15 Benefits of Praying in Tongues

[Music] I'm excited tonight to talk to you about one of my favorite subjects and this subject is 15 benefits of speaking in tongues 15 benefits of speaking in tongues and I want you to know that I lived 18 years as a sinner before I got born again and I was pursuing multiple avenues of sin and darkness and doing the wrong thing why do I bring that up not one time ever in all my sinful pursuits did I ever ever have an inkling to speak in tongues I never spoke in tongues why sin I never spoke in tongues why pursued the devil as speaking was in tongues was of the devil I would have been a master at it right and some of you were going I would have to but how many of you spoke in tongues before you were born again any hands not one right nobody's raising their hands why speaking in tongues is not of the devil it's of God right and early on in my Christian walk I had been born again about six months and I just got baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues and I was going to church and there's a girl I've been witnessing to and I brought her to church with me I knew she was demonized and I didn't know what to what degree necessarily but anyway so the church service began and I stand and she was over on my right and I'm lifting my hands and worshiping Jesus and all of a sudden I just decide I'm gonna start singing in the spirit seeing in other tongues so I began to do that and all of a sudden something grabbed my arm and pulled my arm down I looked over and it was that girl's body but it was not that girl it was fully fully demon-possessed girl that demon had taken over her body and it had grabbed my arm and pulled my arm down and said stop it you're hurting me and I got a big smile on my face and I said sit down in Jesus name and she sat down I say she wasn't the girl it was the demon that was in control sat down in that pew and then it was going like this like and it said what did you do I can't get up and I listen I don't have a scripture for that other than I know all of us have authority over the devil but I got to see a demonstration of a sign and a wonder of the devil being seat-belted down in that seat by I guess an angel did it I don't know how it worked but that whole service that that that girl was under that demonic possession and she could not move supernaturally by the power of God but it jumped out and struck a chord in my heart when when that demon said stop it you're hurting me why does the devil fight speaking in tongues why do people with a religious spirit come out and droves against speaking in tongues because that it hurts the devil it destroys the devil the devil can't understand that language amen and so there's so many benefits and the devil can't stand it when we get filled with the power of God because they power filled Christian can raise hell what does raise hell mean are AI ze raised means to level to the ground hallelujah destroy we are born to destroy hell I'm looking at a church full of Hell destroyers amen that's what you're called to do and we need the power of God because we get the power the eggs ooh SIA and the Dunamis of God the Bible says we will trample serpents and scorpions and all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means harm us that's the good news amen listen to this first Corinthians 14:2 Paul writing about what speaking in tongues is all about first corinthians 14:2 and the amplified for one who speaks in an unknown tongue speaks not to men but to God for no one understands or catches his meaning because in the Holy Spirit he utters secrets secret truths and hidden things not obvious to the understanding 1st Corinthians 13:1 says though I speak with the tongues men and angels and then first Corinthians 12:10 says to another divers kinds of tongues so when you are speaking in tongues you are speaking in the languages of both men and sometimes angelic languages that there's no earthly origin from and I'm telling you there is some really what I would characterize as strange languages on the earth and you know I've heard some languages that people like click make clicking sounds there's some really weird languages so you know when we start trying to figure out speaking in tongues just know it's natural languages and it's heavenly languages I was I was worshiping in tongues not too long ago and somebody came up to me and said you were speaking perfect French when you were speaking in tongues I was I didn't know that anyway and Kenneth E Hagin tells many examples where he said supernatural things while speaking in a language just worshiping Jesus and somebody heard it and so sometimes speaking in tongues is to affect men around us and we don't even know we're doing it other times we're speaking in tongues and it's a supernatural prayer to God when we initiate it we are praying but the byproduct can be its supernaturally impacting people that we don't even know their language what an awesome sign and a wonder of the supernatural god we serve at first Corinthians 12:10 to another divers kinds of tongues in the Greek it says different species of tongues it's very broad in the meaning the reason I bring that up is what I'm gonna be teaching you tonight is not about the gift of tongues and interpretation so there is a first Corinthians 12 gift of the Holy Spirit that some believers will operate in called tongues and interpret divers kinds of tongues and interpretations and that's for a public setting where somebody gives a message in tongues and then they release the interpretation supernaturally that's gifts of the Holy Spirit what I'm talking about is a personal devotional prayer life side of tongues that every single Christian in the world can can receive if they're taught about it right in Luke 24:49 