100% Blind Reaction To DUNE's Full Timeline & Lore...

I watched the first movie I didn't watch the second movie I wanted to brush up on the lore before watching the second movie I I don't remember the first movie cuz I actually watched the first movie on the plane while I had a migraine headache and trying to sleep so realistically I remember very little aside from Big sand worms with big sand anuses that is literally all I remember but Lord nelor is absolutely fascinating D it's been a pleasure diving into the lore through various books videos and films all right however for me the best way to experience the universe has been to truly myself in the action through Dune the board game is that real is there really a dune board game that has lore originally published in 1979 it's now making a triumphant comeback in two versions thanks to today's literally a Sci-Fi it's just the actual future of human population I thought it was just a completely alternate world I didn't realize it's just taking place a couple hundred years later by a factor of 20 or you know a couple thousand to one yet given its high population density and historical role as leader the Cradle of humanity still maintained its position as the Imperial seat of a burgeoning space I had no idea there even was an earth in Dune that's crazy Empire however this would all change abruptly in 2798 ad when our home world was devastated by a massive asteroid impact oh so it remained the seed of humanity until it got [ __ ] annihilated good [ __ ] good [ __ ] the event accelerated the inevitable transfer of power to Earth's colonies and now sir would be the one to take up the Imperial seat the hell is Sir homie there ain't no Siris wait what wait sir is a planet that's between Mars and Jupiter NY under its Reigns Humanity would become an Empire of 10 worlds with colonies and outposts radiating dozens of light sir is oh Sirus is the biggest asteroid in our solar system it does exist okay CUO got it got it years beyond the Sun by The Year 5000 ad sir claimed to be the master of an Empire of a thousand worlds [ __ ] wait so this really is an ancient history I I had no idea that this was actually even a thing yet the further we pushed into the unknown the more dispersed and isolated we became Imperial power and communication was stretched incredibly thin at this time its Authority could only be maintained through increasingly drastic measures it is perhaps because of this that a rebellion broke out which destroyed the Imperial seat on siries I mean that makes sense right no one wants to be an underdog especially if you live you know infinitely miles away bro we have wars on our own Planet like you don't think uh you think that one planet could just somehow control everything forever um that that's that's my first point second point is where are the aliens in all this shattering the Stars into hundreds if not thousands of fragmentary Empires okay so we're so far ahead in the future that there is no longer a unified Earth a unified human government that's why like I didn't even realize the fact that um this all still stems from Earth somehow so technically I that's wild to me technically are there no aliens in dun l like all the freaking dude there are these weird job of the Hut wheelchair telekinetic guys you telling me those guys are just humans high on spice would be successfully United divided and reunited over the following Millennia with the peaks of each intermittent Golden Age further expanding the boundaries of the known universe such that it is now stretched hundreds of light years beyond our first son encompassing over 10,000 the worms [ __ ] you Chad you know what I meant I meant I meant the the intelligent life forms jorus worlds traversing such vast distances was only possible by technological advances that allowed ships to approach and eventually surpass the speed of light ah [ __ ] and I guess they don't go back in time like I'm sure I guess that doesn't apply in the physics in the Dune Universe however the ever increasing pace of development did not come without a cost the rise of incredibly sophis icated sentient AI in particular posed what sentient AI is a thread in Dune did I just sleep through literally all of this or was this even present in the movie brother wait a second an unprecedented threat to the freedom of mankind and sparked a multigenerational Galaxy wide Uprising holy [ __ ] dude this is book lore wait so there in Dune the movies that exist there has been such a rich history planned out so thoroughly like I thought we were just going to be talking about big [ __ ] worms for 20 minutes okay I didn't I didn't realize there was actually going to be such a wildly insane 40,000 year history at the start of the 17th millennium ad the 17th millennium ad all right all right so the humans have conquered the Stars already for 15,000 years by the end of the so-called butlerian Jihad Untold billions of lives had been lost but the last of the crazy war never changes bro there was war then there's war now it doesn't matter thinking machines was finally purged this pivotal moment had a dramatic impact on the trajectory of human history no longer would we rely on the treacherous