[Music] hello everyone it is Sunday night and we are here live at bat City Comic professionals which means it must be time to wind down your weekend we are going to talk about all of this week's small press and Indi new releases as always I'm your host Shannon AKA small press Shan to get you way too excited about more books than you'll ever have time to read uh it's going to be an awesome time and we are going to do it all while winding down the weekend with this M this is a a yuku Valley malbeck from Aldi right yes okay and this is part of their specialy selected ones um it is a single Vineyard mback which was handpicked from high altitudes and cool weather um it says it's got an exceptional uh its exceptional terior provides to this expressive malbeck bold and fresh fruit characters with hints of sprice and floral notes so we're going to see um if if we can taste any of that and see how it goes I can smell it it does smell like flowers that's very smooth like all the flavors are very light in a perfect way to blend together I could see why this was specially selected it's more flowery than vanilla eat it is it doesn't say there's vanilla it says spice yes but for most of the wines that we drink they usually have vanilla kick to them yeah this one has uh the flowy taste I always wonder like what the flour is when they say there's a floral note like what flower are you putting uh into your wine to make it florally like is there rose petals in the wine like is there like is that just like they took some of the like when The Vineyard grew it grew some floral stuff on it I don't know I've never done that research so if you have please uh send me a link or tell me because I really want to know what it means when they say they have that flour in it because I don't really I don't know I don't know but I know that it tastes good so mhm I could drink this does it say anything it says it's got fresh black and red fruit with a long Supple finish and it's paired well with uh grilled meat or hearty pasta dishes and it does say that it's a it says it's bold I don't find it to be a very Bold Flavor at all um compared to the things we normally drink I I don't think it's like super like Flavor push it says it's flavor forward but I I kind of actually feel like the flavors on the back end more than the than the front for sure um but it is really good and honestly I think that this is another one of those wines where if you're not really sure about the strong flavor of Reds but you want to get into more of the dry strong flavored Reds this might be a stepping stone from a sweeter to a a drier red for sure um I'm going to move this over though I really like this label it's very pretty and it's from Argentina which I guess is where the Yuka Valley is um so I'm going to share this live stream out so people can join us and hang out and talk about comics with us I'm really excited because uh I read a lot of books this week there are a lot of books that multiple issues of the same book came out this week and so I got to read like one through three of some books and I'm very excited about that um because I love comics Comics to me um all right so hopefully you're joining in um I'm going to put that over there now because I will I will knock it off the counter um we had a fun week at bat City this week we had ladies night on Thursday uh ladies and non-binary nerd night it was a lot of fun um I got to meet some new people so that was really cool um we had oh my gosh we had um workshops on Saturday even though there was it was a rainy day starting yesterday we had some great workshops where uh we got to teach some some kiddos how to make their how to write their own comic books and so thank you to all the kids that came out you can see some of their work on our on our Instagram and our Facebook um we also had a field trip with Imagine School North Mane this past Monday which was really really cool um we had about 40 a little bit over 40 middle schoolers come uh they did everything from design their own bookmarks to make their own Comics to uh participating in a Avenger hunt which was really cool and we learned that most middle schoolers have never heard of Archie so we uh learned that in our history of comics lesson that we did we started all the way back at the beginning with comic strips in the 1894 1895 time period worked our way forward and spent a lot of time focusing on who Archie was because they had not heard of him and I think that all kids should know who Archie is and every kid got a free Archie digest comic to take home with them so they could learn more uh it was a lot of fun thank you so much to the Imagine School we can't wait to join them at their school for their Comic Con coming up uh April 20th so if you want to go and support the Imagine School they are having a Comic Con with a bunch of local creators as well as you know some vendors from around the area you can go join them April 20th and have a lot of fun with them it's going to be great and you're helping support the school in the process um we also got to spend time uh twice this week with our friends from the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Bron rers which is really cool um we had a kickoff party with the man Chamber of Commerce this Tuesday and uh yesterday even though it got rained out we got to start off Spring training for just a minute with the block party downtown to kick off the Pittsburgh Pirates spring training season which really excited about if you are a Bradon local and you've never been come out and support your Pittsburgh Pirates this season uh spring training starts this week the uh this is the this is it like it's we're ready to go so start picking your uh your players getting excited uh cuz it's it's all about to start and all starts here in Brad andon so we're really looking forward to another great season um and then coming up this week we don't have any events just so you know this week uh is is going to be eventless and I hope that in more than one way here at Fat City uh Matt and I will actually be at the comics Pro retailer Summit which is for this is a Trade Organization for comic store owners and retailers and it is the only TR Organization for that so we are going to go there and meet with other retailers Publishers all kinds of creators and things and just kind of see what's going to happen in comics this year and help get uh everybody pumped for a great year of comic books in the comic book industry the store will still be open I want everybody to know that because oh we're back okay yes so in case I need to rewind that just a minute Matt and Shannon will be gone this week but Barrett will be here this St will be open come talk to Barrett about your favorite uh art in comics and in uh all of history because Barrett loves to talk art history talk to him about all your favorite books right now he will be here uh for our regular open hours Wednesday through Sunday 11:00 to 8 uh Wednesday through Saturday and 11:00 to 7 on Sunday come see him this week and uh it'll be a fun amazing time so seeing of fun and amazing times I'm going to take another drink of this malbeck and then we are going to jump in because there are a ton of comics this week all right whoa whoa whoa I'm gon I'm gonna just I'm like every time I hit the cabinet it makes me nervous okay all right it we are going to kick it off with Earth divers uh issue 15 from IDW this is one of the like long running like IDW Originals that they launched for that new imprint this year uh I guess last year and this is the story of a group of people in the future who have come to the end of the Earth essentially there it's post-apocalyptic America is destroyed and they're like you know know this the American America has nobody to blame but itself and really we should start back with Christopher Columbus and we should try to change the future and they find this cave that you can go through that lets you go back in time but it's only like a one-way ticket and only one person can go at a time so in the first Arc of the story somebody actually goes to try to stop Columbus uh from ever making it to America in the second Arc they went all the way back to the ice age to try to stop people from crossing over the bridge uh the land bridge or to kind of help them survive crossing over the land bridge and and build up a better uh protection for themselves well now they're in 1776 and they are trying to stop uh they're trying to rewrite the Declaration of Independence to actually include everybody from the beginning and there's actually a great conversation in here where she's like look the part that you say uh all men are created equal and they were like well we meant men as in like man as in like humanity and she's like yeah that's really not specific and in the future they really mess that up so can you guys fix that and so there's really been a a really long running battle to try to just get the founding fathers to to really think about every word that goes into it and to talk about the differences and how we interpret things then versus now um and now we're kind of seeing it hit hit the fan as uh things in the future are getting more messed up and things in the past are really really getting messed up at the end of this issue and uh their plans to change things never seem to go right and if you like time traval stories and you you know are into American history Earth divers is definitely a good one to pick up uh I hate Fairy Land Issue 11 from Image Comics this is the issue 11 of the current Arc of I hate Fairyland cuz if you know it's it's this is like volume six essentially of I hate Fairy Land um but we have been following Girt ever since the very beginning she was a young girl who whisked off to fairy land where she was supposed to have a magical Adventure where all she had to do was find a key that led to a magical door that would take her back home usually takes the average kid one day of just fun and Adventure but ger not so much and so she ended up in Fairyland for about 40 years stuck in the body of a seven-year-old it was awful it was terrible and everybody in Fairyland hates her uh GT is back in Fairyland and in this Arc she's actually been fighting her long-term Nemesis uh Queen cloudia who has just played every role of villain towards skt's hero in every shape and form well now in this issue Claudia Claudia has found herself in the human world and she's so happy because at least in the human world there is no Girt I don't want to showcase anything that will give you too many spoilers at the end so I'm going to FL back to the beginning a little bit uh she's happy to be free of Girt but everywhere she turns uh there is danger she is not used to and so we are going to see uh if Claudia makes it and if Gert can ever get back out of Fairyland because this girl has no luck making through this world uh it's honestly and truthly it's hilarious if you are somebody who likes things like uh you know even Rick and Morty or Deadpool or anything like that like I hate Fairy Land is a fun one to jump on to and it's Scotty young writing it so it still has all of the heart um a legacy of violence Issue 11 from Mad k um the hearts that you see in this are definitely different than the ones you get from I hate Fairy Land um because this is very very violent uh unelected surgery level of violence but this is all about a guy who was as a surgeon and finds out about a place called Unit 731 and some unelected surgeries that are happening there he ends up joining a doctor's without braders program