the Bible says this and behold I send forth the promise of my father on you but you sit in the city of Jerusalem until you are clothed with power from on high notice Jesus last words were not go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature Jesus words to the disciples were sit sit until you're empowered how many of you know it's Christ in us the hope of glory it's not our mind our flesh our ability we need the power of God and he wants to fill us with his power he said wait until you're clothed with power from on high that's to array with the symbols of order and authority supernaturally amen and so hallelujah I want everybody to understand that speaking in tongues is not a prerequisite to going to heaven well you could you can live your whole Christian life without the baptism the Holy Spirit without ever speaking the tongues speaking in tongues and you'll still go to heaven it's not about heaven it's about having power and supernatural ability and right here and now how many of you want supernatural power and supernatural ability for God to use you in a mighty way an astounding way that God will use you well your you'll know it's not you doing it it's him how many of you want that that's what this baptism the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking of other tongues gives you now so we see that this is a gift that comes after salvation we know that because in Acts chapter eight Philip went down to Samaria and preached Christ they were saved they were baptized but the holy spirit hadn't fallen on any of them meaning it's an experience that comes after or is subsequent to salvation the reason that's important it could have been a millisecond after you got born again that you got baptized in the Holy Spirit what the the night I got born again I just got born again but my best friend got born again and began to speak in tongues right there I didn't speak in tongues right there so you know it happens different ways for different people you can't figure it all out God's a creative God right we can't put him in our little cookie cutter and figure him all out he's God right amen but we see in the Ministry of Jesus the very first reason why every single believer needs to be baptized in the Holy Spirit now think about this Jesus lived 30 years on the earth and he did not perform one single miracle or do anything supernatural until after he went to the River Jordan and he was baptized with the Holy Spirit amen and the Holy Spirit descended on him and the form of a dove and the father said openly this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased after that event Jesus shows us the very first reason every Christian needs to be filled with the Holy Spirit and that is for personal victory over sin and temptation personal victory over sin sin and temptation and actually were going to say number one it's putting to death the deeds of the body the first reason is number one putting to death the deeds of the body now Romans 8:13 says this for if you live according to the flesh you will die but if by the spirit you put to death the deeds of the body you will live now think about this your body can both love God and yet still be tempted with evil in this very same day in a few minutes think about Peter he said thou art the Christ the Son of the Living God and then he said oh Jesus you're not gonna get crucified and Jesus said gold star for you discerning that I'm the son of the Living God get thee behind me Satan for you saying you know one minute it's Holy Spirit the next minute was a diva's the devil right speaking through the same guy so we we have a body that's that the Bible says that David said my heart and flesh crowd for God so your body wants God your your mind wants God your spirit wants God but yet your body is capable as being tempted especially through the influence of demons and evil spirits that come against you to plant thoughts and to plant desires in your heart and in your mind right and so the Bible says that the Holy Spirit will help us mortify that means to put to death temptation sin the works of the flesh right not only that but when we pray in the Holy Spirit we receive the might of Holy Spirit to overcome temptation and be free think about this Ephesians 3:16 that he would grant you according to the riches of his glory to be strengthened with might through his spirit in the inner man think about that Holy Spirit as you pray in other tongues you're being strengthened supernaturally with might God's mighty power by Holy Spirit in the inner man awesome what is this power it's three types of power three Greek words Dunamis matter of fact the Greek word for you and me the way we're created is in Doudna male and it means a perfect container designed to hold the power of God you are the receptacle of heaven designed to hold the power of God the new wine isn't that good news the Dunamis and this Dunamis power is miraculous power like dynamite then there's the Greek word Kratos it means Dominion or force it's a derivative of the Greek word or it's related to the Greek word exuse eeeh to have spiritual authority spiritual force and Dominion and then there's the Greek word discus it means the omnipotence of God released in his power in other words God's power is not just low power or medium power it's omnipotent power no foe can withstand his power it he is El Elyon the Most High God this is the power we get isn't that good news release in our spirit when we pray in other tongues the second reason every believer needs to speak in other tongues is rest and refreshing rest and refreshing isaiah 28 verse 11 and 12 for with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people to whom he said this is the rest wherewith you may cause the weary to rest and this is the