has got to give here this afternoon in ann arbor you see the numbers michigan's offense averaging 37 a game iowa allowing only 10. 533 in total offense 242 is what the defense is giving up so stay with us over 113 000 on hand the weather has been ordered and it has come out perfect iowa taking on michigan the and the hawkeyes ranked number 15 in the country iowa has won the toss and they did not defer they want the football to start this game this afternoon and you're not surprised at that are you not at all you're going against one of the worst defenses in the big ten you've been off for a week get out there get ricky stanzy throw it around and adam robinson run it some the last time that we saw the iowa hawkeyes they had a tandem of backs who were very very tough to stop well there's been an injury and one of them is not there so adam robinson is still the guy that they count on but a couple of other people that don't have the same kind of oomph i guess you might say so the situation coker and brad rogers we will see today from time to time as you look at scores of the big ten today boy fourth quarter indiana having trouble with arkansas state michigan wins over illinois purdue has defeated minnesota and of course seven o'clock tonight eastern time it is ohio state at camp randall to take on wisconsin brookhaisen prepares to kick it off [Applause] tries to get outside on the left and a flag comes down yeah i think they're going to get a face mask you're going to tag 15 yards on the end of this it was terence talbot a backup cornerback that got the face mask of johnson coulions dave whitbolt the referee in today's ball game and this is during the return personal foul face mask 15 of the kicking key 15 yards first down these are kind of little things that have continued to creep up on this coaching staff and they they did a pretty good job of coverage on the kick but with the 15-yard penalty the ball almost out to the 40-yard line and rich rodriguez been spending more time with his defense we're going to see some linebackers shuffling in and out kenny denman's will get the start at middle linebacker over obi isaiah today adam robinson right at the middle nothing let's take a look at the profile for the starting quarterback for the iowa hawkeyes ricky stanzy last year had some struggles with interceptions four of them were returned for touchdowns one of them on the second play against michigan but he's really improved in that area only two interceptions on the season so far and nearly 70 percent completion percentage having a wonderful senior season [Applause] and talk about the impact players well for iowa it's going to be adam robinson you mentioned the injury to jewel hampton also brandon weger a guy they were expecting to contribute this year is out for personal reasons and then defensively mike martin one of the best true nose guards in the country 6-1 300 pounds a wrestling state champion so far iowa has gotten zero movement at the line of scrimmage third down the line to make is the 48. stanzy first throw of the afternoon gets it out to robinson looks a head down and on the second effort nope he stepped out of bounds i thought he might have had the first down but they're going to step him out at the 45 which is about three yards short james rogers defensively well you've got to feel great if you're greg robinson the defensive coordinator you knew kirk ferentz and his staff was going to come out running the ball and you have to feel good about getting a three and out to start the game and put denard robinson back on the field as quickly as pos on the field for the first time excuse me as quickly as possible gal on the deep man and this is a wobbly short kick off the side of donahue's foot and is going to be out of bounds at around the 25-yard line so michigan will take it over with a good field position and a good three and out stop for them denard robinson you've heard a lot about him and for good reason really nice visit with him yesterday we talked about he gave a real passionate speech after the loss last week to michigan state we asked him what it was about and he said i felt like i left let my family down i just didn't play well i've got to learn from it and he did spend a lot of time this week breaking down the film and picking apart his mistakes from the shotgun he'll hand it off to vincent smith breaks it open out of the 35 that's enough for the first down and a 10-yard gain to open the football game micah hyde defensively for the hawkeyes they ran right over that left side we were talking about i'm telling you you overlook this offensive line because of the skill of denard robinson but we were both really impressed with this front [Applause] this time robinson will hold on to the football and it'll be a gain of four and david mulk the center came up gimpy after that play and rocco corey will most likely be the replacement and why this is so important because in the shotgun run game the snap is everything you know you saw the struggles that florida had earlier in the year in we did arkansas and texas a m and both those teams having struggles getting the ball to their quarterback so the way that this offense runs beyond just the blockiness job that the center has he's got to move and put that shotgun snap in perfect position every single time [Applause] you can hear the applause as as he gets up and he is going to walk off the field under his own steam yesterday and watching video which ed and i normally spend quite a bit of time on friday mornings doing it was hard not to keep an eye on this offensive line and milk one of the real you know good guys in the middle of it there at center and they can afford to not have him in play hopkins in the ball game at tailback number 33 he was a true freshman and the impact players now that michigan is on offense well and uh as we were ready hopkins of course gets the first carry in the ball game for himself and they need power they want a 230 pounder that all the other guys are 180 and tyler sash and strong safety he's gonna have a tough day tracking down robinson play action third down pass complete at the 40-yard line junior hemingway the red shirt junior out of conway south carolina and this is what robinson gives you obviously you're always afraid he's going to run but very good thrower on the run he can throw while he's moving very accurately stefan hopkins stays in the ball game at tailback he is a true freshman and that is hopkins who takes it straight ahead that's a gain of about seven yards in the play jeremiah hunter uh comes over to make the tackle watch the movement right here on the nose guard mike daniels schilling just completely washes him four yards across the field up into hopkins to make the tackle he's going to be short of the first down they'll mark him down at the 29. [Applause] and now michigan right back at the line of scrimmage running their hurry up hopkins again as they use him as a battering ram but this time he will not get back to the line of scrimmage that's christian ballard who will be there to make the stop a senior out of lawrence kansas and it is fourth down for the wolverines yeah and absolutely you're going for it if you're michigan not just because you're at home but because your kicking game has really struggled with two for seven on field goals between gibbons gibbons and brookhaven so now you've got to be careful this obviously i think it's going to be a run pass option for dinard robinson only has the first down he broke it open on a second effort all the way to the 21. first and ten for the michigan wolverines and it was ballard who had a hold of him and he couldn't secure him and get him down now what what a spectacular athlete a bad snap that time from the back up center corey two iowa defenders standing right in the backfield makes them both miss and picks up the first down vincent smith the smaller running back comes back into tailback five sits 180 pounds the ball thrown out to cougar the tight end he makes the catch and it's a gain of five well this early in the season bernard robinson goes over a thousand yards nipping at the heels of antoine randall l who's a guy who kirk ference and his defensive staff said this is the last time we saw a guy with this kind of ability it was anton randall this is the tenth play of the drive for michigan nothing to the right takes it back to the left inside he'll go to the nine-yard line clayburn will make the stop but vincent smith i said he's only five six 180 but he kind of hid behind those big offensive linemen and then squirted out to the left for positive yardage it is first and goal for the wolverines and this is where denard robinson struggled last week against michigan state two of his interceptions were right in this area young man see if he cleaned it up or he's in his head thinking about it robinson hands it off and this running play will be stopped at the line of scrimmage vincent smith no place to go and there is the disadvantage of five six 180 because when one of those big interior defensive players grabs you you don't go any farther and this is where michigan likes the run pass play where it looks like they're going to run his own play and they can or they let robinson choose to throw it i would be i would suspect that type of play here second down and goal ball is fumbled they collided on the handoff and now he's gonna throw it in the ball knocked down at the line of scrimmage and that was jeremiah hunter who got up to knock the pass out of the air well i don't i don't think you can point out enough that david mulk the center being out and the backup corey having to come in now that was a good snap there was absolutely nothing wrong with that but i think this was going to be that zone run to the left and i think they were going to sneak the h back out into the flat 13th play of the drive coming up for michigan [Applause] robinson looking down touchdown well vincent smith walks out and you've got a linebacker troy johnson covering him that's exactly what you're looking for good read by the quarterback to know you've got the speedy smith out there and you've got a linebacker had to walk out brooke heisen has the extra point and in a very impressive opening drive michigan 7-0 over the hawkeyes [Applause] well the cheerleaders like it and i'll tell you 113 000 fans are those that are partisan there are some iowa folks here but not a bunch but uh very very happy as well and that was a truly impressive drive as impressive as anything we've seen all year that offensive line going against arguably the best defensive line in the country knocked him around a little bit johnson with cody ellis [Applause] has two guys to beat and finally is going to be pushed out of bounds and way up at the 44-yard line [Applause] well tonight terrell pryor and the number one ranked ohio state buckeyes face a tough road test they're going to travel to madison and camp randall from meeting with the badgers college football primetime and of course presented by hampton hotels at espn seven o'clock and also available online and on your phone i think this game tonight has a lot to do with terrell pryor's health he has a thigh injury if they were able to get that swelling out and he can add the run back in i'm not sure wisconsin is going to be able to keep up with that offense tell you what though they have had trouble with wisconsin and camp randall for a number of years they really have short drop stanzee over the middle it is caught in traffic and because of the hit incomplete pass and it was sandman a senior out of bettendorf iowa who got sandwiched between the two defensive players and jonas mouton was one of those that created the extra pressure to make the ball come loose and moutain a guy that when we were talking to greg robinson the defensive coordinator they've had some real struggles with the linebacker position they've just tried to get them to be more violent with their hands to get off blocks but he's a guy that they said has really started to figure it out stanzi over the middle ball is chipped and almost intercepted that's marvin mcnutt that he was trying to get the football too and let's check in with robert flores in new york inside the red zone driving again we are back movement at the line of scrimmage there flags down all over the place it gives us an opportunity to mention a young man who's just come into the ball game for the iowa hawkeyes and that's paul chaney jr senior out of st louis and it was in this game last year [Applause] in iowa city that he tore up his acl and has been out until last week and they're very glad to get him out he was a truck starter in high school university high school well and he also finished third in the big 10 100 meters in 2009. i'd say they're happy to have that type of speed back on the field third down and five reisner the tight end they go to him he was the motion man reisner may have five yards but that's it well stenson got a little a little shaky in the pocket he had a great pocket and he had mcnutt and johnson kulianas breaking late on post routes and the safety had chosen the middle of the field and it was open and that's ken o'keefe quarterback coaching offensive coordinator i think saying hey you got to stay with that we had a route open down the field you came down too soon back to back three and ouch impressive start for the wolverines here's the boot this is a much better kick high hanger is going to hit inside the 10 and it'll take a michigan bounce into the end zone so they'll scrimmage from the 20. we take a timeout seven to nothing michigan leagues football is presented by cars.com where confidence comes standard and in part by nissan proud partner of the heisman trophy [Music] marching band 346 strong under the direction of scott burma associate director is