next on CBS sports the NCAA basketball championship hi I'm Patrick Swayze now they say that some teams don't have a ghost of a chance of winning the tournament but I guess that's why they play the game it's March Madness [Music] and I get everybody I'm paddle Brian along with my partner Mike Francesa and this is as clean as this desk is gonna look like that's about it it's supposed as fair to say let the madness begin I've heard that before so much is up in the air here in the metropolitan New York area snow is in the air tomorrow believe it or not spring will be in the air a lot of office pools are up in the air and soon there will be plenty of basketballs in the air 64 teams are poised and Mike what is your traffic report on the road to the final pool you know Pat I think about the enormity of the tournament this is my eleventh the CBS one is thought it was really a tournament for the basketball die-hard now it's a tournament for the country from the office pool to the college campus enormous excitement everywhere everyone wants to know who's gonna win the gate nine game in the southeast I mean that's what it's become it's become a huge event and we have the best seat in the house we certainly have the best seat in the house and that means you do to upset the day for you we've got action happening across the country today we begin in Cincinnati where Miami of Ohio meets North Carolina in Southeast region play David Scott to earned his reputation as a super sub led Miami to the mid-america Conference tournament title for the Tar Heels Hubert Davis is their go-to guy he paced Carolina with a 22 point per game average in Greensboro east action begins in the region there with LaSalle and Seton Hall Randy wood the 3-point bomber and 5th leading scorer in the nation guides the Explorer up and see some player folks and Terry the hair comes in for Seton Hall Terry and a pirates he's on a quest of a 23 game streak which he has scored in double digits and then approximately 10:00 Eastern we'll have our late doubleheader games Eastern Illinois versus the Hoosiers of Indiana UConn against Nebraska Northeast Louisiana versus Southern Cal and Iowa against the Texas Longhorns and that is a lot of basketball what are the keys and he's opening round you know K Pat I don't care if you're a 1 seed and you're playing Campbell a Mississippi Valley State or whomever you may be playing you have to get that first game under your belt that is a key for any team in this tournament Duke included and four teams that have struggled into the tournament like a UConn or teams that haven't played well you can gain momentum in the first round if the shot drops if a foul shot doesn't go in for the other side you can gain momentum and get on a roll in the tournament doesn't matter how you've played if you have talent and you can get on that roll anything can happen and you'll watch it happen throughout the first round and how in awe are these smaller teams or the big teams like Miami of Ohio they watched North Carolina on TV every day I would be hope they don't line up and ask for autograph at a look at how March Madness is sweeping the nation as the road to the Final Four rolls on from New York just talking exciting this is and as we approach tip-off to tourney time we find that we're not the only ones who are putting our normal lives on hold exclusive coverage of the first round of the NCAA basketball championship is sponsored by Baby Ruth I'd do anything for my baby baby woo State Farm Insurance like a good neighbor State Farm is there and by budweiser the king of beers who reminds you friends know when to say when [Music] Riverfront Coliseum by the banks of the Ohio at downtown Cincinnati the first round southeast regional game Miami of Ohio against the fourth seeded North Carolina Tarheels tonight top seeded Ohio State takes on Mississippi Valley State followed by Nebraska and Connecticut our second game here Alabama against Stanford but we begin with horsie to North Carolina against 13th seated Miami of Ohio good afternoon everybody I'm for a lung twist along with Len Elmore North Carolina comes in with its proud tradition 18 consecutive years in the tournament 21 and 9 when this year but they're slumping a little bit well certainly Verne in the last nine games they've lost six of them and they've given up an average of 86 points now that's not a winning combination there for Carolina they're big they've got three seven footers on their roster they're gonna have to utilize that size the way they have in the beginning of the year if they're going to be successful in this tournament North Carolina in the Final Four last year from Miami of Ohio under second year head coach Joe be right they have not made the tournament since 1986 but they come in as the Mac champions and they have won nine in a row well there's certainly a good team a better team than a lot of people thought they weren't expected to win the mid-america conference but I'll tell you one of the things Joby Wright told us is that his team has to play the North Carolina team that's on the floor right now they can't be intimidated by that aura which includes the Michael Jordan's and the James Worthy don't look at the name on the uniforms look at the players face here the starting lineups Gregg Michaels Matt Kramer John McKenna Scott Beaulieu and Jamie mercury Oh for Miami of Ohio George Lynch Henrik rhodol we'll start for Brian Reese for the Tar Heels Eric Montross at Center Hubert Davis who has been on a sensational streak in the last eight games Derrick Phelps are in the backcourt there's Hubert Davis a 30 point average over the last eight games the officials for this first game in Cincinnati David Hall from Lakewood Colorado Dom Lopes from Hazlet New Jersey and rich Sanfilippo from Millburn New Jersey these two teams have met three times all in the early 70s North Carolina has won to Miami of Ohio 1 McKenna Montrose in North Carolina controls Derrick Phelps has it in the backcourt number 14 picked up immediately by Scott velu [Applause] Henrick brutal entry pass to Montrose the double down and marvels hit spittoon and gets their big people started early they've been to 11 straight final 16 appearances in the NCAA tournament and the way this team is going to get there is to get their big people involved Miami of Ohio much smaller team than as North Carolina but they do that outstanding 400 shooters as Craig Michels number 22 McKenna who is not played well of late [Applause] [Music] the focus that's what's gotten them to this point was being a very accurate three-point shooting team now Phelps the roto and dr. Lynch that Kramer drops off Lynch [Applause] and Baloo with the rebound to Miami Ohio they lead it 3-2 for perimeter shooters on this Miami Miami team none of the starting five averages and double figures their top two scorers Miami of Ohio is a good defensive team who have only given up about 61 points per game and a lot of it has to do with the way they control the tempo as I mentioned that's what's backing them to be champions of the Mid America conference good defense and good judgment on offense Hubert Davis rebound comes into the hands of Craig Michaels and Ballou brings it up for Miami of Ohio 3-2 opening 90 seconds of the ballgame Southeast region from Cincinnati the number four seed North Carolina Tarheels against 13 seeded Miami Ohio well there's not that much of a shooter it was Matt braver North Carolina extends the point of Defense [Music] mechanically Matt Flener shot clock now at ten Mercurio front three no short quick outlet pass in the rebound Hubert Davis does not have the numbers he'll pull up and go from the set offense Lynch to 4:3 North Carolina leaders well when Carolina came up in one two straight in Atlantic Coast Conference tournament it was George Lynch as much as anybody else who got them in good shape he's become more active offensively and again he's a post player who needs that three-point effort is off the mark so they one of five the Spartan three-point range nice that [Applause] is a helping defensive team joby right he doesn't mind the comparisons to Bobby Knight Joe be right being an assistant under Bobby Knight for ten years as well as a player his team has to help out a lot they really don't have any size inside that was a good example of humming the weak side Brian Reese is then with the game down of the 31 for these pests North Carolina Terry Tar Heels this Reese [Music] 16:54 hillford Phelps nice empty pass people Davis went and shot up and in 1970 when Charlie Scott was doing it all for the Tar