as many coaches do even though it's a playoff game and they go very conservative he says the Oilers will be as unpredictable as ever and quarterback warren moon is coming off what Granville feels is whose best game of the season Gil Moon's playing with a great deal of confidence right now Seattle's gonna have to try to confuse him with secondary coverages try to put some pressure on him by making him get off rhythm form out of sync with the confusion and hope that he has some bad interceptions now the Oilers have two explosive receivers in earnest Gibbons and drew Hill this tandem is combined for 102 catches in 1922 yards there is Houston coach Jerry Glanville Amanda's turned them from one of the NFL's laughingstock clubs to a contender did it in one season now he feels they have to guard against just being satisfied by making the playoffs which could have happened to the New Orleans Saints who were clobbered earlier today by the Minnesota Vikings and for the Seattle Seahawks Chuck knots in his fifth season with Seattle perhaps his best coaching job took place back in 84 when he lost Kurt Warner for 15 games still went 12 and for best record and Seahawk history but his defensive unit was stronger that season as compared to this year as evidenced by last week in Kansas City not says major problems defensively sellout crowd of 50,000 594 we have heard some boys of course the introduction of the heard noise in Houston throughout the year this kickoff is sponsored by Budweiser the king of beers mr. welcome we will go to the offense as we get underway of the AFC wild card game Warren Moon a 50% passer touchdowns my clothes here alonzo highsmith and he has outstanding receivers we'll see proportions of the ball game four wideouts utilized for Houston last week ran 403 rs.20 carries defensive alignment taking pre this head up to the Pro Bowl although there are many who say a sprained ankle it's a second he has the first down Alonzo Highsmith who has been brought along slowly following his holdout to cut suit up to play at mo pepper a good one last week his best game as a pro the stop mister first down front 32 here you see Brian Bosworth 55 trying to take on the all-pro guard number 63 Munchak and run Jack certainly got the better in the back for the first time going to give intercepted five seconds that the honors at Melvin Jenkins who has replaced the rink at a Terry Taylor and Jenkins picked it off in front of the intended receiver Ernest givins well they went right after but he was in excellent position this ball is a little bit farther out front you may have a completion or at least Gibbons can break to pass up but when you look where this ball is it's under throwing and Jenkins adjust to the ball that have been given to see for the season of Seattle with a short pickup the inside linebacker John whoops we could buy with fullcycle Doug Smith as Jarnell Williams first round last pick last year Tommy bursts a rookie from Middle Tennessee the other starter and steed logic are concerned that these brothers Darryl Turner will see quite a bit of it later on grant Feazell offensive line up with safety on the stop steve washer couldn't have been done any better excellent pass protection by the line of Seattle Craig sets up has the time is comfortable back there and he just throws a beautiful pass large it downfield made the inside move and got the jump on the defender watch women fall come down right there first down Houston 20 where it gets it away for watching beside the turn and watchin crossover touchdown but block by the wide receiver the others Heidi went 20 yards for the score and the Seahawks take six nothing leave so many ways large and could beat a team the man blocks well he runs well after the catch here Craig setting up the pass to the right pulls the Houston defense wow what a move he made getting away from the Doug Smith now 54 right there feasel the center for the Seahawks made an excellent block and the rest of its larger at number 70 big madness down there to tackle for the Seahawks goes another good block perfect this season and he continues a perfection 41 for 41 the Seahawks quite early we used to Steve Largent was out early and check out this scientific attest of the astroturf Steve logic checking out the scenes ok saying what is this stuff you know the reason he's checking the scenes is some of those Rascals are about an inch and a half two inches deep and about an inch apart and if you're running a cut trying to make a cut and you hit one of those things you'll go right to the turf whistles knock playing surfaces for players around the NFL it never has been from day one I know I hated it most of the guys around the it's like some in out there that's how hard it is awaiting the kickoff for norm Johnson 7 up in Seattle quickly drone second-year player from Notre Dame heading to the 20-yard line it will spread young leading the special team assault the coverage here's a replay of the touchdown we just saw for making the fake and trying to get the defense over to the left side and they accomplished that here's States number 99 Bruce Smith then rest of it is all good blocking 54 feasel and then the running by larger they completely fooled the oil a defense and the blockers got out in front logic just continues to add numbers of what has been a record-breaking career first down from the 24 the Oilers they are down 7 nothing and it spike grows healed stop by the white defensive end yes Brian up front with green and mash rosier with a five-yard pickup second down and five at the 25 houston oilers finished at nine up and six down the only team in the playoffs outscored this season that despite the fact that they during the replacement games walloped denver about a score of 40 to 10 they were belted around a couple of times and most of the victories were by close margin all those jars loose he is short of the first down Eugene Robinson the free safety three-year player from Colgate made the stop Highsmith going for free you know football people say that right now alonzo highsmith has had very little experience in the NFL they say that right now he is one of the best blockers in the NFL yes but I have to see it against the pros in college he certainly was he hasn't been playing much this season he's rusty didn't have the training camp and he's worried about following the ball right now Houston's more pressure than the court again being behind seven to nothing further down and one coming up her first time out with 500 on five in this first quarter Seattle with a 7-nothing lead on Houston the 20-yard touchdown clasp from crate to large it that preceded by a 33 yard pass play so they pray critics in Seattle off to a very fast start Justin Alford out at one cigar bar to direction and has the first down Mike remove the probe all for the first time the first time to get the beef fence blowing in the direction of the ball and then they wall off the backside now you see Rosia come back here you see that at number seven they just pushes green down the line that's all Rozier right there dude Seattle had the point of attack stop Rosario cut in behind it for the first down Houston first down you settle the title emotional high school those tackle stopping highsmith so here the author's going at five yards a clip and a key to the running game for Houston could beat a free agent Center Peniston number 52 on 72 Joe Nash here Nash gets the better end of it but he's not quite strong enough to bring down big Alonzo Highsmith who ends up making some yardage but I keep an eye on that matchup all afternoon the Center Peniston along with nose tackle Nash last week the Oilers exploded for season high for five and a half per carry Rosina some very nifty open-field running elfin drinkin's number 24 made the stop here with a seven-yard gain and another Houston first down well they set up the screen to the right side and will see number 63 Munchak and 74 Matthews get out there to get rosier some blocky the defenders over running the watch this he cuts right back there that's all Rozier again a fake on the right defensive end Jeff Bryant and a first down for Houston from their 46 yard line Seahawks seven boosted nothing Rosie Tibet feel but the five strong safety can easily on the stop last week jerry glanville the houston coach felt it was the best one blocking performance of the season by the author they're off to the good start here in the first quarter except June Jones told me to put it back coach the oil is that they must be pace and patient offensively that first series with the long interception did show much patience at all this series six nice catch by truhair and front of Patrick hunter 50-yard pass play that gets the crowd going Dru Hill with speed to burn on the top of your screen is covered by 23 Patrick Connor now hunter will give him a good push and he'll just stops and turns back inside and makes a terrific catch that ball this ball is hard to handle the blocking is there moon is so strong he put some heat on this pass and that's all hands there so a fine catch that time roll he'll have 49 catches this season six last week against Cincinnati although he dropped a couple water in the endzone first down from the 35 where's here inside the 40 and the hitching up the first call English folks the outside linebacker made the tackle on rosier but a it seems to be the offensive line of the Oilers the controlling things out there here they get off the ball well in Rosia it cuts it back you know most of these football games are won and lost at the line of scrimmage and in this Drive like houston is establishing the dominance that is a massive beast of auto seiyya 30 your pickup for alonzo highsmith outside linebacker creek jeans who is back in the starting lineup providing with the pause Brian Bosworth greatest thing to me that Bosworth has to call the defensive signals for the Seahawks you know he's a rookie and the young man has so many things going through his mind out there's a rookie he's not that experienced yet he's birdie with having to to call the defensive signals people who say that he hasn't been playing some intimidating words from Brian Bosworth as Warren Moon what's at a tenth play of this Drive forgotten and the Seahawks able to hold the Oilers was right there draw play here fools Bosworth actually cuts lead through here Thanks it's going to be a pass but Rozier goes the other way pretty young number 50 comes in to make the play along with Jacob green 79 and Bosworth the bad with the most recognizable mohawk since the French and Indian War holding six yard field goal attempt for true decent day huh Jay Haas sinister year from Nevada Reno has had an excellent season when de Haas putting up three on the board and with 444 remain in this first quarter it's the Seahawks seventh the Oilers free you know Joe I really miss the 10 little chicken hey I like the 10 minute taker I know everybody sit at home throughout the season they get a chance to see how the other teams are do and I think that's a good idea strong confidence management from Roger we have only once scored a report on in the earlier playoff game it was Minnesota surprising a New Orleans they attack by Bobby Joe open good coverage by the Oilers why on return one of the best kick return head 7:3 the school Seattle hopefully right mojo hey that is equipment assistant bill Lackey of the Houston autos who usually enthusiastically retrieves the kicking key I've seen even more enthusiastic he's just warming up but drive by the the shuttle for the official calls for tea chuckles the way the owners have played this year some have said 30 of the same with emotion but the coaching staff likes the gang tackling philosophy number 32 Williams makes this carry makes the break to the outside