crutches of such AI in fact the formation of a new religious text meant to guide Humanity forward wait so you're telling me so far in the future and there's still like religion like I mean at that point you'd think that there was proof one way or the other this new age held as one of its primary Commandments Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind yet what interesting so so we're this entire Dune situation that we're talking about I guess this answers why they didn't actually have any like cyborgs and [ __ ] but hm interesting so is this a religion or just like basic good advice well such proclamations surely protected Mankind from the dangers of its near fatal downfall it also severely curbed Humanity's ability to regain the strength it once wielded during the Golden Ages yo so right now the humanity is divided between all these planets right like and all that [ __ ] right we don't have a Unified Government anymore but we also don't even have the full extent of the technological advancements that got these humans to these country it it's not like some there was some sort of crazy Fallout situation where everyone has nothing in some sort of post-apocalypse it's just we humans have selectively crippled themselves um but people have uh selectively crippled themselves not to fall into the control of some AI that will get them to the brink of some other war that will kill Untold billions of people that's fascinating but nature abor a vacuum and the void left by the AI would soon be filled oh [ __ ] spice spice SP the of the great Revolt the biological potential of humanity was pushed to its limits in a bid by various groups to claim dominion over the new Galactic order individuals bro it's Andrew Tate known as mentats for instance emerged with unprecedented cognitive abilities to gather store and analyze data at a level that rivaled and at times times exceeded that of the AI which had preceded them wait how mastered space travel there are infinite planets out there for you space is expanding go somewhere else dude like I feel like most of the complaints and wars that stem from from in humanity it's like you know I want that land right well why don't you take a different land well I [ __ ] want that land then someone else is in that different land but out here you don't have that issue just start squatting somewhere else go to another world the end why why does there need to be extermination is entertainment like but why why why why why I'm listen I'm sure they're going to explain that I'm just just asking why there even needs to be something like this at that point the institution had a general council with many smaller assemblies meant to deal with issues of all shapes and sizes but probably way way more of them to their great numbers each wielded far less power in fact there were so many that they had to be grouped into Circles of the empire in order to be given representation head was oh so aund of the Thousand votes goes to the emperor and the emperor is just like a is it a hereditary positioned the ancient title of pesar Emperor or more generally the emperor of the known universe yet while he technically ruled over all the Imperial IAL Throne truly only had Direct control over a small number of systems because it the the universe is pretty big and you you literally don't even have the technology that you use to colonize that [ __ ] the rest of the Galaxy was held in Thief by the various major and minor houses we previously mentioned numerous duties and obligations tied the emperor to his Lords the final 100 votes of the lrod were given to the spacing K this is that teleporter wheelchair ugly fugly guy this particular carve out occurred in the centuries shortly after the butlerian Jihad when the members of the lrod were forced to come to a power sharing agreement with the guil they were forced to come to a power sharing agreement that ultimately marked year zero of the new calendar the strength of the spacing Guild was owed to a monopoly on faster than light space travel which gave the literally they have teleporters that's how everything B trade and banking much of their organization remains opaque but it is clear that the heart of their operations lie with the guild Navigators whom we previously mentioned were key to Safe FTL space folding for 10,000 years these three legs of the Empire would uphold the realm's stability let's go however each would be in constant competition with the other why though you set up the voting system don't fight with each other just live lives be happy their plans within plans ever threatening to overturn the current Galactic order dude humans are such scheming [ __ ] have you died throughout the Galaxy right now fast forward you know 20 30 40,000 years later we're living in a system with three with four different four basic different voting groups between no Nobles the [ __ ] teleporter guys and also uh the king and it's just spread so thin with technology that's regressed and therefore there's no real strangle hold and everyone kind of wants to find a way to get on top because humans are greedy bastards and this all starts to crumble with Dune wow wow that went deep wow that went hard holy