ladies and gentlemen welcome back to salvage workshop all right so today is another episode of rescuing old iron and if you aren't familiar with rescuing old iron it is where i literally go out and i find properties where people you know they've got all kinds of old tools old machines tractors you know a lot of the stuff that i have you know things like this and i try and either rescue it buy it from them you know save it from the scrap yard and i try and find stuff that i can give new life to and so recently a friend of mine asked me if i'd be interested in going and helping him move a safe with a friend of his and so i was like sure yeah let's go so we went out there and we started loading the safe and the guy at the house said are you interested in a bulldozer and i'm like well sure heck yeah who doesn't need a bulldozer and so we are going to the farm where this bulldozer is located at i i don't know all of what they've got there they they've got some old tractors apparently they've got you know old tools i don't quite know so that's what we're headed now if you want to join me we're going to head on out there and and see what they've got come on [Music] all right so we're here we're going to look at some old machines and old tractors i'll start over here in the back of this uh this building i've got some old tractors and lawn garden tractors so there's this john deere here [Music] i am no expert but and i don't know if this is a john deere a or a b i'm sure you guys know a heck of a lot better than i do cool old tractor [Music] i love how they've got this makeshift uh to have the classic sun sun umbrella [Music] and then there's this tractor here and i don't know what it is [Music] if you guys know what these are what models they are [Music] definitely leave me a comment and let me [Music] know [Music] and then over here we've got some old lawn mowers the john deere 212 garden tractor john deere 318 garden tractor there's a little dump cart [Music] and then there's a john deere 210 and i believe the 210s both have onan engines up kohler so they've got [Music] kohler k24 so some other miscellaneous stuff here we're gonna head towards the inside of the shop now they've got a anvil just sitting out here that's cool [Music] i do not see any markings or a size on it all right so a lot of this newer stuff they've got here like this bobcat and they've got a kubota tractor they still use here at the property oh check this out there's a steel 066 [Music] i'm interested in that one there's another steel what is that that's a steel 048 av that one looks like a husqvarna that one is a john's run i've heard those are good chainsaws i don't know a whole lot about them i've never had one got chainsaw bars and chains for lots of the saws kind of organized there [Music] oh here's another steel and that was that's a steel steel 009 that's cool and there's a farm boss 141 and that looks like another [Music] it doesn't have a lot of parts but this looks like the oh six six over there just missing most of the body [Music] i'm definitely gonna see about getting some of these chainsaws looks like there's a craftsman chainsaw there and we got a i don't even know what the home light over here we've got a case tractor [Music] these uh half oval fenders tires looks like they're hole there that's cool i just love the look at this thing do you know what model this is that's cool and you got the the best exhaust cap you could ever ask bush light [Music] oh there's a concrete oh there's a walk behind concrete saw that's cool old stick welder some more chainsaws [Music] you never know where you're gonna find and where you're gonna find it [Music] so here's kind of a look from the top [Music] there's an old home light super too [Music] hmm [Music] hmm [Music] check out that old kitchenette used as a garage cabinet love that some old boat motors a johnson 9.5 and uh even rude 9.9 or a 99 not sure what chainsaw chains everywhere [Music] let's see if they'll sell me this cabinet here i i would love to have that in my shop [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] all right we're gonna head out and head up to some of the other barns and other buildings they've got out this way and actually before we do that start with we've got this old uh john deere tractor here with a loader [Music] i'm pretty sure this is a 4020 tractor three point doing the best they can at keeping it covered out here she said that her dad called it called it old green there's the loader hydraulics [Music] that is a good tractor i got some uh some old shovel art [Music] right so we are headed up that way to uh another couple buildings and uh some other things they've got out there that we're gonna take a look at [Music] here in this field we've got [Music] a brush mower brush hog three-point [Music] another brush log of sorts don't see the manufacturers on it [Music] they've got some cultivators and tillers [Music] an old plow a decent looking one should be john deere greenish [Music] a little cactus field not sure what's in this building [Music] an old uh wood burning stove here [Music] some grills and check that out it's a horseshoe a horseshoe like a wood rack of some kind put your wood store your wood in there next to your fireplace what's that thing a little flat belt [Music] the myers