didn't exist well it's really exciting for me to be back here you know and i feel that i had so many thrills and the experience these buffalo field bills fans and believe me howard they're in rare form tonight believe me you know you're very special to me and it's a great evening for frank and me to be here with you enjoying the comeback and i think we said it all one night when with dandy we said miami has the oranges but buffalo has the juice jets won the toss buffalo to kick off here's the gift the action begins and juice it is nice to be so ever close to greatness we'll have some fun because we've got an exciting crowd tonight set to get things underway joe donello bangs it for the bills dropping deep and moving outfield and a bible quickly out over the 20-yard line where we'll watch richard todd come in johnny hector bringing it back richard todd on the year really found himself last week against the rams when he had a tremendous game he looks into the huddle and these will be his skill players at the skilled positions a dangerous wide receiver in wesley walker tremendous speed of course they have johnny lamb jones with a sore ankle but if he can get in there they have as fast receivers as you will find in combination in the nfl today the first and ten is at the 22-yard line by the new york jets wayne crutchfield the single setback todd with a quick roll to the left looks out and finds wesley walker walker up over the 30-yard line short of a first down by perhaps two it'll be second down and eight we'll look at the three-four defense the big man of course in the middle the nose tackle a great one fred smirles multiple all-pro the linebackers they're strong in the middle against the run lucia sanford good against the pass defense not large a secondary that truly has not been tested this year mario park of course one veteran and charlie roans the other veteran cornerback second down and two ball just over the 30-yard line for the jets the jets two and two on this season the bill's off to a good start they're three and one schuler in motion the quick toss that goes to cutfield he breaks the tackle at the line of scrimmage and gets out for the first down up close to the 39-yard line it'll be first down jets nobody questions the caliber of personnel on this jets team the two surprising losses still hurt but dwayne crutchfield as you look at head coach joe walton should be watched carefully he is an absolute bull of a runner out of iowa state and his all-star potential not joe walton but dwayne crutchfield exactly although joe walton could wind up that way if everything goes for 29 yard line first down for the jets coming off an overtime victory over the rams last week at chase stadium chula in motion and crutchfield works over the right side a couple of yards and of course missing from the lineup if you follow this game you know the freeman mcneil the nfl's leading rusher of a year ago out for six to eight weeks with a separated shoulder he will not be in the lineup so joe walton will use a multiple usage of his backswing crutchfield scott dirk and bruce harper will see harper a lot on third down right now they're going fairly strong with crutchfield amanda howard told you in his second year big strong young back with a lot to learn but he has a great deal of power one thing i noticed that joel walton is doing he's playing three tight ends right now i think he feels that the team hasn't played with a lot of promotion in the past so he's telling them they're going to run the football so they'll come into this game thinking tough comb the schuler barking the tight ends and todd on second down and seven through the air finds crutchfield and cutsville over the 45 held short of the first down at the 47. defensively mario clark up there the veteran cornerback on the left side and it'll be about two and a half yards short of the first down for the jets richard todd may not be the greatest quarterback in the league but he is a fine quarterback and you can win a super bowl winner but as joe walton freely admitted at our production meeting this morning he started slowly this year but got into his rhythmic pattern against the rams money does that he is very difficult indeed to stop third along two into the lineup bruce harper good receiver out of the backfield for the jets he wears number 42. richard todd changing off and trips down he goes and he is covered quickly by smirles the ever so active nose tackle for buffalo in the jets we'll have to bring out the putting unit todd as he pulled away from the center was either stepped on by a pulling guard or his center or he just tripped on the artificial surface let's take a look let's take a look at it from the end zone you see number 14 in the middle of your screen he's coming out and it it just it looks like he stepped on he was stepped on by the center of joe fields it happened so often you have to get away from that center and your linemen have to be aware of the movement of the quarterback chuck ramsey that's rob riddick third-year man for millersville he's back deep chuck ramsey netting out 35.2 on his punch this far this sacked a lot because he'll get rid of it but last week it was a running game a spectacular day for joe cripps and he's in there right now number 20 with 166 yards against houston first down at 10 14 yard line for the bills booker moore is back there with joe cribbs the setbacks and immediately ferguson to the air and he looks out and he finds bill cribs not only a good rushing back but he's a nifty receiver he told you about the backfield set there is joe ferguson now in his 11th year out of arkansas good quarterback is a good quick release they don't catch him that often the skill positions frank lewis 36 years old rolling on he just doesn't age and there is an offensive line that perhaps the weakness on the right side we don't know it'll be justin cross who has replaced the ninja joe devlin he'll be up against mark gaston over the night cribs got five yards the second down at five the ball just inside the 20 of the bills ferguson again fires for tony hunter the rookie first round draft pick and former all-american from notre dame out over the 40-yard line first down and for those fans who follow notre dame football to know he's one of the greats ever to come out of that institution let's take a look at it from the end zone i think they're just a little surprised teams have been running against them so well they expected the bills to come out running the ball and as you can see tony hunter ran a little flag pattern there he was wide open and brought it in and did a good job well when you look at tony hunter frank you're looking at a future all-pro for many years to come i can tell you that he would have been the jets number one draft choice of the jet sedan crackdown under with the first