refreshing yet they would not here notice that they would not hear how many Christians are there have been wrongly taught or would not receive the baptism the Holy Spirit because they couldn't figure it out with their mind but I this is a group of people that has decided you're gonna receive Amen and you're gonna receive that benefit but but here the prophet Isaiah says there is a key to avoid burnout in your Christian life if you've been burned out in your Christian life and you're getting burned out or if you've been in ministry you're like oh I think I'm getting burned out there is a solution to prevent burnout amen and that solution is times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord when you pray in tongues on a regular basis you are receiving rest and refreshing straight from Holy Spirit he's infusing you with rest with supernatural refreshing and strength and renewing you so you're not doing things in your ability but you're doing things supernaturally by the ability of God and when God's doing it through you you don't get tired because it's not you doing it amen so we need to experience these times of refreshing what a blessing number three tongues is a supernatural sign that follow them that believe a supernatural sign that follow them that believe mark 16:17 and these signs shall follow them that believe in my name shall they cast out Devils they shall speak with new tongues now think about this when when you hear speaking in tongues in a church service or a prayer gathering that is a sure-fire sign of the presence of the invasion of the kingdom of God that Kingdom has come nigh because speaking in tongues is part of the kingdom matter-of-fact speaking in tongues is part of the New Covenant if that was the only gift of the Spirit tongues and interpretation that were part of the Old Covenant and so the New Covenant has this speaking in tongues this new gift they men that is for this new covenant this dispensation of grace in which we live and it's a supernatural sign it's a supernatural sign that you're a believer amen and that God's kingdom is here and God's kingdom is present amen now you can resist yielding to the Holy Spirit and speaking in other tongues depending on the degree of the anointing okay because some people like to say the Holy Spirit is a perfect gentleman I'd like to contend with that just for a moment and say he's not a perfect gentleman because he's um he's God and he's omnipotent and I'll just use this quick testimony the night I got baptized in the Holy Spirit I went down responding to an altar call and it wasn't even altar call to be filled with the Holy Spirit but I'm down front and there's an evangelist preaching powerful man of God my gosh that man was powerful and the Holy Spirit was what the power was that was on him that made him powerful it was Holy Spirit and I was about 20 feet away from me and he just looked at me and said not by might nor by power but by my spirit saith the Lord and that was kind of last thing I remember because all of a sudden all my physical senses shut off and I was aware of the glory of God or an experience with the glory of God that totally changed me forever and it felt like somebody took five gallons of gas and poured it in me and on me and lit it on fire only it didn't burn bad it burned good it was glorious and beautiful and holy and there's just no words to explain how wonderful his fiery love and presence was happening and I don't know how long that went on but it was there for a while and then all of a sudden my senses began to drift back into reality and the first thing that happened is my my hearing came back and I heard somebody praying in tongues super loud and I remember thinking in my natural my natural mind wow somebody really got something from God and then all of a sudden I realized it was me and then all of a sudden I realized I was on the ground and then all of a sudden I opened my eyes and saw my hands were up and so yeah the power of God can be so strong you can't resist it really can so a lot of people have experienced low levels of the power I'm telling you there's degrees of God's power that can hit this this nice Holy Spirit he is he's wonderful but he sometimes he's gonna give you what you asked for and you're not you know you don't understand what you asked for but it's all good let me say it's all good it's wonderful and that that night changed me forever amen and so but receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit if somebody receives prayer to be baptized with the Holy Spirit and that doesn't so-to-speak happen there's only two things to address at that point it's either unbelief or failure to yield to the spirit right so why is there unbelief at times people haven't been taught how many people have been taught wrongly tongues is of the devil you'll get a wrong spirit you know all kinds of fallacies that are not in the Word of God and not supported by Scripture and so sometimes people are working through these things and so we need to hear the truth of what God's Word says not man's opinion so that we can go to the word amen all right number four tongues the initial sign of the baptism and the Holy Spirit tongues is the initial sign of the baptism of the Holy Spirit Acts chapter two verse four and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance think about this church 120 people were present 120 Holy Spirit fell on how many all of them which is 120 now there were twelve apostles present and a hundred and eight believers present it wasn't just the Apostles that got the blessing everybody got it you know you couldn't have faith to receive the baptism the Holy Spirit if only a few people are qualified to get it and we've got to figure out which ones are actually spiritually