$1000 Honda Civic - How to Buy and Sell Cars for Profit - Car Flipping 101

hey welcome to flying wheels at my flying wheels youtube channel today is one of those videos that i really really enjoy doing i love cleaning cars i love bringing cars back to life this is the reason i got into this profession this right here is a really beat up 2008 honda civic with 224 000 miles you can see the paint is faded it's missing hubcaps it looks like it's hit everything but the lottery i mean there's a ding and a dent in every single corner today i'm gonna try to bring this thing back to life in one single day and i'm gonna do it by myself now my name is craig from flying wheels i own a dealership i started this business buying inexpensive cars like this one right here now yes it has 224 000 miles that's a lot of miles really is nothing more reliable than a honda with a manual transmission so i don't care how many miles this car has no with tax season means cheap inexpensive cars for people to buy when they get that refund they can't wait to buy inexpensive cars and this is going to be a great vehicle when we're done so in today's video i'm going to show you how we're going to bring this thing back to life we're gonna make it safe for somebody to purchase and make it reliable now something i don't normally do is in-house paint with this car you'll see all the faded clear coat which is common for honda we're gonna try to paint this thing in a house today and i'm gonna show you how we do it so there's some new stuff that we've never done before and i have my work cut out for me i mean you can see how filthy this thing really is it was not really really well taken care of as far as cleanliness why are there oil cans everywhere we're gonna get to the bottom of this car we're gonna do a state inspection and we're gonna bring it back to life my name is craig from flying wheels welcome to my flying whales youtube channel let's get going [Music] so once again my name is craig from flying wheels and this is a 2008 honda civic now before i even dive into this craig why are you so nasally why do you sound like you have something shoved right up your nose i do i got a nose surgery not a nose job i got to do a surgery i was an athlete in high school i broke my nose multiple multiple times i had a deviated septum and cut some bone out and some cartilage out now i have tubes shoved up my nose up to my forehead and it is extremely uncomfortable and painful it feels like i got kicked by a mule in my face my whole thing's swollen and really i feel like i look like a who from whoville on the grinch so you're gonna have to listen to me sounding a little off today but that is the reason why that is not what this video is about the video is about the civic all right so before we even get go we have one two three oil cans we have bottles of water everywhere four bottles of water i mean the thing really is salvageable i can bring this thing back to life oh my goodness shut up honda we have trash everywhere i could put that on right now what is that i don't know what that is we have stuff everywhere was she a tennis player all right we have the books we have one key but this thing fires right up a manual transmission four cylinder honda civic is literally one of the most reliable vehicles ever built so that 231 thousand miles does it scare me in the least because this could potentially be a really great car for somebody on a budget now we're going to get it back to the shop we're going to do a full state inspection put up on the lift check underneath because we live in new england there's a lot of rust in new england so we have to make sure it's not rotted out underneath we have to check the brake lines the fuel lines the power steering lines i mean this thing has to be safe for somebody it's going to be probably somebody's kid or somebody on a budget we don't want to throw them in a junker and then have them get caught up in some really expensive bills down the road so we're going to go through it first see what it needs do it and then also clean it up this is what we call a gen z anti-theft device what do i mean by that well sadly kids these days oh my goodness sound like an old person kids these days literally do not know how to drive manual transmissions their parents don't want to teach them so it's a dying skill is that true yes it is absolutely true and how do i know that i sell cars so everything i buy with a manual transmission is significantly less money than anything with an automatic transmission because cars like these and budget friendly price ranges their parents are buying them for kids how do i know they're not teaching them how to drive standard transmissions firsthand literally first person the parents say oh we don't want our son or daughter in a standard transmission we want them in automatic i don't want to teach them so it is a dying skill first test does the emergency brake hold good off the gas we can even put a little pressure on it yep mercy brake holds that's great inspection point number one passes windows work they're probably frozen no they're not wow windows are usually frozen in new hampshire don't believe me check out this clip from yesterday i just wanted to share my situation with you guys right now because i thought you might get a laugh out of it i just bought this yukon 2003 yukon and the seller forgot to tell me that the doors don't open from the inside literally none of them back doors nothing nothing opens i know what you're going to say unlock them so i tried the unlock button i tried it from the remote nothing easy solution to the problem unroll the windows open it from the outside right aha not so easy i live in new hampshire and it's february all the windows are frozen none of them will go down and it's after hours so there's no one around to help me out i'm stuck in a truck and it sucks any suggestions now we're off topic let's get to this one right here the bentley continental gt 550 horsepower all-wheel drive yes i've had this car for four months yes it is awesome and it's clean and it's ready for sale but we've had some mishaps through the winter you can see the bumper is painted black down bottom and then we even had to touch it up down here too video to follow and i'm going to tell you why because this thing has been a freaking headache so everybody that said don't buy this you were right but it made some it made for some fun videos tax car tax car yeah expensive tax car we are loaded up with inexpensive cars and if you haven't prepared yourself for tax season already like i told you shame on you because people start getting their refund checks that's gonna sell that's gonna sell that's gonna sell that's gonna sell all of these cars that