australia's diameter from east to west is nearly 4 thousand number twelve the weird myth joke urban legend i guess that the moon is made of cheese actually dates back to a medieval tale about a wolf being duped by a fox into thinking the moon's reflection in a lake is cheese and the wolf then drinks all the water to get it and explodes naturally number 13. there are over 2000 variations of cheese number 21 also lobsters pee out of their faces just a heads up number 22 is 2020 the worst year ever feels like it but maybe not according to the medieval historian michael mccormick who says the year 536 was the worst year in history because of the extreme weather events probably caused by volcanic eruption early in the year causing average temperatures in europe and china to decline number 23 walt disney currently holds the most academy awards disney won 26 oscars over the course of his career and was nominated for a grand total of 59 times number 24 sharophobia isn't a phobia of the singer performance share i mean who would believe that believe the song but anyway cherylophobia is a phobia where the person has an irrational aversion to being happy the term comes from the greek word shiro which means to rejoice hang on doesn't that mean you're happy not being happy and therefore oh my brain hurts number 25 speaking of a lack of happiness radiohead you probably know them from their first big hit creep a song that they themselves absolutely despise so much so they made a song about how much they hate their most popular song it's called my iron lung which sadly is better but wasn't anywhere near as successful number 26 human lungs are actually bloody massive if you open them all up they're made of several branches of little tubes and sacks which have better scientific names than tubes and sacks point is though that the surface area of one's lungs can actually cover a whole tennis court number 27 hey you know how in tennis there's no such thing as zero it's love as in 15 love being a score ever wondered where that came from well so does everyone else because no one really knows something is because it sounds like luff which is french for the egg and a zero looks a bit like an egg but there's no evidence for that whatsoever so number 28 ever look at that suitcase with the wheel you have and you think you're the best thing to ever happen to me well you can thank an artist actually called alfred krupa for it who invented it back in 1954. number 29 the maui of east ireland are famous for their monolithic faces the big heads of easter island well some of them actually have bodies others though are just the heads number 30 when sam simon of simpson's fame passed away in 2015 he donated 100 million dollars to charities and his dog foundation which become females and unfertilized eggs become males with the help of pheromones number 32 while we're on bees they have a dance called the waggle dance which is actually not used to throw some shapes but is in fact tell other bees where the best food is number 33 are you wondering how normal bees become a queen bee beatty dubs when in the hive they do this by giving lava some royal jelly material meaning they will grow to become the new queen of the hive royal jelly these are gross ugh we should never do a whole video on them number 34 during the prohibition era in the states alcohol was not legal but many people weren't following those rules which made them jolly fed up them being the government so naturally the powers that be poisoned alcohol supplies that death would be a nice deterrent for them instead by some estimates this ended up killing nearly 10 000 people number 35 tesla was not founded by elon musk martin eberhard and mark tarpaning founded the company in 2003 and elon musk led the first investment round in february 2004 and joined the company's board of directors as chairman number 36 saturn orbits the sun once every 29.4 earth years its slow movement against the backdrop of stars under the nickname louboutin from the ancient assyrians the name means oldest of the old number 37 queen victoria was the first reigning monarch to take up residence at buckingham it was previously owned by her late uncle king william iv and needed some serious refurbishment victoria then put in the work adding an entirely new wing palace today resembles what she did number 38 a lot of folks know that abraham lincoln was a lawyer before becoming president but did you know before that he was tending bars he had berry and lincoln a bar that served brandy he opened with his child william f ferry thing is though berry was an alcoholic and drank most of the stock so it was a short-lived dream number 39. conversely another potus george washington decided to go into alcohol after his presidency he got involved in whiskey distilling having the largest distillery in the country at that time number 40 the most expensive book ever purchased was sold for 30.8 million dollars it was codex leicester by leonardo da vinci and was purchased by bill gates you know that guy that people think is putting a chip in your arm which he definitely isn't doing by the way number inventor carver was also an accomplished pianist and painter his artwork was exhibited at the world's fair in 1893. all right i know you were wondering so let's just get out of the way