NBC's Tom ask what was on the ground now in Baghdad Tom what's the situation there Tom a few minutes ago the skies were filled with fire triple-a fire reaching up looking for targets here full of flares machine guns firing all over town we're in the ministry of information building in the center of Baghdad we have a heavy anti-aircraft battery on top of this it was reaching up but managed to hit nothing at no time did we hear any engines or any incoming but I'm just hearing a report now but one piece of ordnance has landed near the Al Rashid Hotel in the center of Baghdad you have done some broken some windows of course some damage there that's what we have at the moment so something has come down in the federate bag that one that we know about Tom thank you very much Tom a school in Baghdad NBC's Fred Francis is towing is as well that one of those targets south of Baghdad had nuclear components in and we launched cruise missiles out that earlier the Americans shot down an front of their defense has been getting beat they have had great coverage downfield all day Kelly went deep twice they intercepted twice on the other side of it I think Kelly's done a great job with play selection he just hasn't executed well when he's thrown deep he's only one completion to a wide receiver with 10 yards that's it that's as long as throw outside speaking of play selection John they've impressed you with their use of the screen they really have I think the one way that you beat crowd noise and a passer should throw the screen and once Jim threw the interception down there and at plus territory in the first half they've come back and counted thrown aside ways and they get it to Thurman Thomas here who in my opinion stood best player on the field and he goes in for the touchdown so like will said they have done a great job in play selection let's take a look at what the two Buffalo running backs have done Thurman Thomas hampered by injuries has not been very effective the last couple of weeks against Houston and Pittsburgh but he comes back very strong with 65 rushing yards and 55 through the air including the touchdown and you see what Kenneth Davis has done in support of him now on the other side Marino has been pressured all day has been sacked three times he also had a couple of passes knocked down and in another instance instance he had to hurry the past so they've been getting the rush on him there's no question and they've been playing man coverage in a secondary and that's the way he stopped Dan Marino get in his face and they've done that and really eliminated my am and getting anything going on office despite that a couple of drops hurt Marino deep in Buffalo territory Clayton drop one Martin had a more difficult catch but he could have caught it and didn't there's two big plays right there that he did have a drop and damn put it on the ball and they just haven't made the plays Miami's made so many mistakes first half that and those are two that really stand out alright OJ is outside the Bills locker room let's go to the Jews well as we spoke about in the pregame show we felt that key to this game at least I did was the ability of Cornelius Bennett and Bruce Smith to put some pressure on Dan Marino as you guys covered yeah they've been getting to him they're forcing them out of their game plan they would much rather throw the ball downfield if you notice on that set by Smith that was a three or five step drop normally you can't get the Marino that quickly they've been constantly pressuring them and that's what the defense has been geared to do that's what they want to do all week the other concern is Thurman Thomas his condition I talked to him coming up this up the tunnel here he was the last guy to lead a field he was walking slow he says juice I'm fine nothing is hurting I just didn't practice this week so I got to worry about my condition and my win and consequently they were giving him a few breaks in the first half that story over here with the bills well what's happening with the Dolphins Todd well Jay one of the points that you made well you made as well taken that's regarding the protection of Dan Marino I had a chance to talk with John Sandusky the offensive line coach I said what is that you have to do to keep the pressure off Marino he made a very interesting point he says we have to run the ball now the Dolphins are not known as a running team but they have to take some pressure off of Marino because they can't continue to go back three times and throw the ball I asked Keith Jackson how his ankle was this is his reaction it hurts but I also had a chance to talk with Tom Oliver dotty about the defense if they're going to be any major adjustments he said he didn't think so well I have a tendency to disagree after all for any other reason than they have twice as many total yards twice as many first downs three times as many rushing yards but echoing your sentiment Bob they feel very fortunate they're only down ten points five turnovers in the first half Miami had three of them Buffalo to the bills 13 and Miami three at the half will and John Elway will be back with show you other than a 2-1 total yardage bills over Miami is field position Bob Trumpy the Dolphins started 7 Series at their own 20 buffalo started an average 50-yard line that's 30 yard difference times 7 that's 210 it's a real estate so in every way Buffalo should have a huge commanding lead but they don't yeah and as the guy said at halftime maybe that's the one saving grace for Miami that they're still in this football game but dick I'm beginning to wonder if what we saw last week against San Diego offensively for Miami was the aberration this is the way the Miami offense is played over the last five regular season games they could not figure out why but the last time they played