to try to find more information and is now sucked into an ongoing situation that he is more related to than he ever thought possible and as each issue goes on he's starting to finally get memories coming back to him and in this issue we actually saw a a lot of those memories return to him which is the first time we've learned anything about his past and his connection to uh what is going on in 7:31 and it is it is dark and gruesome and I really don't think anybody is going to make it out alive honestly from this book so uh tin issues in it only gets darker with every issue you go we're going to see how far down this Rabbit Hole colen bun can take us the oddly pedestrian life of Christopher chaos Issue 7 from Dark Horse This is actually a weird thing to say but this is a great jumping in point um issues seven and eight are going to be a two-part little miniseries so if you didn't read Christopher chaos yet honestly seven and eight will be an interesting like a good place to start uh because Christopher chaos is the story of a bunch of teenagers who have all of the powers related to Universal monsters and they are going up against a secret society that uh they are not prepared to go up against and in the first volume the the first Arc of the story the person protecting them and helping them out is Adam Frankenstein which is supposed to be the creature uh that Victor created this is actually the story of the creation of the monster in a different way than we've seen it because instead of us actually getting the story from the creatures point of view we're actually getting the creature remembering bedtime stories that Victor told him about how Victor got to the point of wanting to create the creature and the romances and connections he made along his way and so this is actually uh the story of Victor Frankenstein and as it relates to to his creature and so it's really fun um I know a lot of people say oh I didn't know James tan was writing this book uh James tan is the person who came up with the idea and Tate bonell who does the house of Slaughter books is is actually the writer on this so that is it's it is a tiny onion production though so if you just saw that announcement this week they have expanded tiny onion to be a full production company that's going to be working on books still with all the different Publishers but it's going to be working to also build more creators and uh provide more rights for creators and stuff that work through them and also hopefully uh sell some movie rights and things for them so we'll see where James tan can take all of that uh the Hollywood special IDW uh this is issue six and this is part of their dark spaces line uh which is Scott Snider's imprint telling us all about dark places around the world and the things people doing them and the Hollywood special actually refers to a train in the 1940s and on that train is an actor and a Barnstormer who are uh who plays The Barnstormer really in the movies but they're uh on this train to sell victory bonds and trying to get people you know proar kind of efforts and so in the process they stop in a coal mining town very much like Silent Hill and nobody is there except for one young girl and she's like oh everybody got trapped in the mine well they end up going to try to help the people in the mine and unleash a a dark monstrous creature that basically starts praying on all of their darkest deepest secrets and our main woman has a lot uh she abandoned her family essentially to become an actress and has never really explored that with the world and now this creature is making her relive some of her darkest uh most terrifying experiences and this issue is the climax up all of it so you're going to get a lot of action in this issue because we are going to see that that really overtaking of her versus the monster and her versus the pit that she's fallen into but you are going to see just how much that Darkness can entangle inside of us as you read that issue um which is super cool Kill Your Darlings issue six from Image Comics and KLC press otherwise known as kids love chains it is Ryan stegman's imprint um for for Image Comics this is the story of a young girl named Rose who has the ability to go into her own imaginary world and in that world she is the princess and she has been controlling like the growth of the animals and the people and all these different things well in issue one she is having a she is having a great day in that world and something dark and mysterious comes and in her battling with that she ends up actually destroying a lot in the real world and so she ends up in a a home where they are helping her with her her mental illness well uh when she reaches her teenage years a bunch of people from her imaginary world a bunch of our creatures come and say it is time to return we need your help everybody is dying you're the only one who can save us and now Rose has returned back to try to save her imaginary friends who may not be imaginary after all but it's not not going well uh in any shape or form and so we are coming to what will definitely be the end of this Arc if not the end of the series I would imagine we're going to get more than one Arc out of this for sure uh because again I don't think that Rose is going to win anytime soon and especially like after this issue it is it is not looking good for her and her imaginary friends so uh like maybe we need to all clap like we believe in fairies to give them extra power but uh man uh gen genis 2 Origins this is issue five of Genesis 2 from gen 7 Comics uh and this is the origin story of our character of one of our characters so um in Genesis 2 we've been following the story of of a man and a woman who uh were both scientists and one of them created a a science a experiment essentially that can read every person's thermal layout themselves like each person has a thermal signature the Heat Signature that they give off and she can read all of them and so they use it to start tracking people and she doesn't want it to fall into the wrong hands she ends up sending it to her former childhood best friend who has been creating these animals that can uh are all Blended animals kind of like we see in like Avatar and stuff and they work as additional buddies for people and bodyguards essentially well in the last issue Genesis 2 uh Issue 4 we kind of saw the end of that first big battle and where that was going to go and so now we're actually learning the connection between these two and how they grew up and so we start out with the story of of the two kids and see the connection points that they have see how they grew up together see all of their uh relationship and then we see something happen to one of them and just how that kind of leads them down the path of the science that they end up doing and and how they end up connected together and so um this Lees us on a little bit of a cliffhanger for additional points to the origin story uh and how it's going to connect us back to not only what was going on before but what may be leading us to what's going to happen in the future and I'm really excited to see that we're going to get some more from this because I love uh people trying to fight for the protection of you know human rights in the environment and I think that this story this origin story just gave us so much character growth and development for these two people that I'm really excited to see that relationship grow because the the first four issues were kind of just like all of the action of like what we're going to do kind of like you start your first chapter of a novel a lot of times and it's just like right in the middle of the story and you want to you're like oh I can't wait to learn more about these people well this is your backstory for those people and you're going to get to know them a little bit more prus and chains issue five from Red five Comics this has been quite a delay on this uh so I'm glad to see that it is still coming out we've got one more issue after this and so I'm excited uh but this is what if Victor Frankenstein and Elizabeth Frank enstein were both scientists who went to work on uh the development of the atom bomb during World War II and so they are here and they're working on experiments and in the process something happens to Elizabeth and essentially Victor Frankenstein decides to uh Victor freeze it and he kind of puts her in a cryotube while he tries to figure out how to save her and then he realizes the Frankenstein story so we get a little bit of um a little bit of that mix into this except the thing is is that uh it did not work and that little bits of Rage that we see in the actual Frankenstein story are much much worse than this in this story and yet at the same time you're constantly wondering what is what is real and what is fake because Victor seems to be losing his mind and so it could actually be that nothing ever happened when this gets to the end of the next issue and uh it could be that she is actually out there there being a crazy creature that is is running a muuk we're going to find out when we read this last issue together but Victor is definitely lost it one way or another so uh it's a nice retelling of Frankenstein I almost said that it's like a modern Pria story but that's literally the tagline of Frankenstein so that joke was only funny to me um Transformers issue five from image and the skybound imprint this is a part of your inner John universe and uh if you are not reading it and you are a fan of Transformers and GI Joe go to a store and just buy everything connected to it right now because apparently this is uh the time to be a Transformers GI Joe fan it is actually a time to just be a fan of 80s cartoons because cender cats was huge last week too um and things are just going to keep coming your way uh if you haven't been reading Transformers basically uh the Autobots and Decepticons as usual wake up on the earth and find out that they are uh here and they need to protect the humans but they Al or kill the humans but they mostly just need to fight each other um this time though the Decepticons actually get all of the energy first and so all of the Decepticons that we have seen so far were able to power up quickly and all of the uh Autobots are kind of just trying to pull themselves together really quickly and they are not uh doing so well and in this issue they finally are like oh maybe we can bring some more of us back we can get this fight going and we get to see a couple more of our favorite Transformers come to life uh Daniel Warren Johnson is really just having the ultimate fun with this this is a person who admittedly was a huge Transformers fan his whole life and you can see it on every single page um especially when you get to the end of this issue where more things come to light that I'm not going to tell you because you have to read it because the best thing about the iner John universe so far is that every issue ends with a major cliffhanger to get you excited it's like watching a cartoon where you're like no I have to wait for next week's episode yes yes you do every time they are mastering that right now this has just become kind of a a master class in Cliffhangers in this inner John Universe um up next we have Alice Cooper issue five from Dynamite comics and this uh in theory is the wrapup of this story maybe just this Arc I know this is the second volume of Alice Cooper story um but in this story Alice Cooper has been going head-to-head with the devil who is mad that he with all of his musical skills is not