12 Foods You Must Try in Hokkaido!! | Hokkaido Series 6/7

hey guys welcome to my channel tokyo foodie sarah in this video today i'm gonna be showing you things you must eat in hokkaido [Music] if you're new to this channel hi my name is sarah and i like food in my trip to hokkaido i traveled from asahikawa airport went around furano sapporo noboribetsu and flew back from tokyo from hakodate during my trip i ate a lot in this video i'm going to be showing you foods that are famous in hokkaido if you're already a subscriber and you've been following my hokkaido series there will be some clips you would have seen in my previous videos but there are also clips that you haven't seen so make sure you stick till the end of the video to find out 12 things i highly recommend you try in hokkaido number one let's start off with this one potatoes hokkaido is famous for their fluffy and nutty potatoes yay oh my god so pretty the meat of the potato is actually really really nutty so nice there are quite a few potato souvenirs including this keychain i mean why not number two here's something healthy-ish corns the best times to enjoy corns in hokkaido is from august to september because that's the harvest times for corns you can enjoy corn soup corn tempura and also corn chocolate oh by the way this was really really nice number three melons hokkaido melons are juicy and sweet the best time for enjoying melons is from may to october i got this fabulous looking melon bread generally speaking a melon bread refers to just the bread pot despite its name a melon bread doesn't contain any melons they just look like melons but this special and fancy melon bread had melon cream in between the two melon breads you can also get some melon souvenirs like this melon chocolate but this is probably the most premium melon dessert you can get a melon ice cream called santa claus's beard it kind of looks like santa claus beard upside down number four jingy grilled mutton or lamb there are various stories about the origin of genghis khan one is that the dish was cooked by genghis khan who led the mongolian empire genghis khan in japanese is chingi sahan so the name of the dish jingyskan is kind of close to the mongolian man yeah another story is that the dish came from chinese khao yang ro grilled mutton marinated in sauce no one really knows the actual truth so let's just enjoy the dish cheers in most bbq places they provide you with an apron for people like me who spill everything on every piece of clothing i have okay i'm safe i got myself a glass of makgeolli so here they recommend you to either choose between the sweet sauce or the dense sauce i'm gonna go for the sweet sauce i'm gonna put it in here they recommend you to mix in some of the grated onion into the sauce so i'm gonna do that okay i'm gonna be trying out the premium lamb oh my god the meat is so juicy and it's so soft wow so nice and then we get a lot of veg it's really good because these veg soaked up all the juice from the lamb it must be really nice i'm gonna put it in the sauce this beef has already been seasoned with salt so i'm just gonna eat it as is i'm just gonna eat the others uh yeah so jingle sound goes well with red wine just an fyi i got it in a bottle so i got the full bodied one to go with the meat this piece has been marinated with miso i also got this seasoned lamb in a pot gonna try out the seasoned lamb in a pot i feel like with the previous one they did call it premium lamb so it was a lot softer but this one is also quite nice it's more chewy but it's like very very meaty and it's nice in its own way number five miso ramen if you're visiting sapporo you should have miso ramen because sapporo is famous for their miso ramen number six salt ramen while sapporo is famous for their miso ramen hakodate is famous for their salt ramen the clear soup is very light and is easy to finish the whole bowl in no time number seven soup curry soup curry is said to have originated in hokkaido this cozy restaurant is called kitchen farm yard and the place has really good reviews the restaurant is surrounded by a nice garden for lunch i've decided to come to this place called farm yard and it was just a spontaneous decision because as i was going on the car i just like randomly looked at the google map and i saw this restaurant and i was like okay it seems nice they serve soup curry so i was like okay why not but then i came here and um it turned out that this place is really really popular by tourists it has like really good reviews so yeah soup curry so guys i got my soup curry and i have to wait for maybe 30-40 minutes to get the seat here it is so i got myself the soy bean and pork soup curry and on top they have all sorts of like big veg veg that's been cut roughly so i'm going to try the bell pepper on top i think they grilled the pepper the sweetness is definitely enhanced than the fresh bell pepper so i'm gonna try out the soup there's so much spice inside whoa it really has that complex flavor and oh my god look how much like soy beans and veg and meat there is i'm gonna have it with some butter rice there's veg after veg after veg guys i just tried out the potato and oh my god it's so fluffy and soft and really nice i was wondering where the pork was right and oh my god i found this big block here meat protein there's a second piece yes i am done with the soup curry it was so big i'm actually quite full whilst i was eating it i realized that because there's all sorts of different veg inside every bite you take is like a whole new experience if that makes sense and also because the curry is spicy and it's quite hot it's like soupy so the soup stays hot um you do get quite warm after you start eating it so i was sweating um in between i'm okay now but like i think a soup curry is great for a cold place like hokkaido number eight zangi zangi is deep fried chicken that's been marinated with garlic ginger and soy sauce there isn't much of a difference between the ordinary karage deep fried chicken this restaurant called sapporo zangihonpo serves a lot of different types of zangie okay i'm gonna try out the seaweed [Music] oh my god that is so crispy and the chicken is very juicy i also love the seaweed flavour now i'm going to try out the special of the month spicy korean chicken flavor sanging gives it so much flavor it's not too spicy it's great number six lucky pierrot's burger lucky fiero is a burger chain that operates only in the hakodate area their chinese chicken burger is delicious filling and reasonably priced i also highly recommend the chinese chicken curry the sweet and salty chicken has so much flavor and it's so so juicy oh my god number 10 milk ice cream more than 4 million tonnes of milk is produced in hokkaido every year which contributes to 55 percent of milk production in the whole of japan so milk products are famous in hokkaido a fresh milk ice cream in the middle of a farmyard in hokkaido is something truly amazing number 11 other flavored ice cream you can get a lot of interesting ice cream flavors all across japan and hokkaido is no exception though personally i'd pass the lavender ice cream number 12 seafood because hokkaido is surrounded by the ocean it's famous for fresh seafood i had seafood in various places seafood rice ball restaurant buffet seafood izakaya the new chitose airport near sapporo and i