john pascal and we want to say a special thanks to them because yesterday they allowed us to take some of their valuable practice time so that we could get a good recording of the hill to the victors for the opening of this show we really appreciate it still running still running as robinson and he'll take it out to around the 27 and now here comes a late flag in kluge on the tackle yeah i was looking at the tackle itself what was that about came in so late didn't look like they got the face mask [Applause] after the play personal foul offense number 77 half the distance to the goal line second down well it's taylor dewan who we have been bragging on this afternoon and i will tell you that one of the things that one of the coaches did say about him is you know who said that uh all offensive linemen are passing they said he can be a really tough kid well that time it cost him and i'm sure he will have to pay for it next week in practice robinson no place to the left he's gonna take it up the right side and he'll be knocked down at around the 18-yard line jeremiah hunter making the tackle one of the things that the hawkeye coaches were talking about how tough it is to find someone [Applause] like denard robinson usually you take a running back or a receiver or something to practice because you just can't mimic this type of speed in practice unless you have yourself a dynamic player like that and that's part of the challenge and he looks like iowa it looks like they're a little shocked at a speed right now pass out in the flat got it to martell and the big tight end is going to take it back to around the original line of scrimmage you heard what the head coach said about that did you but they asked you he said who is going to be the guy who will be denard robinson on your scout team this week and he said i can tell you this we don't have one if we did he would be playing he wouldn't be on scout although sometimes you know if you have a little receiver that's very fast sometimes you'll run them down to the other side of the field just to try to mimic it for a series or two during practice first pump of the afternoon by the wolverines michigan leads it seven to nothing this is a boomer i mean a real boomer gonna be taken in at the 15-yard line by sanderman and pushed out of bounds immediately now that is what you hear when people say they just flipped the field that's exactly what they did take a timeout drive recap that was michigan's first drive they had a fourth down inside the red zone bad snap no problem two guys in white shirts in front of me no problem pick up the first down and then a wonderful [Applause] the line of scrimmage and was covered by troy johnson worth mentioning jeff tarpinian the normal middle linebacker probably not able to go today because of stingers a good matchup that robinson found on the little scat back when he got away from the line of scrimmage from the 16. big opening has five has tan still fighting his way for 14 yards is adam robinson cameron gordon coming up from his free safety position to make the tackle watch the block by the opera singer julian vandervel good piece today on him just absolutely pancakes jose helped on the nose guard martin came up and threw a shoulder into him knocked him flat on his back and that's what robinson ran off of nice block and one of the coaches mentioned him robinson he said i was watching some other film he said he just butted somebody and knocked him flying of course he weighs 300 so he can bet you a little harder than the average bear looking right over the middle at the 40-yard line that's mcnutt and that will be enough for the iowa first down how about your game plan for this for that well for iowa you have to realize that michigan is so young in the secondary freshmen and sophomores across the board make their safeties choose get the run game going get them down and then throw it right over their head and for michigan see how he handles the blitz greg robinson said we'd like to see if we can revert him back to last year when he liked to throw it to the other teams and if you're not going to get pressure with the front three bring some pressure and see what he does stanson hands it off to robinson again has five almost broke this one out big he was cutting toward the sideline and i'll tell you kovacs may have saved certainly a 30 or a 40-yard run if not a touchdown well this is what has been frustrating for michigan defensively they've got everybody in the gaps and the corners just late coming down the defensive end gets washed because at the point of attack that was well defended there was people there but they're just not filling in and realizing someone from that backside's got to close off that huge cutback line second down iowa robinson again turns the corner gonna have the first down now you talk about a reversal of fortune for a football team iowa on this drive looks like the iowa that we saw earlier this season because folks in their first six snaps today they had one yard or less on four of those plays now they're getting a little something going it helps when robinson's making people miss that time he ran through an arm tackle by jt floyd but this is this is what this offense is about and they're gonna have to rely on robinson because we mentioned the injury to jewel hampton stanzy has a man wide open safety valve right over the middle and boy what a collision and with that collision in the second effort that might be enough for the iowa first down again adam robinson robinson's one of those guys at 59205. he's sneaky because you don't really think he's fast but he is you know he doesn't look very big so you don't think he's strong but everything he everything about his game is you don't quite expect it but he finishes every time he has the ball in his hands [Applause] close to 20 yards on the carry and it's jt floyd from his cornerback position and say thanks to brad rogers number 38 who was in at fullback watch this block well they weren't sure if brett morris is going to be able to go with a bad back and this is an excellent kick out block by rogers on kovacs kovacs has to take the outside shoulder there because he has contained and there's just no linebacker there to make that play the struggle that michigan has had all year shows up on that one [Applause] here comes the late flag and the crowd's not going to like it but i think there were hands around the waist of the receiver jt floyd is going to be the man who was flagged reisner the intended receiver talking to rich rodriguez yesterday they have a bye week next week and he said it couldn't come at a better time you know health and all that other stuff but he said our secondary is so young they need a breath they just need some time to step away and reisner a guy that ricky stanzi has really started to focus on second leading receiver walks away he's a big body you know it's good coverage you just you got to get that left hand [Applause] that was close you know the reason they call it because the left hand's there if he you know as you get older you realize i don't need it there i'm in great position and that won't get called if you take that left hand away first down with the penalty the ball at the 14 and a half yard line robinson nothing doing nice job by the entire defensive front of the michigan wolverines mike martin one of the first men jt floyd coming up from his cornerback spot and this might be reisner time the game we did earlier in the year against iowa state they like reisner in play action six three 250 pounds runs well maybe pack everybody in and slip him towards the goal post and see if he can't hit him in the seam remember those safeties from michigan awfully green mcnutt is the man wide to the left at the top of your screen that was kovacs who was i mean within a breath of uh doing pick six from 95 yards away well and kovacs one of the only veterans does an excellent job in that secondary because of the blitz he's got coverage he does a great job has good body position and the ball was a little bit late by stanzing kovacs almost took at the distance it would have been a repeat of what happened last year with stanza where one got returned for a touchdown even if you're a bit of it that's one of the dangers of staring down a receiver when you've got an angle like that third down gets it out right over the middle and that is uh jackson is heading for the end zone did he get in yes touchdown iowa [Applause] really nice job by the offensive front well that takes forever watch kuliana's come right across the screen he was lining in the slot takes a while to get there excellent catch thrown a little behind him and that's a linebacker trying to chase him down and that's just not going to happen every time he's kenny demons mostly a middle linebacker had to walk out and cover the slot meyer over the extra point attempt and michael has it when you look at daryl johnson julianis on the pitch what a nice job catching the ball behind himself right at it and it took it into the end zone [Applause] so we are back in ann arbor michigan an absolutely perfect day and i mean temperature hovering around the 60 mark i mean not a cloud in the sky really really beautiful here comes meyer with a kick so we got a good one going here that we kind of expected is going to happen at the big house we are tied at seven and under a minute and a half to play in the opening quarter stepping hopkins back in the bowl game at tailback this time he used is used as a blocker and it'll be robinson tackled by hunter as he grows across the 35. i think for hunter that's now four tackles already in the first quarter well they need them with jeff tarpinion out they brought him on the trip but also they lost bruce davis another linebacker and they just they're really thin at that linebacker spot quickly back to the line of scrimmage on second down robinson gonna hold on to it and he will rush it up to the 45-yard line i have to tell you yesterday ed and i had a delightful time sitting and visiting with this young man we were hoping we could get an interview but because it was friday he just said the day before the game i i'm really not wild about it and the truth of the matter is he's not wild about going on camera but he is a delightful fella very glib and we laughed and talked for 35 minutes straight ahead with a handoff here and vincent smith maybe has a yard or two and and that's it but i i was really interested in a lot of things he wants to make a point that he is a selfless person it's not about him it's about this team as he called his family and you know that speech against michigan state caught a few people off guard because he's he's always leading by example he's not a very boisterous pass caught really a shoestring grab by hemingway and the tackle made at the 49 so michigan faces a third down and four tyner nielsen on the stop and that is the end of the first quarter so michigan on their opening drive of the afternoon took it the distance and on the third drive for iowa they tied us that's where we are hey go ahead welcome back to the espn college football well our thanks to the iowa cheerleaders and uh we wish them well and what did coach ferentz do what did he change on that last drive like daylight and dark i think it was ricky stanzi calming down i think he was a little amped up and kept coming off his reeds he kept coming off his reeds you know that third and 15. he comes down to rise near the tight end and he had a couple of posts that were both coming open and he had protection and we saw right when he went over and ken o'keefe pulled his head set off the office coordinator quarterback coach said settle down i know there's 109 000 people here but you're a senior and i think that's just it they got the quarterback and then you know what you're going to get from adam robinson and just the hard running yeah and you know the other thing is i think the question has already been answered about whether denard robinson was going to have any hangover for lack of a better term uh over that loss last week gonna go long and intercepted by iowa and that the is and he'll be stopped just across midfield and all of a sudden as i say i think that robinson is over it that is an absolutely silly pass to the throne yeah there's no reason sash lined up right here and iowa always you can just count on it's like the sun coming up iowa is always going to have two deep safeties and you just have to know that as a quarterback even if you don't see it just assume greenwood and sash are back there they have been for the last three years as starters and that was just a bad mistake by a young quarterback stanju rolls to pocket and throws this one away that was uh craig rowe who was applying to pressure and stanzi simply threw it away well and tyler sash comes up with his first interception on the season he was on a run last year and the year before where we went nine games with nine interceptions a lot of people and i were wondering hey what happened what went wrong well he's still making some plays but that one a little bit of a gift you know when we were there to do them earlier this year in iowa city what is the first thing he started talking about that they have pounded into his head take care of the football stanzi dumps it off screen good play blockers in front robinson inside the 35 yard line and it will be enough for the first down plus five good for 15 yards by the hawkeyes james ferrets kirk ferentz is sung at center here and when you run this screen to your running back it's all about the lineman getting out that time ference gets there and not a great block but because he's in good position exactly has to run around him and robinson reads it very well and now stanjee is going to call a timeout the play clock was running down quickly tied at