because Lau's forced him outside the linebacker for the morning now here we see what he's trying to do to replace Warner and he's going to have to have some help to accomplish that number 34 first we lost a lot of sucker before you stop the game this time he picked up two of the key foster and the inside they killed us so once again the gang tackle of Donnell Williams Williams trying to get the yardage here but number 25 Bostick the Pro Bowlers strong safety he's just tremendous big size 223 pounds for strong safety that's like adolfo Burfoot we're a trip the Seattle drama Childress for the son well it's just a simple slip to put it back when it gets that back there what's his left side I'll put a probably good way there that's the foot that the quarterback set sets on and you know a wet day I could understand it but this turf is in good shape out here it has a lot of friction that's a tough thing to figure out looking from his Jackson hey Johnson here probe for Mississippi State on the return personal a placement Claire had excellent day last week off the 38 yard punt you're he's seven seconds to go first policy Atticus field condition for the Otters first out of the Seahawk - scream this is a perfect example what we talked about earlier in the show Marv Houston's not going to play a conservatively they had run the ball in the last series quite well they knew Seattle would be playing run they open up ones first down and throw the ball downfield that's what Glanville was talking about but not being too conservative the man has gone through four quarterback coaches in his four years in Houston but things certainly stabilized with team Jones taking over this season though chased by a dose of coke bottle bomb Ernest givins a nice one those rolling complete he was out of bounds and well Jenkins did the job on Gibbons early and Gibbons first came off the line he he bumped them around a bit and that's why moon had to hold the ball here you could see he makes a fine catch just a little bit too far out of the moon wanted to get the ball to Gibbons early in jenkins head we just wouldn't let him do it was given second year player from Louisville chromatic stream Lee quit can catch the ball second and ten now at the Seattle 43 147 left first quarter Seahawks seven dr. Rosen Jakob Reeve a left defensive end the tackle of Mike Rozier if Seattle advances to the AFC divisional playoffs they will play at Cleveland next Saturday January 9th now Houston wins they will play at Denver next Sunday January the 10th Seattle and Cleveland did not meet the season Houston did play Denver and a replacement game enemy number three the Seattle her students first time well now this isn't a take off of the old run-and-shoot type offense they bring Givens in motion across here actually hill they have three receivers flooded on this side now Seattle doesn't make the adjustment to get up on top of given they put a tremendous amount of pressure on you by bringing those three quick receivers to one side and then rolling Moon out as well now we're talking about hill and Givens Danka 4:22 Ziya welcome booths by rho0 father for the hello another Houston first Rosia set this play up by running inside two or three times they get outside the folks expect them to cut back inside gets a good block by Highsmith on the inside linebacker and hello okay a total battery cutter is going to wonder whose side his guys are playing on they hit for opening I stuck with Rosie rockin the oil as this first corner cuts consider the dog Seahawks suffered almost three so I don't want to be understood no no knock it all on my guys as we resume with the second quarter getting underway the Oilers have a second and three out of the four yard line Seattle seven and Houston three 20 yard touchdown to launch it last week against Cincinnati to the goal naked gets help from number 32 alonzo highsmith in 63 1 check I had a good talk with Mike hollaback the player personnel man of the this last week and he says pink it would be Spartan for most other teams around Haley said another angle of pink is running through a huge hole there Robinson number 41 saved the touchdown for the Thief stop short I don't know move once a try this anymore today he takes a good lick from the linebackers in here a general philosophy that you have a tough kind of coach guy who likes to play that's passion football that you should get him to fake that half a yard with the quarterback but hey this is the NFL you have to give defense Bacon's gone second I go from the room look for those here collection beautiful I'll sweet it is it sureties pushes the Oh the Oilers have taken a 10-7 lead the Seahawks Houston Oilers have taken a 10-7 lead on the Seattle Seahawks 48 yards capped off by the beautiful change of direction one-yard run by Mike Rozier and Tory is in de Haas getting set kick it off he's been kicking off the last five weeks since the departure of Lee Johnson by Joe Evans his goal line and again strong comfort by Houston led by back up linebacker here's a touchdown but what we saw was trick hunts on the sidelines completing about a clip here you see Rosie every person goes field now if we look to the right side of the screen we'll see number 23 hunter right here right in there right here that's the tip we're talking about that notch was complaining about early second quarter pretty cool push now NASA first down gee yard pickup ray putler making the cash here's coach doc he's very upset Chuck salat and the official didn't see at that time but hey I still think the run was worth the touchdown you know Rosie that touchdown buddy of Appeal to upper look first I'll double 34 and friggin trouble and now goes war and is broken up Butler the intended receiver per gallon we've gotten word that the play that we've questioned the being a clip on Patrick Hunter was from the side that the block has to be from behind to be a clip the official clearly saw it and said it came from the side so it was a clean touchdown second and ten table 34 three goos sideline for larger by Steve Hall so it will be a third out from the 34 here's a look from the other angle you see the right corner of the screen that's the play that you were referring to yeah you know I really can't tell as from behind it from the side what's important is it wasn't called there run every time out there we can call something I think it was a terrific I don't think it was a clip you know he's just the points are on the board cuts not complaining anymore Peugeot 4:44 incident for Darryl Turner Kenny Johnson on the Blitz and a penalty flag is down no play no snap false start before the snap the left tackle Rhonda mattes fall down the penalty second-year man from the University of Virginia on the top of your screen number 70 you see him leaning back on his heels he wants to get the jump he's afraid number 93 coming from the outside Laos is gonna beat him there he is big Madison six six 365 so the Seattle Seahawks with a fir down and 15 back at the 29 yard line Oilers lead it by the score of 10 seventh annal Seahawks six we're in the regular season AFC West this trickled on coming for the second Houston sack of the day well Laos number 93 Zam and to make these offensive players lean back on their heels as he did the last play with Maddux on the right side of the screen here you'll see number 93 make a nice move on Jo Williams and get in there for the tackle and so the Seahawks in punt formation Ruben Rodriguez from Arizona back with a mystery Johnson's back for Rodriguez good one 41-yard punt and a five got returned a timeout taken with four minutes gone by second quarter FC wild-card game is brought to you by dodge for the ride of your life it's gotta be a dodge by the US Armed Forces it's a great place to start and by McDonald's it's a good time for the great taste Marv Albert Joe Namath from the Astrodome in Houston with four minutes gone by in the second quarter and the others now first down again good field possession starting out from their 41 Houston 10th Seattle 7 I Smith and Rozier so Highsmith breaking tackles and cooing for nine Melvin Jenkins the stop it will set it to a second Houston getting again with terrific field position sure the 20 the 21 that's not bad field position but the 48 whenever they went down to score the first time is good and now at the 41 yard line they don't have far to go those June Jones in the white shirt the quarterback coach of the Oilers this is his first year with the Oilers in what a trouble Rozier Academy the inside linebacker it is a loss of three fred young is a texan he hails from Dallas who leads the Seahawks with a hundred and one tackles making it to the Pro Bowl for a third time has had another sensational season we're down at 4:00 back at the 47 let's go with the four wide receivers with the short scent and completes good hands Curtis Gibbons so the church by Givens his second of the day just a terrific catch Givens go straight down building crosses the middle you'll see them coming from the right side to the left side of the screen and watch hi stretches out here gets oh what a good kid Bosworth make sure that he's down for 13 on the play Houston Oilers have won their last two three out of the last four the one loss of 24 attack the slang three our game Eugene Robinson of the free safety combining with Bosworth Appa stop Bosworth does have excellent speed I was told yesterday that the Seahawks have clocked him in a 40-yard Stretton 4.5 seconds you know that's a little bit faster than Steve large but Bosworth's problem this season has been adjusting to the pro type offenses it's been said he's taking the blockers on with the wrong shoulders I think he has a lot to think about out there and he's going to be an outstanding linebacker forty-seven got the time so short outside linebacker the stopper his first thought of three strany Hollywood's the rookie from the University of Pittsburgh have been in the starting lineup Houston now looking at a third down and one at the Seattle 31 Houston 10 Seattle 7 and the AFC forty-five the first half it was recovered covered by fried balls woman I don't know why the fumble occurred I can't quite see it here the ball hits them pretty good in the midsection but it looked as though it bounced away from his ribcage maybe the ball wasn't quite far enough in the old breadbasket it kind of hits him on the side and a little bit up high here it's reaching for the ball you know running backs aren't supposed to reach for the ball a field goal attempt present-day Haas from 49 47 is 21 427 from Wayne 49 yard field goal and Houston lead Seattle 14-7 ah says excelled from long range and that 73% includes the two that he hit today one from 47 and one from 49 of the Oilers with a 13-7 lead on the Seahawks 645 to go first half 30 yard line without bounds by Eugene seal mr. Tyler's this first half have had the ball 17 and a half minutes and on the ground they have certainly done it with the combination of Highsmith and Rozier first down from have not been able to get going there is a swing to Williams receivers all over by the outside linebacker Johnny means well the oil is played that well they had that thing read from the beginning NEADS Beach has the best speed of any of the onna linebackers but he doesn't really need it here you can see that Craig looks over here to the right side of me just right there waiting on just it all out defensive play by the way a cup of two second date Williams break Chloe sideline we stripped by Steve Brown the world Roger almost pulled off fevering hey this is the third straight play that I've seen Steve Brown just be all over the receiver Brown is playing a tremendous game look at this large it made a great cut to get outside there but Brown is still in there trying to get the