have you ever put something down and then gone to pick it back up again 10 minutes later only to find it's disappeared sometimes things stay missing for a very long time and then turn up in the last place anyone would think of looking for them here are some of the strangest cases of Lost & Found items in our history by 1944 events in the second global conflict were beginning to turn against Hitler and the German army especially on the Eastern Front the Russians were making strong advances and the Germans were losing territory Hitler had no intention of surrendering at the time but he didn't want Soviet forces capturing German equipment as they pushed forward for that reason he ordered the sinking of three submarines to the bottom of the Black Sea so that they would stay out of Soviet hands he intended to come back for them eventually but Germany ended up on the losing side and the submarines were never recovered which earned them the nickname Hitler's lost fleet they're not lost anymore a team of specialist divers has located the trio of submarines just off the coast of Turkey one is near agua and the other two are closer to Istanbul as they've been sealed since they were sunk historians hope that conditions inside the boats will still be pristine making them a valuable resource to archeologists the submarines weren't the only interesting items that ended up at the bottom of the sea during 1944 so did the plane of french author antoine de sainte-marie best known for writing the little prince which is one of the best-selling books in world history Sante pari and his Lockheed Lightning p38 plane took off on July 31st 1944 on a reconnaissance mission to photograph the French coast but never returned Sante pari was as well known for his skills as an adventurer as he was an author so speculation about his disappearance persisted for years a French underwater salvage team finally solved the mystery in 2004 when they found the wreckage of the plane off the coast of Marseilles what we still don't know is why the plane came down and we probably never will a teacher from Ostia Bruschi was stunned when she found out that a piece of glass she kept in her home for 30 years because she liked the color of it turned out to have otherworldly origins Lydia korshunova was given the glass by her husband who'd found it when he was out walking she thought it might be an emerald but valuers told her it wasn't so she thought nothing further of it until decades later when she decided she'd try again to find out where it came from it was sent to the Academy of Sciences in Moscow and scientists there couldn't believe what they were seeing this is a fragment of the Tunguska meteorite which is believed to have fallen to earth in 1908 with a force of 50 megatons it's the largest piece of the meteorite ever found and it may even be the object's core the Academy of Sciences was keen to keep it so much so that they bought it from her for three million dollars are there any drain covers in your garden you've never looked under this might be a good time to dig them up and investigate them because a man who was doing basic garden maintenance in Middlesbrough England did exactly that and found out his home had a whole extra dimension Chris Scott was having his property renovated when he dug out the drain cover but when he climbed down the ladder to find out what was there he realized he'd uncovered a whole secret bunker the concrete-lined bunker has two rooms tables chairs and basic electronics and is big enough to hold 50 people at once it's believed that it was initially built as a bomb shelter which was probably used by his whole neighborhood and was then sealed up when it was no longer required Chris intends to put his new space to good use as a wine cellar when a meteorite takes the time to cross half the galaxy to land on earth it feels rude to use it as a doorstop but that's what Michigan farmer David Mazurek did for three decades it's not uncommon for small meteorites to fall to earth over Michigan and mass errect thought his lump of space rock was the perfect weight and size to prop open his barn door it was only when he noticed fellow Michigan residents much smaller pieces of meteorite on eBay that he started to wonder what his was worth he took it to Central Michigan University we're excited scientists told him that the mound of iron and nickel was particularly rare and valuable and could be worth up to one hundred thousand dollars unsurprisingly Mazurek decided to cash in on his old doorstop but he donated ten percent of the proceeds to the university farmland seems like a good place to search for the unexpected Argentinian Jose Antonio Nieves was enjoying a walk in the countryside south of Buenos Aires when he came across an enormous shell by a river Jose ran home telling all his friends that he thought he'd found a huge dinosaur egg and he wasn't far from the truth his discovery was the shell of a glyptodont a prehistoric creature that is the ancestor of the modern armadillo and became extinct over 10,000 years ago the giant shell is bigger than a Volkswagen Beetle and would have acted as the creatures armored defending it from predators such fines are not uncommon in South America but locating one of this size in such good condition doesn't happen often so it caused great excitement for local historians and biologists it's not unusual for people to have old piles of mechanical junk in their shedder yard they can be useful for spare parts or restoration projects it is however unusual to find out that your mechanical junk is actually an old Soviet