the most preferred musical act to ever go across time people like heavy metal uh and all of these bands way more than him and he is mad about it so he has been taking out all of these classic rock like Gods essentially and all of the people and an angel comes to Alice Cooper and is like the devil's going to come for you too we have got to give you some tools to fight here's a guitar that can stop the devil and and demons and you need to challenge him and so Alice Cooper challenges him to go head-to-head Devil Went Down to Georgia style and uh they go the battle finally comes to us in this issue and you're going to find out who wins and what that actually means to anybody like the battle like the terms are not really that high stakes but like the devil's just being pretty pretty cocky about whether or not he's the best uh Abbot 1979 Issue four from boom Studios um this is volume three I think of the Abbott story so if you have not read the other ones you are going to be lost I will tell you that but Abbot is the story of a woman in in the 70s she is a a reporter a journalist but she is also the person who has all of the power of the light inside of her and she is battling against uh the Umbra which is essentially demon darkness that is coming to take over the world and she's gotten at this point she's aged quite a bit she's kind of over it she doesn't really want to fight anymore and she because of that she can't really tap into the light which means that the darkness is getting stronger and so a lot of characters that we've seen in the past issues a lot of things that have connected to her over the course of the different volumes are coming back to kind of help her find that power again and believe in herself because she is going to have to face the Umbra uh head on and when she thinks that she has it mastered she's going to find out that there is way more to this Darkness than she was ever prepared for and uh it's going to be a crazy uh a crazy thing and a hard thing for her to face when we get to this next issue for sure um I'm going to take another drink really fast cuz we've gone through like 20 books it's time for a drink and again we're drinking uh the small Beck it's Uka Valley it is an Aldi specialty select specially selected it's it's it's very good it's very again it's very easy to drink um it has that nice little floral taste to it all right up next we've got the sire Issue 4 from dren Productions this is a crossover for another uh with another character and so this was kind of fun cuz I had no idea um I didn't really know the phaser from the phaser universe but I love that they did this on the very first page they gave you everything that's been happening so far with The Sire and who he is and then they give you all the information about who the phaser is and what that is about and so at the end of the last issue we saw The Sire um get sucked into this weird like dimensional portal thing and it pulled him out and he ended up in the middle of this war and he's like I why am I here but the sire's power is basically that his suit comes to life and makes him fight people who have powers to determine whether or not they're worthy to actually have those powers and if they're not worthy the suit takes the powers from them and if it doesn't then uh they can keep them well his suit won't stop it won't release anything from this phaser guy that he comes into contact with and so he's like I have to keep fighting you because that's what my suit requires well the phaser power is that he suddenly slips in and out of time but he doesn't know how to control it so as they're fighting they just kind of keep getting sucked through different points in time and The Sire is like where are we going what is the point what is happening he's like I don't know and he's like I I just told you I can't control my power I don't know why it does this I don't know what the point is and so they just keep fighting and like everybody else is like should we how do we figure out how to help them and so we actually see that uh The Sire and the phaser people trying to figure out back in their home times and and spaces uh how to save them but nobody really knows what's going on so it actually was just kind of the funniest crossover I've ever read because nobody knew who the other characters were and nobody knew what the other character did and they're like we don't really know what we're supposed to do so like let's just keep punching each other and then they're like this is stupid why are we doing this and it's like I don't know I think we're supposed to and so it almost kind of like felt like a parody of crossovers at the same time was great um impath Issue four from blackbox Comics uh this is the story of a man who has the the power to absorb other people's feelings and then use that power from those feelings to uh fight back and so in in this series so far we know that his sister has been in the hospital and she hasn't been doing well and it's really really hard for him and he's aranged from his mom who is the only parent that he has who's kind of his stepmom I believe um in this so he's been fighting against all these people and kind of taking down uh essentially a sex trafficking ring well he ends up in this issue finally asking the doctor that's been taking care of his sister out on a date only to find out that much like he always fears when going on dates with people that everybody's got a secret and the secret that she has is just way more than he bargained for taking on and so we see a big big turn in this series for him and he's going to have to deal with some major stuff coming up in the next issue and I uh I always feel bad cuz I'm like the people whose superpowers to like absorb other people's emotions I'm like that's that's a lot for a superpower especially when you can see like what they're hiding uh beorn Issue four from Red five again something that's been delayed for a long time I'm so excited to finally have this issue because I think this series is so adorable uh this is all about the littlest Viking who wanders off into the woods one day and discovers kind of the smallest Troll and from what they've been told trolls are supposed to eat people and what trolls have been told they're supposed to eat people and this little troll is a vegan so he's very against the idea of eating humans so they kind of just become friends and in the process of it they end up upsetting some ogres and they've been on the run ever since trying to get away from these ogres and this issue they kind of figure out how to do it and it's just the cutest thing where they like the cutest most hilarious Story of Friendship because you know the even the beor and he's like oh I've got this great plan on how we can stop this and he's like how are we going to do it he's like okay so I read in a comic book and he's like I don't trust anything that people read in comic books and so it's just like cute little meta jokes on top of the fact that they're trolls and old ogres and uh the way that they saved themselves is just absolutely uh adorable and I can't wait to see more Adventures from these two because they are on my list of the cutest best friends pairs ever at this point um we need more but it feels has a very uh Dennis the Min kind of uh Smurfs Kind Of Orcs kind of all that kind of stuff mixed together just this happy like a Misadventures something you might see even in like peanuts kind of level of cuteness uh petrol head Issue four from Image Comics uh this is a book that I will constantly say doesn't have the right to be as good as it is and yet it is and I love it and it makes me so happy and I literally tell everybody that comes in like just open it up and you're going to fall in love with it and they do uh this is the story of a future where we are living in bubbles and robots are running everything and we've gotten to the point where we already had robot races kind of like pod racing and now we're already past that and those robots have been retired well a man figures out that there is a corruption in the system and he is trying to save everybody from the you know ruling party that is mistreating people and is lying to everybody and he ends up stealing the stuff that can save everybody and running off with his daughter and the only person that can save them from everybody who's chasing after them is in fact a retired racing robot who absolutely does not have any desire to be a part of this but he can't say no at the same time CU now he's all roped into it and so they are on an adventure of the lifetime and it's you've got the Rope you've got the robot's birge you've got the robot's little AI That's supposed to lead him you've got the girl you've got her dad it's a rag tag team of people that you just can't help but care about like I invest in everybody and every character they meet along the way I'm instantly like yes I love you too where are we going what are we going to do or oh man that's a bad guy let's defeat them it is absolutely a great adventure so much fun so much heart already in this story and just a bright colors absolutely a great time if you're not reading petrol head add it to your list immediately and enjoy all right we have this is one of my books that a lot of them came out we have the Miracles Issue 4 from C publishing and the last time I talked about this book it was for issue one so I'm going to tell you that issues two three and four all dropped at the same time so there was a a uh there was a publishing there was a publishing delay with these so they all dropped this week um and I'm so I'm so happy that they did because I uh I'm so glad that I got to read issues 2 three and four all at one time because the Cliffhangers in each of these would have made me mad if I would have had to wait so I'm glad that I didn't have to um but if you haven't read the Miracles at all yet that's understandable because up until this point only issue one had dropped and you may not have heard of it so uh the mar Miracles is about a family and they're all super power like the parents are superpowered but the kids didn't know and in issue one one of the kids who's a teenage like like a 18 19 year old boy uh he gets superpowers and he kind of becomes what they call the miracle I almost don't want to show you Issue four because I don't want to spoil too much um but he has become what they call the miracle and he's become a superhero and he's learned not everybody in his family is a superhero and he's been hiding some different different things about himself um from the world I'm really trying to find the non-spoiler parts uh from the world around him like just that is about him personally not the superhero so taking on a superhero personality and hiding that from his friends is kind of no different to him than what he's been hiding from everybody else in his life this book says so much when we talk about how superhero stories are always charged and they have these beautiful like political messages and like these beautiful stories of family and these beautiful stories of personal growth and these beautiful stories of just connection this is what we're talking about like this has the feeling of all of those things and it goes into it in so many different ways and I'm going to actually flip this and show it again because this page you're supposed to rotate he's trapped in it like he's trapped in his own mind essentially and just can't figure out how to get out and that's part of his mom's power is to be able to go into that kind of situation and so instead