guys guys so you really need to know this um I think like growing up I knew some of these yeah but after like doing the research there's a lot more I didn't know so we want to share all those with you guys write about it alright so the first one is guys is never give a Chinese person a no-no right never because a clock the term for it is so so maja and it actually refers to a it sounds like that the time when you're about to pay the person the last respects like when ya to die right like you're sending them off so Joe literally means to escort someone to the end usually of life all right next one favorite thing Chinese people will love to give each other is fruit right you love fruit you love oranges because it's team shoot because it's gold oranges you know we love all this stuff but one fruit you should never give a Chinese person is pear why not they're delicious bro while they are delicious but pear in Chinese is lead which also sounds like the term for separating yeah so a lot of these are homonyms right right and so if you give it to especially a couple you're basically wishing that they're gonna yeah or you're predicting that they're gonna split up right war it could mean that if you give to someone that they could die because to be high or leave the human world exactly that word is not very good so nobody wants to accept any lis or pear in terms of presence so don't give them that give them the golden oranges that's awesome James you yeah right definitely stick orange oranges and people for Chinese people love gold and also if you guys if you guys give incense um actually you know you're splitting you're supposed to give offerings right fruit actually Chinese people never put hair stuff to offer cuz that's very disrespectful to whoever you're offering incense exactly all right next one I'm kind of sad about this cuz I love ya you don't was it yeah um this specifically handkerchiefs now nowadays nobody nobody uses handkerchiefs anymore no so you know why why's that cause it's nasty yeah yeah right wait I mean what are you do it use not not fall into it and he put it back you know I get well that's that's what I thought when I was growing up I'm like I'm like why is my grandpa my grandpa had a handkerchief and he would blows nose put it back Nast maybe that's we don't do that now so nowadays like these are these are handkerchiefs with their pockets with right go with your suit it's a declaration declaration man I'm kind of sad because you're actually you're never supposed to give a Chinese person a handkerchief or they also say a towel which I'm assuming it's a hand towel because like a like a towel what you guys will use small powers yeah yeah so to me they're hand towels because of what when I say towel I mean like a big giant towel okay so anyways you're not supposed to because it's basically like that's what they they pass handkerchiefs out and a funeral to wipe away the tears so that when you're grieving so basically be given the handkerchief it's like somebody just died this is something you never get so on an umbrella oh you know I can make it double jinx by opening ah can i yeah but that but that but the opening umbrella is not a Chinese thing no that's I'm saying double chin yeah like that's a Western thing Asian in Western well the reason why you cannot give a Chinese person an umbrella we're sure not is because umbrella in Chinese is Sun which also means to fall parts more separates yeah and those are two very negative terms for Chinese people we don't want to separate right we don't want to fall apart right nobody does and if you offer it to somebody like a colleague or a loved one or a friend it makes them feel that like you're saying that our relationship is it's like a subtle way of saying like I don't want to be in this room so so basically if you want to break up with someone guys a Chinese person just throw a I'm rolling at them like this for just spear them that oh no do that that's like that's bad you know who gave you that one right Oh II what is it with you and your girlfriend giving y'all like horrible gifts she gave she gave you that as she gave been an umbrella you guys so your two closest friends you both gave on Briella soon like several wrong which we because we didn't know about yeah I should never give a Chinese person cut flowers that are white and also chrysanthemums they could be cut usually they're cut I'm fresh because basically that's what you give at a funeral so do not give those kind of flowers or any of your flowers you know stick to the roses the lilies the tulips whatever they are okay we actually are you know what I don't feel like a lot of Chinese people we love flowers flowers are not a typical like if you're gonna go visit your Chinese friend right you wouldn't bring or him or her flowers but you don't do that in the West either think about it well know like if you go visit like let's say your girlfriend's mother right or a parent you're not bringing her no in the West you probably will I'm not bringing if I really know you're not gonna bring you're like you're gonna meet your girlfriend's right here some flowers no no so I would do that okay I give flowers on Mother's days like on holiday but people give birth as a that's a very common thing to really okay but in China is like they got fruit thank you right right or money no yeah yeah giving your girlfriend's mom money hold on up by hon you're not giving her a home ball where are you from hello I will hear yo yo yo yo get out I need some help though I real what do I give my girlfriend's mom get her as a gift or your girlfriend's mom is pretty well-to-do right so you have to give her like something I mean if I give it fruits you can't go wrong with it I feel like it's so not okay you can't really go wrong with fruit okay maybe get her some like expensive chocolates really you're not you're gonna get her what I wasn't gonna I mean I do we're ruling out all these things our ship our likes flowers I'll tell you something else you guys should not give anyone scissors I mean why would anyone give someone scissors so happy birthday that's like the worst present ever yo I'll take scissor man I love citrus yeah what do you love Sitter stick is a cup of stuff you know I'm saying I always knew how many really how many pairs of scissors I'll tell you what I always like a really nice pair of scissors that's really super sharp and just like cause like you know you sometimes you do arts and crafts right and you want to cut the thing nice yeah yeah cuz everyone does arts and crafts and I have different you know I have like four different kinds of scissors right I have different kinds oh yeah I have I have shears for when I flower