qualified there's one qualification and that is to be born again here's another one that that will drastically affect receiving and that is your spiritual hunger when you get hungry for the baptism the Holy Spirit God is attracted to hunger God is attracted to desire when you desire more of God you're gonna get more of God amen even if you don't understand what you're asking for you will get more amen when you desire more amen so the Holy Spirit fell on a hundred percent of the 120 and then acts 19 to says this Paul said to them did you receive the Holy Ghost did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed now in acts 2:4 they had to wait for the Holy Spirit to come we don't wait anymore the Holy Spirit is already here and Paul didn't say to the Ephesian Christians who he believed were believers they weren't even believers at this point but he said have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed and and notice he used different language received received as different than God giving it's you receiving in other words Holy Spirit is here he left heaven and came to earth and he never left again Holy Spirit is present he's omnipresent amen and so now for us to receive we don't have to wait we don't have to tarry we just have to know what belongs to us and then receive it by faith that's all we have to do isn't that wonderful here's another interesting thing acts 2:38 says this then Peter said to them repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the holy the gift of the Holy Spirit for the promise is to you and to your children and to all who are afar off as many as the Lord our God will call some people have erroneously tried to teach that Holy Spirit was only given on the earth during the 1st century while the Apostles were alive but here's the problem with that it's just simply not true Peter says right here this promise the gift of the Holy Spirit is to you and your children and to many Tsar far off and many as many as the Lord our God shall call well we're all called and so it's were afar off and we're all called so we still qualify don't we here's where they try and root that false argument they try and say in Acts chapter 8 that Philip preached for people and they got saved that he preached miracle ministry they got saved but he couldn't get him filled with the spirit he had to call Peter and John to come down from Jerusalem and then the Holy Spirit came yes that that is true but in Acts chapter 9 a simple believer came Aeneas came to the Apostle Paul and prayed for him that he might be receive his sight because he had been blinded on the road to Damascus when he met the risen Christ amen and to receive the holy spirit and apparently it was effective because Paul says in first Corinthians chapter 14 verse 18 now this is the man that we read the New Testament right that wrote two thirds of the New Testament this is even the guy that quotes to quote scriptures to try and come against speaking in tongues which is really hilarious if you think about it because Paul said in first Corinthians 14 18 I think my god I speak with tongues more than you all and one translation says I think my god I speak with tongues more than all of you put together Paul had mega grace on his life and he spent a lot of times praying in tongues I like to look for correlations in Scripture there's a mighty correlation praying in tongues is a mighty weapon and a mighty gift we need to take advantage of amen and the man who people who are cessationists that come against speaking in tongues and the baptism the Holy Spirit try and say the guy they quote spoke in tongues more than everybody I just think that's ironic okay here's another great reason for another benefit of speaking in tongues number five supernatural prayer for unknown situations supernatural prayer for unknown situations Romans 8:26 so - the Holy Spirit comes to our aid and bears this up in our weakness for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought in the King James it says the the Holy Spirit Romans 8:26 helps our infirmities that word help means to take hold together with against did you hear me to take hold together with against that means there are situations that Holy Spirit that you don't know about but you need to pray about and Holy Spirit will come and give you an ocean to hit take hold together with against some strategy of the devil let me give an example when I was going to Bible School and in 1993 my roommate and I were driving to school one day in his little truck and we're in the passenger lane and in the the driver's side lane of a four-lane highway there was a big conversion van sitting there and we were running late and the lighted turned green and we were going 50 miles an hour down this on the right side and somebody the conversion van didn't check that we were coming and waved somebody across so at 50 miles an hour we hit this car and cut the front end right off it we hit it so hard because we didn't have chance to brake but it threw the truck into the light pole and we hit the light pole and then we flipped over and the truck blew apart in anyway long story short we climbed out the top side of the cab my side because that was laying on side we took climbed out and this doctor ran from the front row of the cars she was the doctor she said lay down your severe severely injured you've bet you've been severely injured you just don't know it we looked at her and what hallelujah glory to God hallelujah she knew we were healed we were protected but what happened was what I didn't know is I was dating a girl at that time and she had this big picture of me and in her room and she woke up 30 minutes earlier than she normally would ever wake up and she saw that picture of me and she had an unction in her heart