of going into people's minds and blocking them from their powers his mother goes into his mind to help him tap into them and not only the power that he has as a superhero but also the power that he has as himself and as a human and just to show him the acceptance that they they can give to each other for who they are and uh I cried at the end it was so it so good um so I'm glad it all dropped at one time because again I would have been really mad if I had to wait between issues two three and four so I know a lot of people are like oh that's too many at one time but you know what worth it grab all of them just grab one through four at one time and just call it good I've never seen um I I haven't ever ordered maybe I don't know if they even have trade paperbacks or hard cover collections for uh CX publishing yet so that said you should just grab issues 1 through four and make your own and just read it all at one time uh faceless in the f family Issue four from Oni press uh I thought this was going to be the end I'm happy that it's not I'm happy that we're going to get to see more from this series as it continues to go on uh because I'm starting to really enjoy every single one of these characters and the Little Adventures that they have each issue um but if you don't know the story faceless is a guy who has been wearing a pipe tube on his head essentially as he makes his way through this world because he is going up to a place where he is GL have surgery to change his face and he's not ever shown anybody his face in the whole story he doesn't want anybody to know what he looks like he's in hiding but he doesn't tell the reader or the the people that he's traveling with and each person he meets along the way just kind of immediately becomes a part of his family and they each work to protect the other and so we get little bits and pieces of people's backstories as something happens that they need help protecting them from and they just build a family out of that and I kind of like it initially you know I was having conversations with some people and they were like I don't really know if I like this story because they don't really there's no reason for these people to become a family there's no reason for them to connect they don't even really say share their stories or anything and I thought about it and I kind of think I like that more because how many times do you build a connection with somebody just bonding over the experiences you have and you don't necessarily have to tell somebody everything that you've ever been through you just kind of B over those shared life experiences and you build that family from there and so it's like I kind of I kind of like that but in the last issue faceless did finally get a new face and we didn't really get to see it but we do know that it's not really working for him any more than the one before and he's starting to learn some lessons about himself and about what he needs to do um this book is it's it's just really cool you should come check it out and look at I it kind of feels like taking an art history class too though to look at all the different ways that they move the art and the characters through the paneling and the pages and like the lack of paneling on the pages and the way it's just kind of the motion of the characters uh it's it's really cool uh the Deviant Issue four from Image Comics uh this this issue brought some more intensity to this new James tan story uh if you haven't read this this is all about uh a guy who is writing a comic book that's supposed to be a biograph graphical comic book that is about a serial killer who was maybe wrongfully accused back in the 70s for a crime that was a holiday murder like major slasher that kind of happened through a gimbals and this guy is is is now uh going to interview him because he's like I'm going to WR a comic book about this but I don't want to write a comic necessarily about your story I want to write a comic that takes your story and evaluates how I feel it connects to me and how it might connect to other people not because of your experiences as a serial killer but because of the way you treated because of who you are as a person and so he starts trying to put all this together well meanwhile back home while that is going on uh an investigator is actually investigating him our comic book writer for possibly being connected to a new string of murders that is coming and and things are getting intense uh for the people back home it's getting intense for him the story connection pieces we're starting to see like little bits and things that are like o should we trust our narator should we follow this guy are we in for this um James tanon is so good at stringing you along on like where is this going and who is who's trustworthy and who isn't and you're seeing that very strongly in this book um if you like serial killer murder mysteries uh this is definitely one to pick up and I feel like everybody right now likes True Crime and murder mystery so you should all be picking it up uh all right we've got blood commandment Issue four from Image Comics and the on man art uh this is Sim Simon censky who was one of our uh that was my my writer of last year um and had so many awards that we gave him for our bastic Awards and this is a four-part story that he just wrapped up up today and it is the story of a dad and a son who are living out in the woods trying to get away from the past that is haunting them and that past is uh I'm just going to tell you it's related to vampires because it's blood commandment it was that's I feel like that's not a spoiler um I thought it was cult murders I really thought it was cult murders too at the beginning um and it kind of is honestly like we watched the the lodge last night and after watching the and then reading this issue for of blood commandment I was like this is almost this so similar and how I feel about the way he told his vampire story um and tied it kind of into almost a cult-like religion um and that that was really exactly what it's going to say about this book it's like this guy is trying to get out he fell in love with a human he had a son he has moved away he's tried to find a place where he could be safe from all of that and uh you can't ever leave leave essentially the cult that you're in they will find you and they will draw you back in and in this issue as Simon kind of really parallels that with a lot of different things he parallels it with different types of relationships and different type of religious experiences and just Blends that vampire story into all of that and it's it's so well done uh as always but if you didn't read it again only for issues they're all out grab it um and and really it's I love it because it kind of just takes place in this one room like this Vampire comes for them in their Lodge that they have where they're hiding and it's literally just the conversation between those two people and trying to talk about like your past and how you can never really get away from it it was it's I love it it's great uh zawa in the belly of the Beast issue for from boom box you know this you know me this you know this is one of my favorite comics on the shelf right now um I absolutely love it it's gorgeous and every way shap or form um it is being written and drawn by the same artist who did win uh and this is the story of of three kids who are teenagers I guess I should say uh living in a place where they've been told that the guardian of the mountain isn't responsible for whether or not they have food and that the guardian is always trying to steal their food uh and they must feed the guardian first well it turns out that the mayor is actually uh making all of this up and he is stealing all the food and he has this Guardian chained up in the basement of the the tower and these kids have figured it out and they have now tried to return the guardian and bring her back to the world well what we thought was not true and what we are learning to be true are still kind of skewed and we're not really sure 100% what's going on even zawa is not really sure who she is and in this issue we learn a lot about zawa both as the guardian and as the Beast that could be the cause of all of our our problems uh yes I was like I think I put it on that page where it explains that uh it's it's so beautifully done we also learn that not every person that you believe in is the guardian that you want them to be like sometimes the people you believe to be the good ones who are there to protect you end up being the bad people and sometimes the people that you think um are the bad guys aren't maybe they're not as bad we're going to find that out like we find out the duality of humanity uh in L in connection with this this beast and guardian situation and it's so good um everybody should read it the bloody dozen issue three from Image Comics and this is a part of your shrouded College which is Charles Souls un Universe um if you were a fan of 8 billion Genies in the last year you know Charles Soul probably from that um you should be reading this He is building an entire universe that um is about a institution called the Ed College which is basically a place that will sell will buy your soul from you and give you everything you want in some capacity but then they will force you to do things that you don't want to do and in this story we are seeing three people who are from three different Generations a grandfather a mother and the granddaughter they are all adults and they have all made terrible decisions and none of them talk to each other anymore and so the shrouded college has come in and said we will heal all of you of all your ailments and all of your shortcomings we will put you back together but the catch is that you have to go to space and you have to uh go to this prison that we that was created years and years ago for some vampires and you have to deliver a message to them for us and they're like yeah whatever like we just we'll get our powers we don't need like our health our training we'll get everything and then we never have to speak to each other again well they get to space out by the Sun the best place for a prison for vampires I've ever seen in the history of all things I don't know why nobody else has put a prison full of vampires in front of the sun where they could never get away um except they get there and uh things aren't really actually going the way that they were supposed to bad things are happening um and I don't trust anything that shoted college says and the second half of this issue reminds you why you shouldn't either um I love Charles because he always puts so much legal jargon into his books and somehow it makes them more entertaining and so this once again proves that to be the case our bones dust issue three from image I have had three people today alone tell me how much they are loving this series so if you have not picked it up yet um you apparently need to because it's it's gaining in its popularity for sure um but this is the story of an apocalyptic world where it's everything's kind of destroyed and there's this one boy who is trying to just survive in it and everybody else is kind of cannibalistic and so this kid is is just trying to get through and everywhere he goes he kind of seems to have the ability to to get what he needs you know he sneaks in steals what he needs and gets away Well turns out this last time he didn't get away so cleanly and a bunch of the cannibals are chasing after him the coolest thing about this book is that there are these giant