sidelines for 36 yards to give texas this scoring opportunity where it's second down and goal to go from the two next is only from the four-yard line second down goal to go ball is handed off the drones and jones goes into the stack and he gets close to the two-yard line texas has been very conservative when they've been down inside the 20-yard line this year and they're showing conservatism in this possession from the five in previous games they've kicked ahead to kick a field goal in this situation four times against missouri and four times against rice they've got goodson the barefoot kicker sitting on the sidelines he is 10 out of 13 in field goals so far he hit a 37 yarder in the first quarter into the wind it is third down and goal to go from the two the pass in the air it is second down and about four yards to go a short four for oklahoma and the pressure is on jc watts is down back at the 21-yard line mcmichael is number 99 hacker is number 53 henry williams is 83 and tim campbell is 86 and they're all coming if that's the advantage of the texas style of play they're coming on the snap of the ball and should it be a play action pass such as this they get a immediate rush and they were trying to hit oklahoma's trying to hit sims down the middle deep they didn't have time football is marked down at the 22 where it'll be third down and about 13. that's overstreet in motion for oklahoma ball is given to village sims sims is hit by bill acker first and goes down for a yard and it brings up fourth down and oklahoma will have to punt into the win meaning texas should get good field position acting like michael the two defensive tackles have a physical superiority over any offensive guard that they'll meet this year they are sensational both of them both stand about 6-2 both weighed 255 played high school ball together in freer texas johnny johnson is the deep man [Applause] the kick is in the air and keeling gets it up field gets an oklahoma bounce and the ball will roll dead inside the 35 at about the 33. so texas with only one tick remaining on the clock has the ball here in the first half time for one play before we end the first half and little goes back to throw lamb jones going downfield passes on to the other side and it is incomplete [Music] and texas ends the first half of play with a three-point lead over oklahoma 10-7 bill fleming right now with texas coach fred acres well coach it's a typical oklahoma texas game pretty rough and tough yes it is i'll tell you they're all alike two good football teams and we're just thankful to be ahead at this point that was a brilliant call down there close where you hit the steve hall on the touchdown pass well steve made a great catch on that and we were happy for him 11-yard line and then here's the touchdown pass that texas finally got as steve hall took it in for the score command of the southwest the texas university marching band on the field right now to play the washington post march and at the new more scores coming in that was an interesting ball game in the battle for the little brown jug today mark carlson of minnesota completed 27 out of 51 passes for 339 yards in a touchdown yep michigan with a strong running game basically from butch woolfolk who got 194 yards today and a couple of touchdowns prevailed to win it in ann arbor another big ten game as purdue bounces back to defeat illinois and how about this one wisconsin defeating michigan state and that ball game is still in the fourth quarter or northwestern [Music] now here's the soil been over pursuing overreacting on texas delayed tight plays most of the games keep we have seen in the first half and that one has gone out the back door away from the pursuing oklahoma defense third down three [Music] johnny little keeps it turns it up field gets the first down one of the things that the texas coaching staff is worried about with johnny he's not been patient enough in running the option play committing himself too soon that time he read right he read an open hole on the defensive left side behind his right side blocking and he turned it in for his first down at the 48. his patience gave him the first down had he pissed it would have been a loss oklahoma defensive back had forced across the line herky walls is now in at a flanker spot a wide receiver position the third string quarterback the speedster on first down man in motion is lamb jones the olympic gold medalist with blazing speed and taylor's fine defensive play coming out of the secondary trips him up as he crosses midfield and goes to the oklahoma 47. oklahoma if taylor doesn't get him he might have gone that's correct texas is using a different offense keith they are using lamb jones as a wing back as the inside receiver for the simple reason oklahoma double-teamed him every down in first half rick recognizing his great speed the football is at the 47-yard line of oklahoma it's a second down for texas second and five the handoff goes to aj jones big sophomore running back out of youngstown ohio and he jams it down to the 45 or a couple of yards brought down by barry ditman a senior out of houston texas one of the little touches in this ball game steve hall who caught the pass for texas go ahead touchdown is an oklahoman that's right he is from oklahoma there are three oklahomans on the texas team there are 37 texans on the oklahoma team [Applause] third down from the 45-yard line they need three yards the handoff goes to jan jones and he's close to his first down if he got it inside the 42 it will be a first down and it is bruce tayton defensive right in from tulsa made the tackle for the sooners give credit to wesh 2 but the offensive center on these cutback plays because he is blocking the nose guard lewis with the play giving jones ample room and time to cut back against the green the football is at the 42 with 12 minutes to play in the third quarter and the longhorns leading the sooners 10 to 7. carl robinson is now in the backfield replacing jam jones jam's gone through about four shirts already in the game he can't play with the tattered shirt down a little turns and he hands it off to robinson and robinson hitting hard goes banging in there he's a freshman at a temple of 200 pounder and he gets good yardage on his carry watch hubert number 58 block the linebacker by the whole he's one of the best blockers he locks on him and lewis could not escape release from the block nice gain on the play johnny lewis a big guy in the middle of the line defensively a sophomore for oklahoma out of carroll city florida is the leading tackler among the sooner linemen it is second down and four yards to go little pitches the ball back robinson is hogtied behind the line of scrimmage by linebacker george comby and barry berget was there was burgett i guess that got him high burgett's uh brother was a great football player for oklahoma also but he has a bad back he missed all of last year but has come on strong and given him good play at defensive end barry is a senior out of stroud oklahoma the footballer is put down right at the 42-yard line at his third down and 10. and jim jones aj comes back in you got johnny jones lamb from lampasus and jones ramsey the sid down to texas looking for a way to distinguish him decided he'd call him jam he's gonna be one of the fine running backs in texas history third down and ten donny little looking for a pass receiver still looking can't find one turns it up and he's knocked down at the 41-yard line he had a long time to look he had three men deep and all three recovered excellent pass coverage by oklahoma they guessed right they double teamed jones and had two men on the tiding then also time out called on the field we have an injured player down looks like george cumbead the linebacker down for oklahoma we'll be back it was george comey injured his left leg he absorbed the punishment on impressive jones he's run tough he's run inside outside and very determined during the entire ballgame he has already this season gone past his total for his freshman year the clock is broke has broken i believe keith is not working properly and they're going to have to make some adjustments 7 55 showing on the clock and it did not start that time i don't believe so the circumstances for and he may get bigger before the year is done third and 23 and you you're right they do play it safe and they don't get the ball back in the middle of the field either but they do have it on the left hash mark and goodson's a sidewinder so he'll be able to put a little hook on it and get away with it when you sit on the sideline as a coach in a situation keith you say it please be a good staff