seven we'll be right back and in the stats what do you see well not really that surprising michigan 111 yards 74 of those on the ground and a couple of times it looked like there was maybe a pass play call that bad snap looked like a pass play and became a positive run on that fourth down for bernard robinson robertson a little counter trey nice move but then they're covered up by maze and blue jt floyd leading the way [Applause] and this is where when you have a young defense that's trying to learn and your quarterback throws an interception you know you obviously never want to do that but with this defense in the way it struggled so far this year and going back into last year just really tough to put them in this type of position yes touchdown daryl johnson culianas [Applause] and you were talking about what adjustment they made the adjustment watch the receiver he's going to run a corner route and this takes forever you're talking about the adjustments that were made you've got to be patient on this the pocket is there you have to wait give credit to the iowa coaches recognizing their quarterback maybe he was a little too amped up and i believe they're going to review whether johnson coulianas actually caught this or not but uh they finally got him calmed down and this was a wonderful read let's check the feet which is what we're being told they're checking [Applause] the ball was juggled he didn't catch it clean right from the start so let's see when he has it he's got it there left foot down that's going to be confirmed as a touchdown i think i think the correct job to review this though because of that bobble yeah right before his left foot got down but uh plus the fact the replay officials are right here next to us and in that play he's going away from us so i i couldn't agree more i don't blame him for reviewing it but it certainly looks as though it will stand with the call on the field as a touchdown you know well you got to give credit to the offensive line of iowa that play took a long time to develop and that meant that reef vanderbilt ference macmillan and zuzobiks had to do their job and doing well for a quarterback on the field is confirmed touchdown and for a quarterback early in the game if you have a lot of adrenaline going you know it's kind of that that that flight thing i i got to get out of here something's going to fall down once you get calmed down and realize wait a minute no my offensive line's playing great i can wait forever for that corner route to come open meyer with the extra point attached [Applause] he's got it so iowa taking advantage of the interception 13 22 left until halftime iowa on top 14-7 [Applause] espn's college football brought to you by hyundai your view of the world looks better when you drive a car that does everything better like the hyundai genesis and chili's 20 dinner for two it's homecoming week which of course means alumni get togethers and today's entertainment was provided by the michigan glee club aren't you aren't you supposed to have a mullet come in for your homecoming game not the number 15 team in the country yeah well it certainly didn't work out that way no it didn't iowa hawkeye is leading on this homecoming saturday afternoon 14-7 and this kick is going to go nine yards deep in the end zone so the touchback recorded well with a win in california tony stewart has re-emerged as a championship contender and he has his sights set on current points leader jimmy johnson as the chase continues under the lights in charlotte the chase for the nascar sprint cup continues with the bank of america 500 in charlotte that's on adc tonight 7 30 eastern time [Applause] robinson keeps the ball turns it up at the 25 now to the 27. and broderick benz makes the tackle along with tighter sash [Applause] he'll take it to the 35. tyler sash again defensively well where it gets so difficult when you have a quarterback like this and we're starting to see it all over college football that's nothing but an iso play that you would run out of the i formation you get a big back in there he leads up and now your defense is a little more spread out because it's not a two two backs in the set pass out to gallon blocker in front trying to break the tackle and boy that is a play where you can get one of those mighty mites out there he's five eight one eighty and can literally fly you're blocking on the play because it's thrown behind the line of scrimmage and they almost got him free hunter on the stop and that's a play that michigan loves to run where their offensive line comes off it looks like a run and then they decide to throw it what about draw pretty good collision that's jeremiah hunter he really has had a good ball game we're going to check six tackles officially for jeremiah hunter here come you know the tough part about michigan is they have different tempos all of the plays come in from the sideline including audibles and uh so hard for a defense you just never really know when they're gonna snap it robinson nothing outside gonna bring it back toward the middle and there's very little there it's gonna be third down and four were you surprised at what coach talked about yesterday when he said there are spread offenses and there are spread offenses but it depends on what you do with your quarterback which is making us very different well i think a lot of people think rich rodriguez is a run quarterback guy but remember when he was at tulane with sean king they threw it 40 or 50 times a game he says it's all about what that guy can do that's catching with every snap pass caught at the 27 yard line and that's koger the tight end well and adrian claiborne is running off the field i don't think he's hurt but i think this offense is starting to wear down the defensive line for iowa a little bit because of their tempo and you have to chase this guy so much claiborne looks spent [Applause] daniel into the ball game replacing him and robinson will tough out three yards maybe four back into the boundary mike daniels defensively the amount of stress that is put on your defense when you have a quarterback that can run it's no surprise how many good running quarterbacks they are now in college football a couple people start doing it and you start to realize it just wears you out you've got so much offense to defend and you've got to chase this guy around you better be in shape [Applause] quick [Applause] lucky for iowa someone else came up from the secondary to make the hit because i'll tell you now he can scoot in a hurry well i think the turf may have made the tackle there is the guy who will get credit for finally corralling him i'm not sure gallon scores on that but he sure picks up more than he did and puts him at third and one ninth play of the drive coming [Applause] he's close and from where the linesman is coming in he will have it going to be first and 10 at the 15-yard line as tiger nielsen makes the tackle for iowa the the one thing when they got bernard robinson here that they started working on immediately he had a track background we started working with him in the weight room he's put on about 10 pounds since he got here gotten in there and you can tell what a tough runner he is between the tackles for 192 pounds somebody moved before the ball was snapped false start offense number 77 five yard penalty remains first [Applause] and now it's time for the aflac trivia question and that is michigan is the sixth oldest football program in the ncaa which school is the oldest and how many seasons have they played we will have that answer coming up for you in just a bit now this sweep is not going to go anywhere so a five-yard penalty and then a loss on the sweep and it's going to be second down and 16 as broderick bins did a nice job of keeping contained and getting outside to make the stop and michigan has been so good as claiborne comes back into the game after getting a little breather but michigan has been so good in the red zone this year until last week against michigan state i think you'll start to learn a lot about this young quarterback in these instances against a defense like this looking over the middle the ball is tipped at the last minute that is a tremendous defensive play tipping it was troy johnson troy used to be one of the outside linebackers and with the injury that ed was talking about earlier troy has had to move to the middle because he already had the ability of playing all three spots and that's exactly you saw there the exact thing that robinson had a problem with last week he starts to look a little bit like young quarterbacks but he starts patting that ball and he told us i've got to be less patient if anything i don't think he trusted his reid there 12th play of the drive got one over the middle and a flag is down at the line of scrimmage now the iowa coaches are signaling that he did not catch the football and that's daryl stoneham who he was uh throwing to daryl and stoneham problem you have if he didn't catch it and you can decline this penalty the problem is how bad michigan has been illegal formation five men in the backfield penalty is declined fourth down so now at 21 21-yard line you're at uh 38-yard field goal the longest this year is 34 by seth brookheisen so the didn't coach tell us yesterday 45 is where he trusted him up to yeah that was end of half end of game and he's going to run them out but this has been an adventure they had one blocked last week against michigan state in iowa with that good defensive front i'm sure they're gonna have four or five hands up around eight or nine ten feet to try to get this one seth brookhausen redshirt freshman out of holland michigan officially for the near hash mark a 38-yard attempt ball picked up by iowa and everybody from michigan stopped and now still on his feet that's tyler and he takes it across midfield what a heavy move on his part everybody ran away from it because normally there are signals that are caused to stay away from it and when he saw nobody from michigan moving he picked it up yeah it's just like a kick clay is a man who got it i believe boy it was clayburn and he absolutely blew up that side of the offensive line and usually let this ball die but sash and you can see all the michigan players you know that's one drill you do in practice over and over and over again when you are a p-a-t field goal and rich rodriguez was trying to call a time-out and didn't get it but you have to go down and cover that when it's blocked big mistake by michigan [Applause] well it was actually broderick benz going up against a defensive tackle william campbell you try to bring big bodies in but campbell's pads get so high ben's runs in there a little bit of a low kick but then they compound the mistake look at all of the guys from michigan standing watching one of the drills you do is a block field goal drill you hear it get blocked you get down and cover totally fell asleep robinson you can hear the collision at the 45 and he takes it to the 44. now the clock runs with eight minutes and 20 seconds left the average field position has been very much in favor of uh iowa at their own 40 is where they have started michigan at their own 23. this right here a second mistake that michigan has made and we'll see if it cost him another touchdown the last one was an interception that's mcnutt on the far sideline looking into a really tough son and he made the catch well this is what greg robinson wanted to see is how stanzy would stand in there against an all-out blitz that time he had two guys coming off of the right side right in his face he stood in there as long as he could knowing that mcnutt was going to break off his route he knew the cornerback was there good job by mcnutt just settling down and a good read by the quarterback seeing that cornerback blitz kovac saved a very large play by grabbing the jersey of the receiver magnet stanzi so time now to answer our aflac trivia question michigan is the sixth oldest football program in the ncaa what school is the oldest and how many seasons have they played well it's actually rutgers and princeton they're tied at 141 and of course they met in the first intercollegiate football game on november the 6th 1869 and rutgers won the game six to four and the film from that game believe it or not it was filmed lives in the nfl films library and it was shot by thomas edison is that amazing and then also you got to explain the scoring why it was six to four swing the pass out of the backfield and that was incomplete thrown a little bit in front of adam robinson well and now if you're iowa they're not great in the kicking game either in field goal kicking two for three on the season their best kicker daniel murray is out of the quad but i think you've got a big screen or maybe a draw or something you're not quite in field goal comfort range for uh iowa so six seven eight yards and if you break a tackle pick up the first down but i think you gotta think about field goal range here inside the 25. so timeout has been called and we'll take it with a 14-7 iowa leads third down the line to make is the michigan 18-yard line they keep it on the ground and the running play is going to be close to it is going to pick up the first down adam robinson the man they call a.d boy they pulled the tight end reisner back and used him as like a wham blocker he's a really special player i mean this is a guy in robinson who was a strong safety last year and they had to move him over when jule hampton got hurt before the season started boy what a block yeah i mean he and he got stopped two yards before the first down but kept fighting so the sticks move the new line of scrimmage the 17. robinson again and he falls forward to the 12. greg banks a senior out of denver defensive tackle makes the stop well there is an article on