robots who are in this world and they're kind of just there supposedly to uh observe and report back on what is going on and nobody really knows specifically where they came from but one of the robots has decided he's taking a special interest in this boy and he wants to see him survive and so he's kind of becoming like a little fairy Godfather to this kid who's trying to survive and it's really interesting to see how the two of them are connecting and uh I kind of can't wait to see how it plays out cuz the other alien Bots like they almost are like War of the world's aliens they're like stay away from this like you need this kid you don't need to get involved we're not doing that and he's like I'm just I'm just observing but of course he's constantly like stepping in and uh this is going to go in some weird ways for sure but I just I I want to see where it's going to go and issue three and your twist as always the ending of this one definitely moves us in a completely new direction for sure uh dead detective issue three from black uh from blackbox Comics uh this is about a guy who is a detective and he is trying to investigate something and ends up chasing after like what is he thinks is like a cult situation chasing after it let me make sure this is okay uh chasing after them into this like Cemetery he ends up going down a staircase and when he comes like up a different staircase he is in a like a parallel universe essentially purgatory and he's doesn't think he's dead because he doesn't remember dying but here he is in this world with all these dead people and he finds out that his old partner is there and his partner is kind of kind of sleazy like I'm not really sure that his partner is the good person that he wants to believe he is and so he is helping him investigate some stuff in the last issue uh a Demon Lord came after the partner and some bad stuff happened and they had to save his life and put him back his afterlife put him back together essentially and so now they're back on this investigation and we are finding out that we are not the only people that don't necessarily trust the partner and some of the people in Internal Affairs essentially of the Dead detective agency are coming after him I still want to find out if our lead character is actually dead or if he and he doesn't remember dying or if he if he is going to be able to find his way back to the regular World we're going to keep go I'm going to keep going because I got to know um but also I just want to know if this partner is as corrupt and like what can you be corrupt on when you're already in like essentially hell we're going to find out Dying Days issue three from Red five red five seems to have gotten past whatever their printing delays were so I'm really excited to see um this is all about a world where we have started aging rapidly so people are being born and they're middle-aged in like a matter of like a year or two they're already aging up so that and people are dying really quickly and so in uh this world there is a woman who is trying to essentially figure out the Cure well she figures it out except the government doesn't want to give it to people because they want to control it and they want to be able to use it however they want well her son who has aged up very quickly has become somebody who is an activist who is fighting against it and so now they're kind of on these opposing sides and she's like I could take this cure and give it to everybody and I could save the world and they're like you could but if you do that we're going to destroy your son and she's like well if I don't give the cure to everybody my son's going to die anyway so what's the right thing to do we're going to find out an issue for what choice she makes um but you know when you got the secure what are you going to do assassins appr princess volume two issue three from Dark Horse uh yes you do have to read volume one before you read volume two don't just jump in because it picks up literally on like the very next day um this is the story of a young boy who is born out of woodlock for a prince who is supposed to be like the next in line for the throne and supposed to be the greatest Prince and all these things and now of course nobody trusts him because he has this kid and so he the prince leaves but the boy is brought to the Palace to be raised as an assassin and they find out that the boy kind of has the same gift that a lot of people in the family have that where he can kind of read the minds of things around him but for the boy he reads the minds of animals around him and that has actually seemed to help get him connections with all the different places and so he's being raised out of the palace uh on the grounds with like the the animal keeper and the the Assassin that they have and so he's being trained in both grounds keeping and assassin training at the same time he's kind of been sent off as an uh Ambassador Apprentice essentially with all these people well in this issue a woman arrives at the palace who is very offended by the fact that this young boy has not been trained in the noble ways considering he is the Son Of The Prince and she is determined to make sure that that changes and who this woman is and what her connections are to him are going to be very important to whether or not that actually happens and I'm really excited I love this story so the a lot of times the stories with the knights and a lot of the like almost leaning into the night language they don't go too far into it but there are times where it kind of gets into some of that heavy night language I don't usually enjoy those I really enjoy this book every time I read it like it is one of those that I'm like yes I cannot wait to have see what happens like I want to know like because he's so adamant that he doesn't want to kill but they're like you're going to be an assassin and he's like no I'm not but I'll get you your information and he's just like this good kid who's stuck in all of the like politics and drama of being in uh the royal family but not being in the royal family I I very much enjoy it and if you a fan of Game of Thrones you'd probably uh or anything in that level you'd probably love it and if you're somebody who's like I don't want to go that far but I kind of like that it's it doesn't go that far there's not 20 pages on what's on a table ever in it so you don't have to it's kind of like reading a script for a show instead of reading the the novel where you have to read the description of the table for 20 Pages um up next we've got Masterpiece issue three from Darkhorse Comics this is Brian Michael Bend's newest story with Darkhorse uh this is all about a young girl who finds out that essentially she is kind of the key to saving the world from and is secretly part of like a spy family that she didn't have any clue that she was a part of and so she kind of needs to stop two epic bad guys one female uh who actually comes to her this time and one male who she goes to and she is determined to stop them she's building her own team she's got you know the the guys who have been around for a long time she's got the person who's supposed to protect her and now she's building kind of her team of teenagers and she's going to also go after them with all the people that she trusts to be on her side uh you're you're just getting classic spy Thriller from Brian Michael bendz um you know that's one of the worlds that he's built out a long time from all his different stuff very similar to his Jinx and all of those Scarlet things like that from the past so uh the ministry of compliance issue three from IDW another book that I'm really excited about uh right now this is the story of a world where uh we're in America and here on our earth except for the fact that aliens have actually invaded but they did it silently and by being a part of everything in our world they've like invaded business they've invaded the government they've done all these different things and they've been secretly living here waiting to make their move well when they were supposed to actually make their move something happened back on their home planet and they've lost all Communications with them and all of their governmental Direction has just gone out the window well they've built their own like they have their own Ministry organizations kind of like the British Parliament system does and so the ministry of compliance is the woman who is in charge of making sure that everybody stays in line with what the objective is and if you get out of the objective she kills you well with nobody else to be in charge of what's going on she is actively very very busy right now trying to make sure that nobody loses sight of it interesting thing though is that they have invaded so much into our planet that they now have what the aliens consider biracial people which are people who are half alien and half human and they are trying to uh start a war essentially uh with the aliens because they you know they're not being accepted by the alien people they're not being accepted by the human people and so where do these people fall they are trying to figure that out and if they have to take down the aliens themselves they're going to do it it's it just gets deeper and more exciting every Adventure uh up next we have dear issue to from Mad cave I love this book so much um this is the story of Bucky who is an investigative reporter and a deer and he is the only uh the only anthropomorphic animal in this entire series which I love and I hope that we never explain why I hope we just keep going like that's just a normal thing for some one random person to be a deer but in issue one Bucky is investigating a story and it ends up leading him down a very dark hole that gets him caught and possibly killed we don't really know uh because issue two picks up with Bucky's assistant months later actually taking on the same story that Bucky was doing and trying to figure out how to uh provide the information I can go this page uh provide the information for what Bucky is actually um supposed to be solving and trying to figure out what happened to Bucky and everything and then we do actually get to go back three months so we figure out that it was exactly 3 months from uh the original situation we figure out what happened with Bucky and where he is at and three months ago and so we're going to see if those stories kind of cross paths as this issue goes on and into the next issue um and whether or not Bucky or Bucky's assistant or anybody at this newspaper is ever going to be able to figure it out and we do get some big big big information in the second half of this issue which is why I'm not going to show it to you uh it it changed the whole thing so you definitely got to read it super Scouts issue two from CeX publishing dropped this week and you're probably like but Shannon I've never heard of super Scouts don't worry that's because the sh want also Dro this week um this book is hilariously fantastic um in so many different ways so they're oversized issues which is really cool um but I'm going to show you I guess I'll show you issue one just so I'm not spoiling anything uh but issues one and two are out but um super Scouts is essentially about uh the the Power Rangers uh the actors from the Power Rangers essentially being called back together now like they these are people who were on a show called super Scouts which was 100% just Power Rangers and they have gone on to all the different directions that they've gone into over the course of time and and now