more lately!
I was there. Top row of the upper deck, just under the "S" in "VOLS". I remember looking outside at the thousands of fans leaving with less than 2 minutes left. I remember seeing the Arkansas QB stumble and lay down the ball. It was like a fucking light from heaven was shining down on it. I ripped off my orange raincoat and began waving it around, celebrating, hugging strangers around me. It was an amazing experience.
I was there! Started to walk out of the stadium, turned around to see the fumble! Ran down the concourse and was standing at the goal line to watch UT score! One of my favorite memories!
I was there too! Remember that fumble and that feeling so vividly still! Had great seats in the student section....like Section G row 15. My roommate had given up and went home, but I was determined to stick it out the end. SO glad I did!
Jr year. Sat behind the band and flag Corp. Most of the game was so lousy that I was chatting up one of the flag girls. Got her digits, and dated her until the end of the semester. All in all a good evening!
I'm glad everybody has fond memories of this game because mine is sitting in QQ soaking wet having refused a poncho because 11 and stupid.