bernard robinson in the nba magazine a pre preview issue of esp and the magazine on the newsstands this wednesday and bruce feldman was the author of that article i spent a couple hours chatting with him about robinson he shared some really good insight into his training and how hard he's worked in the weight room [Applause] adam robinson again pushing the pile and they're going to stay down at the 10 and a half yard line ryan van bergen senior from whitehall michigan making the tackle these are guys that uh they've been working so hard you know rich rodriguez talks about a hard edge we're working so hard to get our defense to have that hard edge and we need guys like van bergen to continue to improve in the weight room and all the strength training that they do is the truth of the matter we need some guys to step up and be tougher two tight ends the pocket has rolled and the pass is caught at the four yard line by johnson julianas and that is enough for the iowa first down and now we're looking up at the clock you have to think that at least two of these next plays if they don't get it in will be on the ground ferris just want to give michigan the football quickly he's looking at the clock thinking that exact same thing let's melt this thing down i don't want to see number 16 any more than i have to today brad rogers number 38 in the game and full back lining up in front of adam robinson adam will get it goes right side nothing there turns it back to the left and he walks into the end zone what a wonderful job by robinson on this cutback watch as he goes to the right and it's a pull by the guard vanderveld and watch it freeze right there the hole is supposed to be outside but because everybody's blocked up he cuts back and it's just you know you're going to have a hard time finding a better coached offensive front even if they don't get movement they're on their guys square so the back has a two-way go meyer with the extra point attempt and michael is perfect again and now with four minutes and 31 seconds left until halftime our new score is iowa 21 and michigan seven and it's been a couple of costly errors by the michigan wolverines that have really cost them dearly and it's given iowa two touchdowns and you go back to last year's game where iowa won in iowa city 30 to 28 michigan had a chance late take 48 was knocked out of the game with concussion bernard robinson came up they had five turnovers in that game now they've got bernard robinson through that deep interception to sash then a block field goal second week in a row that michigan has had a field goal block and instead of going down and covering the kick remember it's a scrimmage kick it's like a pun it's like anything else you've got to go down and cover it instead all the big bodies are standing around licking their wounds and sash again picks it up and puts it over midfield you could see sash looking up and seeing that nobody from michigan was moving and then also you could see the head coach on the sideline rich rodriguez was screaming go touch the ball go get the ball this is gallon from the goal line flag is down and boy gallop took quite a lick at the 25. yeah they're going to get brandon aaron a reserve linebacker for a block in the back [Applause] during the return illegal block in the back returning team number 58 half the distance to the goal line let's take a look now with our pacific life game summary ed well michigan jumped out to a 7-0 lead touchdown pass from bernard robinson to vincent smith but since then it's been all iowa robinson with a great cutback and 21-7 to score after 21 unanswered helped by a couple of errors by the wolverines so again that starting field position for the wolverines is not good and inside their own 10-yard line and this running play i don't think went for anything at all kluge the man down at the bottom of the stack a big defensive tackle for the iowa hawkeyes and now's not the time to get conservative and i don't think that that's really in rich rodriguez's blood but you've got the three-time outs you know kluge is another guy that doesn't get the credit that he probably should but uh pure and simple what his head coach said he's really hard to get off his feet he's a tough player but a couple of boos coming in very conservative play calls you can be conservative with robinson but those are two straight handoffs instead of putting it into the hands of the most dynamic player maybe in the country kelvin grady comes in at wide receiver number 19 for the wolverines third down and robinson gets it to the nearside line and the ball was trapped it's incomplete that's stoneham and it is going to be oh they're going to say he caught it i beg your pardon they say he caught the football at the 19-yard line well there's the whistle and that's what i thought they're going to review this yeah it sure looked like a trap didn't it well it did but again well we look at it a couple of times here give you my that's that's a trap yeah it did hit the field it was close [Music] excuse me stoneham did a nice job of getting both arms underneath of it but that the body the tip of the ball did look like it hit the uh the turf but you got to look at it this way if they say they don't have anything definitive to prove that if they don't think that shot is definitive enough then the play will stand the miscues by michigan today nard robinson with an interception a blocked field goal returning to 37 yards by iowa and penalties six for 46 yards and one of those was a holding call that actually was a personal foul that moved the ball way back and they did not pick up a first down iowa got it in good field ruling on the field stands it was a catch and he didn't say it was confirmed he said it was stands because from that video you couldn't quite tell if the ball touched the ground or not if you can't tell you can't overturn the calling that's the point we were making that's uh and that's the right way to do it it's got to be absolutely indisputable just no argument whatsoever [Applause] here's robinson running and he'll go for about six yards it's the amazing thing about robinson it looked like he was kind of staggering through the hole but uh he staggered for six yards before he went down and you've got to start being cognizant of that clock you've got all three timeouts you're under three minutes a young quarterback so make sure you're reminding him from the sideline hey have some urgency [Applause] robertson turns it up and he almost got loose wow he has such a quick burst so it's first down at the 35 and hunter makes the stop and that's eight tackles for jeremiah hunter folks in the very first half of play and and mark huge is in it left tackle for taylor lawn and claiborne's having a nice time against town [Applause] junior hemingway makes the catch did not get out of bounds so the clock will run at 219 and now 2 18. second down and two one of the things that iowa has done today that michigan state did last week they have denied robinson the big home run play and he's had to take it the long field his lack of experience is showing off on him from time to time running for his life here and he's going to have the first down as he'll be tackled just short of the 50-yard line ballard defensively for iowa it's like a water bug isn't he well what's amazing is he gains so much yardage then it looks like he does on every play you think oh that was a yard two oh no that was five every single step he takes it's just a huge game play action and the ball thrown low and all stoneham could do is just get down and protect it and make the catch in a timeout called immediately by michigan and let's go to robert flores in new york city robert well i have to admit this nolan ryan is a long time friend and i i was pulling for the rangers last night and i went to bed with a five to nothing lead only to wake up this morning and see that the yankees had done a typical yankee come from behind win in a playoff game dare to be congratulated that was a heck of a job [Applause] pumped at once and now the ball is thrown high and it goes back to the point that you made earlier and you asked him about it yesterday when he pumps the ball when he pats it i don't know what happens but then he gets a little anxious when he throws it you know it happens with young quarterbacks a lot if they don't let it go on their first read then they start processing it too much it goes through their brain and it gets away from just being in the flow of the play and it's something he'll get better at but he certainly struggles when he pulls it [Applause] well he down run now and he's going to run for his life and be tackled at the 45-yard line it's now going to be fourth down roderick bins on the stop well i think michigan needs to get a timeout here i think why not go for it here why not the way your team is playing but you're just letting that clock go the way he's letting it go i don't think he's going to go for it i think they're probably going to let it run down punt it away if i'm iowa iowa should take that last time out [Applause] you know maybe they're thinking batfield position would probably just take a knee anyway but the clock continues to run it is down to five down to four and now down to three and you can see rich rodriguez turns to the official and says let's call that timeout and rich rodriguez is hot offensively those last couple of plays he had something he wanted and he's getting on his quarterback a little bit because he didn't see it and he did the same thing he padded that ball and padded it and we talked to robinson and he said i've got to start trusting myself more than i did against michigan state those last two plays he didn't trust himself he was thinking too much you know the other thing that he could have done he also could have with some urgency run out of bounds so they wouldn't have to use you know the timeout well it is abc's new drama detroit one eight seven an all-new episode airs tuesday at ten nine o'clock central on abc it's about doing what's right when everything is going wrong well and and i had said maybe go for it on fourth down i'm backing off of that statement i think this is the right decision by rich rodriguez well comes up goes under center now they're going to try to draw him outside and that's not going to work either iowa is anchored in there well it's worth a try and i know people are booing right now but the truth is you're only down 14 you have not played well at all in the first half you've had two gigantic mistakes a bunch of penalties and you're only down 14. and i understand the frustration i do but i back off of what i said i think this is the right decision punted away pin iowa deep with only one timeout and say 35 seconds or so and let's get in and make some adjustments and come out and clean this up in the second half now you've got a young punter in hagrid the hope is he can pin it down and get it out of bounds inside the 10-yard line don't kick this right down in the middle of the field it might get into the end zone and iowa does not even have anybody back deep here's the kick very high to the far sideline michigan runs for it and they touch it down at the one-yard line so strategically the right decision and i know people were a little upset but what was i think more upsetting for rich rodriguez was they had plays called they like i think you were right if it's not there you just got to go you you've got to go you you've got too much speed to stand back in that pocket pat that ball pat that ball just pull it and go and if you know the clock is running or you know then you've got to know you're down the distance too third and six or seven you've got to know what you need to pick up go get it stanzi with the quarterback sneak and the iowa football team is heading toward the tunnel and the head coach running along saying okay guys let's go let's head on up the tunnel here and go in there and get some rest and regroup and when we come back it will be michigan who will receive the second half kickoff well that that's great you get to go in and make a couple adjustments and see come out can't make it 21-14 21-7 [Music] [Applause] [Music] 21-7 the halftime score the iowa hawkeyes on top michigan did not receive the ball they did not win the toss in the first half they'll get it here in the second what did rich rodriguez tell them at halftime since they get the ball well the best news is these are all our mistakes take nothing away from what iowa has done but denard you can't throw the ball up deep with those safeties we know that they're too good you've got to cover on kicks be it a punt be it a kickoff they didn't do it on the block field goal and and we're only down 14 and we get the ball back guys we're we're okay and i i bet you he went back to last year's game five turnovers in that ball game and they still had a chance to win it so just kind of get out of your own way would you make dinard run the ball yeah i think he's got to get him out of his head he's making a little bit too much if it's there pull it down and go three yards deep in the end zone it's going to be returned [Applause] and that's gallon and he'll make it out to the 23. well let's take a look at our first half stats brought to you by pacific life you know you look at the total yardage for michigan 223 and this is against one of the best defenses in the country that gives up under 300 yards per game so they've moved the ball you got the one turnover which was the deep interception and then of course the block field goal that was returned beyond midfield by tyler sash but you know they've been able to move the ball this running play with michael shaw first carry i think for him and he gets nothing the defensive leaders lack of depth now at linebacker for iowa with tarpinion not able to go today