and bro ashland [Music] working head [Music] huh i don't know what that is self oiling working head six inch stroke so it's a catalog number v2950amts [Music] serial one zero one eight five zero meyer's self oiling working head six inch stroke thing looks cool no idea what it is i like it just cause it's cool check that out old stove [Music] that's cool not for me but cool this is the field out past the property [Music] [Music] all right so we're back here at this uh this barn and we're gonna see what we can find inside [Music] whole bunch of hand tools john deere 40 20 badges [Music] fuel tank right here we have a a roto tiller for a small john deere tractor sitting next to a small snowplow bit blade [Music] hydraulic cylinders for it that's a cedar that would go on the back of a tractor to spread seed more fertilizer here is a concrete mixer [Music] old school one just like i've got a very very similar one these things are like impossible to kill [Music] there are wasps everywhere ah there it is so that is the grill and hood for a tractor that they have up near the house okay so it's a farm all you didn't know what it was ford lgt 100 tractor a little garden tractor here lgt 100 cool looking unit [Music] the main thing we're interested in here is that that is a caterpillar that is a caterpillar 955 track excavator it is a track loader all right i want to jump in real quick and talk about the family and the property a little bit of the people that owned it so the people i'm dealing with are the daughter and her husband of the man that owned it his name was red and red bought this property you know i don't know how long ago it might have owned it like 20 plus years i'm not sure and red was you know the kind of guy that was he just a get her done kind of guy and so this entire episode and us kind of salvaging and rescuing this old track loader is in his honor before him this property was a a chicken farm apparently the long building that the track loader is in apparently was the stalls and the chicken run for the chickens and so the track loader apparently its job was to go and scoop right through the whole middle of it and push all the poop and extra you know junk and dirt out so they could deal with it outside of the barn and so it's been on the property for before red owned it and as well as the other loader that is the one in pieces that we're going to be getting so you know this pick and on this property one thing i really try and do i try and honor the memory of the people that were before me the people that you know use these tools and put them to work and so we're truly going to think about red and honor him through the process of all the machines and tools that we bring back to salvage workshop and try and get them put back to work so i just wanted to give you a little bit of history on it and kind of tell you that so in in red's memory let's get back out there and and keep going here's the tracks you got the big loader arm here and here's the bucket [Music] and then oh check these out check out that old chainsaw there and then the one next to it those are awesome i have to see about getting those yeah check that caterpillar out on that grill there all right so right in here the back of the tractor that i'm looking at this is a caterpillar 955 traxxavator it's a track loader as you can see i've been spraying wasps they are everywhere in this place and so i mean monster nests like that big size of my entire palm so i don't feel like getting stung today if i can avoid it as you can see here the old cat logo that's the loader arm it's the bucket right there [Music] [Music] so so over here we've got some implements protractors looks like here's the loader arm for a john deere some kind currently not set up with a bucket more parts for it here's a cab not sure what it fits homemade uh ripper or cultivator [Music] just a big pile of scrap metal probably some usable stuff in there big big set of forks big monster ones [Music] so right here we have another caterpillar 955 track loader and this is the the chassis here and then we've got the engine block and it's open it's been sitting outside for who knows how many years all the plates are loose and you can see down in all the different uh [Music] passages i mean even the covers on the motor are loose but there still may be some uh still maybe some valuable pieces on here and so the plan is to get as much of it as we can because parts are not cheap and we don't know if we're gonna have issues or what's gonna go on with the track loader but [Music] definitely kind of a cool thing to see [Music] [Music] we've got another cultivator of some sort and then i'm told in this box truck this freezer truck there's a whole bunch more of the track loader parts but it's currently locked so we're gonna have to cut the lock to get into it [Applause] so all right oh yeah so there are a bunch more parts in here so it's like a grill for a john deere tractor maybe the one that's up there whole clutch pack got some uh hydraulic cylinders here hoses a bunch of parts that i don't know what they are yeah cool and if we keep moving through the brush here here's another track for the 955 sitting there and then right here we have another entire loader arm with the bucket here's the bucket here's the arm little loader got