intercede for their safety and protection in carrying out this noble duty in the battle against the kovit 19 pandemic that the holy spirit will give them wisdom and knowledge in aiding the recovery of team that we are invited to reflect on is our pandemic her sorrows our pain our anguish our struggle of humanity is very much part and parcel of the sorrow and the journey of mary and so as we prepare our hearts and minds to celebrate this eucharist let us prepare our hearts by acknowledging our human weakness our faults and seek god's mercy and forgiveness i confess to almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that i have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words in what i have done and what i have failed to do through my fall through my fall through my most grievous faults therefore i ask blessed mary and the burden all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring submitted so humbly that his prayer was heard although he was son he learned to obey true suffering but having been made perfect he became for all who obey him the source of eternal salvation the word of the lord thanks be to god save me o lord in your love save me o lord in your life in you o lord i take refuge let me never be put to shame in your justice set me free hear me and speedily rescue me save me o lord in your love be a rock of refuge for me a mighty stronghold to save me for you are my rock my stronghold for your name's sake lead me and guide me save me o lord in your love release me may my soul die goodness grace [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] happy is the virgin mary who without dying won the palm of martial beneath the cross of the lord [Music] the lord be with you and believe your spirit a reading from the holy gospel according to john glory to you near the cross of jesus to this mother and his mother's sister mary the wife of clophas and mary of magdala seeing his mother and the disciple he loved standing near her jesus said to his mother woman this is your son then to the disciple he said this is your mother and from that moment the disciples met a place for her in his home the gospel of the lord praise to you lord jesus christ a very good evening my dear sisters and brothers we joined the parish of our lady of soros as we celebrate the feast day when we begin to take a moment and look at the cross the cross has been a very powerful image icon or symbol in our faith to every christian the cross has been part and parcel of life journey whether it's a liturgical celebration in hymns in songs in rituals and rites in any way that we could relate our faith the cross has been the center of everything yesterday we celebrated the exaltation of the of the cross the triumph of the cross it was a moment for us to look up at the cross as jesus would say when i am lifted up i will draw all people to myself we took a moment to look at that whole experience of the triumph of the cross today we are still at the cross but today we are with mary our mother today we look in a very different experience of what it is to stand at the cross in pain in anguish in misery in grief in all moments when i looked at the team of this evening's reflection our pandemic for sorrow there are many ways that you could look at this whole experience of the journey of our life at this very moment you and i are in the midst of some form of sorrowful mystery when you take the moment to look at the traditions of the church that has been handed on since the very beginning with relation or in relation to the seven sorrows of mary you will find yourself in some moment of it when i was sitting behind listening and in a prayerful moment trying to engage myself in one of those seven sorrows in the rosary that we prayed before the eucharist you could start with the prophecy of simeon and simeon prophesied to marian says this child this man jesus will bring about the rise and the fall of humanity in many forms but amidst this great act mary appears a sword will pierce simply meaning there will be a moment of pain in anguish did mary respond did mary react mary just stood in a moment of stillness and silence as she received this prophecy and then you find yourself in the second sorrowful mystery which was the flight to egypt the struggle that joseph and mary was having with the baby jesus in their journey and yet in that dream they were asked to pack their bags and leave for egypt anxious anxiety uncertainty in the midst of life they had to move did mary respond did mary react didn't marry question and then we come to the moment when we have the story of jesus lost in the temple there was a moment of pain there was a moment of not knowing what was happening and unfolding and scripture tells us when this happened mary treasured and pondered them in her heart did she relate this to react all she did to her son was to treasure them and to ponder them that was the third sorrowful mystery and then you found the moment when mary met jesus on the way to his crucifixion face to face mother and son had come to a moment of stillness and mary could have asked 101 questions to her son but she stood there looking at the sun then you find the moment when the son is crucified and dies on the cross and mary stood there looking upward wondering is this all that i have begun this journey she may have asked 101 questions in her moment from the moment of the annunciation till this very moment she just wondered what lied ahead of her life and as she stood there with mary of claus and mary of magdala and with the beloved disciple apostle john she just stood there and then we come to the sixth and the most painful moment of any mother would have had and that is the descent of the body of christ into her arms and in that moment of pain she could have just given up at that moment but she stood in silence again and finally at the seventh station we have what is called the burial of our lord jesus christ when you take a moment in in the moment of your stillness tonight and you wonder what did mary do in that moments of all this unfolding there were questions there were uncertainties that mary was seeking and yet when you look at that image of that open heart and the seven swords that pierce her heart the seven sorrows are unfolding every moment of her life we are in the midst of the pandemic there is a job transition or some of us may have lost our job some of us are finding it hard to make ends meet in the journey of our life some of us are struggling be it a migrant a refugee or a local and we are struggling with many questions in this moment of pandemic and all we do is to bring this to mary to the lord tonight when you ask me on a personal level on a personal note if i could in any way relate to any of the seven sorrows of mary i've always found myself at home with the sixth one i've always found this very much close to the core of my my vocation as a priest when mary holds on to the body of the lord christ we call it the piata the pieta in italian in italian pieta simply means compassion that's pieta the work of michelangelo piata compassion pasio in latin it means to suffer with to feel the pain and if you have taken a moment to look at this image for the longest time of your life you will understand what anguish and pain what grief and misery is at that moment of a mother to hold on to a son in the journey of life and yet mary didn't utter a word as scripture keeps telling us mary treasured mary pondered them in a heart how did she do this how did she find the strength to step into this mystery of life it stems from one word it's about her faith the mother of faith the mother of the church that's how mary lived her life because from the very beginning of the annunciation till the very end of mary's life and the life of jesus mary accompanied jesus that's all mary walked with jesus mary stood with jesus mary realized what it is to be with the lord and that was her faith because everything that mary did knowing christ was