are double and tripled up over here they're all going to be gone i have stuff stuck up my nostrils which is why i haven't shown my face a lot come april like all these cars in this parking lot is empty it's a ghost town here all right now let's get on to the civic all right rule number one always wear gloves yes you can wash your hands but really let's face it you don't know where these filthy people have been before everything is disgusting look at that that is body gr filth like literally that will scratch off that's body fill same with right here imagine how filthy the steering wheel is seat two yeah like that's body grease on those seats which we're gonna try to get out now this is disgusting yep that's disgusting in there is disgusting so first we're gonna take out all the debris throw it away then we're gonna vacuum it up i like to check all the documents before you throw everything away because you don't know like you might be throwing out service records timing belt records some of this stuff's pretty good most of it's not though who knows what this thing is looks like an aux cord transmitter fm transmitter maybe to the driver owner of this honda civic would you be interested to set up snow tires free of charge i have them set in a garage left over from my son's old civic which looks like the same model as yours if you're interested please call me virginia with a phone number see i could have thrown that out thank you so much virginia maybe i will give her a call some people are so sweet i guess she was a tennis player oh lottery ticket did we win pat's ticket loser [Music] another tennis ball [Music] look at this freaking butcher blade i found wow keep it at gerber is that a good rant cool [Music] all right for treasures we have found a brand new set of tennis balls a pretty cool knife fm transmitter at 35 cents an iphone dongle possibly a set of new snow tires okay now that it's clean out we vacuum a few moments later okay look at how nice the interior of this civic came out this thing was disgusting all the cup holders are clean i guess i could have touched that up a little bit better the carpets are clean i'm gonna pull this out today just so it's out a little bit because obviously that is pretty ugly the other thing i'm gonna do is you'll notice hondas are notorious for clear coat peel so it's peeling here and it's peeling all here we're going to do some paint work today i'm going to blend the quarter and up over the ledge here i'm going to paint the trunk spoiler but keep in mind this is a cheap car i'm not going to do like a really great job i'm going to make it presentable because we want to keep our costs down we want to keep our time down and the less expensive we do things for the less expensive we can sell things for and let's face it what's your best price what's your best price what's your brush that's all i'm gonna hear on a honda civic on facebook marketplace so the more i spend the higher the price is the worse my price is the less i spend the best my price can be alright i got my tubes out so i can speak a little bit better now i paid just over a thousand dollars for this car now right now there is no such thing as a thousand dollar car especially a four-cylinder standard transmission how did i do it then well just like walmart sells back-to-school clothes in august they don't sell their back-to-school clothes when back to school has already started they do it ahead of time they plan ahead of time i do the same thing i buy these cars when things are slow so like december people are thinking about christmas gifts they're not thinking about used cars so i buy them all up in christmas time january when everyone's broke from christmas time i buy them then then they just sit the thing just sits here i actually start in november and that gives me like three months of preparation i get to prepare these things get them ready for sale and then come tax time they're already ready for sale so a thousand bucks three months ago would probably be like even in the condition you see it in just how i got it probably like two to 2 500 right now in this market especially with gas prices being high and then once i fix it clean and do everything i need to do the price goes up from there because remember this thing is kind of gross looking and when i'm finished with it it won't be anymore d.a sander meeting dual action sander it spins and it goes up and down i'm going to sand this stuff smooth with a 320 grit sandpaper that's going to get it smooth enough that i can wipe it down and paint it from there [Music] have a paint matched to our paint code which you can see paint codes here you can typically find the paint code to your car on the inside door or in the glove box so if you open your door you'll see there's a paint code let's see i actually don't see it so that kind of backfired on me usually the paint code right here for you if i look here here we go interior color type b gray that's your paint color right there call up a paint store uh auto parts stores not like autozone peppers they won't be able to do it but like your local nappas will be able to mix you a paint for your car to your color so you can spray it if it's a small spot like a small little area in the corner of a bumper you can actually get a custom can made a spray paint can so you don't have to worry about getting yourself a gun reducer activator you can get something like this right here which is a custom color made specifically to your paint code for your car and it's a near perfect match and if it's a very generic color even easier you can get one of these dupli color comes for like all the basic generic colors for your makes so like this is a ford blue sonic blue pearl if that is your color or they have plenty of colors in here to match different cars they're near perfect matches and then you don't have to worry about paint guns you don't have to worry about custom colors it's so easy but that's for like low spots corners you can't paint a hood or a roof or something with something like that you'd need something like this which is a better quality paint to apply to your vehicle so see that piece of cardboard that piece of cardboard is for those hubcaps those hubcaps we hand sanded two of them we're gonna hand sand the other two then we're gonna prime them and paint them silver i completely forgot to mention these wheels were painted when it was up in the air so we did do the rear brake shoes when we did an inspection it needed break shoes and the drums were pretty okay we got away with not having new drums just had to do shoes when it was in the air we put it up in the air we spun the wheels and held the spray paint and then just painted all the wheels black so the wheels