to pray for me like something's going on I need to pray for him and she spent 30 minutes praying in tongues because she went to an apostolic and prophetic church like this one and she was schooled in the things of the Spirit so she prayed in tongues for 30 minutes until she felt a release and victory come and she knew it everything was good not only that my roommates relatives in Texas this is in Tulsa my roommates relatives in Texas several had been woken up in the night and prayed for him during the night we both got out of that truck without any damage to her body whatsoever the only thing I ever had was a little bruise two bruises here and a bruise here from the seat belt that was it when I got out of the truck and I looked at the truck the truck the front end was crushed in the rear bed was nearly ripped off the light bullet hit so hard it ripped off both rear tires and the real axle and the driveshaft and parts covered the entire intersection it closed the intersection for an hour and we were both completely unscathed we even go to the emergency room we need to go to the doctor we were fine god is good listen parents you want to control what your kids do and you want to protect your kids you can't be there all the time and you can't put enough rules to keep things from happening but what you can do is you can be a Holy Ghost person who prays in tongues and is sensitive to God and I'm telling you what if something's coming up against them the Holy Spirit will take hold together with against with you and stop the strategies of Hell and I stand here today alive in this ministry because the Holy Spirit and the intercession and Holy Spirit helping us pray for things we don't know how to pray for isn't that awesome god is so good we need this gift amen number six it keeps our prayers in line with God's will keeps our prayers in line with God's will listen to this Romans chapter 8 verse 27 and the searcher of hearts knows what the spirits meaning is because his intercession for God's people are in harmony with God's will now listen I can do my best to pray a prayer in English amen and get it right and sometimes I do and sometimes I don't I could miss it when I pray with in English because I have incomplete knowledge I have incomplete revelation we know in part we only know in part we don't know it all right but when I pray in tongues I can never miss it why I am praying divine secrets and mysteries divine strategies from heaven and I personally believe when it says divine mysteries and divine secrets the reason they're Secrets is because the devil doesn't understand what you're saying and that's one of the reasons he hates it because when if you only pray in English then he's listening to those prayers and trying to avert them he can't avert them but he can try and resist them when you're praying tongues he's like oh my gosh well they sinned I don't know how to deal with this right so it's it's powerful that this gift gives you the ability to always pray in line with the will of God a hundred percent not only that it'll keep out of selfishness in your prayers you could be praying and you don't even know what you're praying for some missionary in Africa that's getting ready to get eaten by a lion and your prayers stopped it here's something right I mean you just don't know what you're praying about but it's valuable in its perfect prayer every time now that doesn't mean we don't pray in English we must pray in English I can't release my faith about a current situation and believe I receive an answer to prayer by praying in tongues so it's like two wheels of a bicycle you can't ride a bike very well with one tire that's really difficult to do you need both wheels you need praying in English and praying in tongues for maximum effectiveness amen number seven this is a really important one keeps us full of the love of God keeps us full of the love of God Romans chapter five verse five says this and hope does not put to shame because our hearts are full of the love of God through the Holy Spirit which is given to us look at that church we all face issues with our love walk how many of you would be honest enough to say that you could improve in your love walk and you want to improve this is the key this is the key how do we improve in our love walk praying in tongues how does that work because we pray in tongues the love of God is released on the inside of us the God kind of love so I can't love you right with my personal love I need the agape love of God that the love that God has to be released in my heart afresh to love like God loves and that's what this gift does not only that not only does praying in tongues release the love of God afresh in your heart to strengthen your love walk number two Galatians 5:6 says this for in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything but faith working through love now the love of God is a catalyst of faith and when I pray in tongues and I'm filled with the love of God faith worketh by love I just set myself up for my faith through effect to function that much more effectively because I'm receiving the love of God what does that do them and I'm receiving the love of God it's getting me free from condemnation it's getting me free from an orphan spirit oh I'm not worthy no I seeing God's love I'm experiencing his love he's in love with me he cares for me I'm accepted now I can believe because I'm understanding who he is now think about this you can have two theologians that would debate back stand back back to back about healing is healing from God does God heal today that is it his will to heal people but listen just boil it down to this simple fact God is an Abba Father he loves us the Bible says about every human earthly father if you then being evil know