Buffalo they started the game with two great drives and could not do a thing after that they're looking an awful lot like the late season Miami Dolphins offensively it's one touchdown it was the kind of play that screen pass were the coaches for Buffalo when they see it on the film they'll give themselves a standing ovation sometimes dick your draw plays up and they work but they never work this good watch the motion by Andre Reed draw a man out in coverage the three linemen get out on this screen it's beautifully sold by Jim Kelly and there is absolutely no Miami Dolphins there to make the tackle at the end of this play look in the end zone James Lofton making the key block to allow Thurman Thomas to get in beautifully executed and I'm telling you you hope they worked at well James Lofton the veteran one of the many weapons of this buffalo team regarded at the start of the season frame those thoughts the more more cohesively and telling to them because I really couldn't do it but in the back of my mind there a number of things I think we would do differently talk to me about the day's game this team has had some success against you this year you guys dominated this football game from the very beginning especially on screen plays and draw plays is that what we get on playing well they were part and you never know how many times you're gonna call them they seem to be working we kept going to them we had a few new plays in that work for us well but when the game were the forty seven players who played like they did forty seven people you know that the big controversy all week is a two out of eight quarterback more than a quarterback Windsor loses he's important and let me say something else I want to take it Ernest Hemingway once said that character is grace under pressure no one was ever ever under any more pressure than Jim Kelly was today or Frank Reich was the previous two weeks but they don't win it alone they don't lose it alone all 47 guys do that I would say you were under a little pressure yourself coach it appears you made the thought that a whoever's in there is gonna give a hundred percent regard if it's Frank or Jim Jim's our starter but Frank you know he came in did a great job but whoever's in there we gotta pull behind him confidence you know we got to give him a lot of confidence because uh you know Frankton he seemed like he didn't have it when he came in but we pulled together came behind him he wanted games for us well congratulations we'll see in the Pasadena now we're gonna go to Todd Christensen with coach Don Shula well thanks a lot juice obviously the tenor is a little different here coach Shula first of all congratulations on a good year I heard you mentioned that your team did made strides but I know it's tough to think about that right now well it is because it all went on a line today at a game that we knew we had to play excellent football Buffalo last week showed that they're back playing great football in their win against Pittsburgh and although we had a great game against San Diego we weren't equal to it today they pretty much controlled it on us they had to run going and we couldn't run and a little screen pass where they hurt us one of the things I was wondering was with regards to the protection from Moreno it seemed like the last two games obviously they were able to rush him a little bit better were you able to make any adjustments at halftime cuz they seem to keep coming well they were they put it off a lot of pressure on Bruce Smith's one of the greatest as far as rushing the passer but their other defensive lineman also do a good job and if you keep people in then you have trouble getting anybody open and Dan does a good job of getting rid of the football which he which he did we had an opportunity to make some plays today but we didn't we're only down by 10 at halftime and we came out and fumbled a second half kickoff and didn't get any anything generated off that's Phyllida to make it a competitive game congratulations to you nonetheless a young team I'm sure you're back thank you okay let's go back to OJ Simpson with Cornelius Bennett juice venez mr. Odom's two guys that were round the ball all day I said when this game began that the key to the game was your ability to put pressure on Dan Marino right away you and Bruce Smith got sacks on were you running stunts what were you doing out there to have that success now we're just straight-out pasteurize you got to give credit to the defensive backs they did a hell of a job in the last three weeks and they've done a hell of a job and we got to give them credit officer Nate you've had a one of these interesting years you played thump your position as well as anybody in football you haven't gone to the Pro Bowl but you got to be happy with the game that you have today oh very good you know our defense came out and played very well past us gave us the opportunity that we need to get in front of passes nothing down and a cover the receivers really really tight so it was a very good win for us well we're in our bills happy but I think somewhat subdued locker room I think they feel there's more work to be done that work will be done in Pasadena now can we go to Bob Costas yes we can interesting that Marv levy was quoting Ernest Hemingway about grace under pressure fairly well-known quote he is as many of you may know a man who holds a master's degree in English history from Harvard last year after their Super Bowl defeat against the Redskins he was quoting Churchill's something to the effect of defeat in any circumstances being odious and for his sake we hope he has a victory quote ready a couple of weeks from now in Pasadena but they'll have to reverse their past history and Super Bowls and we'll talk about that when we come back on this postgame edition of NFL live and