another grill [Music] and this is some sort of a bell housing [Music] okay so that is actually the rear sprocket that on one of the sides they said had to had some work at one point that's probably the rear sprocket and as you can see they've they torched it off to get it out so yeah right here you can see the caterpillar grill and then there's a loader arm [Music] there's a roller for one of the tracks on the sides of the tracks here's another roller with the whole roller frame assembly looks like they're both here there's one here and one right there [Music] and then there's the other track right here basically wound up so that's awesome that is a great thing to find all these extra parts for this machine will be great in case i need to do any work on it not quite sure what this is oh this is a baler this is for making hay bales wow look at that old thing little flat belt driven right there big pulley runs those big monster spur gears i could be wrong but that sure is what it looks like to me [Music] look at that thing wow [Music] look how incredibly well built that thing is look at the size of those gears dang [Music] new holland machine company model 77 [Music] serial nine six six eight zero six five zero wow okay so it got pulled behind uh rolled on these tires here [Music] i'm not actually sure what that is [Music] it is a bill yeah yeah sharp knife edges give near sharp knife edges give neater bales yeah it's baler pretty cool that's a planter of some kind i believe [Music] yep says pounds per acre so you could adjust it's a john deere or something let's see the model number this is john deere right there here's where you put your seed [Music] here's where you would attach to tow it right there old truck bed trailer check that out little truck bed on probably the original axle and they just attached some angle iron or make it a trailer [Music] check out the size of this [Music] look at that thing that's a monster of a tree so they cut a lot of firewood on this property and a lot of uh tree companies would bring in their old stumps and trees that they didn't want to dispose of and they would cut it up so apparently somebody brought these [Music] monster chunks of whatever wood it is man you just don't find trees like that around these days very often that's cool uh so [Applause] so i got a bed full of uh mostly chainsaws got some old ones got some broken ones got some well none of them are new but that's all right so this is what i've brought home so far as well as a john deere riding mower and the track excavator the caterpillar 955 truck excavator will have its own video and possibly video series so moving the caterpillar excavator is not a small project it is something that's going to take quite a bit of time uh i plan on going back this coming week to work on it and try and get the pony motor started i am very optimistic this thing's gonna fire up and run and so we will we'll see i'll bring you along on the journey and we'll work on getting it back uh back here to the property so we can put it to work all right starting with this little guy we have a steel 09 little top handle saw seems to be in fairly good shape this is a steel 048 av um a beast of a saw it's a heavy one but it seems to have pretty good compression so i'm uh very optimistic about it this is probably a steel 06 or in that realm it looks very similar to the 066 that's over here and it was just sitting under one of the benches kind of just not really doing much so i i grabbed it because i might need it for parts for the other steel 0.06 so it looks rough and it'll probably never run again but i'll definitely be able to use it as a part saw and then this is the steel steel 06 which is a comparable saw to today's ms660 chainsaws set up with the right tooth and the right bar these babies can run up to like a 48 inch if not a a larger than that like a four foot plus bar this is currently a 25 inch bar and it it has some now it doesn't want to go at all well it has some issues and not totally sure what it's going to take to get it running but this ain't no baby saw this is a big boy saw and i've been looking for a big boy saw so this is just a can full of old new old stock hammer handles again if you've watched any of my videos you know i like finding handles so i i grabbed all those they said that they had no intentions of uh putting handles on hammers so i could i would happily they happily let me buy them these are two older saws this is a lombard 44168 chainsaw it looks to be complete everything including the tool that you use to tension and adjust the chainsaw chain on the bar and that's i mean you never find a tool much less a complete saw in what's otherwise fairly good condition as far as compression goes it has a recoil where you have to pull hard for the teeth to to split out and catch it so if i it feels like it's got some good compression so that's exciting this is a home light 5-30 chainsaw it is a cool looking saw heavy is all get out but this thing is cool looking and it also has fairly good compression so i haven't had a chance to try and start them but man even just holding this thing you had to be a man to run this thing it's a monster especially for as long as you sometimes have to run chances so this box i was able to find some extra parts found a bunch