Heels you have to look back that far to find a Tar Heel player who averaged as many games per season and Hubert Davis averaging 21 for the season almost 22 but 30 in the last eight games and a lot of great players came in between there we mentioned a couple of women at the beginning of the telecast Michael Jordan James Worthy Sam Perkins you go down the line [Applause] the three nope the judges they will keep putting it up though like that my auntie continues to miss [Applause] one award those of you who are standing by the watch the South Seton Hall will be going to Greensboro from the start of that game not to do for a gift of 25 minutes after the hour so going down to Greensboro for some up news shortly one of six through three point three now from Miami of Ohio by three Kramer takes it to the corner and we've got an injury timeout Mercurio is down for Miami of Ohio Jamie Mercurio the senior from Maumee Ohio 1550 remaining in the first half of play will check on the mercurial injury in a moment most people know State Farm sales that was a little bonus coverage there from Cincinnati just underway Miami of Ohio in North Carolina Miami up by three right now and just underway as we said we're gonna send you all out to the east region for LaSalle Seton Hall what about this game at Seton Hall is very good at playing perimeter defense they're very tough inside they're more physical inside and bigger than LaSalle with South to stay in this game is gonna have to rain those threes two big guys woods and Hurd have shot six hundred threes between them if they put them down they stay in the game if they don't they won't did I introduce you by the way Mike franceska my partner here we're gonna send you out to the east region Greensboro Coliseum calling the game for you Mel Proctor and Dan Bonner tourney time here on CBS enjoy the game [Applause] and welcome to Greensboro North Carolina we bring you one of four first round games in the East region as the four seed at Seton Hall Pirates made the 13th seed the LaSalle explorers later tonight the nation's top ranked team the defending NCAA champion the Duke Blue Devils will be Campbell University but up now it's Seton Hall and LaSalle hello everybody I'm Mel Proctor along with Dan Bonner and we're looking forward to seeing the LaSalle Explorers Dan who put up over eight hundred three-pointers as a team they feature one of the leading 3-point marks on the country and Randy woods now in fact they take 42% of their shots from beyond the three-point line and this guy is the major one by himself he's taking almost as many threes as the entire Seton Hall team and obviously when you take that many you're going to make a lot of them and you can see what Randy woods has done with his scoring this year a tremendous scoring machine this evening all pirates have several big names like Terry to herand Jerry Walker but I know you feel maybe the key is the defensive stopper Gordon Winchester a sixth seventh senior one of the best defensive players in the Big East and I'll tell you why he's the key LaSalle is a two-headed monster there's Randy woods and Jack heard he's going to have to guard jack herd now let's take a look at the starting lineups for today's game the keys as Dan mentioned Randy Woodson jack herd to three-point specialist Seton Hall with an outstanding backcourt brian tabor and terry to hair the officials Jim Stupin from Cypress California Bill Kennedy from Phoenix Arizona and Paul castor from Omaha Nebraska as Jerry Walker the strong inside player it does a lot of the dirty work sets picks rebounds grabs loose balls really a key to see Paul's success milk ol Everest of LaSalle jumping against our tourist finish abyss of Seton Hall Jack herd is up with it into Randy woods in a quick LaSalle basket the style sets up in his own defense Dan the South plays an awful lot of zone a two three manage up to here misses a three-pointer the salad like to get it up and down a little bit Seton Hall extremely strong and to have sport defensible Seton Hall playing a man to man you see woods quickness but a fine block by brian tabor and it's out of bounds to the explorers gaber has the task of chasing Randy woods around the floor today and he's going to have to chase him around - because LaSalle runs plays to get the three-point shots they're not a 3-point shooting team off transition necessarily so cavers going to get faster in here comes woods and here comes the three the hare runs it down that is blindsided and to finally get Jeff Neubauer of LaSalle he is starting in place of Paul Burke who is normally the starting point dark but he underwent an appendectomy just two weeks ago he isn't uniform and probably will play but Newbauer started in the conference tournament look for Seton Hall to try to get the ball inside against the zone the way you have to attack this zone valleys you've got to get the ball inside either with the dribble or the pass and then operate inside okay back [Music] Misha's the cognition is for free forgive Arriba pitchers duel two to nothing with sound with the first any great he is something he hit 117 three-pointers this year and it's five to nothing with South PD Morris the sales coach said we want to take 20 good three-point shots Walker trying to work inside there's not much there and he throws it away could see very clearly how the LaSalle defense collapsed around Walker he was lucky he didn't lose it on the dribble but that's the idea you've got to penetrate the zone and kick it out however when you kick it out you'd prefer not to throw it to speedy Morman seat the halls three-point different defense is excellent they've allowed the opposition only 30% shooting from that range Kurt misses the three the PJ Carlesimo says I really can't account for it doesn't make special to stop the three but we've done a good job to here scores for the Pirates and they're finally on the board it's 5-2 LaSalle a Seton Hall can get it up and down here really a fine player in the open court they're putting pressure on to power woods moving about the ball trying to get open he buries another three he's fun conscious caver looking around wondering what the heck is going on what a quick dribble and the hair steps out of bounds the second turnover by the Seton Hall pirates but speedy Morris has to be pleased he wanted to get the threes Woods has already hit two of them there's speedy Morris and I'll tell you how tough Randy woods is he made that three-point shot went down the court and he really popped Jerry Walker and Walker had something to say to him about Walker knocks it away but it's saved by Milko levers this is Braun hollow inside their herd before Papa Bunny's wars in milk Oh levers cancer baseline jumper LaSalle has jumped out to attended to leave surprise surprise Casals shops are going in the basket in there an awfully effective team when that happens now the key for Seton Hall is they've gonna figure out a way to solve this deep Walker surrounded on the inside and he is fouled by Lausanne broad public change that Milko levers picked up the foul the sales frontline is not very tall they're in size in terms of height there they go just about to see him to see them all but they are big big guys along that from Jersey City New Jersey she really doesn't have a true center walkush the closest thing they have and he's only six seven he is a tough tough guy [Applause] 10 to 4 LaSalle PJ Carlesimo at his 10th ear as the Pirates head coach they went 21 and 8 this year the biggies regular-season title got the state gun Georgetown and then lost to Syracuse in the Big East tournament fouls called on Jerry Walker now you can see the results of Randy woods three-point activity you got to get out there and guard him and so he takes what the defense gives him he goes backdoor he's only about six feet tall but you can see how powerfully bill he is he doesn't mind taking it to the basket woods off to a good start with 8 points including a pair of three-pointers led his high school ball at Ben Franklin in Philadelphia school was produced cool Richardson at UCLA now with the Minnesota Timberwolves Paul Graham who plays to the Atlanta Hawks Bret Mad Dog Carter now an assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers they all went to Ben Franklin I guess you don't get a name like Mad Dog if you saw an error mischievous pounds it inside the Winchester and another turnover as he stepped out of bounds Simo really struggling that's three turnovers now against this matchup zone defense they really are struggling trying to figure out how to get inside