now this is the Vietnam War equivalents to what was the life draft ration packed by Charms company as well during World War two I have a couple examples and photos underneath here now that's the only stock photo I was able to find of the life draft ration of World War 2 era let's see if we can get inclusive there mmm a little bit and kind of get an idea of what's going on there anyways I found a little information on the labor ration guy named RAM Bob from the US military of form compound this old stock photo it was from the Petersons reprints of the qmc - 17 - 3 US Army rations manual the contents of the can consisted of six complete packages of Charms eight individual charms a cellophane package of vitamin tabs six packages of Wrigley's gum it also had a small cellophane bag inside to store the rations in to keep them dry so it makes one packet charms one extra charm a pack of gum one vitamin tablet for one day assuming six men were in the raft so that also means two left or charms for when things really got hairy anyway we're going to open up this survival ration this was the only one I've ever been able to find a vietnam-era I actually believe these might be a little more uncommon than the life draft ration forward to now granted it's not exactly a collectible as much as a life afresh although Vietnam War era stuff does go for some money anyways let's open this thing up here you see here as the spam kin-kee classic where would we insert it there's the tab right there now I'm not sure if we can get a close-up of the bottom but it says here in red tax generate 11 1967 here let me see if I can get this close up so you can see it let's give it a shot hmm hard to focus on that let's give it a see here hmm my apologies there we go Gerry 11 1967 kind of here something rattling in there my guess is the Wrigley's gum or something is kind of broken down a little but who knows let's see okay what you do here is you take this and simple enough see it's got that little bit of give to it look at that papers falling off this thing wasn't the best example but it's the only what I've ever be able to find thought it was worth sharing hmm you can actually still find things with a spam can style key in this to the style in stores I probably should have done this the other way this point upwards see if I can get this undone and try this up there looks like I got myself in a quandary here let's give this a shot oh yeah it's coming back there we go mmm seeing the light of day let it be known so these things were given out the guys bailing out on rafts I wonder if any of them were used during the Vietnam War era probably not many were even produced or needed but let's methodically get this across hopefully I don't screw this up because then I'm just going to have to use a can opener to open up the top which I probably should have just done to begin with and save the key but I really wanted to be able to give you guys a good example of how these things go gundog opened up a survival tropic 4 with the same kind of you know spam kin-kee method guys have probably seen that oh there we go let's hope this doesn't detach they're starting to get a little flimsy my apologies I probably could have executed this better but this is my first video - no excuse there I've been opening rations for years anyways mmm the anticipation for those charms and gum mm-hmm I can't wait anyways we cruise along this actually worked out better than I expected putting the key in reverse there you go oh wow that's beautiful look at that everything looks fine in there here check that out I hope I got that all right and I didn't completely miss the cam I just bought this tripod today as you can see charms let's get them out what's up this camera down over here actually I got to take a picture of this I'm still doing photos for MRA info you guys haven't been on that site check it out fantastic website it's where it all started anyways just one make that one pick all right let's dig in we have one two three four five six seven eight nine ten wait encounter once I get it out here why are you lost count mmm smells minty and just strange in there hmm nothing like that the smell of old rations you know when you open up an old ration they always have such a unique smell instructions anyways that there won some flex of the Brie yeah anyways charms in such good condition vintage oh I can't wait to try one out they're still hard you know a lot of times if air hits these things they liquefy and they'll leak on everything else so if anybody's encountered it you know you open up a vintage MRE and sometimes there are charms in there and what happens is you know humidity or whatever temperature fluctuations throughout the years and then next thing you know you got something like this at little liquefy because it's not you know thermo stabilized packaging or whatnot so let's get this organized out get a good night you know nice little presentation then we got some loose charms here which is interesting not exactly sure why they put in loose charms I mean even mint sucrose tablets would be a nice change for the loose ones which are in things like food packing abandon ship and bail you know what is the in-flight bailout rations I'm forgetting the name now excuse me but anyways let's get these out to this one this is what was rattling stuff like this breaking down in there a little bit getting mudra not exactly breaking down I can almost guarantee this gum is still good might be a little hard off here your vitamins they look like little little candies even those haven't really changed a lot of times they liquefy and the pitocin hydrochloride the vitamin b6 usually has this rancid undertone and just is so unpleasant I mean if anybody's opened up an old orange beverage powder from a vintage you know ration or you know this one's not my best to shape that might even was rattling anyways they will know you know or an old you ever have old vitamins they just smell weird anyways there you go then ah the cellophane bag to protect your stuff you know you don't want your charms getting wet put that up there there you go let's get a view of the instructions you know I'll read this first and then you can read it yourself instructions for use of life raft ration the contents of this can have been found by tests on rafts at sea to be the best solid food for eating while living on a life draft one to two packages of candy and one vitamin pill should be eaten each day by each man chewing the gum will help keep your mouth clean the food in this can is intended to feed five or six men for one day or one man for five or six days to protect the uneaten components carefully place them in the cellophane bag provided do not open another can until the contents of this can have been eaten as the candy and the vitamin pills must not be allowed to get wet the candy vitamins outs