Thorpe has gotten ahead of Joe babe behind Joby number 54 is the Englishman Murphy and stay on a Honda this is the first lap each lap takes about three minutes so since it's a 14 minute race class two laps it'll be about 13 laps before that plus two sine goes out to till the riders but they are on their last two laps and thought who is sub six foot two tall who weighs 14 stone five pounds who he's so fit I can't tell you he runs ten miles every day he does weight training every day he spends half the day riding his bike he's been doing that since he was six years old because 22 year old Dave well [Music] so now a thought as you can see has taken mega righto and as we expected the races on between number three various day for another one Audrey mother about these bikes way kilograms if they're down to the weight limit they produced 61 horsepower if it's a worked Honda from there single cylinder two-stroke engines and it doesn't seem all that long ago since the great joke rate for North first produced 50 horsepower in a racing single cylinder 500 north and now these motocross machines are producing 10 the horsepower more and they have the most incredible performance and so now the two top live in 1985 motocross number one world championship leader or tame a layer a number 3 who is leading this year's championship our first and second they're teammates but there is an ten laps completed before still leads but number one matter of the belgian three-time world champion in second place is starting his charge he started to close the gap between himself and a four ball fifth position at the moment is the Englishman 20-year old Dave nickel on the Austrian KTM so there are a two Englishmen nickel in the top five places and in sixth position behind Dave nickel since Danny Magoo went out temporarily when he came off his bike is Mervyn Anstey three Englishmen in the top six places around nine of the twelve round World Championship the British called Prix here at Farley castle Malley of number one delicately handling that 60 horsepower two-stroke single cylinder water-cooled Honda engine it is distinctive fire engine red bike that's thought on the left there is malleable and this quite a long gap now these two men Englishman Dave thought and Audrey male herb have dominated the World Championship this year the first race of the year in Austria male of 1 and 4 per second Thorpe was third in France Thorpe was second in Sweden with Malaya fourth male 1 in Finland and Thorpe was third in Italy fourth one in Spain belly up 1 and Thorpe was third in Holland Thorpe won and Malaya was second in America a couple of weeks ago Dave Thorpe was second the ballet herb was 4 and there's only 15 points between them in the world championship and there the Belgium on his 11th lap in what we expect to be a 13 lap 13 lap plus two laps race the gap is down to 2.7 seconds what do I mean by 13 lems plus two laps actually this race is run over 40 minutes plus two laps at the end of 40 minutes the board goes out which says two more laps and in their 40 minutes given that the lap time in practice of the fastest man Dave Thorpe was 2 minutes 55 point one seconds we expect the race to run for 13 laps before that board goes out of there his thought number 3 video for the gap was 6 seconds and you can see for yourself that it's much less than that now take third place with Thorpe well on his way to first position in this first moto various at the 8th Kurt Nicoll salmon are biblical he's only 20 years old based off the leader behind him now here is the bad news maker Otto in third position than I do mr. Dingle berry is on the KTM on the KTM turtle Kawasaki third there is taught there's nickel number eight of the of the Austrian meteor so we have to understand second a Kawasaki third this KTM four Kurt Nicoll on the KTM in fifth position it's number 52 Dave Watson of the Kawasaki and in 6th position it's Mervyn Anstey so there are four British riders in the top six probably not you out of your afternoon slumbers five times second and he rips off he takes off her hip-hop throws it away [Music] crowd he's saying go for it they fight back and he will next watch [Music] to me just a tiny bit ragged compared with thought Thorpe is riding I say well within his limits Ballard will have potential left but the Belgian is just looking that tiny bit ragged compared with trying desperately to break away this is what he did in the first moto he be go through now there he didn't succeed in passing David Thorpe as a result of which he finished second gap between himself and Dave thought now the positions are reversed [Music] thirty minutes gone and we are alone and a new leader number one world champion Andre Malaya has caught and cast david form with an inspired bit of riding but Paul seems to me to be riding more within his limits then now there is both men just before this race began quietly declared that it was their intention to win it because forth having won in the first moto had increased his world championship lead by three points now then it is valid leading Thorpe in second place [Music] position Dave Watson the Irishman on the Kawasaki is hanging off magnificently in 5th place it is rain is starting to come down I don't think it's going to bother the riders over much they're well into their rhythm now they've been tearing off the rip off sections of their goggles to keep their vision clear rules the world says the banner well he doesn't rule it at the moment he's leading the world championship but the world champion is leading here than here he goes not the leading them to Kawasaki's third and four then the KTM of Kurt Nicoll fifth and then in sixth position the Swedish Husqvarna machine and you're looking at Thor for taking Johnny kanji at the Dutch rider on the Kawasaki now the big leap coming towards us clearing the crest flying through the earth here they come now here before this brake on the front drop break at the back look at the front forks and you will see that the disc brake at the front covered by a shroud a plastic shroud which attaches to the forks to keep out stones but then out you can see on the right-hand side of the front forks [Music] who's coming right up now [Music] completed and the crowd is stupidly coming down to the course to urge the last row where he is the last thing the for peds at the moment his 34 minutes have gone six minutes to the start of the last two laps where they thought I fairly confidently predicts riding round in the wheel tracks of wardrobe now and able to go a lot quicker than he is the worrying situation of knowing the Dave hope is right behind him pushing hard and down the field we've got