arranging what is this time that's just like a regular cut like a regular paper scissors I have no idea what that is this is what it what is that yeah this is a Korean barbecue scissor that's what it is ha ha those are kitchen scissors yeah anyways yeah there's only kind of halves but also scissors knives and anything that's sharp right and there's actually a thing it's called a doll now what basically is what you say in the old days when you want to break up with someone guy or girl like well can you eat all that but like one cut two parts exactly its Swift and clean and basically this one in the umbrella you want to show that you want to end the relationship somehow yeah or give them the umbrella and then cut it in half of the scissors oh that's just mean bro that's very absolute that's mean I got another one for you the fellas out there okay never give or also wear a green hat now this is olive green so it's not quite green so I don't feel bad for wearing it because it's not really that great at me it's um here's what it means it's in Chinese it's by Lou Malta which is where green hat and it basically symbolizes that your spouse your significant other cheating on you it's a form of like you it's like you're humiliated if you wear it in public you were all I had well I don't know if they laugh at you but they definitely be like oh like Becca that guy that you know that guy's wife cheating on him so don't give this and don't wear this there's something else you should never give some right I don't really feel like this is a coming gift time shoes okay and these are nice shoes yeah those are nice shoes these are my is my nicest pair of shoes yeah they're really nice dress shoes for any occasion pretty mm-hmm I'll have like three pairs of shoes anyway the reason you should not give shoes is because shoes and Chinese cost yet which means people yeah you don't want to give someone you both do you also give me someone shoes means they're they're wearing it in their trampling upon it which is also not to eat we're not very lucky in Chinese another two reasons is that there's a phrase called swine shout shape which is wearing small shoes which means that like you like to create difficulty for others and also it also means that you're kind of sending someone off not death like the clock but it's just kind of like saying farewell to them which also isn't good also you don't really typically know the person's shoe size too right that'd be kind of creepy guys never give a Chinese person a mirror do you see an evil spirit in here is there an evil spirit no they see the back of my room well guys basically a mirrors first of all they break easily and breaking a mirror is really bad luck and also they say that in Chinese like what we did a bunch of like ghost stories it attracts or it represents my malevolent spirits in Chinese culture so you don't want to give a mirror to somebody yeah and also there's a lot of haunting there's even the West there's like sayings that the mirror traps is so or something like that mirrors a portal to another dimension yeah let's stay away from that something else number two give a Chinese person is a block and especially not a new words you should notebook what crap is this man found that that's a fair gun look if we got the nowise full of it my West free is that cuz it's got weird take shape blue in front of on top of it this is donkus so give it to me brass tea take it back the reason you don't want to give plug is because booking tiny is called true which means to lose nobody wants to lose weird cuz books is like literally one of the most popular gifts in Western culture yeah everyone's like give a book oh I hate it if someone gave me a book really hate it alright I got another one for you Cantonese people out there um when people get married it you know you give gifts never give somebody a walk okay because walk in Cantonese is what what I can't do the whoop let's like walk and also sounds just like what which is means calamity or disaster so don't give it to a newlywed or else they're your basically wish you miss me I'll take a walk exactly something else you guys should be aware of not only is it important to be aware of what kind of gifts you're giving but it's also important to be aware of how you're wrapping the gift so if you wrap your gift in black or white wrapping paper or a bag it's not good well good in the West we know that black represents that Peter is right up like that and China also includes the color what that's why you go to Chinese funerals you see a lot of people dressed in white I'm walking around kind of like white robes that's a color of death zigzag oh no nothing white they have white wrapping no white flower there's no white another color related gift thing is actually uh don't give a red pen and here's here's the funny thing right red is what you're supposed to is like the color that represents fortune and all this stuff why is anybody giving someone a red pen I don't know but I don't know man teacher it's a gift it's a gift you know said I dude dude dude dude if some you know me man if you gave me up are you writing utensil I'm weird I like books writing utensils scissors I love that kind of stuff right actually when I bought a red pen yeah just go to Staples shop for you yeah dude I'm telling you man office supplies um don't give anybody you the red other stuff like red envelope that's cool yeah but not a red pen because red ink guys in the past what they use two things what they use for criminals if you're criminally wrote your name in red maybe with your finger or somehow so it's related to criminals and also maybe dying yeah so don't get red ink and actually the emperor also used to was the only one that was allowed to use red ink and in that case it was a vermilion stamp so no one else could actually use that as well right so that's nothing a very lucky color is gold Chinese people love go a lab goal and that's also why spring rolls what are you eating during celebrations in China because they look like little gold ingots no we we're obsessed with God we love gold you could have Chinese weddings you see people give gold like all the time I've seen so much gold at Asian weddings that I'm just like oh my gosh like this is crazy there's the amount of it's like Fort Knox over here yeah I'll tell you guys buy is your wedding sometimes crazy stuff I know everything there is to know about Asian weddings cuz yeah i balls in that profession for so long yeah I went I went to some with you man yeah who's I openin I opening so there you go guys those are some things you should not give or never give Chinese people yeah so hopefully I if you ever in that situation you're