essentially the 30 years later in the same way that it's been since the original Power Rangers they're being called back by the person who they believe to be the director of their show only to find out that none of the stuff was ever fake it was fake for them they were on a show but the guy was actually really from a group of super Scouts and he was trying to protect the Earth and he was hiding in plain sight by basically training people to become super Scouts by making the stories of his life into a TV show and so now he's brought these people to this special Island and he's like you basically have to take on uh actually being super Scouts and you have to fight the bad guy in the same way that you would have in the show because if you don't he's going to destroy the Earth and they're like this cannot be real and so now these you know 40s something year old people who were uh big celebrities when they were teenagers on on a show much like Power Rangers are suddenly supposed to become actual Power Rangers and I mean literally we're not even hiding it the costumes look exactly the same they make the jokes about the different like types of Power Rangers they had they fight clay monsters and they even talk about them being like made of clay and then like the bad guy looks like it like nothing in this honestly if you even know the actors and what they're doing now it's actually really not that different so this was great because I've like I I didn't watch I watched Power Rangers a little when I was a kid with my little brother but uh I also have seen all of the actors at the conventions ever since then and so it was actually just kind of funny to like imagine those people that I've met over the years at conventions suddenly finding out that none of it was fake and they have to actually become uh real life Power Rangers like I was like that would actually be really cool to see all these people that I've met and interacted with suddenly like oh my God what do you mean it wasn't wasn't fake so it actually made it so much fun but if you are a Power Rangers Fan you definitely need to read super Scouts cuz you're going to love having that Nostalgia brought back uh in a new way Boris Carlo gold key Mysteries issue to from gold key Comics uh this is for all of you um gold key comic fans all of you horror fans this is just a a great little Anthology series of different stories and the first one in here is called warehouse and it's done by Michael Conrad and it is the story of Boris garlo uh throughout his life and a mysterious house that seems to just kind of appear and these witchy women who are inside of it and he kind of just keeps going through like making these connections with these people uh the only one who can see the house really and he always goes into it and he has these different experiences over time and we just kind of see how that how that plays out and what his connection is to it um and where that leads him and that story is actually kind of long so they do that story and they leave it on a cliffhanger with a to be continued later in the book and then they have a different story and then it comes back to that original story again so you jump into a different story that's uh about a trench and the the war and just some some blood and guts and gooiness that comes out of that uh situation and then we have another story in there that's uh about some some creepy stuff where somebody can kind of see through everybody's eyes and it's this woman and she wants to get out and the person's like well you can't and they're like she's like I'm going to figure out how to get out of this place you can't keep me prisoner here forever she's kind of the only one that's not being mind controlled and so it's the story of her breakout and trying to uh figure out the secrets to getting through there and then like I said we wrap up with a little bit bit more of the warehouse story as we reach um the future and Boris being older and his final days kind of thing and seeing that house again uh so just fun kind of has that uh classic Horror Story feel like the things you would have gotten from a gold key board Carlo book back in the day Rebel Moon issue two from Titan Comics this is the story of the the adaptation of the Zack Snider film that recently came on on Netflix so if you saw that um there is an official novelization and then this is kind of the comic adaptation to go with that um I have not seen the movie so I don't know how in line like I don't know if it's a prequel or if it's uh the same exact time frame but uh if you haven't seen it you can still read this book because again I haven't I have not seen it and we are following a brother and sister specifically who are very opposites in this royal family family one of them wants to kind of stand with the people and do what what he thinks is right by the people and the other one is like no we have to protect our Legacy and who we are and we need to trust our father to do just that because their mother has been the ruler of this world and she has recently uh been killed and something has also happened at the the ruling planet of this solar system essentially and so now there is war that is once again returning and they have to figure out are they going to join into the war are they going to let they are are they going to do what the ruling planets are telling them and what or they going to stand with this rebellion and where are they going to fall in that and uh it's interesting to see how these two kids stories are going to play out for them and and where they're going to fall and it does kind of you know I I've heard a lot of the reviews of the movie say it's like Zack Snider really wanted to make a Star Wars film and this was kind of his personal version of it it does have that high level of sci-fi fantasy like s SC fantasy I guess is what they're calling science fantasy uh feeling to it it is and it is very epic so if you um again if you didn't see Rebel Moon and you just want to jump in I think you can enjoy it but if you did see Rebel Moon you should probably definitely jump in all right uh we've got Creep Show this is a oneshot special of Joe Hills Wolverton station uh so this is the The Joe Hill short story adapted into uh this graphic novel or a comic book form it's just one issue um and this is usually in Creep Show we get multiple issue multiple stories in the story in the book this is the only one that you get is this wolver wolverson station and I absolutely love this story this is about a guy who is like oh I collect all the rarest objects in the world they're usually horror movie props and things like that weird things from around the world and when people come to him he rips them off like they'll be like oh this is worth $5,000 he was like I'll give You2 200 because it's not really worth that I don't know where you found that information and he just totally rips people off in all of the worst ways and they're like but I need this money and you said on the phone that you would give me $1,000 and he's like yeah well that was before I saw it no I'm not going to give you that take it or leave it and so he gets a phone call from a man who's like hey I have the one item that you've never been able to find that you've always wanted but you have to come to Wolverton station to get it and he's like well don't sell it to anybody else I want it I always win I get what I want so he gets on the train to go to Wolverton station and we find out I'm going to show you this that uh that means more than one thing in in Joe Hill's world because this is actually Wolverton station and in there are a lot of wolves around and this man is going to learn very quickly that he is not the only one who always gets what he wants and things don't necessarily go his way and I absolutely love everything that Joe Hill had to say in this issue it was so great um uh yeah it was a fantastic don't be greedy learn your lesson Creep Show as Creep Show always does it it you know teaches us a great lesson in the most violently horrific way possible uh Dutch issue one from Image Comics this is the bringing back of a character from The 9s named Dutch uh from Joe Casey is bringing him back and this is essentially of your classic old guy retired out of the game gets drugg back in kind of story so Dutch is uh got some bionic Parts some cybernetics in him from all of his time when he was working with the the government as a secret agent kind of thing and superhero so to speak and now he has just recently there was a zero issue where he got attacked and so in this issue he comes in recalls that he's being attacked and working with a woman in the government like he's like breaks in essentially to the Pentagon and is like I'm coming here to give you all the information and he finds out that an old Ally is now running it and she's kind of become very bureaucratic and he's like look are you going to do something about the situation that's going on or not and she's like we're already well aware of the situation and we've got it under under control and he's like so basically you know that this bad thing is happening and you're not going to do anything and she's like don't worry about it Dutch but of course Dutch is going to worry about it and he's going to fight against it if he has to on his own I'm sure we'll see a team up coming somewhere soon in there but Surly uh old man who doesn't want to have to be back into the Spy World back into the Spy World doing his thing Biden's Titans versus AOC issue one from Keen spot so uh if you haven't been following along with Biden's Titans we haven't had one in about a year but in the last issue of Biden's Titans uh Biden's Titans AOC was bring brainwashed by Elon Musk to marry him and became a bad guy against the Biden's Titans and so now she is they have come to try to save her and the only way they can do that is by traveling to the past with young Bernie future Bernie Sanders who's actually young Bernie Sanders taking them all back to a 2019 to uh to get AOC when she was still young and optimistic and try to get her to come speak to herself about how she could save the day and the work that they could do together uh this is a gigantic parody it makes fun of everybody on every side of the fence so uh you're it's a laugh a minute um it's utterly ridiculous and uh yeah they kingbot has been doing these uh political books for uh like since 2016 honestly at least uh and they kind of it started with uh we had trumps Titans and we are going to see The Return of them uh very soon because it is they they're very big in election years Keen spot puts out a lot of these to kind of just do parodies of all the people running and all the candidates and all the issues and stuff so it's kind of like watching Saturday Night Live if you uh but in comic form the displaced issue one from boom Studios um this was a book that I could not remember what it was about when I when I got in it in and I was like o is this going to be more aliens is this going to be like a weird kind of strange thing like that and it starts with a bunch of people in a bar and they're talking about this guy that like nobody can remember uh who he is they're like oh well in high school we called him this and they like start making fun of him they're like but we can't remember his real name and then they're like What's his name and they're like we don't remember either and then it goes to like a woman and her uh husband who are you know they have a baby and the baby wakes up in the middle of the night and he's like don't worry