t54 tank the tanks were manufactured between 1946 and 1959 and were highly valued by the Soviet Army for their reliability there are even some smaller armies in the world who still use them now nobody knows for sure how one of them ended up in pieces in a yard in varn itza but our best guess is that after the army had no further use for it a farmer adapted it to be put to use as a tractor it's known that there was a military presence in the village until the 1980s so maybe a farmer did a deal with the army and got his hands on the tank we wonder if it could move again if someone put it all back together when governments launch things into space they carefully devise flight paths to make sure they don't fall back down to earth in populated areas usually rockets and other parts from the launch process fall away into the sea but in the case of the Soyuz 57 mission to the International Space Station there was an accident during the launch fortunately all the astronauts on board survived but the rocket could not be salvaged it was considered to be completely lost until some Russian hunters found it in a forest the precise location of the rocket hasn't been revealed but we have plenty of pictures and videos to confirm that what the men say about it is true the hunters say they heard a loud bang during the night and found the rocket near a swamp when your elderly relatives are preparing to move from their homes into retirement accommodation make sure you double-check their garage before they leave they might have been into collecting classic cars when they were younger this Lamborghini Countach with a market value of around five hundred thousand dollars has been gathering dust for more than 20 years before a grandson visiting his grandmother identified it and realized its true importance the man's grandfather had planned to set up a luxury car retail business in the 1980s but abandoned his plans when the insurance costs were too high that meant the cars he'd already bought went into storage and never left it hasn't moved for a couple of decades but with a clean and a little maintenance it should still be fine as if the Lamborghini wasn't enough there was also a forgotten Ferrari 308 hiding in the garage - how does it painting by the greatest artist Michelangelo end up stuffed behind a sofa in Brooklyn New York well according to the Cober family who owned it it was to stop it being hit by tennis balls the family liked the painting but it always assumed it was a fake when their children hit it with a tennis ball and scuffed it they hid it behind the sofa to protect it and then forgot about it when Martin Cober retired from the US Air Force in 2003 he decided to use his free time to find out more about his painting and was amazed to find out that Michelangelo expert and historian Antonio for Ciolino believes it to be a real unfinished missing painting by the Renaissance master for ciolino believes it was painted as a gift to a friend of the artist and was passed on to a Catholic Cardinal and then to a German Baroness who in turn gifted it to her favorite lady in waiting the lady was the sister-in-law of Martin's great-grandfather and it entered the family it could be worth anything up to 300 million dollars so it's now been hidden away this time in a secured bank vault it sounds careless to lose an entire spacecraft but in the case of India's chandrayaan-1 that was precisely what was supposed to happen the lunar orbiter had completed its mission performing chemical and terrain surveys of the moon from above and then ceased transmission when its mission was over in 2009 at only five feet tall the little ship was expected to become a tiny satellite of the moon and never be seen or heard from again that was until NASA switched on some new radar equipment from their Goldstone deep space communications center in California and found it still orbiting 124 miles above the lunar surface circling from pole to pole incredibly after eight years adrift and alone its orbit had barely changed at all it's long been rumored that senior Nazis escaped punishment after their defeat in 1946 by running away to the South American jungle but there's never been any evidence for those theories until perhaps now a team of investigators has uncovered some mysterious buildings in the middle of an Argentinean forest close to the Paraguayan border the buildings wouldn't be suspicious on their own but within them researchers also found German coins minted between 1938 and 1941 and the remnants of some porcelain dishes made by missin a German company the style of the buildings are not typical of argentinian design and the 10-foot thick walls suggests that they were intended to act as a fortress it seems that the Germans were here once but did any of them ever return fleeing from justice live out their days in secrecy here's a discovery none of us would welcome proof that someone has been living hidden away inside the walls of our own home two teenagers playing in their parents room fell against a bookcase which moved and revealed a secret passageway hidden behind it the passageway contained a staircase which seemingly led to a solid wall until you notice that there's a tiny crawlspace built into the wall crawling through the boys found wrappers from their own Halloween candy a mysterious key and a collection of creepy dolls the implication was clear someone had been living here very recently police investigated but couldn't find any clues to the unwanted guests identity understandably the family had the room sealed up very quickly subscribe to the channel and turn on
