from deadly snakes spiders and insects to vicious big cats and hungry piranhas here are 17 of the deadliest animals in the Amazon so incredible game of seven asking if we ever get surprised while research in these episodes well you know what there are some facts that pop up that can definitely put you off your lunch and it can be a scary and an appetizing job at times but look somebody's got to do it might as well be me Cheers tree Boas now the good news is these snakes are non-venomous the bad news is they like to coil around tree branches where they feed mostly on small mammals frogs and lizards known to grow around six feet long they have highly developed front teeth that are proportionately bigger than other non-venomous snakes meaning they can deliver painful bites like all Boas this species will grip prey with the mandibles then tighten the coils until its victim dies from suffocation common vampire bat did you know that bats comprise more than 50% of all mammal species in the Amazon experts say that there are more than 950 species of the critters and that includes three that are known to drink blood to survive like vampires these animals only come out at night but they don't actually suck the blood of the prey instead they use the razor-sharp teeth to gouge a hole in the victims skin to lap up that fluid while they will feast on birds the vampire bats are more likely to prey on horses and cattle and they have been known to take the blood of humans as well well there are no ill effects from blood loss or from the bite itself the wound can become infected and a small number of the flying mammals can carry rabies assassin bugs these insects might be small but there are among the deadliest of predatory insects identified by their proboscis certain species of this insect are known to camouflage themselves to better ambush the prey now once cornered the assassin bug lives up to its name by using its trunk like organ to inject toxic saliva into the victims which dissolves the organs from the inside out sounds lovely the dangerous enough to pose a threat to large insects in the Amazon as well and they're not so good for humans either did you know that a subfamily of these insects can transmit chagas disease-- an infection that can potentially damage vital organs and results in around 12,000 deaths each year giant river otter these critters can weigh around 70 pounds and measure some six feet long that makes them the largest auto species in the world and the found only in the amazon la plata and orinoco river systems they belong to the weasel family and normally prey on Turtles fish crabs and snakes but the coniferous mammals are also known to go after more dangerous cuisine as well giant otters can form small groups that claw and bite at anacondas before devouring and according to some reports the big beasts form pairs that have attacked Caymans then consumed the brain around 45 minutes that's including the bones skulls and everything else you almost think those giant otters look too cute to be such scary apex predators Amazonian giant centipede and the mere sight of these venomous arthropods is enough to freeze your blood at some 14 inches or 35 centimeters adult specimens can grow to about the length of a human adult forearm these coniferous critters will scarf down smaller prey including mice lizards birds they can move faster than they look too and are able to scale walls as they search for prey they are known to climb up the sides of cave walls to the ceiling dangling from that position the centipedes have been documented to snatch bats right from out of the air as those mammals fly past [Music] harpy eagle it is the largest Raptor found in the Americas with talons that can grow some five inches long and that's the biggest of any living eagle this spear Despres uses those big claws to snatch up a variety of cuisine including ant eaters armadillos and monkeys some reports claim the critters have even flown off with deer and capybaras and those huge rodents can weigh around a hundred fifty pounds some people also say that those stories indicate the harpy eagle is capable of snatching up children flying off of them now there have been no verified accounts of that ever happening it sure does make for a scary visual pit vipers various species of these highly venomous snakes show up in many different parts of the world and that includes the Amazon basin certain species can grow to around five feet long and are recognized by the color patterns that typically include a lot of green other snakes roaming the region include the South American rattlesnake it is widely distributed and can grow more than six feet long within its range it causes a lot of serious medical problems and its venom is known to cause permanent blindness various line said snakes can be found in the Amazon as well those creatures can grow more than six and a half feet long and in the Americas experts say they are responsible for more human fatalities than any other group of venomous snakes bull shark these big scary fish can thrive in either saltwater or freshwater environments so that makes them a potential danger in almost any water thanks to their extremely aggressive nature many experts consider them to be the species to most frequently attack humans along with great whites and tiger sharks in the Amazon bull sharks have been found in Peru more than 2,000 miles from sea a number of factors have led to them being regarded as the world's most dangerous shark species and that includes the large size with some specimens weighing nearly 700 pounds also they're immensely powerful jaws and their propensity for wanting to