because of stingers they've already lost bruce davis so it's all on hunter to i guess make every tackle from that linebacker spot quick out pass caught immediately and tackled immediately that's roy roundtree well and we should mention that iowa is without their defensive coordinator norm parker norm back home resting battling diabetes but he's got to be awfully happy with the way some of these guys at moon nielsen really sniffed out that wide receiver screen well [Applause] pass right over the middle got it complete hit a running target junior hemingway [Applause] you know we not only want to say hi to coach parker you look at that 45-year coaching career 25 years as a defensive coordinator and you see the notable stops that he's made michigan state to illinois minnesota and of course at iowa and there are a lot of people coach that are sending along a message to you it's not just from us that are interested in your well-being and hope that things are coming along just fine and we're thinking about you [Applause] now this is not a real good kick although he's going to take a michigan bounce now taking more of a michigan bounce and on a no return and down to the 29-yard line it uh aesthetically was not great but it turned into a pretty good effort here comes ricky stanzi you know this guy took a lot of heat last year because of those interceptions but uh he you know we talked to ken o'keefe when we were there for iowa state and he said you know this program is built on longevity we have 29 seniors which means your seniors have to play at a peak level and they're getting that out of this quarterback this season no robinson tell you what jt floyd has done a nice job coming off the corner not only containing but coming up and making tackle on a guy who is a lot larger than he is jt is six feet 183 but he has come up and butted adam robinson uh on a number of occasions and greg robinson the defensive coordinator is going to have to continue to keep those corners coming off the edges because you know what iowa's going to try to do in the second half there's going to be no mystery that this is going to be the adam robinson show try to shorten this game a little bit stanzi back to throw and he hits it complete to sandman and colin goes up the sideline but no he's not going to have the first down gonna miss it by a couple james rogers forced him out of bounds kirk background as a offensive line coach of course was the offensive line coach for hayden frye for a number of years went on to the nfl and uh this team is built in the head coach's image as they often are good balanced offense with a tough offensive line it's been his mark for 12 years iowa with a lot of people at the line of scrimmage in michigan i should say and they make it work and that's number 32 jordan kovacs who comes through gets penetration and makes the tackle and now it's fourth down and ryan donahue will come on to do the kicking and stanzi's mad at himself right now and he should be audible yeah he's got to get out of that there was nobody to block kovacs on that side of the line and you know if he's coming he's going to have the speed you have a delayed draw if anything switched to a faster developing run play so that free man can't get there [Applause] not a huge kick good high coverage kick and just as the ball is caught the hit is made and callum gets flipped backwards very quickly by sean prater 51 yards in the kick [Music] so we're back and look at the totals on bernard robinson this season in the individual games uh 301 last week the smallest no not the smallest uh bowling green was the shortest one and it has got 189 today and uh i think it's time for him to start keeping the ball in that zone read he's been handing it off a lot he's got to start keeping it looking as though he wants to throw now he's going to turn it up and just that quickly that's the kind of point that we've been making all afternoon long just that quickly he's got 12 yards on the play yep and he i think hurt his right yeah he took a can't tell if it's his arm or he got hit in the midsection tyler nielsen is the man who made the tackle [Applause] tate forcier beginning to loosen up down on the sideline number five the sophomore out of san diego california six one 192 pounds and here comes the lick right here and you can see the head gear right arm yeah tyler nielsen his helmet hit right on that elbow of denard robinson actually kind of high up on the arm wasn't it yeah yeah which uh could obviously could affect his uh his throwing motion you know and we were talking about the article coming out this week on espn the magazine by bruce feldman and that's the exact point of the article is with the proliferation of running quarterbacks and forcier let's not forget he's a good runner as well they don't change a thing when he has to come in but the question that uh bruce feldman posed to rich rodriguez and chip kelly chris alt out at nevada is how do you handle this what do you do and uh that's the risky run when you put the ball in the quarterback's hands 20 30 times in traffic boy listen to this ovation wow he may not have been a starter a very long time but i'm telling you he uh they're drinking the kool-aid i can promise you that they really really like this kid well it helps when he's a nice guy and he and that he certainly is yeah we found that out yesterday that was a fun 35 minutes or a visit with him throws the ball complete that's koga and kroger will take it to the 35-yard line just a couple short of the first down and here's a closer look at tate foursegate well we saw that 189 yards against uh bowling green forcier came in and set a michigan record for completions for a quarterback with more than 10 attempts in a game this is shaw shaw will have the first down takes it to the 40-yard line [Music] and you look at this as an opportunity you never want a teammate to get hurt but your job now well your job during the week was to prepare like you're the starter no the game plan inside and out and now just go execute let me ask you this after this play of course he's going to run it puts the ball down dives forward to the 45 it'll be second down to five now if you're calvin mcgee if you are the offensive coordinator how much do you change your offensive game plan at mid stream because of change in the quarter well that's what's nice about these two young men is they are very similar of course last year they did go back and forth a little bit between forcier the starter in every game but bernard robinson obviously got a lot of time you don't have to change it a ton 4c not quite as fast but he certainly has plenty of speed [Applause] a high pass from center fourchief did a great job of bringing it down and in shaw just because of that high pass it took just an extra half beat if not a beat out of the play and the backside pursuit was excellent well and remember we lost david michigan lost david mulk earlier in the game so rocco corey is the backup center and we saw a couple of snaps in that first half float high on him as well i think what the head coach just said though take it straight up field stop running east and west back there [Applause] little stop route at the 50-yard line and caught by junior hemingway and boy boy this is close this is really close michigan right back to the line of scrimmage and it is fourth down yeah i i think you have to go here you're just at that stage in the game you came out you went three and out and missed a good call i just quarterback sneak don't get foolish [Applause] yes play is under further review i i you know it's funny when the line judge came out to spot that i thought that the uh play was enough for the first down well and i think the official on the far side did come in directly on the 50-yard line and the gentleman on this side is the one that said it was short see where stoneham catches this and comes down you know i i don't think that they're going to overturn this i think they'll keep it as fourth down because as he was catching the ball excuse me junior hemingway as he was catching the ball he was coming that looked like the right spot to me but michigan came out in an eye formation which is obviously not very normal for them and here's the other thing you got tate forcier but he is working with the backup center who he works with all week so shouldn't have a problem with quarterback center exchange stephen hopkins the big true freshman out of doubletree texas six feet two thumb 230 pounds at tailback he gets the ball and he breaks it open wow not only does he have power he's showing right there he has mobility and speed that is a gain of 15 yards by the young freshman out of doubletree texas patter sash defensively man i really like this left guard steven schilling look at the push that he gets at the point of attack on karl klug klug and all big ten type performer but schilling plays with such great pad level blitz coming off the corner poor she ate throws and that was the area that had been vacated the safety came over to help out on stone but the pass was off the mark brett greenwood came over as the blitz was coming off that side 21-7 iowa leads just about the midway point of the third quarter hopkins back in the ball game he swings out to his right and boy he was open for a long time and now he's covered up and the ball thrown and a little too high and incomplete that's stoneham [Applause] you know we have not seen of course we mentioned that norm parker the defense coordinator not here phil parker and the other members of the defense staff calling him we have not seen as clayburn comes off much if any at all blitzing by iowa now with 4c in the game third and long let's see if this is the first time iowa may dial up some pressure third down to 10. [Applause] right over the middle got it complete to stonehim and the spin trying to get away didn't work he's going to be a yard and a half short okay so now you know michigan's going to go for it here we saw the big back come in stefan hopkins i say run him back out and think about giving forcier a shot here you're bringing the big body in kelvin cover to go in the backfield i'd be afraid if iowa iowa have a play-action pass play action that's what he's looking for and the ball is delivered at the 15-yard line and that is roundtree [Applause] just an excellent call by rich rodriguez and calvin mcgee as offensive coordinator when you when you watch this team on offense when they get it going they do so many different things out of the same formation that's what makes you so confused they have so many different plays that look the same when they line up calvin mcgee the offensive coordinator upstairs calling to plays and straight ahead boy vincent smith the ball came loose and iowa has recovered is the man who made the hit who slashed him down and the ball came loose [Applause] michigan has just done everything to lose this ball game today [Applause] that ball just wasn't put away klug comes in just wrapping up he didn't even rake at the ball and smith there's just no way that a form tackle should knock that ball out of your hand you know what though let me say this about the little guy kluge is 270 pounds and i think when he grabbed him he couldn't secure the ball quite frankly and that's the reason it came out i think he was trying to and i think that's why we've seen a little more of stefan hopkins the true freshman for michigan rich rodriguez wants a guy in there with some size to run between the tackles and they just don't have that right now so let's take a break 21-7 iowa ball [Music] espn's college football brought to you by the new 2011 lexus is wheeled precision and lee getting comfortable never looks so good 2007 michigan basketball player brent pettway shaved the wings into his head this design made its way into the helmets of michigan in 1938 and since then has been adopted by seven other sports programs here on campus pettway cut it into his hair [Applause] robertson the ball carrier and a gain of three floyd again with a tackle for michigan how frustrating we had a camera on rich rodriguez while we were in break there you could just see it on his face we got something going our quarterback got hurt forcier came in made a couple of nice throws we picked up two fourth downs dialed up a great play on the second fourth down and then we put it right on the grass and it's been a tough afternoon so far for the wolverines [Applause] robinson really got tripped up jonas mouton got a hand on it the good news for rich rodriguez with all of the bad things that have happened bernard robinson interception he's out with an injury his right arm got hit by a helmet but field goal was returned the fumble lost you're only down 14. if you can get a stop here who knows what can happen you have to feel good about the score with how bad things have looked for you throughout the day third down line to make the 24. stanzi gonna go long far sideline and that is johnson kulianis couldn't get up there too and cameron gordon to whip the cover and it'll be putting time for the iowa hawkeyes well ricky stanzy is going to look at this on film and be very upset because coolianus johnson culianas was wide open and he let that ball hang up in there and if he would have thrown a flatter ball gotten the ball there quicker i think that coulee johnson kuleana is going to pull that down if he had he'd had a record-setting third touchdown on the afternoon already has two donahue with the kick and this one's not going to turn over [Applause] [Music] so when we come back we're going to see number 16 again denard robinson has been throwing on the sideline he'll be back at the helm for the wolverines [Music] so we're back and we stand corrected at tate forcier came back out on the field dinard robinson strapped his head gear on but the head coach