right now the first known depiction of a unicorn found in the last core caves of modern day france dates back to around 15 000 bce magical stuff number 43 did you know that orson welles that's right the citizen kane guy was a member of both the society of american magicians and the international brotherhood of magicians and performed magic tricks at several of their conventions number 44 one of the most famous magic tricks in the world is the soaring and half illusion this was shown on bbc tv in 1956 by a magician named pc sorca but the program ended abruptly after the assistant was cut in two but audiences thought the assistant had just straight up been murdered live on television and so complained number 45 according to a poll in 2018 most average brits spent 10 years of their life watching tv 10 years you could be watching youtube lads come on now number 46 speaking of youtube by the way in its very very early stages it was designed to help you get dates yes it was going to be a dating site called tune in hook up names seemingly weren't their strong suit i'm glad they changed that number 47 while we're hooking up you may be surprised to learn there are more rejections on tinder than matches not in my experience anyway well in 2014 the new york times reported there were 12 million matches every day on the app but there are 1 billion swipes leaving a discrepancy of 988 million rejections number 48 simon and garfunkel met in grade school when they both appeared in a production of alice in wonderland paul was the white rabbit and art was the cheshire cat number 49 the first oranges weren't orange as in the color orange the original oranges from southeast asia were a tangerine pomelo hybrid and were actually green in fact oranges in warmer regions like vietnam and thailand still stay green through maturity number fifty there's an animal called a beefalo it's a cross between a cow and a bison and you can buy its meat in almost half of the states in america it was designated as its own species as recently as the 1980s number 51 on the 18th of april 1930 the bbc news radio bulletin was quite a lovely by today's standards as they simply said there was no news that day simply nothing had happened so they just played some piano music instead if only we could have that now number 52 oh hey did you know that the word piano is actually short for something else it's italian come on that was obvious but piano is short for piano forte which means soft loud early versions of the piano are called forte pianos or loud softs number 53 the concept of a caron may seem modern but actually they've been around for hundreds of thousands of years the first customer complaint ever recorded was from around 1750 bc found in iraq from a man called nanny to a copper merchant named ian asia his message of dissatisfaction and request for a refund was scribed into a tablet that's how we know about it number 54 dolly parton is a stone cold legend she after all donated one million dollars to covered vaccine research which ended up being a successful one but she also has what's called the dolly parton imagination library a scheme that mails free books to kids all over the world whether it's the us canada uk ireland or australia over 100 million have been sent so far number 55. speaking of dolly dolly the sheep was born in 1995 and she was a clone the cell that spawned dolly the sheep was a mammary gland cell and so was named after dolly parton for that very reason that's not a joke that actually happened number 56 allow me to introduce you to the korean word um i've come across quite a lot of them in my time it means mom's friend's son literally but it also colloquially means a person that's better than you at everything number 57 have you ever heard stories of the 17th century salem witch trials in which women were accused of sorcery and so burned to the stake well some of that isn't true nobody was ever burnt there don't be wrong most of them were jailed or hanged which you know still death and is awful but there was no toasty burning number 58. frederick ball was the man who designed the humble pringles can an invention he was so proud of his ashes were put in one when he died and he was buried within it just like how when i die i'll upload the funeral to youtube for some sweet sweet clicks number 59 the humble chainsaw has been in the toolkits of lump jackson serial killers and lumberjack serial killers for decades now but its first intended usage wasn't to cut down wood but to help out with difficult childbirth by cutting through pelvic bone number 16. the olympics throws medals and athletes fit enough to catch them i think that's how it works isn't it but it wasn't just sport they used to celebrate between 1912 and 1948 the olympics had an art section giving medals for things like music and painting if only they continued pitbull could be an olympian number 61 speaking of ketchup which we weren't but oh well it initially wasn't just tomato based but was mushroom-based or sometimes fish not only that in 1834 dr john cook bennett added tomatoes to ketchup and then it was sold even in pill form as medicine for things like diarrhoea tasty number 62 the internet security company cloudflare have an interesting way to add to the random ability of their encryption software they have a