full-court pressure by the Pirates now they back off they are trying to put some pressure on new power just recently moved into the starting lineup places Falkirk good hands tied to hair but Randy wolf is there to grab it and a Baylor southpaw and we get a break in the action with 1549 for nothing in the first half it's 11 for LaSalle back in Greensboro Coliseum where LaSalle leads by 7 PJ Carlesimo called this his toughest first-round matchup ever what he wants Brian caber to do to stop Randy woods is push them beyond the three-point line make him shoot from 20 to 23 feet Mel well so far Brian Kimber hasn't done a real good job Wesley a Woods has already scored 9 points he's hit to a four three-point attempts pent LaSalle leaves 11 to 4 things right on schedule and here's woods racing caber for the loose ball team Hollis get it going gallon got to get it going on the offensive end of the court male their defense has not been that bad LaSalle is going to knock home some threes but Seton Hall's got to get some points the hair misses a three-pointer jacquard with a rebound for the Explorers not really very much offensive rebounding so far for Seton Hall woods moving without the ball you like to bring it off picks leavers moving out would that great quickness into broad highlight work showing his versatility second the conference in assists in addition to leading they Mac conference and scoring what quickness off the dribble my goodness my initial mistake sit inside and he draws the foul as loco Lieber's hit him on the arm Labor's the senior from the Netherlands leave us got him but leave us got him after woods did his corn issue has started the penetration woods took a whack at him and so Randy woods is gonna pick up the pop that's the first foul on would say to the 13 5 game definitely has a little international flavor though local levers from the Netherlands Arcturus tradition is from Lithuania and number 51 for the salad named Holland but he really could be from the Netherlands but he's mad he's from Bangor Pennsylvania Brian hall thoroughly confused you know not hard with me male 13 6 was sound trying to change the pace of the game a little bit with pressure from Seton Hall they nearly got one that's pretty good idea you try to press if you steal the ball you don't have to play against that set zone defense bird guarded by Winchester we have some great girls with a leak Celia st. John's in the Big East this year turnover by La Salle the hair leads the fast-break on the pull-up and it looks like the Pirates are finally awake it took them a little while to get started they're still struggling on the offensive end but they've tightened up the defense and sometimes your defense can start your offense and that's what Seton Hall's been getting the hair now that's a foul against the hair Jerry the hair picks up the reach-in foul that's his first and the second team foul on Seton Hall [Music] [Applause] ray Schultz checks in for LaSalle replacing Holland 13:58 remaining in the first half a sound leading 13 to 18 Jack heard for three quick release doesn't he he sure does but Gordon Winchester was right in his face that's a tough shot that's the kind of three that DJ once LaSalle the take Winchester goes baseline they have to back him out the hair club with the pass away they have catered to hair in the back court pernicious Winchester and Walker up front and Bryan Hammer connects on a three parter he made only 18 percent of his three-pointers during the season so he's really not supposed to be a threat out of it and Randy wood was playing off him and he made would pay for that turned up the defensive pressure they're really switching the screens a lot more right now jacquard misses a three woods gets it and he scored 11 points for Randy woods who came into the game averaging 27 the Festing NCAA this year here for three he calls not getting many second shots wood so that blinding quickness but he dribbled off his foot that's kind of scary to death though your Brian Hamer guarding woods in the open court Tabor really was unsure of just exactly which way Woods was going to go later tonight it'll be the defending champion Duke Blue Devils against the fighting camels of Campbell University at Texas Iowa matchups going to be a good one Seton Hall has no offensive rebound so far down and they really haven't had any shots from the inside Leahy number 34 Seton Hall in the game he's a three-point shooter Curitiba scores for the Pirates and it's 1513 LaSalle four points for our tourists pernicious male that was about the closest shop that Seton Hall has got begins to settle down defense little jumper just short of the free throw line Randy wood comes up short and a chance for the Pirates to tie and three would give them the lead seat the Hall of joining nine two to run over the last two and a half minutes the shy will have to watch Leahy number 30 at great three-point shooter tremendous stroke [Music] need to move that zone around a bit when you're attacking this zone you've got to go inside and come back from side to side you're not really going to get very good opportunity shot clock is down to 10 seconds so the Pirates have got to look for a shot Walker Pharaohs inside and he's called for charging glare control foul on Terry Walker that's his second foul the baggage inside washer has to recognize what is the good opportunity the defense collapsed Winchester was alone in the car [Applause] it's 1513 lasalle midway through the first half from Greensboro it Boise Idaho Georgetown of South Florida we'll get the West Region underway and later it'll be the third seeded Florida State team against Montana BYU will try to stop the keel O'Neal and LSU there's the full-court pressure by Seton Hall and they take the ball it's now five turnovers by the staff and Seton Hall's pressure defense on the full court has really been a factor in this first half now they loot the right number 50 is in the game now received the Hall Gaulish Blair seek no injury at seven to caver with a three parter he's hit killed over those first time for all six of his points and the Pirates take the lead and interestingly enough Seton Hall has been forced to the perimeter by this zone defense and they have converted from the perimeter ball Burt number 23 in the game a point guard for LaSalle whoops puts up a three you can fly it over the last four minutes got off to a fast start with nine points in the first four minutes traveling is called on Terry to hair the fifth turnover there's big Luther we mentioned that he had come into the game still a bit of a project they think he's going to be a great player he's got nice hand a soft touch suddenly got cold that's the danger for LaSalle they shoot an awful lot of those threes all of them are not going to go in the basket so LaSalle is going to be a very streaky team they've only scored two points turnovers has been a big story each team forcing some and being able to convert save the hall has Brian camber and cherry two here in the backcourt with Luther right arturis curtisha vez and John Lahey up front [Applause] [Music] [Applause] my instruments call for travelling another turnover the seventh by the Seton Hall Pyrus blitz Wooten checks into the game for LaSalle and Danny Hurley the younger brother of Dukes Bobby Hurley is in the game for Seton Hall he's just the freshman PJ I'm sure is concerned about the turnover seven of them so far by the Pirates interesting lineup in the ball game defensively from Seton Hall Lahey the three-point wizard is gonna have to go heard he can trick 20 wizard for the day her with the quick-release going to three that's the man chef I was talking about you take Winchester out of the game play he's not known as the defensive player and heard squeezes one off 22:16 LaSalle nine minutes remaining in the first half [Applause] what is it about this LaSalle zone at Seton Hall fine so confusing is when he puts up a three and walk around the ball at Walker and that's the first offensive rebound with beat Paul Walker converts it to two three matchup zone is something that LaSalle plays very effectively and they show you a little bit different front depending upon where you are whooping Brian came have seen them all are good friends they were high school teammates had before stood high in Trenton New Jersey Walker in DeLuca right [Applause] shake action and he draws the foul from Danny Hurley he's really unbelievable in the open court beneath the right Walker was an excellent aspiration what's called verse number 23 actually blocks that shot Burke will be telling