ball away from in an excellent position here you see large you come out of his break in good shape of proud is still right there look at this frigid sensational her down Seattle from its 32 and almost picked off again by brown Steve wasn't upset we found like brown head home I was trying to get in Brown was holding him up a little bit had his hands bumping him around two months but obviously the official didn't see it and disagree with Steve while the coaching staff feels that their corner men are among the best in the NFL Steve Brown and Patrick Allen Jerry Glanville says they don't get the publicity of course you'll hear that throughout the league I think it was I was doing the talking and again the situation Johnson is back - the way so Houston gets the ball back with five and a half remaining in this first half of 35 yard punt by Rodriguez you know looking at this graphic Marv that tells me that the Oilers were a little bit nervous to start this game with you know play a little apprehensive and the Seahawks were under control they made the first drive did a good job and the Oilers they've loosened up they came back and shut him down these last three series the game so far to me is being controlled by that Houston oiler offensive line they're getting good running from the running back - Mike Munchak J Penniston Chris Matthews cool or upfront down from the 34 recording Seattle's first sack other days so games getting to moon they tell you well we talked about Highsmith did a good blocker you know schools still out on them I want you to watch games just run right over top of Highsmith there you are welcome to the NFL buddy and then gain still makes the tackle loss of eight on the play off the sack second out 18 from the 26 the defensive coordinators berikut cops 15 years through all three stops puts up cops Buffalo Los Angeles it''s had some words with the seahawks a 12 yard pickup saw Brian Bosworth and Charles roams a new addition to the squad satis as a free agent given zero upset Cuddy I'm just activated today so you know he's exuberant excited he's playing with a lot of enthusiasm but that was a late lick that time by wrong from the 37c the time for 20 first half boom throwing the better slightly off tonker true hill the intended receiver covered by the right quarter Patrick Hunter now Houston and punt formation a reminder to our viewers will be selecting the but wiser most valuable player for today's game at the conclusion of the game first punt of the day for Jeff Gossett we're told that the Seahawks will be looking to come up with a block on the outside man Patrick hunters Sam Merryman number 50 water comes from the middle also very effective let's see how they play it come Lilly picked it off Bobby Jo Evans Kasich was blocked Evans actually was tripped up and then gonna Jeff gusset got a piece of a 46-yard pot at a 54-yard returned by eopns who has led the AFC the past two years and punt returns well the Oilers didn't get down field to cover this as you said Seahawks were gonna try and block the punt the Oilers on their formation got so jumbled in and bunched in they didn't get downfield and Edmonds just makes a wonderful return 54 yards Houston mr. 13 Seattle 7 in the backfield Mara saw the handoff reaching out near the 15 Childress on the stop Randall Marseille four-year man from the University of Tennessee handling it for the first time now what the Seahawks have done as they've gone back to putting Jarnell williams at fullback and morris at halfback the other combination of using tony burst and Jarnell wasn't working but i see they've just put burst back into the game I'm not too sure they should do that that they were successful with this sex at the 15 Oh that's succeeded John al Williams which physic something you rarely see the Seahawks play he went for the unpredictable play that's right we don't see many running backs that could pass the ball but if he throws this thing now if he gets it off a little earlier then number 31 Donaldson doesn't get over there to deflect the ball just slightly away from just slightly break up the play such Oh Britt Chloe in zone what a catch but he's you go to play against basta he is the pick play man for the Seahawks here you have to have both feet inbounds and he never did get the right foot down in time he certainly had Steve Brown beaten that time watch his right foot it won't get down on he's had a subtleties fifteen of 20 Johnson connects so the field goal kickers have had themselves excellent first they house at a tree from long range and now Johnson from 33 yards out and closes that Houston League teams had the store with three minutes ten seconds in the first half Johnson getting set to kick it off well NBC sports world has gone to every corner of the globe to bring you the very best in sports action so sports world enters its jib here they bring you one of the premier sporting events on ice the interest sweet world professional figure skating championships you'll see Scott Hamilton and Robin cousins and spectacular ice dancing plus a look back at ten years of memories it's all coming up NBC sports world January the 24th Marv Albert Joe Namath packed house at the Astrodome this a good year for dome teams five of the six teams that play in dogs made it to the playoffs Joe only Detroit and British Columbia British Columbia here is picnic boss the 25 Rome's the stop spotted at the 24-yard line the Houston Oilers first down and 10 from the 24 here's the special teams coach for the Seahawks rusty Tillman who you might say gets involved when his guys are on the field rusty knows how important two special teams are to the outcome of a game and he's an emotional man he could Rozier at a short game Mike Rozier opened up running very well picked up to Jacob green on the stop here's rusty Tillman and the blue sweater giving his boys some direction on how to behave out there this has not been one of the better years for the Seattle special teams in the past though they have been among the best in the NFL five to go those first hand hold on the sidelines on completes the hill covered through Hills eight season out of Georgia Tech outstanding addition to the Oilers acquire three years ago on a trade with the Los Angeles Rams and it appears he's calling for a timeout ducking the extra play before the no that's silly that's why I coaches doll that wide receivers they thought they called timeouts the kid didn't know what he wanted to do and apparently it did run down to the two-minute warning I don't know if we get charged for the timeout at any rate we'll take a break back after this five-year-old Chuck puck Seattle head coach 5th season with Seattle 15th year as an NFL head coach in ten of those 15 years he's made it to the playoffs and he's won six distant first down from there 33 with four Houston first down phosphoric Oh Kevin's just running across that zone defense they know that Seattle is going to be in a zone coverage next the curricular acted maybe to block up once in a while the Bosworth is a tough man in a big man I know Givens is tough but too slight mismatch and the Houston Oilers have been involved in several skirmishes gibbons this time was a Hall down by a by Bosworth who one handed him and apparently did not like the treatment on the back of the jersey full of kittens didn't like this Bosworth did the smart thing he tried to hold Gibbons down a little bit longer he wants to run that clock and force the Oilers into a hurry-up type offense so Bosworth was doing the right thing as a ballplayer Gibbons just lost his cool a little bit don't no harm done 36 136 clock is gonna readjust that if chose one twenty-seven and apparently it wasn't correct the official time 136 left in this first tab now in this situation Houston Oilers were the team that was not the intimidate clubs like these Steelers of the 49ers in the Saints of the Colts at charge that the Oilers are a dirty football team now they say they play with a lot of emotion what's your reaction reading what the players have to say about these guys talking to coach Barth quarterback coach of the Seattle Houston's not a dirty team I made a couple of guys once in a while go ahead and deliver a balcony shouldn't deliver a hard dock tries to play within the rules and it was the hard-hitting team Knox's hey I want my team to hit like this Houston defense is hitting last week the Cincinnati Bengals said there was nothing dirty about the boilers the consensus was yes they tackle hard and they do play a high-strung but you may recall the situation several weeks ago when Chuck Noll was upset with Jerry Glanville at the end of their ball game Chuck no felt that the some of the Houston players took cheap shots at some of his players and the Jerry Glanville pointed out one of their players misbehave a little bit but I know Gladwell doesn't teach that type of stuff that goes on once and Wow it's just we have 45 ballplayers on one team out there a guy gets a little excited he doesn't hear a whistle these guys on the Phase II out there I mean it's a tough game you know it's Killa B killed always control these players emotions but they don't teach our coach dirty football so you're very compassionate right now but if someone asked you in your day about it and your good friends on the Oakland Raiders didn't have any except Fred Biletnikoff right they a dirty team yes they were dirty and we have proof of the film that that was yesteryear who cares now resume 46 to go in this first half the play was blown dead we have had very few penalties number 70 happens McElwee referee calling the false start on the right tackle Dean Stein Coola stay in a number one pick in his fourth season the folk rascal that's the second time we've seen an offensive tackle get started a little early again the reason they do that they kind of fall back on their heels because they're so concerned with the outside pressure of the pass rush they don't want to be beaten right away to the outside so they get the rolling back on the hills fifteen they're 46 with a minute and thirty three remaining in this first half amazing how pen Ibiza make things just slow down come to a stop here's back away again and he is coming over to the sidelines of talk with Chuck Cox we'll be a first 1:36 timer will hold the clock for three seconds a line judge will then start the time at that time so still having trouble with the clocking bill to explain to boxing 13350 136 so you want to start spreading what is easy to stockholders and a Frozr taking the snap one of the gadget plays news finally the others but it did not work Bosworth right there to yard pick up he's the only guy that wasn't fooled on it Bosworth he made a fine play and a timeout call by Houston off the screen was deflected rozier Jacob green the left defensive end number 79 piece of it one of the worst looking screens I've seen in a long time I mean the quarterback is supposed to be a bit of an actor on this thing go back set up make it look like drop back pass watch this moon doesn't make it look like it just the drop back hold pass anytime he's rolling out here all the way the defense is flowing out there with him that's a strange-looking play to me the University of Washington never played against Seattle one of the club's interest would have more than scientists Edwin pista ice hatch by Willie stop by David Hollis this is a first down a 15-yard gain got his running coming up on a minute to go in the first half he split across the Seahawk 38 to turn Gunston at all Eugene Robinson the coverage but the clock is stopped well I'll tell you Patrick hunter did a good job on drew Hill that time wouldn't allow him to get inside to get to the area that's why it didn't appear that there was a receiver close by the ball there's Patrick