19 most famous shipwreck sites after a life at sea where do ships and submarines go when they retire why they haunt still shores or stayed beached on dry land as they slowly rest in a road here are where some of the most famous shipwrecks ended up 19 bay of nuit debout located in Mauritania the bay of dawah Daboo is considered one of the largest if not the largest yard of abandoned ships in the world the shipyard here is also a notable tourist attraction for visitors coming to the bay at one point in time it was referred to as port at TN by the French merchants who settled there at the turn of the 20th century shipping trade was a big part of the economy in the area and the first ship to ever be abandoned in the bay was the Shah salute Lobot during the 1920s within the next few decades abandoned ships were parked here by tenfold to this day more ships arrived here to be abandoned all the time 18 King Philip the King Philip was once a first class clipper ship which now lies beneath the sands of Ocean Beach near San Francisco this ship was built during the mid 1800s having launched in the year 1856 though it was wrecked by 1878 nowadays you can see it barely peeking over the mud on the shore and is one of the many ships that have found themselves wrecked in the waters near San Francisco the wreckage first appeared in the area in 1982 where it was visible in the ground throughout the next two decades the ship would come in and out of visibility with it disappearing in 1985 only to appear again in 2007 seventeen Aberle ad bay the shore of a burl ad Bay in East Lothian Scotland has become a site of shipwrecks from vessels that once sailed the sea during the late 19th and early 20th century there is a count of 2 XT crafts embedded into the sands of the bay other wrecks to be found on the site are rusted submarines ships and other miscellaneous parts of sea vessels that can be seen in the sand in total there are eight historic wrecks of fishing vessels in a burl AD Bay which are considered ancient ments 16 truck lagoon the wrecks at truck lagoon are one of the most famous in the world sightseers can observe the wrecks and Truk Lagoon or took in the islands of the federal states of micronesia scuba divers visit trick lagoon to check out the wrecks of old World War 2 vessels that have been rusted over in the sea and become part of the underwater wildlife after the events of operation hailstone in 1944 over 275 airplanes and 60 ships sank to the floor of the Pacific Ocean where they've been rotting ever since thus creating one of the biggest wasn't enough time or means to decommission them properly most of them were just largely forgotten about fourteen a long ship breaking yard along is a ship breaking yard located on the south coast of India for the past 30 years this site has been a worldwide center for ship breaking where old ships come to basically be dismantled one of the sea vessels here of note happens to be one name sea wise giant which is considered the longest ship ever built and was demolished here in 2009 at along at least half of the ship breaking remains are recycled and is among one of the larger scale retired shipyards in the world working at along is of course dangerous which is just one issue that's stirred up controversy concerning the site thirteen they're kill this tugboat dump is located in Arthur Panama in 1869 the 80 ton submarine vessels hull is pictured here word has clearly been rotting for over a century and a half it now lies in Panama's pearl islands and has been the subject of two documentary films tank Sleeping Bear the shipwrecks found beneath the water surface and Sleeping Bear are located near the Lower Peninsula of Lake Michigan a famous ship found here was the francisco morazán which sailed off from the city of chicago back in 1960 there was over 940 tons of cargo when it was met with fog and snow which proved too much for the ship in the end it was abandoned by the next month which left the ship to just sink in rust into the lake waters since the owners of the ship were never found and there was no one to deal with the removal of it from the water nine nan de where ships have sunk creating an old shipyard site for the old sea vessels the ships were part of atomic testing during in the 1940s one such being the USS Independence not only that but they're said to be over 55 gallons of radioactive waste and drums dumped here as well the USS Saratoga lies here too with a lot of the vessels found here having been forgotten about 6 a job a boon to us in the depth of the Red Sea is a location referred to as the Rex of Abu newest it is the site of at least seven shipwrecks that line near the triangle-shaped coral reef some of the ships here include the SS Carnatic olden time and M and a scene pictured here the giannis D divers come here all the time to check out the metal ruins of old ships that have met their demise in the open waters along with the rusted metal is a diverse amount of wildlife that also makes it a popular diving site find your voice Basin this body of water is seen as unfit for swimming but that doesn't stop people from checking out the wrecks found at the Jura basin in South Australia near the upper region of Port Adelaide River here you can see the skeletal remains of old ships in the process shipbreaking it's not the active ship breaking yard at once was and remnants of that part of history can still be seen here for a curtain artificial reef it is one of the largest reef projects in the world and has been a site of wreck sea vessels since 1968 since then there have been over 32 ships cars and other pieces of vehicles and vessels that have been allowed to sink and become part of the reef this shipwreck in Australia was established by the underwater research group of Queensland and as a project that has attracted much more marine life to the waters three aral sea the dry sand pictured here would be the last place you think you'd see so many ships come together as they said I'll run down in the Sun and yet the ships on the aral sea are some of the most prominent and famous in the world located in a basin on the border of the countries of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan the shipwrecks of the Aral Sea have been a strange sight to behold ever since the level of the sea started to rapidly decline by the 1960s to skeleton coast if these skull and crossbone gates are anything to go by it's the fact that skeleton coast in Namibia is one of the most well known shipwrecks in the world skeleton coast is found along the coast of Namibia along the Atlantic Ocean rusted chips have been beached here the environment rusting and breaking them down to seem like skeletal formations along the beach why Madani this is one of the top three largest ship breaking yards in the world and is still one of the most active Kidani located 50 miles northwest of Karachi Pakistan is a yard that is the location of 132 ship breaking plots a few decades ago it was the largest ship breaking yard in the world and even now that it has been surpassed on that front it is still one of the most well known and leads the world in its shipbreaking efficiency [Music]