crap that's incredible that they really went so hard and the back story none of that was even necessary does now but it it just it makes the world so much richer explore the stage on which the play shall be set that's crazy all that background all that background oracus is the third of six planets orbiting the paired celestial bodies of canopus and canopus B a giant white dwarf star and the white hole it feeds on this system lies approximately 33 light years from old Earth falling far beyond the major population centers and trade routes of the Imperium for this reason it long went ignored however exploration of the planet would ultimately reveal a secret that where you don't have it but that that makes way too much sense way way too much sense and is the spice just for the Navigator travel is that it I mean it that's a really important Spiel but it will [ __ ] cooked initial long range observations of the Planet reveal it to be smaller than old Earth with two Satellite moons it orbits its sun in a roughly circular path with almost no axial tilt resulting in negligible seasonality it has around 0.9 GS with an atmospheric composition of mostly nitrogen and oxygen comparable to ancient Terror the fact that he went to such complexity describing traumatic history of the planet which has seen most species die off from a variety of environmental catastrophes oh my God D the species that has been evolved in on this planet is dying off that's the worst news of all time bro imagine Evolution can't keep up with this [ __ ] this planet is flinging at them holy crap out of this evolutionary Gauntlet only a few highly adapted organisms managed to survive worms planetologist have identified many species of Hardy flora and FAA but none are more prolific than the famous sand worms worm time baby it's worm time these are fascinating yet poorly understood creatures poorly understood big [ __ ] worms come on man search suggests that they begin life as small lva birthed from eggs in a deep desert nesting site it's insane that he goes through the biology of the worms like dude there is so much here that's crazy these sand trouts have small flexible B sand trouts what are these fish just swimming in sand instead of water these some 10 to 20 C m in length thousands are born at a time and quickly scavenge thousands at a bro there but there must be bajillion worms water and nutrients from around the nest what do they eat they've even been everything else is extinct what are they eating reported to act together efficiently isolating and hering liters of water back through the sand for kilometers at a time damn over several years the accumulated excretions of the lava in the nest site begins to change the chemistry of the area forming a preice mix eventually CO2 the worms are actively pivotal in creating this spice no way bro you babies and [ __ ] breed them in an aquarium somewhere else is it like what is it about this planet that gets these worms to create the spice for now the presence of the chemical reaction triggers the surviving laa to join together now they will begin to metamorphose into segments of what will become a juvenile sandworm the the sandworm is many different larvae metamorphosized together that's crazy in this stage in its life the superorganism will be able to range far across the Sands of Dune deriving all of its nutritional needs from inorganic compounds and sand plankton for hundreds of years they will travel in search of an ecological niche to fill in some cases this might mean maintaining their current size of several meters while other times unfavorable conditions May trigger a reversion of the juvenile back into its lval swarm form they could come together and split apart and all that [ __ ] these worms are just many pieces like if you cut one in half both halves will just Slither away in different directions it's just a composite of a billion larva it's like the wishy-washy Pokémon out in the Deep desert however worms of oracus have there we go adult worm been known to grow seemingly without bound some of the largest specimens are believed to be over a, years old measuring over 400 m in length and close to 100 m at their widest section yo that is such a crazy life cycle the fact that there were so many stages egg hatch larvae preice spice blow metamorphosis juvenile worm adult worm and they're basically Immortal cuz if you ever kill them it just becomes [ __ ] larvae again and it just keeps rebuilding itself and then they give birth to you know thousands of them at a time yo this is crazy that it went so deep into the freaking biology of these worms mature adults will finally have entered their sexual stage here the female will typically create a nest by thumping out the sand oh she does that thumping Riz in turn attracts a male the newcomer then proceeds to consume the female there it's not a n stream if there's no Vore am I right Gamers let's freaking go cannibalism Vore I knew it was happening cuz it didn't happened yet we've been streaming um as I was saying it's it's interesting because the worms being on the cover of every Dune book and every Dune show and all that like you'd think that they were just a um a planetary Hazard not that