his grandchildren about that I blocked the shot at some 7-foot guy and right starts out down the court if you were asking about the LaSalle zone one of the things that they do is they work very hard in the zone and Paul Burke showed you're right there blocking the shot on nuclear right Wow Latika Columbo is checking the game for the sound Randy woods got off to a fast start but it's totally three points over the last seven and a half minutes he now has a total of 12 he's going to get his points in spurts no because all of a sudden that thrilled start to fall and it's a great shooter you keep putting it up as if you've missed four or five because if I run into a streak where you're gonna hit four or five in a row Sal goes to the 1/2 quart pressure just trying to disrupt Seton Hall a little bit change the pace of the game and plus you've got a freshman in the basketball game woods commits his second foul that's a big call right there and the fourth team foul something we've not addressed Seton Hall plays in the big 8 where they used a sixth foul rule only five fouls allowed per player in the tournament what effect will that have on the planet I don't really know that it will have much effect you'd think that it you know they pretend to be foul thrown but I don't think once what the steal we've just shown you on aspects of his particular game he's got 15 points [Applause] together half-court trap by the LaSalle explores Seton Hall look a little unsure against it - hair nice pass him to Jerry Walker for the jam nice job Walker starting to operate inside at six now the team the Seton Hall has on the floor is not a particularly solid ball handling team and I think this is a good move by speedy boys to go to the track [Music] the big man wood little reaching foul he's the one that LaSalle can ill afford to lose but he'll have to come out I would assume [Music] Jib on CBS paddle Brian back in our New York studios we're gonna keep an eye right on this game I'm gonna be able to see this game in the top left hand to your screen and show you what's going on elsewhere around the country in Cincinnati Miami of Ohio and North Carolina Mike Francesa is here to talk about that game Mike Miami of Ohio has stayed in this game outside the three-point line they picked five macario's hit four and that's really kept the Redskins in the game if Carolina's patient they can do whatever they want inside Montross eight points if he gets it down low he's all kinds of problems for Miami my apologies 32:26 get over there the Tar Heels hop on top five four out of the Midwest Mike and Milwaukee Murray State and Arkansas Arkansas up by four with 11:55 in the first half and they've talked about the Popeye Jones Oliver bill a matchup inside down in the low box area Pat that this game will be decided by the tempo of the game if Murray State tries to go up and down the floor with Arkansas they will not be able to play them for 40 minutes so tempo will decide this game you can't run with this often saw a team for 40 minutes I don't think that floor inside could hold those two big guys the whole concern for the Pirates here no waiting right now and even right now the concern for the south speedy Morris has his key guy Randy would already has 15 points with three fouls that's something to watch as we come to the half in that game our iron men out there a Mel Proctor and Dan Bonner back to you guys all right thanks guys and speedy Morris has rolled the dice a little bit Randy wood has three fouls but speedy is leaving him in the game and you're really right it is a roll of the dice because he can pick up a foul on the offensive end just as easily maybe more easily the defensive end we have 525 remaining in the first half wood shot the salad believed with my foot boy he has 15 total Steven Holl seemed a little rattled but don't defenseless I'll use but they have recovered steal by woods he puts up the three but nobody there to rebound so it's 2420 lasalle with five minutes left of a half I think this is an important stretch for Seton Hall they really need to capitalize on the fact that LaSalle big gun is it foul trouble punch it inside see what they can do Jerry Walker feat Brian caver nice dish and Jack herd picks up the foul well as we mentioned Randy woods was hot early hitting the three-point shots Lozano has cooled off as a team they're three for 12 three-point range Woods has 15 points but he also has three fouls although Seton Hall has 10 turnovers the sound really hasn't capitalized it's got only six points off those turnovers Winchester sneaks it in the block which won't and got it the outlet the woods so time for Randy woods who has 17 points now Wow Derrida hair has been shut down this first after Seton Hall he had a great tournament last year averaging twenty four and a half points a game but he's been real quiet so far one thing that Seton Hall hasn't done a lot of they did it one time and it works for them to get the ball to one inside and you bring somebody opposite into the lane hair with a fall away and his 26:22 loose I'll carry to Harrow averages 19 a game has only six points and you would not want to make a living if you're PJ Carlesimo with shots like that that was a tough tough shot Taber [Applause] Luke the right board is tightrope act great hustle by movie I'll make it men Daryl fibbs uses the game now we've talked a lot about the skills of brandy woods from three-point range that's behind the Bacchus breezes what's carried to hair the hair goes the other way what a great great moon in the southeast region in Cincinnati the top seeded Ohio State Buckeyes will be Mississippi Valley State later tonight for that Alabama Stanford game is an interesting matchup did you catch Alabama coach whip Sanders his line he said of Stanford apparently thinking they should be seated higher if Stanford is a 12th seed that I'm a left-handed ham sandwich that's a mouthful if you're gonna need a left what sticks inside the score off the inbound Randy what with 19 first-half points and the Sal leads 2822 and the Pirates are so concerned about his freakoid marksmanship that they're overly him lanes to the basket and he's taking them John Lahey number 30 in our Taurus tradition is number 55 are back at the game perceived Hall three minutes remaining in the first half seemed homers big offensive military the hair has been left out Bryan haver penetration scored at eight points now for Taber but the hair only has six the LaSalle defense the zone has been effective at keeping two here away from his scoring opportunity pound the offensive board Jack hurt comes away with it it scores and it's 32 24 LaSalle now getting just a tremendous Cameron Carney service with a three-pointer he hits 49 percent of his three-pointers this year that's seven points for the Lithuanian who hopes to play on the Lithuanian Olympic team this summer and cuts the LaSalle lead to three with over two minutes remaining in the half yeah it's giving more points if he makes it to see where he get that up that's unbelievable [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] Gordon Winchester at the free-throw line for Seton Hall falling afoul across Holland of LaSalle we have 201 remaining in the first half LaSalle leads 32 28 led by the outside shooting of Randy woods who has 19 first-half points it has been the Randy would show Woods has been able to do about whatever he's wanted on the offensive end of the court and defensively the LaSalle zone has really given the pink all pirates a problem these balls defense however kept them in the ball game we are [Music] time carburizing story two weeks ago back playing the doctors cleared him to play normally starts at the point guard spot now looking forward to there he is going to be called for a foul that will shatter Randy to the free-throw line that's sort of Randy woods first half in capsule right there he gets into Lane Dukan Campbell later tonight here that Texas Iowa game promises to be a good one at Missouri against West Virginia two teams stumbling a little bit at the end of the regular season he'll face each other next but right now we've got LaSalle and Seton Hall on a tight one it's Randy woods coaster his 20th point of the first half his career high is 42 against California and Booth the right is back in for Seton Hall he's been over 40 points twice this year Jerry Walker's taking a seat right there Walker has not been able to operate effectively in science Peck point in the lane area seat only has eight Jeff Neubauer returns for LaSalle with giving woods of gray there but there was a tough