Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
What an amazing resource to have filmed. The mind boggles to think he was around in 1858.
For a man who lived in Co Clare and Co Meath, his accent sounds to me more like a person from Co Kerry today.
These recordings, and the passage of time will allow interesting study of changes in accents.
This is amazing thanks. I don't remember hearing about the Bodyke Evictions before. What a great piece of footage.
Thank you for posting this!
Wow. This is amazing. What a lovely piece of history to have on video. And I know he's not from Kerry but I swear, he's got an accent that's the split of it.
Makes me wonder if places like Kerry/the west of Ireland have accents that have remained more unchanged through the decades, while accents closer to the east have evolved more over time.
mind blowing really. the things he lived through from the formation of germany to the atom bomb
You'd kind of forget it was possible to have something like this. His parents survived the famine. My mind is blown. What a video. Was thinking would he be hard to understand and really was.
Anyone know where the full interview can be found? I'd love to see the rest of it.