an interesting situation because while George obey is still third day Watson is still fourth Dave Nichol is still fifth they make a Kurt Nicoll I keep on say Dave nickel which is Kurt's father Kurt Nicoll is in fifth position as he was in the first moto but he's right enough with David Watson who he took a long time to get past in the first moto [Music] [Music] these two men have been so dominant in Grand Prix racing this year Malaya one in Austria Malaya one in Finland for one in Italy Thorpe one in Holland but with those two battling for the lead here is Dave Watson on the Kawasaki who is in 4th position behind George obey his khalasar being confident and behind 52 is number 8 Kurt Nicoll and there he goes twenty-year-old Kurt Nicoll son of X BSA works rider Dave dickham and Kurt is challenging Watson now Watson who is in 4th place had curtain people behind him in the first moto and Kurt told me he had a great deal of difficulty in getting pass for the record he was about three seconds or less faster than him Tom Watson in the first moto but he just couldn't get past the Irishman it's very very difficult to find some way to pass here at Barney Castle and so Kurt Nicoll has got exactly the same problem in this second moto as he had in the first and Thorpe is still 1.4 seconds behind ballet of as they go through to complete another lap and really the marshal should do something about these idiots who are breaking ranks as they come up to the last corner to invade the course and exhort thought to go even faster Dave Watson exhorting himself to go even faster in fourth position tried to keep Kurt Nicoll behind him and at the same time tried to catch the third placement now he is down there is thought this is 13 37 minutes gone so will complete this lap and the next three more laps to go number three Dave will have to call for every ounce of stamina that they've got because it is tremendously punishing to do this they're up on the footrest set down on the saddle they're up on the footrest they've brought with the feet they operated the trouble with the right hand the clutch with the left feet and all the time they're having to flex their knees and and ride the bumps with the motorcycle suspension pick the right line go to the right speed what's their respective then who there are none better than [Music] now what you may say will happen if a lab and thought and thought if it a very urban thought both finished with the same number of points as a result of finishing first and second in the two Moto's each the answer is that the man who finishes higher in this the second moto will take precedence so if all dream a layer that wins this moto this heat this lake he will also win over all the points of course because they will each have 37 points from the wind and a second place but it is going to make a difference to who wins the brick the British Brawl free and since we have had a British rider winning the British motocross born free since david twohy prey of noise won it in 1979 all the thousands and thousands of thousands of spectators with a few notable continental exemptions here today will be one thing three day for the field Batman period [Music] interesting their mouth he looks as though we've still got three laps to go because I'll go past the start/finish there was still 30 seconds to go to the end of the first 40 minutes in this race and that was virtually the situation in this photo so the rain and the dampened circuit of surface have hardly slowed the pace at all it is virtually identical and that is because both of these men are now giving it everything that they've got ballet for two more we the end of this lap we really should see the plus two laps board go out and now for his closing Thorpe is charging Thorpe he's charging he's right up alongside now let me through he's through Dave sure that thought can't take him in this lap or the next one so unless four is double taking the Belgium and that is possible too because this race now is not about machinery it's not about riding skill because the machines are equal and so are the riders it is about tactics it is about braids is about thinking it's about the wheel fifteen this left hand the next left [Music] the crowd is alternately spellbound acidic when they see their English hero from working on day four still only 22 years old and as I have said before this afternoon a man with an incredibly mature cool head on his young shoulders holding that second place he has written an absolutely unbelievable race I'm not belittling Malheur but when you think that thought who was brought down on the first corner at first there and must have stopped for I would think a good 15 seconds clawed his way right through to the lead it's an equal trainable performance now the big leaps I wonder where they fall on that last lap he's going to make his epic and portrayed now there will be wondering exactly the same thing just to keep you in tracks still in third position on the Kawasaki the belt and jaws should show bay still in fourth position the Irishman dave watson on another kawasaki still in fifth position behind watson it's exposition in his province and now they're about to start the last lap with half a secret between numbers they round the corner when the crowd is out there again whilst the English crowd goes mad with enthusiasm and invades the course which they shall do in some countries which have for leading the world championship this year in the what remains of this last lap banner will win overall although both riders will have the same number of points as far as the world championships in the wheels touch I don't think the day for got a hope of catching the Belgium and it's going to be an overall victory for a man I sure sure they there is still in place moving he's lost it he's lost home in third position there is the terribly disappointed Dave thought who wanted so very much to win his own British Grand Prix riding home in second place notwithstanding the fact that he got the same number of points as Audrey Valera who has won because he finished higher in the second moto very sure show bay finishing call coming through to finish in third position with bel-air and thought metaphorically under the shower already but it's not so much a question of who's going to be third because there is overheats a question of who's going to be poor Oh Katie oh well very Chauvet third and it's nickel in fourth position behind nickel coming into this last recall is up in the fourth place the outer v goes watson and in sixth position it is Andre Romans so with a big to each winning a stage or moto as Mary likes to call them these days Thorpe and mal herb
