when it comes to e-mountain biking there is a load of things you should be doing but in today's video i'll be showing you a few things you should never do when it comes to your e-mountain bike one thing you definitely want to avoid is washing your e-mountain bike upside down as tempting as it is to clean your drivetrain and your wheels and tires and things like that what it's also going to do it's going to fill your bike up with water now a lot of bike manufacturers actually have drain holes in the battery and the motor to allow that water to drain out with gravity if you're washing it upside down you're just going to fill your bike up one of the worst things you can do for your e-bikes battery is leave it flat after a ride so you've been out totally emptied the battery then you stick it in your shed without charging it now this is really going to impact that battery's health the best bet is if you're going to ride it the next few days is to put it back on charge and top it up to 100 if you're going to leave it for a few weeks or in storage you just want to top that battery back up to around 60 to 70 percent now we all know e-mountain bikes are pretty heavy on the drivetrain and one of the cheapest items to replace is going to be your chain but you simply cannot fit a brand new chain to worn out cassette and chaining you'll definitely run into problems like chain suck gears jumping under load it simply will not happen one of the cheapest ways of doing this is to keep your eye on chain wear with a chain checker or if you are going to replace your chain you need to replace the chain the cassette and the chainring at the same time now one we're all guilty of is leaving our e-bikes on charge for longer than they should be maybe days maybe weeks leaving that charger connected to your e-bike isn't a good idea although a lot of the smart chargers are clever and they will turn off once that battery is topped up you could get a malfunction and therefore cause something pretty nasty to happen now a great way of getting around this is by fitting an electronic timer to your charger on your plug that way you know you can set it for four or five hours then the power is gonna be shut off therefore leaving your e-bike nice and safe a few of us love riding our e-bikes going out for those solo missions and i'm one of those riders too but one thing you should never forget to do is let someone know your route in your estimated time of arrival it's really important if something was to happen and one thing you should never forget is going to be a fully charged mobile phone because that can literally be a lifesaver if things were to go wrong now one thing i've learned over the years is not to race a roadie on the road as tempting as it is and if you see them struggling on the hill climbs it's quite easy to go past in turbo mode with a big smug on your face but as soon as that road levels off or become slightly downhill they'll be all over you straight away if you do go past just give them a cheery hello and expect to see them pretty shortly now one way to make your eu bikes cockpit look super dated and really old is by working on your bike upside down it's pretty tempting to do but soon your lever is going to be scratched your display is going to be all scuffed in your seat it's probably going to have holes in it so as tempting as it is try invest in a work stand uh to do the maintenance on your e-mountain bike but if you are out and about on the trail perhaps just try and get a couple of branches or a couple of rocks put them under your grips and that way it's just gonna elevate those bars off the ground and stop scratching those controls now as great as the modern tubeless tyre and sealant is it's definitely wrong to depend on it to fix every single puncture you're gonna get on your ride if the hole or the slash is too big the sealant certainly won't fix it so when you're riding on those bigger rides you definitely need to be taking an inner tube or maybe some tire plugs as well to fix some of those bigger holes that the sealant won't seal something you never want to do on a big ride is kick it off in turbo mode or even trail mode if you can you want to go on the mode with least assistance possible that way it's going to save you battery for those bigger rides and also when it comes to when you are running out of battery if you switch back from turbo mode to say eco it's going to feel like your e-bike is turned off what i suggest you do is actually try and start those first few just the meters at your house with the e-bike turned off then switch it up into eco you'll be surprised the amount of assistance you're actually going to get stick it in turbo your battery is going to be disappeared super fast now one thing you definitely don't want to forget and something you should never do is work on your e-bike's drivetrain with the power still switched on it's quite easy to forget that especially if you drop a chain out on the trail and you're trying to pull out the cassette or your chains come off on your chainring just remember to switch it off otherwise it could get pretty nasty down there now something you never want to ignore is the error codes that flash up by the software on your e-mountain bike this monitors the battery in the motor and if it says that there's a problem you don't want to simply turn it on and off again and reset it you want to get to the bottom of the problem before that problem strikes because it'll probably strike in the middle of nowhere the disc brakes on your e-mountain bike are super powerful units but they are really easy to get contaminated just by a simple touch of your hands and the oils on your skin can actually contaminate that disc let alone an overzealous spray of chain lube or bike polish is simply going to contaminate those pads so don't get in the habit of touching them or spraying anything onto them at all never underestimate a big day out on your e-mountain bike you always want to take enough tools and spares to get you out of trouble too and when it comes to food and water well you want to take more of that than you expect to use there's nothing worse than feeling hungry and dehydrated out on those big rides so get prepared for those big days now one thing you should never forget to do when it comes to using the apps on your mobile phone to show where you've been riding on things such as strava and commute things like that is to set your privacy zone what this is going to do is end your rides before you get to your house if you forget to do that you give them thieves all that information that they need to know where you live and where you keep your precious e-mountain bike so there you go a few things that you should never be doing on your e-mountain bike but get involved down in the comments box down below about any of these things you might have done on ue mountain bike and what happened to you give us a thumbs