hunter he's got a busy day with these little receivers running around out there but he's been doing a pretty good job so far I'd say I'm surprised too the way Jenkins has been playing he's been covering well for the Seahawks he has been a target Melvin Jenkins starting at the left corner for the inter Terry Taylor safety that second at the Seattle 38 8 seconds to go on the half after stepping up goes it complete and he'll the intended receiver Curtis Duncan also down feel we had a lot of time that last play and it's a little surprising and I guess alarming to the Seahawks because they tried to blitz in that time there you see Jerry Glanville talking to the offensive coach with their hat on the offensive line coach Jim Hilton and June Jones to his left the brain rust of the oiler offense gotas 11-man for 1,760 yards perceptive watts comes across he has stopped after picking up three brian bosworth outstanding first half at the tackle he stayed right at home he wasn't fooled with any of the motion of the flow he stayed there and make a good tackle unthinking the Oilers will go for another long-range field goal now zijn de Haas has hit from 47 49 this one will be from 52 yards away and earlier in his career it hit as far as 52 Tonio Sunday Haas and his third year at a and a timeout is called but the clock worked down to two seconds left and this first half Jerry Glanville would like this to be the final play we're looking at Brian Bosworth over there on the bench concerned concerned with his left leg I believe I can't really tell from here but they're working on something yeah he's got his left leg up there doesn't appear that he's too happy about it here's the last play you see number 55 coming from the right of your screen Brian Bosworth make the good play I don't see anything here to happen to him on the play here's to be fine right there boss had a strong game recently created another stir saying that he has not been having fun place yet happy playing the weak inside the most uncomfortable the upright souls and de Haas were connected from 47 forty hi the connect 452 here's another look he thought he had it all he hit a good bar from this distance it's gone through he knows it's going through he's happy about it right oh but it hits the top of the upright let's see what happened to Tony he thinks he had it but no and here it is that clothes off oh boy from 52 good first half here at the dome the Oilers 13 the Seahawks 10 we'll be back after these words from your local station welcome back to our NFL live studios in New York I'm Bob Costas joined for the postseason by the coach of the Dolphins Don Shula will get his comments on the first half in just a moment and we'll also check with Ahmad and Paul there at the Astrodome first of all let's take a look at some of the highlights with Houston in front 13 tens and a hoss with that 47 yard of the 49 yard and the narrow miss on the 52 yarder to conclude the half the Blue Wave at the Astrodome the fans have come back with the Oilers now in the playoffs now watch them test Melvin Jenkins playing for the injured Terry Taylor at a corner they try and go deep here to Ernest givins but Jenkins is equal to the task he comes up with the interception in the first quarter and from there it's Seattle ball and they'll cash it in for the first touchdown look at margin in motion on the play Craig is able to elude the rush Largent comes back the other way the screen is set up he makes the catch and then some great moves dives to the corner of the end zone yes 7 nothing in favor of the Seahawks it was 7 to 3 afters in dejas his first field goal second and goal at the 1 this sets the record for longest distance covered to get credit for one yard Mike Rozier to the left back the other way gets a good block into the end zone he goes and they take the lead at 10 to 7 Zende Haase makes it 13 to 7 but the special teams of the Seahawks chip in here Jeff Gossett punts Bobby Jo Edmonds takes it for Seattle and returns it better than 50 yards however the effort of Gossett at the other end is worth noting two Seahawk blockers wipe him out but he still gets in on the play and he makes Edmonds jump over the pile and that's where it ends that leads to enorm Johnson field goal of 32 yards 1310 but on the pregame show we mentioned John L Williams would have to fill in for Kurt Warner it hasn't happened 6 yards total rushing for the Seahawks well you can see that that they're trying to get done with Jarnell wins what they were able to do last year with Kurt Warner I said that last year the Seattle was one of the best teams it wasn't in the playoffs and the big reason was that Kurt Warner was having such a fantastic year and now you can see that they're trying to get that done with John L here's the handoff to John L and he struggles to get back to the line of scrimmage this makes them completely abandon their rushing game and any time Chuck Knox is taken out of his ground control rushing game then he's doing some things that he doesn't want to do now you can tell it's playoff time this is Fred Young on kickoff coverage this is an all-pro linebacker Bob covering the kickoff he made the Pro Bowl as a special teams player when he was a rookie but now he continues to cover kickoffs as an all-pro linebacker the problem going into the ball game for Houston was Seattle's ability to convert on third down you can see that Houston is handling Seattle on third down Craig goes back to pass he slips the rush gets to him in another critical third down situation they put the rush on with just one linebacker blitzing five people going after the quarterback good coverage in the secondary Craig back the rush gets to him and again Houston wins in that critical third down situation and then in a play right before the half they overshoot Turner in the end zone where they had the good opportunity to score and that shows you that Houston is handling Seattle's third down offense something else about Houston as their running game is on a pretty good job during the first half you know when they were down all those years they used those draft choices and they got Stein cooler and they got Munchak and they got bruce matthews they pick up a guy like Jay Penniston the young center as a free agent that is a good offensive line that's how you quietly build a football team you have to have those people up front and when you take them it's not a spectacular thing but you need the big people up front to protect the quarterback they go out and get mooned then they have the quarterback then they come up with the receivers Givens and people like that and this is how they put this football team together elaborate a little bit everybody knows Warner is a great one a Pro Bowl quality guy when healthy but you said on the pregame that he was the most valuable player in the league toward the end of 86 I felt that way last year I watched Curt Warner in some big games for him and he was doing things that no other running back was doing at that time and hugh seattle was certainly one of the strongest teams but they hadn't played well early and they got knocked out of the playoff picture so they were watching at home with one of the truly great players in the National Football League not being able to play in the playoffs in Kurt Warner and now he's out of it again because of injuries knocked out of the playoff picture now surprisingly are the New Orleans Saints they had won nine in a row they were a significant favorite at home against the Vikings who backed into the layoffs who would have thought that the Vikings would do it this easily well there is the Saints profit trying to lead the congregation but they were led right down the chute with six turnovers today it started out well Kramer fumbled for Minnesota the Saints got it a bear hits Eric Martin there in front seven nothing it's seven three still in the first quarter when Anthony Carter takes over he fields the punt by Bryan Hansen and he doesn't stop until 84 yards have been covered and the Vikings are in front 10 to 7 they are never headed from there it was all Minnesota we're gonna talk about Anthony Carter and the fact that Don Shula could have had him but worked the deal with the Vikings that comes up in a minute watch this razzle-dazzle the pitch to rice he throws to Carter for the touchdown at that point it was 24/7 they still haven't reached halftime Jim Mora can't believe it things are going right for Jerry burns yeah you could have had Carter well but at the time we needed some linebacker help so I traded Carter's rights to Minnesota for a linebacker and the linebacker Robin said line got heard I also got a draft choice in the deal I traded that the Tampa Bay for Hugh Green and everybody thought that that was the great trade including Don Shula but Hugh got hurt and he hasn't been able to perform the way that I thought that he would be capable of performing for us so Anthony Carter is gone and our linebackers are hurt you deal where you have surplus the one area where your overstocked is wide receiver you had duper and Clayton you have to do what you think is right at the time that you do it and it didn't work out for us and Carter is helping Minnesota everything worked out today from Minnesota in a 44 10 win including this play they get one last chance for a play at the end of the first half and they go with the Hail Mary play Wade Wilson will throw it up high in just hope there's a whole group there and watch as Shawne Jones yes thank you very much 44 yard touchdown they took a 31 10 lead to the locker room now if you're a Viking fan that probably seemed familiar because sure enough it happened in a big game that clinched the division title back in 1980 this is a play you've seen frequently on NFL live we sometimes open the program with it it involves our own Ahmad Rashad the call by Charlie Jones hey with time and obviously Ahmad has been tutoring Hassan Jones on that particular play let's go to the Astrodome and learn the secret Ahmad is with Paul McGuire the problem is you can't run the football I guess yours because of Warner we talked about that the beginning and then when you have to go to gadget when you're looking at this like this on you here what is oh this is the bar this is the blockbuster they're going with the Boz I did a double Buster Orleans but Houston comes down they score I mean it's the outcomes down they scored in a game like this when you score first it just seems like you've really got all the momentum but Houston came right back here's the knows that Seattle they can't run the football and what Seattle's doing is they're going to gadget place and I call this a gadget play you've got Largent that they put in motion a mod in and all of a sudden take a look what he does here here folks large nad gonna block Lyles on the outside he hides himself in the line of scrimmage Larson makes the block here then he comes back and gets in the screen look at the hole the only offensive linemen come across larger gets in the screen and it's touchdown now they try to run pass for a touchdown they just can't get the ball in the end zone unless they use a gadget what about other used inside Mike Rozier is that a pretty good first step couple years early people said well Mike Rinder he's so-so whatever happened to her but let's watch him on his touchdown run here he runs to the left he can't find anything open over here so he redirects his group and goes down the other end and gets in the end zone and I think his blade is really carrying over to the other back hi sniffing pika yeah I spent you know what Pickett ran the ball through and it almost looked like he had a touchdown he was about this much short and when they came up on the kickoff he's on the outside and I was standing there and I said