decision for speedy Morris in the woods picked up his third foul as he sent him down at that point or leave him in he elected to stay with him and it's worked out it sure has but what does the senior he knows how to play money think about well we did a nice job continued to be aggressive despite those files now he's going to sit out the rest of the head the hair for three Winchester unable to hold it this was tied up they held a ball of the arrow points to suit the home [Applause] that is only like the second offensive rebound second or third offensive rebound the Seton Hall has had today they just have not been able to get inside that zone surprised I think you because they're bigger than was I [Applause] [Music] - hair with a tough shot but he got fouled the Explorers bailing him out with a foul and I think your statement about a tough shot Mel is correct when they have been able to get the ball close to the bat tough shot bob was on broad Halep that's his second here mind a little bit of Ed Mele I played at Kansas State in the NBA [Music] yeah [Applause] Fareeda here now with seven points in pages three of a field goal attempts and a goal for 4 from three-point range first-team all-big East selection for the second straight year out of st. Anthony's high school interns ecity stay in school with producer Bobby Hurley and Kerry Walker and Seton Hall is staying in the game at the free-throw line they've converted all eight of their free throw attempts less than a minute remaining in the half the man opened underneath Burke was open but noubar couldn't get the pass through the traffic and Seton Hall picks up a foul it's on Gordon Winchester Seton Hall is noted for its half-court defense and PJ Carlesimo knowing that speedy Morris is going to try to run time off the clock well PJ switches his defense to an aggressive trap very nearly gets the steal that's a 16-5 so on the next mile or 1 at one coming up for the sound looks like they're going to sit on the ball [Applause] that's his third foul and Hurd is going to get to go to the free-throw line for a three opportunities it was funny mail you think that LaSalle is going to hang on to the basketball but they sort of therefore have the element of surprise working for them because bird pulls up from the shop I think Winchester was surprised there's one for the trap trying to steal if he comes from behind and picks up the puck I stand corrected that's the second foul on Winchester who will come out now John Lane he replaces him but jack heard a 71% shooter will shoot three the South fields as important as Randy woods is their herd is really the key they think Woods is going to get his 30 the key is for her to get his uniform number 25 when he normally gets 70 points they win the third is scoring that many he's drilled him from three two and will Talas awfully tough to beat however and this is two of three free throw opportunities the SOL leads by two with 29 seconds left and I'll seat halted work for the last shot [Music] as poorly as the Pirates have played in his first half they're very much in the game they're only down by two if you just watch the game who didn't watch the scoreboard you think they were behind by 10 or 15 points this because the head looked very effective on the offensive end to the court that sometimes the good zone defense right this makes you look bad traveling on two hair that's the 12th turnover the Pirates are averaging 16 a game so they're well ahead of schedule and that really upsets PJ Carlesimo Randy woods will come back in with LaSalle having the last possession and this is another gamble this kid's got three personal fouls you can pick up the charge or you push off into somebody that could really hurt great water by counts a buzzer-beater by Jeff Neubauer his first weak points in the game and the salads up by five and a half five I'll tell you what woods in the game so you figure you got a card here believe Newbauer alone he's not noted for three-point shooting to go at this first shot to the head and at the end of the first half with a score of 36 Seton Hall 31 ABS Sports exclusive coverage of the NCAA basketball championship will continue after this message and a word from your local station CBS Sports exclusive cover into the first round of the NCAA basketball championship is sponsored by Quaker State the big Q is one tough motor-oil Delta Faucet company Delta the way water is brought to light and by Michelin because so much is riding on your tires [Music] it's half timeless Alan Seton Hall 36 to 31 the Pirates of Seton Hall are down by five and hi again everybody paddle Brian and Mike Francesa here at our New York studios and speedy Morris may have bought a new shirt for this tournament he also has prepared his team well or is he lucky surprise surprise now they're not lucky I mean they run into a seed Hall has run into a red hot guy in Randy woods 21 first half points in Seton Hall has to do a better job at taking care of the basketball pac-12 first half turnovers and utilize their advantage inside if they can't do that this is gonna go right to the wire you know you're thinking these first-round games a favored team like Seton Hall should be able to take command or think they're able to take command what does that do them to them at halftime now down by five as we talked about in the open pet playing in the first half of opening games I don't care who the opponent is is very tough to find you rhythm you've been off a couple of days always anxiety in the tournament and it's tough even if I highly see the teams and that's why you have to get through that first one it gets that one hot player let's bring people up to date on what's gonna happen this afternoon and in our game twos this afternoon South Florida and Georgetown about 2:45 Eastern times don't keep us to these times that's about it West Virginia and Missouri Anthony peeler a big-time player Anthony pill is the u.s. player he can do what Woods is doing first LaSalle right now Pat he is an enormous leap Allen to play Stanford Alabama Pepperdine Memphis State BYU an LSU eight o'clock tonight and folks will get a chance to see Shaquille O'Neal is a big-time player if they haven't seen him this is the next great NBA Center whether he comes out this year or next year 7-foot 300 pounds can do everything on the floor but BYU will not be easy they're deep they have seven players over six eight they have a lot of fouls to give they'll be ready to play we're gonna send everybody for a taste out in the southeast Cincinnati Miami of Ohio in North Carolina Carolina 36 to 29 is a scorer Verne Lundquist and Len Elmore gentlemen [Applause] welcome those of you who've been watching other NCAA Tournament action here at Cincinnati it's 36:51 North Carolina with a five point edge early in the second half [Music] this is gonna give you what Carol utilize their inside advantage getting Eric Montross the ball when he needs it but Miami of Ohio refuses to quit they get outside shots and they've been putting them down after a cold Miami of Ohio only that it was at three - in the opening minute of play that they have been time twice they trailed now by two underneath their steps mantra strong rebound Davis number 50 Lamar Williams who prior to today equated only 14 ball games but Joby right went to him early when McKenna couldn't handle Montross and Lamar Williams is done it on both ends of the board particularly offensive rebounding 3634 Miami Ohio from Oxford just 35 miles away from Cincinnati here's McGrail penetrate this is back [Music] southeast region in Cincinnati for games later tonight the top seed the Buckeyes take on Mississippi Valley State Nebraska Connecticut could be a real close ballgame Alabama Stanford our next game here at contrast styles and on the first of four games North Carolina the fourth seed 11 consecutive times in the sweet 16 they were in the Final Four a year ago Miami of Ohio has not won an NCAA basketball game since 1978 there's the double down all knocked off [Music] and so uh Miami of Ohio hanging in there down by two against the Tar Heels of North Carolina and Mike Francesa Joe be right did a good job of convincing his players that he's playing the 1992 North Carolina teen not Jordan and Perkins and worthy and that some of the great themes but they have to keep launching those 3s the three point is that keeping Miami of Ohio in the game North Carolina has a big advantage inside but look what you see in so far Seton Hall losing Carolina are in a struggle and Arkansas having all kinds of problems with Murray State welcome to the