Winston Cup schedule here at Talladega Alabama hello I'm Ken Squier CBS flag-to-flag coverage of this event about to begin with Bill Elliott up in front and Dale Earnhardt flanking him through 188 laps 500 miles of competition for a purse of half a million dollars today now already this heat is causing some rather unusual things in this race after some 16 to 18 laps under green they're going to put a caution flag out and bring the field in to check fires NASCAR being extremely careful here because of the expected here working alongside is a two-time Grand National Champion yeah Jim well thank you Ken and good afternoon everyone even though this is a fastest race track on the circuit most drivers will tell you that it is the easiest to drive because of the wide sweeping turns into high bank horsepower is the key to getting around here case in point Ronnie Thomas qualified on Thursday here at 196 miles an hour and his regular engine that would not have made the field he'll ended an engine from Richard Petty next day qualified at 201 miles an hour some five miles an hour faster but you can be lulled to sleep if you aren't careful here get a false sense of security because it is so easy to drive but if you ever get in trouble here you really get in trouble so you have to concentrate even though sometimes it's hard to do I'm not getting into trouble one important did not