Alan he said I know they don't they don't pay and not the score they paid the sport he says you got to get the endzone now Houston is dominating the statistics but still only a three point game you don't know statistically in time of possession I know that you and I don't like the time of possession it's what you do with the ball when you have it and Houston has done what the heck scored almost except for the last time every time they've had it yeah and you take a look at Seattle they had that one drive scored right away then they didn't do anything and I think they had like four yards in three possessions come on and then all of a sudden you get you get a punt return puts them in field position and they only get a field goal out of it the Seattle Seahawks just cannot run the ball against Houston and if they can't run the ball they can't win this ballgame they miss Kurt Warner something terrible but now we'll go to the second half and use it in situations like this when even though you've been dominating the statistics and you're only three points down the other team comes back and they're usually the team that wins the game do you think Seattle can do that I don't think so Moon's too hot the moon is having a super day down here bobbing if he continues to play like he has in the first half I think Houston may move on if Houston moves on Maguire can go with them just promise to ditch the earrings I like them better in the capri pants on the red punch those are a little more flattering I'm not walking very closely with the hiragana the NFC's next round is set after Minnesota surprise victory today at New Orleans Minnesota's got to go to Candlestick for another stiff test San Francisco will be about a 10 or 11 point favorite Chicago is about a four point favorite at home in the next round all of the Redskins third quarter from the Astrodome coming up as we continue following these messages from your local station I get the Astrodome in Houston where the Oilers lead the Seahawks by the score of 14 to 10 and Paul Ahmad were talking about the minimal production of the Seattle Seahawks you look at the stats Seattle had 53 of their 62 total yards on the second and third play of the game the 33 yard pass from Craig to lodgin and then the 20 yard touchdown pass to logic will have been talking about this Houston offensive line their defensive line and linebackers are really controlling the line of scrimmage also but Seattle can't be too upset you know they've only given up the field goals they're still in the game they're only behind by three and they've played probably the worst football they could play so I know Chuck knocks at halftime got to say hey look guys you're playing like dogs out there right now but you're only three points down so hey let's get back on our game we'll be able to take these guys have 19 production from John L Williams he's carried the ball three times for two yards they're featured back for the first time this year but the absence of Curt water and he's the guy in the spotlight well and burst to the full-back young rookie number 34 this is his first start I'm sure the nerves were bothering him and he's not getting a blocking but again the offensive line or those are the guys that have to control the game the games are still won and lost in the trenches he has been going with the purse and Williams most of the way we saw Randall Mars briefly on the positive side for the Seattle Seahawks has been the plate rookie linebacker Brian Bosworth a name that we have been calling throughout the first half oh he's been all over the place he hasn't been fooled and he draw plays he's been there for the cut backs Bosworth is having a good game so a 14 to 10 lead for the Houston Oilers at the half and with just a couple minutes away from the start of play in the third quarter the second half kickoff is brought to you by wise King de Haas getting set to kick it to papi Joep ins david hauless they us two of three the long range of the first path 47:52 right before the end of the half reaching out to the 25-yard line as this third quarter gets underway going for 25 yards Eric fairs on the tackle we see the statistics here and certainly the Oilers are dominating things but what we don't see in statistics are the outstanding plays made one by Steve Brown I've seen him break up a couple of long passes too large that just been marvelous plays nearly making the interception the Oilers are playing well defensively and again their offensive lines controlling things want to return person 10 after the penalty saw the penalty marker kickoff return the referee pop McElwee has had a very quiet game to this point Seahawks is going to have to start moving the ball I can see great hitting some short passes to give his offensive line great not having with focus for the sidelines and they go to the ground for bars so average three and a half per carry during the regular season picked up two Doug Smith the nose tackle number 99 on the stop but Morris carried the ball only 21 times during the regular season the Seahawks have certainly been held in check they really haven't had that poor field position sure they started on a 17 and 19 once but with the other decent field position the rest of the time but the 17 two plates but a short advance Williams on the catch but the left corner Steve Brown was right there you know like I say the Seahawks would like to give their offensive time better feel for this deal you know throw the quick passes but the Oilers are just doing a good job defensively see Hawks foreplay which they have really been in the rough situation all day long but they picked it up right here we put the first out of some more we put on the extra defensive back on the stopper 27 yard advance and Seattle for the first down from there 44 Craig gets the little time here he still throws the quick pass gets it inside to Butler who got inside of Patrick the defensive back and here you see them again Patsy Allen run by Butler found from the 44 get that rascal right there in the middle of the screen over the ball he pushes feasel back toward the quarterback and it looks like bird number 71 makes the block look at Doug Smith trying to get a handle on it doesn't bounce like a basketball no it's a football from before t-ball proud of you first down Paul Stanzi with his first reception of the day picked up John Grimsley the inside linebackers combining with strong safety Keith Bostick on the tackle it'll be a forgotten fourth 12 and a half remaining in this third quarter there is scan Z with your player from the University of Washington earlier this week and was thought he'd be out for a jobber problem that's a logic and motion we're going the other way and complaint Hawks will drop back in formation chief Bostick clapping he's happy at Chuck Knox isn't and Dave Craig isn't too happy either Keith Bostick the strong safety of the Oilers just wouldn't let scat to get back into his pattern and stansson Craig just had a miscommunication there but it was because of Bostick separate Rodrigues as come on as the season has progressed getting set the punt to Kenny Johnson bouncing back inside as 15 down inside the five Regis has put 17 fonts inside the opponents sorry about the leaders in that department and the AFC and did the job right here off a 46-yard punt the AFC wild card game is brought to you by BMW the ultimate driving machine to arrange a thorough test drive on your nearest BMW dealer bike words the beer with a difference worth tasting Morris is the one by Shearson Lehman Brothers an EF Hutton joining together to serve the serious investor Marv Albert Joe Namath's from the Astrodome in Houston and the author sought out for the tight end Jimmy Williams that's the first time he has looked in that direction yeah Williams doesn't figure into the past feds very often but there's big Jacob green number 79 he's not getting much of a pass rush on you are in moon and this is what the Seahawks are getting some pass rush on the last pass it was a good example of moon not putting the kind of touch on the ball that you'd like them to do born 11 for 18 with 16 yards second down and 10 Rozier 4-yard advance the nose tackle John Nash the stop Houston and Seattle have not met since back in 1982 the final game of the year Houston won at 23 21 now if Houston had lost that ballgame they would have had the number one pick in the draft john elway what he have signed with the Houston Oilers and they call it seven over the antenna receiver a three-year ban from West Virginia goes only five-foot-seven want Eugene Robinson on the coverage of jewelry there's Freddie Robinson 41 but what an excellent job the Oilers offensive line and Beck's did that time picking up the Blitz can he easily came from the middle and Bosworth from the other side still gave moon the time to get the ball downfield at noon been a little more accurate that had the big Gator Bobby Joe Edmonds conformation for me the second time we had a 54-yard return first gossip puck this one goes 44 yards 40 yard and we will take a break see Baker Houston's all-time sacked leader the only member of the Oilers who was ripped to squad the last time they were in the playoffs back in 1980 the repeat by the Raiders 27-7 of the AFC wild card the FLDS Houston want the American Football League championship those first three years in 16 1961 for mr. forties the Seahawks with good field position for staff the position 39 play-action pray quipped I'm afraid able to complete stop the 6-yard pick up Baris coming out of the backfield the second down the toys saw daylight for the first time it has a first down free safety Jeff Donaldson on the stop John al Williams ripping off ten yards first round draft pick out of Florida last year going pretend well this got to get some life to the Seahawks it's the first time they've been able to break anything up the middle and this 31 Donaldson making the tackle get some enthusiasm by only three of got it statistically have a first down from the 23 the other side mark ivs the outside the tacho bez needs a walk-on as a freshman at Nicholls State in his fourth year NFL he's played well coming up with four sacks the last last year for V surgery he analyzed the outside that have been outstanding firms Lee and Smith inside defense from the crowd and pistol territory play coy why the cover but the play was made by Grimsley the linebacker Allah with the other linebacker I didn't get his number but they forced great to throw that ball early Gregg had he thrown a knackered pass however big John L would have been able to gain some good yardage at times just quarterbacks are not going the ball accurately today firstly goes to the sideline the history 20 pray going long the past an alternative way man for the Seahawks to receive it it's wide open we have to just really be angry with yourself no Craig doesn't feel good about this that's two plays in a row he's missed an open receiver now how do you think Craig feels about it that ought to tell you something he just missed six points because Turner is open behind Steve Brown the Seahawks for the 4th and 10 41 yard field goal norm Johnson or hit from 43 if Franken the Seattle Seahawks it has been the same pattern he and the Seahawks have been consistently inconsistent they Craig Hill jekyll-and-hyde quarterback right now eggs hot they're going to get some points on the board but he's been missing open receivers he just did a moment ago so they had a settle for the field goal and all of Johnson did tracked from 41 yards away it has been excellent day for both field goal kickers Johnson they house Johnson serene as a 15-yard line turn 450 yards Houston to the offense well the frowns of the Broncos Battlement me to their sets since today's game triggers their