Welcome to Fukuoka We're in Fukuoka prefecture with Odigo We're going to be exploring here for two days and showing you all the best things to do in Fukuoka Take it away, Kasia We're in Hakata now where the specialty is mentaiko Mentaiko is cod fish eggs Mentaiko is hard to transport because it has to be refrigerated the whole time so we aren't going to buy it. So the next best thing is menbei which is mentaiko senbei That means mentaiko crackers Where I come from, all forms of caviar are considered super expensive snobby food So I enjoy that in Japan mentaiko and ikura are normal things to have because they're awesome We're going to grab lunch at a famous local spot here in Fukuoka Everything in this restaurant is tofu related It's called sosaku ryori which means creative dining/creative food We're going to receive about 10 dishes here Unohana. When you make tofu, you squeeze a cloth And this is the remains of what is left on that cloth This is namafudengaku which we can't figure out how to translate into English I have no idea what I'm eating but it tastes great. Going to Dazaifu Denmangu shrine I can't, I can't pronounce that There are two things to note about this (shrine) First off, the ume trees here are pretty famous So a lot of things around here have ume in the name or are ume flavored the restaurant we were at, for example, was Ume no Hana and second of all, it's a temple for students The god of education is supposed to be enshrined here So a lot of students come here before finals to ask for blessings and hope to do better on their tests Holy cow there's a holy cow At all shrines in Japan, you can buy amulets for good luck luck in relationships, safety for driving this one focuses on education, you can even buy pencils here I haven't seen that at any of the other shrines The pencils are to be used when you're writing your exams or need luck in school You can check out a designer Starbucks if that's your thing Apparently this place was designed with inspiration coming from shrines and like classical Japanese architecture We got these snacks from Suzukake It's a store that's been around in Fukuoka for over 90 years and the most popular one they have is this one and this is called whatever Chris just said Monaka It's filled with red bean paste The thing with Japanese sweets is their not overwhelmingly sweet so if you're from the U.S. they might not seem sweet enough for you This is warabi mochi with kinako on top It's kuzu sakura and it's covered in salted cherry blossom leaves That's what it looks like inside You're supposed to drink green tea with Japanese snacks so that the bitterness of the green tea balances out the sweetness of the snacks Wow, good stuff These yamakase are unique to Hakata 7 teams run through the city carrying these It's a festival that takes place between the first and second week of July They wear traditional Japanese futoshi and teams run around through the city with it and for a week before the event, there are preparations people kind of cheering, preparing to do it In Fukuoka you can meet people with their butts out Pouring a beer Tasty Yatais are pretty unique to Fukuoka SAnd the later it gets, the more come out So when you're drunk, you can go eat at one of these outdoor food stalls that kind of roll up and set up Definitely 100% for sure eat ramen There's Hakata style ramen Ramen in Fukuoka is amazing It's the best, I love ramen in Fukuoka What's the name of this place? Nagahama ramen That's a long name Mmmmmmm The broth is really good It's tonkotsu ramen so it's cooked pork bones for a really long time so you can really taste the meat in the broth It like explodes in your mouth This soup looks so real It's got like this natural no-color color Man, that was good What did you think Winbin? A little bit salty Other ramens you should try that originated from Fukuoka are Ichiran and Ippudo Two franchises that you can get anywhere in Japan but they come from here And they're very good Everybody loves them for a reason Go shopping in Tenjin Chikagai Tenjin is the fashion district of Fukuoka and to avoid walking through the heat or bad weather you can get to all the shops that are above ground through this underground tunnel system Hey, my name is Kristof, I'm from Germany and a big fan Commute by bus In Fukuoka, buses are the default means of public transportation which is surprising coming from Tokyo, where everybody takes trains Buses are fast, convenient, and they come and go all the time Come to the beach If you're lucky, it won't be raining like today but people don't mind The beach is basically still inside the city It's only 20 minutes away from the center 20 minutes by bus and you're here by the sea and having fun and having mo-jai-to If you wanna check out other things to do in Fukuoka or any of Japan's other 47 prefectures check out the Odigo webpage Wth is a webpage Website