wall full of lava lamps the random movement of which helps them form the entirely random cryptokeys they give their clients number 63 marlboro lava not to concern you or anything but right now there are 20 volcanoes erupting all over the world at least this doesn't mean what you think though that's why it's not you know worldwide news some of those volcanoes are tiny and it doesn't mean they're actively spewing magma nintendo 64. when you're dead and buried and in the ground chances are you'll decay but under the right conditions your body can actually turn into a waxy soap substance due to enzymes in the soil meeting the fat on your body number 65 but there are some cultures around the world that don't bury their dead in the ground take the cavatino people in the philippines for example who entomb their dead inside a tree of their choice they have to choose before they die obviously because how would that work number 66 have you ever wondered how often the earth is struck by lightning well it's actually only a hundred times per second number 67 when lightning strikes beaches and sand it creates a special material called fulgurite which is like a special crystallized glass chunks of it are very rare for both collectors and scientists so make sure you hold on to it could be worth a pretty penny number 68 ride the lightning was the second hit album by metal legends metallica released in 1984 but did you know its title was actually coined by horror writer stephen king guitarist kirk hammett had been reading the stand in which a death row inmate said he was due to ride the lightning i.e the electric chair and he thought it sounded cool and that's where we are number 69 write this latin stephen king actually hated the movie version of his arguably most famous book he said he disliked the shining movie because jack's character doesn't really change he seems insane from the beginning in contrast to his novel number 17 hotels in new orleans are understandably very busy indeed during mardi gras but did you know they have to spend money on greece to cover poles with this isn't what it sounds like it's so that drunk and otherwise stupid people don't try to climb on their balconies for a good view of the parade number 21 people who are drunk may well be as a result of a certain phobia specifically cenocylicophobia which means fear of an empty glass just have it in a plastic beaker lats problem solved number 72 impractical jokers is one of the biggest shows on the web and a personal comfort blanket for me but not for everybody it's a hidden camera show so people have to sign a form to say they want to be on one man flat out refused because the jokers had accidentally caught him shopping for furniture with his mistress potentially exposing his affair number 73 the famous 19th century poet lord byron had a bit of a rebellious streak at university dogs were banned from cambridge campus so it really crowned his gears so in defiance of that he had a bear live with him instead and people say pannington's unrealistic number 74 polar bears are actually black not white their fur simply reflects visible light short simple fact number 75 princess leia herself carrie fisher was more than just an iconic actress she was also what's called a script doctor rewriting screenplays she often wasn't credited for doing so but she rewrote hook sister act and the wedding singer number 76 there's a swedish wedding tradition that states that if the bride or groom leaves the ceremony say to go to the bathroom then guests can line up to kiss the one that's left so if you've ever fancied your friend's fiance that's weird but also get them to marry in sweden number 77 music like on david bowie had two eyes that were different colors from one another also it seems that's actually not the case one of his eyes was just permanently dilated this happened when he was a mere boy because his best friend punched him in a fight over a girl number 78 apparently zach galifianakis worked on comedy heavyweight saturday night live in the 2000s for about two weeks as a writer during that time he pitched a sketch about guarding britney spears's belly button which was received so badly tina fey comforted him afterwards see people fail but look where he is now number 79 the humble matchstick was invented in 1826 and completely by accident chemist john walker got the end of a stick covered in chemicals and rubbed it against his hearth sounds painful causing a burst of flames at least he found out that way and not by you know burning his house down number eighty in the 1960s the british sent a spiked a warsaw in poland who apparently had a partial for women his name james bond the movies actually caused him to be taken out of the field because his name would be too obvious number 81 a small brewery in michigan called dark horse brewery were approached by a band in 2010 who had an album of the same name asking if they wanted to be in their music video to help promote them the head brewer there said no because the ban that asked was nickelback and he absolutely despised them number 82 apparently members of nickelback enjoy checking into hotels under different names like dr noah body or harry houdini i mean and that's quite funny actually number 83 one stunt that houdini did that you may not be aware of what his