I've got it and then he realizes he didn't go get diaper ERS we just kind of see all these people just having everyday situations and kind of dealing with stuff and then one of the guys gets a phone call that's like hey your dad's in trouble he had a stroke you need to come to the hospital and while he's on his way to do that he runs into this man who was burning a bus in the middle of the street and he's like what is going on and then while all these people are on all these different places we have an earthquake happen and a giant sinkhole opens up and we find out that like the whole city is just being swallowed by this giant sinkhole and there is this mysterious circumstance that just kind of keeps happening where everything uh is disappearing in all these different places and nobody remembers it happening and certain people are left and they're like the only ones and we are going to get a really crazy weird story that's going to come out of this and I cannot wait to see where this goes uh but if I tell you anym it'll just spoil everything that happens in the issue so just grab it because it's this you want and you need to start on it now uh Blue Book returns this week with 1947 uh issue one from Darkhorse Comics so if you didn't read the first volume of blue book that does not matter uh though you should go back and read it essentially this is just James tan uh recapping the alien stories for uh the world and specifically American alien stories and how uh what are all the stories that have happened that are written down is accepted true and what are we supposed to do and so in this volume he goes back to 1947 with where we actually get the term flying saucer from the guy who a pilot who heard a radio broadcast that said hey there's these we stuff flying towards Mount reneer if anybody can get information on it you're going to get a reward so he's like hey I'm going to go check it out well gets there and is like uh I don't know what that was but they were round dis like situation I don't know what's happening ends up becoming a big thing he gets on all these radio shows they start hearing from other people who saw it all throughout the country all the people like who have ever seen anything like it before we start actually getting our first big reports of the potential of aliens in our society um and we get all these people like getting investigated and it actually goes down in record books and so it's like okay well so we're aliens did we see flying saucers or flying saers real um I love that there's literally no no commentary there's no future story there's no uh fictional work added in to tell you like oh and then everybody found the aliens and they existed it's like this is just Recaps like when you take these stories you can go back and actually pull uh the Wikipedia articles or the actual like Blue Book articles on these and see this is as far as the information goes is all that he includes in these stories which is really cool uh and then each issue always has a backup story that gives us something else that's just either um a supernatural like crypted kind of story and that's kind of this one feels a little more crypted than alien because it is about like somebody who was potentially murdered or was murdered by their their somebody on their job they were cook with a bunch of people in The Lumberjack country and they were murdered and and then suddenly like a creature starts coming out to to defend them and bad things happened to the people who attacked good people I guess is what this is trying to tell you but uh definitely feels more crypted than alien in that story for sure but uh the front stories are always really uh they all connect and they kind of just kind of tell us that story of that blue book experience so if you're a fan of aliens this is definitely like just getting the X Files uh we've got you and I issue one from AWA this is J Michael stasinski returning to the world of the resistance Universe uh we did hear that that was coming back and this is kind of the first time that they've mentioned any of that since then um we follow a guy who wakes up in a hospital and suddenly just finds himself like not feeling any pain when getting attacked by something and maybe being able to be the like being the only person that's alive and then it just switches to him seeing a woman who's being attacked by some uh guys who are Hitman for a a gangster and he sees them as these completely different things like he like sees these demons that he's got to fight and this woman who needs help and then you see that he has essentially superpowers like very matrixyl way to see that drawn in a comic book and again our first relapse back into that Superhero world that AWA is building back before uh back in early 2020 so if you didn't read it there was a a series called the resistance um that was all about a bunch of people who got a a virus during a pandemic and a bunch of them get sick and die and a bunch of them get sick and get better and those who for the most part did that got superpowers and it becomes a whole polarizing experience for uh the world and specifically America uh our second story where these two that ends up connecting with this one is about a girl who got the virus in in the pandemic and didn't actually get superpowers but because the government doesn't believe that people who survived and got better didn't get the superpowers and so she can't get a job she's on a list and her uncle got inherited all of her money from her dad who got the virus and died and won't give her any and so she's basically homeless on the street and these two paths are going to cross in this book and we are going to see um just exactly where that takes them the cabinet issue one from image comic this is a whole new adventure that's going to be very exciting uh it is about a young girl who is trained by her parents to use this magical cabinet and if you put things in certain order you can awaken like different kinds of magic and different kinds of experiences and she learns it all and it's like the most adorable thing because she's a child so she learns it with like words like where are you death mask shardy shardy Shard and things like that and like easy peasy I can put this together and she kind of remembers it all as a nursery rhyme well as that child she decides that she wants to go play with the box and hopefully build like bring about some wonderful magical thing for her to play with and instead awakens a great and terrible evil that is going to destroy all of the world and now she is a teenager we fast forward and she has to put everything back together again and she's still trying to figure out exactly how to do that and and she's on her own with the exception of of a boy that she has helping her who's kind of her muscle who literally carries her cabinet around everywhere she goes as they try to find the pieces that they need to put it all back because you have to put the little relics in the cabinet in a certain order and say the magic words in the way that you're supposed to do it uh it's it's quite fun and it's cute because again she only knows it as little nursery rhymes so while this like serious stuff is going on she's sitting there trying to like sing these nursery rhymes to herself to put it all together um we're going to see if she can save the world save her family save herself um and if she can put everything back together again in the cabinet divine power made me issue one from Scout Comics I had no idea what I was getting into with this book and it went darker than I expected at you very quickly um this starts with a young boy uh who wakes up essentially who's like going through this space type World it feels like and he's like I can make everything everything happen I can everything I believe suddenly becomes existence and I I want to see God and then he just sees this giant creature who he sees as his god um and then it switches to the present in an unfamiliar location and we have a new little boy and he's standing essentially at uh this massive gate for what feels like the afterworld feels like hell essentially and he's like where am I what's going on and this priest finds him and is like oh I'll Lead You In don't worry help you out and they get up to the front and these giant creatures like this owl is watching over them and these other like Wicked looking things and they're like we're going to test you with certain questions to see who you are and where you should go and uh we find out some some dark things about some people very quickly and we kind of see where this is going to lead these this kid and this adventure that he's going to go to and we see some things about him that are going to lead us um down a path path of may you know maybe a divine nature I'm really curious to see where this goes again I was like uh oh this is going to be like is this going to be a really like happy bright colored book when I open it up and then I was like no no it's not and I'm kind of in for that so uh check it out speaking in books that are not happy but are bright when you open them up uh seven years in darkness the Shamir worm this is kind of our Bridge point between year one and year two essentially for uh the seven years in darkness series from C ex publishing and this is Joseph schock's new book uh if you know Phantom Star Killer or we don't kill spiders or things like that um in this series we find a group of kids who have to go to a magical school that is very very dark and there are 72 families each one of them sends their kids to this school they spend seven years learning and training and if they don't survive a challenge they don't survive a challenge like it's like hey we're going to see which kids make it out alive and those are going to be the kids who have the magic and rule the power uh in this we are actually kind of just seeing a little bit of a connecting story for one of our characters from the the current series and he's kind of learned that there's some people who don't respect the 72 families and don't that want to harm the school and this kid is like I'm going to do something about it and he's using his power and that he's recently acquired but his trainer is like hey that's not what that power is for and we kind of have a we get a backstory of where that the Shamir worm came from and what it's supposed to be used for and and I love it because we actually end up just having the conversation how basically everything in Magic everything in witchcraft is just a tool and it's how you use that tool and what that what you do with it that actually determines what your magic uh effects will be and whether there's like good magic or bad Magic isn't really the point the point is that everything is a tool and you must use the Tool uh for the right reasons or not apparently uh if you find this I'm Already Dead Issue one from Dark Horse Comics and this is Matt Kent's newest one uh it's as you can see Prestige format uh a little bit bigger and this is the story of a woman who is a reporter who goes into like uh more Zone situations and she's kind of been to a bunch of places and she gets the opportunity to go to this alien planet where we have a stronghold where there's like a military base there but we only have this one city it's the only place people can be and she gets there and lands with the new group of troops that are coming in and immediately everybody is destroyed and the whole thing has been demolished she's like there's it's a war zone for sure they have no idea what's going on and she was