said 4ca you're going to take it for the second straight series pass looking incomplete a little bit high for hemingway couldn't hold on more dangerous with that uh safety coming along well and once the decision was made that denard robinson was the starter of course forcier then starts working with the second unit he's working with the second unit receivers second unit offensive line sometimes your timing will be a little bit off steppen hopkins number 33 at the ball game at tealback and he gets the handoff and the big guy pushes the pile up the middle good for five yards and troy johnson down at the bottom to secure him now this is a play we saw remember that cross buck action where the hvac comes and blocks the backside end you set that up later and they had a touchdown last week against michigan state now third and medium they're not going to run that play but seems like something maybe calvin mcgee is setting up to bring back later in this ball game it crossed those backs a lot particularly in the red zone that's micah hyde who comes and now here comes a very late flag onto the field karl klug number 95 you could see him chasing and putting a lot of intimidating pressure on the quarterback tate forcier well that whole left side of the line they ran a stunt on that side between klug and claiborne and taylor law and the left tackle that we like so much has been out of the game replaced by mark hugie and he really struggled on that play during the return personal foul returning team number 28 15 yards from the spot of the foul first down sean frater is the man who was flagged watch the cross stunt by the defensive lineman but forcier has just got to get this thrown the other way good good penetration by claiborne and then klug loses contain but you just have to throw this ball away there's three white jerseys in the area that you're throwing that ball and another big mistake by michigan second turnover of the quarter against michigan they had one turnover in the first half [Applause] stanza deep over the middle got a man and that is mcnutt mcnutt stumbles his way out of bounds inside the 30 at the 29 pushed out by gordon well this is something that ken o'keefe loves to dial up it's three vertical routes here then you're going to get a release here and you get mcnutt filling the middle and with only one safety it's just too much pressure on a young secondary good clear out by the tight end reisner opens it up wide for mcnutt nice hall nice pass too good protection but he just kind of he was so open he took his time and put it right on the spot stanzi's safety valve out of the backfield is brad rogers and he gets to carry the ball down to the 19. tonight terrell pryor and the new number one ranked ohio state buckeyes face a tough road test when they travel to madison and a meeting with the badgers of wisconsin college football prime time presented by hampton hotels on espn that's at seven o'clock eastern and also available online and on your phone now the big ten's got a long way to go and of course iowa with the i think the best schedule in the conference home against wisconsin michigan state and ohio state down the stretch now this is robinson a little stutter step and took it back inside for three and a half or four kenny dimmons making the tackle i have said all along and regardless of who won what i think ohio state is going to have a very difficult time defeating these iowa hawkeyes in iowa city well the weather's going to be cold so it's going to come down to exactly the way this team is built that's the offensive line play good running game plus effect i love the fans here i think that is a really tough venue to play in [Applause] play clock is down to three stanzee lobs it right over the middle and he has it complete this time to keenan davis and the sophomore from cedar rapids gonna be short of the first down it'll be third down they need to take it down to the eight to move the james floyd again we've got to check on his total floyd's got to be getting up there as far as total tackles well you certainly don't want a cornerback leading you in tackles but uh that seems to be the case today for michigan as a matter of fact it's been the case all year where secondary has had to kind of clean up some messes rogers at fullback to block for robinson they come to the left gets his block turns it outside at the five and he will walk into the end zone touchdown and brad rogers the man we were just talking about put an asterisk by his name for an outstanding block paving the way for adam robinson this works because the blitz of kovac gets knocked out by rogers the fullback kovacs comes in as hard as he can but rogers does an excellent job but coaches always tell you when a guy's glitching you've got to meet his force with your force and rogers does a nice job filling in for brett morris who was unable to go today with a stiff pack michael meyer to attempt the extra point 150 left in the third quarter extra point attempt is up and it is good so the iowa hawkeyes proving that they can be very opportunistic and also very good and there's the fullback walking over and getting a little fist bump as he should let's take a look at today's good hands play brought to you by allstate well johnson coulianos has to catch the ball behind him and does a wonderful job finishing and then he runs a corner out and he has to catch the ball twice i played with ricky prohl in the nfl great player out of wake forest and he used to say all the time when you have to catch the ball twice it only goes in the books as one catch so just catch it the first time luckily for john cooley honest though on that second catch on that touchdown he was able to get that left foot down you know what i'm always reminded also of a saying that kurt farance has and he gives to his ball club constantly and that is if you take a profit you're going to stay in business he'll probably stay in business a long time and that's the way his football team plays gallery just going to make the 15-yard line wow man man cal is not sure if they want to be good or bad this year is uh that is what you take away from that they blew out ucla last week and early year got blown out by nevada so they're not quite sure who they want to be ball start offense number 52 five yard penalty the down remains first stephen schilling as uh the man who was flagged [Applause] and standing on the sideline and in case you went away for a time and came back and are asking why bernard robinson is not playing he he took a shot on a tackle on his passing arm up just in the bicep area and he came to the sideline this is the third straight series that he has not been in the ball game important to mention we did see him throwing he was standing over with the coaches when they went out for the second series after he got hurt looking like he's able to play hasn't really been tended to so you assume just a bruise and uh should be okay throws this one complete and that's hemingway two pass catches in a row for him micah hyde is out there defensively you know micah haida at the interception on the last play his brother marcus is a safety at michigan state and he said i didn't even have to watch the game last week my mother was texting me so often with what marcus was doing i knew every play of the game via text [Music] under one minute to play third quarter got a crossing route and wide open as vincent smith vincent scored a touchdown back in the first half the only one that has been scored by the wolverines and forcier seems to be in a little bit of a rhythm and getting close to the fourth quarter down 21 i would think get down and get a score and then you've got to start thinking about going a little faster on defense and maybe at some point something to switch the possessions maybe an onside kick taylor dewon back at the ball game at the left tackle and that's where they run right behind him benson smith tackled by troy johnson along with troy johnson you know to show you how opportunistic that iowa has been totally hard it's 341 michigan 266 iowa but some things have happened that it's nobody's fault but michigan's well you know you hear coaches the reason it's a cliche when they talk about turnovers is because it's true yeah it really is stoner makes the catch and four seconds showing on the clock we are not to the fourth quarter as yet the now then from the ready and the whistle has blown in that is the end of the third quarter 28-7 iowa on top [Music] michigan cheerleaders past and present and uh some of them he gets up and he says hey i'm fine i'm fine now i won't get out of bed until a week from today but i'm fine uh we're gonna get back to the play and then uh a couple of remarks from uh from mr ed here and we talked about the numbers and the fact that michigan is leading on the stat board but the mistakes that they have made a penalty two fumbles in this quarter alone and it's been the difference in the ball game and let's not forget a block field goal that then was returned because they didn't cover that was a 10-point swing so instead of getting the three on the field goal iowa goes down and gets a touchdown out of it it's just it's been a bunch of errors for michigan today this pass just a little too far in front of the intended receiver roundtree and here are those numbers we were talking about and you heard me mention just before the beginning of the fourth quarter iowa doing what a good football team does and that is being opportunistic if something is given to you then you take advantage well and you're going to give up yards to an offense like this and of course bernard robinson out with an apparent arm injury but they bring in tate forcier who was their starter last year and a very good athlete you're going to give it to yards but you have to make take advantage when they throw the ball in your direction and they have heavy pressure on him and the ball is thrown complete i'll tell you that's a good catch and run geron stokes continuing to spin and he would have been stopped a year a yard short but he spun by the defender and picked up the first down and now that you're into the fourth quarter if i'm michigan i want to start putting my foot on the gas for play calling let's get these in let's get these called and let forcier sling it around a little bit see if we can't get back in this thing [Music] quick look in passes caught that's a tough one stone him on the catch and i'll tell you it takes a lot of fortitude to make that catch right there you've got the safety coming in front of you you got the cornerback behind you and he grabs it wow nice route ball thrown just a touch high in the safety sash came over and that was just bad positioning by tyler this time they keep it on the ground and it's vincent smith benson smith good second effort good hustle play taking it to the 11 yard line jeremiah hunter with still another tackle this is the 11th play in the drive and it all started way back at the 15-yard line and all i can say about michigan right now is what is helping them out are good hustle [Applause] plays [Applause] [Music] yeah they're going to get micah they set that up perfectly [Applause] they faked her out to the inside and then stonehenge broke out to run the fade mica hyde got himself caught and actually a heads-up play by high because stoneham was going to run right by him and that would have been an easy touchdown you'd rather have the penalty than the touchdown every time holding defense number 18. half the distance from the previous spot automatic first down the head coach jotting down notes stoneham did a nice job faking like he was going to run the slant and he went to cross the face of high knight had no choice an eye on number 33 stefan hopkins the 230 pound freshman and they give it to him and he is going to be stopped at around the 2 yard line weaving his way troy johnson defensively and here they're going fast forecast trying to get them back they've got the personnel they want watch the crossbuck with the tight end in the flat straight back again to the big freshman and hopkins [Music] [Applause] now just a missed tackle in there by troy johnson chilling with a good block on that play give him credit and brooke heisen gets the [Applause] left in our ball game it is 28-14 iowa [Music] [Applause] and we are back as you see some happy michigan cheerleaders and uh why not they have just cut the lead in half to 28-14 prepares to kick it off this one's going to go out of bounds and boy i'll tell you the penalty that you get for doing this now it is huge well two elite running backs lead their teams on espn monday night football chris johnson of the titans as they take on jacksonville led by maurice jones drew espn monday night football at 8 30 eastern time coverage begins at 7 eastern with monday night countdown served by applebee's well i think michigan needs to get a little risky here the one thing that iowa has is a veteran quarterback playing at a peak but i think you just got to risk it stack the line of scrimmage you're greg robinson bring some pressure off the corner you've got to stop them or this game or that clock's just going to continue to melt with their run game cut back brad herman was in motion to tie it in and the running play is going to go for very big yardage jt floyd and now a late flag comes in gonna be 20 yards and if there's 15 added on it then i'm afraid you just have to put that in that mistake category which is growing by leaps and bounds for the wolverines well this this defense has just struggled all year foul face mask defense number 12. 