are gonna be black hubcaps would be silver car has been painted fairly okay job not great not beautiful not a hack job completely we're gonna wet sand and buff it and let's face it this car is gonna be a cheap car so if it was something like my skyline in there or something like the mach 1 over there or like my eagle talon those we really spent the time to make sure they're done right cheap 3500 cars you can look past certain things as long as it's more presentable than it was originally so we have here some primed hubcaps that look pretty darn good primed now i'm going to let you know a little secret krylon brilliant silver is almost a near perfect match to like a stock silver hubcap color so we're just going to use some brilliant silver from krylon on these hubcaps let them sit and the car is finished finished product of the hubcaps look at how nice they look now in brilliant silver you always want to make sure you remove any stickers any bumper stickers they're personal personal to the previous owner not to the new owner so you want to make sure you take off any old bumper stickers now it's freaking cold out so this thing is not going to come off without ripping so we heated it up a little bit and i'm just going to peel it slowly while using the razor blade and obviously you don't want to dig too deep because you'll scratch into the surface of the paint but if i just try to pull it see it rips so i have to go slow and it's not ripping only because i applied a little heat to it not too much heat because then you'll just have a ton of glue on your gum on your bumper now i got lucky most of the glue came off but i'm going to get rid of this as well just a little goof off on an old rag will work really well on this glue be careful with reducers because it will remove paint depending on this bumper if it's ever been repainted it'll remove the paint on it so you gotta be careful with what products you actually use it's all about the fine details we paint the wiper arms wiper arms can tend to just get really really faded really dull if you just spray them with flat black or satin black paint i just painted them so you can see they're wet right now but they'll dry and then they just look decent so if they look decent and presentable nobody's ever gonna question if they look old and rusty people gonna look at it and think it's an old rusty car all right where is the honda we have aston martin bentley's jeeps and trucks and suvs and ah four cylinders so here is the honda civic over here finished completed up for sale but you can see we got the flying wheels tag on it we got where the heck is the window sticker we have the window sticker of 4 500 the paint looks amazing on it it's been wet sanded it's been buffed it looks sharp and now it's a four-cylinder standard transmission when gas prices are five dollars a gallon there is nothing better than this car on the market right now and you can see it came out pretty good it runs well it drives well it's been inspected we did a battery we did breaks we did paint and body and a bunch of other things to it so now it is rip roaring and ready for sale and even look at how nice these hubcaps came out and they have like brand new tires on it too this car is really really nice and remember all the spots that were faded especially right here and right here the deck lid was all faded too those are clouds see you should be able to see my face in the reflection right there those are all clouds the paint looks great and we even blended everything so you can't really tell that it was blended down because it blended it at the emblem and then the bumper was blended too over to here you can kind of see the blend line is there but only because i'm pointing it out and then this side as well oh we got a little bit of a run right there not very good for in-house paint and then going over to this side too like we stopped the blend i think i stopped it right about here you can't tell especially like i stopped the blend on the quarter panel at the door so the two doors so the door wasn't painted the quarter panel was on a 230 000 mile car who cares all right one last tip and it's about photographing your cars you'll see the sun is setting behind me you don't want direct sunlight on a black car it's going to show every single imperfection and reflections off the ground reflections off the trees it looks awful but i'll tell you what when sun is setting right now you can see the crest of the sun over the trees that is absolutely the best time to take a photo of a black car i'm going to list this thing up for sale tonight and i'm going to show you right now what these photos look like one other thing i can say when i'm photographing the interior of the car i like to put it in widescreen and portrait mode so you can actually it blurs out the background and it really focuses on the details of what you're photographing i also do it when i'm photographing the car from the outside so it blurs the background and your focus is on the car and it makes the photographs look a lot better see i told you so here is my finished product of the honda civic i have to say i'm really really proud of this thing now keep in mind it is a cheap car and if you know me i hate selling cheap cars but like inexpensive hondas are so hard to find if i can find a clean good running honda civic that's not a ton of money i will buy them in a heartbeat especially a manual transmission i don't even care what the mileage is if they're fairly clean and i can bring them back to life like this one we can do really really well now i haven't even wet sanded and buffed it that's german specialty i'll have him do it tomorrow i wanted to get photographs while the sun is setting and it looks this good in photos and i'll list it up for sale tonight and to be honest with you it's tax time that's when we sell the cheap cars i don't sell them all year i sell the under 5 000 cars during tax time because that's when people have just a little bit of money and they need something reliable we've done an inspection on it we've done breaks we did the oil change we cleaned it up someone with not a lot of money can now buy reliable transportation that's fairly clean and they can kind of be proud of it for not a lot of money which is really really great so this car is going to sell really fast i'm going to list it up for 3 500 i have 1500 into it which means i made a total profit before like shop expenses and everything of 2 dollars in just a matter of two days of working on this car which is pretty amazing now if i had more time to myself i could have done this in one day i could have had it all done in one day but i run the business i have a lot going on it's really tough to get one card done