NCAA tournament Miami just pulled ahead by 137 to 36 what we're seeing is good games in this first round got another good one enough four-point game going on the Midwest in Milwaukee dick Stockton and Greg Kell sir our men there from Murray State in Arkansas Arkansas up by four lot closer than people anticipated the Arkansas Razorbacks leading Murray State by four points with two and a half minutes remaining in the first Murray State actually had the lead at 36 to 35 moments ago ARIMA misses for Arkansas in the white hot days inside to Wallace against Arkansas Arkansas just appears to be pressing a little bit here they've had some foul trouble with day in the game with two Miller has two they're just trying to stay above board right now playing without anything to lose playing very comfortable Murray State and they've had excellent balance offensively both inside and on the perimeter Popeye Jones all 270 pounds of them that scored 11 points and has seven rebounds that has been the feature for this club areas on the perimeter right now bird state with the ball in Allen Payne balance he can create offense for himself as already knocked down to three corners in this game there's the shot clock as Popeye who Sony can handle the ball pass it nifty and power in Allen working in three Mac in a three-point shot and there's you'll get another chance at it but slapped away and a good defensive play by wallets of the Wraith of that and so Murray State hanging in there as dick Stockton's said a lot closer than a lot of people would have thought going in I think if you know in Richardson you're getting there at halftime and you say hey guys remember this the NCAA tournament this is it let's go out and play ball play hard I don't think they've played very hard the first 15 minutes of a state where the giant killers what 80 80 80 80 Tennessee State and Jim Valvano can they be another giant killer it's a little early back a little early for that little early for that in this game a lot of people are sweating these things out here in the brackets with these close games but we love it here the road at the Final Four continues on CBS after this stay with us [Music] led by Randy wood 21 points the LaSalle explores half Seton Hall down by five and a half and Dan Bonner Seton Hall hasn't been able to stop Randy wood it certainly has been the Randy woods show he has done it and done it in a variety of different ways for LaSalle receipting all Terry the hair has not gotten really started yet he's only got six at half time so we take a look at the halftime stats three-point field goals not really a factor in the game [Music] Seton Hall only 16 turnovers all year long for per game they've got 12 LaSalle's got 14 points off those turnovers so you can see woods with 21 - Herron caver each have eight my dad will return to Greensboro after this [Music] CB s a basketball championship is sponsored by Chevrolet the cars in front more people depend on Advil advanced medicine for pain and by Gillette and the revolutionary Gillette Center shaving system Gillette the best a man can get LaSalle has a five-point lead at the half and let's check in with Lesley Visser Lesley know what Seton Hall wants is to push the tempo get up quicker on LaSalle zone not stand around looking at it they also want Terry to hair settle down a little bit of Tablas pivot foot melt all right Thank You Leslie it's 36:31 LaSalle as we begin the second half Jack bird wastes no time living up to three that's the 15th three-point attempt so far by the South herd only 1 for 6 from three-point range so far so Gordon's win Gordon Winchester's done a pretty good job that's better ball movement right there that's the best move College don't you get inside of that zone you whip it around and you've got to hair wide open in the corner Seton Hall needs to get Terry to hair on track he now has 11 points but he had only three of eight shots in the first half his Randy woods what a 21-point first half blocked by partition is Gibran Holland's score I guess if that's hockey pernicious would get an assist on that - it left wood hand carnism is blocked in Holland got it and all in the same motion laid it in the basket and an offensive foul has been called on Jerry Walker that's his third foul and he's such a key to any success of Seton Hall experience set these lineups for you for LaSalle they have neubauer and woods in the backcourt with locally burst Ron Holland and Jack heard on the front line received Hall Cameron - hair in the guard - Walker parnisha bus and Winchester up front that's great defense by Seton Hall very nearly got the five-second count they'll call libres moves outside and mrs. Braun hall of Israel - scored on offensive rebound that's ten offensive rebounds thus far for seat upper LaSalle Winchester's scores proceeded the hall to make it 42 36 LaSalle you know Val Seton Hall they've held LaSalle under 42 percent overall field goal shooting but Seton Hall's problems are at the offensive end not the defensive it wards for three and it's so often happened to the mystery pointer to get a long rebound at a fast break the cheap haul is unable to convert you know the number of shots taken in the first half with the big key the sow got off 31 shots Seton Hall only 19 Seton Hall only has two points off second chances Elle ball on the arrow points to Seton Hall for one of the very few times Seton Hall is able to get their hands on an offensive rebound you know at halftime Mel they only had two offensive board so the Pirates have struggled on the offensive end of the court [Applause] tarnisha vez puts up a three pointer Winchester on the follow so the Pirates was more active on the offensive board early in the second half than they wore the first half and for LaSalle they're gonna have to get it done on the offensive end - they're not going to win this game on the defensive end of the court Woods came very close to picking up a fourth foul and - hair is fouled by chef du bar [Applause] [Music] that's his second foul and the first team five good pressure defensively by Seton Hall against LaSalle there was a stretch there in the first half where they produced a flurry of LaSalle turnover looks like we're seeing it again here that does not mean speedy Morris very happy he had a long talk with Jeff Neubauer they're an excellent free-throw shooter at 83% on the season [Music] [Applause] [Applause] we'd like to welcome those of you who've been watching the Arkansas Murray State game I'm Mel Proctor along with Dan Bonner we're in Greensboro North Carolina with 17 20 remaining in the second half masala tea tall or tied 40 apiece Randy woods for 21 first half funk where we shyly scored so far the second half [Applause] and it's eatin hardball Seton Hall has really struggled on the offensive end of the court in this game so far but they're 10 of 10 of the free throw line and have been pretty effective defensively another action later today Missouri and West Virginia in accident tonight Texas in Iowa and the defending NCAA champion Duke Blue Devils meet the fighting camels of Campbell Darrell Mills number 33 is in the game City Hall the air pass picked off by buckle lubbers [Applause] it has really been a game in which Seton Hall has struggled from the offensive end of the court their defense has been pretty good they've really held it down with three players from us out there you guys get to see wood is not converted with a CEO and he misses this ring ridiculous is coursing underneath on the other hand lasalle while they haven't been able to convert their threes they've done a tremendous job on the offensive cords they force Seton Hall turnovers the Pirates just not very effective hanging onto the ball or getting it back off the backboard Jerry Walker returns for Seton Hall replacing card issueless and for LaSalle blitz witness in the game [Music] replacing levers well you got a Pickford and Woods up you can't give them the edge they get rid of old so quick and Winchester's doing a great job you heard her just does not had any open opportunity whoops Winchester gets out of the one man break [Applause] hers not noted as a great shot blocker but his timing was perfect on that particular occasion would test to step out of the way remember that he's got the three personal fouls but would force the Winchester to change he shot just enough to allow her to catch up Winchester can tell folks it took a herd to stop it gets off to get all those out of your system now I don't want anything I've gotta turn the Campbell doc just warming up for the do Campo score tied