of chainsaw chain for a couple of the saws i got a handful of bars the bigger bars i think these are 25 inchers there's four steel chainsaw bars some other miscellaneous nuts and bolts for who knows what steel saw or whatever and i i grabbed them because at the end of the day i've got a box of uh steel parts and if i ever need parts i dig in there first and sometimes i can get something and saves the day other times i gotta go buy parts but there was this plus the box itself was kind of cool somebody probably the previous owner they literally this is one of those ones that folds open one half in the front half they screwed it together here and then on this far side i can get it to close again so the plastic hinges here and here broke and so instead of just getting rid of the case they took some metal hinges and screwed them right into the case and more than likely that'll hold for who knows how long i mean i love ingenuity like that and out at red's farm that's the kind of ingenuity that you know i saw everywhere it's one of those things that you just you don't just throw something away because it's broken you figure out a way to continue to use it and make it work i'll end up reusing this case and i'll use it for one of the saws that i have well i don't know if it'll be from the one of the ones that i got from this farm or not but you know i like having cases for saws it keeps them better protected keeps them out of the weather um and you know chainsaws are not cheap tools and they are easily broken if if uh let if you let it bounce around in the bed of a truck or or whatever and so cases even in this shape are great so yeah between the home light the lombard and the steel chainsaws i'd say i made out pretty pretty well they're definitely they all need work the only ones that might run right now is the o48 and the steel 009 i haven't actually put any gas in them yet to try and run them but man i'm excited i got definitely some cool projects i'm really honestly most excited about the steel 066 because of its capability to run a big bar all right let's try out this little uh 009 and see if it'll fire for us [Music] first pull first pull no way [Music] um since i don't know how old this gas is we're gonna we're gonna dump it out now now that i know it runs might as well get rid of it get some good clean gas in there don't look too bad one thing i do when i don't know how long a saw has been run or how it's long has been sitting i'll sometimes take a little bit of the mix oil and i'll put it in the gas tank basically to make it a little higher ratio of oil to gas so that internal parts that maybe haven't been moving very long can get lubricated it won't hurt anything it'll burn off it's not going to hurt the the saw it all so i always use high octane um ethanol free gas because it is better for the carburetors in these babies and around here the only way to get ethanol free gas is to get like 91 octane gas so um so that's pretty much the other reason but that's what steel calls for is a non-ethanol high octane chain gas mix in their saws so i try and adhere to that it has served me well over the years a heck of a lot less carburetor problems because ethanol the corn that they use to make ethanol fuels gums up carburetor diaphragms and the and the jets and whatnot and so that's the main reason uh [Music] [Applause] uh well that baby runs like a top could probably use a new chain this one's getting kind of teeth are getting real small but all in all that baby's a win all right so the other bigger thing that i got from uh the farm is this john deere 318 it has an onan engine on it it it has 1025 hours and i don't even know if it runs i don't really know anything about it but i figure it could be a fun project trying to get it running and it's a good unit from the research i've done it's supposedly these motors are just they just tanks you can just go go go gonna need some new tires or at least tubes the seat's got a big crack in it got some wires that are broken here no big deal birds are a mouse nest in the in the air box this firewall uh foam is just disintegrating so it could be a great little little tractor to have around so well i hope you enjoyed the journey as much as i did i hope you enjoyed the tour of the property it's one of those things you don't get to see every day and so you know i feel honored to have had the ability to take you with me and to go out there and bring home these amazing chainsaws this john deere and especially the trackscavator the passion of mine i truly love going and finding old tools and machines and bringing new life to them and putting them back to work and so you know in memory of red that's exactly what we're going to do with what you see before you as well as and especially with this track excavator it's gonna be awesome when we first hear that thing turn back on and and start putting out black smoke out of that out of that smoke stack so i plan on starting it up driving it out of there and putting it on a trailer and bringing it back to the property if you've ever run one of these babies let me know i'd love to hear your thoughts it's gonna be fun i definitely have some uh some ideas for it so yeah join me and there'll be more videos on that to come but for now i hope you guys have a great one take it easy you
