1200-pound bison takes care of every animal on farm | Animalkind

she welcomes every single rescue we get here and she sort of just lets him know it's gonna be okay that they're safe now we call her the sanctuary matriarch because that's really what she is [Music] [Applause] [Music] honestly sometimes I forget that she's blind because she's just so capable she knows her entire field she knows what her water is she has very strong sense of smell very strong sense of hearing so she gets around really well [Music] she had about a 7 acre pasture that's it's her field but everybody comes out to visit her in the evening it's like super magical it's like everybody from the bar and all of our sheep or goats are pigs they all get up field and they all grades together in the sunset and it's just absolutely magical every night we go out and take a night to Helen and give her some Apple nighttime snack before bed have company [Music] when she first got here she was she's always been really sweet but she was um just a little shy a little standoffish she didn't really want to be friends with anybody and we kept trying to like put animals in here so that she could have somebody to hang out with and she just wasn't interested we rescued a dairy cow she was pregnant she gave birth to Oliver we let Oliver out to deal with her and she just it was like this maternal instinct she just immediately wanted to it to be with him and she was grooming him and her whole personality changed [Music] he spent his whole first year just glued to her side and that was when everything changed for her she was calm her demeanor calm down she was more receptive to being you know to having attention from everybody else and yeah I mean it's just like a totally different bison now [Music] I call her a big Muppet because she's just so sweet and you know I hang out with her every day and she just she leaned her head into me and she just gives like the sweetest hugs and she grooms me sometimes which I always feel like really privileged when she does that because I feel like she's kind of like my mom in a way too like [Music] [Applause] [Music] you you