escape from inside a seam monster in 1911. we don't know what sea creature it actually was could have been a whale maybe but it was dead and on the shore he escaped in 15 minutes but nearly died from the fumes and this decaying creature number 84 speaking of whales killer whales gosh they're scary aren't they but they're also not whales technically there are large species of dolphin so impress your aqua friends with that number 85 for a time in irish nightclubs halfway through the night everything stopped and food was served with no music or lights on before kicking off again this was because venues weren't allowed alcohol licenses if they didn't serve food number 86 we signed the guinness book of records all the dang time on this channel but did you know it was created because of arguments at parties specifically for stopping them in 1954 there was an argument about the fastest bird in europe and they realized they had no book to check it in and so the guinness book of world records was born number 87 the song rasputin was made famous by german funk band boney one member of bony m bobby farrell died on the 30th of november while he was in saint petersburg which is exactly the same date and place that the real rasputin died hey keshia you should stay away from lumberjack yards that's all i'm saying number 88 rasputin is sort of the reason why most movies have that disclaimer saying their works of fiction and not based on anyone in real life that's because in a 1932 movie about his death rasputin and the empress the guy who killed rasputin complained his wife was misrepresented he and his wife won 125 000 in this case number 89 the british royal family are allowed to do pretty much anything they want but within the walls of their palace there's one thing the queen has banned monopoly apparently the game can get a bit too vicious when the family played together though can't the queen just win by saying she owns everything number 90 there's a version of monopoly which is literally made of gold with diamond studded dice it costs over 2 million dollars and if you have that kind of money you're likely playing monopoly in real life anyway number 91 space is weird we all know that by now for instance according to nasa one teaspoon of neutron star material weighs 6 billion tons that's a strong spoon needed for that buttload of star material number 92 by the way me saying butt load there isn't just me being immature or uncouth a butt load is an actual unit of measurement it's specifically for wine and whiskey though and the butt is basically a cask but you know still number 93 surrealist artist salvador dali has artwork that you see many times when you enter the candy aisle in the store because he designed the logo for the lollipop company chopper chops because his friend who owned it was complaining it was still left to do number 94 uranus the most hilariously named planet originally had a name that was significantly less funny and just a bit boring georgium siddis which is latin for planet of george so people just called it george number 95. the last letter added to the alphabet go on have a guess what do you reckon no it was j j was originally a variation on the letter i in the alphabet before becoming its own letter and pronunciation in 1524 number 96 the myth of the cyclops not the x-men you know the mythical creature came from the fact that the ancient greeks found the bones of woolly mammoths and just didn't know what they were i've no idea where the one eye thing came from though number 97 did you know that us humans used to sleep in shifts before the 1880s we ordinarily wouldn't go to bed and then get up in the morning they'd go to sleep for three or so hours then wake up for a couple more in the night and do some you know past things then go back to sleep again until dawn number 98 if you fold a piece of paper 42 times well first of all congratulations because that's impossible the paper would be small yes but it would be so thick it would reach the moon come on nasa get on it right in front of you number 99 jessica is new in town or so was when the name was invented back in 1596 where it was invented for a play by you guessed it billy shakes that's right shakespeare made it up for his play the merchant's venice 98 of the atoms that make up your body right now are completely different from the ones a year ago today apparently the reason why we're not clones all the time is because our copied sounds eventually get more and more mistakes also known as the aging process also in your lifetime your body will produce enough saliva to fill two swimming pools so that's grim a still that means you know if a few of you were together you could fill up a hole in your garden over a decade or so with saliva get a free pool so anyway that was andrew and that's about anything and everything part three did you enjoy yourself did you learn anything let me know in the comments down below be sure to give this video a like and subscribe to one-on-one facts if you haven't done so already because we're having a great time here and hey it's christmas or just the day after christmas and my birthday in the meantime though two videos on screen that you're really gonna like trust me on this one click on one it will make your year and i'll see you next year goodbye for now you