15 yards automatically watch all of the flow and they've got it gap but the problem is they just they don't close off the backside and you know it's so difficult to do and and that's the backside linebacker jonas mouton and you know we were talking to greg robinson about his linebacker he said mouton he's a very good linebacker but he occasionally he doesn't play slow enough and that's exactly what he's talking about that backside linebacker almost has to just stop and that's his gap instead he gets stacked over a defensive tackle and that's exactly where robinson takes it eisner the tight end in motion and adam robinson is going to go for very short yardage maybe one you know this is a time where mouton shows why greg robinson thinks he's can be a very good linebacker that time they run right at him he's able to take on the block and make the tackle but it's when the play is away and a lot of michigan defenders have had this problem but they don't understand the leverage where you slow play it you literally you don't go full speed you have to just stay in your gap and be very mindful of it what the coaches say of him is he really can be a streaky player very good or not that good for streaks of time turning to corner robinson it's going to be a third down and about four i believe kenny demons who was a new starter today is the man who was out there to make the tackle and for iowa as they go down the stretch they just don't have another running back that they can trust right now other than adam robinson with brandon wager leaving the team for personal reasons during camp and jewel hampton out again with an acl but robinson's going to have to be the guy that gets 20 30 sometimes 40 carries in games like this where they're trying to melt the clock both they've got to keep him healthy no question about that quick looking pass got it not only the first down daryl johnson kudianos that is a record setting catch for him his third touchdown of the afternoon well this is just a real simple slant and the corner he he must expect but everybody's on the line i'm not sure well that was just bad technique by the corner there you can't get beat to the inside when you have when you have a safety to the inside you want to force the receiver towards him when you don't have the safety you have to force that receiver to the sideline with the extra point attempt and he's good so with 11 minutes 37 seconds left in our game the new score is the hawkeyes of iowa 35 and michigan 14. one more look and this was a great one from our guys as johnson cumiana scores it espn's college football is presented by cars.com where confidence comes standard and in part by faster this thanksgiving if you're on his list then you're already dead dwayne johnson in faster [Music] well the gentleman you're looking at that's our lead audio engineer billy bai and he is responsible for all internet or intercom i should say communications in the truck and controls what you hear at home and in fact that digital audio board in front of billy has 64 different faders on it [Applause] well and let's go back and give credit where credit is due darrell johnson coolianus now number one dj i think is what he goes by that's i was on the practice field down there about a month ago when he he walked up and said i'm dj he is it's a pretty good guy tim dwight to pass up and he's led this team three years in a row and nobody in the history of iowa football has ever led the team in receiving four years in a row jim gibbons did it three times back in the mid 50s dwight did it three times back in the 90s and it looks like cooliano's honestly the first hawkeye ever to do it four years in a row very impressive yeah it really is pass is caught nicely thrown and a good catch by stoneham good for 18 yards corsier seems to like what daryl stoneham does as far as his routes and getting him the football the catch he made earlier between the safety and the corner that'll make a quarterback your fan quickly looks back the other way throws this one and kelvin grady breaks by one tackler won't have the first down it'll be a gain of about seven and a half troy johnson makes the stop for the hawkeyes there's denard robinson who was tackled by tyler nielsen earlier in the game earlier i believe was in the third quarter got hit in the arm it wasn't the third quarter got hit in the arm and he's been out ever since this running play that's going to be enough for the first down mike daniels will make the stop on vincent smith it's important to note though with dinard robinson that we have not seen him be tended to at all so get the sense that this is a precautionary move by rich rodriguez and he's a very good backup quarterback so let him go out and play a little bit a lot of times you don't get these guys as much time as you'd like to gonna go long and there's a broken defensive coverage and as a result junior hemingway looked like the first guy out to the workout touchdown michigan 45 yards [Applause] well the corner saw a ghost that's what that's called there's micah hyde there is no reason with an outside receiver running deep for micah hyde to come off that much also greenwood the safety bales to the middle and that's who hyde expected to be there but hyde has got to keep leverage pushing back towards the receiver extra point attempt by brookheisen is up and good 10 28 left at our ball game once again a 14 point margin well iowa got caught they're in a cover three you've got deep thirds one two three but watch what happens as the inside receiver catches the eye of micah hyde right there he's peeking back inside but he's got to get to that deep third the receiver runs right behind him and because hyde came off of his responsibility that's why it was such an easy touchdown and that that'll be a teaching moment when they get back and put on the tape and say hey when we say deep thirds we mean deep third well i was not going to return that and let's take a look now with our pacific life game summary on that arm has not played since although he has not been tended too medically so i'm sure a lot of wolverines fans hopefully it's just a bruise and darrell johnson pulianis becomes the all-time leading receiver in iowa history three touchdowns also a career high today last two possessions iowa has driven for touchdowns adam robinson robert flores in new york let's check in with you all right ron sports center right now presented by sprint coming up next on abc the fifth race in nascar's 10 race playoff continues in charlotte the bank of america 500 jeff gordon is your pole sitter meantime game two of the american league championship series rangers leading the yankees 7-2 trying to send this series back to new york tied at one ron ed okay robert so the rangers trying to salvage at least one win at home adam robinson big opening in the middle spins off one tackler and i'll tell you that help defensively by gordon and kovacs is what kept him from picking up the first out it's third down watch the block by the right guard nolan mcmillan just does a wonderful job of staying square and on adam patterson the nose guard and that's exactly where robinson cuts it off the other thing robinson does well gets up towards the line of scrimmage before he makes that cut ball and now a flag comes down and now a second flag looked like three iowa offensive linemen went a little early rogers was the ball [Applause] [Laughter] well the whole line except james ferentz the center he was the only one late and that tells me one thing he got the snap count wrong if everybody else goes but the center you're wrong so now with his third down at about six they need to take it to the 30-yard line stretch playing to get the hand off and it's nowhere close to the first down as kenny demons came up and really made an attacking kind of tackle and it's going to be punting time for the iowa all of a sudden it starts to feel like with this crowd getting back into it maybe a little bit of momentum finally you know i think the last time michigan had any momentum was when they were up seven nothing early in the first quarter fifth punt of the afternoon for the iowa hawkeyes and there's a michigan player it's jonas mouton i don't know if he suffered a blow and he's woozy or what but he kind of went down just as the ball was being snapped you know they're doing the knee stress test on his right leg [Applause] and he couldn't get off after the last play he was supposed to be coming off right side of your screen he's working on the center ference and his oh you could see it right there as he went to plant to come back his knee kind of buckled underneath of him ference went to finish the block trying to maintain contact but that knee when he went to plant i think he had he had the weight of ference and himself and he may be shifted a little oddly but boy they can't lose him you know they've already struggled at that linebacker spot starting to roll some guys in but you mentioned that tackle by kenny demons that was a big big tackle and one they needed they needed something positive on defense and demons may have just provided on that third down of the deep man donahue to punt and it's another not so good kick off the side of his foot but he gets away from the deep man now being picked up and he'll be corralled at the 30-yard and as we go to break let's take one more look at that tackle i was talking about by kenny simmons right here he really attacked him and did not pick up the first down [Music] look at the michigan record they started 4-0 and finished 1-7 last year this year 5-0 and then the question mark and you know they got a chance to get back in this thing down to 14 points and 808 showing on the clock [Applause] forcier drills the ball has it complete guess who daryl stoner again now 4c8 is 14 of 20. one interception 190 yards and a touchdown and the reason people worried about that slide last year they lost to michigan state the next week they lost to iowa and it's feeling eerily similar right now start them again michael hyde is the man that they're throwing the football in his area too and finally michigan offensively going to a true hurry up they feel that clock starting to melt away down two scores have the momentum need to stick it in quickly and get the ball back if they can if the receiver is forced out in college football as long as he comes back in and establish himself in the field of play he can make that play and stoneham was doing everything he could to get back in the field of play but just couldn't quite do it you can hear on the one on the field mike's simple that was the official screaming he's out wow catches another one michael high defensively and that's going to move the chains again well if you're phil parker the defensive back coach for iowa i think you need to maybe and look iowa just doesn't play much press coverage they play off with two deep safeties or off with three d but i think you've got to tighten it down a little bit right now for micah hyde he's got he's got to get that cushion squeezed down a little bit looking back to his right that ball looked like it might have slipped out of his hand a little but he was still caught by him and there's the old theory when you got that kind of coverage throw it short because the receiver has it is in his favor well and hemingway did a wonderful job this ball was under thrown and crater the cornerback was going to go up and make the play but hemingway at 225 pounds boxed out crater and made a wonderful play on the ball timeout being called by the iowa hawkeyes you can see the head coach running down the sideline let's take a look at an isolation on that last play here well forcier got lucky he got bailed out by his receiver hemingway young man who's battled some injuries had a hamstring earlier answering earlier this year but this ball is under thrown and frater he just he just did never set his feet and the whole time hemingway had his feet underneath of him not a whole bunch of a height different there they're both at about six feet six one but porsche hung one up there and got bailed out by a big physical receiver at 225 pounds this by the way is a record best for hemingway career high 134 at receiving yards and you know we were talking to calvin mcgee the offensive coordinator yesterday he said we're so glad to have hemingway back a guy who's battled some injuries and he just has we've needed that physical presence at receiver we're so happy to have him yep in our playbook again he said he is a big play guy and he's proven that today stefan hopkins comes in the ball game at tailback number 33. keeps it he'll score [Applause] i believe that is mike daniels who is down for iowa player receiving attention well tonight terrell pryor and the new number one ohio state buckeyes face a tough road test when they travel to madison for a meeting with the wisconsin badgers at camp randall college football primetime presented by hampton hotels on espn at 7 eastern and it's also available online and on your phone well this crowd is uh used to at least early last year some heroics by tate forcier he had the game-winning touchdown pass forcier did against notre dame with 11 seconds left and then had another game-winning touchdown pass against indiana with under two minutes to play so they're used to him doing some things at the end of the ball game you can see mike daniels walking off the field under his own power young man who has really come on strong they can use him both inside and out either a tackle or a defensive end [Applause] so we got 655 left in the ball game and don't go away if i called your neighbor 35-28 now a 7-point margin by iowa over michigan now what did they do well for iowa if you give them the ball back i know you got the stop on the last one but your defense has just not been consistent enough i don't think to to get this ball back even though you have those three timeouts i you consider the on side but boy it's right on the fence here you know i think you kick it away but if they try to know inside it would not surprise me at