at 44 minutes into the second half and he Campbell job to do the hair misses he fights Brian Holland for the rebound good effort by Holland to save him that's great scrap when I think PJ Carlesimo is upset with the fact that his team didn't go after that ball quite as hard as no italics floor [Music] Holland the position underneath [Applause] Holland with a very ponderous Truman coupe to the baseline disrupted the defense so the movement was open in the middle and now Gordon Winchester commits his third personal found Winchester needs all his files for Jack heard he can't afford to be filing Blitz Luke John Lahey replaces him what they get in this transaction is good outside shooting a lady but they lose the defense of Winchester let's see a birdie will start to go off now with Winchester out of the game during the hair also gets a breather she's replaced by Danny Hurley and in the first half when Hurley came in the basketball game LaSalle went to a half-court trap that helped them points scored by Wolfe is the first bench point for either team this game and with Seton Hall being a deeper team one that uses its bench a little bit more again that's another stat that works in the favor of without reaching in and grabbing and Humber close-fitting up his fourth foul a couple of times you're right now he's got to be careful bit caution does not seem to be part of his game Hurley misses the three pointer now wound nearly kept that in flight Daryl him mrs. Walker is fouled on the follow one officials got moving the other fish has got Newbauer it looks like Ruben is going to be the guilty party on that particular play what Seton Hall has been able to do defensively in this half mal is they have been able to force players other than herd and wood to shoot the ball speedy Morris is in his sixth year as the men's coach at LaSalle he coached the women's team for two years and I asked him if there was any difference coaching men or women he said when he took the woman's job he was really concerned because if he yelled at them he thought the girls might get mad and not talk to him for two days but he said no there's really not much difference there on scholarship just like the guy's diverse stories about their basketball but over impact violation coming up next Georgetown against South Florida West Virginia Missouri that game will be here in Greensboro Stanford against Alabama Stanford featuring a fine forward and Adam teeth and I like that Pepperdine team is well out west I really like Alabama they've got a very athletic team they can come and get you and I think that's what you have to be able to do to advance it is turn the brandy which has yet to score after pouring at 21 points for the South no that's an excellent point you're talking about bran Holland doing the damage inside but the Seton Hall defense has shut off would be shut off heard the two main scores for LaSalle it's almost as if PJ Carlesimo has decided if Wu sau is going to beat him he's going to make the other guys beat them and I think that that's a great strategic move he's brought Holland in Milko Libre Jeff Neubauer can beat a Winchester and the hair return to the Seton Hall lineup it has given the South a two point lead he has seven points and five rebounds he was the hero of the South's victory in the MAC Tournament shot in the final seconds of the game gave the explorers to victory 77 to 74 over Manhattan and they lead by three with 14 45 remaining and here comes a half-court trap by the South would almost had a steal carried a hair puts up a three rebounded John Waihee Seton Hall has been much more active on the offensive boards in the second half than they were in the first woods about hands look at woods half of the open party finds Jack her for free as he loved it in the South ins up a six-point lead and here's the trap again - hair with a strong baseline ruled that counts and a foul on Braun Hollander that's just the hairs quickness as Holland picks up his third foul Holland is going to try to get over as they're running it to hair remember he just made a three so now they've got to run out there to cover him Holland just not quick enough to get in position to draw the charge Jerry - hair now has 15 points but Holland has picked up his third foul and he'll come out as Milko leverage replaces him frankly I'm a little surprised meld that LaSalle would stay with that trap with both caver and the hair in the game at the same time because when you're trapping your defense isn't in its set position and you can get opportunities such as the 1 2 here just got and convert it for a three-point play Seton Hall remains perfect at the free-throw line the Pirates have made 11 consecutive free throws to this game neubauer puts up with three hit one to end the first half Darry the hair looking for his shots now but he finds Lahey open Lahey that's it to party that's Leahy's first two pointer and four games now nothing but threes for Lahey it's 46 45 LaSalle 1320 remaining in the game [Music] and a foul is called on Jack heard that's his second at the conclusion of every NCAA Tournament game will select the Chevrolet players of the game in conjunction with the award Chevrolet will donate $1,000 the general scholarship fund to fall schools number 23 Paul burka Pressman from Philadelphia returns to LaSalle reeking of LaSalle explores wanted to put up 20 good three-point shot they've attempted 21 not all of them good but they may five Seton Hall has defended his perimeter extremely well they're running it heard and despite all their struggles the Seton Hall pirates are now ahead in this basketball game their defense has really close down the Explorers in the second hand Terry they're enjoying a productive second half he now has 18 points and the Pirates take the lead three pointer [Applause] [Music] versus the guy who can shoot the three those are his first three points to the basketball game but with Seton Hall closing off Bourbon would the sound lead some production from someone else [Music] Gaber backs it out I want to change the approach against his own the hair really offensive minded he picks up another one rebounded by Jerry Walker the Pirates much improved on the offensive boards the second half and here's the alley-oop from cavers to the hair you talk about being offensive minded the hair finds the theme behind the zone and when you attack his own like that if you do it from behind the zone sometimes you can get easy opportunities that's an excellent pass and a good cut by the hair ray Schultz number 34 6 9 Junior is checked in full of sound and will the pirates over missed a free throw they're 11 for 11 at the line Walker makes it 12 of the raw and then really kept him in the ball game in the first half their free throw shooting because they struggled about every way you can struggle offensively 13 straight free-throw conversions by Seton Hall and the score is tied at 49 with 12 minutes remaining team hall only had two offensive rebounds in the first half Mel here's 11 56 left in the game and they already have 6 in this half Paul Burke on the drive fouled by Brian caber Burtt a freshman was the Mac Rookie of the Year so he's a kid who can play you know you get so tied up about the three-point shots that herd and woods take the Bert kid here has attempted in 87 three-point shots and on most other teams that would be a pretty high figure so he's a kid who's got some offensive skills and it looked like the Seton Hall defense is going to require him to release Colombo who is the cousin of over Georgetown's Karthik M'Baye matumbo now at the Denver Nuggets is in he is from Nigeria the played his high school ball and Herndon Virginia Merck has given him out of the league he has four points and 32 three-quarter the foul was looking for some offense and Burke has provided it here the last couple of trips somebody has had to pick up the pace for LaSalle because he would be scoreless and over eight minutes to the second leads by two on Burke's free throw [Applause] 11:49 remaining in the second half and Greensboro LaSalle leads by two over the four seed Seton Hall and here's to speedy Morris lecturing his players well doing a little more than lecturing get your attention the last thing that a coach needs in that situation is some player having it debate and not a debating society over there on the bench hair Walker Leahy and Winchester pull us out with Birkin wood Columbo is in there along with ray Schultz and vocally burst on the front line [Applause] [Music] three point he would go to the moment ago not about the Seton Hall a lot