how to give good gifts to your children how much more shall your heavenly Father give good gifts and one translation says the Holy Spirit to them to ask them right so if we want to give good to our kids he wants to do it so much more when we get a revelation of this we're not stymied in receiving from heaven instead we're able to receive because we know the Father loves us then we know the father has accepted us in the beloved amen number eight praying in tongues stimulates faith praying in tongues stimulates faith this is Jude verse 20 there's only one chapter and it's in the amplified it says this but you beloved build yourselves up founded on your most holy faith Megg progress rise like an edifice higher and higher praying in the Holy Spirit now think about this praying in tongues stimulates your faith because you never know the next word you will speak still the whole time you're praying in tongues you are exercising your spiritual muscles when you pray in tongues you don't know the next word you're gonna say you just have to step out and speak now some people think well can you just turn God on and turn him off at will no Holy Spirit's always on Holy Spirit's always ready to give the utterance he's just waiting for us to step out and speak and move and as soon as we move he gives the utterance but you every time you do that you're exercising your faith muscle because you are not knowing the next thing you're going to say so it's a it's a faith walk it's a it's a faith exercise isn't it now notice it says it builds you up like an edifice higher and higher what is an edifice an edifice is a building that is awe-inspiring if you go to Spain or France and see these cathedrals that are 800 feet tall that are so gorgeous and amazing that took four or five hundred years just to build them you just stand there with your jaw drop because it's so amazing now Paul says this rise like an edifice higher and higher actually Jude says this rise like an edifice higher and higher as you pray in tongues your buildings yourself in the spirit you're building yourself up you're making yourself bigger and greater in the spirit realm and Smith Wigglesworth said it this way I'm a thousand times bigger on the inside than I am on the outside how many of you remember Smith saying that right and he can look at his life and tell he indeed was a thousand times bigger on the inside and his awesome miracle healing ministry came after he was baptized in the Holy Spirit check out his biography amen number nine this is one of the most important reasons there is to speak in other tongues number nine personal edification personal edification first Corinthians chapter 14 verse 4 he who speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself that he who prophesies edifies the church now this church loves prophecy and this church loves prophets but this church also loves speaking in tongues right and in a public setting it is more advantageous for me to preach to you in a known language where I'm prophesying by the Holy Spirit as I'm preaching there's prophecy happening all the time as I'm preaching so that's happening in a known language and it's edifying your mind and feeding your human spirit now I could stand up here for this time and just speak in tongues the whole time and guess what I would get blessed but the rest of you probably wouldn't unless you joined in and started praying in tongues with me right so the thing about it it's for personal edification now think about what this means let me read out of four translations the Cambridge basic English says you do good to yourself when you pray in tongues the NLT you strengthen your strengthen personally in the Lord so you do yourself good you strengthen yourself The Living Bible helps himself grow spiritually when you're praying in tongues you're growing spiritually imagine that and the amplified bible says this you improve yourself there's a whole lot of self-help and self-improvement techniques in the body of Christ but one of them has overlooked too much and it's praying in tongues I want you to think about this one translation for edify means to charge it means to charge that looks like my phone is at about thirty percent charge right now if I don't eventually plug this phone in it will die at which point I can't receive a call you get it and so here's the thing we need to be charged we're like that cell phone we drain we leak we we don't keep what we had yesterday we need to be filled a French they were filled in acts two they were filled again in Acts chapter four we need fresh in filling fresh charging fresh doing good to ourself fresh strengthen ourselves fresh growing spiritually all these things happen as we pray in tongues isn't that wonderful number ten tongues forgiving thanks first Corinthians 14 verse 15 through 17 says this what is the conclusion then I'll pray with the spirit and I'll also pray with the understanding I'll sing with the spirit and also sing with the understanding otherwise if you bless with the spirit how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say Amen at your giving of thanks since he does not understand what you say for indeed you give thanks well but the other is not edified now unless Holy Spirit supernaturally moves on you if you're saying grace at the Thanksgiving table and there's a bunch of unbelievers there and people who don't know God are people that are other denominations that have don't have the Holy Spirit wisdom dictates even spiritual wisdom that you don't just start praying in tongues and then say Amen I mean let's have a little bit you know we don't throw the baby out with the bathwater here we have a little bit of sense right a little bit of wisdom a little bit of being led by the spirit now there is the other