all you also got to look up there and say michigan has got all three of their timeouts remaining and i think that's why ultimately you take it away here [Applause] and iowa will get it at the 40-yard line that's twice by brookheisen and the kicking struggles continue for michigan [Applause] millions of people watched the family go from ordinary to extraordinary and the adventure is just beginning michael chiklis stars in the super powered series abc's no ordinary family all new tuesday eight o'clock seven o'clock central on abc and i think iowa is going to be very ordinary on offense here i think they're going to feed it to robinson and try to make michigan use those timeouts and milk the clock adam robinson nope faked it to him and they throw the ball as a flag is down and that is to reisner reisner is all the way to the 35-yard line and the marker is at the line of scrimmage where normally like a defensive offsides is jt floyd is down with an injury who's been well iowa taking a long walk back illegal formation five men in the backfield offense five yard penalty repeats first down so we race a 24-yard play and a great call ruined by a mental error in your alignment ken o'keefe dials up as jt floyd has a hard time coming off remember all of that youth if i'm ken o'keefe i'm wondering who's coming in to replace him and it looks like courtney avery down here he's got 10 tackles jt or lt floyd does jt floyd to the bench trying to see if they get him back quickly that to me shows you what a good coaching staff iowa is the exact same play that they just ran you didn't defend it i'm gonna make you try to defend it again and you don't and what a wonderful job by reisner after the catch you don't expect your tight end to get that many yards after the catch when he was pretty well covered nice call by ken o'keefe pickup of ten of the play so with second down and five iowa under six minutes to play robinson with no place to go and i think another error by a senior quarterback you know you've got all of this pressure kovacs out here is unblocked and they've brought him almost every time and you just have to know he's there and get out of that play or bring another blocker to that side to put him in the face because greg robinson has called that every single time they've run the ball on second down just about jt floyd back on the field collects by the way seven tackles two and a half for losses third down they need to take it to the 50. looking pass and they've got to complete to make that and mcnutt goes all the way to the 42-yard line difficult catch on a slam too much celebration celebration inside there and he got pushed back to the dirt by his old man that's the second time we've seen a cornerback get beaten on a fake to the outside into the slant that time jt floyd who had been injured on the play before couldn't keep up with mcnutt robinson going to be very short yardage greg banks defensively will give credit oh this feels like uh alan reisner time to me again second and long you know one of the things that uh that the michigan staff talked about when they were mentioning coke's parents and his staff rich rodriguez said you know the thing that i appreciate so much and respect them for that coaching staff has been there forever and the consistency but he said you know they don't try to trick you they don't try to fool you they just do what they do it is simple but they say come stop us and he said most of the times people can and now a timeout has been called by iowa well i understand you want to get it right but in a tight ball game you still got one in your hip pocket but you know play it forward a little bit this is the most important drive but you certainly want to try to keep that one in case michigan gets the ball back can go down and tie save some time for your senior quarterback and possibly a timeout in case you have to come back and try to get a field goal but right now the reason you used that probably weren't happy with either the call maybe the wrong personnel was in there that's it probably the wrong personnel grouping for the play that they uh they wanted and you could see kirk he didn't go up and interrupt the conversation but he stood so that the quarterback could see him and said ricky you got one timeout left and the thing that you are dying to do here if you're iowa is start to get rid of these timeouts for michigan stands he's going to run out of bounds and you know it's interesting i assume it was a keeper because rogers was in the game at fullback and he had hooked the defender and and i think he missed it i do too i think that stands you want to throw the ball too yeah well remember brett morris the usual watch the fullback come over here and get a block he's supposed to release but he never did remember brett morris the starter is out but yeah rogers has got a release they're expecting him to be in the face of the quarterback now third down remember those vertical routes we saw before with mcnutt running down the middle i think that's what you dial up right here actually it's sand them in here maybe down the middle i have one third down situation six of 11. kovacs by the way on that last play good job he just held him up third down they swing it out he is caught and gets by a tackle is adam rodinson and he is still on his feet still going inside the 15-yard line boy put an asterisk by that play right there if iowa wins this football game 26 yards and it was a second effort and a third effort well they are running down the field but they hit the swing but watch the block by darrell johnson cullianos after this ball is caught by robinson a missed tackle in the open field great move by robinson but it was that block by djk right at the end that sprung robinson beyond the sticks in a bigger game [Applause] comes off as mouton makes the tackle [Applause] yeah and moutain is still walking gingerly and you can see that brace they put on his knee but we saw him get tangled up a little bit earlier in the game with james ferentz and boy this guy's got to be 28 rushes michigan calls a timeout so that's the reason we have a stoppage in play they are down to two timeouts left in the ball game iowa with one and it's going to be a second down and eight and iowa leading by seven let's go to robert flores in new york robert okay robert our situation as i just mentioned a seven-point ball game but it is the hawkeyes who are threatening and the clock is just melting away from michigan adam robinson goes left side tries to stay in bounds and that's smart move if nothing else just go down right there clock is now under three minutes and counting now in michigan is starting to have to burn through these timeouts good clock management by rich rodriguez and he wants some time back on the clock he thinks he got it earlier got the timeout called earlier but this is this has got to be so painful you know all of the mistakes that his team has made and here they sit down seven and it was a missed tackle on a third down that put iowa down near his goal line a lot a lot to teach and i know a lot of people around here wondering and we showed that graphic about are they going to go on a slide i don't think they will i think they have a very a good schedule coming up teams that they can beat wisconsin ohio state at the end obviously would be a test but good enough to beat the teams on their schedule and i think this is a different team than last year and these are all coachable things they're all things you can come back from both michigan state and in this ball game now you see the fans they want to be excited but they're a little frustrated as well they don't want another repeat of uh 2009. iowa breaks the huddle they come to the line of scrimmage situation it is third down they need to take it to the four yard line to move the chains one time out left for michigan gonna throw it pressure off the corner ball is delivered incomplete as applying to pressure was thomas gordon he's lucky he threw that just as he was getting hit that could have been a pick good call by greg robinson completely unblocked stanzey knew it was coming but now the adventures for iowa mike meyer comes out and they missing daniel murray the preseason grozo award winner so they're not out of the woods with what should be a chip shot 30-yard attempt the pass and the kick is good the gig is good the score is iowa 38 michigan 28. so iowa goes up by 10 with 253 left in the ball game and what do you do if you're michigan well you're going to you're up 10. you've got you you bleeded away two of michigan's timeouts kick this away let your defense come out the one thing you cannot do and this is the way iowa's built you can't have something thrown over your head it's okay if michigan goes out and scores but you you better make them use almost all of that 253 and their last time out so expect greenwood and stanzy to be back a little deeper than they normally are and they're telling their corners right now you need to be back as well buyer with the kickoff and this is going to take a strange bounce picked up by gallon at the 10. tripped up and then finally goes down for real at the 37-yard line robinson went out with an arm injury tape forcier came in and other than the one mistake which was the interception that micah hyde had he has been sensational it's obvious he and daryl stoneham have been buddies for a while and then junior hemingway a guy that they've wanted to come along from injuries and forcier again showing has a little bit of magic in him at the end of games he showed that last year early in the season that there was a nice finish of a run where it looked like he was going to be tackled for a loss michigan has scored on their last three possessions can they make it four tate foursier throws the ball and it is overthrown stone of the intended receiver and i'll tell you there were a couple of guys in the area primarily brett greenwood who was coming over gonna try to pick that ball off playing possum just a little bit [Applause] and look how far back the middle linebacker has moved for iowa number 50 lance tillerson forcier gets spun around now going again heavy pressure goes down ball is loose and michigan would appear to have recovered and the official's going to say he was down by contact and it was claiborne who was really coming after him oh there's a reason that this guy is number eight on mel keiper's big board for next april's draft he he has power he has speed he uses his hands very well he's going to make a fine nfl defensive end clock runs about to go under two minutes to play 38-28 iowa forcier looking and drills the ball intercepted and that is troy johnson the middle linebacker four turnovers wolverines christian ballard number 46 was coming palmell after the quarterback and helped force the issue and we saw this with denard robinson last week against michigan state and earlier in this game just holding on to it a little long not even sure where he's going with that ball but troy johnson with jeff tarpinian out and bruce davis comes up and makes a nice play to likely in this ball game you know the running play i'm telling you they list him at 205 but he's just driving people back i was just about to say here is the final timeout taken by michigan they have no time-outs remaining i know a guy that is back home in iowa that i promise you has got a smile a mile wide that's norm parker i can understand why this is never an easy place to play and there there's some places where you got 100 by the way the attendance today not quite 13 12 112 784. well you owe us 216 push-ups as you said 113. that's right i did [Applause] okay let's uh go ahead and add the victory by the hawkeyes and this is what the standings in the big ten look like michigan state ohio state iowa then purdue in northwestern wisconsin michigan at one and two along with illinois in indiana penn state and minnesota yet to win michigan state and ohio state do not meet [Applause] robinson just continues to pound but this is a good year to be an iowa hawkeye season ticket holder and it's also a good year if you have a good team to get yourself into the race for the big ten wisconsin michigan state ohio state all at home indiana poses a challenge because they can throw it as well as anybody in the conference northwestern a little bit under the radar but playing pretty well but that's a win likely against minnesota so really iowa's gonna have a lot to say about who's going to the rose bowl before this thing is over or the national championship game that's right stand you will take a knee and you play this season forward michigan state got a nice win today against illinois after an emotional win against michigan people thought that maybe illinois after blowing out penn state would give them a little more but those teams don't play michigan state and ohio state and if they both go undefeated it'll come all the way down to the bcs that will be the tiebreaker it gets to and i would think ohio state would win that but if you had two undefeated teams in the big ten and losses around the country boise state's undefeated start thinking is there a chance of an all big ten national championship and i would say there is stanzi will take a knee and they won't have to do anything more stanzi coming over to shake hands with some of the michigan defensive players and kirk ferentz coming out to shake hands with rich rodriguez and it goes in the record book as a victory for the hawkeyes hard fought and on the road that's the most important thing and if you were giving a player of the game award which we're not but it certainly would go to that gentleman right there adam robinson michigan so once again our final score is iowa 38 and michigan 28. iowa fell behind seven or nothing early then came back and got a big lead and then the wolverine