of whether or not you're going to get the three-point shot depends upon how the ball movement goes before it gets to you for the three lay he is not really in position because the ball is not moving very fast forty-three he is so unbelievably fast with the Google now he picked up that ball and then he just put some distance between himself on the defenders on the dribble he has four steals [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] welcome to Greensboro North Carolina Bill Buckner along with Dan minors who bring you first with an action in the East region LaSalle seeded 13th hoping upset the four seed Seton Hall explores her up by him for leverage tips it back up in Colombo and the open man don't leave what is very soon it has been an offensive struggle the entire day for Seton Hall they've stayed in the game at the free-throw line where they've converted thirteen straight now PJ Carlesimo guess the time was I last PJ Carlesimo with the Pirates on the ropes you see a a basketball championship on CBS LaSalle is connected on six of 22 three-pointers in this game they've also scored 23 points off Seton Hall turnovers and the explorers have a six-point lead with 956 remaining Mel Proctor with Dan Varner East region region action from Greensboro in a battle between the fourth seeded pirate from Seton Hall in the 13th C Toulouse Alex Forrest Seton Holland this looks a step slow the path laid on the offensive end of the court really been a struggle for the Pirates [Applause] tarnisha vez puts up a three parter rebounded by paul burke who you look at the box score tomorrow i can see you must next the perks name but he's been an important part of this game so far Carlos got his good bye ray Schultz when LaSalle's needed it they've been able to get the offensive rebounds in Seton Hall is really in trouble right now the hair tries to go one-on-one nothing there he backs it out the zone defenses really confused Seton Hall [Applause] they're not getting anything in the middle of the zone [Music] ryankevin puts up a three his third of the game and that's a pretty decent way to attack his own the hair penetrates in forces the zone to collapse and defend the inside and then that's a wide open three pointer for gaber's woods with a quick release and there's Lieberstein another offensive rebound labor stand Braun Holland has done a great job woods gets a second chance and misses but he won't stop you gonna love that mentality now Quinn caravan he's got great quickness in his hands he steals it again burps - chokes jokes rebounds the carnivorous ties him up and the arrow points to LaSalle [Applause] I think is the game assumes a more up-and-down pace though it's favored Seton Hall because they can get up and down and beat that zone defense LaSalle we understand Todd day of Arkansas has picked up four fouls the Razorbacks game against Murray State so that could be a problem well that's a very interesting score there that North Carolina Miami score is certainly one that people should be surprised [Applause] [Music] at eight point lead Priscilla Sol with 750 left and the scary thing for Seton Hall is he's not shot as three point shots very well at all today if he was going to heat it up from three you're in big trouble if you're the Seton Hall fire mention his season high as 42 he's done that twice his career high as 46 last year Brian Cameron for the Aufbau was shot he hits the wall at 60 250 for the sound last couple of trips Seton Hall's been able to get inside that zone but they're beginning to run out of time can't trade baskets with an opponent who's ahead of you by eight points the hair starting woods wrightman jack bird misses three quarters libros keeps it alive and it's a held wall but the arrow points what the stars are heard and and woods but the other guys in supporting characters likely burst and Holland and Berk have really been important today for LaSalle South Florida and Georgetown coming up here in Greensboro it will be West Virginia against Missouri Alabama me Stanford and Pepperdine hoping the upset Memphis State Luther Wright is back in the game for Seton Hall seven minutes remaining and in this six-point lead for the sound explorers that went through most of the game and led by as many as nine points Lahey for three Winchester got on the screen you were talking about Lahey not really looking for his three-point shot that's his first three of the game and the style will take a timeout so in 642 remaining in the game the most solid floors lead Seton Hall by three in the Midwest region in Milwaukee Arkansas Maurice aider playing now next up it's Memphis State in Pepperdine and later tonight USC against Northeast Louisiana the Trojans led by baby Jordan Harold miners and is a Campbell University fan resting up for the game later tonight as we do Kennedy and there's work again that's up that a two-point shot he's given him seven points off the bench some concern as to how much he could play having undergone appendectomy just two weeks ago and practicing for only about six days he's played a lot the second half [Applause] lose the rights basket truck LaSalle's lead to three that's his first basket of the game and Seton Hall is starting to get inside that LaSalle zone you've got a wonder though whether it's too late [Applause] shot by Luther right is sensible madam swinging to seek the hall brian tabor is foul no it's against caber a player can profile as Wooten takes the charge caver sensing the opportunity in the transition gets down the lane of good defensive play by Wooten that's another turnover at 19 for Seton Hall we're just every time Seton Hall feels like they get something going now a play like that occurs a steal or a plow or a turnover it's been a very difficult day for the prior Winchesters getting hurt off he wanted to shoot a three Winchester could really play defense five and a half remaining second half of Greensboro LaSalle leads by three to harris guarding woods he shakes free it takes it inside 28 points for Randy Woodson LaSalle leads by 5 first gonca to steal two hair reporter fine ladies his second of the half and that cuts the south lead to two and speedy Morris has the coat off he's disgusted his players stood there and watched that rebound kick out his players have played with great effort all day but they left out at one time and Leahy makes him pay for it for under five minutes Paul Bert for three boys he's been big today he has really stepped up 10 points for Bert and the solids by and the look of intensity on the face of Randy woods is really really something if looks could kill the king all guys that all be stretched out no Cola burst returns for LaSalle Jerry Walker's back in for Seton Hall Ryan - hair getting a breather I would expect he'd be back in shortly but he's huffing and puffing maybe a little tired Gaber penetrate turns it over and I was looking at turnover the day for Seton Hall woods in the great catch [Applause] [Music] the solids by aid with [Applause] this afternoon but eight-point lead with four minutes remaining in the game woods with 31 points this afternoon but a tremendous effort by LaSalle particularly on the defensive end of the court where they've really frustrated the Seton Hall often Seton Hall's got three minutes and 48 seconds to get it in here they're going home turnovers have killed the Pirates 20 turnovers today the hair hits a three parter with 28 of lasalle 70 points have come off Seton Hall 10 over 670 265 of salvan time to factor now and Paul Burke has come off the bench and given LaSalle 10 points there were going to get a foul against the haircutting to the benefit so Randy woods has obviously been the star but Paul Burke coming off the bench has had a tremendous game florida-based Georgetown the literal are game of a South Seton Hall will be the winner of the West Virginia Missouri game Stanford faces Alabama Pepperdine against Memphis State John Lahey returns for Seton Hall Luther Wright will take a seat and do a couple of things with that substitution you get a three-point threat in the game for the offensive end of the court you make yourself quicker on the defensive end of the court would shooting a 1 and 1 is would the pro prospect you bet speedy Warren says guys like spud Webb and Mugsy Bogues and Michael Adams can play so could Woods but he will have to make a transition because in the NBA have to be a point guard there aren't many 511 two guards which BTW says he'll have no problem making the transition because you can handle the ball well enough and the blocking foul is called on blitz whoo