supposed to write what it's like to live in space do this like happy story and now she is fighting for her life and so she ends up having to go through and learning that doesn't matter if you're alien or human on earth or under a alien planet you've never heard of before like classism and racism and uh failed politicians and you know misguided ways exist in everywhere and she is trying to recap all of that information while also trying to survive on her own as she makes it through this and as you can tell from the title if you read if you find this I'm already dead uh we're going to see if she makes that ey Al or if if she doesn't and this is something that is being played back later um before I keep going I'm going to take another drink because I'm thirsty all right all right you know what we're just going to call the fix of the week um uh mostly because I want people well oh wait no it starts with the next one okay never mind we have one more and then pixel the week sorry um uh all right so we've got infernal issue one from Image Comics so this uh is basically The Godfather but with the son of the devil um this is all about a guy who has found out that like who was born as the Antichrist and his time is coming to an end and they've told him that he essentially needs to find the person who is going to take over and he has three children who all kind of have the ability to do it if uh they got their lives together but none of them kind of have the complete stamina or the dedication or the uh the situation that they need to be put into to actually lead like the one kid that he's like well she might be a good job do a good job she's kind of kind of just too young uh so he calls them all back to his deathbed where he is going to figure out who is going to take over for him and is what is going to happen in the future and you know whether or not uh the devil is going to come and uh actually show up and help his son start this apocalypse that he is supposed to start or if it's just going to pass on to the next Generation so uh this is done by Ryan parrot who is known for rogue son and uh the Power Rangers and stuff but I love the way and Rog son he writes his parent like kid relationships and so I have a feeling we're going to start seeing how that's going to impact this story as it goes on as well all right now this is the orange one that's my pick of the week woohoo okay so uh up first it's actually issues one and two of tusers from C publishing another one that came in um this is both the sadus book that I read this week and um also here to remind you that you I really picked this because I want to stand up for the elephants and uh it's very well done I want to start with the fact that um I'm going to show you issue one instead but I do want to point this out that this says at the beginning of the 20th century the African elephant population was estimated to be around 12 million at the beginning of the 21st century the African elephant population was estimated to be around 350,000 that's a 97% decline in the population um this book is very graphic so I'm going to try to like for animal lovers so I'm going to try to show you the pages that aren't too terrible but this is about a woman whose parents owned a uh African elephant rescue in in Africa and they are breeding them and trying to keep them safe from poachers and they are constantly having to go out there and find these these poor elephants and at the very beginning of issue one they go out and they find a a a tribe of elephants that has been destroyed except for one little one so they take it in and take it back to the Refuge and in the process of doing that they are told basically by the the Raiders and the poachers that they're going to come for them and they're going to kill all of them and all of their elephants and so she's like we have to do something we have to move the elephants we have to get as many herds of elephants out of here as we can so they hire a mercenary uh to help them try to save these elephants and so the whole point of the story is that they basically load up all of their elephants and are going to take them from the place where they are all the way across the continent of Africa uh to another part where the animals will be safer and the problem is is that uh they have to go through these Raiders land and they have to get past all these poachers who are coming for them and there's somebody inside their party that is giving information to all of the bad people uh you know you've got elephants the new elephant that the baby elephant that they save at the beginning of issue one isn't being accepted by the her leader so there's not like it's hard to take care of that elephant and it's it's so incredibly moving because you know that this really really happens and you know that there's people who are sacrificing themselves literally to keep these elephants safe and there are also elephants that are sacrificing themselves to keep other elephants safe and that there's 97% decrease in population of the elephants so save the elephants read the comic learn all about it figure out how you can save the elephants as well um and know that when you read uh this book you're you're going to you're going to cry um especially is shuchu I cry I literally cried when issue two was over it was it was awful and beautiful and done no it is not done sorry there's more to come don't don't be confused and there are still elephants in this world that we can save so save elephants um uh the hunger in the dusk issue six from uh idw's original imprint and G Will Wilson uh this one I love this issue it's kind of almost could practically be a standalone uh because we are following Tara who is going back to her home in the last issue she left the the lastman standing who she was supposed to be working with because she just absolutely was like I you don't care you don't respect you don't you're not doing what I what I want to be who I want to be so she goes back to her home well as she's going back home she's having all these memories of all the different places that she's passing and all the different experiences she have so for the first time we actually get Tara's backstory we get to see who how she grew up as essentially the the princess to be the person who was supposed to be the ruler the the queen eventually someday of this orc tribe and and what exactly happened that led to that and her whole experience with connecting with other people and the the love that she lost in the situation that the situations that came it is AB absolutely beautiful J Wilson is just writing a stunning story filled with just these characters that uh I constantly want to know what they're doing like once I close the book I'm like well I wonder what they're doing now um where so and so and where's this person and she weaves it in such a beautiful way where you're emotionally connected and you're driven by those emotions and you're driven by those characters and then something happens that reminds you of like the main plot of the story where we're fighting these bad guys who are trying to wipe us all out and you're like oh my God I forgot we still to deal with that I just thought we were getting this beautiful story of these great characters but no we're still actually dealing with like a massive war that's going to kill everybody uh it's so good G Will Wilson is rocking it uh so incredible uh and then lastly talk about a delay I don't think this book has come out since we've been in Bradenton so it's been almost two years since this book has come out but uh hakes will issue five from Black Mass Comics the end of this series I am so excited that this issue is finally out and I could not have been uh more excited for this ending uh it was so well done so this is the story of um of a person who is working in a theater and has connected all these you know these friendships and we just kind of kind of are seeing most of their just day-to-day connection with these people but this person hak is also a street artist who is trying to give people a chance to see their value and uh their beauty through these pieces that they've been doing all around the city they've been hiding uh or not hiding because it's street art but doing these massive murals all around and in the last issue again which was like two years ago almost um their in their inspiration and their leader at the theater and the person that they've kind of relied on for everything has died and so they're like I don't really want to go on and this issue pick up in that situation where they're like I don't want to I don't want to do anything and they kind of abandon their whole life they they sto being a part of the show they sto doing their art and there's one piece left in this mural situation and they're just like nothing matters nobody matters none of the things that we ever do will amount to anything and I don't matter and their friends find out that their murals have taken off people have started trying to figure out what they mean they've started to find themselves in them they're starting post about it all over the Internet and to become a scavenger hunt to find all of them uh and to comment on what's going to be in that last one and because Kate has gone missing people have started to put their own Vision into it and they've started to embrace their own art and and find the magic in themselves to do so and it just becomes this beautiful story of how we think that we're not making a difference in the world and we think that what we're doing doing like nobody's paying attention to or it's not actually causing any change but it's when we're least expecting it that we find out that the world has been inspired by those things that we did that we never really uh imagined would go anywhere and there's this beautiful uh thing where they talk about um and you know in the end singing your rage painting your pain fighting for the Dignity of our pride and being ourselves it's never an end it in itself the meaning of art is also the possibility of making other people feel less lonely somewhere out there there's someone who truly understands what you mean someone who reacts the same way you do to the injustices of the world to things they recognize as wrong painful or wonderful someone who your rage will reassure someone who your courage will make feel safer despite everything no one is ever alone that is why deep down making art is proudly showing your scars to the world and if is just such a good ending and like even with it have taken like I'm so glad it took as long as it did almost to get there because today was the day that I needed to read this issue of this comic so it was like the art found you on the right day which is exactly the whole point of the story so I was like this couldn't be more perfectly time uh yolando s sanf forino is actually one of my favorite Slice of Life creators and romantic comedy creators in comics right now uh always just brings these beautiful stories and these great messages and so I'm so glad that we finally got the end to this and now give us another story cuz can't wait um so anyway those are the pcks of the week we've got just looks honestly when I look at the back I'm like is this going to end up being a murder story because now I've watched too many stories of people in cabins in the woods recently um but I think this is also just another yeah this is a about a girl who listened to a piano and thought wow the piano's cool and wanted to play it and then uh just kept going and like was like now I want to do that