opponents next weekend at the Seahawks win today the Browns will be their next opponent Saturday face the ground you see sports down from the 16 8 minutes 14 seconds with any third quarter tie game at 13 I spent a whole alonzo highsmith 4p from the University of Miami 4:16 all down by the combination of easily Anna Robinson Bosworth can get anywhere cuz Munchak the guard is on him and they opened a huge hole bosworth number 55 will get pushed past the play by number 63 Munchak Rozier Highsmith box another impressive whoo Alvin Jenkins the stop wire loom with a long Kathy Arthur's like to use much of the 30-second clock Highsmith shake it up and we've seen moon go to the Long Count more and more here in the third quarter here you see Highsmith get the bone jump over number 56 trying to get in there or number 58 Schultz the linebacker now watch his left leg he hurt his left leg somehow no can't tell quite what it is but here he steps through the hole nicely Oh right there it looked like he came down on his left blade it just gave way on him so they are checking out the status of Alonzo Highsmith and we'll take a break back after these words the indication that he is all right Iseman shaken up if I want to go over place to the backfield by ray Wallace here's how it happened all right now we're gonna stop this to show you where he hurts that left knee right here right there you see the cut the knee kind of goes to the inside a little bit and it collapsed on him a little bit you see how he lost his balance came down the fall of his weight on that left leg that's trained a little bit and rosier have combined for a solid ballgame second and four as we resume Houston from their 38 puts up the first down ray Wallace year what for my easy it's through lunch a comparison again opening the holes with number 74 Matthews leading away here we have the umpire a game Brett Stewart taking it forty seven six five three he got away with that once on the touchdown run but Eugene Robinson stayed right with them and the end result a loss eight yards right here we pause briefly for station identification this is the NBC television network the Astrodome in Houston Texas the AFC wild card game Seattle and Houston tied at 13 Marv Albert with Joe Namath five and a half to go and the third quarter and the other is now second at 1839 vamos the defensive back I'll go stop on to yard for Houston first down what happens the Oilers flood that left side of the field everyone goes over there down the field and stop he just had a pattern where he ran straight ahead and just stopped third catch of the day for the five-foot seven through the report on alonzo highsmith bruised knee and he will be back the Seattle 42 yard line Capricia this time for the students for Houston first half 17 yards on the play whoa looking sharp miss Givens is hurt he took a hard hit there from Jenkins the cornerback a good clean hit given just goes downfield breaks inside of Jenkins to think that makes the play as the pass protection but you'll see Jenkins come into your view from the left side and really rockin here Evans with his fifth catch of the game Houston medical staff checking out Ernest givins knocks of the Seattle Seahawks now I got the Oilers today without Curt water back home in the Seattle after sprained his ankle last week against the Kansas City Chiefs this game is the property of the National Football League all rights reserved and this telecast is presented by authority of the NFL it is intended for the private use of our audience any rebroadcast throughout the use of this telecast without the express written consent of the Houston Oilers and the National Football League is prohibited Ernest givins second-round draft pick last season and an outstanding year 61 catches may the all-rookie team papa fire crews ribs all season long from the corner man Alvin Jenkins good bothered by the bruised red a direct hit on him they can't afford to lose he'll or given Gibbons has to leave the game now but if he can't get back in there that will really hurt the Euler often elo split right I do so first out at the Seattle 26 Wallace off the slab in four yards ray Wallace replacing alonzo highsmith double plays back all day by Jeff clients here's Facebook checking back in for the second and seventh down at the Seattle 23 I spent her toes v following about 16 yard run alonzo highsmith the last week ran for 61 yards against Cincinnati and as you just saw another outstanding day for corner the time notice for behind did not see Jeff Bryant coming from his left so the second sack of the day for the Seahawks number 77 Jeff Bryan gets by Munchak number 63 here in the top of the screen you see him with a nice reverse pivot and getting inside I don't know how moon was able to hold on to that ball was a terrific job by him not fumbling while six on the play Jeff Bryant at four sacks during the regular season he had a big playoff game against the Raiders back in the 883 AFC championship game recovering oh snap a 25 yard touchdown pass play boom first of all with a nice pinch of alone Oh a step Hey look does help here you watch Melvin Jenkins 24 he's back there but the ball is inside just nicely to the pasture the touchdown here at the astral woman fairway with his first stop kill infants how does a man react when he catches his first NFL touchdown while at least Willie foolery reacts that fashion is fuzzy three seasons five mr. 20 see number 16 takes it covered by the free safety chef donaldson well I don't know when abutment heard footsteps are not that time to certainly be Patrick Allen to the inside it just come down fake a little Street patterned and break inside in the middle of the field now he sees Donaldson coming he saw him whenever he made the break sure he wasn't worried about Donaldson short setup and completes it nice catch by Steve Steve Largent things get gone tough you go to the guy you can count on since up gets the ball in and good shape a big defense Seahawks first down from 30 minute 39 left third quarter we've by 7 that's to the crown for Jarnell William Smith the taco Williams went for five yards on the play another injury Doug Smith the nose tackle Smith made the tackle he's number 99 right in the middle of your screen you see him fall back over here and reach out and that's where he hurts his hand I guess had he not made that play have been about three or four more yards game timeout is taken we'll be back here in Houston Marcus starter at free day and has been getting the time with the authors because of Doug Smith hampered by injuries throughout the season those certainly hold the ball right throughout that opening drive Seattle was their hatred crossed over 7:13 Oh where he goes sideline launcher they have a catch and then had a notion to pick up some War three gallon antipasto providing to stop a 16-yard pass play all timing this time margin starts Preston Allen to make it seem like he's going to run the Gaul and then he breaks out the balls already in the air right there's no way Allen could have stopped that pass Steve Largent originally drafted by Houston that was here we see it from the reverse angle Jaya Williams leaps over the defensive line get some yardage but number 31 picture the ball was loose before Donaldson hit him picks it up and you hope he thought about laddering I rascal but no I better hold on to him Randall Mars made the tackle so take over at the Seattle four seconds left cricket in the FIR but a flag has been thrown Rikki's on the stop for called against Houston here's referee bob McElwee we've got al Williams holding number 52 no first time hold on the settle J person this first quarter came to a close will be sent back to a first and 15 at the 40-yard line so that is the end verse four fifteen we'll be back after these messages from your local station on the fumble by John l Williams he'll watch it's actually caused by his old man he gets up in the air here now right here you see that while most going with the combination of Pinkett and Highsmith picked up nine on the play Jarnell Williams to the right a nano recovered Keith Boston the strong safety first time making it as a reserve of this infest season of those five year career out of the University of Michigan give us who took that shot and the rim sir here is almost intercepted he actually threw it in the direction of two defenders and great games at the shot at the intended receiver Dru Hill well the receiver was wide open but moon doesn't get the ball over number 56 his head right here you say it's too low hills coming into the picture but it was a bad pass and gains nearly maybe anis well the game was much discussion here in Houston about the lack of playoff experience but he's been under pressure before I don't think nice pass to the outside for through hell Kelvin Dickens we'll stop Oh very snow getting up and they sketch again by the quarterback on a bags they're just a simple crossing pattern by Hill he gets the step on Jenkins makes the good gainer here look good a shot of what it's like to be a quarterback after you throw the of things pick up that whistled during official really sure that the play was wrong there the explanation after we announcing that the play was blown dead now Rozier is down has been a hard-hitting day we've had very few penalties to on Seattle 2 Houston but a lot of guys are getting banged up hey championship football they're playing hard out there we have some good teams that hit hard here you see Rozier get up in there does he fumble the ball well that's close but they ruled him down it looked like they just took the ball out of his arm it's the good hit Bob Bosworth that's so the hit that probably made him a little bit woozy Greg Young ends up at the ball but the officials already blew it here we have another angle of it we will see if he fumbled the ball or not actually it doesn't make any difference because they've already decided he was down he was down young just took it out of his arm while they are taking a look at it Charlie veturi checking out that stripping of the pole and ruling whether it was for whether to play up to our left we'll see if it's a fumble he has the ball that's if his legs hit the ground he appears to be down well that's close that's a tough call well I'm glad mr. Viteri will make that decision that's the first time we have gone to the instant replay a philosophy to reverse an on-field decision only when the replay official has indisputable visual evidence that would warrant a change see something strange right now on the field both offenses are out there we don't have a defensive team on the field the Seahawks are out there that is similar to after a in the sport of boxing and it's a close decision and both boxers raised their hands in victory so both coaches going with the offense on the field across Houston will keep its offense out there back away replay official Tony Viteri nuts does not appear to be please it's a very important time here you know if Seahawks get the ball they can go down possibly defy the game but if you have to get the ball back to the other side Houston still in scoring position take another look at this from the end zone camera you'll see the yes very difficult call system concentrates on plays a possession or touching the question is was there in dispute of visual evidence the brother was down before he was stripped there was a fumble down by contact was real with the defensive team in possession the Seahawks takeover off the instant for those who argue against instant replay you can say that well here's a championship game that eleven cameras and so you sir so it complete was now the Houston Oilers are certainly well aware of controversial calls in playoff competitions remember this back in 80 AFC championship