down 42-yard line cribs looks left slides right gets about three perhaps fours he's out over the 45-yard line and let's beat the 4-3 defense one that is really taking a hammering in the early going of the season but it has been injury riddled you saw quickly joe pleco once again back of the tackle neil is out of the end where he should be in the first place those are your linebackers the big hitter there is bundle the cornerbacks they're good cornerbacks bobby jackson and jerry holmes and unless you get a pass rush and the jets have not provided that this season well the best gets in trouble in the secondary the second down long six and ferguson will think the jets have gotten so much publicity about being the second change over the years they came into training camp this year thinking about stacking quarterbacks and not stopping the run and teams have been running on them and it's it's absurd for a team with their personnel suddenly not to stop the run when they were about as good as there was a year ago the personnel is that the bill's inside the 44-yard line first down and 10. you saw marty lyons complaining that he was drawn off inside handoff in the works of booker moore a first-round draft pick of a couple of years ago unable was unable to play as a rookie suffered from guillain-barre syndrome a serious nervous disorder but he has fought it off and he's back in the lineup tonight right there you saw kenny neal a rookie sensation a year ago he was used to tackle on the inside early on doesn't have really the full upper body strength necessary for the inside but outside a year ago he was sensational when kleco was hurt and back then now he is an outstanding player loss of almost three yards second down 13 for the bills draw play red and red quickly as booker moore will lose even more yardage back close to cliff branch well we all like to see that but they didn't win yesterday during all of them on the other side lamb jones wide open they have to respect tremendous speed he gets the first down out over the 15 near the 18-yard line with their receivers they can chew anybody up let's take a look at jones here howard he's running a deep end it just looks like he's you got to respect that speed he's a had many many injuries ankles and strings that when you got him healthy walker on one side jones on the other what speed you have first down 19-yard line for the jets todd puts everyone in the pattern looks to bruce harper and bruce harper is hammered there hit hard chris williams coming up and lucius sanford we talked about him early he's a good pass defender very slight at linebacker 215 pounds but he roams the secondary when he reads pass and he is the one man they keep in the one linebacker they keep in when they go into their nickname he's that good of a defender yeah he's very smart guy you know he watches the field he reads the field real well he was the dean's list student down in georgia tech and there's a degree in industrial management huh well that man favorite by the way lamb jones can only practice one day a week with a soft ankle frank and he needs more than that this is bruce harper only three weeks ago arthroscopic surgery and look at the little man get another first down out over the 30 near the 33-yard line before he's upset by chris keating stats for you if you will the jets are dead last in the nfl against the rush buffalo defensively well they're fourth in the nfl defensively but they have not intercepted one pass this season they're the only team in the nfl who has not intercepted a pass and yet they have performed well against the past defensively they've really never been tested deep this year that's a different formation for the jets as they put scott dirking over the right side they're in kind of a stacked with the three tight ends and they get a couple of yards out of it i'd rather bruce harper over the right side you mentioned scott jerking though he made the key pass reception that led to the jets victory over the ramp he's not a sensational player he's a highly functional player the kind of guy you want around juice you know what i mean a great blocker make a few key yards you know what i mean barcum is good left and they are using lamb jones now in a wing they have jones [Applause] in the slap formation along with wesley walker split wide to the right second down and eight a hang up and there was a holding call against wesley walker he's not going to call it that mario clark almost four wesley walker's jersey off on the outside we have two officials right there i'm shocked that they didn't call it i don't believe that and walker is limping off the field it's a good way to pull a hamster let's take a look at it mario clark who's a fine defensive back but he's beat right at the line of scrimmage that chuck was really beyond five yards got a hold of his jersey i don't believe that hey they are now helping wesley walker off the field he had a bad angle an achilles tendon rather he's had it since training camp and thrown off stride like that that could have aggravated that injury well that's a good way to incapacitate the other team and i i just can't believe that that wasn't gold but i've seen enough this year and the officials to understand anything tonight hey howard and the fans are rare for them [Applause] third down and eight richard todd without his prime receiver rusty walker lan jones is in there however a little trap play and look at the man break loose as bruce harper harper on a call from head coach joe walton on a third down and long situation a bill's thinking pass quick trap and marvin powell pulling up quickly the flags are down nobody will forget that marvin powell let's listen to the call was the man who made the key penalty against miami when miami won 2019 on an ubi vancham on field goal in the final seconds false start number 79 offense third down yeah but he made a lot of key blocks to get him to that game he's a great great linesman but at that moment he made a critical mistake and people remember that third down 18 of all of the 28-yard line dude it's officially mother that's an interesting highlight the bill's playing tough on third down and long their opponents this year over 13 on third down and tanner moore and that's what the jets are looking over right now todd has the time gets it to harper he'll be short of the first down but he will be moving closer to field goal range again lucia sanford defensively and out comes the field goals unit but the point is frank the buffalo defense held together they are very tough to score on it remains to be seen if leahy can kick this field goal he's not the greatest and basically the jets come up and he is actually five to six this year and the other was blocked the holder is patron and joe fields catch if he can't advance we had the jets on the one-yard line