side that that if Holy Spirit moves on you to do it listen I listen one miracle I saw happened a boy broke his arm one bone was broken too and dislocated knee bruised court required surgery the other bone was completely broken - but was not severed I prayed for him and I felt holy spirit said no praying tongues and they didn't pray in tongues and I shifted and prayed in tongues the power God went in and healed his arm but it didn't override his will because he wanted to cast so guess what God did the bone that was like this it didn't happen the instant right then he went back in the house and his mom was walking through the house and she walked by his room he went ah and and his mom said what just happened is that was Joseph what happened Joseph he said I just felt my bones go back together it was right after he was prayed for and he went back got the x-ray and the bone that was severed went back together perfectly set by God and the other one just had a little tiny hairline fracture so you had to get his gas he didn't have to keep a cast but he wanted to get a cast thought it would be cool you know God just respected his wishes right but that miracle would not have happened unless I prayed in tongues as a sign to that family of Holy Spirit and the baptism of Holy Spirit and so you have to be led right be led and here it's interesting Paul says I will pray with the spirit I will pray with the understanding that shows you that you can pray in tongues at will and there's some denominations that preach that you can't let me tell you something the time that you really don't feel like praying in tongues and feel dry is exactly when you need to do it the absolute most how many of you can testify when you feel the driest in the dullest spiritually it's time to pray in tongues and pretty soon that river starts flowing that life comes that joy comes and all of a sudden everything's good again amen that's when we need it amen number eleven freedom from worldly contamination freedom from worldly contamination sometimes in this world you're going to be in situations where you're around people that are demon possessed and people with unclean spirits and people that have this that or the other going on how do you keep that junk from getting on you here's a real easy way to do it when you're around those people you can just under your breath be praying in tongues you don't even have to speak it out loud you can just do it under your breath and it's happening but yet nobody hears you're doing it and what it does is it's it's helping you focus on God and not all the stuff that's going on with them how many of you know what I'm talking about so freedom from worldly contamination it's a wonderful way to keep yourself free from worldly contamination number twelve helps you become spirit conscious and God inside minded first Corinthians 14:14 says this for if I pray in a tongue my spirit prays but my understandings and fruitful is unfruitful so think about this when you're praying in another tongue it's your spirit praying it's not your mind praying and they have actually done MRIs of people praying in tongues and found out the speech Center wasn't active so guess what you can do I I dare you to try this pray in tongues and read your Bible at the same time you can do it because you're not using the speech center of your brain you're you're praying by the Spirit so you can pray in tongues outloud and read your Bible at the same time hey I'm all for a good time management right amen so you can pray in tongues and at the same time but then first Corinthians 6:19 says this do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit whenever I'm speaking in tongues whenever you're speaking in tongues you are becoming ever aware that Holy Spirit is within you and one of the things that I was trained on years ago and I really love this is when you begin to pray in tongues you identify where the river of God comes out of your spirit the river of God comes out of my spirit right here when I'm bringing sons I feel the flow coming right out of here guess what that's the same place that the voice of God comes up out of my spirit when he wants to talk to me or the inward witness comes up out of my spirit right here the Bible says proverbs 20:27 the spirit of man is the candle of the Lord searching all the inward parts of the belly amen and so you as you pray in tongues you identify that flow of the river and where the voice of God and where the inward witness comes from amen makes you God inside mine that God is in me you know when you get God conscious on the inside of me and he's my helper what can't I do what is impossible nothing is impossible with God the scripture says right why because he's inside us to help us in everything and in anything we do number thirteen brings the tongue under subjection this is really a big one brings the tongue under subjection to verses out of the book of James James chapter three and verse two for we all stumble in many things so if you're trusting and your good performance for your salvation you in big trouble because you stumble in many things the scripture says and so do I how many of you realize you stumbled many things amen I realize I stumble many things but I'm not saved because I stumble many things didn't either do I condone stumbling and many things even though I do sometimes write but what what is our salvation come from the blood of Jesus and faith in the blood of Jesus thank God amen we stumble in many things but here James goes on to say this if anyone does not stumble in word he is a perfect man able also to bridle the whole body verse eight but no man contained the tongue it is an unruly evil full of deadly poison the most difficult thing the most difficult member of your body to tame