game disallow the ruling that his second foot did not get down in thousands a question also concerning possession Houston facial larger shut down any in bad shape ii intend to miss a pass now it's third to ten again of what pilot defense has really been playing good football today if he could get hot Ezio can receive it's just 96 yards 1 pass intended for Darryl Turner Seattle a graduate of Garfield High School in Seattle beautiful pass he should catch this fall look at us it's right in his breadbasket Dave Craig couldn't do any better than that he put the ball right on right on target didn't make the catch look it's all right through his stomach the Seahawks formation bouncing to the 25-yard return will be the AFC wild card game is brought to you by spotlight proud sponsor of the 1980s u.s. Olympic team everything else is just a light by the heartbeat of America today's Chevrolet and by Alamo Rent A Car there are over four million miles of roads in America and available all the miles are free Marv Albert Joe Namath before a sellout crowd at the Astrodome in Houston the Oilers leading the Seahawks Carter 213 1520 to the Gulf fourth quarter if Seattle next Saturday in the AFC divisional playoff in Houston wins but they opt for next Saturday take over first down up there 26 yard line Alvah stop well that instant replay call that appeared to be critical does not do any damage because Seattle was not able to take advantage and our director Ted Nathanson and producer Larry Sorento proudly correct us and say there are 14 cameras not 10 or 11 they utilized here this afternoon that includes the monkey can up the far side of the theater stop the live by the free safety Eugene Robinson certainly not a designed play Warren moon went the wrong way for the handoff the last time didn't have anyone to hand it to so Warren Patrick to save some of the yards and cut back to about the line of scrimmage not be able to return after suffering a bruised shoulder result for the Houston sideline Rozier has had an outstanding day both of the shot Willie Drury was the intended receiver here it comes sorry back to his 15-yard line he will talk to Bobby Joe Edmonds five yard line it hears it from the crowd 26 yard punt so the four punt by gossip and Seattle will go to the elephants that'll Seahawks starting out from there 45 yard line so a good opportunity but to this point quarterback Dave pray has not done it he hasn't done it but you know they've had some drop balls out there Craig hasn't been consistently accurate today but if the guys come up with the catches like glass to go in the fourth quarter donaldson setting the seahawks well what time Cincinnati she walks down the board early he took over part of the 13th rattle wash it foot boss well they say he's not big enough he's not fast enough they're strong enough but Lau's at six foot one and 223 pounds finds a way to get in there and this is coach Glanville's favorite guy out there because of his lack of size and because of tremendous effort he puts out the short pattern but subtle broader branch two yards short first our Barker this is just a fine play by argument since crossing the screen missus fantasy life and again the Seahawks brought back to punt formation there's fourth down and two for a sixth time it's teri Johnson Frankie Johnson butterfly 25 to go in this fourth quarter off that 47-yard punt we'll be right back side of your screen number 57 Tony woods gets to the ball and he tries to throw it out they just couldn't get a handle on it you see rusty Tillman the special team coach of the top right hand side what a heartbreaker good coverage on the punt ball took a bad bounce for his side out to the 20 and alonzo highsmith got the tall 1020 to go in this fourth quarter and Houston leading Seattle 22:13 of this AFC wild card matchup Bruce Schultz the stop now Allen Pickett has come on he's in the backfield with Smith it'll be a second down and six Houston Oilers making it to the playoffs for the first time in the seven years and their future is bright after five years of the gold four coasters in three years and 1.93 consecutive road defeats Jeff Bryant was right there the yard on the play so will they and six just inside the 5-yard line picket second year ban from Notre Dame third-round draft pick last season go state Club that was 26 really struggled offensively able to complete to Tiffany's for an 11-yard gain but who puts the ball right there pretty decent pass protection they nearly tackle Oh shucks Robinson put all these 572 pounds he's had a six-pack day 4:45 mr. I'm back in the line opens the hall Highsmith nearly loses the ball but is able to hold on to it he kind of runs right over Robinson another angle of the play he loses the ball there can't find I spent 35 he's walking it off once again 73 yards career with a reported weight the faster they are holdout touchdowns last week of life for such yards good friend of Joe's crazy George had to leave the cheers this the first time this season that the Oilers have had the support from a home crowd after the Otters made it to the playoffs he got the feeling that something still was missing here a fever not there but local enthusiasm of a past football fans here just did not believe in the team perhaps the wind today would accelerate the fervor they had only one previous set out this season to the game against the crowd another factor keep in mind that was for tation concerning some moves against Houston there was talk of that moved to Jacksonville Florida and of course that did not win support well here in Houston that's got to turn your fans off you know any time you're talking about leaving town moving to another still first down penalty called on picket so to houston oilers moving the legal motion up the back are you talking about moving out of town and leaving behind the fans that you've had since the beginning of the franchise talking about booming coupled with the fact that you've had the worst record the past since World War two of any team in professional football finally they're beginning to win but you can't really blame blame the fans mr. herds it right there has a lot to say about this the others ladder he picked up five the stop the others are using that clock they have the seven-point lead they lead it by the score of 24 13 and we're down to six minutes and 40 seconds gentleman with the gray sweater and the blue hat is Tom the defensive coordinator for the Seahawks he's sending and Bosworth motion stop play coming up Bosworth reads the draw play fits in there but Munchak number 63 is able to get a hat on him and seven the Seattle 48 five and a half remaining fourth-quarter most snap again move off the recovery Hey first round or he'll excuse me who's beaten Patrick hunter just by a snicker so but who's able to put the ball right there the perfect spot catch of the day for him Oshin taxi Singh like Jacob Freeman a couple of other Texans had a roundup the extra tickets for today's game take a breeze from here in Houston by the way we didn't talk about his lawn sir was a landscaping business here and Houston yes brothers dirty yard yes he bought 81 tickets but he says his personal legend is boots side but given you are so quick so fast if you don't hold these by scribbs we're going to be on top of the secondary quickly the line they can't involved second season out of Louisville 53 catchers during the regular campaign this bridle by crows here 4:16 now this is a time I would go conservative I know conservative second back going through but a flag down offside against Seattle number 45 the strong safety Kenny easily Paul on the offside although he perpetration come into play Kenny number 45 a little too anxious on the Blitz Houston will have a second there's only the she came off Oilers are wanting it down too raishin both teams this is why Bosworth had to leave the field the officials did not like his equipment you have to have the proper attire not the haircut does the proper car and his jersey was ripped his pad go get your uniform fix talking it over with head coach Jerry we'll swap with as the Seahawks did call for the timeout they're going to get charged with it you know and why waste of time I'll tell you why wasted time out Houston's just going to run the ball the next play go down to the two-minute warning I think I just got excited and carried away I'm out it was a bad mistake following the time and try to locate another Jersey for Bosworth you could see it was all a rip looks like Clark Kent getting into the outfit now what if the in firstif files just happened to have a jersey with number 41 they stopped now they can't find a 25 to 44 can put the 44 Jersey on he wants to know what a Jersey is no bars not today it hasn't there fifty-two they have one of those number 52 Jean Valjean C to resume 20 bye Sam garden lost the yard on the play now we get the tulip warning and I'll jump to the backup linebacker 4:52 that did not have an extra 55 Bosworth even a New Jersey it'll be up or down and for the Oilers from the Seattle 11 yard line if houston holds on they will play at that vertex they stamp return for breaking a season but particularly I was afforded attend victory for / guru and the replacement games short pause worth coming up with his cause a quick timeout they didn't waste clock stopped with a minute providing very hard to hit Seattle very much alive 47 remaining the second time he's hit the upright the last time in the wedding mr. now he hits the left front of Brad I don't think I've ever seen a kicker hitch each upright in the course of the game Seattle Seahawks only down by seven points that's an ugly sound to a field goal kicker forty-seven Regulation and Donaldson this time Craig released the ball a little bit early Margit wasn't quite out of his break yet the ball already passed over his head of course you can get some credit for the oiler defense for that they're putting the pressure on holds on they will play Broncos in Denver practice now 11 for 26 a hundred and forty nine yards on NBC Houston Seattle it'll be the intended receiver covered by Aubrey McCullen takes a deep breath of relief there you know had he dropped the bar and thrown the perfect pass but there was open that have had a big prior to this season Seattle Seahawks wore a Super Bowl fighting for their lives and as houston oilers tuk-tuks season with the Seahawks season play also the way as fourth quarter summers had dropped the passes that they arkhat the passes that they drop the statistics would still be bad for the but you have to credit that Houston defense of putting the pressure on a vacancy has the season so logic with his fourth pass and reception Seahawks pressure 30 the clock is running Seahawks have warm no clients are able to hold on the pass intended for a player find a replacement for her about a second according for 30 that's 40% so larger gets out of bounds to stop the clock the 25-yard play Donaldson on the covers 48 seconds in the fourth quarter Margit put one of his good moves down fakes inside gets back outside and wisely gets the origin to to stop the flower Seahawks with one time Houston that's why that pass went short he was pelted he got pelted and Largent got knocked to the ground by Steve Brown and we didn't have a receiver in the area what Steve Brown 24 and large at number 80 larger trying to get back outside and he's pushed to the ground smartly by Brown no flag so it's a good play second attempt the Seahawks the Houston 44 43 seconds moving up the frog overflowing Elpenor Keith Bostick fees for safety with Turner - 37 seconds and a third down and 10 they Seattle Seahawks down to their final plays of the season season that saw the Seahawks go nine and six second the AFC West beep by Kansas City last week to wipe out the