and gums should be saved for later use a Fisher caught good point better be hoping you're catching some fish check that out not bad now what I'm going to do is try and get a nice close-up of those instructions as well and then we're going to do some taste tests there you go mmm not bad actually this is beautiful this isn't really good shade 1967 so let's dig in I'm going to go for some charms first you know all charms from these life draft rations from World War two if you ever find one of these things and you want to fool around with it open it up do so if you have an eBay account because the charm packs this old vintage candy is worth up to $75 per pack so it's a pretty good investment if you have sex between eight or twelve I don't know what the old one had here I believe it was listed here as 806 complete packages of charms I think it's more but I might be wrong I mean we just looked at the picture here yeah so six old trans but these old charms are worth money up to $75 if intact and great you know mint condition I've seen them sell between 35 to 75 dollars on eBay all right let's try and get a nice close-up of these all right come on now what's with this zoom I'm gonna have to get used to this up at it my apologies guys this isn't the best video but it's pretty neat it like wants to focus when I'm moving around Oh anyways charms candy tablets net weight 7/8 of an ounce ingredients sugar natural and artificial flavor us certified colors citric acid corn syrup or cream cream of tartar anyway this is here quality protected with Reynolds Wrap aluminium packaging 1965 all right so I'm try and open these as neatly as possible I try and save the packaging for the stuff you really got to save it I mean I know ol Steve here is probably a hoarder yeah I am i hoard my ration items and refuse even if you know no look at that I wouldn't rip so many they just smell like the Chiclets let's give this a shot you know they really don't look bad at all mmm mmm nice cherry flavor oh wow I'm half tempted not to sell any of these charms because this has a nice flavor to it I jot that the new charms Jace actually I know they don't taste like this when my next reviews is going to be opening up a case of 1990 use me opening up a case of 1990 data production food packet abandoned ship which nobody here is probably seen I got a lot of stuff like that anyways mmm I guess they're all cherry flavored or I'm not sure those are next ones like red also but that might be like dark orange I don't know let's see you know I'm gonna tear into this pack let's see what we got here know what can't see at the mall so there's orange and red check it out right guys you get eight in the pack sorry about this ah that kills me but I just had to rip it open I usually don't do that mmm this still tastes perfect I mean I just want to bite into this after I am mmm oh yeah this thing is awesome mmm let's try out the orange and then let's try some mints no there's no point in taking the vitamins oh look at that one just popped out let's sell a fan just kind of breaking down see if we can get over here check that out hmm touch my tongue up to the CFA's any flavor no oh oh yeah oh that's answer b6 I hate that flavor yeah I'm putting those up back in the can watch this thing is liquefy all this is going to start breaking down now so I'm gonna have to sell some of these charms if I want to make a little money back this investment ran me $23 including shipping which I felt was a good deal or I'm just going to eat them when I'm out on my route driving around drive an orange one you know these things really aren't that hmm just smells weird nin tea but the flavor let's just look the Chiclets you know drowned out the flavor now these Chiclets are the same ones that are put in Vietnam War era see ration and meal combat individual packs I've actually seen these Chiclets sell for money and let it be known here these Chiclets this is 1960s era so if you see these on eBay and someone's trying to say it's from a k-ration or not I'm gonna get an example of k-ration era Chiclets one of these days so then you know the difference I've seen k-ration Chiclets sulfur $74.99 ones this stuff can go for money sorry for the complete not her lack of zoom enough to get used to this whole video thing I was just guy who took photos all these ears so anyway the gum made of gum base sugar corn syrup softeners starch and artificial flavor and it says American Chico company division manufacturer New York New York made in USA so you notice that's made in New York New York anymore while these factories moved you know outsourcing or whatever I mean where's the stuff made now certainly not in New York New York I almost guarantee it mmm anyway mmm I really don't want throw out this China it tastes so good mmm but I want to try it this gum and not make you guys wait so mmm I'll pop this back in the sec set it on this napkin ah man those are good the charms are really good they're perfect perfectly preserved I'm gonna rip into this if I can you know the old Chiclets are really good sometimes let's see if these are hard as a rock or not hmm yeah they are a little bit hmm but good flavor excuse me for the chewing sounds here I'm like a savage hmm great peppermint flavor goes right back to its gum form it does not turn the brittle this is gum popping oh yeah just be careful you might be lonely here those crunching sounds that one broke down the grill the first one didn't hmm so the consistency whether you oh that one just kind of turned back neck gum again okay hmm not bad right so like not to be gross here I might to show you the gum it's not brittle which is perfectly good gum will chew it down a minute lolly old gum has a weird grayish color I've had gum from 1950 in a life raft tablet ration not to be confused with this life drafter action that I was just showing you data production November 1950 and when you bite into that gum you're chewing it and if you dig it out your mouth it's like gray I don't know what kind of like you know gum base I used back in the day but hmm can't beat this yeah check it out it's the same thing see you leave that gray it's like nasty but it stretches it's a little Braley see it's just not like gum not a zit I don't make them what they used to anyways this is a survival ration akin to the life drop ration of War two but this is a pretty elusive unusual Vietnam era Vietnam War era example sorry for my crude introductory review I will get a little better at this I hope but anyways thank you for watching hope you or at least somewhat intrigued if you want to subscribe or yeah that's cool you know I'm just going to put these out there and let it be known rations military rations always fascinating you know they don't make them like they used to this is really cool not a fun time with it hope you guys have a great night thanks I'll be back soon