according to Scripture is your tongue and if you contain your tongue you can bring every other member of your body passion whatever it is under subjection to your recreated human spirit amen and how do we do that when you speak in tongues you are literally yielding your most unruly member to God himself to God the Holy Spirit you're taking that thing that has a propensity to say things and hurt people and tear other people down and whatever you're taking that tongue and you're yielding it to God himself that is the only way that you can overcome the tongue right and the Bible says no man can do it in their own strength it takes God and thank God we're not without God we have his ability and his power to help us number 14 tongues of the door to the supernatural and the rest of the gifts of the holy spirit tongues are the door to the supernatural and the rest of the gifts of the holy spirit in other words the more time you spend praying in tongues the more the other gifts of the Spirit you'll start operating in if you don't believe me just try it you'll find out Acts chapter 19 and verse 6 says this and when Paul had laid hands on them the Holy Spirit came upon them and they spoke with tongues and prophesied these are the believers Paul found in Ephesus who later became the Ephesians church the that has the book of Ephesians that we read all the time right this is that group of the believers and this is the gospel coming to them and when Bible says when Paul laid hands on them they spoke with tongues so they got the initial evidence and then they got a bonus God's and the bonuses he gave him a bonus what was it prophecy in that awesome now I've actually had this happen years ago Canada and I have this happen in our living room one time we had a couple over and they were just young and the Lord and and just you know really young didn't know hardly anything but they were hungry and that's all you need if you're hungry forget about it you're gonna get everything from God just stay hungry stay hungry your whole life long and so I began to talk to them about the baptism the Holy Spirit they both were like yeah we want it so we laid hands on them power of God came on them boom they fell out on the power in our living room they fell it on the on the floor and they began to speak with tongues and the husband he starts rolling around back and forth on our floor if a heard of a Holy Roller he has never heard of or been taught about a Holy Roller he was a Holy Roller he was rolling around speaking in tongues and then he started prophesying the word of the Lord he was prophesying the word of the Lord to himself and Canada and I are just sitting back there God just love just enjoying what God is doing amen and so sometimes you know God will give a bonus when you get baptized in the Holy Spirit but bottom line is when you pray in tongues you're opening do the door to the supernatural it's like it's like praying in tongues how many of you remember one of those old analog radios that wasn't digital but had a dial you had to turn to tune it in when you pray in tongues you're getting off flush channel and you're getting over on spirit Channel and you're tuning in to the voice of God to hear him clearly amen the last but not least benefit of praying in other tongues is tongues is a sign or an advertisement you might say to unbelievers tongues is a sign or advertisement to unbelievers 1st Corinthians 14 22 therefore tongues are for a sign not to those who believe but to unbelievers this is Paul's writing to the church at Corinth talking about speaking in other tongues and tongues are for a sign not specifically I believe what he's talking about here is the gift of diverse kinds of tongues it could be you speaking in tongues but in this example let me give you a real world example of this this is how I actually I got born again I was in a church service I didn't know God I wasn't saved and there in the middle praise and worship and the pastor in the middle of the second song the pastor walks up to his wife the worship leader stops her in the middle of worship and says everybody pray there's some people here tonight God wants to save my best friend and I looked at each other wide-eyed went oh boy we're in trouble and it's thought maybe if we just bow our heads and close our eyes what can blend in and it'll be somebody else and the next thing we know is as we do that somebody behind this stood up in this booming loud powerful voice and begins to speak in other tongues and the second they did that the second they begin to speak this language I knew it wasn't a man speaking I knew it was God speaking and the terror of the Lord fell on me that's a new covenant term not an Old Covenant term that Paul said knowing then the terror of the Lord I was talking about the scary power of God fell on me and I begin to violently shake and the next thing I know is in a vision in heaven and that's when I got saved so anyway the well open the door to all that my salvation and all that happened it was by somebody yielding the Holy Spirit and speaking that message out in tongues with the interpretation that you know hit the bull's eye in my heart and let me know I needed to get right with God right then so tongues can be a thief or a sign when do we do this well you know you can miss it in this or you can hit it and how do you do that you gotta be led of the Spirit because I know there's also circumstances where people have hurts tongues and speaking tongues got freaked out and run out of a church I'm aware of that but when you do it led by the Holy Ghost let me tell you something lies can be tremendously changed by Holy Spirit and the Bible says in the book of first Corinthians 14 I have the verse in front of me do not forbid speaking in tongues