home-field advantage up and down club after feeding the fairs and the fur cause I used to Kansas City previously they lost to the Steelers and the waiters are very difficult for token lofts it up their foot barista stops the clock with 31 seconds we're adding in regulation makes the catch although cupboard bob acremant Bryant and he what 42-yard so it's a first down for Seattle at the Houston twelve good time good protection for Craig and he puts the ball just where it needs to put it I've been pressed with the number of plays that's his Seahawks have been able to run you think Craig's not happy this time huh they finally hit one of those long bomb they've avoided fell in the fall over the middle so they have a ways that's why they have 31 seconds up this smart play selection by the Seahawks but to play of a crime that Seahawks have worn play a chromatic fly by the Seahawks to move within one point and it will come down to the extra point attempt I've gone Johnson who has been perfect this season so logic who has been quiet after the fast start that Steve's mother hey watch it a one time Houston island with a subtle catch of the day is Johnson de Haas you'll recall this the field goal that would have given the Oilers ten point lead he missed from 29 yards away moments ago with just short time left on the clock Craig's able to get back there with good protection and go to the ace in the hole this is the clutch mr. clutch man right here Steve Largent the catch of the drive was colored by rape up a 31-yard pass play that got the seahawks downfield and to the 12 yard line backtrack this is the best field goal pies and de Haas who has been playing ping-pong with the upright he missed from 52 hitting the upright right at the end of the first half and that the 29 yard miss and this on a day that saw Tony's and de Haas hit from 47 and 49 and here is the reaction of water fact they pray after connecting with Steve Largent let's say if momentum has anything to do and we do go into an overtime Seattle's got it not only the momentum but the playoff experience as well so much for those stats concerning title possession toxin will pick it off such that they will enjoy in fact deep 46 seconds boosters you know I'd have to give it at least one shot right now they have 26 seconds left on the board but they have three timeouts - if they could get one they could possibly get they're gonna run the clock out jerry glanville one who does gamble or intersection looking at it from his point of view that could lead field goal opportunity for the Seahawks to what at regulation and he will just well I can't hardly blame him though you know his defense is played well all with the sexy exception of his last drive they've controlled the game Joey figures would take a chance on the coin for when our defense go to work we'll see but you were to try one play at least anyway all right so we go to overtime the Houston Oilers the Seattle Seahawks tied at 20 of this AFC wild card game at the end of regulation they will pass the coin they overtime Houston Oilers that seven-point lead had an opportunity to extend to ten but Zen Tejas able to hit from 29 yards out the Seahawks we were down to a fourth down play at deep in their own territory they able to pick up the first down with the pass to launch it we did make the catch by the marker the study drive Prague and with the TD too tired see how Seahawks have the ball mark plus they have the momentum right now siano houston will kick off to Seattle when we return after these commercial messages from your local station is a very hot Oh 25 see Hoffs coming off that last pressure cry to the offense IRA Valentine I will stop palace some shaky moments but a rescue things were bad last round that's right again they had the momentum furious who I afford hoping that he gets another shot Bassem tenet for Jarnell William Williams starting at tailback with Kurt Warner out with a sprained ankle she checked out the statistics and we've been talking about the fact that the Oilers have certainly had the football most of the game and that's an incredible disparity every ways to test a group of the ganas hi Draco's the metal and completes but short the first down Brinsley on the tackle of the titan twice twice makes the catch and that is his first of the day with seven a big third down situation this is a Houston's able to hold of this time they should get decent bill position but if not she has conceived ago to Brooklyn and almost football Macallan had a shot what were they antenna receiver back into formation and his'n will get the ball back this is the first playoff overtime game since last season January 11th Denver beat Cleveland Browns knocking off further jets and a couple of over times back on the 3rd of January last season Johnson is back hello stop - goodbye Rodriguez gets off a good one with coverage of a terrific pond a 48-yard pot Rodriguez had a splendid day twice leading the assault Houston will start up from their 15 as we check back on the scoring lodging on the 20-yard pass place set up by a 33 yard pass at a house hit from 47 yards away here with that beautiful rock to take it over Houston 1578 opposite a house field goal and Johnson hit from 33 for Seattle Johnson again from 41 with the logic of only 26 seconds he's missed two field goal attempts is wearing close to the first down marker Bosworth on the stop Highsmith is hurt again hit pick up the first down Highsmith has been banged around pretty good here this afternoon he hurt that left knee earlier they said it was bruised or sprained or whatever but I saw him grab at it just a minute ago and looks like he's in a lot of pain like rosier sidelined by injury earlier and Highsmith has been the featured back for the Houston autumns saw Highsmith with 74 yards off the ground and is caught two passes first down from the 26 and again Highsmith appears to be alright the clutch play that kept the drive going on a fourth intense situation who do you go to when times are tough when you need to get it done huh number 80 larger that's the van Roger picking up the first down and it was logic who caught the touchdown and he happy quiet since the opening minutes when he caught that 20 yard touchdown pass in advance Fred young the inside linebacker of a pack away Wallis's come on a plate Wallace played well for the Oilers before Highsmith started playin they got some good use out of early in the season but I mean hey it's not like he's a rookie this is a second year and he's been in there plugging hard he's real disappointed that he lost his job the highest he's good he's average five and a half yards per carry first down Singapore was a clue was picked off the arrow will take possession excellent oh sure see if we can pick it up in the camera the ball is deflected at the line right there by number 77 Brian Young goes for it hey it looked like an interception to me angle decide for yourself he got his hands underneath it one more angle if it has to be inconclusive it's going to be a tough decision today and they are checking it out Oh airplane went in favor of the Seahawks only problem but this is we lose the ball we don't see what happens from here on how can it be conclusive or incomplete this one the replay people had to stay with the official that time because there wasn't conclusive evidence one way or the other is here and so they have to stick with the decision on the field there must be conclusive or indisputable visual evidence that would possess secondhand 10:37 we are in overtime dr. Zira who makes this return Jeff Flint and Brian Bosworth combined the tackle Mike Rozier who was not supposed to get back into it back on the field he has played hurt all season long oh he's a tough guy to coaches this they can't tell you enough about how tough this guy is he's been playing injured all season long he works in the offseason this is his best season so far in the NFL he's he's just a fine ballplayer going to the Pro Bowl this year the 44 the first hour to hell here with a sixth catch of the day Patrick hunter on the stop and he's been moving the change there is ponies and they house you have to have the feeling that he is feeling the pressure after missing a couple earlier want that could have put the game out of reach this pressure on a lot of guys the offensive line is pressure on they need the block Warren Moon as a tremendous amount of pressure this is great playoff game this is this is just great first of ten at the Seattle 41 yard line and again to the crown Robinson stopped there but he picked up Rozier has gone 56 yards 17 carries second and one at the Seattle 31 the season off the line for the Oilers the Seahawks tied at 20 of this AFC wild card matchup those here the first down Bryant it was right there so forth Highsmith and Rose here back in that Houston backfield both have taken their licks this afternoon and a HUS doesn't appear to be too nervous but I promise you there's some giant butterflies going around and that boy is coming they offer down 132 eighth play of the drive that began at the 15 while they're calling for the yardsticks field goal attempt from here would be a 40 earlier today yes wasn't quite right there's a little left a little right each time it has to be in between the up having discos to feel cool the nearside here the first time fifteen sudden-death overtime you have to stay on the ground now they have to stay on the ground move it a little closer on the ground but don't take a chance of getting a tip ball someday as his hand the pros here usually Rozier has four times whatõs foot alignment by Center GA person Rozier in the backfield 58 Bruce 74 offense was brought forward by the right guard bruce matthews so the penalty called matthews that's one of the few mistakes this houston offensive line is made today they've just played a marvelous game one of the few penalties call today against the Oilers a very low penalty game which has contributed to the sharpness that we have seen here Houston now second and eight from the Seattle won eight Tony's and a house waiting in the wings 8:20 to go over time to play over cry try to cut inside and was stopped two yard game getting the call after it was all by Crozier Fred young the inside linebacker off of Greg Dean's closed it up so it's a pour down and 626 and this is the down they should be kicking the field goal on I'll tell you what we have a bad snap you get a second chance at about four wait till fourth down to kick the filter at bad snap they have to turn the ball over excessive very few teams Bhutan six rosier shut up Capri's something rose here very hot 47:49 missed 450 food this one will be from 42 yards out pay hosters had a splendid year regular season 20 out of 26 he's done it from long range he's got it from short-range timeout as before so when we come back it will be all Tony is obey us back at the Dome in Houston Marv Albert with Joe Namath this AFC wild twenty-seven minutes left in sudden death 20 cent day hi eight minutes five seconds into overtime big Hoss from 42 yards away Houston at Denver next Sunday the AFC divisional playoff forgery Glanville arrows are put that verb for Chuck Knox it is all over Jay Haas bouncing back 29 yards us now it is time for the most valuable player award sponsored by Budweiser today's MVP but wiser will make a contribution to the United Way today's MVP was able to connect on a regular basis with his live receivers artists Gibbons and drew Hill also about standing game for alonzo highsmith 21 to 30 to 273 ours had a touchdown Warren Moon the University of Washington has gone through four quarterback coaches in four years ago stood but things certainly stabilized today with the Houston Oilers at their first playoff appearance in seven years in overtime you