earlier in the game they got out of that trouble greg cater to punt for buffalo with 119 remaining in the first quarter and no score better personnel than this team you agree i agree i think the raiders may be real close but this team certainly is not playing up to their ability maybe they are today tonight they're they're fired up under control so when he turns up he can turn up and run by a couple of uh pursuing linemen who are running downhill and can't stop so he saves his explosion for the third guy third or fourth guy hunter got eight second down and two babies puts everyone in the pattern and fires complete to lewis and lewis who just goes on and on has the first down for the bills at the 37-yard line that was an to decline this just to get possession of the ball and they have excellent field position it might be right on the kicking team and the jets want the football back and they will have it at the 37. that looks like that's going to be their decision they would settle for a field goal if they can get it they've been frustrated so often in this half you know as you pointed out the jets the way they played should be where ahead and they they could have really been in the hole the bills could have got anything on that drive they could have went in on a real high because they should really be out of this ballgame now they have changed their mind and they are going to have the bills kick it once again it could be the fact that greg cater the punter for the bills is really not having a good year he's had his problems i think it's more because of justin cross i think they want to put a little pressure on him no man on the right end of the line of scrimmage fourth down well that doesn't work and they'll put it again and one thing the jets are well aware of the bills have allowed more punt return yardage against them than any other team in the nfl an average of about 17 yards upon return and that is amazing so the jets having brought it over we'll let mike harmon try to return this one from greg katie looks like they're going for the return they're doubling the outside men but i don't stations were able to generate over 220 yards of offense they however got one score and this came from a richard todd pass to bruce harper a good move by bruce harper working against number 57 the linebacker lucia sanford he got into the end zone following a bobby jackson interception let's watch it again and watch bruce harper now with his head fake to the inside that freezes sanford for that one beat and it gets harper into the clear that's why they like to use him coming out of the backfield on receptions richard todd frustrating perhaps because quite frankly he's had a lot of time to throw the ball he has and they really haven't mounted a real what you would call scoring drive that uh they didn't have to go too far after the interception to get the touchdown and you know you like to see him go 80 yards at 60 yards on a nice drive and for ferguson well he just hasn't had the football that much but he threw one interception that cost the bills seven points it was a poorly thrown ball the bobby jackson stepped in front of pickup and the jets were able to capitalize we're looking deep now as the bills will receive the opening second half kickoff from pat leahy that's mike mosley he led the nfl in returns a year ago he's been troubled with a hamstring pull and he was questionable even going into tonight [Music] leahy will try and keep it away from mosley and he does once again as rob riddick will take it from the goal line and riddick gets touchback yardage plus one and the bills they'll open the second half with possession at their 21-yard line the stats offensively all in favor once again so far with the jets time of possession everything working for the jets basil they lead by only seven to nothing rolling through the halftime 229 yards of offense to the bill 70. and i think the interesting thing for the jets defensive unit is the fact that they are not being run on like they have been in the past buffalo getting only 10 yards and that's what the jets other opponents have generated all in the first half and it's beginning to sprinkle a little bit we were promised by a local weatherman and it would not rain tonight it will be showery tomorrow morning but we're getting some already first down and ten and ferguson screen pass got it down by joe cribs he was thinking run before catch castino in again working against justin cross over and kenny outside to take care of advantage of his quickness and i think the players may be a little more comfortable they know that's what they're going to be and uh they're they're certainly playing some excellent defense the type of defense everybody expect them to play when we came into this season expected it i'll tell you it'll help gas to know too because gasterno is basically a pass right she's a good strong end that can do anything but as a pass rusher when you've got a klecko inside of you the big size of klecko he can castino can take more chances as we look at young jesse johnson being assisted off the field for the jets yeah the point you make you think of deacon jones all those years he probably wouldn't have been the great player he was without marilyn olsen right there next to him nobody would have been great without marilyn olsen next door first and ten the bills 12 25 remaining in the game they have it at the jets 35-yard line following the fumble recovery matt koepler throws it underneath the joe griffs and tribbs does his spring to the 21-yard line for a bill's first down that's acceleration right between two jets what have we got left 12 minutes or basically overpowered what is not a big defensive unit for the buffalo bills but what has been an effective defensive unit miami couldn't get a td on them beat him 12-0 four field you know as we said about miami they are not they are physical but they're really a finesse football team and that's two finesse teams playing against one another ketchfield looking for the corner of the end zone he won't get there as charles romes takes the ride in crutchfield out of bounds at the 1-yard line just has made jess have made no attempt to finesse the bills tonight they just come out there with the biggest guys they got three tight ends most of the time and just rammed the ball down their throats for the most part that's the raiders technique yeah they've been good at it for a lot of years take have to work i think everybody realized it takes a tougher line than i think to play against the run than it is to a guy who can you know throw the ball and that's good by leahy 41 yards he missed earlier from 38 he made a chip shot and soleil two of three for tonight normally takes a tougher attitude to block the run than it does for the past and what the jets have been lacking thus far this