the destiny of life and that is why she could say do what he tells you to do she was in that moment of listening and attuning to every moment of what god wanted her to do and she was everything in a total abandonment and if you to ask ourselves today how do we find this mary in you mary gives us the courage mary gives us the consolation and mary gives us the faith today to walk amidst the trials the tribulations the anguish and the pain and the miseries of life the emptiness and the brokenness of life when everything collapse in life mary gives us the courage that is why when you and i pray the hail mary without fail when we come to that beautiful line holy mary mother of god pray for us now and at the hour of our death it simply means at the moment of our pain of our suffering of our dying to ourselves every moment we ask mary to accompany us with jesus in the sun with the sun that is all married us this journey of our life that is unfolding to us these days has been a moment when we begin to see the very act of god in our lives and all we need to do at this moment is to place ourselves in the lord mary walked with us i would like to just end my sharing with you this morning on this whole experience of mary of a little incident that took place in my life many years ago it was just after my priesthood and i i was assisting in a parish back home and i was working with the standard four kindergarten kids children and i was invited to talk to them about the stations of the cross and it was a very exciting experience because as i came to the fourth station i asked the children what's the fourth station what's the fourth station and they all scream out jesus meets the mother jesus meets his mother i said very good kids you've got it and i told the kids during that encounter of face to face between a mother and a son and a son and a mother i told the kids i believe strongly there may have been an exchange of words there may have been a conversation that took place on that encounter the mother would have said something the son would have said something you know in that moment of pain and misery what do you think jesus would have said or what mary would have said so one of the kids raised his hands in the front row and he said this father father and i said yes what is it jesus would have said not fair not fair not fair i said okay you take a seat boy that's good and i said anyone else in the class have anything else to say one another kids screamed on the top of his voice father father i said yes what's it get back to them get back to them make it even get back to them i said okay you sit down that's enough anyone else and i remember this young girl's face at this very moment she was seated at the back of the class and she was not well during that class she's father could i answer and i said come forward and i said what what word sort of vection says mary would have told jesus carry on son carry on till the end carry on son carried on till the end one of the greatest gift that mary would have given us tonight is the gift of perseverance carry on son carry on till the end courage faith and strength in the gift of mary in our lives this trials this tribulations will continue my dear friends because each one of us tonight we have our own story it could be our marriage it could be our family it could be our job it could be our illness it comes in different shapes and in different colors of life and the story continues in our life the only words that we could hold on tonight is the words carry on son carry on till the end because that's the journey of faithfulness till the end as saint paul would say i fought the good fight i kept the faith i finished the race let us step into the table of the eucharist this evening and ask the lord for that strength that emits mary's sorrows as she shares in our difficulties and intercedes for our needs which we now bring before the table of the lord the response to the prayer of the faithful is lord hear our prayer for the church that the memorial of our lady of sorrows will inspire her to continue having persevering faith especially in phase of difficulty and persecution as she continues to remain steadfast in her belief towards our lord and savior we pray to the lord our r for our world today as it grapples with the koi 19 pandemic that all leaders and health care workers through the intercession of our lady of sorrows will unite the efforts to help the vulnerable as we pray for the recovery of those who accept the success of the vaccination program and the discipline of all peoples to follow regulations to minimize the spread of the virus we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for our country malaysia that our leaders will be guided by the holy spirit in all their decision-making to build and guide the nation towards peace harmony and prosperity respecting the rights of minorities and the vulnerable and safeguarding the underprivileged during this time of the pandemic we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for our clergy that as they participate in their annual retreat this month they will be renewed physically mentally and spiritually so that they are further empowered in their service towards the kingdom of god we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for all of us here that in all our struggles and pains and your throughout the pandemic period we will draw hope and inspiration from our most sorrowful mother and remain fervent in prayer just as how she stood by our savior through his passion and suffering we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for our personal needs and preface this evening we bring before the lord the intentions offered in this mornings this evening's mars we bring before the lord all the families of the parish that have consecrated themselves we pray for ourselves and for the intentions of those who have asked us to pray for them especially those who are in hospitals during this pandemic those who are isolation those who are in quarantine those who are in loneliness in anguish and pain those who have lost their loved ones for the lord knows what lies in our heart and we bring them to the table of the lord tonight the lord be with you the holy spirit she conceived your only begotten son and without losing the glory of virginity she brought forth into the world eternal light jesus christ our lord through him the angels praise your of our lady of sorrows today and on behalf of the parish we would like to thank father michael raymond for celebrating our first day march with us today thank you father michael malaysia day we will have our seven sorrows rosary at 5 pm followed by month the main celebrant is father joe steven from ippo coming friday we invite the parishioners and those who join us in the celebration to have a day of prayer and fuss to ask god to end this pandemic on the same day friday 6 pm we will have holy hour and 8 pm we will have mars in mandarin the main celebrant is monsignor stephen liu the program for saturday and sunday is same as usual although many of you are not able to join us but through our activities many of you contribute and join us in the celebration the candle we have around the statue of our lady of sorrow is an effort to join to up together as family individual to ask for intercession of our lady we have about 200 plus calendars offered and all this money will be used for the outreach program on coming friday we will outreach to those in need and instead of when we fast we will share our food with those in needs so please continue to stay with us to join us for this week-long celebration thank you very much before the final blessing i just want to thank monsignor loschus for the invitation but most importantly to echo what he just said a blessed feast day to each one of you today as we celebrate the gift of mary our mother in our lives the lord be with you and with your spirit by your heads for god's blessings may god who through the child bearing of the