live near heavily populated areas electric eel now these so-called eels are actually knife fish they're not really eels at all but they are considered extremely dangerous due to their ability to generate powerful electrical charges of over 800 volts that's usually more than enough to discourage predators and to stun prey like small mammals amphibians fish they aren't known for producing fatal attacks on humans but it is thought their ability to discharge multiple shocks could lead to heart failure the found in fresh waters of the Amazon and can grow up to eight feet long and weigh over 40 pounds green anaconda weighing more than 150 pounds it is not only considered the world's heaviest snake it is also one of the longest snakes in the world at more than 17 feet long this constrictor snake has a favored method of attacking its prey the reptile will float under the water surface keeping the snouts just above the water when a victim stops by to take a sip the Anaconda springs out to strike and coil about its prey once the victim has been asphyxiated the snake devours its meal these creatures have been known to attack humans but stories of them actually eating humans have never been verified at least not so far piranhas now that name alone conjures up images of carnivorous fish baring razor-sharp teeth and attacking anything that enters their environment but there are more than 60 species of piranha and most of scavengers eating plant life it's the infamous red-bellied piranha that gives these fish its infamous reputation thriving in the Amazon River they have the sharpest teeth and most powerful jaws of any of the species hunting in groups of more than 100 these foreigners prefer smaller prey but they can't attack large animals in a bloody feeding frenzy bullet ant now it is ironic that one of the biggest dangers in the Amazon rainforest is posed by such a small creature the bullet ant is just over an inch long which actually ranks it among the world's larger ant species and its name comes from the severity of its potent stink victims equate the agony to that of being shot the insects venom causes intense pain that leaves the victim worn-out weak and swollen and because that misery can last for a full day the critter is also known as the 24-hour ant did you know that many experts rank the ants sting as the most painful of any insect but unless you're allergic to the venom that won't kill you although it might feel that way [Music] Jaguar as far as apex predators go this one is kind of an equal-opportunity hunter the big cats are known to feast on close to 90 different animals from small mammals to deer to adult comments and if humans are unwise enough to cross its path the Jaguar will go after those mammals too the creature is known for having a bite that is strong enough to pierce turtle shells after tigers and lions they had the third most powerful bite force of all Felix did you know that Jaguars are as much as home in the water as they are on land the strong swimmers and are known to not only carry large prey in the water but can also hold caucuses the size of cows up a tree to avoid flood levels Brazilian Wandering Spider now this arachnid is believed to carry the most potent neurotoxic venom among any extant spider more than 20 times more powerful than that of the black widow in fact Guinness once named it the world's most venomous spider the wandering spiders bite can result in great pain paralysis and a fixation the venom can also cause priapism which results in uncomfortable arousal that can last for many hours but can also lead to impotence even though some species are found in the Amazon this aggressive arachnid does like to wander and it can turn up just about anywhere including in shipments of bananas [Music] black caiman growing to around 20 feet law these creatures can weigh close to 900 pounds making them one of the world's largest living reptiles as well as the largest predator in the Amazon basin these crocodilians were once nearly extinct in the Amazon but they were saved by strict anti hunting laws and the victims of this apex predator likely wished those laws had never been enforced this critter will feast on sloths and armadillos and will also take on some of the other critters on a list like anacondas and giant otters and if no other prey is available they are known to turn on other species of kaimon as well and you know what humans they can be on the menu as well so how about all these dangerous animals in the Amazon and we didn't even mention the infamous can dye room those are the small parasitic fish that are infamous for traveling up the urethra of anyone foolish enough to relieve themselves in the river at once there that Tiny Terror will lodge itself in the victims urinary tract and that requires extensive and painful surgery to remove now if there is any good news and all of that it would be that documented cases are extremely rare so by the way to follow up on incredible game of sevens comment at the top of the episode yep and this would be an example of research that can certainly give one the Jim jobs poison dart frog now in nature animals with bright vibrant colors often carry a lethal toxin coloration as a way to warn off predators now these amphibians found in the Amazon rainforest can secrete a poison that is powerful enough to kill ten adult humans the creatures gained the name because indigenous peoples use the frog secretions to poison the dots of the blowguns now it is not exactly known how the amphibians have gained their toxicity experts think it may have to do with the plant poisons contained in the prey they eat which includes beetles and ants
